Ryan Adams has announced he is canceling his 2023 solo tour as he navigates "a relentless spell of illness."

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Adams shared that his sobriety has been his "rock" through these trying times.

"To my dear fans, First of all, THANK YOU. Thank you for making all the shows last year and this so incredibly special. It’s been all the dreams at once and even on the toughest of nights you have made it a dream," Adams' statement began.

He continued, "Behind the scenes however I have been struggling with my health. My sobriety has been my anchor and as year two approaches I thank God for that clarity. I always give the shows everything I have and as anyone who saw the solo tour last year knows I play 3 hours or longer. I have to play the long game here so I can keep playing for you as long as I can."

"For me to be at my best, I have to recover from what has been a relentless spell of illness. As a result my solo shows for this year are postponed. We will reschedule as many of those shows as possible for 2024. I am so sorry to all the folks who have already bought tickets and we're excited for the solo shows. I love you all. Thank you for being my rock."

Adams signed off his statement, which he also shared on Instagram, with "XO DRA."

The musician was set to kick off his solo tour at Evansville's Victory Theatre on Sept. 5.

The "Wonderwall" singer revealed in the past that he was addicted to painkillers. Adams shared that he didn't remember marrying his now ex-wife, "This Is Us" star Mandy Moore, due to being under the influence.

"When someone told me we got married I thought they were joking. Then I realized how many painkillers I was taking. Honestly there weren’t enough to numb the shock. Gollygooops," Adams tweeted in 2018, according to People. The post has since been deleted, and Adams subsequently apologized.

The Twitter rant was in response to an interview in which Moore opened up to Glamour about her seven-year marriage to the singer.

"I couldn’t control what happened to my immediate family, but I could control starting my own," Moore told Glamour in 2018. "Not the smartest decision. I didn’t choose the right person."

Moore also said she felt "spiritually and fundamentally stuck leading up to the divorce" and that her "career and friendships suffered for it."

"I don’t feel guilty for it. I don’t fault myself for it," Moore said of the divorce, which was finalized in 2016. "When people said, ‘I’m sorry,’ I was like, ‘No. Sorry would have been had I stayed in a very unhealthy situation.’ I didn’t. I found my way out. And when I did, things opened back up again."

One year later in 2019, Moore and seven other women accused Adams of manipulative behavior and emotional abuse. At the time, he denied the allegations. However, after reflecting for a year and getting sober, the singer penned a lengthy essay in which he sought forgiveness for his past behavior.

Adams faced another allegation in 2019 in a follow-up report by the New York Times, stating the FBI opened a criminal investigation into whether Adams had an inappropriate text relationship with a 14-year-old that allegedly continued until she was 16. Later that year, the FBI closed its inquiry into Adams — who had denied the allegation — after having "found no evidence of a crime," according to his lawyer.

Following the scandals, Adams released his first two albums in 2022, and started to tour again.

Ryan Adams Books More Tour Dates in Post-Scandal Comeback Bid

Following some successful east coast tour dates in May, Adams is moving on to markets like Chicago and Atlanta as he looks to reestablish viability as a live artist three years after allegations of sexual misconduct put his career in limbo.

In a further test of whether he will be able to pick up his career somewhere in the vicinity of where it left off amid misconduct allegations three years ago, Ryan Adams has announced a tour of eight cities in the Midwest and South, following up on a run of five cities in the Northeast he completed in May.

The mini-tour of mid-sized halls begins Oct. 14 with a stop at Atlanta’s 2,600-seat Tabernacle and wraps up in the almost identically sized Stephens Auditorium in Ames, Iowa Oct. 22. Dates in-between include Chicago’s Chicago Theatre, Minneapolis’ State Theatre, Milwaukee’s Riverside Theater. St. Louis’ Factory, Louisville’s Palace and Asheville’s Thomas Wolfe.

While an eight-city tour announcement might be a blip in most artists’ careers, it’s significant for Adams in that he has spent the last three years as pretty much persona non grata in the music industry, by his own admission, following a 2019 New York Times article that alleged sexual misconduct and emotional manipulation in his dealings with women, particularly among female artists he worked with.

These new bookings, along with the five shows he completed in the east and one he has coming up at Los Angeles’ Orpheum July 22, are his bid to prove that a sizable portion of his audience has stuck with him despite the allegations that left his career in limbo for three years.

Popular on Variety

These newly announced shows go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. PT. Like the other shows Adams has done this year, they will be solo performances, likely with a running time similar to the two hours and 40 minutes that Adams averaged in his east coast gigs.

“The word of mouth from the first leg of the tour was so good that promoters came to us,” Richard Jones, Adams’ manager, said in a statement. “Ryan hasn’t toured since 2019 and there seems to be a voracious appetite to see him perform live.”  Jones is putting the shows together along with Adams’ ICM agent, Mike Hayes.

Although Adams lost his distribution deal with Blue Note Records in the wake of the 2019 allegations, that label’s president, Don Was, has continued to work with him and recorded Adams’ sold-out Carnegie Hall show in May for a live album expected to come out later this year.

In a story earlier this month titled “Can Ryan Adams Be a Rock Star Again? With a New Team and Return to Concerts, Singer Looks to Move Past Sexual Misconduct Allegations,” Variety talked with Jones and crisis PR specialist Howard Bragman about their efforts to put Adams back into the spotlight.

In that story, the singer’s new manager admitted there had been a reluctance by venues and promoters to book Adams, but said the Carnegie show broke the logjam. “I think the truth is, somebody had to do it first, and then people noticed and realized that it was successful, and he was obviously in an extremely good place personally and could deliver such a good, extensive show,” Jones said. “What’s happened, noticeably, since we’ve completed those shows is the amount of promoters across the world that have now contacted us and are offering dates in venues and wanting to book Ryan.”

Adams’ reps put the total gross for the five east coast shows at around $600,000.

Previously, in a Los Angeles magazine profile last year, Adams — who had five top 10 albums in the Billboard 200 between 2007-2017 — had said he was in danger of becoming destitute as a result of being ostracized by the music industry.

With the apparent success of the east coast shows, Adams looked to join a list of entertainers like Louis C.K. that have been able to resume their careers — with practical limitations — after becoming #MeToo emblems, with some former fans lost forever and others saying it’s time to extend forgiveness or contending that the performer was railroaded all along.

Adams’ itinerary can be found here . The new dates:

Firstly I will say I love Ryan Adams, but I was very disappointed in this show. The opening statement given before he came on made him look like a prima dona that would excuse him from failing. No flashing lights from cameras/phones....then the first song was accompanied by ....flashing stage lights!!!

As to the performance, I expected some subtlety, as he demonstrates in many of his beautiful lyrical songs... but was greeted with and onslaught of driving rock, a wall of sound with Adams sreaming like a Bruce Springsteen sound alike.....walked out before the end.

Ryan is good as usual

He did a very powerful concert, with strong electrical sound.

To be honest I prefer more acoustic tune but it's only a personal opinion and the concert was good anyway.

Corn Exchange has a high acoustics level sound but seats disposition is terrible and I really struggled to see the stage and not the back head of the person in front of me. Worse of that, temperature in the back and top places became very high (hot air go up) and many attendees went away before concert finished.

So, Ryan 4 stars out 5, Corn Exchange 2 stars out 5.

I've seen Ryan Adams play Brisbane either with the cardinals or solo. The Tivoli in my opinion has always been my favourite place to see him.

The music varied from the cardinal days (sweet illusions) to the more recent songs of Do you still love me...

He was more talkative this time round which was a real treat. Loved the improv Brisbane Gothic Girl and his story during my winding wheel.

I think my favourite songs that night were When the Stars go Blue and of course Wonderwall.

He played til midnight and whilst it was a work night, it was worth the tired eyes and sore head....

It was great to come from a gig just welling with conversation, smiles and a few vinos....

Ryan Adams Postpones Solo Tour Dates to Focus on His Health

'for me to be at my best, i have to recover from what has been a relentless spell of illness,' adams shared.

Ryan Adams is stepping back from the spotlight.

In a message to his "dear fans" via his Facebook page on Monday, the Cardinals frontman shared that he has been struggling with his "health" as he approaches his second year of sobriety.

"First of all, thank you," Adams started his post. "Thank you for making all the shows last year and this so incredibly special. It's been all the dreams at once, and even on the toughest of nights you have made it a dream."

"Behind the scenes, however, I have been struggling with my health," he wrote. "My sobriety has been my anchor and as year two approaches, I thank God for that clarity."

Adams went on to explain that because his shows typically last "3 hours or longer," he has to take time to recover. "For me to be at my best, I have to recover from what has been a relentless spell of illness."

View post on Twitter

As a result, Adams said his solo shows have been postponed and (most) will be re-scheduled.

However, the musician clarified, the Cardinals tour remains set as scheduled, noting, "Rest assured... I aim to be in top fighting condition for The Cardinals fall tour and hope to see some of you there."

Ryan Adams’ tour canceled after misconduct allegations

  • Copy Link copied

NEW YORK (AP) — Singer Ryan Adams’ upcoming tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland is canceled following reports of psychological abuse and sexual misconduct.

The cancellation comes after The New York Times recently reported the misconduct allegations against Adams made by multiple women, including his ex-wife Mandy Moore. Seven women have claimed Adams offered to help them with their music careers but then turned things sexual, sometimes becoming verbally abusive. Adams has denied the accusations.

SJM Concerts says full refunds to ticketholders from authorized outlets will be processed by the end of the day Monday. Purchasers should allow time for the transaction to appear in their accounts.

The 44-year-old musician’s tour was scheduled to begin March 30.

Live Review: Ryan Adams – 19th April 2023 – London Palladium, London, UK

Photo: EMI Music Australia

Last night, legendary singer songwriter Ryan Adams returned to his self proclaimed home away from home – London – to perform the last of his solo UK tour at the Palladium in Soho. It’s the star’s first stretch of performances in the UK since 2018, after cancelling his show at the Royal Albert Hall in 2019. His return is a potent and personal affair, with just the man himself onstage. Surrounded by his instruments, the intimacy is almost necessary, both for Adams and his fans.

The night officially begins with fan favourite Sweet Carolina . Ryan’s strained vocals feel even more vulnerable in this solo setting, and the lonely feeling – for the most part – is reciprocated by the crowd. He admitted early on that he and his team were nervous about the London show, the singer suffering from a mild cold to name one such issue, but nothing revealed as such. A few technical difficulties, and a couple of unfunny heckles from the audience sent Ryan on comedic tangents, showing that he’s no stranger to on stage banter. One man was singled out in the front row for looking ‘judgy’. “I hope he’s the reviewer” Ryan joked, before sarcastically adding “God forbid I do anything to ruin my perfect career”.

In a truly intimate moment, he alluded to the controversies he had been through in the past few years, but mainly he spoke of his deceased brother Chris, who died while Ryan was on tour in 2017. The heartfelt speech was followed by To Be Without You , a song that he says has changed meaning since it was first released. “It’s still about a chick though,” Ryan prefaced, “my brother would understand”. Lighter moments littered the set; Ryan pretending he had magical powers, wowing the audience as the house lights came on; a wise crack about not being allowed to have a rear view mirror on his piano, as he can’t drive in the UK. All these things melded with the songs, creating a well-rounded evening of sadness and joy.

Covers such as Moon River, Don’t Look Back In Anger, London Calling and Wonderwall showed Ryan’s influences, while alternative versions of some of his biggest songs – such as Gimme Something Good and New York, New York – showed his fluidity. Even songs he isn’t so fond of, such as Answering Bell , were played for the audience’s enjoyment alone. “I hate this song,” he began, “and I wish I never wrote it. I’m gonna judge you for liking it”. Unfortunately for Ryan, there wasn’t a disappointed person in the house.

Ryan Adams has lashed out at his former friend, country star Jason Isbell , following his recent concert at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Armed with his acoustic guitar, Adams took the stage at the 600-seat theatre, singing: “This concert’s a lot like if you went to see Jason Isbell, but all the songs are really good and you didn’t leave, and it didn’t sounded like somebody was yelling at you for two fucking hours”

  • READ MORE:  “Six security guards come, and they’re like, ‘Sir, you need to come with us’”: Deryck Whibley has a “bone to pick” with Don Henley after he was thrown out of an Eagles show for filming

He also threw shade at Isbell for his “suspiciously Molly Hatchet-sounding guitar” before continuing, “Fuck you Jason Isbell.”

Despite the acrimony, the pair used to be close friends over a decade ago. Adams played a pivotal role in getting Isbell sober and to rehab in 2012 and Isbell’s first performance after rehab was as an opening act for Adams. Isbell was originally scheduled to produce Adam’s 2013 album Southeastern before Dave Cobb took over due to scheduling conflicts.

Their friendship began to unravel in 2019 when the The New York Times ran a #MeToo piece on Adams that alleged harassing and abusive behaviour from Adams towards numerous women.

“Adams dangled career opportunities while simultaneously pursuing female artists for sex. In some cases, they said, he would turn domineering and vengeful, jerking away his offers of support when spurned, and subjecting women to emotional and verbal abuse, and harassment in texts and on social media,” the article reported.

The musician was also accused of having sexual conversations with a 14-year-old fan in 2013 and exposing himself during video calls. Adams eventually issued a public apology, along with a denial of some of the allegations, stating: “I would never have inappropriate interactions with someone I thought was underage. Period.”

I am not a perfect man and I have made many mistakes. To anyone I have ever hurt, however unintentionally, I apologize deeply and unreservedly. — Ryan Adams (@TheRyanAdams) February 13, 2019

Come 2020, Isbell – who previously said he believed the women who accused Adams – told GQ that he no longer kept in touch with the singer: “The situation with Ryan and with the Times story made me rethink my friendships with other men and how much we’re actually sharing with each other. And I think it really helped me redefine, you know, what kind of a friend I want to be to somebody,” he said.

‘notebook’ director regrets revealing ryan gosling and rachel mcadams fight.

LOS ANGELES - JUNE 4: Actress Rachel McAdams (left) and Actor Ryan Gosling accept the award for ... [+] Best Kiss for The Notebook onstage during the 2005 MTV Movie Awards at the Shrine Auditorium on June 4, 2005 in Los Angeles, California. Nick Cassavetes is sorry about revealing an on-set fight between The Notebook stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.

Gosling and McAdams star as the 1940s versions of Noah and Allie in the 2004 classic romantic drama. Their story is told through flashback sequences when the modern-day Noah (James Garner) reads stories from their romantic past in a notebook to Allie (Gena Rowlands). Allie, sadly, is suffering from dementia and living in a nursing home and Noah—who goes by Duke—is trying to spark her memory.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Tuesday about the 20th anniversary of The Notebook , Cassavetes owns up to a mistake he made 10 years ago in a VH1 interview when he talked about a huge fight between Gosling and McAdams while on the set.

"The last time I did an interview on this thing, I spilled the beans on that. I regretted it," Cassavetes told EW . "Everyone's like, why are you telling that? I'm like, I don't know. It caught me on a bad day, but if they're around, I apologize to you guys. I shouldn't have spilled the beans."

In the VH1 interview (via EW ), Cassavetes said, “Maybe I’m not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not. And Ryan came to me, and there [are] 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, ‘Nick come here.’ He’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, ‘Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off-camera with me?’ ‘I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.’”

The situation led to a huge blowout between the two stars in a separate room. Cassavetes said he and one of the film’s producers were also in the room.

“They started screaming and yelling at each other. I walked out … And it got better after that, you know? They had it out … I think Ryan respected her for standing up for her character and Rachel was happy to get that out in the open,” Cassavetes told VH1 . “The rest of the film wasn’t smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing.”

Some ‘Notebook’ Plotlines Became Reality

The irony of the fight between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams during the making of The Notebook is that the couple began dating in real life from 2005-07, Nick Cassavetes noted for EW .

"They fell in love, and became a wonderful, wonderful fiery couple. I still think they got lots of respect and love for each other, but in the beginning, it wasn't like that," Cassavetes, 65, told EW . “But they're both the greatest actors in the world, and some of the things that I asked them to play were so difficult, and there was nothing they couldn't do."

Sadly, another plotline became reality when Gena Rowlands—who is Nick Cassavetes' mother in real life—has been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

"I got my mom to play older Allie, and we spent a lot of time talking about Alzheimer's and wanting to be authentic with it, and now, for the last five years, she's had Alzheimer's," Cassavetes told EW of Rowlands, who is 94. “She's in full dementia. And it's so crazy — we lived it, she acted it, and now it's on us."

Nick Cassavetes’ father and Rowlands’ husband—late legendary director John Cassavetes—died in 1989 at age 59.

Eight-hole playoff finalizes Monday qualifiers for Rocket Mortgage

Monday Qualifiers

Change Text Size

At one of the more dramatic Monday qualifiers in recent memory, it took eight playoff holes to determine the final two of four available spots in this week's Rocket Mortgage Classic. The reward is well worth it: a PGA TOUR tee time.

Brandon Berry, Angelo Giantsopoulos, Danny Guise and Nick Bienz advanced from a 5-for-4 playoff, with the latter two earning spots on the eighth extra hole at The Orchards Golf Club in Washington, Michigan. They'll advance to compete at this week's Rocket Mortgage Classic; Beau Breault was the odd man out after all five players carded 7-under 65 in Monday's qualifier.

Berry and Guise have shown a propensity for success at Monday qualifiers in recent times; this marks Berry's third successful Monday qualifier on TOUR this season, while Guise Monday qualified into four TOUR events a year ago. Giantsopoulos and Bienz will each make their PGA TOUR debut in "Motown."

Five years ago, Doc Redman finished runner-up at the Rocket Mortgage Classic as a Monday qualifier, earning Special Temporary Membership on the PGA TOUR. The Clemson alum was competing on PGA TOUR Canada at the time, and he parlayed a qualifying 62 at The Orchards into a four-year stint as a TOUR member. This week's qualifiers will aim to follow a similar path; Redman showed them it's possible, after all.

In all, 59 players competed for four spots in this week's field. Read below for more information on the four Rocket Mortgage Classic qualifiers.

TV legend Ryan Moloney quits iconic Neighbours role as Toadie after 30 years

Neighbours icon Ryan Moloney, who has played Toadie Rebecchi in the Australian soap since 1995, has announced his departure.

The actor, 44, has been a regular fixture on Ramsay Street for decades , and will continue to play a part behind-the-scenes as he takes on a new role as director.

Family-man Jarrod (or Toadfish to his pals) first arrived as a troublesome teen at Erinsborough High, always involved in a get-rich quick scheme or plotting against the school – much to the dislike of teacher Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne), who would later play a maternal role in his life.

The loud-mouthed Rebecchi family soon moved into Ramsay Street, defining the next big era of Neighbours that followed the serial’s golden years in the late 80s.

Announcing his departure this morning (27th June), Ryan said: ‘After 30 years playing Toadie, I will be leaving Ramsay Street.  I can’t tell you what is happening to the character – maybe I could be the next Jim Robinson. Or maybe I’ll be the next Harold Bishop and keep popping back over the years.’

Publicity photo of Ryan Moloney as Toadie in Neighbours

He continued: ‘Although I won’t be bringing you our fantastic storylines from in front of the camera, I will be bringing them to you from the other side, behind the camera

‘I’ve just started director training and have just finished filming my first episode as director – so I really hope that you enjoy that.’

One of his biggest stories came in 2003 when he accidentally drove off a cliff on his wedding day to Dee Bliss (Madeleine West). Presumed dead for best part of the fifteen years that followed, Dee then turned up on his doorstep and announced she was alive – with their teenage daughter in tow.

Susan shows Toadie a letter in Neighbours

By this point he’d settled with third wife Sonya (Eve Morey), adopted her son Callum (Morgan Baker) and fathered their daughter Nell (then Scarlett Anderson).

However, a bigger twist would soon follow when it was revealed ‘Dee’ was actually her estranged identical twin sister Andrea who was plotting to scam him out of thousands.

Despite discovering Andrea’s true identity, he went onto conceive son Hugo with her, and when she returned – baby in tow – her wicked mother Heather (Kerry Armstrong) plotted to kill Sonya.

Toadie holds a dying Sonya in his arms at the beach in Neighbours

Sadly, Sonya would soon pass away from terminal ovarian cancer in an emotional two-hander episode , and wouldn’t live to see the moment the real Dee showed up on the doorstep of No. 30 and announced she actually was alive.

After a tense showdown on a cliff top (déjà vu anyone?), Andrea was sent to prison.

In more recent years, he formed a key part of the show’s ‘finale’ after it was axed by British broadcaster Channel 5 in 2022.

Toadie and Melanie's wedding in Neighbours

The feature-length episode, which saw the return of Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Margot Robbie to their former counterparts, centred on Toadie’s fourth wedding, this time to Melanie Pearson (Lucinda Cowden).

Little did they know at the time, Amazon Freevee would pick the show up fourteen months later, and after a time jump we saw Toadie marry again – with his nuptials to businesswoman Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou) providing a meaty cliffhanger to the end of the much-anticipated first episode.

Concluding his statement, Ryan said: ‘Thank you all for the love that you have shown me and Toadie over the years. Three decades, in fact.  I’ll miss you, I’ll miss him, and I’ll miss Erinsborough… but whatever you do, make sure you don’t miss what’s going to happen on Ramsay Street.’

Toadie Rebecchi stood in-between wives Terese and Melanie in Neighbours

Executive producer Jason Herbison added: ‘Toadie is an Australian television icon and Ryan is Ramsay Street royalty. The street won’t be the same without seeing him every week however there’s every chance he will pop back in the future.

‘In the meantime, we’re thrilled to support his directing ambitions and can’t wait for viewers to see how Toadie’s season-long story arc plays out. Ryan’s been instrumental in the journey and has blown us away with his performance.’

Hugo, Toadie, Nell and Terese in Neighbours

Just how Toad will depart remains to be seen, but we do know his on-screen departure at the end of the year will coincide with Ryan’s upcoming UK nationwide tour – Toad on the Road .

During a chat to publicise the events, he exclusively told Metro.co.uk : ‘I’ll have to be honest the British fanbase is our largest, so in terms of getting other jobs the UK is a wonderful place for me to work,’

‘I’m kind of hoping that I can get a bit more work and do a bit more drama and a bit more television over there in time to come.’

When asked at the time how he will depart the show, he joked: ‘he dies actually’.

AJR to take a new, adventurous stride in music during Columbus show

It's time for Columbus residents to get way less sad, because the entertainment is here. Multiplatinum-selling band AJR is coming to Nationwide Arena on Friday, June 28, and they have big plans.

The band of three brothers, Adam, Jack and Ryan Met, said they are thrilled to be returning to the central-Ohio city.

"Columbus is great, and I don't say that about every single city," said Jack, lead singer and the youngest brother in AJR. "We've played (at) so many venues there, and the crowds have always been like truly some of the best, and I know a lot of other artists say that when they come through."

Photos: Check out the scenes at Buckeye Country Superfest 2024 at Ohio Stadium

AJR kicked off "The Maybe Man" tour April 2, and the brothers have had an incredible time traveling on their first-ever arena tour, which has already taken them to 23 different cities and 18 different states across the U.S.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

"It's truly been the No. 1 goal of this band to do an arena tour ," said Ryan. "We're really big fans of Broadway and magic and puppetry and very nerdy stuff — we figured out a way to combine all of that into a show, to be able to do it on an arena level with a sandbox that big and a budget that big has been a dream come true for us."

Adam, Jack and Ryan said they wanted to use their fandom and passion for the theatrical-to-great effect, and kept that in mind every step of the way during the construction of their album. They no longer view them (the songs) as independent tracks, but one interconnected staging of a story.

'Please Please Please': Singer Sabrina Carpenter bringing 'Short N' Sweet' tour to Nationwide Arena

"A lot of this stuff in the albums might seem a little random," said Ryan. "The little musical cues are because we know, 'Oh, we're gonna take a bow there,' or because we're gonna have a crazy huge shadow-magic moment here in this song. I think we began to think about it all as one all-encompassing art piece."

The indie-pop band's ultimate goal of creating such an experience was a simple: Complete an uninterrupted escape.

"It's so easy to get kind of wrapped up in every single stressor you have in your life," said Jack. "We thought it would be so great if you can kind of come to our show for like an hour 45 and truly forget that those things exist."

AJR said they wanted to ensure that this encounter remained as adventurous and unpredictable as possible.

"It's really a place where you can kind of be in constant wonder of what's going to happen next," said Jack.

"We were a little bit worried before putting it out that we didn't have enough bangers on the album, that it was a little bit too emotional of an album," said Ryan. "And we... we reckoned with it and we kind of realized this is exactly what we're feeling; we have to be true to ourselves."

This truth paid off, as Ryan and Jack have seen from their meet and greets with fans, "The Maybe Man" brought forth a heightened level of camaraderie and empathy between them and their audience.

Music lineups: What shows are coming to Columbus this summer?

"They feel so comfortable now divulging stuff that happened with their parents or really serious (stuff), you know, like traumatic stuff," said Ryan. "It's been an incredible relationship we opened up."

Opening up and sharing was a strong theme throughout the album , as the brothers wrote and recorded while their father got sick, eventually dying from cancer.

"Our dad got sick and the next day, we wrote our song. God is really real about that," said Ryan.

The band had to shift from what they knew, no longer writing in hindsight, but writing in the heat of the moment.

"It's a lot harder to write those kinds of songs because when you're feeling something really deeply, the last thing you want is to feel it 10 times more," said Ryan.
