Today, The Black Keys (“America’s Most Trusted Band” -Stephen Colbert) announce their World Tour of America. The band will perform three intimate shows in Oxford, MS, Athens, GA, and St Petersburg, FL, surrounding their performance at Pilgrimage Fest in Tennessee. A portion of each set at these intimate shows will consist of songs from the band’s new album, Delta Kream, which features eleven Mississippi hill country blues songs by artists including R. L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. Patrick Carney said of these dates, which the band hopes to make a tradition: “Dan and I have joked about doing a tour of American cities named after other cities in the world since we were touring together in a van. It feels like now is as good a time as any and we are excited to play in some places we haven’t played since the early days of the band and for fans that have not had a chance to see us in a while.” Tickets for these dates will go on sale here on Friday, July 23 at 10am Local Time. Members of the Lonely Boys and Girls Club will have access to pre-sale tickets.

The Black Keys have also announced that they will partner with the Save The Music Foundation to support elementary and middle school music programs in Mississippi—starting with Holly Springs. Fans can participate in a sweepstakes to win a once-in-a-lifetime experience with the band, with 100% of the proceeds going towards music education grants in seven schools across Mississippi. Every Save The Music school commits to having music for at least ten years, and most of the programs last far beyond that. The band shares about the program: “We’ve teamed up with Save The Music – a national non-profit dedicated to building school music programs – and a group of local Mississippi partners to contribute instruments and teacher support to schools in the Hill Country. The goal is to grow music programs across the state, starting this coming school year with Holly Springs.” Fans can view sweepstakes details and participate at:  https://www.propeller.la/theblackkeys

The Black Keys’ tenth studio album, Delta Kream , was released on May 14, 2021 and recorded at Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville. The album takes its name from William Eggleston’s iconic Mississippi photograph that is on its cover. Delta Kream  is available for purchase on all formats here .

CRITICAL PRAISE FOR DELTA KREAM

“By spending the time playing the blues that’s buried deep in their soul, the Black Keys reveal how far they’vegone in a space of 20 years...”

  “[Delta Kream] finds Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney doing what they do best, riding a smoky electric bluesgroove that gives Auerbach plenty of space to wrangle some emotion out of his guitar.”

  “A tribute to the roots and blues music they were raised on, featuring some of its most formative play- ers … a slow-rolling swagger through a bygone era, gilded by the band’s own faithful imitations … a living history lesson, too.”

-Entertainment Weekly

  “Stellar… an exciting foray into Hill Country blues combined with The Black Keys’ signature garage rock sound.”

-Consequence of Sound

  “Thick, swampy sonics created by the four players as they weave these licks together with the intensity and sheer love of the music that clearly runs through their veins… if enough Keys fans are encouraged to explore the originals, this project will have accomplished its mission.”

-No Depression

  “The Keys have streamlined some great blues songs into sleek, rock-leaning jams.”

-Rolling Stone

  “Their mastery of the unmathematical Hill Country style oozes here from every groove. Their back-to- our-roots arc is hardly new, but this music is timeless, alive, and about as good as it gets.”

  “Recorded with former RL Burnside guitarist Kenny Brown and bassist Eric Deaton, this revisits raw and mesmerising RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough ’juke’ numbers ... you completely understand how the simple groove and ringing of the strings might act as a revivifying tonic.”

Formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001, The Black Keys, who have been called   “rock royalty” by the Associated Press and   “one of the best rock ‘n’ roll bands on the planet” by Uncut , are guitarist/singer Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. Cutting their teeth playing small clubs, the band have gone on to sell out arena tours and have released nine previous studio albums: their debut The Big Come Up (2002), followed by Thickfreakness (2003) and Rubber Factory (2004), along with their releases on Nonesuch Records, Magic Potion (2006), Attack & Release (2008), Brothers (2010), El Camino (2011), Turn Blue (2014) and, most recently, “ Let’s Rock ” (2019), plus and a tenth anniversary edition of Brothers (2020). The band has won six Grammy Awards and a BRIT and headlined festivals in North America, South America, Mexico, Australia, and Europe.   THE BLACK KEYS WORLD TOUR OF AMERICA

The Black Keys are singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. Last year, the duo received its 14th Grammy nomination, this time for Best Contemporary Blues Album for Delta Kream , which was released in May 2021 by Nonesuch Records. The project, which features 11 Mississippi hill country blues songs by artists such as R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, was the band’s fifth consecutive top 10 debut on The Billboard 200. Pitchfork said of the album, “By spending the time playing the blues that’s buried deep in their soul, the Black Keys reveal how far they’ve gone in a space of 20 years,” while the UK’s Independent said, “The blues flow through The Black Keys’ music as steady as the Mississippi River. Now they’re going right to the source on Delta Kream , a sweltering collection of some of their favourite hill country blues standards. The fact they’re exploring such familiar territory is to the album’s benefit. The Black Keys know this music as well as their own. Delta Kream celebrates true musicianship. A soundtrack for those hot and heady nights of late summer. It’s brilliant.” Delta Kream also made Best of 2021 lists from several publications, including both Uncut and Mojo.

Most recently, The Black Keys released the Super Deluxe 10th anniversary edition of their landmark seventh studio album, El Camino in late 2021. El Camino was produced by Danger Mouse and The Black Keys and was recorded in the band’s then-new hometown of Nashville during the spring of 2011. The Black Keys won three awards at the 55 th annual Grammys for El Camino —Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album—among other worldwide accolades.

I love to finally have been able to see them!

There were a few things that would've made this experience better for me:

* too much time between songs and not with chit chat with the audience, just silence;

* yeah, more chit chat and engagement with the audience;

* the voice was drowned by the music too many times;

* which was even worse when they decided to slow sing some of their not so slow songs - we cannot hear you sing and now we do not have the hard drums in the background;

* the venue is just not a good venue for concerts (which is the case with big venues like that, makes you feel restricted) so advice for the band is to not perform in such venues, which I know is difficult because there are so many of us wanting to see them, so where else to play?! Music festivals!!!

The experience with Song kick was horrible... I bought tickets off of their website and then when I went to pick them up, they informed me at Willcall that I have been scammed... as there were no tickets waiting for me. Dont buy with this app... I lost 150 bucks. Its shit.

Thanks for fucking me guys!

I've been a Black Keys fan since they released Magic Potion in 2007. They've consistently been my favorite band and I am proud to still be their biggest fan. This was the 4th time I've seen them live and by far the most impressive performance. Even though we were far back, the entire section rocked out like we were front row. They played all their greatest hits including some off their old albums like Oceans & Streams, Thickfreakness, and Magic Potion. The new music rocks out so I am so pleased with this experience I now call, the best concert of my life. I will travel to Boston on October 11th to see them live for my 25th birthday - LET'S ROCK!

The Black Keys

The Black Keys have quietly canceled their upcoming International Players Tour, which was scheduled to bring them to arenas throughout North America.

The tour, announced in early April, was scheduled to kick off in September, with dates set for New York City’s Madison Square Garden and Los Angeles’ Kia Forum. The 31-date trek would have brought them across North America, with stops planned in Seattle, Boston and Milwaukee before concluding at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena on Nov. 12. All dates have been marked as canceled on Ticketmaster’s website.

Management and publicity for the Black Keys did not respond to Variety ‘s requests for comment.

After news broke on Saturday that the tour had been canceled, the group posted on Instagram explaining that they had to reconfigure their tour to bring a similarly “exciting, intimate experience” for fans and that tickets for the original trek would be refunded in full.

“The band wants to assure everyone that Dan & Patrick are alive and well,” reads the caption. “Following the recent run of shows in the UK & Europe, including stops at iconic venues like Brixton Academy and the Zenith in Paris, we have decided to make some changes to the North American leg of the International Players Tour that will enable us to offer a similarly exciting, intimate experience for both fans and the band, and will be announcing a revised set of dates shortly. Everyone who had purchased tickets and/or VIP to the initial tour dates will be fully refunded – and when the new plans are announced, will be the first to be able to buy tickets. Thank you for your understanding and apologies for the surprise change… We’re pretty sure everyone is going to be excited when you see what we have in mind though, and look forward to seeing everyone soon.”

The Black Keys, which consists of Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach, were set to kick off the tour in support of their most recent album “Ohio Players,” which released in April. On Wednesday, the pair appeared on NBC’s “The Voice,” where they performed “Beautiful People (Stay High).”

The band also recently debuted the documentary “This Is a Film About the Black Keys,” which had its world premiere at SXSW last month. The film explored the historical tensions between the bandmates as well as what united them. “We’ve figured each other out, for the most part,” said Auerbach in the doc. “We’re just two very opinionated, hard-headed people, trapped for eternity together.”

How Could Jennifer Lopez or The Black Keys Have Avoided Canceling Arena Tours?

After a record year for live music in 2023, last month saw two high-profile arena tour cancellations, with Jennifer Lopez calling off her This Is Me…Live Tour and The Black Keys canceling the North American leg of their International Players Tour .

On the new Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Katie & Keith are talking about what happened with the two treks and what might have prevented their cancellations. We even picked the brain of Dave Brooks, Billboard ‘s senior director of live music & touring, to ask about some of the missteps at play and what might have been a better routing or pricing plan for the two acts — or any musicians paying attention to their cautionary tales. Black Keys North American tour being revised, with full refunds promised

May 28 (UPI) -- Rock duo The Black Keys announced a halt to the North American leg of the band's so-called International Players tour to rework which venues will host the shows.

"Following the recent run of shows in the U.K. & Europe, including stops at iconic venues like Brixton Academy and the Zenith in Paris, we have decided to make some changes to the North American leg of the International Players tour that will enable us to offer a similarly exciting, intimate experience for both fans and the band," The Black Keys announced on X.

The band said fans who bought tickets to canceled shows will receive full refunds.

Why some major artists are suddenly canceling shows, and in some cases entire tours

A series of tour cancellations and changes by big-name artists has sparked questions about whether the post-pandemic live music boom could be cooling, as consumer spending fatigue meets elevated ticket prices.

On Friday, Jennifer Lopez announced she was canceling her 2024 tour , citing a desire to spend more time with her family. Meanwhile, the Black Keys announced they were abandoning a stadium tour in favor of a series of shows at smaller venues.

Both tours had recently become the subject of social media fodder, namely screenshots showing empty venues at select tour dates. (NBC News could could not directly verify their authenticity.)

Silhouettes of people enjoying a concert

Indeed, some of the evidence of a slowdown is anecdotal. SeatGeek said in an email that the average resale ticket price to attend a summer concert is down to $213 from $257 around this time last year. The company suggested some of the decline could be attributed to the absence of megatours on par with Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” and Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” outings last year.

For artists whose popularity has crescendoed, there appears to be plenty of demand — and high prices. The average resale price for Olivia Rodrigo’s “Guts” tour is $571, and the next-highest is $409 to see Morgan Wallen, according to SeatGeek data first reported by Axios .

Many of those tours are being sold through Ticketmaster and its parent Live Nation. And prior to facing landmark accusations that it is a monopoly , a claim it denies, Live Nation reported its biggest first quarter ever, with $3.8 billion in revenues. Its concerts business alone was up 26% to $2.9 billion, while “estimated fans” globally were up more than 20%, and up 42% in North America.

Yet official government data points to the makings of a return to a more normal pace for live music event sales after a post-pandemic boom. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported last month that movie and concert admissions prices climbed just 3.4% year over year through April, the lowest reading since 2021 and the second-consecutive month showing a slowdown.

Dave Clark, editor of Ticket News, which tracks the live entertainment industry, said the period of explosive live music growth following pandemic reopenings may in hindsight be seen as an aberration: People were simply more eager — and more financially able — to go to as many shows as they could after months cooped up indoors.

This year, Clark said, a reckoning may be emerging.

“The days where there was enough demand to sell out arenas at top dollar just isn’t there in this live events economy — outside of people like Taylor Swift who can sell whatever they want wherever they want,” he said.

At a time when many consumers are struggling to pay for basic necessities, he said, “people are seeing some of the prices they’re asking and just saying, ‘Hard pass.’”

Another factor may be a supply issue, Clark added: too many acts trying to tour at once, or too many times. In the pre-streaming era, bands would go on tour as a way of marketing an album. These days, he said, it’s reversed, since the returns on recorded music have shrunk dramatically.

“Now they’re making records to sell the tour,” he said. “That paradigm has a lot to do with it. It’s just a very overloaded market.”

The Black Keys did just release a new album, and its debut single hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart in March.

Still, the rock duo announced it would cancel and reschedule its summer touring plans, switching from arenas to other venues that provide a more “intimate experience,” according to the band. The new dates have not yet been announced.

The Black Keys aren’t the only group that may be falling victim to costly concert fatigue.

Pop-rock band 311 announced it had canceled upcoming European tour dates due to the “rising costs of touring overseas,” which made completing certain portions of the tour “unfeasible.”

Other stars including Pink and Justin Timberlake have also recently canceled specific show dates, while the Jonas Brothers recently postponed their upcoming European tour , though none officially cited financial concerns as reasons for doing so.

“I think with all that competition for fan dollars, it was obviously natural that some artists were going to lose,” said Bill Werde, director of the Syracuse University Bandier Program for Recording and Entertainment Industries.

There are still plenty of large-scale tours planned for this summer that, so far, appear to be unaffected by flagging demand. Hootie & the Blowfish have 48 dates booked this year, while Dave Matthews Band is slated for 34. Other top acts hitting the road include Maroon 5, Zac Brown Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kenny Chesney and Chris Stapleton.

But experts say recent economic trends in the live-music industry, especially the type of consolidation the Justice Department is now targeting, have translated into fewer smaller-sized venues.

That’s made it more difficult for a given tour date to make financial sense for the artist, venue and promoter.

“Some shows, they can’t afford to drop prices; they can’t afford to wait to try to sell out the rest of the building,” Clark said.

If there is uncertainty about all stakeholders being able to at least break even, he said, the show might get canceled.

Such realities have collided with a more circumspect concertgoer. Brittney D’Mello, a 23-year-old K-pop fan from New Jersey who works in corporate marketing, posted to X about her frustrations with the current touring landscape.

“The tickets are too expensive,” D’Mello said. “There’s only a SMALL amount of people (10%) that will spend $500+ on vip/floor/premium,” she said. “The rest of us have budgets and won’t spend $100 on nosebleeds,” she said, referring to seats that are typically the farthest away from the stage.

“Everyone is touring this year … and we only have money for 2-3 concerts MAX,” she added.

In a follow-up interview with NBC News, D’Mello said she simply decided to cap her concert budget.

“I will only go see two artists that are my tried-and-true favorite artists,” she said. “But I won’t be casually going to concerts anymore. And after going to concerts twice, I think that’s where I stop.”
