Taylor Swift's '1989 World Tour LIVE' Film Announced as Apple Music Exclusive

As her world tour promoting the 2014 album "1989" came to an end this month, singer Taylor Swift took to twitter to announce an upcoming collaboration between herself and Apple Music in the form of a new concert film called " The 1989 World Tour LIVE ." The backstage film will be published exclusively on Apple Music on December 20.

Swift and Apple Music had an initially rocky relationship, beginning with the announcement of Apple Music's three-month free trial, which would have seen artists go unpaid for the trial period while users streamed their songs an unlimited amount of times without paying them anything. Swift wrote down her opinion on the matter in an open letter to Apple, subsequently inspiring the Cupertino company to reverse course on the decision and ultimately bringing 1989 to the streaming service over the summer.

With today's announcement of a full feature behind-the-scenes documentary appearing exclusively on Apple Music, and the release of 1989 on the service in June, it seems the previous drama between the singer and Apple is water under the bridge. Fans will be able to watch the film beginning next Sunday on Apple Music, using an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC, or Apple TV. Those who want to get a sneak peek can tune into Beats 1 at 9 AM PST tomorrow morning for a discussion between Swift and Zane Lowe regarding the creation of the new movie.

Taylor Swift's Christmas gift for you is here. Well, if you're an Apple Music subscriber, at least. The pop star's world tour documentary for her massive hit album 1989 is now available to stream .

As Swift herself announced earlier this week , the special is exclusively available on Apple's streaming music service. The documentary is directed by Jonas Akerlund, who also helmed On the Run Tour: Beyoncé and Jay Z . If you're looking for some diversity, it's not just two hours of Taylor Swift — it features performances from Selena Gomez, John Legend, Fetty Wap, and others. The 1989 World Tour has been running since this May, and it came to a close just a week ago.

The partnership between Apple and Swift shows just how far the two have come since the mega-star published an open letter criticizing the company's royalty policies during its three-month trial period. Both sides quickly made up , and now they're all making lots of money together. 1989 itself has been streaming on Apple music since June.

Portrait of Jackson McHenry

Taylor Swift doesn’t hold grudges — except against the individuals immortalized in her kiss-off songs. After a brief snafu  with Apple Music earlier this year  after which she decided to let the platform host  1989 , the singer seems to have doubled down on her commitment to Apple’s streaming venture. In a video released today, Taylor announced that her concert film off her latest album, 1989 World Tour Live , will appear exclusively on Apple Music on December 20. It will feature footage from Swift’s concert in Sydney as well as a few appearances from some of her  many special guests .

Sorry, Tidal, you can’t get all the exclusives.

Today the 1989 World Tour (Live) will be available for all Apple Music members. But when i clicked play, it just said "Looks like The 1989 World Tour (live) is no longer available". This is in my macbook pro. I tried watching it on my iPhone too with no success.

AAre you able to watch it on Apple TV? Mine won't work

swirvine

Dec 20, 2015 7:00 PM in response to ashleyc13

I am having issues as well. On my iphone, I couldn't even load the 1989 Taylor Swift Tour video to even just read about it. On my MacBook Pro, I could load and view BOTH the interview and the movie. BUT when I mirror to AppleTV, the interview video would mirror fine, but the movie video WOULD NOT... it would only show a grey screen... Now, why would it work for one clip but not the other? Apple Music, I'm not impressed. It would have been nice to have been able to view this from just my AppleTV, so needing to mirror is poor design... and then while mirroring, to have it be flakey based on what clip?

Please give me a fix or I might just back out of Apple Music entirely.

Anyone else able to help me fix this? I am grumpy because I have two tween girls staring me down...

works fine now! On both iPhone and Macbook

Taylor Swift to release 1989 World Tour concert video exclusively on Apple Music on Dec 20

the 1989 world tour live apple music

NEW YORK (REUTERS) - Pop star Taylor Swift's 1989 World Tour-Live concert video will be available exclusively on Apple Inc's music streaming service, Apple Music, starting on Dec 20, Apple said in a tweet from Apple Music's Twitter account on Sunday (Dec 13).

Swift made the announcement as she celebrated her 26th birthday on Sunday. She also tweeted a trailer for the concert video and said: "Thank you so much for all the birthday wishes. I have a little surprise for you." The trailer's description listed Jonas Akerlund as the video's director.

The singer added that an interview discussing the video would be broadcast at 9am PST (7pm Singapore time) on Monday on Beats 1, Apple's radio station. Apple officials were not immediately available for comment.

Apple introduced Apple Music in June. Apple chief executive Tim Cook said in October the music streaming service had netted more than 6.5 million paid users, and that an additional 8.5 million people were participating in a free trial.

Swift said in June she would put her hit album 1989 on Apple Music, days after the tech giant bowed to pressure from Swift and some independent music groups and labels and agreed to pay artists during a free trial of its music service.

Swift's decision came after she pulled her entire catalogue of music from online streaming platform Spotify in November 2014 and refused to offer 1989 on streaming services, saying the business had shrunk the numbers of paid album sales drastically.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. But Bloomberg noted that it follows other arrangements that Apple has struck with star musicians to publicise Apple Music and produce programming for its service.

Rapper Drake and producer Pharrell Williams have been involved with Apple Music since its introduction in June, and in November, Apple introduced a television commercial featuring country singer Kenny Chesney, Bloomberg said.

Taylor Swift’s ‘The 1989 World Tour Live’ Released Exclusively On Apple Music

Taylor Swift, apart from sharing a name with Apple’s new programming language, is becoming one of the firm’s biggest partners in the music world after initially getting off to a rocky start when the artist penned an open letter to Apple asking it to pay musicians for their work during Apple Music’s 90-day free trial. Ever since Apple reversed its stance and did exactly that, the pair have been best buds.

That has now culminated in the arrival, as promised, of Swift’s 1989 World Tour film on Apple Music . The documentary, primarily filmed at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Nov. 28, follows Swift and her team throughout rehearsals as well as other backstage moments as well as including the entire performance of November 28th. The 1989 World Tour Live film is exclusive to Apple Music, and boy is Apple making a fuss.

apple-music-taylor-swift

Opening the Music app or iTunes and hitting the New tab will immediately present you with Taylor Swift, and nothing else. Quite for how long this will be the case, nobody knows, but for now the New tab is entirely dedicated to Taylor Swift and her content. If there was money that changed hands for that alone, we’d love to know how much was involved. Apple has done similar things in the past, recently with Coldplay, but never quite to this extent.

TayLor swift apple music

All Apple Music subscribers have access to the 1989 World Tour video, and if you’re a fan of hers and have some time to sit and experience it, we’re sure that this film will be worth the price of a month’s Apple Music subscription alone, even before you throw in all the other music and video that you’ll be able to listen to or watch.

That’s right. There’s a lot more content on it than Taylor Swift. We know that may be hard to believe.
