14 Best Senior-friendly Travel Groups

These senior-friendly travel companies offer tours and travel experiences as diverse as their clients.

travel companies for over 50

The benefits of travel, whether it's a refreshing weekend getaway or a month-long trip to a new destination, are undeniable. And for retirees and seniors who have time and a travel budget, the opportunities are nearly endless — their own city, state, country, and even the whole world are all waiting to be explored.

It should be recognized that seniors are as diverse as any other generation, perhaps even more so as their years of experience have taken them in many directions. While their interests, abilities, values, and habits may vary, it can safely be said that for many, travel is in their plans.

Seniors travel to visit family, learn about the countries of their ancestors , or explore new destinations. Many seek immersive experiences, educational opportunities, or adventure. And travel companies are responding to their needs and wishes by offering tour options ranging from independent to fully guided, budget to luxury, and group to individual. The 14 organizations listed below are either aimed specifically at mature clients or feature experiences that are flexible enough to accommodate a variety of travelers.

Walking the World

Operating out of Grand Junction, Colorado, Walking the World offers walking and hiking tours mainly for travelers over the age of 50 who want to be immersed in the destinations they choose. Experienced hikers will enjoy its Rocky Mountain National Park tour , for example, with treks of up to 10 miles on some days during the eight-day itinerary. Meanwhile, the Ireland trip covers 11 days of exploring fishing villages, rolling green hills, the stunning Cliffs of Moher, the Dingle Peninsula, and Killarney National Park. Daily walks range from four to eight miles and are described as gentle to moderate.

Road Scholar

Originally launched as Elderhostel in 1975, the company rebranded in 2010 as Road Scholar , recognizing the values and interests of lifelong learners who have participated in their lectures, tours, field trips, and educational experiences over the years. Participants are typically over the age of 50 and ready to learn from travel or focus on a specific interest. Trip themes such as grandparent adventures (special types of trips you can take with your grandchild), cruises, urban exploration, art and history, historical sites, and academic topics can be browsed by destination, activity level, and interest to help clients select their ideal tour experience.

Adventures Abroad

While Adventures Abroad largely caters to travelers over 50, tours are open to adults of all ages, and operate on every continent except for Antarctica. The company's "soft adventure" trips, which concentrate on the culture and history of a destination, don't include strenuous activities, though a reasonable degree of fitness and the ability to walk are required. Trips are rated from one to three based on physical activity, with the first level featuring only leisurely walks and level two meaning more time on your feet each day. Level-three trips might include walks or hikes on uneven ground for three to seven hours, though at a leisurely pace. Specific trips are suggested for each activity level for easy planning.

An adventure travel company designed for people ages 50 and over, ElderTreks offers small-group adventures — think wildlife safaris, hiking trips, cultural journeys, and other unique expeditions — in more than 100 countries. The tours are rated by activity level, ranging from one to five. At level one, travelers should be able to walk for one to two hours, whereas at level five, they'll need to be capable of hiking for eight to 10 hours.

Senior Cycling

Specializing in bicycle tours for active adults ages 50 and up, Senior Cycling limits groups to a maximum of 13 participants. And they are always accompanied by the "sag wagon" in case someone needs a break from riding. Trips are rated at two levels: intermediate (for the occasional rider who prefers bike paths and flat terrain for 20–40 miles per day) and advanced (for those who are at ease with up to 50 miles per day, hills, and traffic). Custom tours can also be arranged for families or groups of friends.

Firebird Tours

With a focus on clients ages 50 and over, Firebird Tours offers small group trips to destinations in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East that deliver value, comfort, and quality. Themes for guided tours include gastronomy, history, architecture, and the Northern Lights , as well as theater and opera. Private family tours are also available, with destinations and activities suitable for a wider age range depending on the group.

Seniors interested in active vacations should check out Backroads , based out of Berkeley, California. While tours are open to all ages, the majority of participants tend to be over 50. Guided biking, walking, and hiking tours to a variety of destinations are geared toward adults, but also include options for families traveling with "teens and kids," "older teens and 20s," and those in their "20s and beyond." The company's Dolce Tempo tours offer a more relaxed pace, and include trips such as the Easygoing E-bike Tour in California wine country and the Easygoing Multi-adventure Tour in New Zealand.

Overseas Adventure Travel

With a variety of trips available to destinations on every continent, Overseas Adventure Travel makes a great choice if you're interested in seeing the world via small-ship cruises. In addition to guided land tours for groups of eight to 16, OAT offers sailings through the Norwegian Fjords, along West Africa's coast, and throughout the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas. Mature travelers are often attracted to the flexibility of the trips and the ability to personalize activities. Recognizing that many of their customers travel alone — including a whopping 85 percent of their female clients — the company has created its getaways with solo travelers in mind, whether they're first-timers or experienced adventurers.

EF Go Ahead Tours

Operating out of Cambridge, Massachusetts, EF Go Ahead Tours offers a selection of small group tours for 10 to 22 guests. The senior-friendly trips focus on interests such as food and wine, adventure, and safaris, as well as specific destinations and seasonal events (think Oktoberfest in Germany, annual holiday markets in Europe, or St. Patrick's Day in Ireland). Traveling alone? The company's solo tours provide private rooms and personalized experiences especially geared toward those traveling by themselves. Clients can also gather their own group and take advantage of the services of EF's professional coordinators.

Kensington Tours

If you're looking to create a fully customized, privately guided trip based on your group's specific needs and travel preferences, look no further than Kensington Tours . Their expertise in more than 100 destinations worldwide makes planning easy, whether the goal is a culturally immersive experience, enjoying fine wine and dining, discovering the history of a place, or relaxation. While these arrangements are ideal for mature travelers who appreciate ease and luxury, the company also provides experiences for multigenerational travel in countries like Thailand, Japan, Iceland, and South Africa, featuring kid-friendly trips that come with private vehicles, local guides, and dining options fit for the whole family.

Intrepid Travel

A leading adventure tour operator known for its efforts to make travel accessible to all, Intrepid Travel offers a good mix of bespoke and ready-made itinerary options that can be adapted to suit your group's comfort level. Intrepid's Accessible Tours are especially inclusive, with trips that are designed for every type of traveler. Whichever trip you decide to book, you'll have access to local destination specialists to help you choose the perfect places to stay as well as organize transportation, activities, and guided tours, depending on your needs. The company's Walking & Trekking trips, suitable for a range of fitness levels, are especially popular with seniors, though adults of all ages are free to join in.

YMT Vacations

In business since 1967, YMT Vacations designs all-inclusive trips with mature travelers in mind. Prices cover hotel accommodations, guided sightseeing tours, baggage handling, and the expertise of tour directors and driver guides. Destinations include Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, North America, Central and South America, Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, among others, and the company arranges travel for popular events such as the Rose Parade in California. A number of river cruise and transatlantic sailing options are also available.

Grand European Travel

Grand European Travel is an AARP-preferred travel provider (check the website for members-only discounts) that promotes itself as a one-stop shop to help clients plan their desired travel experiences. The company represents a collection of 30 travel brands — including the likes of Trafalgar and Insight Tours — which, altogether, cover seven continents. Offerings range from budget to luxury getaways, and everything from cruises to land tours. Thinking of taking a multigenerational trip? Browse the company's family experiences section, stocked with tours fit for all ages, whether you're into all-inclusive European river cruises or exploring U.S. national parks.

Country Walkers

Country Walkers aims to introduce travelers to new landscapes and cultures around the world by traveling on foot. Established in 1979, the Vermont-based operator offers walking tours in Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, and South America. Tour types include guided (in a small group of up to 18) and self-guided (in a private group of up to 12), providing a great option for independent exploration. Travelers can choose from five levels, starting at "easy walking," which includes a daily distance of two to six miles for up to four hours per day. "Moderate walking," the mid-range option, suggests four to 10 miles and up to six hours of walking per day. Trips at the "challenging walking" level might go up to seven hours a day on foot, covering anywhere from six to 14 miles. Guests of all ages should be able to find a destination and tour that's best suited for their interests and fitness level.

FEATURED TRIPS

Philippines.

New Tour Date Added!

The Philippines is an archipelago of over 7,000 islands, in southeastern Asia between the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Its extensive coastline are dotted with white sand beaches and turquoise blue waters that are teeming with marine life, corals and lush foliage.

For 2 nights we'll enjoy the 'castaway camping experience' on a pristine island where we sleep under the stars in our individual mesh tents. Our trip concludes in the paradise of Busuanga, with its white-sand beaches, coral reefs, dense rainforests, mangrove swamps and the crystal-clear lakes.  ElderTreks 28-day tour of the Philippines offers perhaps the most in-depth experience of this incredibly beautiful, exotic and diverse country.  Click here   for more information!

Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Annapurna, Lhotse - these names have captured the imagination of adventurers for over a century. Nepal may be known for having the planet's highest peaks but it is also graced with beautiful terraced hillsides, raging rivers, and vibrant green lowland jungles. These extraordinary natural features are complemented by the gracious welcome of the people of this Himalayan kingdom. Our adventure highlights the cultural and natural features of Nepal. Marvel at Durbar Square with its 1000-year old wooden buildings and take in the burning ghats at Pashupatinath. Explore Kathmandu's smaller, more intimate sister city, Patan, and walk through the ancient streets of the restored capital of Bhaktapur. Visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha and enjoy a unique 2-day experience staying at a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Dhulikhel, where you can eat and even meditate with the monks.  Click here  for more information!

Papua New Guinea

travel companies for over 50

Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally interesting places on Earth, with many of its tribal people following a traditional lifestyle. This adventure has been designed to experience the villages and people of Papua New Guinea. In order to do this, we visit a number of local villages and we have 2 overnights in one village. There are overnight stays where the accommodation is very basic; it can be dormitory style and have no fans/air conditioning and very limited facilities. As much of the interior of the country has no roads or impassable ones, we maximize our time by flying from location to location and flight schedules frequently change. While we endeavor to do/see everything listed in the itinerary, it is common for changes to occur to the itinerary for things that are beyond our control. Traveler must be prepared for changes to this program, either before your journey starts or during the trip itself.   Click here  for more information!

Kingdoms of Southern Africa

Superb game viewing, fascinating tribal cultures, stunning scenery and visits to three southern African countries make this journey a truly unique adventure. Learn about the Swazi, Zulu and Basotho tribes. Travel through South Africa and the Kingdoms of Swaziland and Lesotho. Enjoy South Africa's most famous national parks teaming with wildlife. Beginning in Hartbeespoort, we visit the De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Center before traveling to world-famous Kruger National Park in search of the "Big Five" - lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinos. Our three-country journey concludes in stunning Cape Town, the perfect place to raise a glass of South African wine with a toast to this superb adventure.  Click here  for more information!

Adriatic Adventure

Journey to one of the most diverse regions of Europe - Croatia and Slovenia. Our adventure begins in Dubrovnik, Croatia. We will visit seaside towns with roots from the Middle Ages, and even as far back as Roman times. Relive history during the walk along the medieval walls of Dubrovnik, a fascinating and fabled city also known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic", and enjoy the magnificent landscape, culture, cuisine and hospitality of the locals.  Our trip to the Adriatic Coast, Bosnia and Montenegro is a relaxing blend of walks and hikes to natural wonders and historic sites. Journey with us to the least crowded, and perhaps the most impressive, seacoasts of Europe  Click here  for more information!

Albania, Macedonia & Bulgaria

Welcome to Old Europe - remote, unexploited and unspoiled. With cobblestone streets, Roman ruins, cosmopolitan cities, quaint towns, medieval monasteries and castles, UNESCO sites and pristine nature.  Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania are easily some of Europe's last, mostly unexplored gems. We also visit Kosovo, the youngest country of Europe, and Corfu (Greece).  After exploring the 5,000 year old cosmopolitan capital city Sofia, with its wide boulevards and grand churches, we travel to the city of Plovdiv, one of Europe's oldest cities. Visit Asenovgrad Castle, a medieval fortress in the Bulgarian Rhodope Mountains. Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania offer the perfect off-the-beaten track adventure in seldom traveled Eastern Europe.   Click here  for more information!

Some may wonder what the best age to travel is – we think all of them

The best thing about travel is it’s not a one-and-done. You can see the same sights at 18 and 58 but in completely different ways. Maybe the last time you traveled you did it all on your own – a mighty effort, but with a small group tour you can ease up and hand the reins to a local leader who knows their destination inside out. With transport, logistics and day-to-day titbits all taken care of, you can get the most out of your trip. Whatever your ideal trip looks like – whether it’s a wildlife trek through Alaska's Denali National Park , an unforgettable cruise down the Nile , or sipping margaritas with new amigos in Mexico – your next adventure is waiting for you.

Do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join an intrepid trip as a senior.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travelers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises). However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travelers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Who are Intrepid travelers?

Intrepid adventures are for travelers with a yearning to get off the beaten track. Whether you're traveling solo, with a group of friends, or are aged 18 or 70, there is an Intrepid adventure to suit your interests and comfort level. Each Intrepid adventure has a physical and cultural grading to help you decide if the trip is right for you. No special skills are required for most adventures, just a sense of adventure and a curiosity about the world. Even on our camping adventures no previous experience is required; our tents are easy to set up, even for first-time campers.

Are there age restrictions on your trips?

For the majority of our trips the minimum age is 15. An adult must accompany all children under the age of 18. Our Overland Adventures have a minimum age of 18. Younger children can join us on our Family trips and Short Break Adventures, but check each trip for its minimum age, which is located on the trip’s overview page on the website. Most of our trips don’t have a maximum age limit, but a Self-Assessment Form is required for all passengers 70 years and over.

How many people will be on my trip?

Good things come in small packages, which is why we keep our group sizes down. This means we’re small enough to remain flexible as we thread our way through communities without intimidating the locals. On most of our trips you’ll be part of an intimate group of 12-16 people, though our group sizes are on average 10 people. Our Overland trips are in purpose-built vehicles that can carry up to 24 travelers. Group sizes are displayed on each trip’s overview page on our website.

I’m travelling alone – is that OK?

This is the beauty of the Intrepid style of travel: many of our travelers join because they are traveling solo and want to meet and share experiences with like-minded people.

Learn more about solo travel

I have a disability – can I join an Intrepid trip?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. We ask that you carefully consider whether you are physically and mentally able to complete the itinerary you have chosen, recognizing that on many trips you will be required to carry your own bags and use public transport.

Where we can we will make reasonable adjustments to the operation of our trips to facilitate the requirements of disabled travelers – such as booking ground floor accommodation, or having our leaders communicate important directions in writing as well as verbally. Many travelers with disabilities have been able to enjoy our trips by traveling with a friend or companion who can assist with specific needs. If joining a group trip is not practical we may be able to provide you with a private departure. Please contact our sales team for further information on any of our itineraries.

Do I need to buy travel insurance?

Travel insurance is compulsory on all our trips if you’re traveling internationally. Minimum coverage may differ from trip to trip, so make sure you check the Travel Insurance section in your Essential Trip Information. You will not be permitted to join the group until your leader has sighted your insurance policy number and the insurance company's 24-hour emergency contact number – it’s really important there are no barriers to getting emergency assistance for you.

Will I have my own room?

It's your call. Rooming on our trips is organized on a twin-share basis, but most of our trips also have the option to pay an extra fee for your own room. Just let us know at the time of booking and we'll arrange it for you.

For twin-share rooms, we pair up solo travelers with another traveler of the same gender as per the gender marker on each of their passports. As a responsible tour operator, we strive to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. In the case that your gender identity differs from what's indicated on your passport, please contact us so that we can discuss rooming options with you.

On a small selection of itineraries some accommodations are booked on an open-gender, multi-share basis. In those instances it will clearly be stated in your Essential Trip Information.

How does group time work?

Whether you’re traveling alone or with a partner, our trips have a set itinerary. But within that there’s time set aside for your own exploration (if you want to – no pressure). Depending on how you're feeling, you may want to have some downtime, ask your guide for a few tips then head out alone, or hang out with the group and see where the day takes you.

What makes a small group tour better than a coach tour?

The main difference between a small group tour and a coach tour is the size of the group; our tours have 10 travelers each (on average) while coaches can hold up to 60 people. This means that you'll never have to vie for your leader's attention on a small group tour because you'll automatically have it.

How Do You Choose the Right Travel Company

Choosing a travel company can be overwhelming, as there are many options available. Here are some tips on how to choose a travel company that will meet your needs.

Determine What Type of Travel You Want

Before choosing a travel company, think about the type of travel you are interested in. Do you want a relaxing beach vacation, a cultural immersion trip, or an adventurous trek? Once you know what you want, look for websites that specialize in that type of travel. Check their itineraries, pricing, and trip inclusions to make sure they align with your preferences and budget.

Research Their Reputation

Do some research to find out if the company has a good reputation. Read reviews from other travelers, check their social media presence, and look for any news articles or reviews about the website.

Consider the Company’s Values

If you are interested in responsible tourism and sustainable travel, look for websites that prioritize these values. Check if the company works with local partners who share their values, or if they have any sustainable tourism certifications.

Check the Customer Support Policies

Look for companies that offer customer support, such as a phone number or email address on their website. Check if they have a customer service team that can help with any questions or concerns you may have before, during, or after your trip.

By considering these factors, you can choose a travel company that meets your needs and helps you plan the trip of a lifetime.

What people love about USA Tours for Seniors

Most Amazing Family Vacation Ever! The 7-day private tour of the Southwest National Parks (hotel version) Hard to put into words but this was the perfect way for our family to experience the dramatic sites and cultural experiences of the southwest National Parks! We had the most amazing tour guide (Thanks Marie!) and the agenda was the right balance of keeping us engaged while covering so much ground. Each National Park had its own unique and wonderful qualities and this 7-day tour gave us just enough time to soak up the natural beauty. Also, there are hikes and tours for all ages (we let the boys take on the more difficult hikes while Mom and Dad took the more accessible routes. The pick up and drop off in Las Vegas was very convenient and allowed us just enough time to enjoy a few nights in Las Vegas. Would HIGHLY recommend!
The 7-day Southwest Highlights tour was amazing! Alex and Amber were terrific guides that helped to give us options to make the most of our time at each tour stop. They also took care of setting up camp most days and prepared great meals throughout the trip. The trip was well organized, and we stopped often during the drive. I recommend this tour to people who want an active vacation, checking a number of National Parks off their list, but don't want to do all of the research needed to make it happen.
Excellent tour of the Mighty 5 in Utah. Our guide Robin was knowledgeable and accommodating throughout the tour. Just enough time was allocated for hiking the trails, viewing the sites in the distance and even visiting the Visitor Centers in each park. Hotel/motel accommodations were good and chosen for access to restaurants. Lunch stops with corresponding places to eat were well planned and the food and service was good. We thoroughly enjoyed our time.

Turning 50 is a golden milestone. Your passion for traveling has allowed you to see so much of the world, yet you still thirst for more.

travel companies for over 50

Expanding your traveling horizons in your older years often requires more foresight, so you can plan an itinerary to soak in and savor every moment.

Tour companies catering to travelers 50+ will help you plan your next adventure and perhaps subsequent getaways.

These companies don’t treat you like a senior (you’re 50 years young, after all!) but understand the travel challenges and desires and will work with you to craft your dream expedition.

Here are 9 of your best options.

1. Luxury Gold

travel companies for over 50

Usher in what’s referred to as “the new golden age of travel” through Luxury Gold.

You’ve roughed it on trips and adventures for years, and now it’s time to travel in style. As a name like Luxury Gold calls to mind, this is a luxury travel company catered toward small groups of no more than 20.

Luxury Gold will ensure every moment of your vacation is a pinch-me-I’m-dreaming moment, from stays in premier lodgings in some of the most world-renowned destinations, tantalizingly delicious dining, and concierge-led travel experiences.

The immersion accommodations include some of the most beloved luxury hotels in the world. You’ll feel like royalty staying at The Leela Palace in Udaipur, India.

The lake views from your window at the Hotel D’Angleterre in Geneva, Switzerland will rejuvenate your soul.

You can even get a room in hard-to-stay locales like The Ritz-Carlton in New Orleans or the JW Marriott Hotel Lima in Miraflores Lima, Peru.

Where would you like to visit? Luxury Gold has five-star vacation experiences in Africa, Egypt, Asia, New Zealand, Australia, Europe, Latin America, Canada, and the United States.

The curated experiences are one of the top reasons to seek this company’s services. How else can you take a tour of the Tower of London after-hours, discover pyramids in Giza with an Egyptologist, meet an Austrian princess in Artstetten, or dine with a rugby player in Auckland?

These Founder’s Collection experiences were an idea of the late founder, Stanley Tollman, and live on to this day.

2. Tauck Tours

travel companies for over 50

Tauck understands your roving heart, as its company is founded by travelers like you. Family-owned and operated, Tauck Tours has led some of the most immersive, remarkable tour experiences for almost 100 years.

Another way to travel the seas in style is on a small ship. Immerse yourself in the culture of Iceland, the Galapagos Islands, Peru, Toronto, Chicago, and more as you tour for seven to 14 days, sometimes more.

Some tours are themed, like the Galapagos: Wildlife Wonderland tour. Across eight days, you’ll explore Guayaquil, Quito, Bartolome Island, Genovesa Island, Santa Cruz, and Rabida Island.

Not so fond of traveling by boat? You can also take a land tour through Tauck to premium destinations like the Americas, Australia, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Life beyond 50+ is so exciting, especially when you are with like-minded young people and want to enjoy life like kid. This is how I would like to summarize 50+ Voyagers. My mom for the first time travelled alone with a group of strangers but she came back with lifelong friends and memories to cherish. I am so glad that I could facilitate creating this memory for her during recent Ladakh trip. Very well organised, all thanks to Sangita who personally took care of everyone on the trip. Pictures of this event are saying a lot more. How I wish I was 50+ too ! Looking forward to creating more memories for my mom with you.

The life starts at 50 is what I fully endorse after joining Ladakh trip 3rd-11th August 2016. Every person has a child within, let it come out and there can be no better way than joining 50+ Voyagers Travel and Adventure Club. I was a bit skeptical and apprehensive of joining it but now I think it has been my one of the best decisions to be a part of it. The itinerary was properly planned right from the flights to hotels to sightseeing. Everything was hassle free. In a nut shell it was adventurous, amazing and awesome experience. Thank you Sangita for making me feel younger and healthier.

Due to the age factor (78+), going alone anywhere gives me a little scare. When I came to know about 50+ Voyagers and booked Coorg tour with them, I was in the beginning skeptical how the services would be. However, when the day arrived to commence the 3 days holidays, everything from pick up from my house till they dropped me back at home - went off in the most pleasant and smooth manner. The accommodation was the best one could imagine nice cottages among a 250 acres of coffee estate, where nature showed its splendor. I would say that 50+ Voyagers is the ideal organization to look for those who have crossed 50. The service rendered by them is superb. I am looking forward to my next holiday with 50+ Voyagers.

At the outset, my wife (aged 66 with knee problem) and I (70 years) were apprehensive as to whether we would be able to undertake the Himachal Pradesh tour given mountainous and hilly area conditions. Well after horse-riding at Kufri, I could see from expressions on the face of my wife that she had got her confidence back and had almost forgotten her knee pain. Advantage of travelling with 50+ Voyagers is that all are of almost same age, group being almost on same wave length, customized visiting places, cohesiveness and careful planning. I recommend to my friends of above fifty to avail themselves of the facilities provided by the 50+ Plus Voyagers Travel and Adventure Club. I am sure you will agree that age is just a number.

3 Cheers 50+ Voyagers for arranging this wonderful tour to Kenya. One of the most amazing, satisfying and enjoyed tours to Kenya. Did not realise how one week just flew. Still living in the world of the wild animals and keep looking at all the pictures. Though it was a very rough terrain with no roads we did not feel it then. Was it the company we were in or just being amongst nature ? It was worth it and would love to take more tours with them. Going to Nagaland Hornbill Festival with 50+ Voyagers in December. Hats off to 50+ Voyagers Travel and Adventure Club for catering to us 60+

It was my 5th trip with 50+ Voyagers, when I went on a 8 day trip to Sri Lanka ! My first international! Everything was taken care well - My safety being a single lady, the company that I want, to share my views and experiences while travelling together with like minded, same aged men and women who are relaxed with no hassles of not getting leave from work place, and with relaxed mindset to enjoy life after finishing duties towards children.. what more you want? In the last trip to Srilanka, I found myself climbing 1700 steps to top of lion rock fort at 200ft height which I thought was unbelievable!

Chris Santore’s company, Garden State Fireworks, puts on hundreds of displays every year, but nothing comes close to what happens in D.C. for the Fourth of July.

“It’s definitely the Super Bowl of fireworks,” said Santore. “This is the one that we most look forward to all year long.”

The show, which is just over 17 minutes long, includes about $280,000 worth of fireworks.

Several hundred mortars are lined up on both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

They are locked and loaded and ready to go.

“It’s a big jumble of emotions,” Santore explained. “There’s butterflies, there’s nerves, there’s goose bumps, there’s pride and there’s excitement.”

The display is controlled by computers, but Santore is still the person who presses the “launch” button.

Even though his company has put on the iconic D.C. July Fourth fireworks show for 11 years in a row now, Santore said it is still a rush, celebrating the nation’s birthday in the nation’s capital.

“There’s a big deep breath seconds before that first shell launches, and then we’re in and we’re rolling and it’s time to focus on having a perfect show,” said Santore.

The display begins Thursday at 9:09 p.m.

How To Get Compensation From Delta For Flight Delays

How To Get Compensation From Delta For Flight Delays

Table of Contents

Understanding delta’s flight delay policy, applying delta’s policy when your flight is delayed, bottom line.

If you travel frequently, you’ll occasionally receive one of those cortisol-inducing notifications from airlines about flight delays. Often, such delays prove only mildly inconvenient—nothing more than an extra hour or two in the airport. Other times, however, flight delays can last 24 hours or more, precipitating not just headaches but unexpected costs like meals, Ubers and lodging. If you’re delayed for more than three hours on a Delta flight and it’s the airline’s fault, you should seek reimbursement for any unexpected costs incurred. Additionally, Delta may offer freebies like SkyMiles, gift cards or future travel vouchers to take a bit of the sting out of the ordeal.

While the U.S. Department of Transportation does not require airlines to offer compensation for flight delays, airlines do have policies in place for compensating customers when these irritating mishaps occur. Airlines determine compensation for flight delays on a case-by-case basis. But as a rule of thumb, only expect compensation when the delay is the airline’s fault and lasts longer than three hours. If the delay arises from inclement weather, issues at the airport,or other circumstances outside the airline’s control, you won’t be eligible for compensation. However, if severe delays stem from mechanical failure, flight overbooking or something else the airline bungled, expect something for your trouble.

Delta Air Lines is relatively accommodating when it comes to compensating customers for delayed flights. Like other airlines, Delta determines compensation on a case-by-case basis, but below we outline what to expect from Delta when you encounter flight delays and steps to receive the compensation you deserve.

Delta promises to notify travelers within 30 minutes after a flight is confirmed as delayed. Notifications appear on flight information display screens at the airport, but the Delta app is the quickest way to stay informed about flight delays. It’s always wise to check the app as you’re preparing to leave for the airport. If you input your cell phone number or email while completing online check-in, Delta will notify you about flight delays via these media as well.

If seats are available on same-day flights to your destination, Delta will automatically rebook you. As with delayed flight notifications, the Delta app will apprise you of automatic rebooking. If you’re flying a high-demand route with flights departing every hour or so—say, New York to Chicago or San Francisco to Los Angeles—the extra wait time could be short. Unfortunately, Delta often overbooks these popular flights, and gate agents can’t inform you about clearing standby until shortly before take-off. This means you may find yourself waiting on standby for several flights before scoring a seat. If same-day Delta flights are unavailable to your destination, Delta may reroute you on another airline. Thankfully, if you have to change airlines, you won’t incur any additional costs. Note: If you do clear the standby list for a later flight the same day, Delta will try to ensure any checked baggage arrives at the same time you do.

If you receive a delayed flight notification but are not rebooked automatically, you may be looking at a prolonged delay. At this point, contact a Delta agent to inquire whether the delay is Delta’s fault or from something outside the airline’s control. Check FlightAware.com’s aptly named MiseryMap to see if other airlines at your airport are likewise delayed—a reliable indication of weather-related problems.

To speak with a Delta agent, you have several options: the chat feature on the app, Delta’s customer service number or a Delta customer service desk at the airport. Whichever route you choose, try to speak with a supervisor. Supervisors, more so than standard agents, have power to offer compensation like SkyMiles , future travel vouchers and meal vouchers. Importantly, remind yourself to stay cool-headed when your turn arises to speak with a Delta representative. While few travails challenge intestinal fortitude like getting stuck at the airport, conversations are more productive when all parties are thinking clearly.

At this point, also make sure to safekeep ticket stubs, bag tags and any other paperwork related to the flight. If you end up incurring expenses for transportation, lodging and meals, save physical copies or photos of receipts as well. You may be able to submit these expenses for reimbursement later, but you will need to have the necessary paperwork.

If you expect to be waylaid until the next day, inquire with a Delta agent about lodging and transportation vouchers. If delays are Delta’s fault, the airline lodges customers in contracted facilities, usually a hotel close to the airport. Additionally, Delta offers meal and transportation vouchers in such cases. Occasionally, Delta-contracted hotels run out of room, but in these cases, Delta offers alternate hotel and transportation vouchers. Noted earlier but worth reiterating: save hardcopies or photos of all receipts for hotels, transportation or meal expenses incurred from the delay. If you encounter costs not covered by vouchers, submit a complaint on Delta.com after reaching your destination. If you’re eligible for reimbursement, Delta will ask for receipts.

While you can contact a Delta agent over the phone or at the airport, Detla.com is the easiest way to seek compensation and reimbursement. On Delta’s landing page, scroll to the bottom of the page and under “customer service” click on “comment/complaint.”

travel companies for over 50

The form will ask you for your contact information, Delta frequent flyer number and a description of your complaint. Provide as much detail as possible about the delay and resultant expenses, and Delta will contact you within 30 days to acknowledge the complaint’s receipt. Delta promises to send you a response to your complaint within 60 days.

If Delta successfully rebooks you on a flight within three hours or the delays are outside the airline’s control, don’t expect compensation. However, if the delays are Delta’s fault and last more than three hours, you should receive reimbursement for delay-related costs. If you find yourself saddled with expenses from hotels, meals and transportation, make sure to save all receipts—chances are you can submit them for reimbursement. The sooner you contact a Delta representative or file a complaint on Detla.com, the better your odds for receiving compensation. It never hurts to push for bonus SkyMiles as well—as an additional mea culpa, Delta may offer some.

Lastly, purchasing travel insurance or using a rewards card with travel insurance can mitigate the misery wrought by flight delays. If you purchase travel insurance, you can file a claim for reimbursement for hotel expenses, meals and other costs associated with unexpected overnight stays. Some premium travel cards, like Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or The Platinum Card® from American Express ¹ (Terms apply), automatically include travel insurance when you purchase flights with them. For example, if you purchase a flight with the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase will automatically reimburse you for delay-related costs up to $500 per ticket.

While prolonged flight delays are among travel’s most infuriating curveballs, you do have some recourse with Delta in many cases. When the delays are Delta’s fault, know you are eligible for expense reimbursement, food, lodging and maybe even extra SkyMiles or future travel vouchers.

Election latest: Countdown begins to polls opening

Polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm. Scroll down to read how to follow Sky's election night coverage.

Wednesday 3 July 2024 23:25, UK

  • General Election 2024

Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player

  • Countdown is on until polls open
  • Polling station will be open from 7am until 10pm
  • How to watch election night coverage on Sky News

Thank you for joining us in the Politics Hub for live coverage of the final day of the general election campaign.

It was back on a rainy Wednesday 22 May in Westminster that Rishi Sunak walked out onto Downing Street to announce the date of the general election, and the date that voters would decide the future of the country.

Tomorrow is that day - polls will open at 7am, close at 10pm.

You will see almost no political coverage from Sky News tomorrow - strict rules prevent us from any coverage that could impact the way people vote.

But we will have coverage here in the Politics Hub of the party leaders casting their ballots - and of dogs at polling stations, of course!

At 9pm tomorrow , chief presenter Kay Burley will anchor Election Night Live, the overnight results programme, from a 360-degree immersive studio normally used by Sky Sports shows like Monday Night Football, alongside our expert team.

And as soon as the polls close at 10pm , Sky News will bring you the exit poll - your first insight into how the general election results could play out, and live coverage of the results throughout the night.

So do join us tomorrow for what is set to be a historic general election - and don't forget to vote (and bring ID!).

The exit poll is the first big moment of the night - the moment millions tune in for a first indication of the eventual result of the general election.

Commissioned by the broadcasters - Sky News, the BBC and ITV News - the fieldwork is carried out by Ipsos UK who will have interviewers at 133 polling stations around the country this year.

People who have just voted will be asked to privately fill in a replica ballot paper and place it into a ballot box as they leave their local community centre, church hall or station.

Researchers can only deploy to a fraction of the total constituencies in England, Scotland and Wales, so locations are chosen to best reflect the demographics of the country with an urban and rural spread.

However, many of the locations will be in marginal seats, where the swing between the main parties will be tracked.

The same polling stations are targeted year after year so the swing from the last election's exit poll, along with other data at constituency level, can be analysed by those crunching the numbers.

The data collected at the polling stations is sent back by interviewers to Ipsos UK at several stages throughout the day.

It's processed there and sent via a secure data pipeline to the broadcasters' statisticians and political scientists who are locked down in a secret location in the capital.

Electoral rules mean that no polling can be reported while people are voting - Sky News and the other broadcasters will cover it in full from 10pm.

Election coverage begins on Sky News from 9pm, and it is free, wherever you get your news.  Here is how to watch and follow live .

After weeks of campaigning, polls are due to open very soon and voters across the nation will have their say.

Here are the key timings of the day:

7am Thursday : Polls will open across the United Kingdom.

9pm : Sky News’ Election Night Live programme starts ( click here for details on how to watch ).

10pm : Polls will close and counting will begin.

10pm : Broadcasters’ exit poll will be published, giving the first indication of the election.

Around 11.30pm : First seats will be declared.

Around 4.30am Friday : We will likely know for certain who will form the next government.

7am : Sophy Ridge and Sam Coates broadcast the fallout from the election live on Sky News.

Blockbuster polling from YouGov is forecasting Labour to score the biggest electoral win since 1832 - read more on that here .

This was a significant date in the history of UK democracy.

The vote in 1832 came after the introduction of the Great Reform Act - the legislation that paved the way for the currently used system of constituencies represented by MPs.

Previously, MPs represented boroughs or counties - the boundaries of which could date back hundreds of years.

This led to the phenomena of rotten boroughs - areas where no one lived any more but still had the right to send MPs to Westminster.

The most famous of these is perhaps Old Sarum, near Salisbury, which sent two MPs voted for by around 11 people - effectively decided by the landowners.

And growing cities like Birmingham and Manchester had no MPs.

It was also not uncommon for rich landowners to control other counties and boroughs, as voting was done publicly.

After much debate, the Whig party - the forerunner to the Liberals - managed to introduce the Great Reform Act, which overwrote this system.

It wasn't completely modern, with women not able to vote, but it did extend the franchise slightly past what it used to be.

A total of 86 boroughs were removed, and 31 were reduced to sending one MP.

Some 67 constituencies were created, with areas like Manchester, Birmingham, and Leeds getting representation for the first time.

It was brought in against a background of public calls to reform the political system, and people wanting to remove parliament from the influence of rich landowners.

The Whigs had won a majority in the Commons in 1831 to introduce the changes - but had been blocked by Tories in the Lords until they finally managed to push it through with the help of King William IV.

So it is no surprise the party which introduced the reform won a huge majority against those who opposed it.

This is why it is notable that Sir Keir Starmer is forecast to get close to matching the majority of 224 won in the election called after the Great Reform Act in 1832.

We've just heard from our political editor Beth Rigby , who delivered her last live analysis of the general election campaign.

Standing where it all began, six weeks ago in Downing Street, Beth said that "what is almost certain is that Keir Starmer will walk through that door as Britain's prime minister" by the time the votes are counted.

"That outcome is almost completely assured," she said.

She said that if it comes to pass, it would be a "stupendous victory" after suffering in 2019 its worst defeat since 1935,

"People thought Labour might be locked out of power for a decade - Sir Keir Starmer himself said he had a mountain to climb to bring Labour back.

"Well, tonight he stands on the cusp of becoming only the fourth ever Labour leader to win from opposition.

"The last man who did that - you will probably know it - is Tony Blair in 1997."

Beth went on to say that although the Labour leader appears on course for a big majority, how big it will be "is difficult to say" as there are "dozens of marginal seats still in the toss up".

Nonetheless, she said, "the evidence suggests it's going to be better than Boris Johnson's majority 80-seat majority in 2019 - and could go much further than that".

"After four election defeats on the bounce, this is going to feel transformative for Labour, and for the country too."

But she also warned that there "could be dozens of seats which are won by small margins and low vote shares".

"Starmer’s support might be broad, but very shallow too.

"That’s why in the campaign, you've heard Starmer talking about leading humbly, putting government back into the service of working people and putting country before party.

"Because he knows all too well that the victory could great, but the inheritance is hard, and the honeymoon with the British people could be very short indeed.

"Tomorrow then momentous, as will Friday - but only the end of the beginning for a Labour Party, perhaps into government, with a new mountain to climb."

Nigel Farage has admitted it would be a "big step back" if he doesn't win the contest in Clacton at the election.

The Reform UK leader is hoping to win his first seat in parliament and has previously said he is playing the long game, with his sights set on the next election in five years' time.

But he had conceded to needing to have a rethink if he misses out.

Asked if he would resign, he said: "I shall go for a drink and think about it."

According to YouGov's final MRP poll, Reform UK is on course to win three seats - including Clacton.

The other candidates there are:

  • Matthew Bensilum, Lib Dems;
  • Craig Jamieson, Climate Party;
  • Tony Mack, independent;
  • Natasha Osben, Greens;
  • Jovan Owusu-Nepaul, Labour;
  • Tasos Papanastasiou, Heritage Party;
  • Andrew Pemberton, UKIP;
  • Giles Watling, Conservatives.

You may recall that during the election campaign, Channel 4 News went undercover with Nigel Farage's Reform UK campaign, and filmed activists making racist and homophobic comments.

Mr Farage and his party leadership claimed the report was a stitch-up of some kind, and that the broadcaster used an actor as a "plant" to damage them.

The media watchdog, Ofcom, said it received over 270 complaints about the programme, and it decided to "urgently" assess them, given that it is the election period.

The complaints were assessed under Ofcom's rules around due accuracy, due impartiality, and other offence rules under the Broadcasting Code.

However, those complaints have been dismissed.

The regulator said in a statement: "For all of these complaints, we have concluded that they do not raise substantive issues warranting further investigation.".

A spokesperson for Channel 4 News said: "Ofcom's decision underscores the integrity of Channel 4 News's journalism and high editorial standards.

“The programme will continue to refute any claims that we - or the production company we worked with – knew or paid the Reform UK canvasser, Mr Andrew Parker.

"We met Mr Parker for the first time at Reform UK's campaign headquarters in Clacton, and he was filmed secretly via the undercover investigation."

Reform UK has been approached for comment.

By Darren McCaffrey, political correspondent

On a slightly damp afternoon, in a summer so far marked by disappointing weather, the Conservative campaign bus pulled into a primary school in rural Hampshire today.

A smattering of Lib Dem activists (I counted five) had bothered to turn up to protest the against the prime minister.

I say protest - it was actually to gloat, and even then through mild bemusement rather than anger.

They knew the game was up. It felt like everyone knew the game was up.

I mean, a campaign stop with five-year-olds the day before seemed a little pointless.

It was a day riven with resignation.

Earlier, the work and pensions secretary had essentially conceded, talking about a future Labour government, pleading to voters not to give Sir Keir Starmer a "supermajority".

The next stop was a campaign visit in a seat the Tories might actually hold.

Though that has been a feature of the entire campaign, almost exclusively we've only been in seats with Rishi Sunak that should have traditionally been ultra-Conservative.

Village pubs, farm shops, garden centres and large homes have been ubiquitous.

The last stop was one final campaign rally tonight, with maybe a hundred people.

We were told not to expect any surprises, and that in itself was hardly a surprise.

The Conservative campaign started in a very wet Downing Street, it ends in the drizzle in Southampton.

It has simply petered out.

By Matthew Thompson, political correspondent

And that, as they say, is that. The Lib Dem bus has run out of road.

It's taken us nearly 6,000 miles, over nearly six weeks, all the way from John O'Groats in Scotland to Land's End in Cornwall, and pretty much everywhere in between.

And Sir Ed Davey has thrown himself into almost every body of water we've passed on the way. I occasionally joined him. It has been by turns exhausting, thrilling, and soaking wet.

The question is, has any of it worked?

Of course, we will know for sure in just under 24 hours. But it's worth a quick reading of the runes nonetheless.

What is notable is that the Lib Dem's overall share of the national vote hasn't really moved at all. It may have ticked up a couple of percentage points since the start of the campaign, but is now hovering about where it’s been, at 11%, for the best part of a year.

How Lib Dems are playing the system

But then, that hasn't really been the point. Senior Lib Dem sources aren't remotely bothered about their national vote share. They've been running a much more targeted campaign, focussed on 80/90 seats where they came second in 2019 - almost exclusively to the Conservatives.

The Lib Dems are playing the mechanics of the voting system, which rewards votes that are concentrated, not thinly spread.

And as the campaign has gone on, they have widened the number of those seats that they think are winnable.

What would be a good night?

Understandably, nobody at Lib Dem towers will put a number on exactly how many. But I think, based on a few conversations with senior party sources, that anything above 40 seats would be considered a good night.

Up as far as 70, as a few of the recent MRP polls have suggested, would be dreamland.

In my last conversation with Sir Ed before he drove off for the last time (in a pink Cadillac, naturally) he told me he was optimistic, but nervous.

Fortunately, he doesn't have long to wait.

As we sit in the private jet Sir Keir Starmer's "changed" Labour Party has chosen as the last transport to end the campaign on, he wanders down the aisle towards us to give his reflections on the campaign and the historic heights they may reach tomorrow evening.

From the very start, Labour's strategy was to be as cautious as they could be.

Campaign events have felt controlled and sometimes even staged because they knew they were the front-runners going into this election. They've always felt it was theirs to lose.

The party went into the campaign 20+ points ahead in the polls - a remarkable lead, given that it is the governing party who decides when to call the election.

And since that first rainy day the prime minister called the election, that lead hasn't really dropped.

So they must feel vindicated, that their strategy has worked.

Sir Keir says they were always prepared: "We started the serious preparations during the Liz Truss period. I said, 'we need to be ready for an election any time'."

He said from then on he was vocal and persuaded Morgan McSweeney to head up operations and to set up one team to spearhead the election strategy.

Is 'dull' a strength?

Travelling around these past few weeks as we followed the Labour leader, I've been surprised at the public's appetite to give the Tories a kicking.

It's calmed some of Labour’s jitters over the campaign. They linger, but it’s more nervous excitement now than paralysing fear.

The critique of Labour's strategy we heard repeatedly from voters was both the policies and the politicians lack excitement, but the party are almost gleeful when you tell them their campaign has been boring.

They think being "dull" is a strength - and to be honest, they probably don't want you to remember much about this election other than their broad messages of "change".

But it is effective - because they are promising the one thing the Conservatives can't. And that's simply to not be the Tories.

The problem with balancing a message of optimism with pragmatism is one of those promises gets you into government and the other can cause you big problems once you're there.
