During a trip to Las Vegas, I was coerced and deceived by two Westgate salespeople. They assured me that I was purchasing property, that I would own it outright after 10 years, that my grandson could live there while he was attending college, and that I could even use it to earn rental income. At no point did they inform me how this timeshare worked, and I am now experiencing financial hardship because of their lies and coercion. Comparing the costs of the timeshare vs. a hotel, they pitched us a number which I flat out refused. It was significantly higher than what I could afford, and I explained as much. They followed up by stating that this would still be cheaper eventually and would grant us access to fabulous locations around the world. When they lowered the number, I refused again. I remember asking if my grandson could live there while he was attending college, and they said yes. This was the key to convincing me to buy. If they had explained how frequently I would be able to use this contract (zero times) I obviously never would’ve moved forward with buying it. Unfortunately, that never happened though, and I was convinced my grandson could live there, which seemed like a dream come true. The length of the sales pitch was over 5 hours, and the time we spent reviewing paperwork was less than 30 minutes. I was never told that my maintenance fees would increase over time. I was never told that I could rescind this contract according to Nevada law. And I was never told about the stunning lack of availability. Instead of being provided with the information I needed, I was told a pack of lies. I was assured that I would own this outright and could live there–or have my grandson live there–after I had finished paying it off. This was crucial in my decision-making process, and if I learned that this wasn’t possible then I wouldn’t have agreed to sign. I feel ashamed that I got involved with this company, but to my credit I was conned. Shame on Westgate Resorts.

Don't Be Fooled!!

Westgate’s incompetence has left us with over $10,000 worth of debt, when this was pitched to us as the ‘most cost-effective way to travel’. This is bogus! We could go out of the country for less than half that amount and stay at a much nicer resort, and for a longer amount of time. Since being an ‘owner’ of Westgate for a year and a half now, we have not been able to use our timeshare ONE TIME!! Everyone was nice at first, and after declining their offers several times, their attitudes changed dramatically, from nice and charming to arrogant and pushy. We felt the pressure to sign, even though we did not want this and made that clear to the salesmen. If Westgate’s persistent salesmen could take a hint and understand that the word ‘no’ means no, and there’s no exception to that, than we wouldn’t be here! Now, being an owner, it is far more expensive to travel than being a non-owner. With monthly mortgage payments and maintenance fee payments, when you book a vacation, they still charge more money when making a reservation. This is the worst consumer product on the market!

I have been a westgate lake resort’s…

I have been a westgate lake resort’s owner for the past 15 years. Unfortunately I have been going through a financial hardship for the past two years that unfortunately has prevented me from paying the maintenance and tax fees. I am finally recovering and decided to contact them to discuss about payment options. I called them twice today and spoke with two different people but I wasn’t going anywhere with neither one. So I requested to speak with a manager. The person I spoke with the 2nd time told me unless I am able to pay my fees in full, I won’t be able to speak with anyone else and that message is coming directly from their manager. Instead, they gave me two different phone numbers to call because there is nothing they can do for me since my file is flagged to call those numbers below 1888 831 1844 and 1760 929 6685 I’m disappointed because in their website they claim they have options for owners who are going through financial hardships. I’m disappointed because they that they are not interested a bit on what really is going on in our lives!!😢 Ugh!!

Don't Do the timeshare 90 minutes tour. It will be 4hr plus. Feeling like a hostage.

The only reason I went to this hotel was for the ridiculous timeshare tour. The guy giving us the tour was super cool. I believe his name was Chris. The manager!!!! Rude!!! The only thing he cared about was making a sale. He repeatedly threw shots at me because I wasn't interested. Things like. I don't cook for my husband. Second if I don't want the timeshare. My husband should buy it so he could take his girlfriend. I kept my cool. Finally my husband said something. The guy got the point. After 8 different price drops. I'll never book a room with this hotel. Myrtle Beach location.

Scammers! Liars! Heartless! I want to give as many negative stars as possible! Worst company EVER!! I don’t know how they can sleep at night knowing how they suck people dry of their hard earned money!!! They lied about when we could use our week, lied about the $800+ dollars it would cost to stay “peak season” at our own resort! 6 different departments and they keep passing us from one to the next saying they don’t have the answer because it’s “not their department.” Please Beware! Worst mistake we ever made. They will suck you dry!

Westgate is the most FRAUDULENT company…

Westgate is the most fraudulent company I’ve ever encountered!! They kept us cooped up in the Sales room all day when it was supposed to be just a 1-hour meeting. I was over 60 at the time of presentation and feel like Westgate used that to manipulate me into signing. They use anything and everything against you and force your hand to sign. This “Investment” has cost me so much money, and for nothing. I can’t use it when I want, can’t go where I want. I’m better off going to one of those travel sites, like Priceline.com or something. Now I’m in a Contract that’s such a hassle, and burden!! DO NOT GET SUCKERED into this elder abuse scheme!

Westgate is the best scammer and stealer of them all. I did a name change transfer to another person and they did not remove my card from the file. charingin me their HOA and stealing my money. When I dispute it with the bank West gate send in old and false information so that they continue to get me money! What a scam and pain in the ass.

Nothing but lies and hidden costs

We were so excited for the opportunity to take a low-cost vacation with Westgate. We were told the property would increase in value, be easy to resell, we could pass the property deed on to our children after we pass, yearly maintenance fees would be low, and we would even receive a free membership to Westgate Cruise and Travel so we could use our points towards cruises. On a return trip, they had us sit through another presentation which was advertised as a new owner orientation, but it was just another sales presentation. This time they convinced us to upgrade so we could get better rooms and availability. Unfortunately, ALL of these are false, and Westgate had lied to our faces during both sales. We feel like we were manipulated and taken advantage of.

When I think “Westgate”

When I think “Westgate”, I no longer think of the fun and exciting vacations I was promised. Now I think of all the frustration I felt when I initially found out that everything the salesman sold me on was a load of BS. I think about the disappointment my family and I feel every time we try to book a vacation and can’t because there is never anything open. I think about the irritation of being defrauded and still expected to pay tens of thousands of dollars for nothing. I have one week that can only be used during specific times AND only during odd numbered years. This makes it terribly difficult to vacation. Funny how in the multiple hours of being harassed, no one mentioned that I would also have to pay fees to separate my week on top of the ridiculous amount of the monthly payments. The irony now is that I am working more to pay for a useless timeshare and not spending as much time with my family. What a joke.

Timeshare Cancellation Request- Promises Not Kept

It is high time we end our 17-year, one-sided relationship with Westgate Resorts. We now realize that we were simply easy marks for their unethical salespeople, who continued to rob us blind for several years. They will trap you in a room for hours on end and fill your head with dream vacation thoughts, but really, they are just giving you misinformation while omitting the most important FACTS. This is not a real estate investment, that can be rented or resold. You cannot refinance this loan at a bank. Your family WILL be burdened with this very high debt, low quality product which remains in perpetuity. Westgate loves that word perpetuity; it accurately describes how long the established timeline is to be ripped off in a Westgate Resorts contract. We have used our membership 8 times in 17 years; that equals approximately $6k per vacation at sub-par resorts. This has been by far the worst business-consumer relationship either of us have had to deal with in our lives, and we will no longer tolerate the financial abuse and fraud.

Westgate Resort Nightmare

TO: Westgate. I sent a letter to you dated 07/28/23 and we have gotten no response to it. We saw it was delivered, yet it seems like no one has given it the time of day. So here is a summary of the things we were lied to about to warn everyone else as it appears that Westgate doesn't care about ripping people off. Our loan was higher than we were told, our heirs are forced to inherit this timeshare and all of its negative aspects we were never told about, the rescission period was left out of the closing meeting, we could generate rental income and their resorts are exclusive to their owners. If we had not been rushed into purchasing this timeshare or through the signing process we would have had time to go over the contract. It was so rushed and we were told the price we were given would only be available that day, but the price we were given was not the one we signed for. If you want to understand what high pressure sales tactics look like, just sign up for a presentation and clear your schedule. The 90 minutes they said the presentation would last turned into 8 grueling hours.

I was involved in WG TS back in 2013-2015, I was able to get out of it myself with a .99c book on Amazon. It took 3 months to get out but a lawyer tried charging me $18k and I did it for .99c and a few months. I came to WG recently and they tried the same tactics as before promising a revenue stream which is total BS, anyone can get the same deals and better without paying WG.

DO NOT FALL FOR THE WESTGATE TIMESHARE…

DO NOT FALL FOR THE WESTGATE TIMESHARE LIE! This was a huge mistake for my family and me. We were told that we would only need to make one-time mortgage payment and would be able to vacation forever without having to pay any maintenance fees! What a joke! The sales team pressured us for three hours, and made promises that it was very easy to rent/sell the unit and it would be a good income source. We finally gave in based on the promise that there were no maintenance fees, but this was all a lie. We found out the hard way that we cannot travel during peak seasons without being forced to pay fees that they never disclosed during the high-pressure sales pitch. And even worse, when we finally did manage to book a vacation at Westgate, the rooms were dated, dirty, and not at all like the ones we were shown during our sales presentation. We have tried to cancel this timeshare multiple times, but they refuse to help us. Half the time we can’t even get a response from them. It is some of the worst customer experience we have ever seen. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this deceitful company

Avoid Westgate Resorts!

We were deceived on so many levels by Westgate Resorts. Our original purchase seemed on the up and up until we were done eating breakfast. Then we were pressured and told what turned out to be lies for the next 2 1⁄2 hours. We were told if we couldn’t use our timeshare we would be able to rent it and get our money back from the investment. This is not true. We were told we would be able to stay in beautiful rooms. This is not true. The rooms we have stayed in on the handful of times have been subpar to say the least. Anytime you do actually use the timeshare, they demand you attend another meeting. We walked out of one and the sales person followed us! If you don’t agree to set the meeting they will harass you every day. We stopped using the timeshare for this and many other reasons. Now they won’t even respond to us. They sold us a useless product through manipulation and lies, but refuse to answer us when we call them out on the lies. Traveling to a Westgate resort in the first place has now become our biggest regret.

Michigan Central concert among most memorable evenings of homegrown music in years

westgate tour reviews

What does Detroit renewal sound like? Thursday night, it was loud, soulful, righteous and swelling with pride.

On one of the most memorable evenings of homegrown music shared by the city in many years, Diana Ross switched on the party, Jack White turned up the dial, and Eminem brought it all to a crescendo at the resurrected Michigan Central Station.

About 20,000 eager concertgoers piled into Roosevelt Park for the much-anticipated free event, held to celebrate the reopening of the 111-year-old, long-abandoned train station following its dramatic makeover by Ford Motor Co. More than a dozen genre-spanning musical acts — along with athletes, actors, civic officials and community figures — took the stage to create a special moment with the on-site crowd and others tuning in from across the region and world.

The tapestry of Detroit music was set against the striking backdrop of the handsomely lit Michigan Central, a longtime relic of decay transformed into an 18-story landmark of hope.

The show, produced by a team of top-end music and broadcast veterans, was crisp and polished, managing to serve up a fresh highlight every few minutes.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Ross launched the evening with time-tested elegance, taking the stage in a billowy, sequined orange gown and a buoyant “I’m Coming Out,” part of an 11-minute set capped by her Motown classic “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” Like most of Thursday’s performers, she was backed by a versatile house band led by musical director Adam Blackstone.

The setting sun that greeted Ross eventually gave way to the nightfall that would accompany Eminem’s potent finale — where the Detroit Symphony Orchestra added its grandeur to a set punctuated by fireworks and special guests.

More: 'Detroit, we love you': Eminem caps memorable night at Michigan Central Station

For Thursday’s audience, Eminem was a not-so-shocking surprise: Going into the show, he’d been billed as an executive producer though not listed on the performer lineup. So buzz was palpable as DSO musicians quietly got situated on the stage and Bill Ford, executive chair of Ford, stepped out to introduce the next performance.

The Detroit rapper, stalking the stage in a hoodie and playing his first hometown show in a decade, was in strong voice and tight flow while unleashing a four-song set that kicked off with his new retro-vibed hit, “Houdini.”

He moved on to “Sing for the Moment” with guest Jelly Roll, who sang the hook made famous by Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, before welcoming hometown hip-hop guru Trick Trick for a high-performance take on their 2005 collaboration “Welcome 2 Detroit.”

Eminem at last made his way to “Not Afraid” as the DSO’s strings brought a cinematic feel to his rousing 2010 song of triumph over tribulation.

That was a fitting closer for Thursday’s communal celebration of Detroit resurgence: “Come take my hand,” Eminem rapped in the chorus. “We’ll walk this road together through the storm.”

White had preceded Eminem with a reliably explosive performance backed by his longtime touring band. A rendition of the White Stripes’ “Hotel Yorba” — his festive homage to another area landmark — gave way to a scorching cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Hear My Train a Comin’” topped with White’s slide-guitar frenzy.

“I thought it might be all right if I played a couple of songs that were written a few blocks from right here,” the southwest Detroit native announced.

Having strapped on his well-weathered Kay Hollowbody guitar, White dove into the Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” and went on to whip up a neighborhood singalong of the seven-note riff that has become a global anthem.

Earlier, Big Sean spoke passionately about the revival of Michigan Central, centerpiece of a 30-acre campus positioned by Ford as a leading-edge technology and innovation hub. The train station saw a whole lot of Detroit history, the rapper pointed out: the rise of the auto industry, Motown, the 1967 riot, the city’s 2013 bankruptcy.

“It’s been here longer than all of us,” he said. (With the possible exception of “some of y’all OGs,” anyone 111 years old and up, he cracked.)

Michigan Central, like Detroit, went through hell and back.

“The fact that it’s gone through all this pressure, it’s a diamond that came from the rough,” Big Sean said.

The rapper’s performance included his bright and funky new song dedicated to his 1-year-old son with Jhené Aiko.

On a night that included in-person appearances by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan — along with onscreen commendations from former President Barack Obama and General Motors CEO Mary Barra — music played the central role.

A tribute to Bob Seger featured Melissa Etheridge (“Mainstreet”), Jelly Roll (“Turn the Page”) and a very invested Fantasia in a Tina Turner-esque rendition of “Shakedown.” The three then linked up for “Old Time Rock and Roll.”

A vividly outfitted Clark Sisters, backed by the Greater Emmanuel choir and joined by Kierra Sheard, delivered a medley of their gospel hits capped by an effervescent "You Brought the Sunshine.”

Old-school Detroit hip-hop reigned during a dedication to the late hip-hop producer J. Dilla, with Slum Village offering a lush “Fall in Love” and Common performing his uplifting Dilla-produced hit “The Light.”

In a show designed to run 90 minutes (it ultimately clocked in at 108), there’s only so much music to be squeezed in.

Still, it's not nitpicking to point out there was no spotlight on Aretha Franklin. No Stevie Wonder, no Temptations, no Marvin Gaye. No nod to jazz, no Grande Ballroom-era rock. That might speak to the vastness of Detroit’s musical heritage, sure. But those were glaring omissions in a show touted as a comprehensive survey of the city’s legacy.

Nevertheless, Thursday’s Michigan Central concert was a symbolic mile marker for Detroit: a gush of creative vibrance and a coming-together amid a burgeoning revival.

If the event sometimes came off like a supersize promo for Ford’s ambitious development, you could forgive the rah-rah approach. It’s hard to knock a nearly $1 billion investment and a well-intentioned recognition of Detroit community, complete with “what up doe” greetings from the stage throughout the night.

The Michigan Central concert reveled in a unique American place: a city that has intermingled cultures while innovating industry and building important things, battling its demons while fighting for triumphs. That mix — raw, yearning, hardworking, combustible — long ago ignited a distinct approach to art. It has been influential across the world, and it was the common thread onstage Thursday night.

Resurgence is a real sense in Detroit, a city where resilience is inborn and tougher tests have been endured.

And at Michigan Central, with music at the forefront, that cultural confidence reigned. Amid the nostalgic sounds and historical images, the mood was optimistic, forward-looking, defiant. Detroit knows what it has given the world, what it might be poised to give the world, and it was proud to show it off.

Eminem Pulls a 'Houdini' with Surprise Performance at Detroit Concert Event

The rapper performed his new track "Houdini," along with "Sing for the Moment," "Welcome 2 Detroit" and "Not Afraid"

westgate tour reviews

  • Eminem made a surprise appearance at the Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central event on Wednesday
  • The rapper debuted his new song "Houdini"
  • Eminem performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra behind him

Eminem is giving fans another reason to "stan" thanks to his surprise appearance at the “ Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central ” event.

Following performances by Diana Ross , Big Sean and others, the rapper, 51, shocked the audience when he took the stage at the end of the event held on Thursday, June 6.

Bill Ford, executive chair of Ford, welcomed the musician on stage, saying, "Please welcome to the stage a legend who really needs no introduction. He's a global ambassador for our city. He loves our city and our city loves him. He's joined by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Eminem."

“The Real Slim Shady” singer — who grew up just outside of Detroit and executive produced the all-star outdoor music event — then made his appearance in a gray hoodie and basketball cap as he performed his new song "Houdini," as well as "Sing for the Moment" with Jelly Roll , "Welcome 2 Detroit" with rapper Trick Trick and "Not Afraid."

In videos posted on X (former Twitter), country singer Jelly Roll, 39, could be seen performing "Dream On" ahead of the "Rap God" musician launching into a performance of "Sing for the Moment" to huge cheers from the crowd.

The star also performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra behind him as pyrotechnics lit up the stage to his songs, according to videos posted on X . His performance ended with a firework show that concluded the event.

Eminem’s family also came out to show their support at the show. His daughter Hailie Jade , 28, and her new husband Evan McClintock were spotted in the audience, while his other children Alaina Marie , 31, and Stevie Laine , 22, were also seen at the show.

On June 3, Michigan Central announced the performers for the big event and even seemingly teased Eminem’s performance, noting that “surprise special guests” were scheduled to appear. Alongside Jelly Roll, Ross, 80, and Big Sean, 36, Jack White , Common , Fantasia , the Clark Sisters , Kierra Sheard , Illa J, Melissa Etheridge , Theo Parrish, Slum Village and Sky Jetta were also announced.

In addition to the performers, the star-studded Detroit program also featured "cultural legends" and presenters like Mike Epps , Sophia Bush , Detroit Lions icon Barry Sanders and NFL stars Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown.

The event was held to celebrate the grand reopening of the Michigan Central Station in Detroit, which had closed down in 1988 after falling into disrepair. It eventually landed in the hands of Ford in 2018, and was restored over the next six years into a tech and culture hub.

Ahead of the event, a press release said the Michigan Central concert will “bring to life the spirit and soul of Detroit” with an impressive slate of musical performances, short films and appearances from local leaders and creators “telling stories of innovation and culture from around the city and the region."

In a separate statement, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said, "Detroit is known around the world for its musical talent, and having so many legendary artists kick off the celebration for the reopening of the iconic Michigan Central Station shows how meaningful this moment is for our city.”

He added, “This historic landmark symbolizes Detroit’s resilience, innovation, and now, its bright future. This is about more than preserving a piece of our past. It also is about paving the way for a new era of growth and opportunity for all Detroiters.”

Bryan makes it awfully difficult to be in a solemn mood at one of his shows, in short — his penchant for rowdy showmanship ensures that. But there’s another reason to be in a good mood, watching him play: It’s from realizing afresh just how wildly successful he has become by throwing out any playbook that exists for how to get there. His radio play is nearly non-existent… deliberately so, probably, since last week he was sending out complaining tweets when he thought his record label was actively promoting “Pink Skies” to pop radio. (He apologized when it turned out he was mistaken.) He doesn’t do television appearances or interviews. He’s never even had a flashpoint viral moment. It’s just relatable songs, rousingly performed with the spirit of an Okie-fied Springsteen or Mellencamp. This genre-unspecific music is largely being received by a segment of the mainstream country audience that’s been ditching the party anthems of that other big heartland Bryan — Luke — for this one’s more poetic fare.

And he has fantastic taste in collaborators/opening acts. Sunday and Monday is was the War and Treaty invited to Crypto to recreate a duet from his last album, “Hey Driver,” with Sierra Ferrell set to assume the same spot Tuesday night. Even if you don’t love the songs, it’d be difficult to see anything other than sheer upside in how his massive success has gone down.

But there is a lot to love about the songs, too, and not just his ornery-populist methodology. At Crypto, a lot of the two-hour running time was devoted to taking songs that are deeply interior on record and turning them into barnburners, in subtle shifts that didn’t compromise the material’s integrity. His self-titled album from last summer marked a somewhat surprising turn toward quirky, lo-fi production values, but the five songs Bryan played from that album in concert didn’t sound much different from the six he performed from 2022’s more overtly commercial “American Heartbreak.” Starting the show with the ostensibly contemplative “Overtime,” Bryan managed to turn it into more of an obvious live blockbuster just by bellowing the title word instead of murmuring it, at the end of every stanza — the kind of small shift that can make a big difference in a performance. But when it came time to end the song, he toned it down again. Bryan isn’t afraid to wrap up a tune on a hushed note, even finishing songs with an unresolved-sounding a cappella coda now and again, in an arena show that is also duty-bound to deliver a fair amount of bluster.

These songs were equal parts country, Western (not to confuse, conflate or hyphenate those two), folk, rock, and the folk-rock hybrid formerly known as stomp-and-holler. Steel guitar and lap steel (albeit not on a lap, but played in a standing position) became increasingly utilized over the course of the set, but played with more of a rock feel than anything tying them to traditional Nashville. Bryan noted that his usual violin player was absent on paternity leave, which gave a chance for a guest fiddler, Hannah Cohen, to shine in the spotlight and happily disrupt the otherwise all-male lineup. Utility player Read Connelly gets the biggest recurring comic moment of the night, during the show’s inevitable climax, “Revival,” during which he falls to the stage floor and plays dead for a pregnant pause, only to snap back to life — revival , get it? — and, from a crouch, burn through the night’s first and last major banjo solo.

The show found Bryan in a similar position to where he was when he came through Crypto.com last year for a single-nighter: about to release an album, and not about to give away too much about it. Other than “Pink Skies,” the only number he performed to preview the next record was its apparent title song, “The Great American Bar Scene.” (As wtih “Oklahoma Smokeshow,” he changed the location in the title to “California,” so that the cutoff Lakers jersey he was wearing wasn’t the only sop to local culture.) That’s more than he played from a forthcoming album last year, when he didn’t preview any of the songs from “Zach Bryan” even though that album release was days away at the time. It’s unclear when “Great American Bar Scene” might be coming out: In a recent tweet, Bryan made it sound as if he might imminently, spontaneously release it, but on stage, he said only that the album is forthcoming “this year,” which leaves a lot of wiggle room. Whenever he does opt to drop it, it could be the album to finally dislodge Taylor Swift from the top spot; there probably aren’t enough variants in the world to keep Bryan from taking an appointed spot at No. 1. But with a shortage of live previews, fans will have to keep guessing whether the album will be as interior as the self-titled effort or as anthemic as “American Heartbreak.”

The presence of the husband-and-wife duo the War and Treaty as a galvanizing opening act of course bid well for a sure highlight in the headliner’s set: a revival of Bryan’s duet with Michael Trotter on “Hey Driver,” possibly the best song off last year’s self-titled album. Bryan apologized for all the “shitty” versions he and his band had done of the song on tour to date without the Trotters, before launching into a new vocal arrangement that, unlike the record, made room for Michael’s wife Tanya, and three-part harmony instead of two-. An additional, humble solution on Bryan’s part was just to hand over to Tanya some of the lead vocal lines he handled in the studio. The War and Treaty have been doing their own cover of the song out on tour (including two performances at Stagecoach), but getting to hear this blend of voices was a treat you’d wish could be handed down to all the audiences along Bryan’s tour routing this year, and not just a selected few.

Bryan and his band made their way backstage through a path cut through the audience, then returned through the same open tunnel, bringing in tow some of the backstage VIPs — Tate McRae, Casey Affleck and various local sports figures among them — for the traditional jump-around “all-night revival” finale to his show. It’s a churchy way to go out, but after a lot of down-and-out sketches dressed up as rabble-rousers throughout the preceding two hours, it didn’t hurt to finally revert to some pure, star-studded Pentecostalism at quitting time.
