Buzzcocks announce summer tour

Buzzcocks are going on a summer tour. It kicks off in September in Philadelphia and runs across the USA. On the East coast, Lovecrimes opens the show. On the West side, Buzzcocks play between Descendents and Grumpster .

Buzzcocks' Steve Diggle will also release an autobiography this year. It's called Autonomy: Portrait of a Buzzcock and it;s out on August 22 via Omnibus Press.

Christmas 1976. Manchester punk pioneers Buzzcocks formed by Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley have recorded and are just about to have phenomenal success with the groundbreaking, Spiral Scratch EP. Two months later, as the release starts to take off, Howard Devoto leaves.  

A quick reshuffle and Pete Shelley takes over lead vocals.

Over the years, the lineups change. Only Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle remain constant members of this iconic band. The methodology remains constant too: short, sharp slices of sublime guitar punk pop music, revered by a global army of fans and vitally influential to legions of bands coming up behind.

Flash-forward to 2018. Buzzcocks are still very busy. The band signs their catalogue to Domino Records and announce a landmark performance of “Singles Going Steady” at the Royal Albert Hall for June 2019. Buzzcocks are enjoying well-deserved and high profile recognition of their contribution to British culture.

On 6th December, that bright prospect is thrown into darkness with Pete’s tragic and unexpected death. The Albert Hall show is recast as a tribute to Pete Shelley with remaining members Steve Diggle, Chris Remington, and Danny Farrant, joined by original band members, ‘special guest’ vocalists and guitarists.

And here we are in 2024. Buzzcocks continue with Steve on lead vocals/guitar, Chris Remington on Bass, and Danny Farrant on Drums. You can’t hold a good band down.

Buzzcocks Announce 2024 Australian Tour

The Buzzcocks have announced their return to Australia for the first time since 2016, playing seven shows across the country from late October to early November 2024 as part of their Buzzcocks Are Coming world tour. A full list of tour dates and ticketing information can be found below.

The tour will mark the first time the UK punk-rock veterans have played shows in the country since the passing of founding member and frontman Pete Shelley , who died in December 2018 at the age of 63. The band’s surviving members – rhythm guitarist Steve Diggle, bassist Chris Remington and drummer Danny Farrant – played a tribute show to Shelley in June 2019 at London’s famed Royal Albert Hall.

There, the band was joined by members of Sonic Youth , The Damned , The Skids and The Charlatans to perform Shelley’s songs. Since then, the band have recruited lead guitarist Mani Perazzoli, with Diggle stepping up as the Buzzcocks’ new lead vocalist. This iteration of the Buzzcocks released a new album, Sonics in the Soul , in 2022.

Buzzcocks – ‘What Do I Get?’

The band last came to Australia primarily to perform at Golden Plains Festival as part of their 40th anniversary tour. They took to the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheater over the Labour Day long weekend in 2016 alongside bands such as Sleater-Kinney , Eddy Current Suppression Ring , Violent Femmes and rapper Freddie Gibbs .

The Buzzcocks’ 2024 tour will include their first show in Western Australia since 2013 , as well as their first show on the Gold Coast since 2009 and their first-ever show in Newcastle. A pre-sale for the tour will go live from 11am AEDT on Wednesday February 21st, with a general sale following the next day on Thursday February 22nd – also at 11am AEDT.

Tragedy today 6th of December 2018. Pete Shelley suddenly gone from heart attack. One of the greatest in britpop history. Lovely, humble man who wrote great music and carried the banner well. Buzzcocks on Tension tour in '79 in Hollywood was a landmark show for me. Will miss him terribly.

They remain one of my favorite bands ever, still retaining their winning combination of brilliant songcrafting and punk energy. They have not missed a beat. It is so wonderful to see the Buzzcocks whenever they tour. The Boston show was like 1978 again, complete with the energetic crowd and even the mosh pit. Thank goodness Steve Diggle and Pete Shelley continue on, as great as they ever were. They are friendly and nice as well, both in person after the show and in social media. Rock on, guys.

Good and loud the way it should be. Unfortunately the sound system was bad - poor mixing, lots of mic feedback, and other tech shenaningans. a lot of time was wasted fiddling with equipment. It could have been a much better show without the technical difficulties.

Baseball’s two biggest stars are going head to head in The Bronx this weekend.

On June 7-9, Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers are dropping into the Big Apple for a three-game series against Aaron Judge’s New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

As of now, both teams are sitting at the top of their respective divisions. Could this be a preview of the 2024 World Series?

Coming into this series, the Yankees have won eight of ten largely thanks to Judge and Soto’s hot streaks.

“Heading into  Wednesday’s 9-5 win over the Twins , Judge was on pace for a WAR of 11.0 and Soto 9.1, according to baseballreference.com,” the New York Post reported. “The combined 20.1 bWAR would be higher than any offensive duo since the regular season went from 154 games to 162 in 1961.”

That’s not to mention ace Luis Gil who has gone 8-1 this season with a 1.82 ERA and is sparking Rookie of the Year and All Star Game starter buzz.

As for the Dodgers, they’ve won five of their last ten; midway through that run, they swept the Mets.
