10. Wyckoff House Museum
![open house tours nyc Wyckoff HOuse](https://untappedcities.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Wyckoff-House-Oldest-House-in-Brooklyn-Canarsie-NYC.jpg)
One of a handful of historical farms you can visit in New York City, the Wyckoff House in Brooklyn claims the title of the oldest house in New York City and state. It was built between 1652 and 1819 in a mashup of Dutch colonial style and Flemish Medieval Survival style. It’s surrounded by 1.5 acres of gardens, which includes a colonial kitchen garden and farm.
Unfortunately, the interiors of the Wyckoff House will not be accessible due to damage sustained during Hurricane Ida, but a self-guided audio tour will explain the history and architecture of the site as well as the legacy of the family who built it and their ties to the native Lenape people and enslaved African Americans. On Saturday, the home will host Farmhouse Family Day with outdoor activities in the garden for kids.

Open House New York Weekend
Special Event
Open House New York
On October 21-23, 2022, the 20th Annual OHNY Weekend festival will take place, offering a mix of in-person experiences, self-guided explorations, and digital content for three days of education, exploration, and engagement. During the Weekend, hundreds of places—from single rooms, studios, factories, and public spaces to entire buildings, blocks, bike corridors, and waterways—open up across the five boroughs for tours, talks, and special programming.
Many of the places and experiences offered during OHNY Weekend are rarely accessible to the public. OHNY Weekend provides a special opportunity to peek behind the curtain, explore, and discover New York with fellow adventurers. The defining feature of OHNY Weekend is its breadth: OHNY Weekend ranks among the largest public design festivals in the nation.
Save the date: The 2022 OHNY Weekend line-up will be shared with the general public on October 6, and reservations for in-person tours will open on October 13.

Our Mission
Open house new york promotes broad, unparalleled access to the city—to the places, people, projects, systems, and ideas that define new york and its future. through our year-round programming, including the annual ohny weekend festival, ohny offers a citywide platform for education, exploration, and engagement about the connections between quality of place and quality of life for all new yorkers. .
As OHNY enters its third decade, we are introducing new programs that unlock the places and stories behind the New York experience and expanding our ongoing investigation of the city’s infrastructure and systems, both natural and constructed, to address aspects of equity, race, ethnicity, and the climate crisis. The aim of our work is to ensure every New Yorker can enjoy full access to the greatest city in the world.
Since its founding in the wake of 9/11, when much of the city was closed off due to increased security, OHNY has advocated for openness as a defining principle of civic life. Offering an insider’s look at the forces that shape the city, OHNY promotes a deeper understanding of how the city functions and whom it serves. The theory of change guiding our work is that an informed public fosters greater civic participation, which in turn catalyzes an open city.
Our History
Open house new york was founded by architect scott lauer in 2001 to engage new yorkers in the city’s architecture, public space, and the future of urban life..
With the help of a dedicated board and volunteers, OHNY became an important platform for celebrating New York at a critical moment in its history. Following the events of September 11, when much of the city was closing itself off through increased security measures, OHNY offered a countervailing force, one that advocated for openness and access as key components of an enlightened and vibrant civic life.
The inaugural Open House New York Weekend was held in 2003 as part of the city’s first Architecture Week. With the help of 300 volunteers, that event included 84 sites in all five boroughs.
Since the inaugural year, the event has grown exponentially, increasing its outreach and audience participation; the number of sites, talks, and tours; and developing additional thematic and interpretive programming. OHNY Weekend now includes more than 300 participating sites and offering 1,300 tours with an estimated 20,000 visitors and more than 1,000 registered volunteers.
We believe openness is a New York value.
Open House New York has always stood for openness, accessibility, and civic dialogue—the same values that make our democracy work. In 2020, OHNY began the hard work of examining the realities of New York and more purposely advocating for a truly open city—one where streets, libraries, parks, and other democratizing places are safe and accessible to all New Yorkers, regardless of skin color, religion, sexuality, or other marker of difference.
Our embrace of an open city is as much about people as it is about place. As we continue our work to broaden and deepen an understanding and appreciation of the richness of diversity and experiences that define our city, we are also developing initiatives that prioritize equity and inclusion.

New York Rangers put depth forward Barclay Goodrow on waivers

The New York Rangers put Barclay Goodrow on waivers Tuesday, the first step of an offseason plan to clear salary cap space and prime for another deep playoff run.
Goodrow is signed for three more seasons at an annual cap hit of $3.6 million. That comes off the books if one of the NHL’s other 31 teams claims him.
If Goodrow clears waivers, the Rangers have options to trade him or buy out the final three years of his contract. A buyout would save them $3.9 million next season, $2.6 million in 2025-26 and $139,000 in 2026-27 before costing an extra $1.1 million the following three seasons through 2030.
Goodrow, 31, has been a valuable depth center on several long playoff runs going back to San Jose’s trip to the Western Conference final in 2019. He played a key role in Tampa Bay’s back-to-back Stanley Cup-winning teams in 2020 and ’21 and helped New York reach the Eastern Conference final in ’22 and this postseason before losing to Florida.
The Toronto native has 169 points in 572 regular-season games and 24 more in 97 games in the playoffs since making his debut in the league in 2014.
