New Rules in Effect for Vaccinated Travellers

NASSAU, Bahamas, April 30, 2021 – The Government of The Bahamas announced updated public health measures and entry protocols for fully vaccinated travellers, stating:

• Effective immediately, Bahamian citizens and residents who are fully vaccinated – after receiving their second dose – will be exempt from COVID-19 testing requirements when travelling inter-island from New Providence, Grand Bahama, Abaco, Exuma and Eleuthera to any other island.
• Effective May 1, 2021, international visitors travelling to The Bahamas from other countries who are fully vaccinated and have passed the two-week immunity period will be exempt from testing requirements for entry and inter-island travel.
• REQUIREMENTS FOR VACCINATED TRAVELLERS Vaccinated travellers will still need to apply for the Bahamas Travel Health Visa and will be required to upload proof of vaccination (such as CDC or government issued vaccine record card) with their application in place of PCR test requirement. They will not need to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test prior to entry, submit to rapid testing mandates or complete the daily health questionnaire during their stay. At this time, the Bahamas Government will only be accepting vaccines by Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca.
• REQUIREMENTS FOR UNVACCINATED TRAVELLERS Travellers who are not fully vaccinated will be required to follow all existing entry testing requirements including applying for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa, providing proof of negative PCR test taken no more than five (5) days prior to arrival and completing the daily health questionnaire, as well as conducting rapid COVID-19 antigen testing, if they are staying in The Bahamas for longer than four (4) nights and five (5) days.
• REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL TRAVELLERS All visitors and residents will be required to apply for the Bahamas Travel Health Visa and adhere to health and safety protocols on island such as mask wearing, social distancing and frequent hand washing among others. Health and safety remain our highest priority, and we must continue to be vigilant.
• Due to the fluidity of COVID-19, the Government of The Bahamas will continue to monitor cases across the islands and loosen or tighten restrictions as needed. The Bahamas is an archipelago with more than 700 islands and cays, spread over 100,000 square miles, which means conditions and instances of the virus can be different on each of the 16 islands available to welcome visitors. Travellers should continue to check the status of their island destination before travelling, by visiting Bahamas.com/travelupdates.

My experience traveling to the Bahamas: New rules and what you need to know

I've traveled to more than 68 countries for my Travel Therapy Trips TV show. Traveling is more than just my job; it's my passion and I usually love it. But to be honest, no matter how experienced a traveler you are, all the COVID-19 health concerns and travel restrictions over the last two years have created a new level of stress we've never had to deal with before.

When I started planning my trip to Harbour Island in the Bahamas I was happy to learn that you're not required to quarantine once you arrive, but there is still a list of things you need to do before you're allowed to visit including getting a special visa. This was a first for me. Here's a quick rundown of what is needed.

Travel rules for the Bahamas

• Create an online profile at this Bahamas government website
• Take a COVID-19 test no later than 72 hours before traveling
• Upload negative test to your Bahamas online profile
• Apply for a Travel Health Visa that includes Bahamas Insurance
• Get approved for travel and get a Travel Health visa barcode
• Show your Travel Health visa in order to enter The Bahamas
• After arriving in The Bahamas take a COVID-19 rapid antigen test on the 5th day
• Pass another COVID-19 rapid antigen test the day before you leave so you can board your flight home.

I'll admit when I first saw the Bahamas website with all the things non-residents need to do I was a little overwhelmed. Thankfully, I quickly learned that the process of traveling to there is much easier than it looks and shouldn't prevent you from making a trip to this very special slice of paradise. #Worthit!

The Bahamas government has also just announced it is easing some COVID-19 restrictions to make it even easier to travel and still be safe when you're on the islands. And once you receive your Travel Health visa you can travel to any of the islands in The Bahamas.

If this is your first time traveling to the Bahamas since COVID-19, I'm going to quickly walk you through the process that I just went through to hopefully help take away any unneeded stress. This will also give you the resources you need to answer any questions you might have to get the most updated information.

Traveling to the Bahamas step #1 - Create a profile

After purchasing your transportation to the Bahamas you need to go to the Bahamas Travel Health website . Plan to spend about fifteen minutes here setting up your required online profile. Be prepared to supply the following information:

• Name, number, address and date of birth
• Check any boxes of health problems you have
• Supply your passport information
• Share an emergency contact
• Provide the number of children traveling with you if applicable
• Vaccine information

If you're vaccinated, you'll need to provide the type of vaccine, dates and address of where you received the vaccine, the batch number of the vaccine that's written on your health card or file, and also upload a copy of your vaccine information to the website.

Traveling to the Bahamas step #2 - Get a COVID-19 test

If you are vaccinated, the Bahamas requires that you have a negative COVID-19 test no sooner than 72-hours before traveling and you need to upload your negative result to your Bahamas online profile so you can apply for the health visa.

Please note the COVID-19 testing restrictions that state: "Any person presenting test results older than three days (72 hours) will not be allowed entry into The Bahamas." You can either have a PCR COVID-19 test or a rapid antigen COVID-19 test at an approved provider. At this time, do-it-yourself home tests are not accepted.

Because PCR test results can take a while and I'm vaccinated, I got a rapid antigen COVID-19 test 72 hours before my trip at a local pharmacy. I got the results in just a few hours. This gave me time to upload my negative test results into the Bahamas website and get approved for my Travel Health visa as soon as possible.

The website says it can take several days to get approved and I was worried that would be cutting it very close, but I was relieved to be approved in just a few hours and this was the same for all the other travelers I talked to. But beware, you need be sure to fill out your online information very carefully. Inputting any wrong information can get you denied and you don't want any delays for your trip.

This is what it says on the Travel Health website: "Vaccinated travelers are required to upload a negative RT PCR or antigen COVID-19 test taken in the country they are departing from. Failing to upload a negative COVID-19 RT PCR or antigen test will result in an automatic denial of entry. Currently, The Bahamas does not accept antibody (IgG/IgM) or Sa test types."

What kind of COVID-19 tests are accepted in the Bahamas?

The Bahamas Government website says, "At this time, the Bahamas Government will only be accepting vaccinations by AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria/Covishield), Janseen (Johnson & Johnson), Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty), Moderna (Spikevax), Sinopharm, Covaxin or Sinovac."

Traveling to the Bahamas for unvaccinated travelers:

If you're an unvaccinated adult and want to travel to The Bahamas, the COVID-19 test you need to get is the COVID-19-RT-PRC test. Here is what the website says about traveling with children:

• All unvaccinated visitors, ages 12 and older, are required to upload their negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test results. Tests must be taken up to three days (72 hours) prior to the date of arrival.
• Children between the ages of 2 and 11 are required to obtain a negative COVID-19 test (either a rapid antigen test or RT-PCR Test), taken no more than three days (72 hours) prior to the date of arrival.
• The Bahamas has suspended the mandatory COVID-19 RT-PCR testing requirement for children ages 2-11, which was expected to take effect on Jan.7. Rapid antigen tests will continue to be accepted for this age group.
• Children under the age of 2 are exempt from any testing requirements

Non-vaccinated persons traveling inter-island within The Bahamas from New Providence (Nassau), Paradise Island, Grand Bahama Island (Freeport), Eleuthera or Inagua are also required to obtain a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test, taken no more than three days (72 hours) prior to the date of travel, and presented to the operator of the airline or vessel on which they are traveling.

Traveling to the Bahamas Step #3 - Upload your info

Once you have your negative COVID-19 test results upload the information immediately to the online account for travel to the Bahamas. You'll need to include the address where you got the test, along with the following:

• Your arrival information
• Your departure information
• Where you're staying including the address and phone number

Traveling to the Bahamas step #4 - Get insurance

The Bahamas requires all foreign visitors have special health insurance. The great news is this insurance is already included in the cost of the Travel Health Visa that cost me $40. Be sure to print out a copy of the PDF that's online proving you have health insurance and carry it with you on your trip.

All visitors are required to have Bahamas health insurance. As part of the travel application, visitors are required to opt in to the COVID-19 health insurance that covers them for the duration of their stay up to one month. The cost of insurance is included in the Bahamas Travel Health visa application fee. Here are the guidelines:

• Bahamas Travel Health visa applications can take up to 24 hours to process.
• The cost of the visa is dependent on the length of stay and vaccination status.
• All visitors 18 years and older are required to complete an individual visa application.
• Persons 17 and younger should be added to the profile within the account of their parent or guardian and complete an individual visa application.

Traveling to the Bahamas step #5 - Get approved

From the time I uploaded my negative COVID-19 test it took about six hours for me to get approved for my visa. There will be a full-page PDF that has a barcode on it that you'll want to print out and have with you on your trip. You'll need this to check in at the airport and to get your COVID-19 test once in The Bahamas. To help keep things all in one place I used the VeriFLY app on my iPhone and that worked great. I still aways print hard copies just to be safe in case something happens to my phone. You'll also want to print out the PDF with your proof of insurance and carry that with you as well.

Traveling to the Bahamas step #6 - Get another COVID-19 test

If you're going to be in the Bahamas five days or more you'll need another COVID-19 rapid antigen test taken at an approved facility on your fifth day there. The government recently changed this rule. Previously you needed the test on day three making it challenging for some who just wanted to do a quick weekend vacation. Here is the latest from the Bahamas website:

• Effective Feb. 20, all travelers, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, are required to take a COVID-19 rapid antigen test on the 5th day after their arrival.The day of arrival is considered Day 1 of a person's stay.
• An approved list of testing sites is available at bahamas.com/travelupdates . Some testing sites require an appointment. Travelers should contact the nearest testing site to schedule 48 hours prior to required test day.
• All travelers will have to bring their approved Travel Health visa with QR code to enter The Bahamas along with a government-issued form of identification (passport, driver's license, etc.) to the approved testing sites.

Don't panic if you're researching your trip and don't see a Bahamas approved testing site near where you're staying as that happened with me. Just call the hotel and ask what they recommend. They often have people they know nearby who are authorized to give the tests. Where I was staying they even had someone come to the property to test me. Very fast and easy. They then upload the tests to the government website so all you have to do is wait for your results. I had mine in a few hours.

Here are a few more quick tips to help with planning your Bahamas trip. Also, be sure to check the Bahamas website before you travel to make sure none of the rules have changed.

When do I have to wear a face mask?

All travelers must wear a face mask in any situation where it is necessary to, such as:

• When entering and transiting air and sea terminals
• During security and customs screenings
• At baggage claim
• When checking in and boarding aircraft, a vessel or another form of transportation
• When traveling in a taxi
• When standing in lines
• When entering any establishment
• While checking into a hotel

Do I have to wear a face mask at the beach?

• Face masks are not mandatory on the beach but must be worn in all other public spaces that surround the beach and while entering and exiting the beach. Social distancing is mandatory on the beach.

What if I don't wear a face mask?

• All persons, including Bahamian residents and visitors, are subject to a fine of $250 or a penalty of one-month imprisonment, or both, if they are found not wearing face masks in areas where it is required.

Bottom line

To wrap up, because of all these COVID-19 health rules and regulations, I felt very safe when traveling in the Bahamas. At the property where I stayed, Romora Bay Resort and Marina, all of the staff, resort guests, people coming in on their yachts, boats and water taxis, and everyone on Harbour Island, wore masks when required. Everyone was very respectful to the rules, something I very much appreciated that made my trip much more enjoyable and stress free.

Bahamas Travel Health Visa Information

The Bahamas Travel Health Visa (BTHV) is  an electronic permit  that is required by international travelers in order to enter the island country.

Also known as the Bahamas Travel Health Card, the BTHV was introduced in 2020  due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic .

The BTHV certifies that the individual is in good health to the best of their knowledge and that they are  safe to travel  to the Bahamas.

All passengers over aged 18  (eighteen) years and older must have a valid Bahamas Health Visa.

Minors (those below the age of 18)  must have a profile in the BTHV account belonging to their parent or guardian.

The BTHV can be obtained by completing a  Bahamas Travel Health Visa application form  online. This simple questionnaire takes a matter of minutes to fill in.

Travelers must also upload a  negative COVID-19 test result  to the BTHV portal.

The BTHV is  not the same as a standard  Bahamas visa  and it is not an alternative. Citizens of countries that require a normal visa for the Bahamas must apply for one at a  Bahamian embassy or consulate  in addition to getting the Health Visa online.

The Bahamas Health Visa permits travelers to enter the country for whatever activities (e.g. tourism, business, etc.) they are permitted to engage in under the terms of their other visas or rights.

Bahamas Travel Health Visa Requirements

Individuals applying for the Bahamas electronic health visa  must meet the necessary requirements .

Travelers filling out a Bahamas Health Visa application form must  provide the following items :

• Digital copy (scan) of the information page of a  valid passport
• Recent  passport-style photo  of the traveler
• Negative RT-PCR test result  for coronavirus

The RT-PCR test must have been taken  at most 5 days before arrival  in the Bahamas. Children under the age of 11 are exempt from this requirement.

The Bahamas Health Visa requirements include  agreeing to the health protocols  designed to prevent coronavirus transmission while staying on the islands.

Travelers are required to  submit the following information :

Everyone entering the Bahamas, whether to enjoy the tropical weather or conduct business, must apply for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa . The steps are a little tricky which is why VisaCentral offers assistance to ensure you’re on your way quickly and with certainty. What's application process? Let’s take a look.

Bahamas Travel Heath Visa

The Bahamas requires all travelers to obtain a Bahamas Travel Health Visa before arrival to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Health Visa is completed online, requires a specific, negative COVID-19 test taken no sooner than 72-hours before arrival.

The Health Visa application process is divided into four steps, all of which are done online. It’s estimated that applicants doing this on their will will spend up to 40 minutes completing the following:

• Create a Profile on the government website’s Health Visa portal
• Add a trip to your profile with your RT-PCR test results or Vaccination Card
• Add Dependents (if applicable)
• Add Travel Itinerary

After you’ve filled out the application and provided your documents you’ll wait to see if you’re approved. Everyone traveling in your party will need to fill out and submit their own Bahamas Travel Health Visa form.

Questions You Might Have

• Do I need to create a Profile for my children? You don’t need to create a Profile for dependents under the age of 18, but you will need to add them to the dependents section of your Profile.
• Do I need to have proof of negative COVID-19 test results for my children? Yes. Unless children are two or under, proof of a negative test is required.
• Does the Travel Health Visa cost anything? Yes. The cost differs slightly depending on where you’re visiting from and if you’re vaccinated or not. Vaccinated tourists from the U.S. will pay $40 per Health Visa, while vaccinated travelers from the rest of the world will pay $50 per. Quick note: I should mention that the Bahamas Health Visa does not replace a standard Tourist/Visitors Visa. Suppose you require a visa to visit the Bahamas. In that case, you must apply for a Bahamas Tourist Visa and a Bahamas Health Visa.

All travelers (including US citizens) who plan to visit the exotic destination that is the Bahamas, must apply for a Bahamas Health Visa. Let's take a look at the types of travelers by age :

All visitors over 18 must create a Bahamas Travel Health Visa account.

All visitors under 18 (minors) must be added to their parent's or guardian's Bahamas Travel Health Visa account.

No. Bahamian Citizens and Residents don't need to apply for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa. However, if this is you, there are specific entry requirements you need to meet. You can start your Bahamas Travel Visa application no more than 4 days before your trip. Remember, you'll need to submit a negative COVID-19 test result taken no later than 72 hours (3 days) before your trip.

It can take up to a hundred (100) hours to review your application. Once your trip is reviewed and approved, you can obtain your Travel Visa after payment. In steps 3 and 4, enter your personal & residential details. This is your home address and not where you'll stay in the Bahamas. Next, you'll have to check all, if any, health conditions you have. This is required since your Bahamas Travel Health Visa includes COVID-19 insurance.

Finally, share details of your Emergency contact. This can be a family member, a friend, or even a travel agent. The Bahamas authorities might contact this person in case of an emergency.

Once you've created your account, you can use the Bahamas Health Visa login portal to access your trip details later on.

At the end of the trip application, you'll need to check the following boxes (if applicable):

After completing the online application form, your trip will be added to your dashboard under "Upcoming trips."

The trip status will change to 'Pending.' This means that your Bahamas Health Visa is in an automatic review queue. It will be either accepted or rejected. You do not have to pay until you receive an acceptance.

The decision depends on various factors, such as meeting all COVID-19 testing requirements, uploading an authentic report, and your recent international travel history. One of the final steps to your Bahamas Travel Visa is to pay the application fee. As previously mentioned, you only need to pay the Bahamas Health Visa fee if your visa application has been approved.

If you are traveling with children under age eighteen (18), you’re required to create a profile for each child. This entails uploading their valid passport and sharing personal details.

In addition, anyone older than eleven (11) years of age is required to upload a negative RT-PCR test if they're not fully vaccinated. Enter The Trip Details

Finally, you have to add details about your upcoming trip and upload a negative negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test . This is a mandatory requirement to submit the Bahamas Health Visa application form . The Bahamas only accepts Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca vaccines. You can put the lab as "CDC." A COVID-19 Rapid or PCR negative test result within 3 days of your departure to the Bahamas is required for vaccinated travelers. For unvaccinated travelers, only RT-PCR tests are accepted. The format needs to be in PDF, PNG, or JPEG - use this free tool to convert your test report to those file formats. In addition, the lab report should indicate the address & phone number of the lab and your name. Use this tool to understand which type of test do you need to get.

A traveler recently reported a visa rejection . "They denied our first application because our letters from our health clinic didn’t have the name of the lab/facility with address and phone number listed on the letterhead. Also, make sure your letter has date tested, what kind of test, your name, and date of birth."

COVID-19 tests can be quite expensive. To save money, we recommend scheduling appointments at local city- or state-hosted government testing sites. They're usually drive-thru and free (or very cheap). Travelers getting tests from government-hosted sites save $120, on average. All vaccinated travelers need to get a Rapid or PCR test within 3 days of departure .

Unvaccinated travelers are required to get a mandatory Rapid Antigen test on the fifth day of their trip. An approved testing center must administer rapid Antigen tests. You can find approved testing centers here . The fees for tests are included as part of the visa cost. Failure to take a rapid antigen test on the 5th day can result in a $1,000 fine, one-month imprisonment, or both.

Unvaccinated Travelers who test positive are required to take another RT-PCR test at their expense. Upon a positive RT-PCR report, travelers may choose to (1) leave the destination via approved medical transportation (using either insurance or personal resources if they have a medical necessity as stated in the terms and conditions of the Health Insurance), or (2) begin quarantining at their place of stay for a 14-day period, or length of stay .

On arrival and for a maximum of 14-days, or the duration of stay, you will be required to answer the Bahamas Daily Health Questionnaire. Vaccinated travelers are exempt from taking the daily survey. For unvaccinated travelers staying longer than four (4) nights, a Rapid Antigen test on day five (5) of your visit is required.

We also recommend taking a copy of your negative COVID-19 test result, hand sanitizer, and enough face masks to prevent unexpected issues in the Bahamas.

If your visa is rejected, you will get an email indicating the reason. Usually, it is easy to rectify and apply again. Common reasons include invalid tests, results not being conclusive, and lack of information.

What are some common causes of rejection?

Test result is illegible. Please reapply and upload a clearer image.

Does not prove 2-week immunity period: travelers from other countries must have proof their vaccination was completed at least 14-days before arrival to account for the immunity period.

Vaccination Status: government-issued proof of vaccination status is required. Most governments issue vaccination certificates.

Does not clearly show approved vaccine: only vaccinations by Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and AstraZeneca will be accepted at this time.

Invalid proof of vaccination: documentation submitted is not from a validated source (i.e., CDC or government-issued) as deemed by the Bahamas Ministry of Health upon review.

Test results do not meet time criteria. The test must be administered (based on the collection date of the swab) within five (5) days of the date of arrival. Any tests older than five days will be considered expired by the arrival date

Saudi Arabia expands e-visa entry permit to 3 more countries

The e-visa permits multiple entries for a year with 90-day stays

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has broadened its electronic visa (e-visa) accessibility to include citizens from Barbados, the Bahamas, and Grenada.

As per reports from the Saudi Press Agency , citizens are now able to apply online or upon arrival, with the list of eligible countries extended to 66.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministries of Interior and Tourism, announced that nationals from these three countries can acquire a visitor visa electronically or upon arrival at any of the Kingdom's international ports.

This initiative comes within Saudi Arabia’s efforts to provide an unforgettable tourist experience for visitors coming from various parts of the world.

The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Tourism's strategy to enhance global connectivity, stimulate economic diversification, and achieve Vision 2030's tourism goals, including a 10 per cent+ GDP contribution from tourism and creating one million jobs.

Tourist visa extended 

In addition to these new countries, the tourist visa extends to residents of the US, UK, EU, and holders of visit visas from these regions.

Residents of GCC countries are also eligible, allowing for tourism, Umrah pilgrimage, visiting family, and attending events.

Furthermore, transit visas for Saudia and flynas airlines permit a 96-hour stay.

The Ministry introduced the visit visa in September 2019 to showcase Saudi Arabia's tourism offerings and promote cultural experiences.

The e-visa system will expand to include more countries as the Kingdom's tourism sector grows.

Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom

Azerbaijan, Brunei, China (Including Hong Kong And Macau), Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Singapore, South Korea, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan
