What to expect on a Disney Wonder cruise in Australia

No one warned me about the affliction that would strike me when we boarded our Disney Wonder cruise in Australia. There wasn’t any word on social media, in the mainstream media, or in reviews. It started innocently enough on day one with the simple humming of  ‘Whistle While You Work’, but it wasn’t long before I had a bad case of Disney earworm-it is and couldn’t stop smiling.

And it got more severe by the minute. There was nowhere to hide; it was all through the ship. Then my wife and 20-year-old son caught it as well. Once we were onboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship in Australia, we couldn’t ‘Let it Go’ and were powerless to resist the Disney magic.

Was it brought on by our favourite Disney tunes playing throughout the ship?  Or the other passengers decked out in all manner of Disney merch, from t-shirts and princess dresses to an amazing assortment of Mickey Ears? No, I think it started the minute we walked onto the ship.

Boarding Disney Wonder in Brisbane seemed like a regular embarkation until we got onboard and entered the central atrium to the sound of applause and a grand announcement:

“Please welcome the Templeman family!”

Goofy was waving at us from the stairs, crew members (who are called cast members, the same as at the parks) were beaming at us and ready to help with directions to the nearest restaurant for lunch. Everyone got this special treatment and grand welcome when they boarded. It may sound a little cheesy but it genuinely made us feel special and (even more) excited about the cruise.

It had been years since we’d been to Disney World in Orlando which meant our son was now an adult, but we could feel the wonder of Disney Wonder winning us over from the moment we got onboard. If this was a ‘standard’ Disney Cruise welcome they had us at ‘hello’!

Disney Wonder cabins

So, let’s start with ‘The Bare Necessities’ on Disney Wonder in Australia. Firstly, Disney Wonder is considered a mid-sized cruise ship with 875 staterooms designed with families in mind. Disney Wonder cabins come in multiple configurations that cater to up to seven passengers per room in a suite and five in a Navigator Cove Balcony Cabin.

All of the other cabins on board, like our veranda stateroom, cater for four passengers and have a unique split shower/toilet area with the toilet and a vanity basin in a separate room. There’s also a thick curtain that divides the bedroom/lounge to allow for extra privacy, a bonus whether you’re travelling with little kids or a big one like we were.

Disney Wonder - Verandah Stateroom

We have been cruising as a family since our son was three and we all agreed that this was the best and most practical cabin we had sailed in. When our son was little, we used to have trouble getting him to go to sleep in a shared cabin. Now that he’s an adult, he stays up much later than his parents so the curtain came in handy. Having a toilet with a sink in a separate room meant the logistics of sharing a room were much better as we had different spaces to get ready, brush our teeth, etc. The cabin was also very spacious compared to others we’ve been in.

One thing worth noting if you’re a light sleeper; we were in a (locked off) interconnecting cabin and did have additional noise seeping through the door. This didn’t bother us, but you may like to avoid these cabins if you are sensitive to noise or like to sleep in. Interconnecting cabins have this issue on every ship, of course, but being a Disney cruise, your odds of having excited little ones next door like we did is higher.

Disney Wonder deck plan

The Disney Wonder deck plan is laid out over 11 beautiful Art Nouveau decks with six cabin decks and five mixed-use decks consisting of bars, restaurants, lounges and pools. The best cabins are midship away from theatres and the pool deck. We found it easy to get around Disney Wonder, with good passenger flow and a sensible layout. It’s one of the few ships that we haven’t got hopelessly lost on during our first day onboard.

Disney Wonder free activities

Something that is really important on a Disney cruise is to ‘Be Prepared’. There are some fantastic free special activities on Disney Wonder that you can do if you know about them, but you need to book these in advance, ideally before you get onboard. An example of this is the Royal Gathering which we did and really enjoyed. All of the princesses gather in the atrium and at your allocated time, you can go and have your photo taken with ALL of them, one after the other.

There were a few things we particularly loved about this experience. Firstly, it was complimentary (great news for Aussies as the Disney Wonder onboard currency is US dollars which can be tough due to the poor exchange rate). We also loved the fact you didn’t have to stand around. Instead, you could turn up at your allocated time which meant less waiting for kids (and their parents). We thought it would feel like a production line but the princesses spent time interacting with guests and making everyone feel special when it was their turn.

Disney Wonder paid activities

There are some additional paid experiences available like Princess and Pirate makeovers in the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and the Royal Court Royal Tea Party. We didn’t do any of these as they were geared to families travelling with younger children. These did look like fun but there are plenty of free character and other moments that can be enjoyed without paying extra if you’re watching your pennies onboard.

Princess meet and greets on Disney Wonder

It turns out meeting a genuine Disney princess is quite an experience. Firstly, they are completely in character and chat about where they live and what they like to do with their time and ask how you are doing as well. When I met my favourite princess and namesake, Princess Tiana, she remembered I had dined at her restaurant the night before and asked if I had enjoyed my meal there. And our sophisticated 20 year old couldn’t help blushing when he met his favourite Disney princess, Rapunzel. He was blown away by how friendly she was and how she was so perfectly in character the whole time.

Our 20 year old meeting Rapunzel on Disney Wonder

We had never done meet and greets at any of the Disney Parks as the lines could be long but there are loads of opportunities to meet characters on Disney Wonder, whether you go to the Royal Gathering or line up for a meet and greet with one of the princesses or characters at another time. Some Disney regulars told us that it was so quick and easy meeting the princesses on the ship, compared to some of the Disney parks they had been to. It’s also a lot more comfortable as the ship is airconditioned (I bet the princesses like this too).

Disney Wonder kids clubs

For this kids club round up, I will jump straight to the place onboard with the least availability: ‘It’s a small world’. Yes, that’s the real name of the nursery, and it only has 16 places per day, so book early for this if you’re travelling with children aged six months to three years who would like to go here. The nursery costs US$9 per hour due to the high staff to children ratio; all of the other kids clubs are complimentary.

Exploring Disney Wonder opens ‘A Whole New World’ with dedicated children’s areas that really do need to be seen to be believed. Even though our son is now way too old for the kid’s clubs, we went to an open house to take a look around as we had heard the Disney Cruise kid’s clubs were epic – and they were!  Even better, they can cater to as many children as there are onboard the ship on each cruise, so no children are turned away due to the kid’s club being full. Something that has happened to our son a few times on other lines (yes, there were tears – from him and also from his parents!).

Kids club on Disney Wonder

The huge Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab caters for children aged 3 to 12 years in a combined space so siblings can stay together. Tweens aged 11 to 14 can head to Edge, while the exclusive Vibe space is tucked away at the top of a set of stairs  and is exclusively for 14 to 17 year olds. Kids aged under 12 are fitted with a Disney Oceaneer Band which acts as a stateroom key and helps you and the kids club staff keep track of them onboard.

Disney Wonder for adults

While Disney Wonder has some fantastic kids facilities, over-18s like our family are far from ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ as there are multiple adult-only areas as well. Let’s start with the Quiet Cove pool and Signals bar area on deck nine. This area is a delight with a large pool, two hot tubs, a dedicated bar, and plenty of staff to take your drink orders if you’re feeling thirsty. We enjoyed hanging out here. Our family of adults also discovered it’s a great place to bring your lunch from the buffet or pool deck eating spots with plenty of seating and a nice outdoor atmosphere.

Quiet Cove on Disney Wonder

You’ll also find the best place for coffee here at Cove Café.  Ask the staff for a free coffee card as you get a free coffee after you’ve collected five stamps. There is also an adults-only specialty restaurant called Palo which offers modern Italian cuisine with ocean views and romance. It is open for brunch on sea days and also dinner if you feel like a treat.

Our favourite adult’s only spot on board would have to be the Cadillac Lounge. This retro-designed Art Nouveau bar is all about class and style with lots of leather and chrome. In the evening, it comes alive with piano tunes by talented performers that will keep you up past your bedtime. A big shout out goes to Wil, the pianist on our cruise, for making our sailing so memorable. He was a hit with our entire family and we all loved being able to ask for our favourite songs.

The other bars onboard include the Crown & Fin Pub, which resembles a traditional British tavern but wasn’t really our scene. Azure, an adults-only hotspot after hours that’s inspired by the sea’s shapes, colours, sounds and movements and lucky last, the French Quarter Lounge, a New Orleans-inspired bar where guests can kick back with unique cocktails and a live jazz trio. There’s great people watching to be had from this bar which was our second favourite spot for an after-dinner drink.

Disney Wonder dining

The other essential things to pre-book are your dining times, as all dining apart from the specialty restaurant, Palo, is set time dining at 5.45 or 8.15 to cater to the theatre show times. So, think about your best dining times for you and your family and pre-book your preferred option.

We haven’t done traditional set time dining for years and usually actively avoid it but it works on this cruise as you rotate through the restaurants on a set schedule with your same waiters each night two of the three restaurants have entertainment which means you need to eat at a set time. We did struggle with eating so early at the beginning of the cruise (8.15 was too late for us, but 5.45 felt way too early) but we got used to it and loved having the same waitstaff each night. They were fantastic and made us understand why some cruisers always opt for set dining.

On our first night, we were looking forward to ‘Going Down the Bayou’ for dinner at Tiana’s Place, a restaurant which had live music and plenty of Southern charm. There was also a trumpet-playing alligator called Louis (one of my favourite Disney characters) who led a street party celebration and conga line with Princess Tiana and a crew of entertainers through the restaurant.

Tiana's Place on Disney Wonder

We especially loved the food at Triton’s (don’t miss the lamb!), where you dine ‘Under The Sea’ at a restaurant that feels more like a specialty dining experience than a main dining room. It is loosely themed on The Little Mermaid and has an upmarket vibe.

On our last night, we dined at the Animator’s Palate, which features animation-adorned walls and large high-definition flat-screens to project some animation magic that you create yourself. I won’t say too much as I don’t want to spoil the surprise but it’s worth getting to this restaurant about five minutes early for some extra drawing time (a great tip from our fabulous waiter). We loved Triton’s but the Animator’s Palate still came out in front was our favourite restaurant!

Disney Wonder casual dining

Casual eats are provided at Pinocchio’s Pizzeria, Pete’s Boiler Bites for burgers, hot dogs and tacos and Daisy’s De-Lites for healthy salads, sandwiches, wraps and fruit. If you love a buffet, you can head up to Cabanas and fill your plate with an array of goodies. Unlike some other cruise lines, this restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch which means there is no dinner buffet. All of the evening meals take place in the three main dining room restaurants, but you can also order room service anytime at no additional charge if you fancy a change.

Disney Wonder shows and entertainment

So, ‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman’?  You know you do, which brings us to the entertainment on Disney Wonder and one of the big-ticket items that brings passengers on board. Even if you don’t usually go to shows, you should definitely go to these.

Let’s start with the big production shows which were ‘Frozen: The Musical Spectacular’, ‘The Golden Mickeys’ (which is themed on a classic awards night like the Golden Globes) and ‘Disney Dreams’, a musical showcase inspired by classic films like Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Cinderella and Aladdin. These were all good with some incredible performers but our family’s favourite was Disney Dreams for its variety of songs, the puppetry and the staging which was Broadway quality, the same as all the other shows onboard.

"Frozen, a Musical Spectacular" on Disney Wonder

There were also fireworks on the final night of the cruise and a Marvel Heroes Unite show on the top deck on our second night. Cue characters ziplining across the deck, a suitably droll Loki and plenty of G rated choreographed fight scenes and other action hero stuff. You also get fireworks at the end of this show which is an added bonus.

Disney wonder movie theatre.

Another onboard highlight is being able to see Disney’s new releases which are shown on the ship on the same day they’re released on land, a bonus if there is a blockbuster coming out that you want to see. The Art Nouveau themed movie theatre is gorgeous and shows classic Disney movies as well, plus all your Disney favourites are available via the in-room TV.

Other entertainment on Disney Wonder

There are yet more entertainment options with the Twist ‘n’ Spout water slide, and AquaLab interactive water play area. We were tempted to give the slide a whirl but never quite got there. One of the things we enjoyed most onboard Disney Magic was the people watching, with adults and children getting a genuine buzz meeting the Disney characters. Warning: your heart will melt watching the little boys and girls seeing their favourites.

Is a Disney Wonder cruise in Australia worth it?

Disney Cruises aren’t exactly a cheap cruise holiday, so we couldn’t help but wonder if going on a Disney Wonder cruise in Australia was going to be worth it for local cruisers. However, after sailing on Disney Wonder, we couldn’t help but be impressed and the other passengers we spoke to were as well. Three nights onboard felt just right as the ship wasn’t too big so we got to try each main dining room and see all the shows. While there are two night sailings, I would try to get on a three-nights or longer trip if possible.

Everything on our sailing was first-rate, from the immaculate look and feel of the ship (you would never know it was more than 20 years old) to the staff and many free Disney experiences included in the regular fare. Our family of adults discovered that when you ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ onboard Disney Wonder, your dreams really can come true – no matter how young (or how old) you are.

The Disney cruise is finally in Australia: Here's everything you need to know

By Kerri Elstub | 7 months ago

I grew up on Disney. We all did, whether you noticed it or not. From the early days of watching Snow White and Cinderella when I was a little girl, to introducing my own kids to the wonders of Lightning McQueen and Buzz Lightyear . I can still quote every line from those movies.

We were lucky enough to venture to the United States and take the kids to Disneyland (how good is Space Mountain!) and Disney World's four Florida theme parks. So how would a Disney Cruise compare?

Surely, without the roller coasters, spinning tea cups and giant turkey legs… it wouldn't be the same?

We boarded the Disney Wonder for her maiden Australian voyage: Sydney to Hobart return with four days of Disney magic. And my goodness, did they deliver.

Disney Cruise

THE CHECK-IN

It starts before you board the boat. We were greeted by what felt like 20 staff before we even got near the gangway. Everyone is smiling, welcoming and genuinely excited to see you.

But just wait until you board the boat. As you step into the lobby every family or couple is announced by name to a cheering and clapping crew. We lapped it up, dancing down the carpet. We felt like absolute rock stars. And don't just take my word for it.

I'm cruising with two of the sharpest critics in travel and entertainment: my seven and nine-year-old nieces, Parker and Spencer.

Our cabin is a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom With Verandah.

Kids will love the Mickey detailing to be found in everything from the lamps to the towels and pillows, parents will appreciate the separate bathroom and toilet.

There's a fridge, a TV, plenty of storage and power points (bring US adaptors) and a turndown service at night that turns your lounge into bunk beds. Genius idea.

The balcony is spacious and, as I type, very sunny as we cross Bass Strait.

KEYS TO THE WORLD

We were all given our own Key To The World. This is your keycard that allows you to get into your stateroom, as well as book the kids into kids club (more on that shortly), buy non-included items like gifts, special onboard experiences like wine and chocolate pairing and alcohol purchases, as well as tracking the official photographs taken onboard.

You link it to a credit card, then it's automatically deducted at the end of your stay. Bring or buy a lanyard to wear it around your neck. Everyone does. Everyone also wears Mickey ears and if you think you won't do it, you're kidding yourself. I wore mine from breakfast to lights out.

Oh my, the food… where do I begin? Do I begin with the Mickey waffles and churros I ate for breakfast at Cabana's on level 9? The free all-day, soft serve ice-cream? The pizzas by the pool? No, I'll be a grown up and explain the whole dining experience.

Disney wants you to explore all the restaurants onboard, so you'll be rotated around the different places to eat. We started at Tiana's, which is a celebration of southern cooking and jazz music. Apart from the delicious food, the child friendly options and entertainment made this a first class experience. Where else do you stop mid meal for a spontaneous conga line and limbo?

disney cruise australia cabins

Next up it's Triton's, which takes its name from Ariel, The Little Mermaid 's dad. We were here on pirate night, one of Disney's famous themed nights and all the wait staff were dressed to the nines. My nieces loved the Mickey Mac 'n' Cheese and the Minnie burger, but the real highlight was the magic tricks performed by our waiters each night.

You see, that's the genius thing about Disney dining. You rotate restaurants each night, but your servers rotate with you. Our servers, Felice, Organ and Aditya welcomed us by name every night, engaged with the kids and looked after our every whim.  It's a great way to make the kids feel comfortable at every moment.

Saving the best until last, the final of the included restaurants is Animator's Palate, where they combine the magic of Disney animation with a one of a kind dinner show. You draw on your placemats, then they are turned into an after dinner short movie. It's amazing.

We followed the recommendations of our friendly servers and the black truffle pasta and steak were melt-in-your mouth good. But sure to save room to order a Mickey ice-cream off the kids menu too!

A couple sits in a bar with a drink

Palo is the adults-only Italian restaurant at the back of deck 10. It's a decadent and grown up experience that the big kids can enjoy as an optional extra, while the little ones enjoy the kid's club. We couldn't get the girls out of there! Again, more on that later. The wait staff are knowledgeable and warm.

For once, I was too full of gnocchi and buffalo cheese to eat dessert. A first for me. But never fear, I made up for it with brunch at Palo the following day where I can highly recommend the lemon torte.

I mentioned Cabana's before. This is the buffet restaurant at the back of the ship. Open for breakfast and lunch, there is every brekkie staple imaginable including the aforementioned Mickey Mouse waffles!

Lunch is everything from Mexican, to salads to panini and delicate cakes and tarts worthy of their own high tea.

Haven't eaten enough? There's also 24-hour room service available. Our girls delighted in the silver service brought straight to their door.

THE KIDS CLUB

Being Disney, the kids club was always going to be exceptional. My nieces were skeptical until the moment they walked through the door. Sold! There are five different areas for the little ones. The Nursery is for under 3s and provides 1:1 care (this is an additional cost to cruise).

Characters Jessie and Woody play with kids

Oceaneer's Club is for the 3-13 year olds and it's set out somewhat like a Disney Theme Park with different areas and themes like Toy Story and Marvel. There are so many activities here from goo making to dance parties, your kids won't even know you've gone.

It's strictly no parents allowed and your kids are cared for and monitored at all times by counselors and a Disney wristband.

Just down the hall is Oceaneer's Lab for the same age group where there's games, drawing, not to mention plenty of visits from the Disney and Marvel characters themselves. For the tweens and almost adults there's the chill-out spaces of The Edge (ages 11-14) and Vibe (14-17) to play video games or just hang out.

On the last day my nieces tearfully handed back their wristbands. They did not want to leave.

THE CHARACTERS

Of course Disney is ALL about the characters and they are all here… Goofy, Pluto, Daffy, Cinderella, Ariel, the Marvel characters… and of course true Disney royalty, Captain's Mickey And Minnie Mouse.

The characters all have designated appearance times, not to mention the stage shows, so you can interact with them throughout your holiday.  Being Disney, it is super organised and efficient. Be sure to line up early if you want a photo.

Disney Cruise

THE ACTIVITIES

Knowing little ones need to be entertained, Disney cruise ships have a jam packed schedule from morning until bedtime. There's all day movies by the kids pool, craft, bingo, trivia ,and dance parties, all loved by kids and adults alike. You'll find your daily schedule on the Navigator App that you download before you board.

You can then highlight the ones you like and get reminders when events are about to start. My favourite? The silent dance party.

For kids, the number one requirement on any cruise ship is a great pool area. Here on the Disney Wonder it's on level nine. There's a life-guard manned heated pool which is a Godsend for parents and little ones, not to mention a spa and an amazing water slide and toddler paddling area.

The main kids pool also plays almost non-stop Disney movies. I found myself still watching and loving Cars and Frozen , despite my 50-plus age.

An outdoor circular pool and yellow water slide

THE STAGE SHOWS

Disney stage shows are like Broadway on the sea. With about 2700 people onboard, the crew have cleverly split dining and show times so half eat while the other half watch the shows. We had The Golden Mickeys, Disney Dreams and the Frozen musical, which were vocally and visually incredible.

The kids also feel very welcome and nobody is going to bat an eyelid at a restless toddler. And frankly, if you haven't eaten popcorn out of a silver Cinderella carriage, have you even lived?

THE PARTIES/THEME NIGHTS

Along with the stage shows, Disney also goes all out for their daily deck parties. Whether it's Crush's Pool Party, Pirate night or the Sail-A-Wave spectacular… you can dance, sing and cheer along. And did I mention they have their own fireworks too?

FOR THE BIG KIDS

Disney is not just for the kids. There are some hardcore Disney fans out there who are well beyond their teens. So if you're in need of some kid-free time, there are plenty of adults only zones on level nine including a pool, bar, cafe and lounge area.

I recommend the frosé from Signals bar. There's also whisky and wine tasting, adult trivia, singalongs and happy hours.

Disney Cruise

I've got to save the final word for the staff. They are in a league of their own. Everyone has a name tag with their country of origin on it. Everyone says hello, everyone is interested in your trip and wellbeing. They all proudly share their stories of their Disney journey. You feel like part of the Disney family and that is a feeling you can't buy.

And that's the thing with Disney. In the end, Disney is more than just a movie studio or a travel company. Disney is a feeling. It's something you notice from the first moment you step on the ship, to the staff who greet you and the kids by name each day, to the special moments they create.

The Disney cruise experience is one you'll be talking about for years to come. Don't just take my word for it. My nieces will be happy to tell you all about it, but you'll have to wear your Mickey ears!

Disney cruises are headed down under ... and plenty of Aussies are excited.

Picture reveals chilling reality for lone ship

P&O Cruises Australia is being shut down

P&O Cruises Australia is being shut down

We’ve been on 28 cruises, this is what we always pack

We’ve been on 28 cruises, this is what we always pack

It was recently announced the Disney Cruise Lines would be bringing their Wonder ship to Australia for a limited number of trips.

The announcement was music to the ears of Aussie Disney fans - for years Australians have been wishing that they didn't have to travel across the globe to visit one of the theme parks, or jump on board one of Disney's famous Cruise Lines .

Tickets are going to be *hot* property. Word on the street is cabins will sell out pretty quickly.

We asked Rebecca Mason from Mr Chocolate's Travel (Australia's specialist Disney travel agency) for advice on how to make sure you land one of the coveted spots.

How do people book a Disney cruise from Australia?

Tickets will go on sale to all guests on September 29, 2022 (at 8am AEST or 11am NZDT) and you can choose a package from two nights on board the ship to a fun-packed six nights. The best way to land a spot is to register your interest ASAP with an agency that sells the product (we are one of the few agencies that can sell Disney cruises directly through a live portal).  Alternatively you can try your luck online when tickets go live.

Where do the Australian Disney cruises go?

The southern hemisphere trips will be departing from ports in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in Australia, and Auckland in New Zealand. The trips will mostly be between Australian ports, or will be short roundtrips from each city. There will also be some cruises to Hobart and Noumea.

When will the Disney cruise ship be sailing in Australia?

Between Oct 2023-Feb 2024.

How many Disney cruises will be happening from Australia?

There will be 32 cruises all up.

How many days do the Disney cruises go for in Australia?

What happens if you miss out - will there be another opportunity to secure tickets.

We're expecting Disney's first Australian cruise season to sell out very quickly so make sure you register your interest today if you don't want to miss out. Keep enquiring because often availability for cabins will come up in the weeks after release and leading up to each sailing.

Hopefully this will be the first of many Disney ships to sail down under and there will be more opportunities to experience the magic of Disney at sea in the years to come.

What does the Disney cruise ticket include?

While on board, Disney Cruise Line guests will be immersed in the magic of Disney with unforgettable character encounters with favourites such as Captain Mickey Mouse, Captain Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Pluto, and entertainment including original Broadway-quality shows.

Guests will also enjoy memorable dining experiences with themed restaurants including Tiana’s Place, where guests can meet Princess Tiana herself and enjoy a taste of New Orleans cooking, and Animator’s Palate, an interactive dining experience that celebrates Disney animation.

A Disney cruise provides a little magic at sea.

Don't be surprised if the kids forget to eat because they're having too much fun.

Also don't be surprised if you lose them while they're totally absorbed in the  Frozen  adventures in Disney’s Oceaneer Club, the multi-level replica of Andy’s Room from  Toy Story  or the Marvel Super Hero Academy.

For the adults who just need a break from all the magic, there's also the adults-only Quiet Cove pool or the Senses Spa and Salon.

Simone has been a fan of travel ever since an early family holiday when she discovered chocolates had been left on her pillow in turndown service! Her favourite travel experience has been dancing with a 90-year-old grandma on a table in Crete after a long lunch. Her worst travel experience has been fainting in the street in Tokyo after enthusiastically eating a takoyaki ball that was way too hot.

It was once a Queen of the ocean. But now, one of Australia’s most loved cruise ships faces a rather eerie fate.

After 90 years of cruising from Australia, the beloved P&O brand is being axed and will be folded into the Carnival brand.

NEWS DISNEY ANZ

Disney cruise line brings magical sailings to australia and new zealand for the first time.

Brad Hatch, Director of Corporate Communcations

‘Disney Magic at Sea’ sailings in Australia and New Zealand for a limited time from October 2023 through February 2024.

For the first time, Disney Cruise Line is coming to the shores of Australia and New Zealand to offer magical vacations created especially for local residents during a limited season from late 2023.

The ‘Disney Magic at Sea’ sailings will bring all of the magic of Disney to one amazing holiday experience with favourite characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars on board, plus imaginative dining and spectacular entertainment – all in one cruise.

The special sailings aboard the Disney Wonder range from two to six nights and will depart from four home ports: Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, Australia, as well as Auckland, New Zealand.

“ We are so excited to bring the magic of a Disney cruise vacation close to home for guests in Australia and New Zealand, ” said Josh D’Amaro, Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. “ On these limited-time sailings, the ship is the destination, and our amazing Disney Cruise Line crew can’t wait to welcome guests on board as they are immersed in their favourite stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars. ”

The inaugural sailing of this limited season departs October 28, 2023 from Sydney. Bookings open to the general public from Thursday September 29, 2022 at 8am AEST / 11am NZDT.

While on board, Disney Cruise Line guests will be immersed in the magic of Disney with unforgettable character encounters with favourite Disney friends including Captain Mickey Mouse, Captain Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Pluto, and spectacular entertainment including original Broadway-quality shows.

Guests will also enjoy incredible dining experiences with imaginative restaurants including Tiana’s Place, where guests can meet Princess Tiana herself and enjoy a taste of New Orleans cooking, and Animator’s Palate, an interactive dining experience that celebrates Disney animation.

Children will have their own “Frozen” adventures in Disney’s Oceaneer Club, along with a multi-level replica of Andy’s Room from “Toy Story” and a place to summon their inner super hero at the Marvel Super Hero Academy. Adults even have their own exclusive spaces to rest and relax, including the adults-only Quiet Cove pool, sophisticated dining at Palo and the rejuvenating Senses Spa & Salon.

All sailings will include health and safety measures considering up-to-date guidance from public health authorities in Australia and New Zealand and medical experts. Disney Cruise Line’s current health and safety protocols are outlined on disneycruise.com.

Best Staterooms on a Disney Cruise

Disney Cruise Lines are perfect for families looking to enjoy quality time together. But with so many different categories and subcategories, how do you know which stateroom is right for you? Let’s investigate how to select the best staterooms on a Disney cruise for your family vacation.

Not familiar with the term “stateroom”?  Disney Cruise Line refers to the individual passenger rooms on its cruise ships as “staterooms.”  You might have heard these previously referred to elsewhere as “ cabins .”

The Disney Cruise Line offers four main types of staterooms: Concierge (the most expensive ), Veranda, Oceanview, and Inside (the least expensive). In each category and within each ship, there are different options (subcategories). Category 1 is typically the most costly, followed by Category 2, etc. Category 11 is the least expensive. Within each category, subcategory A is typically more expensive than subcategory B, and so on.

The amenities and size of the room usually correspond to the price, with Category 1 being the biggest and best while Category 11 has the smallest rooms with the fewest features.

Within each numbered category, the letter subcategories typically designate more preferable locations on the ship’s deck plan (rather than differences in stateroom amenities).  For example, a 4A stateroom might be in a better location than a 4C stateroom, but the interiors of both staterooms will be virtually identical. Note that some Concierge staterooms are an exception to this rule; Category 1A is a drastically different stateroom versus Category 1B.

Generally speaking, rooms located on higher decks or the middle of each deck plan (known as midship or mid ) are considered more preferable than lower decks or staterooms that are forward (front of the ship) or aft (rear of the ship). Which side of the ship the room is on (port side or starboard side) generally does not factor into stateroom category.

Also note that some stateroom categories cater to different travel parties. Some staterooms might only sleep up to a family of four , whereas others can hold five or more.

Please note that this guide does not include accessible suites , which offer the same level of convenience and comfort to guests with disabilities. For questions about accessible suites or any of the below-listed rooms, please get in touch with The Vacationeer .

Their team of experienced Disney travel agents will help you find the best itineraries at the lowest price, and there’s never an additional charge for their services.

Now, let’s look at the best staterooms on a Disney Cruise ship .

Concierge Staterooms (Most Expensive Main Category)

DCL Concierge Wish Tower Suite

The Concierge category offers the most luxurious – and expensive – accommodations on Disney Cruise Line. Each room has a large private verandah and premium amenities and services.

The Concierge Wish Tower Suite and the Concierge Royal Suite are the ship’s most spacious and lavishly appointed rooms. Additionally, the Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite is a more modestly priced option that still offers an incredible experience. For families, the Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom provides plenty of space and convenient access to all of the ship’s family-friendly amenities.

Concierge-level staterooms in categories 1, 2, and 3 include additional perks , such as access to priority seating for excursions and events and exclusive access to the Concierge Lounge, where you can relax with complimentary coffee, tea, and pastries or enjoy evening hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.

Here’s a breakdown of the categories found in the Concierge category.

Category 1A – Concierge Wish Tower Suite (Disney Wish cruise ship only)

The Wish Tower Suite on Deck 14 and 15 is the Disney Cruise Line’s most luxurious room. It has two bedrooms, a space for children with two bunk beds, and a library that can convert into two more rooms. Aside from the four full bathrooms and the half-bath off the living room, the suite has floor-to-ceiling windows on both decks, providing a great view of the ship from the suite.

Eight guests can stay in this 1,966 sq. ft. suite. It has a wow factor like no other!

Recommendation :  The Concierge Wish Tower Suite is the perfect choice for families or groups who have the money to spend and won’t settle for anything less than the best. Nothing out-competes the luxury of this stateroom.  It truly is the best stateroom on a Disney Cruise.

Category 1A – Concierge Royal Suite w/ Verandah (Disney Dream, Fantasy, Magic, & Wonder cruise ships)

The Concierge Royal Suite with Verandah stateroom is the largest and most luxurious suite offered on Disney’s Dream, Fantasy, Magic, and Wonder. The Magic and Wonder ships can accommodate up to 7 guests, and the Dream and Fantasy ships can accommodate up to 5 guests.

The suite features a living area with a formal dining table and sitting area and a massive verandah with a private hot tub on the Dream and Fantasy ships. The decor in these suites is luxurious and tasteful, making it the perfect choice for those looking for the ultimate in luxury and comfort.

Recommendation :  This is the Crème de la Crème of staterooms on the Disney Dream, Fantasy, Magic, and Wonder cruise ships. If roominess and luxury are what you’re after, and you have the money to spend, then Concierge Royal Suite with Verandah is a great choice.

Category 1B – Concierge 2-Story Royal Suite w/ Verandah (Disney Wish)

The Concierge 2-Story Royal Suite with Verandah on the Disney Wish cruise ship is a luxurious and spacious stateroom that spans two decks (decks 12 and 13). The Suite features a spiral staircase, two large bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a large dining and living area, and two large verandahs with a private hot tub.

This stateroom is an impressive 1,759 sq. ft and can comfortably sleep six guests,

Recommendation:  The 2-Story Royal Suite is another fantastic offering from the new Disney Wish. Perfect for families and groups of six who want to be treated like kings and queens.

Category 1B – Concierge 2-Bedroom Suite w/ Verandah (Disney Magic & Wonder)

Disney Cruise Line’s Concierge 2-Bedroom Suite with Verandah features two separate bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, and a spacious sitting area.  The total area is 945 sq. ft., including the verandah, and can accommodate up to seven people. A large verandah is perfect for enjoying the views or relaxing. It is an impressive suite, perfect for a large group or family!

This stateroom is only available on Disney Magic and Disney Wonder .

Recommendation:   An excellent choice for families who want plenty of luxury and space. Choose the starboard (right) side if you sail to Castaway Cay because you will have better views of Disney’s private island when docked.

Category 1C – 1-Story Royal Suites w/ Verandah (Disney Wish)

With a classic elegance inspired by Sleeping Beauty, the Disney Wish’s 1-Story Royal Suites with Verandah are perfect for families and groups of up to 6. There are two bedrooms, a living room and dining room, three full bathrooms, and an impressive 1,507 square feet of living space. The wet bar is perfect for entertaining, and the large private verandah with a whirlpool tub is the ideal place to relax.

Recommendation :  These beautiful and family-friendly staterooms will make your cruise vacation unforgettable.

Category 2A and 2B – Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite w/ Verandah (All Disney Cruise Ships)

Disney cruises offer a 1-Bedroom Suite with Verandah for those looking for a little extra space and privacy on their vacation. The suite sleeps up to 5 people and features a separate bedroom, two bathrooms, a living room, and a wet bar.  The main bathroom has double sinks, a rain-style shower, and a whirlpool tub. A large walk-in closet provides plenty of space for storing your belongings.

The main difference between Categories 2A and 2B is location. Magic and Wonder’s 2A suites have a slightly different layout with a longer verandah. Dream and Fantasy’s 2A suites are located between the two connecting Royal Suites and the ship’s front center. The 2A suites of the Disney Wish are located on deck 12 and have a deeper verandah than the 2B suites.

Recommendation:  This is an excellent option if you only need one bedroom but still want plenty of roominess and class.

Category 3A and 3B – Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom w/ Verandah (Disney Dream, Fantasy, Magic, & Wonder)

The Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah on Disney cruises is a luxurious private room that sleeps up to five people. This room is complete with a private verandah with beautiful sea views and an abundance of warm woods and custom fabrics.

The stateroom features a queen-sized bed, a convertible sofa, a Pullman bunk bed, and a spacious bathroom with a shower, TV, and a safe. There are just over 300 square feet of living space. Additionally, families have concierge-level guests access to a private lounge and priority boarding.

Recommendation:   Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom is excellent for families that want the luxury and perks of a Concierge-level stateroom but don’t need all the bells and whistles (and expense) of the Category 1 and 2 staterooms.

Category 3B – Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom (Disney Wish)

The Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom on Disney Wish offers stunning sea views through floor-to-ceiling windows.

A king bed, a single convertible sofa, and an upper-berth single pull-down bed make up this room, which can accommodate up to five guests. There is also a wall pull-down bed in rooms that sleep five. The 357-square-foot room provides plenty of space for the whole family to relax.

Guests staying in a Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom also have access to special concierge services, including priority boarding and seating at shows and restaurant reservations. If you’re looking for a truly magical experience, book a stay in one of these Little Mermaid-themed spaces.

Recommendation :  These are fun and family-oriented staterooms on Disney’s newest cruise ship. This is a good option if you want a Concierge-level room at a relatively affordable price.

Verandah (Balcony) Staterooms

DCL Disney Magic Verandah Stateroom

Verandah staterooms are Disney’s most spacious non-concierge accommodations, each with its own balcony outside the ship where you can enjoy the fresh air while watching the ocean go by.

Category four, five, six, and seven are verandah staterooms. Some rooms in this category offer partial views, but all provide a comfortable and relaxing space.

Category 4 – Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom w/ Verandah (All Disney Cruise Ships)

The Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah on Disney cruises is the largest stateroom on the ships that are not concierge suites. Roughly 300 sq ft, it sleeps up to 5 and is the only single-room option for a family of 5 on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. The Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah is also the most frequently booked option for families of 5 on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy .

All of these factors considered it’s no wonder that this room type is one of the most popular among families cruising with Disney.

Recommendation : The Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom is perfect for families of four or five who value roominess and want to enjoy the ocean breeze from the verandah .

Category 5 – Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah (All Disney Cruise Ships)

The Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah on Disney cruises is a fantastic choice for your family cruise. With enough space to comfortably sleep 3-4 guests and an unobstructed verandah, this room type is perfect for enjoying the beautiful view.

Magic and Wonder’s cabins are 268 sq ft, while Dream, Fantasy, and Wish are 248 sq ft. The Deluxe Oceanview Staterooms with Verandah come with a queen bed, a sleeper sofa, and a pull-out berth (if sleeping four). This room type also features a sitting area, plenty of closet space, and a private verandah to enjoy the view without leaving your stateroom.

Recommendation :   Among the regular-sized verandah cabins, these are the most common and the most frequently booked for families with four or fewer members. They are an excellent choice!

DCL-Disney-Dream-Cat-5-Stateroom

Category 6 – Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah – Undersized, Obstructed View, or White Wall  (All Disney Cruise Ships)

Category 6 staterooms are located near the back of the ship’s upper deck. Accommodations are nearly identical to those found in Category 5 but have either an undersized, obstructed, or white wall verandah. Those who book a Category 6 cabin on the Magic and Wonder will have full white wall railings, while on the Dream and Fantasy, the white wall only extends halfway up the railing.

All of these staterooms sleep at least three, and many sleep 4.

Recommendation :  Because these rooms are nearly identical to Category 5 rooms, they are a terrific way to save money on your Disney cruise . We recommend the Dream and Fantasy 6B staterooms because of their stunning views, and Disney Magic and Wonder’s Category 6 staterooms on Deck 6 have more verandah space, as do 5650 and 5150.

Category 7 – Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Navigator’s Verandah (All Disney Cruise Ships)

Navigator verandahs on Disney Magic and Disney Wonder feature mostly enclosed balconies with a viewing window cut out. In contrast, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish have a minimally obstructed view from the verandah.

Recommendation:  The rooms in Category 7 are nearly identical to those in Category 5 and 6, so they are a good way to save on a Disney cruise if you don’t mind having a partial view. We believe these are the best values in the verandah category, particularly on the Dream, Fantasy, and Wish.

Oceanview (Porthole) Staterooms

DCL-DIsney-Dream-Oceanview-Stateroom

The Oceanview category of staterooms (Category 8 and 9) features rooms with scenic vistas through genuine porthole windows. The Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom is perfect for families, while the Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom provides a more intimate setting.

Category 8 – Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom (Disney Dream, Fantasy, & Wish)

Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish to offer a truly luxurious cruise experience with their Category 8 Deluxe Family Oceanview Staterooms.

These staterooms are much larger than the standard size (around 240 sq ft), sleeping between 3 and 5 people comfortably. In addition, they feature unique round tub-showers (see the video above for Category 4) and large portholes with seating, making them the perfect place to relax and take in the breathtaking views. The exceptions to this are the 8As, which are similar to suites with two large portholes and plenty of space. Families and groups can enjoy Category 8A even more since many have a divider between the bed and seating area. None of them will disappoint.

Recommendation :  Families looking for affordability and comfort will find the Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom is the right choice.

Category 9 – Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom (All Disney Cruise Ships)

The Category 9 Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom sleeps 3 or 4 people and is the same size as the category 10’s with a similar layout and features. The Disney Dream and Fantasy Rooms are 204 sq ft, 214 on Disney Magic and Wonder, and 218 sq ft on Disney Wish. Most rooms have a porthole on one of the walls. On the Magic and Wonder ships, the 9D staterooms on deck 1 have two small portholes instead of one large porthole.

A, B, C, and D designations represent Disney’s assessment of the location and view of the room. In Dream, Fantasy, and Wish, the 9C and 9D staterooms typically have obstructed views and are usually located in the front of the vessel.

Recommendation :  If you prefer to save money over having a porthole in your room, opt for Category 10.

Inside Staterooms (Least Expensive Main Category)

DCL Disney Wish Inside Stateroom

An Inside Stateroom on the Disney Wish | Image © Disney

The Inside category features Disney Cruise Line’s base accommodations, with no window (no exterior view) but still featuring a nautical motif. The Deluxe Inside Stateroom is slightly larger than the Standard Inside Stateroom and provides additional storage space and a sitting area.

Category 10 –Deluxe Inside Stateroom (Disney Dream, Fantasy, Magic, & Wonder)

Rooms in Category 10 are almost identical to those in Category 9, except for being unable to see the outside. These staterooms also have more square footage than those in Category 11.

The Disney Dream/Fantasy Deluxe Inside Staterooms are 204 sq ft, and the Disney Magic/Wonder rooms are 214 sq ft. They can accommodate 3 or 4 people.

Disney Wish does not have a Deluxe Inside category.

Virtual portholes on the Disney Dream and Fantasy ships allow passengers to see what is happening outside (along with a bit of Disney magic thrown in).

There are also a select few unnamed staterooms on the Magic/Wonder ships known in some circles as “secret porthole” staterooms — they actually have porthole windows but Disney decided not to classify them as oceanview rooms because lifeboats or other architectural elements obstruct the views.

Deluxe Inside Staterooms have a split bathroom, with one half having a sink and a shower, and the other half having a toilet and a sink. A, B, and C subcategories are assigned according to their locations, with A subcategories on upper decks or closer to midship, while C subcategories are on lower decks.

Recommendation : Deluxe Inside Cabins/Staterooms are an excellent option for couples or families of 3 or 4 on a budget.

Category 11 – Standard Inside Stateroom (All Disney Cruise Ships)

Standard Inside Staterooms are typically the cheapest rooms available on Disney Cruise Line .

Standard Inside Staterooms sleep three, and some sleep four.  They’re smaller than other staterooms, but the amenities are the same. The Disney Magic and Wonder rooms are 184 square feet, while the Dream Fantasy and Wish rooms are 169 square feet.

There’s no split bathroom in a Standard Inside Stateroom. The Disney Dream and Fantasy ships feature a Magical Porthole with real-time views, but the other ships do not have exterior views.

Disney divides the rooms into categories A, B, and C based on attractiveness. Category 11A rooms are found on upper decks and near the ship’s middle, while 11B rooms are on lower decks.

Recommendation:  The Standard Inside Statement is a small and cheap option, so you shouldn’t expect too much from it. However, this DCL room offers more space than you would get on other (non-Disney) cruise ships of the same class. It allows couples and small families the opportunity to enjoy a Disney cruise at a reasonable price.

As always seems to be the case, the best option for you may not be the best option for another family.

Ask yourself the question: “what’s most important to me?”  Is it having a balcony? Is it experiencing concierge level service in a suite? Is it having additional beds for kids? Is it saving money and just making sure you’re onboard the ship?

Answering those questions, then reviewing deck plans, photos, reviews, and our guide/tips above will help you decide what’s best for you.

No matter your room type, you’re sure to have a magical experience aboard a Disney Cruise ship.

Thanks for reading our Best Staterooms on a Disney Cruise article.  Happy cruising (and don’t forget your passport)!

How much does a Disney cruise really cost?

Megan duBois

Editor's Note

Disney Cruise Line is known for its family-friendly cruises complete with all of your favorite Disney characters, impeccable dining, exciting entertainment and thrilling ports of call. With everything that's included on the sailings, you might be wondering how much a Disney cruise costs — and if you can afford one.

Cruises with Mickey Mouse and his pals range in price depending on many factors such as the embarkation port and destination, departure date, length of the cruise and cabin type you book. No matter which cruise you book, it will be pricey, like any Disney vacation. You'll have to determine what value you put on experiencing the "magic" of Disney.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

To me, it's worth a lot. I've experienced all five ships in the Disney fleet and have sailed seven times to destinations around the Caribbean and the Mediterranean .

Here, I'm sharing how much a Disney cruise costs per ship and itinerary, any extras that are worth the additional fees and how to save money on a Disney cruise.

How much does it cost to go on a Disney cruise?

disney cruise australia cabins

Let's be honest: A cruise on any Disney ship isn't cheap. Factors like cabin type and category, sail date, destination, length of cruise, traveling party size and if you're on a themed cruise can impact the overall cost. If you're trying to keep your costs lower, your best option is to pick a cruise on an older ship (Disney Wonder, Disney Magic, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) or pick a shorter cruise length.

The cheapest Disney cruise we found cost $1,000 for an inside cabin for two people on a two-night sailing on Disney Wonder in Australia. That's $250 per person per night.

If you're looking for a cheap Caribbean or Bahamian sailing, consider a three-night Bahamas cruise on Disney Magic starting at $1,500 for an inside cabin for two people. This also equates to $250 per person per day. Add in drinks, specialty dining, souvenirs and other expenses, and you can expect to spend around $2,500 in total.

On a recent sailing on the Disney Dream , my family of three and I spent five nights at sea in a balcony room and paid a grand total of $4,514.06. This total included everything from the cruise fare and pre-night hotel stay to parking and spa services.

Some examples of starting prices for each ship and its major itineraries for an inside cabin or a balcony cabin are listed below so you can get a sense of pricing across the fleet. Prices are based on double occupancy.

Disney Magic

One- to three-night Bahamas: inside cabins, $1,500 to $2,500; balcony cabins, $1,900 to $3,300 Four-night Caribbean and Bahamas: inside cabins, $1,800 to $3,200; balcony cabins, $2,300 to $4,000 Five- to six-night Caribbean and Bahamas: inside cabins, $2,200 to $4,400; balcony cabins, $3,000 to $6,600 Seven-night Caribbean: inside cabins, $2,700 to $3,300; balcony cabins, $3,800 to $4,900

  • Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy
  • Melbourne, Australia
  • Southampton, England
  • Brisbane, Australia
  • Vancouver (British Columbia), Canada

Depending on the cruise you pick, getting to and from the home port can be easy or take a little longer — and that can impact the total cost of your Disney cruise.

For instance, many people drive to Fort Lauderdale or Port Canaveral if they already live in the southern U.S. Driving can save money versus flying, and you might not have to stay in a pre-cruise hotel if you can drive right to the port.

You will have to pay to park at the port or at a third-party parking lot. While the off-site parking lots are often cheaper, you will need to think about how to get to and from the ship, tipping the porter or driver, plus the added time to get from your car to the ship.

On the other hand, if you are taking a cruise from an international destination or flying to a domestic home port, your costs automatically go up because of flights for your family, a pre-cruise hotel, meals before the sailing, and transportation to the ship and back to the airport.

What's included in the price of a Disney cruise?

disney cruise australia cabins

You might pay a lot for a Disney cruise, but you get a lot for your money. The cost of a Disney cruise covers your onboard dining and most nonalcoholic drinks, an abundance of entertainment for kids and adults, onboard activities and transportation between cruise ports. Even most entertainment and food on Disney's private island Castaway Cay (and upcoming private island destination Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point) is part of the fare.

Entertainment

Most of the entertainment on board is included in the overall cost of your sailing. On your cruise, you can experience Broadway-quality shows inside the Walt Disney Theater, watch first-run movies from Disney's production companies (like Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars), listen to live music and participate in game shows in the adults-only lounges. Most itineraries feature a deck party with a fireworks show.

Kids can meet and play with their favorite Disney characters and participate in activities like karaoke. Family-friendly sun decks with pools, waterslides, splash zones and wading pools are also included in the cost.

Disney Cruise Line is known for its rotational dining evening dinner service. Families rotate through three onboard restaurants throughout the sailing, and your service team moves with you. Each of the rotational dining options is included in your cruise fare. One of the restaurants will be open for drop-in, sit-down meals during breakfast and lunch as well. Complimentary room service is available 24 hours a day.

On the upper decks, quick-service food stations, soft-serve ice cream and a buffet are available. Every Disney cruise also includes unlimited coffee, tea and soda.

Accommodations

Almost every cabin across the Disney fleet features Disney's distinctive split bathroom concept. One of the bathrooms has a vanity, sink and tub-shower, plus another bathroom with a vanity, sink and toilet. Each room also has a small refrigerator, safe and hair dryer.

Every child ages 3 to 17 will have access to Disney's kids clubs on board. Youngsters ages 3-10 can enjoy Disney's Oceaneer Club and Disney's Oceaneer Lab . Tweens ages 11-14 have access to Edge, and teens ages 14-17 can chill out in Vibe.

Each kids club has dedicated counselors and a host of activities every day. The best way to see the list of activities is to download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app and scroll through the daily agenda. You can flag activities your kids want to attend, so you can get to the kids clubs before they start.

Adult-exclusive activities

Disney cruises are packed with family-friendly programming, but adults can find spaces and events geared just for them in the adult-only nightclubs and lounges on board. Live music, interactive games and shows are only some of the nightly activities.

Additionally, adults have a dedicated pool and hot tub area that includes a bar and coffee shop. (Drinks cost extra, but access is free). For those looking to stay fit while onboard, access to the fitness center is also included.

Castaway Cay

On most Bahamas and Caribbean sailings, you'll stop at Disney's private island, Castaway Cay . At the island, your family can enjoy the family beach or adult-exclusive beach (for those 18 and older).

Use of towels, beach chairs and shade umbrellas are complimentary, as are waterslides and splash zones. Live music and character appearances take place around the island. Kids and teen club activities are available on Castaway Cay — again, at no extra charge. Runners can participate in the Castaway Cay 5K and get a finisher medal.

When it's time to eat, three spots serve an included barbecue lunch, complete with soft-serve ice cream. Coffee, tea and fountain drinks are also included at Castaway Cay.

To get around the island, you can walk or use the complimentary trams.

Are there any extra Disney costs?

Even though many activities, dining options and entertainment are included in the cost of your cruise, you will find things to pay extra for on a Disney cruise. These may or may not be worth it for your family, depending on your budget and interests. Below is a list of things not included in your overall cruise fare.

Some of the cutest Disney activities are also ones that cost extra. Kids who want more time with the Disney characters might be interested in the Royal Court Royal Tea — a tea party with characters for kids ages 3 to 12. According to planDisney (Disney's online resource for vacation-planning tips) , the cost is $220 per child and $69 for anyone 13 and up. Each tea party includes a selection of tea and a two-course meal; every child gets an assortment of gifts.

Kids can also play dress-up and get a full regal or pirate (only available on Pirate Party Nights) makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, found on every Disney ship. Depending on the package you booked for your child, expect to pay $100 to $450 for each makeover.

Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy both have a virtual sports simulator that requires a reservation and a fee. You can play various sports, from football to golf, for either 30- or 60-minute time blocks. Cost varies based on time, sport and number of people playing.

Specialty dining and cocktails

disney cruise australia cabins

Four specialty dining restaurants are offered across the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Exclusive to Disney Wish (and coming soon to Disney Treasure ) are Enchante and Palo Steakhouse. Expect to pay $60 to $205 plus an 18% auto-gratuity for a meal at Enchante; Palo Steakhouse is $50 for a prix-fixe meal, but an a la carte menu is also available.

On the four other Disney Cruise Line ships, Palo is also $50 for prix-fixe and offers an a la carte menu. An 18% auto-gratuity is also tacked onto your bill.

On Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, Remy is also available, with the dessert experience starting at $65 without the 18% auto-gratuity, while brunch and dinner are $80 and $135 respectively, plus an additional 18% auto-gratuity.

On all ships, themed bars and lounges sling drinks. Because there's no drink package available through Disney Cruise Line, you will have to pay for each drink individually. The planDisney panel says the average drink can range from $6 to $20.

If you're looking for specialty coffee, tea or hot chocolate drinks, look for the Cove Cafe on all ships; there are also specialty counters off of the atrium on Disney Dream, Fantasy and Wish. These drinks cost anywhere from $5 to $8, depending on your order. You can also order alcoholic drinks from the coffee bars, which run the typical cocktail prices.

Outside the Walt Disney Theater or near the movie theaters on board each ship, you'll also smell the buttery goodness of freshly popped popcorn. You can buy the popcorn for an added fee to take into the shows with you. Additionally, there are some specialty popcorn buckets available for purchase on each ship; you can refill them for a discounted price every time you want to munch on the salty snack. (Specialty buckets purchased off the ships at a Disney resort or theme park are not eligible for a discounted popcorn refill.)

Additionally, each ship offers beverage-tasting seminars where you can learn how to make and taste a variety of cocktails in a given category. Seminars can range from $40 to $70 and last about an hour.

While crew gratuities on Disney Cruise Line are not included in the overall cost, some can be prepaid before you step onboard. These include gratuities to your dining room server, assistant server and head server, plus your cabin host. Disney recommends a gratuity of $14.50 per night per person, including infants and children in regular cabins. It's recommended that those in concierge cabins and suites pay $15.50, with the extra going to your cabin assistant host.

Gratuities that are not included can be paid on board. Such gratuities include anything extra you would like to give to your service team, tips on alcoholic beverages in the dining room, adult dining locations, room service and the spa. The concierge lounge team is also not included in prepaid gratuities for concierge guests, and Disney recommends $8 per night per guest.

Keep in mind that an 18% gratuity is automatically added to bar tabs across the ship and for spa services. To make it easy while on the ship, you can charge all your gratuities to your onboard account.

disney cruise australia cabins

If you want to bring something home from your trip — whether from a port of call or from the onboard shops — you'll want to budget for that extra cost. Souvenirs off the ship can range from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars, depending on what you buy. Be prepared that some shops will only take local currency; purchases at Castaway Cay shops will be charged to your onboard account.

On the ship, easy-to-transport souvenirs included trading pins, magnets and apparel. These can range anywhere from $20 to $75. Other more expensive onboard souvenirs include jewelry, luxury brand purses and wallets, and art.

How do I save money on a Disney cruise?

disney cruise australia cabins

If you're reeling from sticker shock, know you can find many ways to save money on a Disney cruise. Here are a few of my favorite money-saving tips.

Letting Disney choose your cabin can be a great way to get a deal on the cruise. These are known as guaranteed rates, and they are the cheapest fares in each category. All you have to do is pick your room type, such as inside, ocean view or balcony, and Disney picks which specific room number you get. This works best if you don't care where your room is on the ship.

If you're looking for a room upgrade , but that's not a make-it-or-break-it deal for your family, consider waiting to upgrade your room until you get to the port. If your cruise still has rooms available, you can ask at check-in about a room upgrade for a discount. The cost will be relative to the room type you originally booked and the room type you want to upgrade to. Sometimes, you can even upgrade to a concierge room or a suite, but you will need to get an early port arrival time to potentially score one of those upgrades.

Disney Cruise Line has one of the most generous alcohol policies of any big-ship cruise brand. At the start of your cruise, you can bring up to six cans of beer or two bottles of wine per person over 21 years old. Then, at each port, you can restock and bring the same alcohol allotment per person over 21 onto the ship to store in your room and enjoy. You might find that beer and wine are cheaper in port than on board — a smart way to save on your drinking expenses.

Are Disney cruises cheaper or more expensive than other cruise lines?

disney cruise australia cabins

Other family-friendly cruise brands include Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises. While all of the family-friendly brands have pros and cons, picking the right one for your family can come down to a matter of cost. Disney is almost always the most expensive.

For example, we priced out a three-night weekend cruise departing on the same dates for Disney Wish and Royal Caribbean 's soon-to-debut Utopia of the Seas. We found that Disney was almost $500 more expensive for the same weekend, cabin type and length of sailing. Utopia of the Seas came out to $2,850.10 for two people staying in a balcony cabin, while the Disney Wish cruise, also in a balcony room, cost $3,337.20.

What Disney does best — and why many people choose to cruise with the brand — is it provides a high level of service to families, even those in the least expensive cabins. The crew on Disney ships goes above and beyond to make your vacation easy. I've seen everything from dining staff cutting kids' food and taking children to the bathroom to room hosts ensuring parents know about the parental locks on balcony doors (so kids can't just wander outside without an adult).

The extra amenities that Disney offers — such as Broadway-quality shows, character experiences and larger standard cabins — all bring the overall cruise cost up.

Disney also has a smaller fleet than all its family-friendly competitors, meaning there is less cabin inventory to sell. Plus, its ships generally carry fewer passengers. For example, Disney Wish, Disney's biggest ship, carries 4,000 people at full capacity; Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas can carry 7,600 guests at capacity. The low inventory combined with the high demand for Disney cruises means that Disney can charge higher fares and still fill ships.

Bottom line

Cruise fares with Disney can change based on factors like room type, travel party size and sailing date. The minimum price you can expect to pay for a cruise to the Caribbean or Bahamas starts at $1,500 for an inside cabin for two people on Disney Magic.

Disney Cruise Line includes a variety of dining experiences (including room service), soda, character meet-and-greets and Broadway-caliber entertainment in its fares; it also allows passengers to bring alcohol on board in every port of call. For these reasons, you don't necessarily have to spend much on board to have a fantastic vacation. The cruise can be a good value depending on the extras you choose to add.

The real question is whether you want to spend more on the base cruise fare to immerse yourself in the world of Disney versus paying less for another family-friendly cruise line.

How to Choose a Disney Cruise Stateroom

How to choose the best Disney Cruise Stateroom for you

By Alisha Molen

Have you decided which Disney Cruise you want to take? Great!

Once you have decided which Disney cruise itinerary is right for you, here is the next step:

Select the perfect stateroom!

Your Disney Cruise stateroom will be your home away from home for a few days and nights. It is also an important factor in the overall cost of your cruise.

What You Should Know about Disney Cruise Staterooms

Disney Cruise Line staterooms are tailored especially to families.

From split bathrooms, to bathtubs, to beds that pop out of the ceiling, to extra storage space and more, Disney has thought of everything!

In fact, their standard cabins are about 25% bigger than standard cabins on other cruise lines. Don’t get me wrong, they are still much smaller than a hotel room, but bigger than the cruise industry average.

Whatever your budget and taste, Disney Cruise Line has accommodations for every traveller. Stateroom options range from cozy and comfortable to grand and luxurious.

What Comes Standard in Every Stateroom?

First, it’s good to know what comes standard in every Disney Cruise Line stateroom:

  • A queen bed (not two twins pushed together)
  • Seating area
  • Desk area with chair and dedicated lighting
  • Privacy curtains that separate sleeping and seating areas
  • Storage: 2 closets, under bed storage space, dresser drawers
  • Hooks for towels
  • Hangers (if you need more, ask your stateroom host/hostess)
  • A mini refrigerator
  • A hairdryer
  • Television (satellite) and in-room movies
  • Full length mirror
  • In-room safes for wallets, passports, phones etc
  • Electrical outlets
  • “Wave Phones” that allow you to call and text both onboard and at Castaway Cay
  • H20 Plus -branded shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion and soap
  • Housekeeping services twice a day—Morning cleaning and nightly turndown service
  • Life jackets for each person
  • Blackout curtains (staterooms with exterior windows)
  • Split bathrooms (in most staterooms)
  • Bathtubs (in most staterooms)

About those Bathtubs

I love the fact that Disney Cruise Line has a bathtub in almost every stateroom! (Accessible rooms have roll-in showers instead of tubs.)

This is not the norm for most cruise lines.

With little kids a tub is kind of a must so it’s nice Disney thought of it all. Naturally they aren’t as big as your tub at home but they should do the trick for your kiddos.

For adults? I’d probably stick with the shower.

What is Not Included in Your Stateroom

Now that we covered what is in the stateroom, here are some items that are not included :

  • Coffeemaker
  • Ironing board

The Four Kinds of Disney Cruise Stateroom

The staterooms on Disney Cruise Line ships can be broken down into four types:

Within each of these 4 stateroom types, there are a number of “ categories ” available.

These “categories” indicate a variance within that room type such as standard or deluxe , a type of verandah, or the location - by deck or area of the ship (forward, midship, or aft).

What Do These Category Numbers Mean?

When it’s time to reserve a cabin, you’ll notice each Disney Cruise stateroom has a “category” and “number” assigned to it.

Example: 5A - Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah

These can be confusing until you learn these simple rules:

1) The higher the “number”, the less expensive the stateroom

Staterooms start at category 11 (inside staterooms) and descend to category 4 (verandah staterooms). The Concierge is the most expensive and doesn’t start with a number at all.

This is handy to know because if you compare a Category 7 stateroom with a Category 6, you know at a glance that the 7 is less expensive.

2) The “letter” indicates a location on the ship

For example, 9B is a mid-ship oceanview stateroom while 9C is forward-ship oceanview stateroom. Same floor plan, just maybe on a different deck or different part of the ship.

If there are multiple sub-categories available within a category - such as 9A, 9B, 9C, 9D - then “A” will be the most expensive and most desirable and “D” the least expensive. Of course, “most desirable” is completely subjective so take it with a grain of salt and the price difference between the subcategories is fairly minimal.

How Many Guests Can Sleep in a Stateroom?

Most regular staterooms sleeps 3-4 with a handful that sleep 5. There are also Concierge staterooms that can sleep up to 7. If you have 5+ guests in your party, check out Bonus Tip #1 below.

How to Choose Your Stateroom

Here are our recommended steps for picking the best stateroom for your voyage:

Now...Find Your Stateroom by Ship

Here's a stateroom guide by ship: >> Disney Magic & Disney Wonder Stateroom Guide >> Disney Dream & Disney Fantasy Stateroom Guide >> Disney Wish Stateroom Guide

BONUS TIPS FOR SELECTING A STATEROOM

1) big family consider connecting staterooms.

If your group has more than 4 guests, you'll have a couple of different options for staterooms.

  • A Family Oceanview stateroom or a Suite (sleeps 5 to 7 guests)
  • Two connecting staterooms (sleeps up to 8 guests)

Connecting staterooms are two rooms that have a door between the adjoining wall.

You can leave the door always open to keep an eye on the little ones in the other room, or close it for privacy. It’s kinda like having your own little two-bedroom suite but for less moo-lah.

Which brings me to my next point...

Many times, getting two connecting staterooms is cheaper than one Family Oceanview stateroom or Suite. Crunch the numbers and see what will work best for your family.

NOTE: Just remember that you must have at least one adult booked in each stateroom.

How many connecting staterooms are on each ship?

There are 137 connecting staterooms on both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.

On both the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, there are over 500 connecting staterooms.

How do you know which rooms connect?

When selecting a stateroom, look for the little “doors” that open in between the cabins. If there are doors on the adjoining wall, that means it’s a connecting room.

For example, in the photo below, cabins 7064 and 7066 connect.

disney cruise australia cabins

2) View of Beach at Castaway Cay

Want a view of the beach when in dock at Castaway Cay ?

Book a room on the starboard (right) side of the ship.

Disney ships will usually back into Castaway Cay’s dock, so the port (left) side cabins will face the dock and the tram area while the starboard (right) side cabins will face the beaches on Castaway Cay.

Just know, this is not a guarantee.

Sometimes there are conditions that will require docking in the opposite direction.

3) If You’re On the Fence About a Verandah

First things first...let's start with this question:

What is a verandah?

A verandah stateroom on a Disney Cruise Line ship is simply a room with a balcony attached.

It is a wonderful experience to stand on your verandah and breathe in the fresh ocean air.

A DCL verandah also offers extra visibility when at port or sailing through a particularly scenic area.

If you’re debating whether to add the additional expense of a verandah (instead of an oceanview) cabin, here are some points to consider in favor of a verandah:

  • Verandahs are more valuable on cruises where there is a lot of scenery. Alaska, Panama, and Mediterranean itineraries, for example.
  • If you have a young child that will require a lot of naps in your stateroom, having a verandah gives the parent a place to escape to look at the view, read a book, and enjoy some room service while you wait with the little one.

4) To Avoid Noise, Have Staterooms All Around You

By booking a stateroom that has other cabins above, below and to all sides, you're able to insulate yourself from any possible ship noise (laundry, sundecks, engine, restaurants, theatres, etc).

5) Request a Crib When You Book

You can request a crib for your baby when you book your cruise. If you have already booked your cruise, go to My Reservations to make your request.

The Disney Wonder is officially down under!

Disney Cruise Line will mark another incredible milestone on Oct. 28 when the Disney Wonder sets sail from the shores of Australia for the first time ever, embarking on the inaugural “Disney Magic at Sea” cruise for families in Australia and New Zealand. These two-night to six-night special Disney Cruise sailings continue through February 2024 and allow guests to experience the magic of Disney right in their backyard, with cruises departing from four different home ports: Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand.

Guests will be immersed in their favorite Disney stories during the “ Disney Magic at Sea ” cruises, with activities and spaces for everyone in the family to enjoy, including the imaginative dining and world-class entertainment that Disney Cruise Line is known for. New versions of the “Heroes Unite” deck party and “Crush’s Totally Awesome Pool Party,” as well as special character encounters including Moana’s first appearance on the high seas will allow guests to experience Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars stories and characters in new ways.

We’re also excited about the return of Disney Cruise Line to Australia and New Zealand in the fall of 2024 for a second season of vacations, with departures running from October 2024 to February 2025! On its way back to Australia, the Disney Wonder will first embark on a set of bucket-list itineraries , sailing from Vancouver, Canada, to Honolulu, Hawaii, in late September 2024 with stops on the islands of Kauai, Maui, Hawaii and Oahu. From Hawaii, families will set sail on a transpacific voyage to Sydney, Australia, that will visit once-in-a-lifetime destinations such as Fiji, American Samoa and New Caledonia.

The arrival into Australia is another part of Disney Cruise Line’s unprecedented expansion. With three new ships planned through 2025 and exciting new itineraries around the world, we are thrilled to bring Disney magic at sea to families across the globe for the first time.

We hope to see ya real soon!

Everything you need to know about your Disney cruise in Australia and New Zealand

Disney Cruise Line is coming to Australia for a limited season from October 2023 to Feb 2024 and we are so crazy excited! This is the first time ever that Disney has cruised from our Aussie and Kiwi ports and the first time that we don’t have to travel overseas for some of that special Disney magic.

I was at the Disney Cruise Line Australian & New Zealand launch last night and honestly if you were on the fence about booking I 100% say to you – get off it and book that stateroom! Yes, it’s an expensive holiday but it’s an investment in memories and happiness and we all have a year to save (you only need to pay a 20% deposit). These cruises are going to be amazing and create the most incredible memories for us and our families – all in I say!

Everything Disney does is perfection and they think of everything and more to make their cruises the best experience you could ever have. I was lucky eonugh to speak with the President of Disney Signature Experiences, Thomas Mazloum , last night at the launch and his excitement of bringing Disney Cruise Line to Australia and sharing the joy of Disney brought even more anticipation of how truly amazing these cruises will be. Thioams said Disey Cruise Line is the ultimate Disney experience and I am now truly desperate to climb aboard.

Thomas also said that the Disney Wonder IS the destination. Yes we will be sailing to ports or out at sea but that’s not the reason to be on the ship. The reason to be there is to immerse ourselves in the Disney cruise experience and the Disney Magic at sea. I will be there!

Here is a quick guide to booking. But read on for more info about the cruises.

What’s included:

  • Your spacious stateroom with split bathroom
  • TV with Disney movies
  • Meals, softdrinks, tea, coffee, water
  • Snacks and icecream
  • 24 hour room service
  • Broadway standard stage shows and performances
  • Deck parties
  • Character meet and greets
  • Oceaneers Club and Oceaneers Lab for 3 – 12 years old plus the Edge for tweens and X for teens
  • Adults only pool area
  • Goofy’s Pool and waterplay area
  • Disney Dining at Tatiana’s Place and the Animators Palate

The Disney magic.

I have to say that the Disney magic is so strong you feel like it must be tangible. It’s something that you never forget once you experience it and it is going to be on the Disney Wonder x infinity. I just want you to know that it will be so special and once you experience this magic you will know it and crave it – it’s why Disney fans like me and Emmie keep returning over and over again.

The Disney castmembers.

Disney castmembers are the foundation of the Disney experience and bring the joy every moment. Disney Cruise Line has added special touches to elevate guests dining experiences (which are incredible – more on those in a bit) like having the same servers throughout the trip, so while guests dine at three different restaurants you will have the same people with your at each restaurant. This is so cool because you do become friendly with the staff at mealtimes – one of the Balinese men who worked our table on our Royal Carribbean cruise earlier this year is coming to Sydney on a ship in December and we are taking him to dinner. It’s so nice to share the joy.

Fireworks at sea.

Thomas also revealed that there WILL be fireworks on the Disney cruises in Australia and New Zealand whooooooo!

Disney deck parties.

And Jimmy the Cruise Director told us about the famous Disney deck parties that will happen every night. Double whoooo!

Seeing your children meet a real Disney Princess or superhero.

I mean, you just can’t put a price on it! Kids will love meeting Disney characters on board the Disney Wonder – a character meets, in the Oceaneers Clubs, at Dinsey dining and just as they wander around. Seeing your childs face light up is just one of the best moments ever! I really want Emmie to join the Superhero Academy – in fact I wish they would extend this for adults too! I want to be a superhero!

Incredible original Disney productions.

Disney productions are like no other – the professionalism and calibre is mind blowing and I can’t wait to see performances of both watch Frozen: A Musical Spectacular and our favourite superhero when Marvel Heroes Unite.

Fabulous staterooms.

I haven’t cruised myself but I have been researching these rooms and they sound amazing. Of coursed Disney has those extra touches for families – like curtains to separate the bed and lounge so kids can nap, and a separate bathroom and toilet to make getting ready easier. They also have extra storage and space. You can book a range of rooms from concierge and balcony to a porthole and inside cabin. Personally I would love to have a balcony but I reckon I won’t be in the room much this trip so I will go for an inside cabin.

Incredible Disney dining.

Disney of course does everything so incredibly well, I just cant say that enough, and the dining options on board are so unique that you will just love them. I cant wait for both these specilaity restaurants where the food is first class and the dining experience is created to transport you into another world – the world of animation at the Animators Palate and into New Orleans at Tiana’s Place where live jazz, storytelling and of course, Princess Tiana!

I can’t wait to visit the Animators Palate – this is the renewed Disney dining experience that brings imagination to life through animation…watch the walls around you as they tell stories and draw your own animation and see it appear on the walls too. I can’t wait to see this !

How this mum of six booked 100 cabins for Disney’s inaugural Australian season

The disney cruise phenomenon that swept australia last month ended up being a ‘disney miracle’ for one small family melbourne travel agency after they saw their busiest day on record on thursday, september 29..

After Hurricane Ian effectively shuttered Disney Cruise Line’s website, Mr Chocolate’s Travel owner and mum-of-six Rebecca Mason and her family were forced to rise in the early hours to weather the proverbial storm of bookings,  as they were one of the few Australian agencies that were offered a direct booking portal to sell Disney cruises.

They managed to book more than 100 cabins on Disney’s Australian cruises before they sold out.

“We were so busy,” Rebecca tells Cruise Passenger  of organising booking for the highly-anticipated cruise.

“On that Thursday morning, I got up and rallied the troops to be in the office at 2 am,” adding that she enlisted the help of her daughter – an emergency nurse – as well as her husband to deal with the mountain of bookings.

“We’re only just recovering!” she added.

Rebecca, who is a lifelong Disney fan and one of the first to cruise on Disney Wish recently, has also written a book about how to make Disney dreams come true after successfully getting her family of eight to several Disney parks.

Now, she’s hoping to make the Disney dream come true for more families who missed out on booking Disney’s coveted Magic at Seas cruises in Australia and New Zealand in 2023.

“We’ve been in the Disney game for a long time so understand the power of Disney but even we were surprised by how desperate Aussie families were to get on a Disney cruise and give their kids a taste of Disney down under,” she explained.

“For many families, overseas Disney parks are out of reach so there were a lot of tears when we confirmed a coveted spot onboard Disney Wonder during its first Australian season. We made a lot of Disney dreams come true and that makes me so happy.”

For those who weren’t lucky enough to get a booking the first time around, Rebecca remains hopeful that she will still be able to make some more dreams come true, adding, “We’ve got an active waitlist, and were constantly going through and looking for cancellations coming through the system.”

In more good news for Disney fans, two Transpacific voyages will also go on sale this Thursday, October 13, offering one more opportunity to experience Disney down under when Disney Wonder sails into Sydney in October next year and departs Sydney in February 2024.

The two Transpacific voyages on Disney Wonder include:

  • A 13-night voyage from Honolulu to Sydney departing October 13, 2023, priced from $3950 per person twin share
  • A 15-night voyage from Sydney to Honolulu departing February 16, 2024, priced from $4800 per person twin share

To experience the magic of being the first to cruise into Sydney on a Disney cruise ship, sign up for one of the coveted cabins on the Transpacific voyages at Australia’s specialist Mr Chocolate’s Travel,  here .

Or, to join the waitlist for Disney Wonder’s Australian and New Zealand voyages register at Mr Chocolate’s Travel here .

A huge Disney fan herself, Rebecca is planning to take not only one but two cruises on the famous cruise line next year.

“I’m so excited! I’m going on one with my husband in April to Mexico – but we’ve also booked a cabin for the 3rd of November out of Melbourne for Disney’s Magic at Sea,” she said adding , “ We don’t mind doing double – or even triple – Disney!”

Magic at Sea  cruises will set sail from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Auckland between October 2023 to February 2024, with sailings aboard the 2,400-passenger  Wonder  ranging from two to six nights and departing from four home ports: Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, as well as Auckland.

While the Wonder is down under, you might need to post their ports a day ahead of time since they are a day ahead of the US. That way we can see the ship in port in beautiful Sydney. We just disembarked her last Friday and loved the cruise from Honolulu to Sydney!

This feature enhancement has been on my to do list. Thanks to you, I applied an update to show the next day for the Wonder while deployed in Australia and New Zealand.

7 amazing cruise itineraries to book in 2024

I don't know about you, but each year, as the weather turns cold, I start daydreaming about getting out of Dodge — or, in my case, Pennsylvania. My mind wanders to cruises that will take me to places where the temperature is warmer, but I also take a hard look at the (exceptionally lengthy) list of places I'm longing to visit.

After digging through what's new for 2024, I've come up with a shortlist of sailings that I think are noteworthy. They range from a standard Bahamas voyage with a new twist and an extended Alaska sailing that includes a foray across the Arctic Circle to more far-flung destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Dream on, dear reader, and add these to your list of 2024 cruise itineraries.

Note: All prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Fares do not include taxes and fees.

Seabourn's 'Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas' itinerary

Last year, the Australia and New Zealand cruise region gained momentum following the pandemic shutdown. In 2024, the hardly populated Australia region of The Kimberley is gaining popularity. Luxury cruise brand Seabourn will be offering a series of six 10-night voyages between Broome and Darwin on expedition vessel Seabourn Pursuit during what will be early winter in the southern hemisphere.

The line's " Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas " will take passengers to places along the coast few passengers are able to visit to see the stunning teal waters and horizontal waterfalls of Talbot Bay, sample wines in the Hunter River Region and check out nature preserves in Wyndham.

Details: The first sailing, from Darwin to Broome, embarks on June 12. The final voyage, from Broome to Darwin, departs on Aug. 1. Prices start from $6,134 per person ($613 per person, per night), double occupancy, for the July 2 cruise. All accommodations are suites with balconies.

Celebrity's 'Best of Japan' and 'Vietnam and Thailand' cruises

The number of voyages in Asia was trending upward notably prior to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought cruising in the region to an extended halt. And it's once again on the rise. Following that curve, Celebrity Cruises will be running new 11- to 13-night Asia sailings in 2024 on two ships — Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Solstice — that bring stops in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand.

What's notable about the offerings is that they will aim to immerse passengers further into the destinations by including overnights in a total of 11 ports across all itineraries. That means more time to explore Hanoi's Old Quarter as the sun sets, indulge in nighttime gastronomy in Hong Kong, visit one of Bangkok's many markets, or learn why Osaka is known for street food.

Details: Celebrity Millennium's " Best of Japan " cruises run from early mid-March to early October. At press time, the least expensive fares — for a 12-night sailing — start from $1,330 per person ($111 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. It travels round-trip from Yokohama and visits Hiroshima, Pusan and other ports, including Osaka, where the ship will overnight.

Celerbrity Solstice's Vietnam and Thailand cruises kick off in mid-January and run through March. The ship will resume them again in the fall of 2024 and run through the winter season. Prices start from $1,255 per person ($105 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. The voyage sails from Hong Kong to Singapore with stops in Da Nang and Koh Samui, plus overnights in Hanoi and Bangkok.

SeaDream's 'Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles' sailing

Here's one to put on your radar if you're looking to book — but not necessarily sail — in 2024. It's a new Mediterranean itinerary that doesn't start up for nearly three more years, in 2026. The SeaDream routing brings stops at seven ports that are rarely visited by cruise passengers. During the seven-night voyages, there will be calls at Primosten, Croatia; Cesme, Turkey; Cetubal, Portugal; and Kythira, Kythnos, Syvota and Tinos, Greece — making these sailings unique and well-suited to anyone who loves the region but who's looking for new places to experience.

SeaDream's small ships, each of which carries just 112 people, are able to reach locales about which passengers on megaships can only fantasize. Couple that with excellent service, and you'll be visiting the Our Lady of Loretto statue in Primosten, touring the Cesme Castle and lounging on stunning Greek beaches from a home base that puts you squarely in the lap of luxury.

Details: An itinerary that includes three of the seven new ports is the 11-night " Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles " itinerary from Venice, Italy, to Athens, Greece, departing on Aug. 8, 2026, on SeaDream I. Prices start from $10,399 per person ($946 per person, per night) for a room with a porthole view.

Holland America's 'Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice' Legendary Voyage

Alaska is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys the vastness of untouched wilderness, the wildlife it houses and adventurous pursuits it provides. (Think whale-watching, hiking on glaciers and salmon fishing.) However, Holland America 's Westerdam is hosting a 28-day sailing that's anything but your standard cruise to the Last Frontier .

Passengers will visit the usual Alaska ports, such as Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, with scenic sailing through the Inside Passage, past Hubbard Glacier and to Glacier Bay. But they can also expect less-common stops at places like Nome, Kodiak, Anchorage (with an overnight) and Homer. Plus, about halfway through, this cruise crosses the Arctic Circle — a rite of passage for many travelers.

Details: Holland America's 28-day " Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice " cruise — one of the line's Legendary Voyages, known for longer durations and a unique mix of port calls — sails June 9-July 7, round-trip from Seattle. Inside cabins start from $5,299 per person (about $189 per person, per night).

Silversea's summertime French Polynesia cruises

Another consideration for future travel is Silversea Cruises , which is featuring its first full-summer season in French Polynesia in 2026. Silver Whisper will offer two immersive itineraries, including overnights, across 17 voyages between April and September.

Passengers can choose seven-night sailings that visit idyllic favorites like Tahiti, Moorea and Huahine and which also include overnights in Bora Bora. Or, they can cruise for twice as long by selecting a 14-night voyage that calls on the same ports as the seven-night option but with Fakarava, Nuku Hiva, Fatu Hiva, Atuona and Tahuata added.

Details: Silversea's seven-night voyages begin April 6, 2026, and start from $5,650 per person ($808 per person, per night) for an ocean-view cabin.

The line's 14-night sailings start on April 20, 2026. Fares start from $10,450 per person ($747 per person, per night) for ocean-view accommodations.

New Bermuda voyages on Carnival Venezia

Beginning in May of 2025, Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Venezia will sail a series of eight four- and five-night cruises to Bermuda from New York. These itineraries are notable because the line is aiming to increase its presence there but also because the style of the ship is new to even most of the brand's most dedicated passengers.

In 2022, Carnival announced its Costa by Carnival concept after revealing it would be transferring ships from its Costa sister brand to the Carnival fleet. Now, when travelers visit the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse or check out the island's renowned pink-sand beaches during a sailing on Carnival Venezia, they can enjoy both the Italian style of the ship and Carnival's fun atmosphere and high service standards.

Details: Voyages kick off on May 22, 2025. Prices start from $429 per person ($108 per person, per night) for an inside cabin on a four-night cruise departing Sept. 18, 2025.

Disney Cruise Line's Lighthouse Point itineraries

Disney Cruise Line 's new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , a private destination on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, is set to open in June with a three-night preview sailing on June 6 aboard Disney Magic. Following the initial voyage, the line will run regular three- to seven-night voyages to Lighthouse Point on Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream.

The island will feature a dedicated family beach and water play area, an arts and culture pavilion focused on Bahamian culture, 20 family cabanas, an adults-only beach and a selection of shore excursion options.

Details: Prices for itineraries that include Lighthouse Point start from $624 per person ($208 per person, per night) for a three-night cruise on Disney Magic. The cruise departs Nov. 5 and sails from Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
