Later, in Prague's old town, we'll view the Old Town Square, the famous Astronomical Clock, St. Nicholas Church, the Charles Bridge, and more. The rest of our day is at leisure to explore Prague independently.

Just a short walk away is the Hofburg Palace, a 13th century palace that characterizes the opulence of the Habsburg dynasty. Today brings us to the Imperial Palace of Schönbrunn—with its 18th-century architecture, interiors, and vast gardens; it’s among the most impressive baroque structures in Europe. • Austria is known for its savory Wiener schnitzel and excellent wild trout, carp, and crayfish. Save room for dessert—especially the strudels of fruit and nuts and elegant chocolate cakes, such as the world-famous Sachertorte.

  • We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.

Trip Overview

Day 1: welcome to prague.

Welcome to Prague! Meet your Trip Leader at Václav Havel Prague International Airport at 3:00 p.m. and take included transportation to your hotel in the heart of the capital of the Czech Republic.

Find yourself in the social and cultural capital of Central Europe, Prague, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Get ready to immerse in its deep-rooted history, breathtaking architecture, and friendly atmosphere.

Join with your Trip Leader and your new friends for an included dinner and begin to settle in to Prague.

Day 2: Discover Prague

After enjoying a delicious Czech breakfast, your Trip Leader will take you to Prague Castle--the largest castle in the world--for an included visit.

Explore the neighborhood of St. Vitus Cathedral and the colorful Golden Lane. After lunch, enjoy some free time to visit museums, wander through the Jewish Quarter, or stroll over the historic Charles Bridge. Grab a brew in the Beer Garden in Letna Park like the locals if you want to relax.

Join a local microbrewery tour with your Trip Leader and learn why the Czech Republic is a well-known haven for beer drinkers. After learning about the Czech brewing process, have a traditional dinner with your new group of friends at the microbrewery.

Day 3: Prague Immersion

Today, take the funicular, an inclined railway, up the hill to the Petřín Lookout Tower. Dubbed a mini version of Paris's Eiffel Tower, Petřínská rozhledna was built in 1891 for the Jubilee Exhibition. Climb the 299 steps to reach the top and marvel at the views.

Afterward, stroll through the landscaped gardens or head to the observatory. Return to the hustle and bustle of Prague’s Old Town for the afternoon before rejoining the group for dinner.

After dark, you'll see a completely different side of Prague as the Old Town comes alive with underground taverns and other nightlife.

Day 4: Arrival in Vienna

This morning board a train bound for Vienna, Austria’s capital.

Spend the afternoon walking around this charming city with your Trip Leader as you become familiar with your surroundings.

Visit the famous Naschmarkt, a cultural meeting point for local Viennese. Indulge in some of the best food and wine that Austria has to offer.

If you are on a December trip departure, you will visit the iconic Christmas Markets instead of Naschmarkt.

Day 5: Vienna Immersion

Enjoy a guided walking tour of the city with a local guide. Your guide will take you from the Gothic splendor of St. Stephen's Cathedral to the neoclassical grandeur of Graben Street and then on to Hofburg Palace, where Habsburg emperors once resided.

Spend the afternoon exploring this splendid city and its numerous museums, palaces, and parks. Vienna is well known as the capital of classical music, so we recommend catching a classical concert at the orchestra or a local church.

Day 6: Welcome to Budapest!

Today, say hello to our third and final destination: Budapest, the Pearl of the Danube.

Walk around the city with your Trip Leader to become familiar with Hungary’s capital.

In the evening, head out and visit the famous ruin bars of Budapest. Board a local river cruise at sunset and admire the city from the water.

Day 7: Szentendre on the Danube

Today, you will head out of bustling Budapest and visit the village of Szentendre, known for its baroque architecture, churches, colorful houses, and narrow, cobbled streets.

In the afternoon, return to Budapest and continue exploring the city. Spend time relaxing at the famous thermal baths or take a bike tour. Don’t forget to climb the Freedom Monument for spectacular city views.

Tonight, we’ll enjoy our final dinner together as a group and reflect on the fantastic adventure we’ve had across Central Europe.

Day 8: Departure

On Insight Budapest private tours and small-group tours, we explore the many faces of Hungary’s capital, from the city’s profound Jewish heritage , fabulous Art Nouveau architecture , grand cafés , and complex Cold War legacy , to the Ruin Bars and UNESCO-cited design scene that infuse Budapest today with new cosmopolitanism and creativity.

Tripadvisor.

We did the Downtown Pest tour with Andras a few days ago. He is extremely articulate and knowledgeable. And very flexible–he will tailor the tour to your particular interests. This was a great introduction to Budapest, its history and politics. Andras even took us on the metro for part of the tour and taught us how to get a pass, etc. If you like scholarly, in-depth tours, then you will like Insight Cities tours. Highly recommend Andras and Insight Cities tours.

The best way to see and get immersed in the culture and history of this city is with a local historical guide that lives here.

Veronika was amazing! This was the second tour we took with Veronika (she also gave us a tour of Communist Budapest), and on both occasions she was extremely knowledgable, kind and well informed . She shared tremendous insight and knowledge about Budapest’s history, was very well organized, thoughtful and even took us to fascinating places like an archeological dig or gallery we would not have found on our own. We were so grateful to have taken these tours with Veronika. They were the highlight of our trip!

After engaging Insight Cities for unforgettable tours in Vienna and Prague, we ended our trip with 2 more from the company. After 5 tours, we can easily recommend this company. The guides are superb. Hope to see them in more cities in the future.

We took the “Downtown Pest: The New Imperial Capital” tour with Andras, who was very knowledgeable and full of wonderful anecdotes about his experiences growing up in Budapest. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who is interested in actually learning about the city from a local who is full of knowledge and insight. Definitely bring your camera and your curiosity!

How many guests will be on this tour?

A personal experience is at the heart of what you can expect. Choose from 2 group sizes, where you’ll always enjoy dedicated attention and access to unique experiences thanks to all groups being smaller than the mainstream tour companies. With both group sizes you’ll travel on custom ‘Business Class’ style coaches that offer more leg room and larger window spans. Choose an average group size of just 33 travelers: Capped at a maximum of 40 guests, these groups offer an enhanced experience versus larger mainstream tours of 50 or more. Or, choose an average of just 20 guests: Capped at a maximum of just 24 guests, this choice is perfect if you prefer an even more individualised experience. Choose your preference in the dates and prices panel of your tour page or speak to one of our Travel Experts or your local Travel Advisor.

How much walking is involved on this tour?

With your comfort in mind, Insight Vacations assigns every tour an activity level. The activity level for your chosen tour is displayed in the tour introduction. Leisurely: Tours with typically 1-2 miles of walking per day on primarily flat surfaces and with some stairs.   Balanced: Tours with up to 1-3 miles of walking per day, which may include some uneven surfaces such as cobblestones and stairs.   Dynamic: These journeys can feature 4+ miles of walking on some days and may involve some steep hills.

How can I apply my past guest discount?

As a valued past guest, you're eligible for a discount on your next booking through our loyalty program, Global Tour Rewards. You will be asked to enter the details of your previous tour with Insight Vacations, or any of our Travel Corporation sister tour brands, during the booking process. Your past guest discount will then be applied automatically. You do not need to enter a code.

What if I'm travelling in a group of 10+?

We have many options available for larger groups. You can select to reserve space for your entire group on one of our existing departures, book an entire departure out for your group, or our Groups Specialists can design a bespoke itinerary for you tailored to your group’s interests, and your budget.  Find out more.
