Six Reasons Why Going To Gigs Alone Is The Best

So you want to go see that metalcore band you love but none of your friends like that “shouty” music? Or you REALLY want to go check out that new artist on TikTok you discovered but all your mates won’t go to a gig where they only know one song? Or worse, your group of friends cannot get themselves organized and work out which show and when to go on a tour, so you’re worried you’ll miss out on tickets. Let them be miserable and start living your best life by going to concerts by yourself. Trust us, it’ll be the best thing you’ll ever do!

Going to gigs alone can be daunting. What am I going to do with myself in between sets? Are people going to think I’m weird? Why would I not want to share the experience?

Listen, we are all for sharing the experience, but sometimes it’s either missing out or going alone, and in those cases we definitely recommend going alone. Here’s a few reasons why you’ll never regret it once you build up the courage to go through with it.

1 . See artists you really REALLY want to see

Imagine the FOMO of missing your favourite band on their new tour, hearing all those new songs live, seeing everyone post about it. Don’t let that happen, and get that ticket. Plus you then get to tell the pals who didn’t want to come how you saw that band or artist before they blew up or how they played that one B-side track that everyone loves – now who has FOMO?

2. Meet new friends

It’s no secret that music brings people together. That moment when everyone’s favourite ballad hits and there’s not a dry eye in the building, you turn to your left or right and suddenly you bond with a stranger over your favourite song. For the metalheads, we also recommend mosh pits, follow the rules of the pit but what a way to make new friends!

3. The freedom

Now hear us out – but going to a gig alone means you can get to the venue when you want, you can go to the loos when you want, you can stand in line at the merch for hours and no one will ask if you’re sure you want to wait. And no one will drag you home when you want to wait after the show has finished and find every piece of confetti or ask for the setlist.

4 . It’s a cult

You are not alone in going to gigs by yourself, you’d probably be surprised by how many people do the same thing. Some fan groups even have entire sub cultures of going to gigs alone (shoutout to Frank Turner’s solo armada, we see you!) – bringing us back to reason #2, new friends.

5. Confidence boost

Going to a gig by yourself will do wonders for your confidence. Sure the first time might feel a bit awkward and weird, but isn’t it always? Remember your first day of school? And then it was kind of okay after a while (let’s ignore our teenage years…) Once you’ve done it and experience all of the divinity of a solo gig you’ll feel free as a bird.

6. Experience the music your way

Whether you love hanging out by the bar, need to be front row, prefer seats or want to leave a bit earlier to catch the last train – the world is your oyster! The experience is yours, you don’t need to coordinate with someone else, rely on them to enjoy the show as much as you are and have as much of a good time as you are. And frankly, if you took a chance on a new genre or new artist and it isn’t your vibe, you can just go home. Glorious.

So there you have it – doesn’t sound too bad now does it?! At the end of the day it all comes down to you and your artist, a concert will always be a shared experience whether with strangers or friends. The most important thing to do is have fun.

Your next gig awaits

It all starts here.

Create memories to last a lifetime

Whether it’s your favourite band, an evening with friends, discovering new artists or the seventh show on the tour, we are your go-to home for all things live music.

Don’t miss out on the biggest announcement and keep checking back for latest news and last chance tickets.

B:Music announces its 2023/24 Birmingham Classical Series

music tours birmingham 2023

B:Music is delighted to announce its 2023/24 Birmingham Classical Series at Town Hall and Symphony Hall, packed with superb orchestras, world class soloists and unmissable programmes.

The new season will showcase some of the pinnacles of orchestral music as well as newer discoveries. There will be a host of world class soloists, orchestras and conductors taking to Birmingham’s finest stages and, as always, B:Music continues its mission to reach new audiences across the West Midlands and beyond with all tickets priced at just £10 for the Symphony Orchestra of India, Sunday morning concerts with coffee and cake, and international household names such as Lang Lang performing on the world-famous Symphony Hall stage.

Nick Reed, Chief Executive said, “We’re delighted to present another full season of great orchestras, acclaimed soloists and exciting rising stars. As you’d expect, there are thrilling musical experiences on a grand scale – and they don’t get much bigger than Tan Dun’s action-packed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon played by the China Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra – but there are also more intimate and informal performances to enjoy. We hope this will be a season to remember. Whether at Symphony Hall, Town Hall or in the Jennifer Blackwell Performance Space, the B:Music team looks forward to welcoming our classical music audiences into our stunning spaces.”

One of the world’s great figures in modern classical music, pianist Lang Lang comes to Symphony Hall in one of just a handful of UK dates this autumn [27 October]. Lang Lang is an artist who has had a profound effect as a pianist, educator and philanthropist, as well as an influential ambassador for the arts. He has given concerts the world over, played for billions of viewers at the 2008 Olympic Opening Ceremony in Beijing and is a recent star of Channel 4’s ‘The Piano’, through all of which his charisma and artistry shone through. This is an incredible opportunity to hear this magical performer live on stage. Bach’s magnificent Goldberg Variations were reputedly composed to soothe the insomniac Count Kyserlingk in his sleepless nights, and Bach crafts 30 variations on a beautiful aria to create a timeless masterpiece.

A wide array of leading soloists will perform in the new season including acclaimed British pianist and one of the all-time great performers of Franz Schubert’s music, Paul Lewis, who will perform Schubert’s final piano sonatas in Town Hall over the next year, taking in the joy and happiness to the tragedy and despair of Schubert’s short life [5 December and 11 April] .

The Belgian Sonoro Quartet [15 October] have been making waves throughout Europe with a busy schedule of over 40 concerts a year, coupled with a host of radio broadcasts and competition successes, not least, recognition at the Bartók World Competition for string quartets. They will play in the Jennifer Blackwell Performance Space in the first of six ECHO (European Concert Hall Organisation) Rising Stars concerts. Their programme entitled Reflections looks to the past and the ‘father of the string quartet’ with Haydn’s radiant Sunrise quartet, and to the future with a new commission from the Belgian composer Annelies van Parys. The six ECHO Rising Stars Sunday recitals feature outstanding artists handpicked by the directors of Europe’s most prestigious concert halls. Each musician or group embarks on an international concert tour of halls in the ECHO network, and B:Music venues Symphony Hall and Town Hall have been there since the series began in 1995. The other superb musicians who feature in the series are Mathis Stier [3 December], Sebastian Heindl [4 February], Axelle Fanyo [25 February], Sean Shibe [24 March] and Julia Púsker [28 April].

The Symphony Orchestra of India make a welcome return to Symphony Hall with a programme including Strauss’ rousing Rosenkavalier Suite and Stravinsky’s orchestral showcase Petrushka [1 December]. With Zakir Hussain performing his new Triple Concerto, this is a chance to hear an outstanding evening of music at the very accessible price of £10 per ticket. The Czech National Symphony Orchestra returns to Symphony Hall with the orchestra’s Principal Conductor Steven Mercurio and soloist Mark Bebbington, a musician of the rarest refinement and maturity, to perform one of the most popular piano concertos in the entire repertoire, Beethoven’s pivotal Emporer Concerto [21 May]. With its mighty orchestral and piano writing, and with a sublime slow movement that plunges into the rhythmic energy of the rondo finale, this is Beethoven at his finest.

Symphony Hall is thrilled to welcome the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine as part of its biggest UK tour to date [24 October]. One of the most distinguished European orchestras, it has achieved worldwide recognition through its many international tours, which include Europe, the US, Australia, and Asia. This visit is particularly important, following the tragic invasion of Ukraine by Russia and ongoing war. With hostilities expected to continue for some time, it is vital the rich musical culture of Ukraine is continued to be supported. The Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra returns to Symphony Hall with a programme including Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No 2 , the work that propelled Rachmaninov to stardom and has remained one of today’s most loved concertos [15 February]. Some of the most vivid and magical orchestral portrayals of fairy tales and stories are woven through this concert, providing the perfect showcase for the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra.

Other highlights of the 2023/24 season include a performance by the China Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra [11 March] who open their sumptuous programme with a cello concerto created from the soundtrack of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, blending Chinese ceremonial and classical music, Western and Eastern instruments, in an action-packed drama.

Tickets for concerts in the Birmingham Classical Series are priced from £10 and are available from www.bmusic.co.uk

Foo Fighters are releasing extra tickets for all seven of their UK shows this summer - including in Birmingham

  • 10:21, 8 MAY 2024

The Foo Fighters are coming to Birmingham in June 2024

The Foo Fighters are releasing the final tickets for their huge UK tour this summer. The huge band are visiting seven stadiums across the UK this summer as part of their Everything Or Nothing At All Tour.

Their 2024 tour will be their first in the UK without drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in March 2022 at the age of 50. In September 2022, the band played a huge memorial concert to their bandmate in front of 90,000 fans.

Some resellers websites such as Viagogo and Vivid Seats also have tickets available for Foo Fighters' shows. Sites such as Viagogo and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that many event promoters say tickets should not be resold after initial purchase and will not be valid for admittance to gigs.

Fans attending live events with tickets acquired through resale websites are advised to double check the ticket terms and conditions at the point of sale - such as Ticketmaster - to ensure a smooth live event experience. Tickets could be voided if they were found to be bought second-hand.

Mike Rutherford Sets 30 New Mike and the Mechanics Tour Dates

M ike Rutherford will return with Mike and the Mechanics for a tour referencing the group’s biggest hit: He’s confirmed 30 UK shows on the Looking Back: Living the Years 2025 Tour in the spring of 2025.

They kick off in March 2025 and continue into April, with highlight shows at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Tickets are on sale now through the group’s website . A complete list of dates and venues is below.

Rutherford initially formed the Genesis side project in 1985 with vocalists Paul Young and Paul Carrack. They scored four late-’80s Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, topped by the No. 1 single “The Living Years” in 1988. “Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)” and “All I Need Is a Miracle” also reached the Top 10 .

READ MORE: The Best Song From Every Genesis Album

Carrack drifted in and out of the band before a final album in 2004, and by then Young had died. Rutherford rebuilt the lineup and issued 2011’s The Road with new vocalists Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar. They went dormant again after 2019’s Out of the Blue before finally returning to stages in 2023.

“It’s exciting to announce that we will be touring the Mechanics again,” Rutherford said in an official statement . “Getting back on the road with the guys last year was a real pleasure. Even though it had been four years, we slotted back into the old ways, the old jokes and the camaraderie like it had been a day!”

Mike and the Mechanics memorably celebrated “The Living Years” with a 2015 tour of America , the first since 1989. Their 2023 dates were appropriately dubbed “Refuelled!” The lineup is rounded out by drummer Gary Wallis, and multi-instrumentalists Anthony Drennan and Luke Juby, all of whom have been in place since 2010. Wallis also had a stint in Mike and the Mechanics from 1998-2004.
