Barcelona port facilities & location.

The Port of Barcelona is a popular departure port for Mediterranean cruises and is a little less than an hour’s walk away from the center of the city. You can also take a bus shuttle service that runs between the port terminal and the famous Christopher Columbus monument that welcomes visitors at one of the ends of Las Ramblas. Another option is to travel by taxi, which will get you downtown in about 20 minutes.

Top Sights & Landmarks to See Before Cruises From Barcelona

La sagrada família.

Barcelona’s most iconic monument and an absolute must-see for any visitor is the world-renowned La Sagrada Familia, envisioned and created by the famous architect, Antoni Gaudi. As a religious man, Gaudi devoted a large part of his life to this majestic, towering cathedral and unfortunately died before its completion. The sheer size of its majestic towers and the immaculate detail displayed on every square inch of the cathedral and basilica—both indoors and outdoors—is unparalleled. La Sagrada Familia was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, and Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the basilica in November of 2010.

Santa Maria del Mar Basilica

The Santa Maria del Mar Basilica might seem simple when compared to La Sagrada Familia, but this Gothic cathedral is equally as stunning. It is the only surviving church in the pure Catalan Gothic style and is notable because of its intricate stained-glass windows and unifying proportions. While most churches took centuries to build, Santa Maria del Mar was completed in only 55 years, from 1329 to 1383. Known as the “People’s Church,” the basilica has suffered through extensive damage twice: First during the 1428 earthquake and later in 1936, when rioters burned parts of its facade for 11 days straight during the Spanish Civil War. After both instances, the cathedral was rebuilt to its former state.

Casa Milà (Pedrera)

In 1905, Pere Mila and his wife, Roser Segimon, purchased a plot of land measuring over 1,800 square meters and commissioned Gaudi to build a new property for them. This gigantic structure—often the ridicule of their peers and contemporaries—became their home with attached apartments that the couple would rent for profit. Casa Mila became known as La Pedrera (“the stone quarry”) because its façade seemed nothing like a mansion, but more of a strange stone monstrosity to locals. Casa Mila was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.

Casa Batlló

In 1904, Josep Batlló commissioned Gaudi to build this stunning, dreamlike structure. The tiny details will astound you, and the surprising dragon-shaped roof makes Casa Batlló impossible to miss during your visit to Barcelona. The imaginative design was inspired by both the ocean waves and dragons, and stands out even among the ornately-decorated homes that line the Passeig de Gracia. Tour the grounds using an interactive video guide that accompanies your audio tour, showing you in virtual reality form what the different spaces looked like long ago.

Learn More About Barcelona Shore Excursions

Top things to do in barcelona, spain, shop along las ramblas.

The famous pedestrian walkway known as Las Ramblas is nearly a mile long and is one of the city’s major thoroughfares, leading from just across from the Barcelona cruise terminal port to Plaza de Catalunya in the center of old Barcelona. As you stroll, you’ll pass restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, street performers, street food vendors, and a famous food market called Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria (or simply “la Boqueria”). If you stroll the entire length of Las Ramblas, you’ll end up in Plaza de Catalunya, an enormous square with fountains, a small park, and plenty of photo-worthy sights.

Visit Barcelona’s Sport Stadiums

Every sports enthusiast will be thrilled to visit the city of Barcelona for its many sports stadiums, whether you’re exploring before or after a cruise from Barcelona. The Olympic Stadium was actually built before the Olympics existed, but it was remodeled for the event held in Barcelona in 1992. Soccer fans can visit Camp Nou Stadium, home of FC Barcelona (or “Barca” as the locals call them). Camp Nou holds nearly 99,000 fans and is Europe’s largest stadium. Go on a tour of the stadium and see everything from the team’s changing rooms to the tunnel, the press area, and more.

Explore Park Güell

Park Güell is yet another stunning representation of Gaudi’s unique design and vision. In 1900, a rich count purchased a massive plot of land and designated it to be a ‘garden city’ for the city’s wealthiest patrons. Gaudi’s design of the park and homes inside the garden city proved to be too elaborate for their time, and the project was unfortunately abandoned in 1914. The two houses and park grounds make up a magical place that will sweep you away as it showcases some of Barcelona’s famous sights and symbols.

Walk Around Barceloneta

Once a quaint fishing village, this highly sought-after area is now an adorable beachfront neighborhood with brightly colored houses and a charming beach that faces the Mediterranean Sea. If you continue to follow the waterfront, you eventually reach Port Olimpic with its bars, cafes, and small shops. Stop in the Casino de Barcelona to try your luck or enjoy a floor show.

Stroll Through Barcelona's Gothic Quarter

One of the most well-known districts in all of Europe is Barcelona’s well-defined and fascinatingly unique Barri Gotic , or “Gothic Quarter.” Mystical and strange, yet beautiful and cleverly unique, the architecture of Barcelona’s stunning Gothic Quarter is a must-visit highlight. The 13th-century architecture that defines this area has a mystical old Europe feel, and the streets are winding and narrow, like corridors running through the city. While visiting the Gothic Quarter, be sure to spend some time in El Born, the trendier neighborhood known for its hip galleries, shops, restaurants, bars, and small cafes.

Where can I eat in Barcelona?

You’ll find plenty of restaurants, bars, cafes, and street food vendors along Las Ramblas. However, if you prefer to taste the truly authentic Catalan and Spanish-style cuisine on your Barcelona cruise, it is worth taking a stroll down the backstreets to discover the hidden culinary gems of this city.

Boqueria Food Market

More than just a fresh produce market, this world-renowned attraction plays host to many bar-style restaurants serving freshly prepared local cuisine in a lively setting.

Owned by Pep, one of the friendliest locals you’ll meet, Cal Pep is one of Barcelona’s best-known spots for tapas.

Can Culleretes

Local specialty dishes are the main draw of Can Culleretes, one of the oldest restaurants in Barcelona.

Los Caracoles

Famous for its caracoles (snails), Los Caracoles is another of the oldest restaurants in Barcelona, and it is also unique for its outside stone rotisserie.

What’s the culture & history of Barcelona?

There are two legends that describe the story of Barcelona’s founding—one attributing the city’s foundation to the mythological demi-god Hercules, and the other that states that Carthaginian general Hamilcar Barca, Hannibal’s father, founded the city in the 3rd century BC and named it Barcino after his family’s lineage. Barcelona was conquered and inhabited by the Visigoths in the early 5th century, transforming it into the capital of all Hispania for a few years. Barcelona became a hub for Catalan Separatism during the Catalan Revolt of 1640 to 1652 against Philip IV of Spain. During the Spanish Civil War, Barcelona continued to thrive as the second-largest city in Spain in the center of a region that remained relatively prosperous.

In recent history, the Summer Olympics came to Barcelona in 1992. To prepare for the games and the massive crowds that would accompany them, many industrial buildings and businesses that lined the waterfront in Barcelona were demolished to make room for a two-mile beach for tourists to enjoy. New construction projects popped up all around the city, resulting in more beaches, parks, and nature-centered areas. All these changes and improvements to city life transformed Barcelona into one of the most-visited cities in the world.

Where can I go shopping near the Barcelona cruise port?

The street stalls, vendors, and small shops that line Las Ramblas are an excellent place to find inexpensive souvenirs, such as FC Barcelona football memorabilia, small trinkets, leather bags and shoes, as well as hand-crafted ceramics and lacework made by local artists.

How can I get around Barcelona?

Barcelona is a pedestrian-friendly city with plenty of public transportation options. From the Port Terminal, there is a shuttle bus service that will drop you off directly in Las Ramblas. If you’re looking to explore Barcelona in a short amount of time, you can board one of the hop-on, hop-off tour buses that visit major landmarks and popular tourist destinations. If you prefer to explore the city on your own, you can also use any of the bus routes, metro lines, or taxis found all over the city.

What are the local currency & tipping customs?

In Barcelona, the currency is the euro. You won’t have any trouble finding ATMs throughout the city, especially in heavily populated areas like Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter. Should you need currency exchange services, you will find these in the airport, most major banks, and in currency exchange offices on Las Ramblas. The exchange offices are typically open for later hours than banks, but you will receive a better exchange rate at most banks. Tipping in Barcelona is not expected, but if you do feel inclined to do so, leave anything from 5% to 10% as a token of appreciation for great service.

Sailing from Barcelona

Faqs about barcelona.

Barcelona follows a similar weather pattern to Europe, with July and August being the hottest months and December and January being the coldest. Temperatures can easily reach late 20°C or early 30°C (75-90°F). The months of  April-May and September-October, are generally considered the most pleasant times to visit. You’ll find the temperatures milder than in June, July, and August, yet still with plenty of warmth and sunshine.

From cafés and bars serving local Spanish favourites to a la carte cuisine from around the world, Barcelona offers a wealth of dining choices.

Off Las Ramblas, you’ll find the city’s famous La Boqueria market, with its tapas bars offering counter-style seating and vendors selling native Spanish produce. The Ramblas itself is also lined with places to eat and drink, although prices here tend to be high, simply because it’s such a prime tourist hotspot.

The Spanish generally eat late, around 2pm for lunch and 9pm for dinner, so expect restaurants and bars to be busiest at these times.

One of the best value ways to enjoy a sit-down meal at lunchtime is to opt for the ‘menu del dia’ or menu of the day. Offered in many Barcelona restaurants, this lunchtime deal typically includes two or three courses served with bread and a drink for a reasonable fixed price.

The local currency in Barcelona is the Euro. Tipping isn’t mandatory, but in restaurants and bars it’s generally common practice to round-up to the nearest Euro or leave a little change for your server.

Barcelona cruise port is located at the foot of Barcelona’s most famous street, Las Ramblas, right in the heart of the city centre.

Barcelona port has nine terminals, seven of which are designed to facilitate cruise ships. There are porters to provide assistance to those who need it, plenty of bathrooms, and Wi-Fi. You’ll also find ample seating, bars and restaurants, and some children’s play areas.

Barcelona’s airport, Barcelona-El Prat Airport, is roughly 15km/10 miles from the city centre and the cruise port. The simplest way to travel between the two is to pick up a taxi outside the airport - the journey will take around half an hour. Alternatively, you could choose the public metro and bus service. Take the metro Line 9 at the airport, and transfer to Line 3 at Zona Universitaria. Then get off at Drassanes station, at the end of La Rambla. Around 5 minute walk from here, you can hop on a cruise shuttle bus known as the T3/PortBus, which comes every 15 minutes or so.

6 Top Transatlantic Cruises for 2024

T ransatlantic cruises are unique when you compare them to traditional cruises most people book for family trips and romantic getaways. These voyages tend to be longer in general, and they have more built-in days at sea and offer a lot more time on board as a result. Repositioning cruises that include a transatlantic crossing tend to attract more retirees and travelers who just want to relax and enjoy their ships' amenities, especially since fewer days in port means fewer excursions and more time doing nothing at all.

That said, the fact that transatlantic cruises can last as few as seven nights means they may fit in your plans more easily than you may think. There are also some benefits to transatlantic crossings that may not be obvious, including lower nightly rates, more onboard credit, and more time to kick back and relax at a floating luxury resort in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

If you're curious which transatlantic cruises are best for 2024, here are six top picks with different cruise lengths, itineraries and unique destinations to explore.

Explore cruises on GoToSea , a service of U.S. News.

Cunard Line

Date: Departs May 5, 2024

Departure port: Brooklyn, New York

Starting price: $2,449 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 7 to 18 nights

In May of 2024, Cunard's Queen Mary 2 vessel will offer three different transatlantic crossings of various lengths. Choose from a seven-night sailing from Brooklyn, New York , to Southampton, England; a nine-night sailing to Hamburg, Germany ; and an 18-night round-trip sailing that departs from Brooklyn and crosses the Atlantic twice on the way back to its starting point. This unique combination of itineraries lets you cross the sea and tailor your trip to how long you want to be away from home.

The 18-night itinerary is especially interesting, since it lets you depart from the United States and arrive back in Brooklyn in the end with stops in both England and Germany, as well as plenty of sea days in between. Luxury cruise line Cunard is known for its elegant design, lush amenities and upscale feel, and the Queen Mary 2 is one of the line's most luxurious ships. Highlights on this exclusive vessel include the Royal Court Theatre, a casino, gala evenings, an onboard spa and a vast library. The Queen Mary 2 holds up to 2,691 guests with 1,173 crew to cater to your every need.

Seabourn Cruise Line

Date: Departs March 24, 2024

Departure port: Miami

Starting price: $5,949 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 21 nights

Seabourn is offering a 21-night transatlantic cruise from Miami on Seabourn Quest in March 2024 that offers a diverse range of ports of call before ending its voyage in Las Palmas in Spain's Canary Islands . Departure from Miami is followed by nine days at sea. Then, you'll enjoy multiple stops in the Canary Islands – including Santa Cruz de La Palma and San Sebastián de La Gomera – as well as stops in Praia and Mindelo the Cape Verde archipelago.

This journey with Seabourn makes it possible for travelers to see some of the most beautiful and remote tropical islands in the world. The Canary Islands are known for their white sand beaches , volcanoes and lush greenery; similar landscapes can also be found in Cape Verde's coastal towns and villages. Seabourn Quest, a smaller ocean vessel, accommodates just 229 guests.

MSC Cruises

Date: Departs Nov. 8, 2024

Departure port: Southampton, England

Starting price: $769 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 16 nights

The MSC Virtuosa from MSC Cruises is repositioning from Europe to the Caribbean in November 2024, which gives travelers the chance to enjoy a lengthy transatlantic crossing with plenty of unique ports. This sailing departs from England with eight sea days plus stops in France, the Azores of Portugal, St. Maarten , Antigua and Barbuda, and Martinique . The ship ends its journey in Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

The MSC Virtuosa is a larger cruise vessel that boasts an impressive grand promenade with a LED dome ceiling, dedicated clubs for children and teens, an onboard spa, a lavish casino and the luxurious MSC Yacht Club section of the ship. This vessel holds a maximum of 6,334 passengers at once.

Princess Cruises

Date: Departs July 5, 2024

Departure port: New York City (Manhattan or Brooklyn)

Starting price: $4,098 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 31 nights

Princess Cruises also offers its share of transatlantic sailings on various vessels. Its 31-night crossing from New York to Barcelona, Spain , on Island Princess in July 2024 is jam-packed with exciting destinations to explore. This lengthy transatlantic voyage has only 13 sea days with planned stops in Canada's Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, England, Spain, Portugal and Morocco before the journey ends in Barcelona.

This intriguing sailing experience with Princess takes passengers to eight different countries in the span of a month. Island Princess is a nice ship for a long sailing because of its smaller size, with just 2,200 passengers and 900 crew. But the ship is also large enough to have a huge selection of included and specialty dining options, a Vegas-style casino, a sports court, a large central atrium for gathering, and several pools and hot tubs to enjoy.

Celebrity Cruises

Date: Departs April 11, 2024

Departure port: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Starting price: $760 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 12 nights

Celebrity Cruises is offering a 12-night sailing on Celebrity Equinox in April 2024 that starts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida , and ends in Lisbon, Portugal – making it possible for travelers to enjoy eight relaxing days at sea. What's interesting about this sailing is its stops along the way, which include the Royal Naval Dockyard in Bermuda; Porta Delgada in Portugal's Azores archipelago; and Porto in mainland Portugal.

The Celebrity Equinox accommodates a maximum of just 2,852 passengers at once, so this Celebrity vessel is a solid choice for travelers who want just the right size ship instead of a smaller vessel or a megaship. There are also plenty of onboard features to keep you happy and entertained as you float across the Atlantic Ocean, including The Casino, The Lawn Club with outdoor games like bocce ball and croquet, The Martini Bar, the adults-only Solarium and more.

Royal Caribbean International

Dates: Departs Oct. 24, 2024

Departure port: Barcelona, Spain

Starting price: $876 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 14 nights

Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas is hosting a transatlantic voyage in October 2024 that departs from Barcelona, Spain, and ends in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This vessel will make stops in Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Cartagena and Málaga in Spain, then spend eight days at sea. After that, enjoy a day in Nassau in the Bahamas before the cruise drops passengers off in sunny Florida.

Interior staterooms on this Royal Caribbean sailing start at just $876 per person (plus port taxes and fees), which works out to around $60 per night, per person. The Oasis of the Seas megaship can hold a total of 6,771 guests and 2,109 crew, so it's an enormous vessel – to put it mildly. This size may not be ideal for travelers who want a more intimate cruising experience, but it's perfect for cruisers who want plenty of space to spread out and endless activities to take part in. Oasis of the Seas boasts 20 different restaurants and cafes, 11 bars and lounges, a variety of pools and whirlpools, a rock climbing wall, the AquaTheater diving and entertainment venue, mini-golf, a casino and plenty more.

Book a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to The Great Land on one of these top luxury ships.

Cruising to Alaska on a small luxury ship affords a very different experience than sailing through The Great Land on a larger vessel. On a smaller luxury ship, you'll enjoy the expected perks like fewer passengers and more personalized service – but you'll also physically get closer to the boundless wilderness, abundant wildlife, icy blue glaciers and majestic snow-capped mountains that you've waited a lifetime to see.

While the fares to sail on such vessels are quite a bit higher than those of larger cruise providers, the all-inclusive (or mostly all-inclusive) prices typically include all-suite accommodations with balconies, all meals, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, 24-hour room service, Wi-Fi access, gratuities, welcome bottles of sparkling wine, pillow selection, some shore excursions and butler service. Best of all, you won't feel like you're being nickel-and-dimed while on board. As a special touch, the attentive crew members may even learn your name and memorize your preferred pre-dinner cocktail.

Unlike many mainstream lines, most luxury Alaska cruises do not offer pre- and post-cruise tours to extend your adventure. However, you can plan these experiences on your own through third-party providers.

Alaska Tour & Travel has pre-cruise packages that include visits to Denali National Park & Preserve and the small, quirky Alaska towns of Homer and Talkeetna. You can also see a different side of Alaska via a train ride on the Alaska Railroad, take a national parks tour that includes Kenai Fjords National Park or head northbound to Fairbanks , one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights (if you visit during aurora season, from late August to late April). In addition, the company can plan a self-drive tour from Anchorage to Seward, which includes a stay at a wilderness lodge, helicopter flightseeing over Knik Glacier and guided tours in the parks.

The following luxury cruise lines will ensure you make the most of your voyage in Alaska – one of the most magical destinations on Earth.

Silversea Cruises

Silversea Cruises' small luxury ships are designed for adventurers interested in visiting a mix of Alaska's top ports and more rugged, off-the-beaten-track locales. Extended itineraries offer stops in less-visited destinations like the towns of Haines and Wrangell. On board, guests can expect a personalized experience that includes luxurious ocean-view suites with butler service, multiple gourmet dining options, complimentary alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, and attentive service with one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in the industry.

Base fares for Silversea's 2024 and 2025 Alaska itineraries start at $3,250 per person. If you upgrade to Silversea 's door-to-door fare (which starts at $5,200 per person), you'll receive private chauffeur service from your home to the airport (and back home upon your return) and round-trip flights, with business class upgrades in some destinations.

Silversea also offers immersive pre- and post-cruise land experiences, departing from Seward, Alaska. Highlights include sightseeing flights over Denali National Park & Preserve or into bear country to see Alaska's magnificent grizzly bears. In Vancouver, travelers can take a flightseeing transfer to Victoria to tour the 55-acre Butchart Gardens or board the Rocky Mountaineer for a two-day train ride through the Canadian Rockies.

Silversea's Alaska itineraries extend from May to September, with voyages ranging between seven and 16 days. The line's newest and largest vessel, the 728-passenger Silver Nova , sails its inaugural Alaska season in 2024 along with two smaller ships, Silver Muse (596 guests) and Silver Shadow (392 guests). There are 35 Alaska voyages available in 2024. In 2025, luxury cruisers can hop aboard one of 45 scheduled voyages on either Silver Nova or the 596-guest Silver Moon .

For a seven-day itinerary, consider a sailing from Seward, Alaska, to Vancouver, British Columbia. This voyage cruises the Hubbard Glacier and the Inside Passage and stops in the Alaska towns of Juneau, Skagway, Sitka and Ketchikan. Complimentary excursions in Ketchikan include a tour of Saxman Native Village; a visit to Bonfire Bay Oyster Farm, featuring a sea-to-table oyster tasting; the Alaskan Cultural, Culinary & Lumberjack show; the Alaskan Lodge Adventure & Seafeast and a day as a fisherman aboard the Aleutian Ballard, as seen on Discovery Channel's "The Deadliest Catch." You can also opt for a Selected Shore Excursion (for an additional cost), such as mountain biking or a private fishing trip.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises' elegant Seven Seas Explorer sails the line's Alaska itineraries in 2024 and 2025. The lavish 746-guest ship was coined "The Most Luxurious Ship Ever Built" when it debuted in 2016; among its impressive features are the 3,875-square-foot Regent Suite and a high-end collection of art displayed throughout the ship, including works by Pablo Picasso.

Alaska voyages with Regent in 2024 and 2025 start at $4,799 per person. Upgraded 2-for-1 all-inclusive fares (starting at $5,499 per person) cover elegant all-balcony suite accommodations; round-trip airfare (business class on international flights); a one-night pre-cruise hotel package; free two- or three-night land programs; free unlimited shore excursions; free unlimited beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic); complimentary specialty dining; and prepaid gratuities. You'll also receive complimentary airport transfers, unlimited Wi-Fi access and valet laundry service.

Every suite style includes a private balcony, roomy closets and upscale finishes. Concierge Suites (and above) add cozy in-room amenities like cashmere blankets, perfect to bundle up in while you take in the scenery. Meanwhile, Penthouse Suites (and higher) include a private butler who can book excursions, make dinner and spa reservations, unpack your luggage, arrange for a private cocktail soiree in your suite and indulge any other special requests.

Between May and September 2024, Regent sails 22 Alaska voyages. There are 16 Alaska sailings scheduled for the same period in 2025. Itineraries range from seven to 14 nights. For plenty of scenic cruising days, consider a round-trip itinerary from Vancouver departing May 28, 2025. The cruise includes five relaxing days at sea, where you'll enjoy scenic cruising through the Inside Passage (twice), Hubbard Glacier (twice) and Endicott Arm Fjord. Ports of call in Alaska include Wrangell, Juneau , Skagway, Sitka, Seward, Icy Strait (Hoonah) and Ketchikan. You'll also have a full day in Victoria, British Columbia, before returning to Vancouver.

While in Wrangell, consider the Tongass Botanical Forest Walk excursion. Tongass National Forest is the largest national forest in the U.S., with towering old-growth trees and unique flora, fauna and ecosystems. While in the temperate rainforest with your naturalist guide, look for local wildlife like Sitka black-tailed deer, porcupines and birds of prey. Other complimentary excursions at this stop include a round of golf at Muskeg Meadows Golf Course; a canoe trip through Wrangell harbor and nearby islands, and a heritage tour about Tlingit culture and the history of the town.

Nobu restaurant on a Crystal cruise ship.

Recently relaunched Crystal offers just seven voyages in Alaska aboard Crystal Serenity in July and August 2024. The 740-guest luxury vessel was refurbished in 2023 and features the line's signature top-notch service, elegant interiors and suites, and personal butler service in every room category.

Other perks and amenities include plush bathrobes and Sicily's Ortigia bath products; an impressive passenger-to-crew ratio; prepaid gratuities; complimentary beverages; and outstanding cuisine, including Umi Uma (an exclusive Nobu restaurant at sea, available only on Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony ). Guests can also feast on Italian cuisine at Osteria d'Ovidio; book an exclusive dining experience at The Vintage Room; indulge in Parisian cafe-style fare at The Bistro; opt for American cuisine at Waterside Restaurant or take their pick of several other casual indoor and alfresco options.

Cruisers also have their selection of unique shore experiences curated by Crystal's parent company A&K Travel Group, such as a ride on the world's largest zip line in Hoonah (Icy Strait Point); dog sledding and glacier flightseeing in Skagway; fishing and wilderness dining in Ketchikan and the Wildlife Quest and Fin Island Lodge experience in Sitka, boasting a feast of Alaska king crab and wild salmon.

Crystal offers seven- and eight-night round-trip voyages from Vancouver , as well as one-way cruises from Vancouver or Seward, Alaska. Select itineraries – like the July 30, 2024, voyage from Vancouver to Seward – offer a scenic cruising day in the Seymour Narrows in British Columbia. On this sailing, you'll also enjoy a day at sea cruising Hubbard Glacier, as well as stops in Ketchikan, Sitka, Hoonah (Icy Strait), Skagway and Sitka in Alaska. Or, opt for the July 2, 2024, round-trip sailing from Vancouver for three scenic cruising days in the Inside Passage, Endicott Arm and the Seymour Narrows.

The line's Aug. 13, 2024, round-trip sailing from Vancouver features a special guest: Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio, the executive chairman of A&K Travel Group. As such, the cruise will include an exclusive gala dinner and other unique experiences. Other special voyages welcome marine biologist and National Geographic photographer Flip Nicklin, who will share personal stories from his extensive career and expert insights about humpback whale habitats and behaviors.

Viking Ocean Cruises' 11-day Alaska & the Inside Passage cruise is available on 11 dates during the 2024 season. It sails from Vancouver to Seward (or the reverse) on the 930-passenger Viking Orion . In 2025, the line offers the same itinerary on 22 dates between May and September, split between Viking Orion and its sister ship, the 930-passenger Viking Sea .

Viking's destination-focused itineraries are curated for travelers who are interested in history, science, culture and cuisine, as they feature onboard enrichment like lectures by Viking's resident historians. You'll also find regionally inspired dishes in The Restaurant and special access to unique tours and excursions ashore.

The line's mostly all-inclusive fares cover accommodations in spacious all-veranda staterooms and suites; beer, wine and soft drinks at lunch and dinner; meals at all the dining venues; one shore excursion in every port; free Wi-Fi access; 24-hour specialty teas, coffees and bottled water; complimentary access to The Nordic Spa & Fitness Center; and other upscale amenities.

Voyages traveling northbound from Vancouver include one day of scenic cruising through the Inside Passage before stopping in Ketchikan, Sitka, Juneau, Skagway and Icy Strait Point in Alaska. The eighth day of the cruise sails through picturesque Yakutat Bay, which includes the Hubbard Glacier. The ship then calls on Valdez, Alaska, before the trip ends with two days in Seward.

While in Valdez, take an optional tour to explore the incredible scenery surrounding the small fishing town. Viking offers a kayaking trip to see the Valdez Glacier; a scenic cruise through picturesque Prince William Sound to view the Columbia Glacier; a wildlife cruise where you can look for humpback whales, orcas, porpoises, sea otters and bald eagles; a helicopter ride over the area's rugged, icy wilderness; or a UTV adventure through the Chugach Mountains to Mineral Creek Canyon.

Seabourn Cruise Line

Between May and August 2024, Seabourn Cruise Line will host 20 Alaska voyages aboard the Seabourn Odyssey , before the ship leaves the cruise line in the fall. In 2025, the line offers 27 Alaska sailings on Seabourn Quest. Both yacht-inspired ships accommodate up to 458 guests and feature Seabourn's signature all-inclusive amenities, including luxurious oceanfront suites with verandas; personalized service; complimentary fine wines and premium spirits; complimentary dining; and caviar served throughout the sailing. You'll also have a complimentary W-Fi package and an in-suite minibar stocked with your favorite beverages. Ashore, sign up for exclusive programs like shopping for fresh salmon, halibut and Alaska king crab alongside a Seabourn chef.

Guests booking Seabourn Quest for 2025 will be able to sample the line's new dining concept, Solis. Inspired by destinations in the Mediterranean, the menu features a fresh, modern take on traditional dishes and whimsical cocktails. The restaurant is a collaboration with master chef and culinary partner Anton Egger and senior corporate chef Franck Salein. In addition to dishes like salt-encrusted whole branzino and Tuscan-style steak, guests will also find a wide selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes.

The seven-day Alaska Fjords & Canadian Inside Passage itinerary on May 31, 2024, aboard Seabourn Odyssey, sails from Juneau to Vancouver and includes a day in either Tracy Arm or Endicott Arm, depending on the ice conditions. From there, you can take one of the optional guided excursions: Ventures by Seabourn. These tours are an additional cost but offer opportunities for up-close Zodiac, kayaking or catamaran experiences in the wilderness to see glaciers calving and view local wildlife, such as black bears, mountain goats, seals, wolves and seabirds.

You'll also enjoy many days of scenic cruising on this voyage, and have the opportunity for more optional adventures in Rudyerd Bay (Misty Fjords). The ship makes additional stops in Wrangell, Alaska, and Prince Rupert, British Columbia, before disembarking in Vancouver.

If you want to see stunning Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve, then consider booking the seven-day Alaska Inside Passage & Glacier Bay sailing on May 10, 2024, from Vancouver to Juneau. This itinerary also includes the Seymour Narrows and Snow Pass, cruising Queen Island Sound and the Lynn Canal. There's a stop for Ventures by Seabourn activities like kayaking and Zodiac rides in the Inian Islands. The Alaska ports of call on this voyage are Ketchikan, Sitka, Icy Strait Point and Haines. You'll disembark in Juneau.

Bed in cabin on PONANT Le Soléal.

French luxury expedition line PONANT offers 10 Alaska cruises in 2024; itineraries span between seven and 11 nights. Aboard the 264-guest yacht-style Le Soléal, you'll meet up to 10 naturalist experts and guides specializing in geology, history, ornithology or marine or land mammals. Guests can attend onboard lectures and embark on Zodiac landings with the guides.

The ship features elegant staterooms and suites, a library, a spa, a hair salon and a gym. Guests will be treated to movies in the theater, wine tastings and cooking demonstrations throughout the expedition. All fine dining meals, 24-hour room service, an open bar (including an in-room minibar) and complimentary and unlimited Wi-Fi access are covered in the pricing.

Two of PONTANT's eight-night voyages from Vancouver to Sitka are in partnership with Smithsonian Journeys and are curated for English-speaking travelers. Fares for these expeditions include transfers to and from the ship and a shore excursion in each port. On board, you can attend talks and discussions hosted by two Smithsonian Journeys experts: geologist Scott Burns and natural history filmmaker John Grabowska.

On these voyages, there is a sea day after departing Vancouver. You'll cruise through the Johnstone Strait, where you'll have an excellent chance of seeing humpback whales and orcas. After a day spent in the Inside Passage, the ship will call on the village of Metlakatla, Alaska, on the western coast of Annette Island, which is home to the Tsimshians from British Columbia. Other unique Alaska ports of call in this itinerary include the commercial fishing town of Petersburg, the Tlingit village of Kake and the small fishing community of Alfin Cove.
