We enjoyed a Japanese feast on a [Yakatabune,] which cruised from Sumida River to Tokyo Bay in Tokyo. [The inside] of the boat was clean and new, and the restrooms were spotless. The cruise was very smooth, and I did not get seasick, which I normally do. We were able to take great pictures of the Sky Tree, Rainbow Bridge, and other spectacular views in Tokyo. The food was wonderful. We were very satisfied to enjoy Japanese cuisine such as sushi, eel, tempura, and Japanese soba noodles all at once. When we ordered Japanese sake, the waiter was kind enough to pour more SAKE even though it was already overflowing from my glass. I have never experienced anything like this before! In the future, I would like to bring my family back to this Edomae Kisen for another SAKE performance and a great Japanese cuisine,

The meals are delicious, with Japanese specialties such as sushi and tempura. I was a little worried about seasickness. The route is basically on the river, so it is not as wobbly as I imagined. The atmosphere is very good, it is recommended for a date and also suitable for family dining.

We ordered the Yakatabune dinner course which consist of a variety of small but delicious portions of delicious traditional Japanese food such as Unagi, Sushi, Soba, Miso soap etc. My favorite is the unagi, it is simply awesome and amazing! One of the coolest parts of this boat trip is that everything in the boat adds to the Japanese cultural experience. From the presentation of the food to the atmosphere of the restaurant, it really feels like you are experiencing a small part of Japanese culture! The boat also stops a few times throughout the trip, so there are plenty of opportunities to take some beautiful photos. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and would love to come again. Overall rating

Very good experience, unlimited food and drinks plus theres karaoke after dinner. Good with big groups though, the more people the more fun. Arigato for the nice experience!

The pier was easy to find, and there were several boats lined up and we were so excited and tried to ride each one, there was a man at the pier who finally told us which one was our boat. It was funny watching everyon ... e coming down the earlier boats because they all looked tipsy! When we got on board, the tables were already set with appetizers, and each table was assigned to a group. It was very interesting to see what each of the appetizers were, then we noticed a pot that had sukiyaki ready to cook!!! We tried the peach plum cocktail (all you can drink!) We got served yummy shrimp, fish, veg tempura, then the candle under the sukiyaki pot was lit, as the boat sailed towards Odaiba. There was a stop at at Odaiba for a chance at amazing cityscape photos. By the time the candle burned out the sukiyaki was done - and it was very good and tasted clean and fresh. Then there was a fun lion dance performed by one of the waiters - which was funny and quite entertaining. All in all a fun first time experience for a Yakatabune cruise - would recommend you try it if you've never done one before.

An unforgettable anniversary celebration

The boat staff provided great service, and the food and drinks were delicious! During the cruise, there were a couple times when we were allowed up on top of the boat, to look at the Tokyo Skytree and also near the Yokoh ... ama Marina area. And there was also a traditional Japanese "lion dance", the first of which I had ever seen in person. It was a unique opportunity to bring the boat guests and crew together. My wife and I were celebrating our 6-month anniversary, and so during the last part of the cruise, the MC came up to our table to invite us in front of everyone to announce why we were celebrating, and everyone cheered for us. It was a lovely memory for us, and I appreciated the opportunity so much.

3 Tokyo Yakatabune Boat Cruises: Enjoy an Unforgettable Dinner on a Traditional Japanese Boat

Planning on visiting Tokyo in the summertime? Yakatabune , or traditional houseboats, are a wonderful part of every Japanese summer . People don their yukata and get on an atmospheric boat to gaze at the stars, enjoy food and drink, and even watch performances or have a big summer party. We have compiled Tokyo's top three yakatabune experiences that let you get a real taste of summer in Tokyo!

Funasei: Sailing around Odaiba

Funasei: Sailing around Odaiba

For Japanese people, the word "yakatabune" often invokes the image of renting a houseboat. Recently, several companies have started offering yakatabune "passenger boats" that provide space for larger groups. Funasei is one such company.

dinner cruise tokyo

Their passenger course can be booked for two people and more - look forward to enjoying the beautiful scenery of Odaiba , the Sumida River , and Tokyo Skytree for 2 hours and 45 minutes! This extraordinary experience is available for 10,000 yen per person, a price that also includes all-you-can-eat-and-drink - both soft drinks and alcoholic beverages!

The Spectacular View from the Yakatabune's Observation Deck

The food is also excellent, offering an abundant choice of Japanese dishes such as tempura , sushi , and more. Please check the dates of this course on Funasei's official website .

dinner cruise tokyo

Stand on the deck and let the pleasant night wind cool you down as you gaze over the sparkling lights of Tokyo Bay - a scenery that is sure to make great memories! Funasei also offers a yukata rental between June and September, including getting dressed by a pro, for 4,500 yen per person. For the real Japanese summer experience, be sure to make use of that offer! (*Advance reservation is required. An English reservation page is available on the official homepage.)

Hamadaya: Explore Odaiba and Tokyo Skytree by Yakatabune

Hamadaya: Explore Odaiba and Tokyo Skytree by Yakatabune

Yakatabune Hamadaya has eight piers all around Tokyo, including Asakusa , Kitasenju, and Odaiba . This houseboat company also offers larger passenger boats that can be booked for groups of two or more.

dinner cruise tokyo

We especially recommend this course for smaller groups who look for a unique way of sightseeing in Tokyo! Choose between two routes: the Sumida River and Odaiba Route, and the Skytree Round Trip. If you want to see the magnificent Tokyo Skytree from up close, option 2 is the right course for you. (The sights on the route may change depending on the departure and arrival locations.)

dinner cruise tokyo

We recommend the course that starts at Kitasenju, because a shop called Mine Kitasenju offers yukata rental for a mere 3,240 yen per person there. Enjoy a full traditional set of yukata, obi (belt), pouch, and geta (sandals), put on by Japanese yukata pros!

Amazing Food on a Traditional Japanese Boat

On top of that, Hamadaya is also famous as "gourmet yakatabune." Every course comes with a rich selection of delicious food. From July to September, the " Summer Festival" is taking place, offering seasonal dishes, appetizers, and desserts (10,260 yen per person; price varies by date of departure). Seasonal cooking is an inherent part of Japanese cuisine , so this will surely be a great culinary experience! There are three types of yakatabune used on these cruises: the luxurious Hamadamaru #28, furnished with tables, and the 30-meter long Hamadamaru #18 with beautiful tatami are two of them. Said Hamadamaru #28 is the fleet's newest ship and has a wonderfully sophisticated atmosphere while keeping the charm of a traditional yakatabune. No matter which ship you board, look forward to relaxing on the promenade deck, freely accessible to every passenger. This deck offers a prime panoramic view of the beautiful night scenery of Tokyo.

Riverboat Mizuha: A Charming Choice for Smaller Groups

Riverboat Mizuha: A Charming Choice for Smaller Groups

The last yakatabune option that we want to introduce to you is called Mizuha. This is definitely the best choice for smaller groups of friends or family who want to enjoy their Japanese houseboat experience in a more private setting! The Riverboat Mizuha can be rented all by yourself to up to 12 people.

dinner cruise tokyo

The price for such a reservation starts at 45,000 yen (tax included) for 60 minutes and can be extended in intervals of 15 minutes. This price doesn't change, even if you board the ship with a full party of 10 people. This means that for 10 people, this 60-minute experience will cost each person 4,500 yen - which is an absolute steal. If you decide to cruise for two hours, the price rises to 89,000 yen in total. The best thing: you can freely decide where you want to sail your yakatabune! If you have a particular theme in mind, such as Tokyo's best sightseeing spots or routes with quiet waters, Mizuha will plan the perfect course for you!

Cozy Interior and a Cool, Open Deck

The ship's tables are movable, so you can either face them outward to enjoy the passing scenery or face them inward to enjoy each other's company. Both heater and air conditioning are installed, making your yakatabune trip incredibly cozy! Mizuha houseboats are also known for the observation deck at the front of the boat. Outward-facing tables and chairs invite a leisure chat while watching the scenery passing by.

dinner cruise tokyo

Food and drinks are not included in this plan, so you can just bring any things you'd like to eat and drink with you or book the catering service for an extra fee. Mizuha takes care of the trash, so there's no need to worry about cleaning up afterward either!

A yakatabune is a traditional Japanese boat that dates back to the Heian period (which was from 791-1185). Typically small, low-slung and privately-owned, yakatabune have a longstanding reputation as party boats, or "pleasure boats", ferrying merrymakers around bays and along rivers while they eat, drink and enjoy the passing scenery.

Identifiable by their festive red lanterns, these roofed boats are a common sight around Tokyo Bay, as well as on the Sumida River, especially on hot summer nights. Some can be booked for the exclusive use of a private group, while others offer space onboard a shared cruise. You'll also spot yakatabune boats in other parts of Japan, notably Kyoto , where they cruise around Arashiyama.

The Odaiba and Skytree course takes you on a dramatic sightseeing journey to emblematic landmarks like the Rainbow Bridge. Entertainment options are available only for private charter boats, making it perfect for groups, and the meals are driven by seasonality, with sashimi sourced directly from Tsukiji Market and fresh, crispy tempura.

This cruise is a match for anyone seeking elegance: The tables are covered in crisp white cloths, wine and cocktails are served in sparkling glasses, and a three-course a la carte dinner is served at a relaxed pace (no buffet here).

The Bateaux cruise is an experience to get dressed up for, where the dress code is semi-formal and dinner is accompanied by live music. The sunset can provide the perfect backdrop for pictures, and don't forget to snap a shot of the Statue of Liberty . Children younger than 6 are not permitted on this cruise, so expect a polished, for-adults atmosphere complete with creative cocktails and dancing under the stars. The Bateaux has rightfully earned a reputation for its fresh food; this three-course, plated menu includes several tempting a la carte options from a ravioli starter with crispy pancetta to osso bucco with cauliflower polenta.

City Cruises New York Signature Dinner Cruise

Price: From $109 Duration: 2.5 hours Standout perk: A live DJ gives this dinner cruise an extra dose of atmosphere.

Looking for a casual night of dining and dancing with the addition of a skyline backdrop? This dinner cruise offers just that. Set sail from Chelsea Piers in a climate-controlled boat along the Hudson and East rivers, admiring New York City landmarks like the Empire State Building . For dinner, indulge in a chef-prepared buffet with a wide range of options from Greek salad to oven-roasted salmon with miso to Caribbean jerk braised pork. If you're bringing a sweet tooth on board, be sure to check out the ample dessert station.

After snapping some pictures on the open-air deck, return to the cabin for cocktails from the cash bar, interactive games and upbeat music from the onboard DJ.

Those traveling with young kids will be pleased to know that infants younger than 3 cruise free – so feel free to bring your little ones along to enjoy the experience with you.

La Barca Cantina

La Barca Cantina dinner cruise with lights on boat at night.

Price: Varies Duration: 2 hours Standout perk: You'll find an extensive tequila and mezcal list on board to accompany the Mexican fare.

One criticism of New York dinner cruises is that they don't offer good value for money, but the "taco boat" challenges that critique with ceviche, tacos, churros, cocktails and skyline views for an affordable price. Climb aboard a yacht at Pier 81 to experience a youthful, modern interpretation of a dinner cruise – think: low lighting, couches for lounging and three bars, complete with Latin pop, salsa and dance music playing in the background. Raise a glass while the yacht sails south on the Hudson River to check out world-famous Manhattan skyline views.

La Barca Cantina also offers a bottomless brunch cruise with a DJ, as well as special events.

Choose between kicking back in the climate-controlled cabin or on the open-air deck throughout this evening cruise, which includes views of Manhattan landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. While this cruise doesn't offer dinner, one complimentary alcoholic beverage is included, and a cash bar offers additional drinks and snacks. Those traveling in a group should keep in mind: Tickets are slightly discounted for groups of 4 to 16.

Circle Line New York City Harbor Lights Cruise

Price: From $54 Duration: 2 hours Standout perk: This no-fuss, excellent-value cruise option has drinks and snacks available for purchase on board.

When you're craving panoramic views rather than a three-course meal, choose the Circle Line's Harbor Lights cruise departing from Pier 83. A live guide provides narration and historical context for what you're seeing. As the sun sets behind New Jersey, watch the glow of the sinking sun reflect in the windows of skyscrapers.

Food from the onboard cafe – like salads, sandwiches and snacks – as well as beer, wine and cocktails at the bar are available for purchase. This is an ideal situation for groups with varying levels of hunger and thirst. Sit alfresco in the breeze or indoors in the climate-controlled cabin – it's up to you.

Non-English-speaking guests can download the Circle Line app for narration available in several languages; just be sure to bring your own headset.

This Dinner Cruise Is The Most Romantic Way To See The Sunset In California

S an Diego is a romantic city. In fact, it has a reputation for being one of the top U.S. cities for a destination wedding, rivaling some of the most underrated beach settings in the world . It almost can't help itself, with postcard-perfect skylines in all directions, exceptional dining, and one of California's most photographed beaches a short drive away. While there are many options, one standout romantic activity is canoodling while taking in the changing colors of the sky at sunset. This effect is amplified when it takes place on water, with a peaceful lull of the boat, a savory meal, and a drink in hand. Fortunately, there are private charters in San Diego to make this possible.

While the attractions, culture, palm-tree lined coastline, and temperate weather provide endless daytime activities, when the sun goes down, it's all about an unforgettable dinner cruise that aims to capture the sunset in a unique and memorable way. So, grab your sweetheart and board a boat to take in the most romantic views San Diego, and perhaps all of California, has to offer.

Romance On The San Diego Bay

A few companies offer romantic jaunts along the San Diego coastline. One option is to board a Flagship yacht, on which you'll be greeted with a welcome glass of champagne. Sip while you meander around the yacht, and then take your place at your private table. As you watch the land travel by, you'll be served a freshly prepared meal. Glistening lights of the San Diego skyline act as a backdrop while you take in the sites of both the north and south harbor — and, of course, the setting sun in the west. After dinner, you can continue the romance vibe with dancing or a stroll on the observation deck. Similarly, you can book the San Diego Premier Dinner Cruise, which offers a full-bar, seated meal at a private table, after-dinner music, and open-air rooftop decks.

While the sunset may take center stage, the distinct features of the San Diego coastline will challenge its title for top prize. Watch for the profiles of historic ships, the current Navy fleet, and massive aircraft carriers docked around the bay. You'll also catch views of the gorgeous Coronado waterfront. While Coronado Island is spectacular as a day trip , it's sprinkled with a bit of magic when the sun goes down. Seek out the Coronado Bay Bridge, and the home of the Navy SEALS at the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado as you continue your tour.

Continue The Romance On Land

While a dinner cruise tops the list of romantic ways to see the California coastline, your interlude doesn't have to stop there. Once back on land, take a 15-20 minute stroll from the bay to the historic downtown Gaslamp District for a nightcap. The next day, enjoy the waterfront from land. "The Embarcadero" seaside path will lead you past the Star of India, the world's oldest active sailing ship, and other ships at the Maritime Museum. A few piers away, you'll find the U.S.S. Midway Museum, an aircraft carrier that features a deck loaded with military aircraft. It's often staffed by volunteers, most of whom served aboard the vessel. Of course, no romantic stroll along The Embarcadero would be complete without a photo at the iconic 25-foot tall "Embracing Peace" statue. Also known as "Unconditional Surrender," this massive piece of art stands as a symbol of the defeat of Japan in 1945.

Expanding your exploration of the bay area, you can catch a different view from Harbor Island jutting into the water from the mainland, and the Polynesian-themed Shelter Island. Also within view is the "Birthplace of Naval Aviation," the North Island Naval Air Station, where you might catch a glimpse of its aircraft carriers and 23 flight squadrons. Whatever path you take through the San Diego waterfront, the captivating sights, both on and off the water, invite romance at every turn.

Grand Island dinner, lunch cruises show off gorgeous views near Pictured Rocks

Grand Island cruises

Grand Island lunch and dinner cruises take off from the Munising area and circle the island in Lake Superior. Photo provided by Paddling Michigan. Paddling Michigan

MUNISING, MI - Each year, repeat travelers and new visitors alike make the pilgrimage to the Upper Peninsula’s Munising area so they can marvel at the beautiful cliff colors found along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

At the western edge of that area sits the much less-visited Grand Island. It is just offshore in Lake Superior. And here’s a little secret: Because the area’s geology is the same as nearby Pictured Rocks, Grand Island sports the same gorgeous rock colors and expansive views of our biggest Great Lake.

One cool way to see all that wild beauty is to book a lunch or dinner cruise around Grand Island. Paddling Michigan offers these unique on-the-water getaways that combine motoring around this fascinating spot and hearing about its history from the boat captain. It’s a guided tour on the water, and it’s offered all summer and into early fall. You can see all the details and book a Grand Island cruise here.

“We go completely around the island and there’s really a lot of history,” said Bill Duckwall, owner of the longtime Paddling Michigan vacation and tour business based near Pictured Rocks. “That island is the same size as Manhattan island in New York. And there are some really neat cliffs and caves.”

But unlike the home of Wall Street, Grand Island is packed with forests, wildlife - including black bears - and crisscrossed with mountain biking and hiking trails. It also has an historic lighthouse on the north end that is on private property and can only be seen by a water tour.

Duckwall’s team runs two big catamarans for its Grand Island cruises - the Mishosha and the Uncle Ducky. Both vessels are Coast Guard-inspected and certified. The cruises board next to the Duck Pond Restaurant and Beer Garden , which is about 3 miles west of Munising on state highway M-28.

Reserving a spot for a lunch or dinner cruise allows you to select a complimentary meal from the restaurant on site. “You can enjoy your food before or after your cruise, or take your meal on the cruise boat,” staff said.

Each cruise-and-meal session lasts about 2.5 hours. The Grand Island cruise boats are also available for private charters.

“People love this tour,” Duckwall said. “They get to see a lot of the same geology as Pictured Rocks.”

Planning a Munising adventure? Check out more fun options from Duckwall’s Paddling Michigan. These include a big list of all-inclusive vacation packages for hikers, paddlers, campers and more. The group specializes in yurt vacation rentals and have several that offer great views of Lake Superior. You can find out more on the Paddling Michigan website here. Another great spot for vacation tips and Munising itineraries is the local visitor’s bureau website.

Grand Island National Recreation Area

Want to know more about Michigan’s Grand Island? Here are some highlights from the U.S. Forest Service:

  • Grand Island is part of the Hiawatha National Forest
  • It sits in Lake Superior, about a half-mile from the Munising mainland
  • You can take bikes to the area to ride the trails, but eBikes are not allowed
  • It’s about 8 miles long and encompasses about 13,500 acres
  • Its stunning North Lighthouse is on privately-owned land, but can be viewed from the water. The Forest Service has this to say about this maritime beacon: “Situated atop a 175 foot cliff on Grand Island’s north end, this lighthouse has been identified as the highest lighthouse above sea level in the United States.”
