Blues-rock superstar Joe Bonamassa is one of the most celebrated performing musicians today. As a two-time GRAMMY-nominated artist who recently achieved his 24th #1 album on the Billboard Blues Chart (more than any other artist) with his last album Royal Tea, Joe is only in his early 40s and he’s already become a living legend with an astounding multi-genre catalogue of music. Bonamassa has over 40 albums to date, all on his own label J&R Adventures, including studio and live recordings, collaborative albums and adventurous side projects. A prolific writer who is always on the hunt to expand his eclectic musical horizons, Bonamassa has a limitless work ethic whether it’s in a studio, on the road, producing, or working with other artists to spur new music.

He’s been featured in several publications from Esquire, WSJ and Parade to Rolling Stone and American Songwriter, as well as on the covers of Guitar World, Guitar Player, Vintage Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, and Classic Rock Magazine.

In addition to his music and shows, Joe continues to crank out weekly programming for his radio show “Different Shades Of Blue” for Sirius XM’s Bluesville channel. Last year, he kicked off a new at-home weekly video interview series “Live From Nerdville” which currently has over 60 episodes aired on his Facebook, YouTube, and podcast outlets. With a new episode each week, Joe has featured conversations with Neal Schon of Journey, John Oates of Hall & Oates, Glenn Hughes, Paul Stanley of Kiss, Warren Haynes, Keb’ Mo’, Walter Trout, Steve Lukather of Toto, Todd Rundgren, comedian Jeff Garlin, esteemed singer-songwriter Dion, Peter Frampton, Brad Paisley and many more.

Last summer, Bonamassa and his manager Roy Weisman debuted their new record label Keeping The Blues Alive Records by releasing music icon Dion’s critically acclaimed latest album Blues With Friends. In February 2021, KTBA Records released Chicago’s reigning Queen of Blues Guitar, Joanna Connor’s new album 4801 South Indiana Avenue, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues chart. Earlier this month KTBA Records released Joanne Shaw Taylor’s highly acclaimed “The Blues Album” on Sept 24th. Dion has just announced his own upcoming album “Stomping Ground” releasing on November 5th, 2021. Stay tuned for future releases at ktbarecords.com .

JOE BONAMASSA Announces February/March 2022 U.S. Tour

Two time- Grammy nominee and blues-rock star Joe Bonamassa has announced a run of shows for early 2022. The 24-date tour across the U.S. is in support of his upcoming album "Time Clocks" , which is set to be released on October 29. The dates, which begin February 15, in Orlando, Florida, also feature the return of his sold-out Keeping The Blues Alive At Sea cruise from February 21 to February 25 and end in Washington, D.C. on March 21, 2022.

Bonamassa 's fan pre-sale starts today and the public on-sale will start on Friday, October 1 at 10 a.m. local venue time. Tickets to Bonamassa 's spring 2022 U.S. tour and tickets to his current 2021 fall tour are available at this location .

"Time Clocks" was recorded in New York City and took Joe back to his early roots and rediscovers him at a newfound peak with an unparalleled blues rock prowess. Known as the man in the suit, loved by many as the ultimate guitar hero, and cited by critics as "the world's biggest blues guitarist" ( Guitar World ),somehow the music mastermind has found yet another layer of immense new artistry to share with his fans. Recently Bonamassa dropped hints of the new album with his reeling anthem "Notches" and the blues-heavy single "The Heart That Never Waits" , another instant classic that takes a tale of heartbreak and turns it around into an undeniable showstopper meant for the stadiums.

The new album is a collection that sheds new light on Joe 's life as a journeyman, constantly creating and always on the run. As "Notches" and "The Heart That Never Waits" would suggest, this album shows that even though Joe chose the road less travelled, it's led him to success in the end. And he's not backing down any time soon. A bit older in years but wiser in knowledge earned, his new sound has a raw and vital flavor, combined with a resolute skill that can only be gained through years of perseverance and unyielding dedication. "Time Clocks" follows Joe on his never-ceasing evolution as he continues to forge ahead, bending genres, breaking down walls and defying the odds of the music industry.

For the new studio album, Bonamassa hit the studio with longtime collaborators Kevin Shirley as producer and manager/business partner Roy Weisman as executive producer. Joe Bonamassa (born 8 May 1977) has established himself as one of the most impressive blues guitarists out there. Although he is from New Hartford, New York, US he was more infatuated and influenced by the European take on blues music as he was with American traditional blues music.

Joe Bonamassa’s career blossomed at a young age and by the time he was 12 years old he was already working as the opening act for the legendary blues guitarist, B.B. King. Although Bonamassa respected prominent blues musicians like T-Bone Walker and Robert Johnson, he was more inclined to listen to Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, or Rory Gallagher. This influence can be conveyed by Bonamassa’s more rock and roll approach to making blues music.

In 2000 Joe Bonamassa released his debut album “A New Day Yesterday”, which was produced by the legendary Tom Dowd who was known for recording notable artists such as Eric Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Rod Stewart. The debut album received favorable reviews and reached the No. 9 spot on the US Billboard Top Blues Albums. The album also featured several cover songs by many of Bonamassa’s favorite artists such as Jethro Tull, Free, and Albert King. Bonamassa released his second studio album “So, It’s Like That” on his record label, J&R Adventures. The album is one of Bonamassa’s few albums to feature all original material and did successful on the charts reaching the No. 1 slot on the US Billboard Top Blues Albums.

Joe Bonamassa is an incredibly prolific songwriter releasing an album almost every year. Each album that Bonamassa releases seems to gain him more success and popularity. His 2014 album “Different Shades of Blue” reached the No. 8 spot on the US Billboard charts and featured nearly all original material. Bonamassa is usually fond of performing cover songs and the list of songs he covers is highly diverse. He has covered unique artists such as Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Jimi Hendrix, Al Green, and Barbra Streisand. Apart from his solo studio albums, Bonamassa has also released collaboration albums with singer-songwriter Beth Hart as well as released a variety of live albums.

Perhaps the reason that there are so many live albums and live video albums of Joe Bonamassa is because he is at his best when performing live. A normal touring year for Bonamassa is around 200 shows per year and many of these shows sell out. Bonamassa has played a multitude of unique venues ranging from large music festivals to the Vienna Opera House. His live shows convey his intricate techniques that bring the traditional style of blues music to life in its rawest form.

Live reviews

Joe Bonamassa's claim to fame is his virtuosic ability to deliver face-melting blues rock in an age where the charts are dominated by pop. And that ability seamlessly translates well into his live performance. The subdued lighting of the venue was the perfect complement to the music; you've got your "bluesy lights" on as Bonamassa comes out and immediately launches into the beautiful, soaring epic ballad "Mountain Time." As the night progressed, you were treated to an absolute master's guitar clinic. Bonamassa was seemingly capable in flawlessly executing every guitar technique in the book. You've got your blistering technical solos, twangy slide guitar, crunching riffs, extensive jams with the band, lush acoustic numbers, and on and on.

Fans of Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton will especially find lots to love at a Joe Bonamassa concert. Bonamassa channels the in-your-face hard rock crunch of the former while displaying the raw blues sensibilities of the latter. The setlists are crafted expertly, to make sure you're constantly alternating between rocking out and being moved by a melancholy number. Two highlights for me were a faithful rendition of Zeppelin's heart-wrenching rocker "Tea for One" and the moody, cascading blues of "Sloe Gin." It was truly a refreshing experience to see that blues-rock is not a dead art form, and that Joe Bonamassa is capable of keeping live guitar-driven rock relevant.

Report as inappropriate

Chicago was about the 7th Bonamassa concert we've seen (Lexington Ky, Louisville Ky, Indianapolis, St. Louis, twice on board the Bonamassa Blues at Sea Cruise, and now Chicago. Each time, there is new material and, as a musician, new approaches in Joe's playing. His skills continue to grow - and the pace of improvement (event at his always incredible level) seems to pick up. His quieter moments in particular took the what I call "accidental notes and sounds" (the kinds of sounds, note and approaches any decent player has accidentally discovered noodling on the guitar but never dreamed of doing anything with) and built them into textures, melodies and themes that were enthralling -- at least until whoever was drunkest yelled something -- and in one case, a woman who screamed into the silent, hushed auditorium "he's making me hot". Just remarkable. The effort, commitment, skill, sense of play and exploration, and of course absolute mastery of his instrument. Looking for the next alternative to hear him again. This show featured the 5 piece band plus horn section -- tastefully used. Of particular note was the smoky, jazz-flavored trumpet solo.

Don't miss Joe when you can go.

I've seen Joe about five times now and this was well below his usual standard.

He played very few of his older numbers and left most of the audience bewildered and very disappointed. he seemed to be promoting his new album that isn't even coming out until September this year. By then most of us will have forgotten what it sounds like. However, it seems Joe is leaving his Blues music behind and going more rock. This, for me, is a no no!! if this is the road he is going down then I wont be buying his albums in the future and will certainly not spend the money going to see him. The couple sat next to us early as they were so disappointed.

To summarise: very disappointing concert. No one was singing along as on one knew the songs he was playing.

Amazing concert. First time I saw JB and band live and what a night. So tight, accurate and totally professional. One of my best concert experiences ever. And it will definitely not be my last JB-concert :-)

Drove three hours from Denmark and it was totally worth it!

One little thing though. The sound level was perfect during the first song but after that they turned it up and it got a bit to high the rest of the evening - in my opinion. But not at all ruining it!

And I am curious about one thing. Why all the cover songs? JB has such a great catalog of songs of his own. I think it will define JB much better as an artist if he kept to his own songs.

Se you again - hopefully soon :-)

Kind Regards

Wonderful time last night ! All hard working people That were there to entertain the people that spent hard earned money to be there , they all , the band that is , knew this and showed their appreciation by putting on a splendid display of their god given talent , they proved to everyone there last night that they honed this talent . At the end of the show Mr Bonamassa took time at his bus , took selfies and chatted with a handful of fans , we spoke with other band members and found them all down to earth and very approachable. I first had the privilege 15-17 yrs ago of seeing Joe in Santa Cruz , Calif. last night it had been 7 times at his concerts 6 times here in Scotland , I will be seeing him again and again !

What is there to say about this guy? In truth there are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe him. So I'll try & sumarise; A genius musician who must have music running through his veins for blood. Yes he must have some natural talent of course, but by God he's worked damn hard to get where he has in terms of a Guitar Maestro & don't forget that voice, wow that voice! But he lives for music which might explain it? The 2 Nights at the Royal Albert Hall were immense. Joe was on fire & so were the rest of the Band. They are a well oiled machine that, when moving, it's effortless but with so much emotion to move many to tears. 2 Hours 15 minutes of pure magic & musical mastery!

An OK show, but not worth the 2.5hr hassle of getting there and back (or the £100/ticket)! Only played two of the numbers I knew, the rest was new stuff. Why do these people assume we want new stuff? We don't, we want to hear live the songs we've become fond of over the years. Excellent musicians when playing together, but too much 'look what I can do' solos, which actually weren't that great. Love Blues of Desperation album and know it intimately, was hoping to hear more of it live. Sorry, won't be rushing to book tickets next time as I did this.

Absolutely the best show and time I've ever seen/had. He was AMAZING. Open up with This tRain and pounded us not stop for 2 hours and ten minutes. My girlfriend was equally blow away. I've seen a LOT of live music, hell I'm a musician and I've PLAYED a lot of music, but this was over the top indescribably awesome. I saw Joe on the Blues Cruise and THAT was amazing but he was on the 13th deck in 60 mph winds and I was about 75 yards away. for this I was in a newly redesigned Altria Theatre and I was in the orchestra section. Blown away!

It could have been a bit louder is my only complaint. I saw Joe last November and he played 2 older songs last night that he didn't play then so I was pretty happy about that. We are seeing him again in April. I wish he played more of his own and older music. That's the Joe I fell in love with but I've only been listening to him for a few years! He's truly an amazing musician! Praying someday I will get to hear Mountain Time, Slow Gin, Ball Peen Hammer!

I've seen around 5 shows of Joe Bonamassa. All of them Joe arrived always on time.

The music selections are great. He chooses some slow blues through some blues rock ones which gives a very nice modulation.

Joe is an Audiophile, so expect to have a great sounding band! you can hear all the instruments perfectly.

His band, which change sometimes, is formed with great musicians, I mean really great! Joe´s live is a must to see performance!

Joe Bonamassa Presents “Time Clocks Tour” With A Stop in Jones Beach

is joe bonamassa on tour in 2022

Blues Rock trendsetter, three-time Grammy nominee, Emmy nominee and 25x Billboard chart topper, Joe Bonamassa, is set for a 2022 U.S. Summer tour, beginning in August for his latest album, Time Clocks .

Joe Bonamassa

Bonamassa’s tour will begin August 2 in Nashville, TN at Ryman Auditorium and will come to an end in Wantagh, NY at Jones Beach on August 19. During the last show, Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band will be included as a special guest performer, as well as others who have yet to be announced.

Bonamassa has been hailed to be one of the greatest guitar players of his time, not only within the U.S., but worldwide. In fact, Guitar World Magazine recognizes him as “the world’s biggest blues guitarist.” Bonamassa does more than just perform and make music for his ever growing fan base, but he brings every word to life, especially with the help of his guitar. Ultimately, he combined and established the Blues Rock genre to a high enough degree that it is now considered mainstream music.

Time Clocks , was made within the Big Apple at Germano Studios/The Hit Factory, with Kevin Shirley as the producer and Roy Weisman   as executive producer. This heartfelt album allowed Bonamassa to rediscover himself during a new chapter in his life. Time Clocks is a true testament to the skill set he acquired over the years as he mastered Blues Rock music.

What started out with the intentions of being a trio record turned into probably my most adventurous and involved record to date. Joe Bonamassa

Blues Rock Review

Bonamassa’s “Time Clocks” tour delivers energizing blues rock (Omaha Review)

Joe Bonamassa brought his “Time Clocks” tour to the Orpheum Theater in Omaha, Nebraska on Friday, August 5th. It was just the third date on tour after playing the first two shows in Nashville and Kettering, Ohio.

The Opening

This is the fifth Bonamassa show I’ve attended over the past decade and one thing you can always count on is Joe’s time clock being set to 8 PM. The show always starts promptly at 8. The lights went out just a few minutes before 8 and then Bonamassa and his eight-piece band took the stage.

is joe bonamassa on tour in 2022

The show kicked off with “Dust Bowl” which rolled into “Evil Mama” and Gary Moore’s “Midnight Blues,” which was a definite fan favorite with the crowd joining in during the chorus. The performance followed with “I Didn’t Think She Would Do It” and “Just ‘Cos You Can Don’t Mean You Should” off Redemption . The latter featured a fiery guitar solo that got the crowd into a frenzy.

“Time Clocks”

Joe then introduced his band before kicking off the “Time Clocks” portion of the show. There was a new rhythm section featuring Lemar Carter on drums and Calvin Turner on bass. Backing vocalists included Jade McRae, Mahalia Barnes, and Danielle DeAndrea. Reese Wynans (keys) got a huge ovation from the crowd.

You’ll also notice Josh Smith as the second guitarist in the band. Smith is Bonamassa’s partner in crime and co-producer on several projects (Eric Gales, Joanna Connor, Larry McCray, Joanne Shaw Taylor, etc). During the performance, Bonamassa referred to Smith as the best guitarist on the stage.

is joe bonamassa on tour in 2022

This is the first time I’ve been to a Bonamassa show where he played nearly an album in its entirety. Usually, he’ll play a handful of songs from a new album, but it was cool to see the attention on Time Clocks , which was voted Blues Rock Review’s #1 album of 2021 .

is joe bonamassa on tour in 2022

One quick thing that stands out from the performance is the use of imagery. Each song had custom tailored graphics on the huge projection screen, which was a nice touch. And as always, the sound was clear.

Bonamassa started with “Notches.” Before beginning “Questions and Answers,” Bonamassa spoke about an ex girlfriend he wrote the song about and questioned why he asked her out in the first place. “Loyal Kind” with its powering riff was an electrifying performance.

The Conclusion

“Time Clocks” was the final track Bonamassa played on the album before finishing with two fan favorites, “The Ballad of John Henry” and a captivating version of “Mountain Time” which at one point even included Smith joining in during part of the guitar solo.

“Mountain Time” is just one of those songs you have to hear live. Joe shared the story of how the song came about when he was 22 years old and it was his co-writer, Grammy winner Will Jennings’ swan song before heading into retirement. Jennings also wrote lyrics to Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven” and Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.”

All in all, Bonamassa and company are firing on all cylinders. The “Time Clocks” tour delivers an energetic and tight performance from start to finish. Bonamassa also adds a bit of humor between songs for good measure.

Time Clocks Live – Joe Bonamassa at Red Rocks, August 8, 2022

"He can do things with a guitar that mere mortals can’t fathom." - Denver Entertainment Hub

One thing you can never say about Bonamassa is that he rests on his laurels.  On every new album, and with every new “side” project, Bonamassa pushes himself into new territory.  Last night’s show at Red Rocks was yet another example of his willingness to move out of his comfort zone.  Still, even with the supercharged production, the appeal of Joe Bonamassa comes down to one thing.  He can do things with a guitar that mere mortals can’t fathom.  I was sitting next to a man named Stu, who is a longtime Bonamassa fan but who was seeing him live for the first time.  He commented that he’d seen a lot of guitar players in his time, but never anything like this.  I think that sums it up pretty darned well.

– Rick Witt, Denver Entertainment Hub

"There's no question that this guy can physically step on the gas and like a supercar go zero to 100 in sub 3 seconds." - Bman's Blues Report

In Phoenix 2022, Joe brought at least 6 guitars on stage, changing every 3 or 4 songs, availing himself to different tones and as a guitar player, each guitar talks to you differently. He opened with a contemporary blues set and on a gold top Les Paul. If you haven’t seen Joe in years, he is now highly polished with his hair trimmed professionally but not square. He has a custom made blue suit with sequin trim, not unlike a tamed down Manuel or Nudie suite with notes for theme, and of course there’s the glasses. He doesn’t play to all of the theatrics of a guitar icon and sticks to his craft, and that’s something that I appreciate about a mature performer.

– Bman, Bman’s Blues Report

A Look At Joe Bonamassa’s Summer 2022 Tour With Kenny Wayne Shepherd & Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening

"Without question, Bonamassa manages to simultaneously be a relatable performer and a modern-day guitar great." - The Hype Magazine

Per the show seen tonight at Jones Beach? Joe Bonamassa not only delivered the hits one would expect, but also the full aforementioned Time Clocks album. Kenny Wayne Shepherd also performed a hits-filled set before closing with Jimi Hendrix classic “Voodoo Child (Slight Return).” First of three, Jason Bonham and band, delivered a set which mixed Led Zeppelin hits and favored deep cuts. Altogether, fans experienced a show rooted in both top-notch blues-rock and guitar virtuosity. Without question, Bonamassa manages to simultaneously be a relatable performer and a modern-day guitar great.

“Joe Bonamassa's gonna come out right now and shred it up”: It’s PRS vs Gibson, as Orianthi and Bonamassa give their studio collaboration First Time Blues a masterful live outing

In a solo-laden show at the Whisky A-Go-Go, the two virtuosos traded licks – also tackling B.B. King’s Never Make Your Move

Orianthi and Joe Bonamassa go way back, with their camaraderie solidified in Orianthi's February single First Time Blues . Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the Australian virtuoso invited Joe Bonamassa to join her onstage at her Whisky a Go Go show on May 18.

In a video recorded by fans, Orianthi says, “I've got a very special guest coming up right now for a song I just put out not too long ago, First Time Blues . We've got the amazing... one of the best guitar players out there, Joe Bonamassa, [who] is gonna come out right now and shred it up.”

Bonamassa first joined Orianthi for a live rendition of her single First Time Blues –  the result of their in-studio collaboration (produced by frequent Bonamassa collaborator Kevin Shirley), as debuted earlier this year.

Next the Whisky a Go Go audience was treated to a dexterous rendition of B.B. King's Never Make Your Move , with the two trading licks and solos for a proper guitar extravaganza.

Orianthi brandished what looks to be her original 2017 PRS Private Stock build with a sparkling purple finish, lotus flower fretboard inlays, and ‘O’ logo artwork.

Bonamassa appears to have opted for a sunburst Les Paul Standard. We can’t call the precise model, but given that it was an LA show and therefore near Nerdville (the name given to Bonamassa’s LA home  – and the primary location for his extensive guitar collection ), it’s fair to assume it may well have been one of the several 'Bursts in his possession.

In addition to her go-to PRS guitar, Orianthi used her signature Gibson SJ-200 acoustic and a Gibson Flying V throughout the show.

Speaking about the single and her friendship with Bonamassa, Orianthi said [via Blabbermouth ], “My good friend and legend Joe Bonamassa put down his fire leads on the second solo section. Joe is such a great musician. We have jammed many times in the past and I'm grateful he came in and added his magic to First Time Blues .”

Orianthi's last album, Rock Candy , was released in October 2022. A sixth studio is expected to be released later this year.
