Did you really visit all these schools on your own? Yes I actually went to each of these schools and filmed, curated all the facts and stats, and personally made each video. You’d be amazed what you can accomplish if you just chip at it a little every day.

Why did you do this? This project got started in 2017 when I took my wife on a road trip to “see the country”, and I tried my hand at vlogging about colleges we visited along the way. I had a 360° camera to take b-roll, which ended up being the only usable footage from that trip (vlogging is harder than it looks!). Soon after, two of my friends got married in Boston a week apart from each other so that got us up to 40 colleges, all on the east coast. You don’t quit when you’ve done 40 schools already, you go for 100.

How could you afford this? Good planning, not taking direct flights (actually searching for cross country flights with long stopovers) lots of great friends’ to crash at, a working wife, and willingness to sleep in Walmart parking lots.

Are you going to other schools or is this it? The goal is to hit all 100 of the USNews top 100 (currently at 85/100). I’m also sitting on about 20 international universities I’ve yet to edit. I plan on being in the UK and Australia once COVID-19 blows over.

Why is rank trend important? You’ll notice on the bottom of each video there is the school’s 2010, 2015, and 2020 USNews rank. This is because the trend of a school’s rank tells you more than that year’s rank. Research into the USNews rankings tells us that +/- 4 in rank from one year to the next is statistical noise, so don’t get caught up in the specifics. However if a school is getting higher in rank from 5 years ago, 10 years ago, that’s probably a sign they’re consistently improving. You want your college to be ranked high even 5, 10 years after you’ve graduated, and the rank trend tells you that.

What do you think is the most important metric when picking a school? I feel the boy/girl ratio is one of the most underrated stats and needs to be considered. It is the #1 factor that impacts your college experience day in/day out. You won’t necessarily feel how different a rank 30 is from a rank 60 school, but you will definitely feel when a campus is 30% female vs 60% female. I went to GT when there were only 25% women, and let’s just say it was miserable on campus. When the ratio is that skewed, the rarer sex tends to be much more proud, and the guys had to make inroads at Emory and Agnes Scott to have any female contact (it didn’t help that my group of friends weren’t the smoothest engineers you’ve ever seen).

The second most under-rated stat is the acceptance rate. If you plot acceptance rate against boy/girl ratio, you’ll find an interesting quadrant, where the party schools are high female high acceptance rate, and the dreary ones are the low female low acceptance ones. But that’s probably where the ladies want to go if a M.R.S. degree is a potential option.

Visit Campus

On-campus visits.

Boston University is excited to welcome visitors to our campus! We host in-person tours and information sessions where you can experience the vibrancy of BU’s campus and meet current students. Here is some helpful information in preparation for your visit:

• Registration is required for all events.  Please select a date from our events calendar  to register for a program in advance of your arrival on our campus.
• During high school vacation weeks, holidays and weekends, our programs often reach capacity weeks in advance.  We recommended securing your visit before making travel plans.
• If you are unable to secure a reservation, you are welcome to take our self-guided mobile walking tour.  Using your phone you can choose from options that mirror our in-person tour, or opportunities to explore our West campus and Housing facilities through videos and narrated tour stops.
• A member of the Board of Admissions is available to answer questions at the Visitors Center during our operating hours.
• We offer information sessions year-round, but campus tours are not available when BU classes are not in session (much of December and January, Spring Break (in March) and May). We do host information sessions and campus tours throughout the summer.
• Campus tours enter several buildings on campus, but residence halls are not included. Admitted students have the opportunity to tour residence halls at Admitted Student Open Houses in April.
• Parking for visitors is limited. See our Directions and Parking page for the most updated information at the time of your visit.
• Only trained service dogs are permitted in our building and on campus tours. Pets and emotional support or comfort dogs are not permitted.

Also, people are crazy about our lampposts.

We’re 12 miles (about 40 minutes) from  Boston and Cambridge , one of the world’s great concentrations of cultural, entrepreneurial, scientific, and technological capital; also one of the country’s historical treasures. Unlike New York City, Boston and Cambridge do sleep; but they are inexhaustible all the same.

Wellesley, the town, is home to 27,000 people, good sushi, organic produce, winding tree-lined residential streets, independent shops and cafés, a restaurant run by a celebrity chef, and several stops on Boston’s commuter rail line, including one in "the Ville," the part of Wellesley that is closest to Wellesley College, which is in fact very close.

We have more than 150 student-run  clubs and organizations , more than 50 academic departments, and an institutional commitment to a level of intellectual and social activity that is, to be honest, a little much. Getting to campus, public transportation.

White-lined spaces denote visitor parking.

Proceed past the booth and turn left. Drive past the Boston College shuttle stop on your left and the East Wing (a brick building) on your right until you reach the back of Stuart House (our main administrative building) on your right. Park only in the spots marked visitor or in white-lined spaces—not in the yellow-lined spaces. If you have not received a parking permit ahead of time, you will need an orange temporary parking pass. Please see a staff member in the office you are visiting—Admissions, Career Services, the Law Library, or the Dean's Office—to receive one, and place it on the dashboard of your car.

You’ll find additional visitor parking past Stuart House and the dormitories (Keyes South and Keyes North) on your right and near our game field, the Quonset Hut, our practice field, Alumni House, and another Boston College shuttle stop.

All Boston College campuses are on the Green Line. If you are taking the Red Line, the Orange Line, the Blue Line, or the Silver Line you’ll need to transfer to the Green Line.

There are two options on the MBTA's Green Line: the B train or the D train.

B train and Newton Campus shuttle

The B train ends at the Boston College T stop on Commonwealth Avenue. Once you get off the train, you will see the St. Ignatius Church directly across the street, on the corner of Fr. Herlihy Drive and Commonwealth Avenue. Walk on Commonwealth Avenue, past the Boston College T stop, the Career Center, and dormitories. The BC shuttle stop is at the Main Gate of the Chestnut Hill Campus. Take the Newton Campus shuttle bus, which goes directly to BC Law.

If you decide to take the B line, allow yourself extra time; it makes many stops.

D train and walking

If you take the D train to the Newton Centre T stop, you can walk 15–20 minutes to the Law School.

After you get off the train, walk up the steps, where you’ll see several shops directly across from you. Cross the street and proceed on Herrick Road until you see the First Baptist Church on one corner and Liberty Travel on the other. Cross the street and make a right onto Centre Street. (Starbucks, CVS, the Newton Centre Playground, the Greek Evangelical Church, and the Trinity Episcopal Church will be on your left.) Continue on Centre Street past Commonwealth Avenue and through the residential area. You’ll see a stone wall, with the BC Law entrance on your left.
