Discovering Boston on Wheels: 5 Scenic Electric Scooter Routes to Explore
Published: September 15, 2023

![electric scooter electric scooter](https://www.touristsecrets.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/electric-scooter-3-1200x700.jpeg)
Expectation permeates the air as the sun glows over the charming streets. Electric scooters’ soothing buzz blends with the far-off sounds of history to create a symphony reverberating across Boston’s illustrious streets.
These electric scooter routes offer more than just a ride; they connect you to the soul of Boston as the wind tousles your hair and the city’s stories unfold before you. Each route promises a distinctive combination of architectural marvels, scenic beauty, and a flavor of the local way of life, from Beacon Hill’s charming corners to the Seaport District’s futuristic wonders.
So, let’s go on an adventure that fuses Boston’s historic charm with the thrill of modern technology.
![electric scooter electric scooter](https://www.touristsecrets.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/electric-scooter-1.jpeg)
Are Electric Scooters Easy to Ride?
Electric scooters, which provide a practical and environmentally responsible means to travel through metropolitan environments, have quickly spread throughout numerous cities.
Most electric scooters have a simple design with a throttle, brakes, and handlebars. Starting a car is frequently as simple as giving it a light push and then opening the throttle slightly. You’ll soon reach a relaxing cruising speed as you pick up speed.
Electric scooters are well-known for their simple controls. Typically, braking is accomplished by pressing handbrakes, similar to those found on bicycles. This familiarity allows people who have never used a scooter to adjust quickly.
Numerous electric scooter trailer models include safety elements as well. LED lights for improved visibility, shock-absorbing tires for a smoother ride, and regenerative braking systems that assist in recharging the battery while slowing down.
What to Look For in an Electric Scooter for Traveling
When exploring Boston’s gorgeous pathways, picking the ideal electric scooter with a seat will substantially improve your experience. When choosing the best electric scooter, there are a few essential elements to consider before embarking on your two-wheeled exploration.
Consider the range of the scooter first. The scooter’s range is the maximum distance it can go on a single battery. Buying a dual-motor electric scooter is critical to ensure you won’t get stranded in the middle of your trip.
Assess the scooter’s top speed next. Choose a model that fits your comfort level and intended use, as different models have different maximum rates. A moderate top speed may be sufficient for casual sightseeing. At the same time, those seeking a faster-paced adventure might prefer a higher-speed option.
Another essential consideration is portability, especially if you want to go around the city or combine motorized scooter journeys with other modes of transportation. Lightweight and foldable electric scooters for adults are easier to carry and store when not in use.
Consider the suspension system and tire design of the scooter. A robust suspension system and pneumatic (air-filled) tires can substantially increase ride comfort and stability when driving on rough terrain or cobblestone streets.
Last, consider extra features like built-in lights, smartphone ride-tracking apps, and regenerative braking systems. While traveling, these elements can improve convenience and safety.

Rules and Safety Guidelines of the Road
Educating yourself on the laws and safety precautions before starting your electric scooter tour through Boston’s mesmerizing streets is essential. Carefully navigating the city’s picturesque roads protects your health and enhances the overall harmony of the urban setting. Here are some basic guidelines and safety advice to remember:
Drive your motorized scooter as you would any other road vehicle. Follow traffic signs, stop at intersections, and, if required, give way to pedestrians.
The Varla Eagle One V2.0 off road electric scooter and the Varla Eagle One Pro versions are intended for urban exploration and the best electric scooters for adults. Follow designated bike lanes whenever possible to guarantee the safety of both you and pedestrians.
While electric scooters can be fast, following posted speed limits is essential, especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic.
Use hand signals to indicate turns or stops, just like bicyclists do. This makes it easier for drivers and pedestrians to predict your actions.
Even if it’s not required by local law, shield yourself by donning a helmet. For additional safety, think about wearing knee and elbow protectors.
Keep your eyes on the road and your surroundings at all times. Stay away from distractions like texting or headphone use.
When you’re ready to explore on foot, park your motorized scooter in approved areas or out of people’s way.
To guarantee the safety of those around you in busy areas, consider getting off your electric scooter and walking.

Go to Where to Park for parking near our stops.

Service animals are the only animals that are allowed on board the trolleys. A service animal means a dog, regardless of breed or type, that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Animal species other than dogs, emotional support animals, comfort animals, companionship animals, and service animals in training are not service animals.
Are the trolleys handicap-accessible?
A certain number of our trolleys are equipped with hydraulic wheelchair lifts. We do ask that you call ahead to arrange use of these vehicles. For more information, go to accessibility services .
Are your trolleys enclosed?
The trolleys are open-air vehicles but have plastic âisinglassâ windows that can roll up or roll down depending on the weather conditions.
Do you go by Harvard University?
Do you have any special tours for children.
We offer excellent educational field trips. Please click on Educational Tours if youâre interested in booking your school group. We also have a night-time tour called Ghosts & Gravestones that is very popular with kids; although we do not recommend the Ghost Tour for small children due to some scary content.
How much does a trolley pass cost?
Please go to Rates & Reservations .
Do you rent trolleys for group tours, weddings, special events, and transportation charters?
Absolutely! In fact, we proudly operate Bostonâs largest fleet of sightseeing vehicles, which allows us to accommodate groups both large and small. Please click on Groups and Charters for more information on group tours and special events.
Do you run tours in inclement weather?
Yes, we operate our tours rain or shine, hot or cold, year-round. However, bear in mind that in New England conditions can be harsh, especially in the winter-time. Occasionally, weâre forced to close operations for safety reasons, due to extreme conditions such as blizzards.
Are the trolleys heated?
Yes. During the wintertime, we use heated trolleys that are glass-enclosed specifically for the colder weather.
![](http://infomexico.online/777/templates/cheerup/res/banner1.gif)
Are the trolleys air-conditioned?
The trolleys are open-air vehicles which allow for optimal sightseeing and picture-taking.
Do you travel along the Freedom Trail?
The Freedom Trail is a self-guided walking tour that takes in different historical Boston sites . The trolley tour gets you close to many of the sights along the Freedom Trail, as well as all the other major points of interest around the city of Boston . However, the trolley does not follow the Freedom Trail exactly.
How many stops do you make?
Click on Boston Map and Stops to see a list of our stops and for information about the attractions and points of interest available at each stop.
How many times can I go through the loop?
You may ride the Old Town Trolley Tour around as many times as you wish. However, we recommend that you get off and on as you go and take advantage of the sights. Many of the attractions will get increasingly busy as the day wears on; so itâs often best to take advantage of the stops as you go. In addition, you will hear essentially the same information presented each time you go around on the tour, although presented by each driver with his or her own style and flair.
How often does the trolley pass by each stop?
Old Town Trolley Tours of Boston operates the cityâs largest fleet of sightseeing vehicles and this allows us to pick up and drop off more frequently than any other trolley company. The frequency of the trolleys depends on the time of the year, and traffic and weather conditions. In addition, the trolleys tend to run more frequently on weekends than on the weekdays.
If I get off and go to a museum or attraction do you wait outside?
The trolleys go around the city in a continuous loop, allowing guests to hop off and hop on at the designated stops. When you hop off a trolley to see the sights at a particular stop, that trolley will continue with the tour, and another trolley will arrive shortly to make another pick up.
What are your hours of operation?
Go to trolley tour schedule .
What is a hometown pass?
The Hometown Pass program was designed so that residents within our seven cities, Boston, Savannah, Key West, Washington DC, St. Augustine, Nashville and San Diego, can take advantage of our tours and attractions for FREE when accompanied by an adult paid guest.* It is free to join and easy to use. For more information, please call us at 1-800-844-7601 or visit us online . *Restrictions apply.
Can I bring my luggage on board?
Space on the trolleys is limited; but in some cases it may be acceptable to bring a small suitcase on board. Bear in mind that our trolleys are designed specifically for sightseeing and therefore contain limited storage space (as compared to motor coaches.)
Can I bring my stroller on board the trolley?
Yes, we can accommodate strollers but they must be collapsible and will be stored up front with the conductor. Strollers in the aisle ways would constitute a safety hazard.
Do you run tours in any other cities?
Old Town Trolley Tours operates sightseeing tours and historically themed tourist attractions in 8 different cities around the country. Go to Sightseeing Tours to learn more about our other cities.

Boston's Premier Bike Tours & Rentals
"We had a most excellent time with Mike and Brad leading us in the Tour de Boston tour, the family friendly tour. The company was both highlighted in Fodor's Boston and AAA's guides as being top notched. The tour was gentle and easy. Our friends who haven't rode bikes for decades also loved the tour. If we ever come to Boston again, we will definitely use this company again. Guides were great. We always felt safe. This is such a great way to experience the city. I am glad I brought my own snack."
"We took the bike tour today (don't remember which one but it was just under 2.5 hours) and it was so wonderful! It was nice to be out in the town, on the streets, in the parks and landmarks. You could take it all in. The sights, the smells, the people, the culture and history of Boston. The team were top notch! Professional, safe, knowledgeable and fun. I highly recommend this to everyone! Our friends who had been to Boston many many times said they saw and learned things that they never did before. Well done!"
"The tour was great! Charles is a fantastic guide that loves sharing his city. We upgraded the bike rental that came with the Go Boston card to a bike tour. A great way to see Boston. Don't worry about bringing water. A full cold water bottle was provided along with a bike bag to carry a few things and bag check to hold things you don't need on the bike. Bikes were all Kona Dew Plus in good condition."
"We loved renting bikes from urban adventures. I had four kids with me ages 6 through 12. The guys at Urban Adventures got us hooked up with bikes, helmets and locks really quickly. They were patient as we tried different bike sizes. We are all experienced bikers, which was good because we had to ride with a little Boston traffic (in a bike lane) before getting to the bike path next to the Charles. If you are not comfortable on a bike you might want to do a tour so you don't have to worry about navigating this part. We rode about 5 miles along the Charles to Harvard, really beautiful trail (the Esplinade). The urban adventure guys were very friendly and gave us directions as we headed off to our next stop. Would definitely rent from them again."
"Urban AdvenTours is fantastic. We booked a City View Tour last minute as we wanted to explore the city a bit, but also get some exercise. The guides were great--very knowledgeable and kind throughout the tour. When you arrive, they fit you to a helmet and bike to make sure you're comfortable for the ride. I never felt uncomfortable on the city streets, there were dedicated bike lanes and traffic let you by. We did about 11 miles all told over 3 hours--the pace was very manageable. We felt like we saw a lot of Boston and learned some great facts about the city. Would 100% recommend!"
We're Hiring!
Love bikes and Boston? We're looking for tour guides, bike mechanics, tour and rental associates, and bike shop associates to join our team! Full-time, part-time, and seasonal positions available.

I've had to bring my G30P in for repairs three times, and in each case I was treated honestly and professionally. The workers here demonstrate a deep understanding of the scooters they work with in the way an experienced car mechanic knows the subtleties of each model.

Boston's duck boats are famous: What's their history?
What do you think of when you think of sports championship parades in Boston , besides the teams themselves?
That's easy - duck boats.
Those are the cool looking boat-like vehicles that can travel on land and water, and have become a staple in transporting athletes during championship parades. The New England Patriots , Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins have all used the boats at such parades.
On Friday, they'll roll out for a nother parade celebrating the Celtic's newest championship.
But when the duck boats are not transporting championship teams through the streets, they can be seen traveling the streets and water of Boston showcasing the city to tourists and residents alike.

What are duck boats?
Duck boats are colorful, bulky, boat-like vehicles that travel throughout Boston on land and on water. Boston Duck Tours are 80-minutes in length - 60 minutes on land and 20 minutes on the Charles River. Boston Duck Tours began rolling through the streets of Boston in October 1994.
How many duck boats does Boston have?
There are 28 amphibious duck boats - called ducks - used by Boston Duck Tours. Each duck is colorfully painted and named after Boston landmarks such as "Fenway Fanny," "Kenmore Karla," "Charlie River," "Longfellow Bridget," "Miss Emma Science," "Beantown Betty," 'Beacon Hilda," and "Symphony Hal."
Do Boston duck tours go in the water?
Yes. Boston Duck Tours splash into the Charles River for approximately 20 minutes of each 80 minute city tour. According to the tour website, you will not get wet on the tour, but could get a light spray depending on the wind direction.
How many championship parades have used the duck boats?
The duck boats have been used for championship parades in Boston since 2002. The Boston Duck Boat website states, "Boston Duck Tours, over the years, has had the honor and pleasure of hosting four of Bostonâs sports teams in Rolling Rally Championship parades 12 different times."
According to the website, with duck boats "players could stand on, and wave to the crowds below. It was close enough to get these players right up to their fans. But, also far enough to keep them from being mobbed by the crowds."
A brief history of duck boats
The History Channel explained that allied troops used duck boats to get artillery, supplies and soldiers ashore during World War II .
" DUKW boats made their first appearance in combat during the 1943 invasion of Sicily  known as Operation Husky," History.com states. "The name 'DUKW' corresponded to General Motorsâ manufacturing code (âDâ is â1942 model,â âUâ is âamphibious,â âKâ is âall-wheel drive,â and âWâ is âdual rear wheelsâ). Soldiers simplified this by calling them âducks.â
"Like actual ducks, these boat-trucks with wheels looked a little awkward. But their weird design is what allowed troops to drive the vehicles from water onto landâa crucially important task."
Where do the duck boats depart from in Boston?
According to the Boston Duck Tour website , there are three departure locations:
- Prudential Center, 53 Huntington Ave.
- Museum of Science, One Science Park.
- New England Aquarium, Central Wharf.
How many duck boat tour companies are there in Boston?
Boston Duck Tours is the only duck tour company in Boston.
Do other cities have duck boats?
There are other states that do duck boat tours , like Tennessee, Alaska, Wisconsin, California, Florida, Maine and Texas, among others.

My Boston course, AN 309, takes us through Fenway and makes us fans of the park even more than fans of the Sox. Spring 2023!
My husband and did the Fenway Park tour in April and it was outstanding. Our tour guide was funny, engaging of her audience and extremely knowledgeable of everything from basic history to amazing trivia. It lasted close to 2 1/2 hours, though it was only supposed to be an hour or so. Highly recommend!
As a kid I lived on a farm that had an ancient outhouse. It was about as comfortable as Fenway Park.

Taylor Swift Sings Diss Track 'I Forgot That You Existed' at Cardiff Tour Stop on Scooter Braun's Birthday
The superstar â who let out a prolonged cackle as she mashed the song with "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" â performed the songs at her concert in Cardiff
![scooter tour boston scooter tour boston](https://people.com/thmb/pvrM3XkoDiDr9BLq7G-zFgsTFGY=/75x75/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():format(webp)/Headshot-for-CMS-5c85fc185afa4639ba98019617525b05.jpeg)
Taylor Swift is leaning into her reputation .
On Tuesday, June 18, the pop superstar, 34, delighted Swifties in Cardiff when she mashed up two diss tracks, "I Forgot That You Existed" and "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things," during her surprise set.
When the singer reached the lyric, "'Cause forgiveness is a nice thing to do,'" Swift threw both her hands into her hair and burst out into prolonged laughter as the crowd cheered her on.
Fans immediately flooded social media with clips of the moment , pointing out that her longtime nemesis Scooter Braun was celebrating his 43rd birthday on the same day.
"I FORGOT THAT YOU EXISTED X THIS IS WHY WE CANT HAVE NICE THINGS RIGHT AFTER SCOOTER BRAUN ANNOUNCED HIS RETIREMENT, TAYLOR SWIFT WILL NEVER NOT BE FUNNY," wrote one Swiftie.
Xavi Torrent/TAS24/Getty Images for TAS Rights ManagementÂ
Swift and Braun have been feuding since the HYBE CEO â who announced his retirement from music management in a lengthy note on June 17 â purchased Big Machine Label Group, which included the master rights of Swift's first six albums, for more than $300 million in 2019. (He has since sold the rights .)
Shortly after news of Braun's deal with her former label head, Scott Borchetta, went public, Swift slammed both men and later announced she would be re-recording her albums. "All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I've received at his hands for years," wrote Swift in a Tumblr post .
In an open letter to Swift shared on his Instagram account days later, Braun claimed he had "tried repeatedly" to "achieve a solution" with the singer, adding that he was "frustrated" with her "accusations."
When Swift dropped her album Midnights in 2022, several pointed lyrics â including on "Vigilante S---" and "Karma" â were rumored to have been inspired by their ongoing drama.
"I have been blessed to have had a 'Forrest Gump'-like life while witnessing and taking part in the journeys of some of the most extraordinarily talented people the world has ever seen. I'm constantly pinching myself and asking 'how did I get here?' And after 23 years this chapter as a music manager has come to an end," Braun â who has worked with Justin Bieber , Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly and more â shared on his Instagram account earlier this week.
Going forward Braun, who's dad to three kids ( with ex-wife Yael Cohen ), will be a "father first, a CEO second, and a manager no more," he wrote.

Cameron Young posts 59 at Travelers Championship for first sub-60 round on PGA Tour in 4 years

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) â Cameron Young made a par putt from just inside 10 feet for an 11-under 59 on Saturday in the Travelers Championship, the first sub-60 round on the PGA Tour in nearly four years.
Young made two eagles on par 4s, holing out with wedge from 142 yards on the third hole and driving the 280-yard 15th hole within 4 feet.
It was the 13th sub-60 round since Al Geiberger first shot golfâs âmagic numberâ at the 1977 Memphis Classic. Scottie Scheffler had been the most recent at the TPC Boston in 2020 at The Northern Trust.
âI canât say I was expecting it,â Young said. âIâve been playing better than the results have shown. Waking up this morning, I wasnât really thinking Iâm going to be 5 under through four. It was a lot of fun to do.â
This didnât even get Young the distinction of owning the course record at the TPC River Highlands. Jim Furyk shot a 58 in 2016 at the Travelers Championship, the lowest round in PGA Tour history.
Young still moved from a tie for 43rd to a tie for 10th, five shots out of the lead.
Jordan Spieth became a footnote in history as the only PGA Tour player to twice play with someone who shot 59. Spieth also was in the group with Justin Thomas when he shot 59 in the opening round of the 2017 Sony Open.
Young was able to lift, clean and place his golf ball in the short grass because of soggy course conditions and the potential of more rain.
He could have gone even lower. After his eagle on the 15th hole, Young hit his tee shot to 7 feet on the par-3 16th and missed the short birdie putt. On the closing hole, needing birdie to tie Furykâs record, his drive settled on the steep face of a fairway bunker and Young was unable to get it on the green.
He still made par for the seventh round of 59 or lower this year on tours around the world.
âTo have a day like today where things start going in, and it feels like youâre reward for good shots, it leaves me with a good taste in my mouth,â Young said.
He finished at 13-under par and was tied with Tom Kim, who was watching some of Youngâs round on a video screen at the practice range as Kim was getting ready for the start of his third round. Kim shot a 65 and led by one over Scottie Scheffler and Akshay Bhatia.
The other six rounds at 59 or lower this year include Joaquin Niemann on LIV Golf and a record-tying 57 by Cristobal del Solar on the Korn Ferry Tour in Bogota, Colombia.

How duck boats went from their military roots to a Boston parade fixture
![scooter tour boston Red Sox fans lined the banks of the Charles River to salute their team as duck boats passed during their 2004 championship parade. Minutes after the Boston Celtics claimed a historic 18th championship Monday night, the call rang out among fans: âFuel up the duck boats!â
Sure enough, by Tuesday morning Mayor Michelle Wu and other officials were laying out plans for Fridayâs victory parade , with the iconic boats â as tradition dictates â shuttling the victorious team through the city.
For more than two decades, the boats have been a hallmark of any major Boston sports celebration, carrying players through throngs of adoring fans. The cityâs first âRolling Rallyâ was in 2002, when the New England Patriots won their first Super Bowl , with the boats included at the request of then-Mayor Thomas Menino.
Since then, the amphibious vehicles â also known for ferrying visitors on popular sightseeing tours â have become synonymous with championships during Bostonâs enviable string of sports successes this century: 13 so far.

âThis is a uniquely Boston thing,â said Richard Johnson, curator of the Sports Museum at TD Garden, which celebrates the history and character of Boston sports. âThe fans have always voiced vocal and public support. ⌠This is just the most recent manifestation of that. Itâs a nice thing. You know, itâs a real community thing.â
Johnson cited some moments that he said cemented the boatsâ iconic status in Boston sports: Red Sox pitcher Jake Peavy buying the duck boat he rode on during the teamâs 2013 victory parade for $75,000; Celtics coach Doc Rivers taking the 2007-08 team on a duck tour months before they would bring home the teamâs 17th championship.
Meandering past Boston Common and through the Back Bay is a far cry from the boatsâ original purpose: carrying soldiers over land and water during World War II, most notably onto the beaches of Normandy during D-Day, according to Original Wisconsin Ducks , which started offering the nationâs first duck tours in 1946.
Even their name is a bit of a misnomer, or at least a colloquialism. âDUKWâ was the manufacturerâs code for the model, according to the National Transportation Safety Board : D represented model year 1942, U the utility body shape, K stood for all-wheel drive, and W meant dual rear axles.
âThe uniqueness of the vehicle, and the history of our ties to World War II, and how they were used in the fight for freedom, it all just tells a beautiful story,â said Cindy Brown, chief executive of Boston Duck Tours.
Boston Duck Tours began in October 1994 with 15 employees and a fleet of four vehicles. Today, the company boasts 28 of the amphibious vehicles, sporting Boston-centric names âCommonwealth Curley,â âLongfellow Bridget,â and âSymphony Hal.â
Brown said the company initially used original World War II boats, but the fleet was replaced with âreplica DUKWâ boats specially designed for sightseeing about 15 years ago, as the aging vessels became harder to maintain.
The boats, 28 in total, are kept in a Dorchester garage, where a crew of 25 mechanics, detailers, and managers oversee daily maintenance and annual overhauls, Brown said. She said she hopes to keep the current fleet alive for several decades, but the company is also looking into electric-powered replacements for when the time comes.
![scooter tour boston New England Patriots players parade up Tremont toward their rally at City Hall Plaza in 2002.](https://bostonglobe-prod.cdn.arcpublishing.com/resizer/v2/ND4CBIRR4FDJ3JA5KUBZK4XV2E.jpg?auth=5e2c6b52a72e9cb64c5e0ec158fb18d3b970ce33d31f6adf245aeba42638ca0d&width=1440)
On Thursday afternoon, less than 24 hours before the victory parade, a red duck boat named âBeantown Bettyâ brought tourists around Back Bay and other parts of the city. After starting at the Prudential Center, it chugged over the Harvard Bridge, through Cambridge, and past the Museum of Science before dipping into the Charles, where young passengers were shuffled to the front to take turns driving the boat.
Matt Breen, who shifts into his character âMax Marshall Archâ during the four to six duck tours he narrates each day, bantered with riders throughout the 80-minute tour. Along the way, he pointed out landmarks from Fenwayâs Citgo sign to the Zakim Bridge, as well as other, less touristy spots, such as the Suffolk County Jail and New York Pizza on Tremont Street â interspersed with jokes and fun facts.
âWe try to keep it to about 75 percent history, 25 percent comedy,â said Breen, who dabbled in stand-up comedy before starting with Boston Duck Tours in 2016.
While they hold a special place in Bostonâs landscape, duck boat tours can be found in a handful of other places , including the Wisconsin Dells , Chattanooga, Tenn. , and San Diego .
There have been fatal accidents involving the vessels.
In 2016, a duck boat swerved into oncoming traffic on a Seattle bridge after a mechanical failure allegedly stemming from poor maintenance. The tour company, Ride the Ducks Seattle, filed for bankruptcy in 2020, T he Seattle Times reported .
About two years later, a duck boat sank in Branson, Mo., drowning 17 people. The company there later closed .
In Boston in 2016, a Boston Duck Tours boat named âPenelope Pruâ struck and killed a woman on a motor scooter. Later that year, the Legislature passed rules to increase safety of amphibious tour vehicles, requiring duck boats and similar vehicles to have safety equipment including blind spot cameras and proximity sensors.
Brown said safety is the companyâs top priority and part of the reason it swapped to a newer fleet with more readily accessible replacement parts. She added that the company faces more oversight than strictly land- or water-based operations.
âWeâre double-regulated. Itâs a truck on land and a boat on water,â Brown said. âWe have two sets of eyes looking at both areas of the vehicles.â
Each tourist boat is crewed by a driver and a tour guide, Brown said, at least one of whom has a captainâs license. An adult ticket costs $52.99.
The boats will stay dry Friday, but theyâve splashed through the Charles for previous parades.
When it comes to staffing the parade, Brown said, the company considers driversâ âseniority, full-time and year-round [status], and how many parades theyâve done.
The parade Friday will see a convoy of at least two dozen duck boats, which means staffing around 50 people â about a quarter of the companyâs entire staff.
She said some drivers who worked previous parades gave up their spots this year to offer newcomers a chance at the glory.
âYou really have to earn it. No first year employees get to do it,â Brown said. âItâs an honor and a privilege, so we take that seriously.â

Breen, 43, is one of the lucky staffers who earned a parade spot this year. Heâs already set his alarm for 4:15 Friday morning, which gives him an hour to make his way to the Dorchester garage, where heâll help prep the ducks for the parade before theyâre escorted by police to the Garden. Itâll be his second time working a championship parade, his first being in 2018 when the Red Sox won the World Series.
For Breen, the chance to help make the parade happen is âsurreal and humbling.â
âIt makes me proud,â he said. âI talk about the parades on the tour, I talked about them before I ever did one ... Itâs a crazy, exhilarating moment, and itâs cool to be a part of.â
