EA SPORTS™ PGA TOUR™ Patch Notes 7.0

Take a look at upcoming changes coming to ea sports pga tour..

On September 26th, EA SPORTS™ PGA TOUR™ will get an update which includes a new course, season, and many highly requested features. Read on to learn all the details about the update.

Welcome to Season 6 and the Ryder Cup!

This season the Ryder Cup has taken over EA SPORTS™ PGA TOUR™ with big changes that you can’t miss. When you enter the game, you’ll now be presented with a choice between team USA or Europe. This decision impacts many aspects of your journey and remains in effect for the entire season so choose wisely!

In the main menu, you’ll now see your golfer representing either team Europe or USA, proudly wearing the uniform of your chosen team. Additionally, you will be greeted with the captivating Ryder Cup theme music and see that the UI and background reflect the theme of your selection.

You can now play the prestigious Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, the host of the 2023 Ryder Cup. Additionally, you have the opportunity to participate in the Ryder Cup on other iconic courses that have previously hosted the event, including Kiawah Island, Oak Hill, The Country Club, and Whistling Straits.

Season 6 brings exciting updates to the Pro Pass*, allowing you to earn the coveted "MultiVerse" gear set for either team USA or Europe. If you complete the Pro Pass, you’ll also earn Scottie Scheffler's Ball Spec in the free tier, while the premium tier unlocks a brand new Titleist SM9 Custom Team USA or Europe Wedge. Just like last season, you’ll earn tokens to level up your Pro Pass by completing live Quests, Ryder Cup Challenges, and playing rounds in Online, Tournaments, and Career modes. In Season 6, new Quest types have been added to reward your participation in Ryder Cup formats, including Match Play, Foursomes, and Four-Ball.

Playing in the Ryder Cup takes on many forms throughout Season 6, depending on which mode you choose: Online, Tournaments, Challenges, Quick Play, or Private Match. But regardless of which mode you choose, we wanted to make sure that every round feels like the Ryder Cup. When you start a round, you’ll hear the Ryder Cup anthem and commentary that brings you into the action. Throughout the round, you’ll hear the crowd chanting for their favorite team and notice the more dedicated fans that dressed up for the occasion. Because the crowd is such an essential part of the Ryder Cup, we made sure to expand the game’s capabilities so you can now play with crowd enabled in any of the turn-based formats across Online and Private Match modes.

We are excited to announce that 2v2 team formats Foursomes and Four-Ball are now available to play in Online and Private Match modes. In Online mode, you can choose whether to matchmake by yourself or invite a friend and compete as a team. Note that your team USA or Europe affiliation is purely visual and has no effect on who you can compete with or against in Online or Private Match. In these Ryder Cup formats, you’ll always see your partner wearing the uniform of your team, while your opponents will be wearing the uniform of the opposing team.

Online leaderboards now feature updated filters for tracking performance in Foursomes and Four-Ball formats. Additionally, a new "Top 100 Teams Leaderboard" tracks the performance of each unique team of player pairs.

Challenges mode is also getting into the spirit of the Ryder Cup. New challenge series have been added, showcasing history from the 1991, 1995, 1999, and 2020 Ryder Cups. You can also look forward to Challenges for the 2023 Ryder Cup that will be released after the event.

Weekly and Seasonal Tournaments are also Ryder Cup themed and are hosted at Marco Simone or any of the other historic Ryder Cup courses. These tournaments also mark the introduction of crowds for the first time.

You can also play any of the Ryder Cup formats in Quick Play, with friends or AI players in any combination that suits your preference.

We are also raising the max level for created golfers from 50 to 60. In order to support this update, note that the OVR calculation has been adjusted to fit this scale to avoid player OVRs entering into the 100’s. Players at a lower OVR likely won’t notice much change, but unfortunately players at a high OVR will see their rating reduced.

There have also been some improvements to the zoom camera. The low-view putting zoom camera’s accuracy has been improved and can now be moved all the way back to the ball, allowing you to read the entire putt without changing your aim location. The zoom camera now smoothly transitions between zoom camera heights without resetting its orientation, providing a more immersive and less disorienting experience.

  • Menus and game art get a design refresh, switching from Ryder Cup to original Masters theme.
  • Noteworthy visual upgrade includes 3D grass interactions and quality of life enhancements.

The gaming world has been eagerly awaiting updates to EA SPORTS PGA TOUR , and the developers have now officially rolled out Season 7. Released today, October 24th, the update promises several exciting new features, visual improvements, and gameplay optimizations. Let’s delve into the particulars.

Season 7 and Halloween

Season 7 has arrived, featuring a new Pro Pass with two tiers. The free tier offers Scottie Scheffler’s Signature Wood Spec, while the premium tier provides Halloween-themed gear and apparel. Players can earn tokens to advance their Pro Pass by participating in live Quests and rounds in various modes like Online, Tournaments, and Career.

Design Refinements

Gone is the Ryder Cup-centric design, making way for the original Masters theme in menus, screens, and key art. Players will notice the visual refresh, which offers a more generic Masters aesthetic suitable for any season.

ea sports pga tour latest update

Online Playlists

This update addresses some limitations in the online gameplay experience. Ryder Cup formats have been removed from Private Match due to technical constraints, but the team aims to reintroduce them in a future update. The standard Foursomes and Match Play formats now feature a more comprehensive range of courses.

Visual Enhancements

The game now boasts a significant visual upgrade, most notably in how 3D grass reacts when in contact with the ball, club, or golfer, providing a more realistic experience.

Quality of Life Updates

This update is packed with numerous quality-of-life improvements. For instance, AI’s ability around the green has been honed, and several bugs related to AI partner selection in Career mode have been fixed. The update also addresses an issue in Challenges where players weren’t always awarded stars on their first attempt.

New Gameplay Specs

Two new gameplay specs have been introduced:

  • Superior Impact: Boosts Power and Accuracy attributes.
  • Superior Pathfinder: Increases Control and Recovery attributes.

Bug Fixes and Other Improvements

The patch brings an extensive list of fixes and improvements, tackling issues from online gameplay glitches to user interface refinements. Fixes are in place for lagging scorecards, visibility of tee and tee flying VFX, multiple online issues including matchmaking and timers, as well as various Career and Challenge bugs.

The Pro Pass now includes a “More Info” screen that explains its features and commonly asked questions. Even the in-game crowd behavior has been optimized, along with updates to outfits and gear, including brand new Ralph Lauren and Ryder Cup 1927 logos in the UI.

Stability and Performance

Finally, stability improvements are also part of this update to ensure a smoother gaming experience. Fixes have been made to prevent softlocks and other issues that could disrupt gameplay.

So, whether you’re a casual player or a PGA TOUR aficionado, this update aims to elevate your virtual golfing experience. Season 7 seems primed to offer a blend of fun, realism, and challenge for everyone.

Online playlists have been updated to replace the Ryder Cup Foursomes and Match Play formats with standard Foursomes and Match Play formats that include a wider variety of courses. Ryder Cup formats have also been removed from Private Match due to technical limitations of having them available during a non-Ryder Cup season, but we will be looking to bring them back in a future update. Ryder Cup formats remain available in Quick Play.

One of the most noticeable visual improvements in this update is that 3D grass now reacts when it collides with the ball, club, or golfer. Here’s an example of what it looks like in gameplay.

On October 24th, EA SPORTS™ PGA TOUR™ will get an update which includes a new season, Halloween themed gear and cosmetics, and many highly requested features and bug fixes. Read on to learn about all the details about the update.

Many quality of life updates and bug fixes were prioritized for this patch. Highlights include improving AI’s ability around the green, fix for the divot flying before the ball is hit in online gameplay, and fixes for how AI playing partner is selected in Career mode. Lastly, there has been an issue affecting Challenges where stars sometimes wouldn’t be received in the first attempt, but would work after the player restarts the challenge. We believe this issue has been fixed with this update, but will continue to monitor results to confirm.

Thank you for your continued support!

  • Superior Impact: Significantly increases Power and Accuracy attributes.
  • Superior Pathfinder: Significantly increases Control and Recovery attributes.
  • Improved AI golfer’s ability to hit pitch and sand shots around the green.
  • Drive shot type is now available to use on shots closer to the hole so that it is available on short par 3’s for golfers who have not yet unlocked the Finesse shot type.
  • Fix for 2 putt read lines being shown if an unplayable lie is requested while the golfer is already on the green.
  • Fixed noticeable lagging that could occur when opening the scorecard screen during active gameplay. The issue was most apparent if the scorecard screen was opened while the ball was in motion.

  • Fix for an issue where if both players remain idle in online match play, the round can continue without either of them being kicked due to time violations.
  • Fixed an issue where if a player remains idle for multiple holes in online Four-Ball, they are now kicked immediately after their final timeout instead of waiting until the next hole-out occurred.
  • Multiple fixes for how the AI playing partner is selected. The logic now ensures that the closest AI player in the leaderboard is selected and your player’s tee time is not affected by which AI playing partner was selected. This also fixed a rare issue where the in-game scorecard could show a different golfer’s name than the AI playing partner.
  • Fixed the “End of Career” pop-up so that the “Restart Career” option now functions correctly.
  • Fixed a bug where OWGR points were not updated if multiple events were skipped. This also fixed a related bug where the scoring average would show in an incorrect value at the end of the season.

8 Hardest Open-World Games To 100% Complete, Ranked

Steam giving away free 2018 game with 'very positive' reviews, mortal kombat 1 kombat pack 2 wish list.

EA Sports PGA Tour released the patch notes of its 4.0 update, which fixes various bugs and improves the overall gameplay experience for all golf lovers. This update comes two months after the official release of EA Sports PGA Tour to fix issues and bring many quality-of-life improvements requested by the community.

EA Sports PGA Tour is the latest entry in the eponymous franchise, bringing this sports game back into the spotlight after an eight-year hiatus. Compared to previous games in the franchise, including Tiger Woods PGA Tour and the more recent Rory McIlroy PGA Tour , this new edition of EA Sports PGA Tour brings various new features and gameplay improvements. EA Sports PGA Tour includes over 30 different courses, including Augusta National, the Old Course at St Andrews Links, and two fantasy courses. EA announced that more courses will join the game in the coming months, and one of them is releasing with EA Sports PGA Tour update 4.0.

The patch notes of EA Sports PGA Tour update 4.0 reveal a variety of stability fixes and gameplay improvements, as well as the introduction of new weekly and seasonal content. This update brings the Los Angeles Country Club to all game modes, increasing the number of available courses in EA Sports PGA Tour . The U.S. Open Championship now alternates every season between The Los Angeles Country Club and The Country Club in career mode, and new challenges will be available during the U.S. Open Championship to recreate key moments of this competition.

On top of the stability fixes and new weekly challenges, the EA Sports PGA Tour update 4.0 brings many quality-of-life improvements, such as a new look for the Swing Meter and Aiming Arc to better indicate where the ball will be heading. This update also changes some of the golfers’ models to better represent some of the pro golfers included in EA Sports PGA Tour , which adds women golfers for the first time in the franchise.

EA promised to regularly update its golfing sports game, with more challenges and courses added throughout the months. Ever since the release of Tiger Woods 99 PGA Tour Golf in 1998, the franchise has brought over $771 million to Electronic Arts, and because 2023’s EA Sports PGA Tour sales on Steam amounted to almost $700,000 during the first week of its release, it seems likely that EA will keep on improving the game and release new entries to regain PGA Tour ’s place as one of the most popular sports games .

EA Sports PGA Tour Adds Performance Mode 60 FPS in Latest Update - Patch Notes

Image of Steve Noah

EA Sports PGA Tour patch 4.5 was released today adding Performance Mode, which allows Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 users to play at 60 FPS. Players will see improved camera motion and animation in Performance Mode with a slight decrease in resolution and visual fidelity. A new Visual Quality toggle has been added in the Settings menu under Visual allowing users to select from the aforementioned mode or Quality Mode, which offers the best visual quality capped at 30 FPS.

The update also addresses an issue with the Career Mode scoreboard where the leaderboard displayed golfers with an E score during intro and outro sequences, regardless of their actual score. The team continues to work on future updates which include additional event length options for Career Mode and turn-based online gameplay.

Check out the full patch notes below.

PGA Tour pro Grayson Murray’s family release update with a powerful message

Grayson Murray’s sudden passing on Saturday rocked the golf world.

His mother and father, Eric and Terry Murray, issued a statement through the PGA Tour on Sunday which detailed his cause of death.

“We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare,” Murray’s parents said.

Fellow PGA Tour players sent their condolences to him and his family as they began to process the tragic news. A dark cloud sat over professional golf Saturday and continues to.

It is hard to grasp what his parents are going through right now, but they found a way to put together these words as the tragedy remains fresh on everyone’s minds.

“We have so many questions that have no answers. But one. Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and – it seems – by many of you who are reading this.”

“We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support. Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.”

Murray played on Thursday in Fort Worth at the Charles Schwab Challenge but withdrew with two holes left on Friday due to an illness.

The news broke Saturday afternoon when PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan released a statement.

“I am at a loss for words,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement. “The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”

Monahan did not shut the tournament down because Murray’s parents asked for it to continue because that is what their son would have wanted. The commissioner stated grief counselors would be at the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour event this week.

Murray struggled with anxiety and depression throughout his career. He also dealt with alcohol issues in the past. However, when he won the Sony Open in Hawaii this past January, his life was headed in the right direction.

At the time, Murray noted he had been sober for eight months. He also spoke openly about his struggles off the golf course and his newfound faith.

Murray’s parents issued a powerful message to the public at the end of their statement as they and the rest of the golf world grieve this loss.

“Please respect our privacy as we work through this incredible tragedy, and please honor Grayson by being kind to one another,” they said. “If that becomes his legacy, we could ask for nothing else.”

Scottie Scheffler arrested by police before second round

World number one golfer Scottie Scheffler was charged with assaulting a police officer outside Valhalla Golf Club hours before starting his second round at the 2024 PGA Championship.

Scheffler — who was also charged with third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic — was released by police just in time to take to the course for his tee-off time of 10:08am ET. He impressed with a five-under round of 66 that moved him into third, at nine-under for the tournament.

The Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections, who posted a mugshot of the 27-year-old, said he was booked in at 7.28am local time and released at 8.40am. Scheffler later described the incident as “a big misunderstanding”.

The start of Friday’s second round was delayed by 80 minutes because of an unrelated crash near the course . Louisville police said a shuttle bus had struck and killed a pedestrian outside the golf club. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg later named him as local man John Mills.

Xander Schauffele 36-hole leader at PGA Championship with Morikawa, Scheffler chasing

Xander Schauffele stepped onto the first tee Friday at Valhalla Golf Club after a historic first round at the PGA Championship. He shot a 9-under 62, giving him the 18-hole lead. It tied the men’s major scoring record, the lowest round in PGA Championship history.

Friday’s round for Schauffele didn’t smash records or set career-scoring bests. But it kept the 30-year-old atop the PGA Championship leaderboard heading into the weekend.

Schauffele shot a second-round 68, giving him the 36-hole lead. It’s the second consecutive week Schauffele led a tournament after 36 holes. Last week, Schauffele couldn’t secure the win, thanks to a dominant performance from Rory McIlroy.

The seven-time PGA Tour winner is looking for a different outcome this week, attempting to capture his first major championship.

Watch out for Bryson

This is the second time Bryson DeChambeau has started a major with back-to-back rounds in the 60s.

The other was his win at the 2020 U.S. Open.

Koepka records 8 birdies in second round

It was a roller coaster second round for Brooks Koepka.

He shot a 3-under 68, which consisted of eight birdies.

But it also included three bogeys and a double.

Koepka sits at 7-under-par, five off the lead held by Xander Schauffele.

Tiger birdies 18 but misses cut

Woods 7-over-par

Tiger Woods finished the 2024 PGA Championship at 7-over-par.

He shot a 6-over 77 in his second round.

But Tiger finished the PGA at Valhalla, where he won this event in 2000, with a birdie on 18.

Woods hasn't made a cut at the PGA since 2020.

Brooks Koepka had a double bogey on the par-5 10th.

He's rallied with three birdies since, including one on the par-4 15th.

Koepka has seven birdies on the day and is four off the lead at 8-under-par.

What's at stake for Robert MacIntyre

Robert MacIntyre has never previously been in the top 20 entering the third round of a major.

Where PGA champions need to be after 36 holes

31 of the last 34 winners of the PGA Championship have been in the top 10 through 36 holes.

Over the last 30 years, 91 percent of men's major winners have been in the top 10 entering the third round.

McIlroy going in the wrong direction

Rory McIlroy, who won the PGA the last time it was staged at Valhalla, is going in the wrong direction.

After being 1-under-par through 11 holes, McIlroy records a double-bogey 6 on the par-4 12th.

He is 4-under-par for the tournament, eight back of the lead.

Needs a strong finish coming in to get back in the mix.

Inside the most bizarre day in major golf with the arrest of Scottie Scheffler

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The most shocking day in golf major championship history began with a tragedy, and saw Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 male player in the world, arrested, booked into a local jail and released in time to tee off.

It was just after 5 a.m. on a rainy Friday morning that police were called to the street outside of Valhalla Golf Club. A shuttle bus traveling down Shelbyville Road struck and killed John Mills, a local man working the PGA Championship for a tournament vendor.

The fatal wreck caused traffic to be shut down in both directions outside of Valhalla, which is hosting the major championship for the first time in a decade. Scheffler arrived at the scene an hour later, amid a steady rain and flashing police lights, seeking to enter the property and begin preparation for an 8:48 a.m. tee time for Round 2 of the PGA Championship. A police and security presence outside of a major championship routine is typical, even common. “I drive by cops like that probably 10 times a year,” one PGA Tour swing coach said, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter.

What happened next was anything but common. When Scheffler, traveling eastbound, attempted to move his vehicle into the westbound lane, according to the Louisville Police Department arrest report, detective Bryan Gillis attempted to stop the vehicle. The police report said Scheffler continued forward, “dragging Detective Gillis to the ground,” and noted that he suffered injuries that required medical treatment, as well as irreparable damage to his $80 uniform pants. Jeff Darlington, an ESPN NFL reporter assigned to cover the second golf major of the year, happened to be on the scene and watched it unfold, reporting that Scheffler’s vehicle moved 10 to 20 yards before coming to a final stop.

Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, said Scheffler was originally instructed to go in and that the officer directing traffic was not part of the event traffic detail. “So that’s where the miscommunication arose and that’s why we’re here,” Romines said Friday morning.

When Scheffler did stop, he lowered his window and the officer reached in, grabbed Scheffler’s arm and pulled the door open, Darlington reported. The officer then put Scheffler in handcuffs and pushed him against the car. As Scheffler was escorted toward a police car in the rainy dark, a video filmed by Darlington showed Scheffler turning to say, “Can you help?”

“You need to get out of the way,” another officer told Darlington. “Right now, he’s going to jail, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Schauffele drops a shot, lead is 1

Xander Schauffele makes his first bogey of the week.

The last player to go the first 36 holes of a PGA Championship without a single bogey is Hale Irwin in 1993.

Schauffele falls to 12-under-par, one ahead of Collin Morikawa.

Schauffele improves to 13-under-par

Xander Schauffele is now 13-under.

The lowest 36-hole score to par in men's major championship history is 14 under by Jordan Spieth at the 2015 Masters.

Will Zalatoris: Players discussed delaying, canceling PGA Championship second round

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A small group of players discussed not playing the second round of the PGA Championship as scheduled following the death of a pedestrian outside of Valhalla Golf Club, as well as the arrest of world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

Will Zalatoris detailed the 20-30 minute conversation, which took place in the Valhalla locker room, to a small group of reporters after his round Friday afternoon. The group of unnamed players considered approaching the PGA of America about the cancellation or delay of Friday’s play, he said.

“Some of the guys were talking about, wondering if we should even play today,” Zalatoris said. “At one point there were a group of guys in the locker room talking about going to the PGA of America about it, but I think it was dead in the water in the locker room. It was bizarre. We just didn’t know … when Scottie was going to get out, any of the details.”

Tee times were delayed by one hour and 20 minutes on Friday after a shuttle bus struck and killed John Mills, who was working for a tournament vendor. The PGA moved the first tee times from 7:15 a.m. ET to 8:35.

Scottie Scheffler climbs PGA Championship leaderboard hours after arrest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Scottie Scheffler, the world’s most dominant golfer, rose up the leaderboard of the PGA Championship on Friday, hours after he was arrested while trying to navigate a traffic backup caused by a crash that killed a pedestrian outside Valhalla Golf Club.

In an extraordinary sequence of events over about three hours, Scheffler was handcuffed while arriving at the course before sunrise, booked while wearing an orange jumpsuit in downtown Louisville and driven back to the course with stunned crowds following his every move as his newly hired local lawyer told reporters that he would comply with an investigation into his interaction with a police officer who was directing traffic. Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

Scheffler’s day on the course finally began at 10:08 a.m. ET, when he teed off nearly four hours after his arrest. He went on to shoot a 5-under-par 66, climbing into a tie for third on the leaderboard. Scheffler, who said he began stretching in a jail cell Friday in hopes of returning to Valhalla in time for his tee time, said after the round his head was “spinning.”

“It was a chaotic situation and a big misunderstanding,” Scheffler said.

Following his second-round 66, Scottie Scheffler high-fived fans as he walked off the course to sign his scorecard.

Scottie Scheffler said he feels his head is “still spinning” after the sequence of events he experienced on Friday. He was arrested and handcuffed Friday morning while arriving at the course before sunrise, booked in an orange jumpsuit in downtown Louisville, then returned to Valhalla Golf Club and shot a second-round 66 at the PGA Championship.

Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m., according to online court records, two days after the PGA Championship is scheduled to end.

Asked to encapsulate what transpired, Scheffler described his pre-round routine, which took place in jail.

“I did spend some time stretching in a jail cell that was a first for me,” Scheffler said after his second round.

Scheffler said his “main focus after getting arrested” was whether he could continue playing in the PGA Championship. He said that he was in “shock” when he got arrested and that he was “shaking for an hour,” trying to calm down.

While getting fingerprinted in jail, Scheffler said a police officer offered him a sandwich.

“Sure, I’ll take a sandwich, I didn’t eat breakfast yet,” Scheffler said.

Scheffler teed off at 10:08 a.m., nearly four hours after his arrest. He described Friday's round as “pretty good.”

“It was nice to be able to put together a solid round today for sure,” Scheffler said.

This isn’t pleasant to watch: Tiger Woods, a 15-time major winner, has carded his second triple-bogey seven in the space of three holes.

This time his game deserts him on the fourth, having also bogeyed the third. He’s now eight over — seven over for the round — and his hopes of making it to the weekend are long gone.

Els, Chalmers share Senior PGA Championship lead going to final round

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Ernie Els kept the mistakes to a minimum down the stretch Saturday and hit wedge in tight for birdie on his final hole for a 2-under 69, giving him a share of the lead with Greg Chalmers going into the final round of the Senior PGA Championship.

Chalmers, the left-handed Australian renowned for his putting, had a 66 while making only two bogeys, not a bad mark on the Harbor Shores course that gave so many fits.

Els, a four-time major champion and among the best of his generation, is in great position to finally get a first major title on the senior circuit. This is his 17th senior major, and even he was surprised to be atop the leaderboard.

They were at 10-under 203.

Richard Bland of England, the LIV Golf player who got into his first senior major from an exemption category he didn’t know existed, started out at 12-under par and then began a quick slide through tentative putting and shot 74 to fall one shot behind.

“I’m fortunate enough to be up there,” Els said. “You know, 10 under is leading at the moment; 12 under was leading yesterday. I played solid. I didn’t play spectacular, but played solid enough to get myself up there.”

There was enough wind, difficult pin positions and tough greens on the Jack Nicklaus design that it took nearly six hours for the 83 players who made the cut to complete the third round.

“Hopefully, we can move better tomorrow,” Els said.

There could be a lot of movement on the leaderboard. Harbor Shores yielded its share of birdies, particularly on the par 5s that were downwind, but it didn’t take much for players to get out of position and find themselves scrambling for par.

Even so, it was crowded at the top.

Bland and Chris DiMarco, who didn’t make a birdie on the back nine in his round of 71, were one shot behind. Richard Green of Australia had two eagles and still only managed a 70 after a bogey on the final hole.

The four players who were three shots behind included defending champion Steve Stricker, former British Open champion Stewart Cink and Jason Caron, a former PGA Tour player and one of the club pros competing in the Senior PGA Championship.

Chalmers ran off five straight birdies starting on No. 6 to take the lead before his golf got a “little scratchy” on the back nine. It was the control of irons that left him thinking he has a good chance to capture his first senior major.

“Not super comfortable with my driver today, but I was very comfortable with every other area of my game,” Chalmers said. “So if I can just get that squared away for tomorrow, see if we can get out there and compete. Looks pretty bunched up at the moment, so should be an exciting day, hopefully.”

Bland struggled with the wind, distance control and his putting. He made four bogeys in a stretch of six holes around the turn — he made par on the downwind, par-5 ninth, which felt like a bogey — and found himself as many as two shots behind.

He birdied the par-3 17th to get within one of Els and Chalmers, and it gave him a dose of perspective. Part of him is happy to be in the field. He was not aware of a one-time exemption for players who have won in the last five years on the European tour.

Bland couldn’t use it last year because it conflicted with LIV Golf Bedminster. But he was able to use it this year, and he goes into the last round just one shot behind.

“If someone offered you a shot off the lead at the start of the week, probably would’ve taken it. Doesn’t quite feel as good as that right now, but just got to get on with it,” Bland said. “Been around enough to know that you’re going to have some poor days. Of course you are. But do a little bit of work now and just try and get a little bit of just better.”
