Black Veil Brides & Creeper

Black Veil Brides & Creeper

Black Veil Brides

Before the birth of the BVB Army, the thousands of lyric tattoos, and the gold and platinum records that followed, Black Veil Brides was simply a dark vision dreamt up by an only child in Ohio.

He loved Batman and KISS. Then, the striking visage of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street , on the cover of his dad’s dusty CD (released a dozen years before he was born) kicked open the door for Andy Biersack. Sweeney Todd cleared the way for The Phantom of the Opera , Misfits, and all that followed, culminating in the birth of Andy Black and the ascension of Black Veil Brides.

The Bleeders EP, Black Veil Brides’ inaugural release in a new partnership with Spinefarm Records, celebrates one of the singer’s first loves. The EP boasts the title track alongside a loving rendition of Sweeney Todd ’s “My Friends” and a faithful cover of U2’s “Sunday Bloody Sunday.”

The group’s cinematic scope and unwavering commitment to self-expression strikes a familiar chord with their fellow “bleeders” who seek refuge (and revenge) in the power of the dark and imagination.

There are over 160 million views of “Knives and Pens,” an early demo committed to music video before Andy (who moved to Hollywood at 18 and lived in his car) met his band of brothers. The RIAA-certified platinum single “In the End,” itself close to 170M views, further proves the group whose merch dominated Hot Topic before they’d even made their debut album was built to last.

A treacherous DIY headlining outing in 2009 paved the way for the next 15 years of performances and beyond, a history that includes the triple-co-headlining smash Trinity Of Terror Tour; multiple mainstage runs on Vans Warped Tour; treks supporting Avenged Sevenfold and Mötley Crüe; and just about every major rock and metal festival in North and South America, Europe, and Australia.

Guitarists Jake Pitts and Jinxx joined the fold before the creation of BVB’s debut album, 2010’s We Stitch These Wounds . The duo played in an earlier band with drummer Christian Coma, who came aboard for their first Billboard Top 20 album, Set the World on Fire, featuring gold single “Fallen Angels.” Metalcore milestone Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones followed in 2013.

A no-frills fourth album, 2014’s Black Veil Brides , gave them another Top 10 debut. 2018’s Vale went to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hard Rock chart. 2021’s The Phantom Tomorrow, the band’s first album with bassist Lonny Eagleton, produced the No. 8 Rock single “Scarlet Cross,” their highest charting yet.

Bleeders offers a taste of what will become Black Veil Brides' most visceral, theatrical, and unrelenting era yet. They combine a unique identity with an unquenchable creative thirst. They’re an object of devotion for those who sing their anthems in unison, a diverse BVB Army who never surrenders.

Black Veil Brides and their audience slash away at the darkness together, bleeders one and all.

Creeper had formed in 2014 in Southampton, each of its members influenced by their mutual involvement in the town’s hardcore scene and a love of punk and glam rock. Oliver Burdett and Hannah Greenwood soon joined founding members Gould, Ian Miles, Dan Bratton and Sean Scott in 2015. “Creeper was born out of wanting to bring a fantasy element to punk rock, something we believed had been lost as we got older with all the plaid shirt-wearing emo bands,” says Gould proudly today. “We wanted to create something flamboyant, that had pomp,” They achieved this in spades with EPs that immediately garnered an obsessive fan-base of outsiders and lost teenagers affectionately dubbing themselves the Creeper Cult. The band were hailed as the best new rock band of recent times by critics, receiving a Kerrang! Award and Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award in 2016. Debut album Eternity, In Your Arms (2017) aimed to heighten their hometown by the sea to a place of mystery and grandeur; to echo realisations about growing up and out of your old, younger self. It debuted at number 1 in the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart and in the top 20 of the UK Albums Chart. Rarely does a new band break through into a scene where the majority of groups achieving those feats are 10+ years into their career, especially with a debut album.

The announcement of the UK tour comes off the back of Black Veil Bride’s 4-track EP, ‘The Mourning’, which was released on Friday (October 21). The record was mixed and produced by Erik Ron, who collaborated with the band on their previous project ‘The Phantom Tomorrow’, which dropped last year and included the single ‘Crimson Skies’ .

“A lot of this record touches on how galvanized we felt coming out of a very tumultuous few years as a band,” lead vocalist Andy Biersack said of the latest EP. “It is a genuine representation of how re-energized we feel. Not only as musicians, but also as friends.

“The making of our previous record ‘The Phantom Tomorrow’ with Erik Ron was one of the greatest experiences we’ve had collectively in the studio. The reception to that album was so passionate from the BVB Army that we felt like it was a no brainer to continue writing and recording with Erik and Anthony.”

Black Veil Brides

Tuesday 14 February 2023, 6:30pm - 10pm

Committed to uncompromising expression, with a foundation in hard rock tradition and rule-breaking iconoclasm, Black Veil Brides is a transcendent celebration of life-affirming power and anthemic catharsis. A gothic vision first summoned in a small town by an isolated kid fascinated with death, rock, theatricality, and monsters (both real and imagined), Black Veil Brides is now a postmodern heavy metal institution with a legion of like-minded fans and supporters worldwide.

A new chapter in the band’s ever-evolving story arrives with The Phantom Tomorrow , an ambitious sixth album pushing the music of Black Veil Brides forward without sacrificing their beloved signature sound. Built around a thematically rich story, written by singer Andy Biersack, The Phantom Tomorrow combines imaginative worldbuilding with unrelentingly catchy and melodic bombast. The twin-guitar attack of Jake Pitts and Jinxx cut through with sharp precision, overtop the steady pulse of powerhouse drummer Christian Coma and the fluid, rhythmic dynamics of Lonny Eagleton. Biersack’s rich baritone croon and soaring passion are anchored in the biggest hooks of the band’s career. Recorded in Los Angeles, with producer Erik Ron (Godsmack, Bush, Dance Gavin Dance), The Phantom Tomorrow excels as a series of standalone songs and a cohesive conceptual album.

The band’s strident opposition to conformity and obstacles (from both within and without) strikes a chord with every outcast who felt drawn to the allure of the dark. It’s evident in the 160 million-plus views of “Knives and Pens,” an early demo committed to video before singer Andy had found his band of brothers. The RIAA-certified gold single “In the End,” which itself boasts over 150 million views, is proof that the group whose merchandise dominated Hot Topic stores before they’d even dropped their debut album was no mere passing fad or ill-fated “scene.” This was built to last.  The Phantom Tomorrow follows five cherished full-length albums and 2019’s The Night EP, a body of work that boasts modern hard rock anthems like “Faithless,” “Wake Up,” “Perfect Weapon,” and “Goodbye Agony.” The first taste of The Phantom Tomorrow , “Scarlet Cross,” put the band in the Mainstream Rock Top 20 for the first time. Biersack, star of the 2017 film American Satan and follow-up 2021 TV series Paradise City on Amazon Prime, made his directorial debut with “Fields of Bone.” The music videos for both songs illustrate pieces of the story told across the album, mixing the tone of cult comic books, old English horror films, atmospheric thrillers, and thought-provoking ideology.

The world envisioned with the band’s sixth album, accompanying music videos, and related media is rendered with loving detail and nuance. There’s Blackbird, the watchful protector, a champion of justice. 9, leader of the Ninth Circle, an equal but opposite foil to Blackbird. The Phantom Tomorrow is an uprising from the underground, working tirelessly to shake the yoke of authoritarian oppression. Black Veil Brides, the band, plays the role of narrator, the overseeing Brothers Grimm of the dark tale. Even broken away from the sprawling and immersive story, the songs stand on their own with equal might. Tracks like “Torch,” “The Wicked One,” “Crimson Skies,” and “Kill the Hero” are mighty new entries to the Black Veil Brides canon. Each song released by the band in the decade-plus since their first full-length album serves as an empowering anthem, whether wrestling with existential angst, looking inward at heartbreak and despair, or challenging the status quo via post-apocalyptic allegory.

The pushed aside, marginalized, and misunderstood have a kindred spirt in Andy, the driving force and voice of the band. As detailed in his No. 1 Amazon Best Seller rock biography, They Don’t Need to Understand , Andy crafted a platform and an image with the same DIY spirit that drove Generation X, the Misfits, and KISS in their early days. He reached out from beyond the confines of Cincinnati, Ohio, at the dawn of social media, moving to Hollywood when he turned 18. Biersack has made six records with BVB; two solo albums as Andy Black; hosted the Alternative Press Music Awards; created The Ghost of Ohio graphic novel; and collaborated on various songs with Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy), Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance), and Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio/Blink-182), among others.

Jinxx and Pitts also fought to make their dreams come true in Hollywood through a series of false starts and empty promises. The unique chemistry between them is palpable. Together they forge a guitar sound worthy of their peers and idols, from Metallica to Avenged Sevenfold. Jinxx is also a film composer. Pitts is one half of the DJ duo Dr. Cool and Babe, whose credits include the remix of the Papa Roach song “Elevate.”  Both guitarists often help develop and mentor younger artists. Jake and Jinxx played with Coma in a previous band and knew his combination of sizeable charisma and devastating chops would make him a perfect fit for Black Veil Brides. He sat in with Falling In Reverse for a US tour and performed as part of a one-off exclusive Andy Black lineup at the APMAs, with Mikey Way (My Chemical Romance), Quinn Allman (The Used), and Feldmann (Goldfinger). Like Jason Newsted or the movie Rockstar , BVB’s newest member was a fan first. Already an accomplished live and studio musician who performed on the Juno Awards in his native Canada, Eagleton was tapped to play guitar on tour in support of Andy’s second solo album, The Ghost of Ohio , in 2019. When the bassist position opened up, he was a seamless fit as a performer and person.

The band’s tour history reads like a textbook of subcultural mile markers in the modern heavy music scene. An initial hardscrabble headlining outing in 2009 paved the way for multiple mainstage runs on the Vans Warped Tour; treks with Slash, Mötley Crüe, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine; a co-headlining run with Asking Alexandria; multiple US rock festivals, including Rock on the Range and Aftershock; and several appearances at the UK’s acclaimed Download Festival.

Black Veil Brides champion the isolated, dismissed and forgotten ever since the band’s inception. That spirit persists in the fully realized modern incarnation of the band. They’re an object of devotion and obsession for those who sing their anthems in unison, a diverse legion who refuse to surrender.

Black Veil Brides headlined a tour with VV and Dark Divine. I went to IN just to see VV because I was so heartbroken that I missed VV in Chicago, so I just had to leave the state to go see them. Black Veil Brides was a +1.

This was my first time seeing Black Veil Brides. I wanted to wear my BVB bandana, but it was dirty, so I wore my Andy Biersack jewelry. I kind of wish I saw them back when Jake and Ashley were in the band. Nonetheless they sounded good, and Jinx was amazing.

They performed new songs and old songs like Perfect Weapon and Knives and Pens. Andy can still scream those songs too. I'll go see them again if they come to Chicago.

October last year I went to see the Black mass tour as my first concert, and a year later it still remains the best concert I've been to! Although I was too nervous to try to get to the front (it being my first gig and all), I still saw it all and the atmosphere was simply electric. I saw them again at warped this year and not much has changed - both times they were amazing performers and really interacted with the crowds, so much so that it really is impossible to look away from them. With other concerts I've grown bored during slow songs or long sets, but bvb bring it with every song. I'll definitely be getting tickets next time they're nearby.

It was a long time ago since this concert was but i can still remember it like it was yesterday and im not kidding i can hear the music the people shouting and how amazing it was. It all began with me being home sick scrolling trough facebook when someone asked on a group how many was going to see Black Veil Brides in sweden. I didnt think it was true but when i figured out i screamed of happiness my mother asked me why i was screaming and when i told her Black Veil Brides where coming to sweden she asked when and where do you buy tickets cuz i was going to go to that concert no matter what. I love my parents. Some time went tickets were bought and i was just waiting for the day to come. I got up early and for the first time i was going to take the train alone. The first train was no problem but when i was going to get the second train i missed it. I saw the train go and i ran for my life and i missed it. I dont like it but i cried alot, i called my mom and she came with the car and told me she got tickets for the next train dad fixed them. My day was saved so i took the next train and met my goodfather who was going to keep an eye on me at the concert. I live far away from Stockholm and it was a long trip with first train and then the hour long trip with car. I was very nervous my first concert i could have gone to many concerts but i had promised myself to wait til i could go on a Black Veil Brides concert. We parked the car stood in the line. My heart was beating and all kinds of cool people was standing in line. We got in and hanged our jackets my goodfather found a place to sit and i was just walking around watching and thinking. Was this a dream am i really here? So the concert started Fearless Vampires where pretty good. Like a storm was very good. I saw people wasnt so active as i thought they would be on a concert but they where calm and i felt pretty safe. I saw something coverd and i guessed it was CC`s drumms. Like a storm stopped playing and then everyone started shouting but Black Veil Brides were not coming out. I waited and waited and i got more and more nervous i was so afraid i would fangirl wich i dont wanna do. I worried got more nervous when suddenly they stood there. Black Veil Brides a few meters from me playing their music and i couldnt believe it. I felt warm and happy and so calm like i couldnt be happier i didnt fangirl but when they played i sang with my heart and the whole room sang. I cant explain the feeling but i promise the whole room sang together and no one was pusing me or anything everyone were so nice and careful. I was happy even if it was just a dream it would be the best singing the songs heaaring people around me singing together as loud as they could see Andy,Jake,Jinxx,CC and Ashley playing/singing and they looked so happy. I dont think they saw me but i dont care i just think they gave us a great show and my first concert is a memory ill never forget. The most magical moment was when they got off the stage and the hole room was shouting BLACK VEIL BRIDES! Together and they came back and they asked what song and again the hole crowd shouted IN THE END! And when they played and everyone sang together, i may sound like a child or something else but i dont care that song and all people singing it, it was magical it was magical for me and i believe it was for the other people to at the concert. I love the music and i will forever do after the concert i was so full of energy i hadnt drinked anything to make me that energic but i was because of the hapiness and i was sure it wasnt a dream. It is one of my best memories and i never wanna forget it and im writing this 5 months after the concert and still i can feel the magical feeling when im thinking back and still cant believe i was there. If i could thank Black Veil Brides in person i would hug them for being so amazing and giving people so good memories, hope, and great music that make people like me happy.

Here’s the setlist from the first night of Black Veil Brides’ UK tour

Black Veil Brides appropriately marked Valentine’s Day 2023 by returning to a place they love so much: the UK.

The band kicked off their nine-date headline run last night, February 14, at Nick Rayns LCR, UEA in Norwich, before they continue their tour tonight (February 15) in Bristol, and then stop off in Birmingham, Nottingham, Newcastle, Glasgow, Manchester, Southampton and London on the almost-sold-out run.

BVB treated fans to a killer 17-song setlist featuring a host of career-spanning bangers, opening with Crimson Skies from 2021 album The Phantom Tomorrow , and wrapping up with classic single In The End. In-between, they naturally threw things back to fan-favourites like Knives And Pens, as well as bringing things to the present day by airing Devil from 2022 EP The Mourning.
