The definitive guide to ‘Home Alone 2’ filming locations in NYC

The Christmas classic was filmed all over Manhattan

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is one of those sequels that very well might live up to, or even surpass, its progenitor. Why? Instead of taking place in the suburbs of Chicago , the beloved 1992 classic is a romp around the holiday season's most festive city: New York.

In the John Hughes-Chris Columbus collaboration, Macaulay Culkin returns as maligned youngest child Kevin McCallister, separated from his family once again during what's supposed to be the happiest time of the year. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are back as bad guys Harry and Marv, recently escaped from prison and out to steal some cash from a toy store on Christmas—before they run into Kevin in the Big Apple and decide to seek revenge from the precocious kid's prior-year high jinks instead.

From the Plaza and Central Park to the World Trade Center and an under-renovation townhouse, what follows is the ultimate geographic guide to where Home Alone 2 is set across New York City. And hey: Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals.

This map was originally published in 2014; it has been updated with the latest information.

LaGuardia Airport

Our first glimpse of New York City is through the window of LaGuardia Airport. Kevin gets separated from his family at O'Hare, digging through his dad's carry-on for batteries. (Those were for his super-blocky Talkboy tape recorder.) When he looks up, he'd lost them, and follows another man in a tan coat onto a plane bound for LGA rather than MIA. Kevin asks an airport staffer, "This is an emergency. What city is that over there?" The answer: "That's New York, sir." Kevin: "Yikes, I did it again."

Pepsi-Cola Sign

At the airport, Kevin looks out at Long Island City's Pepsi-Cola sign and the East River skyline, and the screen flashes to and from various cityscape shots. We get a sense of the enormity of the place and the tiny-ness of this child. At first, Kevin says nervously, "Oh no, my family's in Florida and I'm in New York." Then he smiles. "My family's in Florida. I'm in New York." Eyebrow raise. It's go time.

A red, neon sign situated on a waterfront in front of buildings. The sign reads “Pepsi-Cola” and has a large bottle next to it.

Queensboro Bridge

Kevin still has his dad's carry-on, and in it, a credit card and an envelope of cash. Obviously, that means a yellow cab into the city, via the Queensboro Bridge. Grinning, Kevin leans out the rear window in his striped winter hat, and you get the feeling that his Ferris Bueller's Day Off is about to begin.

A suspension bridge connecting two land masses, with buildings on either side.

Radio City Music Hall

In addition to his recorder, Kevin also has a Polaroid camera. First things first: he hits up the sights. Back in the suburbs of Chicago, remember, he said: "Who wants to spend Christmas in a tropical climate anyway? … If I had my own money, I'd go on my own vacation. Alone, without any of you guys. And I'd have the most fun of my whole life." Up first, Radio City Music Hall.

Battery Park

Then it's down to Battery Park, where Kevin gazes out at the harbor through those old-school binoculars.

An aerial view of a large park with trees and open space. It is surrounded by several tall buildings.

Statue of Liberty

Naturally, he sees Lady Liberty through those lenses. Super symbolic, because you see, he is free of his family. Not  lost  in New York, but independent and having a grand old time.

World Trade Center

Kevin marches up the steps to the old World Trade Center complex, nine years before it would be no more. He goes to the observation deck of the south tower and photographs the vistas from it. You get the sense, again, that this is a smart-yet-naive Midwestern kid having a fun day out but at the same time getting a little bit awed by the big city even from so many stories up.

A boy in outdoor winter clothing walks up snow-covered stairs towards a group of large buildings.

Fulton Fish Market

At the Miami airport, security tells Kevin's parents it's unlikely he'll be anywhere but still stuck in Chicago. The camera pans to the South Street Seaport's erstwhile Fulton Fish Market (which  moved to Hunts Point in 2005 ). A backpack-toting Kevin crosses the street; meanwhile a white truck makes a turn, honks at him, and rolls up the back to reveal Harry and Marv. They're recently out of prison and stowing away with a shipment of seafood on ice.

A black and white photo of a building used to store fish.

57 Street Subway Station

Harry and Marv evade the dead fish and find their way to Midtown via the N/Q subway line, discussing their plan to get some cash in order to procure fake passports and flee to South America. Marv supports changing their nickname from the Wet Bandits (so called because they used to leave the water on in houses they robbed) to the Sticky Bandits. He plunges a tape-covered hand into a streetside Salvation Army bucket. Counters Harry: "You bust out of jail to rob 14 cents from a Santy Claus?"

Two men walk up the stairs out of a Subway station. The sign above the entryway to the station reads Q.

Central Park

Kevin meets  the Pigeon Lady  the first time he steps foot in the park, but many crucial moments take place here, most either down near Wollman Rink and Central Park South, or up by the Upper West Side and the 96th Street Transverse. During his first visit, though, he encounters the Pigeon Lady and bolts.

A path in a park with trees arching overhead. There are leaves on the ground and fences on either side of the pathway.

Grand Army Plaza

Kevin is coming from the park, headed to his accommodation for the night. The statue at Grand Army Plaza points the way across the street to the hotel. Crossing the busy intersection here, at 59th Street, is where Marv and Harry first (literally) bump into Kevin.

An open plaza in the middle of a crowded city. There is a gold statue in the middle of the plaza.

Before leaving Chicago, Kevin had heard a commercial touting "the world-renowned Plaza Hotel, New York's most exciting hotel experience." Naturally, he heads there, with his dad's credit card in hand. With some conniving he's able to get a sweet suite (No. 411, for anyone keeping track). The kid gets a giant bed and bathroom, orders an ice cream sundae bar via room service, and does cannonballs into the hotel pool, all while trying to convince hotel staff that his dad is actually with him. It's in the suite where he watches  a parody of the James Cagney/Humphrey Bogart movie Angels With Dirty Faces,  in which this signature line appears: "Merry Christmas, you filthy animal. And a Happy New Year."

A group of large city buildings. There is a street in front of the buildings with yellow taxi cabs.

Wollman Rink

Harry and Marv are by Wollman Rink, at the southern end of Central Park. Marv is skating (and falling) while Harry is reading the paper and plotting how to get some cash. During the holidays, Harry says, "the only stores that are going to have cash on hand are those that deal in moderate priced goods." He points to a full-page ad for Duncan's Toy Chest. "There's nobody dumb enough to knock off a toy store on Christmas Eve," Harry jibes. Marv answers, "Oh, yes there is," and gestures to both of them.

Duncan’s Toy Chest

As soon as Kevin's settled, he finagles a limousine with a side of hot cheese pizza, calling the driver from the backseat to inquire about a good toy store. He ends up at Duncan's Toy Chest, the kiddie wonderland that's decorated to the nines for Christmas and sports a kindly gray-haired owner. In real life, Duncan's is meant to be FAO Schwarz. (Though since FAO is across the street from the Plaza, he could have just walked; also,  the actual building with this facade is in Chicago , so the geography is all messed up.) Kevin purchases a map of New York, green slime goo, and a Swiss Army knife. It all cost $23.75. Harry and Marv are also inside the store, scoping out their hiding places inside playhouses advance of the Christmas Eve heist. They see Kevin outside and recognize his backpack. A chase begins!

Van Cleef & Arpels

Kevin springs by the Van Cleef and Arpels store on Fifth Avenue, and hurriedly stops to buy a few necklaces off a street vendor. He rips them apart, so Harry and Marv trip on the beads.

Bethesda Fountain

Kevin tries to escape to the Plaza, but the staff has caught on that the credit card he used to pay for the room was stolen and want to kick him out. Harry and Marv are waiting by the loading dock when Kevin flees the hotel. Marv lets their plan about the toy store and South America slip. After Kevin wriggles away from the Wet Bandits, the duo chases Kevin to  Bethesda Fountain in Central Park —a long way to run, mind you. When they lose him, Marv reassures Harry: "This time, he doesn't have a house full of dangerous goodies to get us with. He's in the park. He's alone. Kids are scared of the park." (Remember, it was the ’90s.) Harry responds: "Yeah, grown men come into the park and don't leave alive. Good luck, little fella."

Carnegie Hall

The Pigeon Lady (we never do learn her real name) takes Kevin to some secret rooftop spot at Carnegie Hall, full of disused instruments, mannequins, and old chandeliers, and they hear a rendition of "O Come All Ye Faithful." The two of them bond over being invisible to the world; her because she's homeless, and him because he is the youngest. She reminds him that good deeds can replace bad ones, and that he can make up for running away but, basically, saving the day.

St. Anne's Hospital for Children

Kevin stops by the fictional St. Anne's Hospital for Children, the charity to which all of Duncan's Toy Chest's proceeds from Christmas Eve day go. (The facade is an actual building in Harlem.) Kevin is empowered and emboldened: "You can mess with a lot of things, but you can't mess with kids on Christmas."

A large building with many windows at night. The sign on the building reads St. Anne’s Hospital for Children.

Rob McAllister’s House

Kevin's uncle Rob and aunt Georgette have a townhouse on 95th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. He finds the address in his dad's contacts, which were in the backpack, but after seeking refuge there earlier, realizes that no one is home and the house is undergoing a gut renovation. This brownstone is where Kevin leads Harry and Marv the night of the toy store robbery in order to test the limits of physical comedy for a PG movie by enacting all kinds of bodily harm upon the hapless villains.

A row of townhouses with stairs leading up to various entrances. There are winter holiday decorations on several of the houses.

“In the park”

Kevin makes a 911 call from an Upper West Side phone booth and tells the dispatcher that the thieves who robbed Duncan's Toy Chest will be in the park at 95th Street. "Look for fireworks. They've got a gun." Then he slips on ice, and the dastardly duo walks him into the park. Ultimately, the Pigeon Lady throws feed onto the very sticky Sticky Bandits, swarms of pigeons peck away, and Kevin is able to set off fireworks to alert the police to their presence. In the bag of stolen money, he leaves Polaroids of the guys at the toy store as well as the tape recording of Marv explaining the plan. The money is delivered to the hospital as intended, and Mr. Duncan finds out Kevin was responsible.

A boy in outdoor winter clothing stands at a payphone with the phone to his ear. It is night and in the background are city lights.

Times Square

By this point, all the McAllisters are in New York. The Plaza feels so guilty that its staffers scared Kevin off because of the credit card fraud that they give the family a free penthouse suite (No. 1765). Kevin's mom, played by Catherine O'Hara, hopped a taxi to Times Square after first checking the uncle's house, right before Kevin arrived to give the Sticky Bandits what for. Mom says to strangers, "I'm looking for my son," showing photos of him and knocking on the door of a police car. The officer advises: "Put yourself in your kids' shoes. Where would you go? What would you do?" Kate says: "Dear God, I know where he is. I need to get to Rockefeller Center." The NYPD officer: "Hop in."

After emerging victorious over Marv and Harry, Kevin heads to the iconic giant tree. Then he talks to it: "I know I don't deserve a Christmas, even though I did a good deed. I don't want any presents. Instead I want to take back every mean thing I ever said to my family. ... Could I just see my mother? I just want my mother." And then, because of the magic of movies, his mom shows up. "Kevin!" she cries. Kevin mutters, "Wow, that worked fast. … How did you know I was here?" Mrs. McA: "Well, I know you and Christmas trees, and this was the biggest one around." They return to the Plaza. It starts to snow. Meanwhile, trucks unload dozens of toys as tokens of thanks from Duncan's Toy Chest, and Kevin gives a turtle dove ornament to the Pigeon Lady as a sign of eternal friendship. Then his dad bellows something about a $967.43 room service bill. ( Dads. ) That  familiar, heart-wrenching refrain  that's part of the score—"Somewhere In My Memory—starts to play. As Kevin says, "Don't you know a kid always wins against two idiots?"

15 Home Alone 2 Lost in New York Film Locations

visit home alone house new york

KEVIN!!!! Check out these Home Alone 2: Lost in New York film locations on your trip to the Big Apple! It’s no doubt one of the most popular Christmas movies of all time and has a cult-like following featuring not only our favorite trouble maker Kevin McCallister somehow get separated from his family again at the holidays, but this time lost in the Big Apple!

The second entry of the franchise, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York in particular has developed something of cult status since its 1992 release. One of the main reasons this second movie works is the change of scenery—New York City.

This is also one of the best Christmas movies set in NYC and with our guide you can even visit some of the best Home Alone 2 NYC locations!

Home Alone New York Locations

Laguardia airport.

After losing sight of his family and boarding the wrong flight, Kevin (played by Macaulay Culkin) gets introduced to Home Alone 2 filming locations in NYC via LaGuardia Airport—kicking off the rest of the movie and story.

Out of all Home Alone 2 filming locations, this is the only one located in Queens (at Grand Central Pkwy). This airport has been notoriously hard to get around, but has made significant modifications in recent years to improve the customer experience!

This is also where Kevin looks out the window at the airport and sees Long Island City’s Pepsi Cola sign at Gantry Plaza State Park. This is when Kevin realizes the gravity of the situation and that he’s alone once again!

Queensboro Bridge

new-york-city-with-queensboro-bridge

Armed with his father’s credit card and an envelope of cash, we see Kevin confidently charge into the city by a cool vintage yellow cab. It’s during this cab ride, we get to see the second Home Alone 2 NYC location and viewers are treated to a view of the one and only Queensboro Bridge!

This is one of the most recognizable and famous bridges in NYC . Standing tall over the East River, this cantilever bridge has been around since 1901 and the view is simply gorgeous (Especially during sunrise)!

Plaza Hotel

Entrance-to-the-Plaza-Hotel-in-NYC

Kevin then goes on to book a room at Plaza Hotel, one of the most iconic hotels in New York City as well as the fanciest of Home Alone’s New York locations! Through some of his trademark trickery, Kevin ends up landing a pretty nice room with a huge bed and bathroom!

This hotel is located in Manhattan (at 750 5th Avenue and Central Park South). It’s one of the more luxurious options in the city and is used as a focal point throughout the movie from when Kevin checks in to the shenanigans he gets into during his stay at the hotel trying to convince the staff he’s not committing credit card fraud to the final scene in the movie.

This is also where we get to see Kevin watch Angels with Even Filthier Souls which is a sequel to the first Home Alone film and a parody of the Humphrey Bogard movie Angels with Dirty Faces . This Home Alone 2 filming location in NYC is where we get the famous line, “Merry Christmas, you filthy animal. And a Happy New Year.”

Radio City Music Hall

View this post on Instagram                         A post shared by Tea-toe Meh He Ahh (@teatoetravels)

Deciding to explore the city, one of Kevin’s first stops is Radio City Music Hall, where he takes pictures of this famous music venue with his Polaroid camera. Radio City Music Hall is easily one of the most legendary Home Alone 2 filming locations in NYC where Kevin is running around sightseeing.

Existing within Rockefeller Center in Midtown (At 1260 6th Ave), this juggernaut of Home Alone New York locations has housed performances of many musicians and comedians alike.

Beautiful inside and out, Radio City Music Hall is one of many Home Alone 2 film locations that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime especially since the holiday season is when the famous Rockette’s Holiday Spectacular show is, one of the best things to do in NYC at Christmas .

Empire Diner

View this post on Instagram                         A post shared by Empire Diner NYC (@empire_diner)

One of the most iconic diners in NYC , the Empire Diner makes a very short cameo in comparison to other Home Alone 2 NYC locations. In this scene, Kevin grabs a flyer from a Santa on stilts. A highlight for any visitor for sure!

Located in Chelsea (At 210 10th Ave), this American restaurant is famous for its old school sensibilities and their larger than average portion sizes. It’s one of the few Home Alone 2 filming locations to maintain its older style over the years. If you’re in the neighborhood, give it a try!

World Trade Center

The next Home Alone 2 NYC filming location features Kevin visiting the former World Trade Center. He explores the complex and takes photos as if he were a grown adult—and not a child alone in the big city.

As most people know, the former World Trade Center featured in the film, unlike many Home Alone New York locations is no longer there, this was filmed 9 years before the horrific events of September 11th.

Now you can pay your respects at the memorial located at 180 Greenwich St to the victims of the attacks.

Wollman Rink

Wollman-Ice-Rink-in-Central-Park-in-winter-NYC

It’s at this Home Alone 2 film location where Marv (Played by Daniel Stern) is trying to (but miserably failing) to skate, while Harry (Played Joe Pesci) is reading the newspaper.

In the newspaper, he finds an ad for “Duncan’s Toy Chest” and the two hatch a plan to rob the store on Christmas Eve. This is also where Marv snatches a scarf and earmuffs off fellow skaters.

The Wollman Rink is located in Central Park (between 62nd and 63rd Street) and is one of the most famous ice rinks in NYC. Home Alone 2 isn’t the only film to use this rink as a filming location. It has been used in several other movies—including fellow New York Christmas film Serendipity (2001)!

You’ll feel like you’re in a movie yourself when skating at this famous rink.

Duncan’s Toy Chest

View this post on Instagram                         A post shared by LA architecture tours (@architecturetours)

Kevin enters Duncan’s Toy Chest and meets Mr. Duncan (Played by Eddie Braken) himself. After finding out the store’s proceedings are going to a children’s hospital, Kevin decides to give a donation himself.

As gratitude, the owner gives him two ceramic turtle doves, telling him that by giving one of the doves to another person it would forever cement a friendship between him and that person.

Similar to a few other Home Alone 2 film locations, Duncan’s Toy Chest is a fictional place. It’s based on the FAO Schwartz toy store located in Manhattan (At 5th Ave and 59th Street).

This store has since been moved over to 30 Rockefeller Plaza and the facade used in the film is actually the Rookery building in Chicago – but it’s still worth mentioning because FAO Schwartz is still fun to visit and was also featured in the movie Big starring Tom Hanks, one of the best movies set in NYC !

Central Park – Bethesda Fountain

After running into Harry and Marv outside the toy store, Kevin seeks refuge at the Plaza only to be confronted about using a stolen credit card—resulting in him having to leave.

After once again being confronted by Harry and Marv, Kevin is chased through Central Park and we’re introduced to another one of Home Alone 2’s locations—the Bethesda fountain.

The Bethesda Terrace is located in Central Park (at 72 Terrace Dr) and is a popular filming location in NYC . The fountain itself is one of the biggest fountains in the city and serves as a centerpiece to the terrace! There’s plenty to like about this Home Alone 2 film location, and it’s definitely worth the visit.

This is also an Elf filming location in NYC too, another holiday cult classic! While you’re here explore the best hidden gems in Central Park too.

Another Home Alone 2 film location in Central Park is right next to the Gastpow Bridge over The Pond where he embraces The Pigeon Lady at the end of the movie when he says goodbye to his NYC friend. In another scene in Central Park, The Pigeon Lady saves Kevin from the bandits right outside the Inscope Arch too.

Carnegie Hall

View this post on Instagram                         A post shared by Carnegie Hall (@carnegiehall)

In Central Park, Kevin finally meets with the woman referred to as “Pigeon Lady” that the story has been building up as a potential villain. To both Kevin’s surprise as well as the viewer’s, the lady isn’t a villain at all. A bond forms between the two and we find out who the lady really is. They then visit another highlight among Home Alone 2’s NYC locations—Carnegie Hall.

The hall is located in Manhattan (At 881 7th Ave). After receiving some words of wisdom from the woman, Kevin is inspired to make up for his past mistakes by thwarting Marv and Harry’s plan to rob the toy store.

St. Anne’s Hospital for the Children

It’s at St Anne’s Hospital where the proceedings from Duncan’s Toy Chest will be going to. Kevin further establishes his resolve in this scene by declaring: “You can mess with a lot of things, but you can’t mess with kids on Christmas.”

The New York hospital (located at 525 W 120th St) depicted in the film is another one of Home Alone’s New York locations that is fictional, but it was shot at a real Harlem building.

Quong Yuen Shing & Company

View this post on Instagram                         A post shared by Julie Wilson (@juliewilsonillustration)

In this brief scene, we see Kevin leaving from Quong Yuen Shing with firecrackers—which are sure to go off before the film’s conclusion.

This shop was located in Manhattan (At 32 Mott Street) and the name was eventually changed to Good Fortune Gifts. Unfortunately, this Home Alone 2 location has since closed down.

Times Square

Hustle and bustle of Times Square at Night in NYC

After finally arriving to New York, Kevin’s mom Kate (Played by Catherine O’Hara) goes on a desperate search for her son and catches a cab to Times Square. While it’s one of Home Alone 2’s briefest use of NYC locations, the setting is still a memorable one.

This commercial intersection starts at West 42nd Street and ends at West 47th Street and in between is arguably the busiest area in the entire city.

Even though it is one of Home Alone’s New York locations, Time Square has made appearances in many other films including Midnight Cowboy (1969) and Taxi Driver (1974)!

Rob McAllister’s House

In an attempt to prevent Marv and Rob from robbing the toy store, Kevin lures the two criminals to one of Home Alone 2’s final filming locations—his Uncle’s brownstone.

It’s here we get the film’s final showdown between those pesky robbers and Kevin’s boobie traps. The end result: plenty of bodily harm for our two thieves!

In the story, the townhouse is located in New York (At 51 West 95th Street)—however, this is the only one, of the Home Alone 2 film locations, to be shot in Los Angeles.

The actual location used for the scenes in the film was in Universal Studios on Brownstone Street! They just used an address here in NYC, that Hollywood trickery.

Rockefeller Plaza Christmas Tree

The-2020-Rockefeller-Plaza-Christmas-Tree-in-NYC

And what’s a New York City Christmas movie without Rockefeller Plaza and the most famous of all the Christmas trees in NYC ? The Rockefeller Plaza is the last of Home Alone 2 film locations (In New York) and it serves as the perfect backdrop for one of the movie’s best scenes.

It’s here where Kevin is finally united with his mother and the two share a very touching moment together.

Located in Manhattan (At 45 Rockefeller Plaza), this tree has been around since 1931 and continues to serve as an annual tourist attraction. Even for New Yorkers, this landmark never gets old! Capping off our list of the most notable Home Alone 2 NYC locations is the one place you have to come see during the holidays!

NYC Filming Locations in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

The Plaza Hotel: Kevin’s first stop on his New York adventure is the famous Plaza Hotel. The only hotel Kevin knows the name of is one of the cities most recognizable landmarks, and also one of the most expensive. What’s bad for dad’s credit is good for Kevin though, who quickly adapts to the “suite life” (Get it!?). The Plaza has been featured in many other movies including Barefoot in the Park, Big Business, Almost Famous, American Hustle. Located across from Central Park and Grand Army Plaza this is the perfect spot for their troubles to ensue!

FAO Schwarz : Lucky for Kevin Duncan’s Toy Chest, based on the famous toy store featured in Home Alone 2  FAO Schwarz (now closed), was just across Fifth Avenue from The Plaza. This was the oldest toy store in America and this larger-than-life shop certainly upheld its reputation. Many celebrities, including Katie Holmes, Cindy Crawford and Angelina Jolie, shopped there to enjoy the finest toys in town. But in Home Alone 2 , “Duncan’s” is under threat from Marv and Harry. They hatch an evil plan to rob the store on Christmas Eve, and it’s up to Kevin to stop them.

Rockefeller Center : It wouldn’t be Christmas in New York without the infamous decorations and magnificent Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. In this Christmas wonderland, Kevin is reunited with his mother after thwarting Harry and Marv’s plan. The underground concourse features retail shops, great food, and an ice rink.

Central Park

Never let the cold, (or heat) discourage you from enjoying Central Park the way Kevin does. Like all New Yorkers Kevin needs his R & R and escapes to the largest oasis of nature in Manhattan. Full of interesting folks to have a chat with, it doesn’t take Kevin long to befriend a pigeon lady. Lucky for Kev she knows her way around and takes him to see a show atop Lincoln Center. Meanwhile across the park at Wollman Ice Skating Rink Marv steals a scarf and Harry plots their next crime.

Empire Diner: Only in New York, and possibly the circus, does Santa walk down the street on stilts. It’s down here on 10th Ave and West 22nd St in front of the Empire Diner where Mr. McCallister meets Mr. Claus. This famous diner would look familiar to any movie buff, as it’s also been featured in Men In Black II ,  Manhattan , and TV shows such as Rescue Me , and  Law and Order .

Battery Park

Located at the southern tip of Manhattan Island this land was previously a fortress for protecting the city. Luckily in Home Alone 2 New Yorkers can rely on Kevin McAllister to thwart those looking to do harm. It’s down here that Kev looks out at Lady Liberty and soaks in the awesomeness of his city adventure.

The Home Alone 2 Guide To Navigating NYC

So you don't get lost in New York.

Human,

Should you find yourself wandering aimlessly through New York City this holiday season , check off some of the hotspots below in our Home Alone 2 tour guide . Bonus points if you wear a similar red, white, and blue winter hat and take pictures to replicate these scenes:

Radio City Music Hall

People, Snapshot, Glasses, Human, Headgear, Temple, Photography, Eyewear, Neck, Cap,

Central Park

Snow, Winter, Freezing, Photography, Jacket, Child,

Yes,there are even more pigeons in NYC IRL than you see in the movie. The scene where Marv and Harry are being attacked by them is, quite frankly, any sane New Yorker's worst nightmare.

The Plaza Hotel

Religious institute, Rite, Event, Temple,

VISIT Yes, Donald Trump does make an appearance in the film. But let's not take our eyes off the prize, alright? Even this small glimpse of The Plaza Hotel is enough to take your breath away. Around the holidays, the iconic hotel is a sight to behold.

Empire Diner

Pedestrian, Mode of transport, Street, Vehicle,

VISIT As Eric P. says on Yelp, "It is easy to be a member of the clean plate club at the Empire Diner!" So you kind of have to stop by...Plus, it was good enough to make it into Home Alone 2 .

World Trade Center

Handrail, Guard rail, Reinforced concrete, Construction, Stairs, Architecture, Roof, Steel, Composite material, Building,

VISIT You know, just a kid casually hanging out on the rooftop of the World Trade Center. Though visiting One World Trade Center is very different from what it was when Kevin went in 1992, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum is certainly worth the trip.

Rockefeller Center

Photograph, Light, Christmas, Snapshot, Lighting, Christmas lights, Tree, Christmas ornament, Human, Darkness,

VISIT Be sure to walk through Rockefeller Center to see the Christmas tree and watch the ice skaters glide (and sometimes fall) at the rink. This photo of Kevin is the exact reaction you'll have when seeing it for the first time—or even the hundredth. It's magical!

Times Square

Metropolitan area, Metropolis, Urban area, City, Night, Downtown, Electronic signage, Landmark, Human settlement, Traffic,

VISIT Though I would certainly not add Times Square to the list of places to visit this time of year for people who have been, if you've never been to NYC, it's definitely a site to see. One note: it's not the most festive, so if your time here is limited, choose wisely!

Home Alone 2 Locations in NYC

Home Alone 2 1

How many times have you watched the movie “Home Alone 2” and wondered where to find all its locations in NYC and retrace Kevin’s footsteps?

This movie is the cinematic icon of Christmas in New York City .

During the movie Kevin, lost in New York, discovers so many unique places in the city.

The holiday season is approaching and we have selected for you five locations that we think you should definitely visit if you come to New York not only during the winter time but also at other times of the year.

visit home alone house new york

QUEENSBORO BRIDGE

Let’s start this list of the amazing Home Alone 2 Locations in NYC with the Queensboro Bridge, an iconic construction that collages, as its name implies, Queens with Manhattan.

We all have in mind the iconic image of Kevin sticking his head out of the cab as he crosses this bridge.

If you are in Manhattan and want to cross it we recommend going to the intersection of 59th Street and 2nd Avenue .

However, our advice is another: to see this bridge (and also the Skyline of Midtown Manhattan ) from an unusual perspective we suggest you to take the Roosevelt Island Tramway , a beautiful cable car that connects, as the name says, Manhattan with Roosevelt Island, a small island in the middle of the East River.

This island and this Cable Car are really loved by New Yorkers and not too well known by tourists.

So, if you want to do something unusual in NYC we suggest you to read the article we wrote for you:

THE EMPIRE DINER

Remember the scene where Kevin goes to a Diner and takes a flyer from a Santa Claus on stilts?

The Diner still exists, it’s called Empire Diner and it’s located in Chalsea, on the West side of Manhattan.

If you want to visit it and eat something at their place, you can find all the information on their WEBSITE .

The restaurant has more than 1.8 thousands reviews on Google and the average rating is 4.2 / 5 (updated on August 2022).

We suggest you to have a look at their MENU as they have a lot of tasty specialities, including amazing breakfast served until 4 PM, salads and main dishes.

THE PLAZA HOTEL

Famous. Iconic. Unique. Three adjectives to describe this hotel located at the intersection of 59th Street and Fifth Avenue. When you say Home Alone 2 Locations in NYC, you think at the Plaza Hotel.

In our opinion there are 2 places to go to be able to take a souvenir photo of this very famous hotel.

The first is Grand Army Plaza , a small plaza located between 5th Avenue and the South-East entrance to Central Park. You will surely recognise it, for two reasons: the very large statue with a golden knight and the fact that this plaza was also seen in the movie “Home Alone 2”.

The second one is located inside Central Park : once you enter from the South-East side of the park, follow the small road and you will arrive on a small bridge: this is the Gapstow Bridge . From there, look southward / Midtown Manhattan and you will see the beautiful Plaza Hotel in front of you.

To book a movie tour in New York, please visit the movie tours section of our website. All tours depart right in front of the Plaza Hotel.

WOLLMAN RINK

Wollman Rink is one of the most famous skating rinks in all of NYC. Skating here is magical, a daydream: you are in Central Park and you can see the entire Midtown Manhattan skyline. Unforgettable.

If you are planning a vacation in NYC during the Christmas season , we have 2 things to recommend:

The first is to check out the HOLIDAY SECTION on our BLOG .

The second is to book the CHRISTMAS LIGHTS TOUR with us! ROB McALLISTER’s HOUSE

The last (but not least) of the Home Alone 2 locations in NYC is Kevin’s aunt and uncle’s house.

This is the house that is under attack by the two thieves in the final part of the film.

This house is located on the Upper West Side. This area is very residential and elegant and it is located to the left of Central Park .

It is a Brownstone House , really beautiful and iconic. You can find many houses like this on the Upper West Side , in Harlem or Brooklyn .

To see Kevin’s uncle’s residence, go to 95th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York locations you can visit today

By richard urquiza | dec 22, 2022.

HOME ALONE - Eight year old Kevin MacAllister (Macaulay Culkin) gets lost in the shuffle as his large, upper-middle class suburban family rushes to make a plane that will ferry them off to their Christmas vacation in France; Kevin, having been banished to an attic room as punishment, is subsequently forgotten. At first this is a dream come true, as for the first time in his young life he has no one to answer to but himself, and he takes full advantage of his newfound freedom, eating junk food and watching late-night horror flicks. But when the bumbling Wet Bandits Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) target his house for a robbery, Kevin must step up to defend his home; he sets a maze of booby traps so elaborate that only an eight year old imagination could concoct them. (20TH CENTURY FOX)MACAULAY CULKIN

The Home Alone franchise (well, only the first two, we don’t talk about the others) have become holiday staples on American television sets, and while Home Alone started it all, I and many others will tell you Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is the best of the pair.

As the title implies, shooting took place all over the Big Apple. If you want to explore some of the locations Kevin McCallister journeyed through, we list some of the most iconic locations featured in Home Alone 2  that you can still visit today.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York locations you can visit

Central park.

With minor exceptions, a great deal of the plot of Home Alone 2 takes place either within Central Park or a few blocks from its perimeter. While that may seem limiting, the sheer virtue of the park’s size allows for a plethora of locations to choose from. One scene has Harry and Marv, the infamous burglar duo, discussing their plans at Central Park’s Wollman Rink, a winter attraction that still operates today on the South East side of the park. Another scene, when Kevin McCallister first encounters the Pigeon Lady, takes place in front of Gapstow Bridge, one of the most iconic bridges within the green square.

NEW YORK, NY – NOVEMBER 10: People ice skate on the Wollman Rink in Central Park below the towers along Billionaires’ Row as the sun rises on November 10, 2022, in New York City. (Photo by Gary Hershorn/Getty Images)

Plaza Hotel

Built right on Central Park’s South East corner, in front of the Pulitzer Fountain, is the Plaza Hotel, which, in the movie, Kevin McCallister makes his temporary home (until Tim Curry chases him out). All those hotel scenes were truly shot within the Plaza’s lobby, halls, and suites, giving many an inside look to one of the ritziest joints in the city.

Originally a different hotel, yet of the same name, built in 1890, The Plaza as the world knows today was built between 1905 to 1907, opening October 1st of that year. It’s French Renaissance style, as well as its proximity to Central Park, made it a New York icon from the moment of its compilation, and has hosted some of the most famous people across the world and history. One of them happens to be Kevin McCallister.

Duncan’s Toy Chest

In the movie, Duncan’s Toy Chest is a large, picturesque toy store in New York that Kevin visits and saves from robbery by Harry and Marv. However, Duncan’s Toy Chest is a purely fictional place, and the external shots of it were actually filmed in Chicago, using the Rookery Building.

While this toy store is not real, Duncan’s Toy Chest was based on the real life stores of F.A.O. Schwarz (the toy store featured in 1988’s Big ), which have had a long and interesting history. Claiming to be one of the first toy stores in the country, F.A.O Schwarz first opened in Baltimore in 1862 before moving to New York City, where it hopped between several addresses. That is until 1931, when F.A.O Schwarz opened its signature location on 745 Fifth Avenue, which operated for, coincidentally, 55 years. Today, F.A.O Schwarz has locations all over the world, and its New York City headquarters can be found in 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

Rockefeller Plaza

Speaking of Rockefeller Plaza, this is exactly where the movie comes to its narrative and emotional conclusion, with Kevin reuniting (again) with his mother beneath the lights of the famous Rockefeller Christmas tree.

The Rockefeller Christmas tree has been a stable harbinger of the yuletide season as the cold northern winds since 1933. This is an interesting detail when you consider that Rockefeller Center’s construction spanned from practically the whole of the 30’s. Indeed, the very first Rockefeller Christmas tree was set up in Dec. 24th, 1931, by Italian American workers who decorated the pine with ornaments made by their families. Two years later, in 1933, the second Christmas tree was put up, and since then, not a year has gone by without a noble pine to grace the plaza.

  • Home Alone 2: Lost In New York is a Christmas classic sequel that may not be as well-regarded as the original, but it provides movie fans with a glimpse of New York City at Christmastime.
  • Many of the filming locations in Home Alone 2, such as Radio City Music Hall and the Queensboro Bridge, have remained largely unchanged since the movie was filmed.
  • While some filming locations, like LaGuardia Airport, have undergone renovations or changes since the movie's release, others, like the Empire Diner and The Plaza Hotel, still look very similar to how they appeared in the film.

The Christmas classic sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost In New York , isn't well regarded when compared to its predecessor, but it's basically movie heaven for those who love New York at Christmastime, and Home Alone 2 filming locations make for great landmarks for movie fans . There isn't as much home alone-ing in Home Alone 2 , as Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) basically just wanders around New York like a kid set free on vacation. Kevin, as is often the case in the movie franchise, ends up alone in New York for the holidays, separated from the rest of his family, and has his own adventure.

Watch on Disney+

Kevin hits up all the good spots in New York that tourists would want to see. But the character also visits some places that are a little geographically questionable. In fact, not all the Home Alone 2 filming locations are actually in New York City. Many of the filming locations, however, have not changed much since the original movie was filmed.

11 Radio City Music Hall Is The Same

Radio city music hall is a new york landmark.

Home Alone is a movie that nobody hates , and that's thanks to how charming Kevin is. When he begins exploring New York City, he's excited to have freedom and independence, although like in the first movie, that feeling begins to dwindle as he is chased by the Sticky Bandits.

Kevin walks around the city and passes by Radio City Music Hall. This is a famous and beloved part of NYC and is still standing today, with many tourists and residents alike attending performances here. Visitors can still attend the annual holiday show called "Christmas Spectacular Starring The Radio City Rockettes."

10 LaGuardia Airport Looks A Bit Different

Laguardia airport doesn't always allow filming.

It isn't until Kevin lands in LaGuardia that he realizes he made a major mistake. He initially shows some confusion when he can't find his family in the airport, but it doesn't really click until he looks out the western windows and sees the Manhattan skyline.

LaGuardia Airport does look different today since the movie was released in 1992. According to Insider , there has been a renovation of Terminal B, which will change the appearance of the airport as well.

9 The Queensboro Bridge Looks The Same

The queensboro bridge is often used in stock footage.

Home Alone is a movie fans watch when feeling nostalgic , and this great scene is one reason why. Being stuck in New York didn't seem to bother Kevin one bit. He immediately hopped into a taxi and began to take in the sights, which included sticking his head out the window while traversing the iconic Queensboro Bridge. This is one of the sweetest scenes in the movie.

Also known as the 59th Street Bridge, the Queensboro was completed in 1909 and connects Queens with the Upper East Side. Due to its status as a historic bridge, the Queensboro Bridge hasn't really been worked on, at least not in an aesthetic sense. It looks the same as it did in Home Alone 2 , just with more modern cars driving across it.

8 The Empire Diner Is Still There

The empire diner is a pop culture icon.

The Empire Diner is probably the most famous diner in the world, thanks to its numerous appearances in movies and television shows. It briefly pops up in Home Alone 2 during the montage of Kevin sightseeing around New York. Kevin says hello to a Santa on stilts right in front of it.

The Empire Diner is still around. It originally opened in 1946, was refurbished in '76, briefly closed in 2010, and re-opened under its modern name in 2014. Fans won't have any trouble recognizing the Empire Diner because, like the Queensboro Bridge, it still looks exactly like it did in the movie. It's also appeared in several different movies and TV shows, including Men In Black II , Igby Goes Down , Law & Order , and And Just Like That .

7 Quong Yuen Shing & Company

Quong yuen shing & company was a store in chinatown.

Another stop Kevin makes during the montage is at Quong Yuen Shing & Company, a small store in Chinatown where Kevin acquires some fireworks. This is actually a historic building, as it was Chinatown's longest continuously operating store, having opened back in 1891. Unfortunately, the store was heavily hit by 9/11 and suffered a significant loss of business, and the owner was forced to close the store in 2003.

Luckily, the exterior was preserved and remains just as it looks in the movie. However, the sign is obviously changed, and the store is now known as Good Fortune Gifts.

6 The World Trade Center Is A 9/11 Memorial

The world trade center can be seen in many movie skylines before 2001.

One of the most iconic images of the movie is the zoom-out shot of Kevin standing on top of the South World Trade Center. But even before that, viewers see Kevin walking up some stairs into the complex itself with the two iconic buildings proudly standing in the background.

The movie was released just nine years prior to the tragic attacks that took these buildings down. The site is now home to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, complete with the beautiful and wonderfully thoughtful memorial, Reflecting Absence.

5 The Plaza Hotel Looks The Same

The plaza hotel features in numerous movies.

The Plaza Hotel plays a major role in the movie, as it's where Kevin decides to stay and rack up an enormous room service tab. While Kevin makes poor choices in Home Alone , this is one of his more relatable moments. The Plaza is another historic New York landmark, having opened back in 1907. The Plaza is a U.S. National Historic Landmark and in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, so it doesn't look that different from the 1992 setting of the movie.

That said, the hotel underwent significant renovations in 2005 (at a cost of $450 million) before reopening in 2008. The building now contains various condos and the lobby looks a little different than it did back in 1992. The Plaza Hotel embraces its Home Alone 2 filming location legacy. It offers a Home Alone 2 package for guests to purchase , which includes a limo ride and a 16-scoop ice cream sundae with assorted toppings. Home Alone 2 is far from its only movie appearance though. The landmark has appeared in North by Northwest , Sleepless in Seattle , and The Great Gatsby , while its sister location in Boston provided filming locations for Bride Wars while the New York hotel was under renovation.

4 Duncan's Toy Chest Is A Different Building

Duncan's toy chest is in chicago.

Kevin finds the store of his dreams in Duncan's Toy Chest, a building that isn't actually found in New York. Those well-versed in historic buildings may recognize this as the Rookery Building, a historic landmark in Chicago.

Completed back in 1888, the Rookery was designated a National Historic Landmark back in 1975. What viewers see in the movie is the beautiful arched entrance, which of course remains just as it was back in 1992.

3 St. Anne's Hospital For Children Is Fictional

The building used is in harlem.

St. Anne's Hospital for Children is a fictional location, and so it was created for Home Alone 2 . Kevin comes across the building (and the child inside it) after illegally breaking in and catching a performance at Carnegie Hall. This is the most heartwarming location of the movie since Kevin wants to help children who are sick and having a difficult time have a happier holiday.

However, this building is not a hospital, but a part of Columbia's Teachers College. It's located at West 120th Street in Harlem, which is about 75 blocks from Carnegie Hall.

2 Times Square Looks Similar

Times square is larger and brighter today.

Just like Home Alone fans love Kevin's best schemes , it's fun and charming to watch him explore NYC. It's amazing how much Times Square has built up over the years. A brief shot of the square can be seen right before Kate wanders the streets asking for Kevin, and it looks like Times Square in the early '90s.

However, Times Square has been built on, modernized, and received a significant revamp when the Pedestrian Plaza was built in the early 2010s. It now looks significantly different, full of brighter lights, way more traffic, and a completely redesigned area.

1 Rob's House Is A Set

Brownstone street is on universal's backlots in new york and los angeles.

Rob's house is a little difficult to pinpoint. The address given in the movie is 51 West 95th Street, which indeed is a real brownstone, and it actually does look a bit like the location in the film. However, it's certainly not exact, owing to the fact that the house isn't actually in New York.

The exterior of the house was filmed on what's called Brownstone Street (or New York Street) at Universal Studios. Fans of Home Alone 2 can visit Brownstone Street in the Universal Lots, and it still looks the same. Brownstone Street has been used for a ton of television shows including Pretty Little Liars , Seinfeld , Friends , and NYPD Blue . Studios often use these similar set pieces for multiple movies, though movie fans won't always notice since they get dressed differently by set designers and the props department. Home Alone 2's filming locations make for a unique blend of real world locations and sets that fans can visit .

Visiting Home Alone 2 locations in New York City

You already know how big fan am I of the Home Alone 2: Lost in New York movie. That’s why on my recent trip to the City I took some time to visit some of the locations where the actual movie was filmed. Some of the locations are obviously some of the famous NYC spots, some locations I ended up finding accidentally and some of the locations are the ones I’ve been wanting to see ever since I was a kid watching Kevin running around the streets of NYC and imaging me doing the same.

A post shared by DEAN PELIC (@deanpelic) on Nov 27, 2016 at 6:42am PST

New York City is a fairytale all year round, but the real magic happens in November/December when the whole city gets in the holiday spirit. For me, a complete Christmas freak, being in NYC at that time was like walking through the dream or at least one of the many Christmas movies I watched thought the years that take role in the best City in the world. I visited a lot of European cities during the Advent time and even they’re beautiful and magical, still none comes close to the NYC and the magic that happens as soon as the holidays approaches that basically starts with the Thanksgiving day. Read more about it in one of my previous posts about New York here .

So, if you’ve been wondering how does the Home Alone 2 locations look like in real life, look no further. Here are some of the most famous locations from the movie I visited while visiting the New York City. Don’t have to tell you excited I was. It was like going back to childhood and all those years of dreaming about being the part of the City at Christmastime. Here we go:

Woolman Rink

As soon as I’ve entered the Central Park I was looking only for the Woolman Rink. Remember the scene from the movie where Harry was ice skating, well trying to ice skate while at the same time stealing scarves, hats and gloves from other skaters?! Yeah, this is one of this places I’ve been wanting to visit for so long. The same rink is featured in so many movies and it kinda gets you in the Holiday spirit right away. This has been the picture I’ ve been having as a laptop wallpaper for as long as I can remember. Not only because of the rink but because of some other building it it, and that is the Plaza Hotel. Having a picture here was a dream come true, on the very first day of my NYC adventure.

Plaza Hotel

While walking towards Plaza my heart was going crazy. Man, the Plaza hotel was, and well still is, the synonym of the hotel. I mean, didn’t we all wanted to stay in such a hotel when growing up, eating ice cream and all those sweets, having that huge bed only for us, while fire is cracking in the fireplace and the snow is falling. All along with an amazing view of the Central Park. Well, to be honest, I still want to do that. Didn’t have really time to do that when first visiting, but even visiting the lobby was a huge deal for me. Don’t need to mention that I was staying in front of the hotel for a good half an hour just trying to realize that I am actually standing in front of the Plaza Hotel. Yeah, I know.

Radio City Music Hall

Featured at the beginning of the movie when Kevin first got to NYC.

South Street

This one I passed by while walking to the Brooklyn bridge. I wasn’t at first sure if that was the place but it looked so familiar. I walked around a bit and eventually was certain that it was the spot from the very beginning of the movie where the truck that was carrying Marv and Harry stopped. It served as a market in the movie. And you have to remember that Marv memorable answer to Harry’s question: “You smell that? Know what that is? – “Yeah. Fish.”. Well, freedom and fish. Marv :D

Battery Park

Well, I visited Battery Park but since the binoculars no longer exist there, I used the binocular on the Statue of Liberty and while on the Empire State of Building to recreate the scene when Kevin first got in NYC. While visiting the latter I even put my Home Alone 2 hat that the staff from the Hotel Belleclaire , since knowing how big fan of the movie I was, got me and that was waiting in my room along with the bunch of other goodies when I first check-in in the room. What a day that was! I’ll never forget that.

Central Park

Not the exact spot, since I didn’t have time to explore the whole park, well most of it, and to find the Gapstow Bridge where Kevin met the pigeon lady. Next time, for sure.

Bethesda Terrace

Walking through the Central Park got me to the Bethseda Terrace. And as soon as I saw it, I immediately remembered the scene of Kevin escaping the Marv and Harry and eventually hiding in the horse carriage. Such a nice place.

Where Kevin and the pigeon lady had a talk and watched the orchestra playing. Unfortunately, don’t have any pictures.

Rockefeller Center

One of my favourite spots of the NYC. Couldn’t believe, not only that I was there, but that I also was on the lightning of the tree and in the first rows just a few meters away from the stage and the actual tree, counting the seconds until it was lit. That’s going to be a lifetime memory for sure. For Kevin, too. Since he reunited with his mom in front of the biggest Christmas tree in the City. And we all know how much Kevin likes Christmas trees. Well, who doesn’t?!

New York City is an adventure I recommend to everyone. I traveled a lot, visited many countries, many cities but no city will ever come close to what NYC is to me. I knew that even before I visited and I am completely certain know. It’s a city I’ll be going back to for as long as I can. Hopefully once a year. And if you’re planning to visit the City, and you’re a fan of a Home Alone 1 and Home Alone 2 movies, don’t miss an opportunity to visit these memorable locations where the second movie was filmed. Enjoy your trip.

HOME ALONE TOUR

We were on Honeymoon and love Home Alone 2, so decided to take a look around Central park, and found various parts that were filmed there, beautiful park, very well kept, loads of different things going on, lots of fun, huge walking distances if you want too.

What an amazing young man! Tour was historic! Bashir is intelligent beyond belief! Made us feel like royalty!! Sooo blessed to have found him!

visit home alone house new york

A must do in New York! You can spend an entire day here it's so big! Horse & carriage ride was delightful!

This place is amazing, I could spend hrs o even the whole day walking around or just seating watching the people moving around and feeling the fresh air.

You can probably forget covering the whole park in one walk. There’s too much else to do in the city to justify that much time, but you can probably make it out to the lake and back to your hotel regardless of what side of the park your hotel is on if you stay nearby.

This is my all time favorite place to visit during the Christmas Season. Love the carriage ride in the snow

‘Home Alone’ House Is Listed for $5.25M After a Serious Renovation—but Is It an Improvement?

( 20th Century Fox; Realtor.com )

‘Home Alone’ House Is Listed for $5.25M After a Serious Renovation—but Is It an Improvement?

A dozen years after it was last on the market, the famous “ Home Alone ” house is up for sale.

Listed at $5.25 million, the 16-room stunner served as the setting for the 1990 classic holiday movie in which Macaulay Culkin portrayed Kevin McCallister , a clever kid who’s accidentally left behind by his vacationing family and forced to outwit a pair of bumbling burglars.

Though it might be far from the Hollywood Hills, the 9,126-square-foot Winnetka, IL , home has received a starlet-worthy makeover. And while the stately brick facade probably looks familiar, the interior—renovated and expanded in 2018—would leave the whole McCallister family gobsmacked by its transformation.

In addition to its updated interior, the house boasts an ideal location in an upscale suburb along Chicago’s North Shore, along Lake Michigan.

“The community is known for great schools, wonderful beaches, parks, and a cute town with shops and restaurants,” says real estate agent Cara Ameer , who got married in this vicinity and knows the area well. “It’s really an idyllic place to raise a family and for kids to grow up in. Winnekta is easily accessible by commuter train to get to downtown Chicago, so that is also a huge plus, in addition to a short drive from Northwestern and Loyola Universities.”

So will this ideally situated piece of pop culture fetch its asking price?

“The house is well priced for its size and condition,” Ameer says of the current price tag. “The celebrity factor of this home, being featured in a such a popular and legendary movie, also adds to the overall value. It is one of those homes people will want to drive by to see if they know the movie and the area where it was filmed.”

Real estate agent Jason Gelios believes there’s a good chance the home might even sell for over list price.

“Any time you have a famous name or movie associated with a property, it affects the value in a positive way,” he says. “The only way a property associated with someone famous would not sell for asking price would be if the property is distressed or in horrible shape. This often causes the property to sell for less than desired, no matter who is associated with the property.”

Luckily, that’s not a problem with the “Home Alone” house, which has received a remarkable transformation.

Sam Fitz-Simon , a real estate agent in San Francisco, predicts, “I would expect to see the home sell for a premium to an investor that views it more like an art piece, than a home.”

Inside the ‘Home Alone’ house makeover

Let’s take a look at how this Georgian residence, built in 1921, has evolved since it graced the silver screen in the beloved John Hughes film.

While you might remember the famous staircase where wily Kevin foils the men who’ve broken into his home, you probably won’t recognize it now.

visit home alone house new york

The entryway has changed significantly, too, from elaborate wallpaper to a cleaner white-on-white look.

visit home alone house new york

The home’s new owners also decided to ditch the wallpaper in the bedrooms and give these sleep spaces a modern, luxury-hotel aesthetic.

visit home alone house new york

The McCallisters’ cozy kitchen now features double islands, bespoke white cabinetry, and a hidden pantry, as well as an eight-burner Wolf range and an integrated Sub-Zero fridge. It’s fair to say Kevin could make a lot more than macaroni and cheese here.

visit home alone house new york

The dining room looks a lot bigger and brighter without those burgundy walls and that behemoth china cabinet.

visit home alone house new york

The renovated home also boasts several new features the McCallister kiddos would have loved. The lower level now includes a state-of-the-art, indoor sports court with a true three-point line.

visit home alone house new york

It’s only fitting that the home includes a theater, too.

visit home alone house new york

Who wouldn’t mind being left “home alone” here? Perhaps it’s time for the updated property to star in the next installment.

The Home Alone House is About to Have A New Owner

By Michelle Duncan

red brick Georgian house from Home Alone exterior

Since its premiere in 1990, Home Alone has become an enduring Christmas classic. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal , the current owners of the Home Alone house, Tim and Trisha Johnson, shared that fans still stop by the redbrick Georgian house in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka to take pictures and re-create movie scenes.

Now, in another testament to the movie’s lasting cultural impact, the “McCallister house” seems to have found a buyer about a week after hitting the market. The Real Deal reports that the sale of the movie-famous mansion was marked “contingent” (meaning, an agreement will be reached once certain conditions like inspections or financing, are finalized) on May 31, after being listed on May 24 for $5.25 million.

The Johnsons paid $1.59 million for the five-bedroom, six-bathroom spread back in 2012 and have lived there ever since. A few years after their purchase, the two made extensive upgrades to the home but were careful to preserve recognizable areas featured in the movie, like the foyer staircase, formal living room, and dining room. “That was in the movie and it’s classic,” Trisha told the WSJ . “We didn’t want to take that out or touch it in any way.”

The renovations added 5,100 square feet of space to the 1921-built residence, bringing the total living space to 9,126 square feet. An expanded gourmet kitchen features white countertops and cabinetry against the walls, offset by dark wood cabinets on both of the large islands . Nearby, a breakfast nook with blue leather seating is also carved from dark wood. Some areas of the house were reconfigured, like the screened-in porch with a dual-sided fireplace.

The Johnsons also finished the basement, adding a a gym, a full bathroom, and a seven-seat home theater outfitted with a bar. Other highlights include a junior primary bedroom located in the former attic space, two laundry rooms, a second living room, a heated three-car garage, and a spacious backyard with a patio.

This does not bode well for the couple’s marriage.

In a potential sign of estrangement, photos of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s marital home have reappeared online.

According to the Daily Mail , a number of previously unavailable images were uploaded to the Zillow profile of the couple’s Beverly Hills mansion on June 1 and June 5, signaling that — though still listed as sold — it may soon be back on the market, along with the pop star and actor.

There have been numerous recent ominous signs that the A-listers are experiencing trouble in paradise. Those include Lopez’s response to questions about split rumors during a May press conference, reports that Affleck is staying at a separate house and J.Lo canceling an upcoming tour to spend more time with her family.

Lopez, 54, and Affleck, 51, paid $60.8 million in cash for the 5.2-acre, 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom, 46,000-square-foot compound in June 2023 after years of going in and out of escrow on multiple properties.

The mansion they finally settled on is known as the Wallingford Estate and features an indoor sports complex, a 12-car garage, a zero-edge pool — and grounds containing additional buildings including a 5,000-square-foot guesthouse, a caretaker house and a two-bedroom guard house.

The mansion, which is located in the 90210 ZIP code, had been listed on and off since 2018, and had previously been seeking $300,000 a month before Bennifer bought it, The Post previously reported .

After buying it, the live listing was stripped of much of its imagery and info, as is customary.

The fact that there are now 50 images of it, including a new shot of the exterior, available across a variety of real estate listing websites — as well as a fresh description of the estate — makes it appear that the couple are possibly preparing to look for a buyer, the Daily Mail reported.
