Hybrid Homecoming at Humboldt

The fun kicks off with the grand opening of the new Student Activities Center , HSU ’s reimagined student union with new eateries, video games, and a movie lounge. Homecoming Week will feature live music, Virtual Drag Queen Bingo, and more. Events are also open to staff and faculty.

All-Abilities Organized Group Bike Ride An all-abilities group bicycle ride along the Arcata Bike Trail to the Marsh and back. No bike? No problem! Show up to get a FREE ride on a bike-share bike. Virtual open forum with chancellor joseph i. castro.

Humboldt State University is excited to host a virtual visit with the new California State University Chancellor Joseph I. Castro on Tuesday, April 27.

Part of a virtual tour of all 23 CSU campuses that started last month, the visit presents an opportunity for the Chancellor to get to know HSU by meeting various stakeholders from campus and the local community. The constituents, schedule, and format were determined based on requests by the Chancellor’s Office.

Throughout the day, Chancellor Castro will learn more about Humboldt State’s innovative teaching and learning, research, programs, current initiatives, and the significant impact HSU has on the North Coast.

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to a virtual open forum, which will be an opportunity to learn about the Chancellor and for him to answer some questions that are submitted.

About Chancellor Joseph I. Castro

Chancellor Castro

Dr. Joseph I. Castro serves as the eighth chancellor to lead the California State University (CSU). He is the first Californian and first person of color to serve in this role. The grandson of immigrants from Mexico and the son of a single mother, Dr. Castro was the first in his family to graduate from a university. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in higher education policy and leadership from Stanford University. He is a renowned and gifted scholar in the fields of leadership and public policy, and has mentored hundreds of other scholars and practitioners, including many university presidents and senior officers.

Prior to his appointment as CSU chancellor in September 2020, Dr. Castro served as president of California State University, Fresno, beginning in 2013. He also worked in the University of California system for 23 years, serving as vice chancellor of Student Academic Affairs and as professor of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco from 2006 to 2013. Earlier in his career, he held faculty or administrative leadership positions at four other University of California campuses: Berkeley, Davis, Merced and Santa Barbara.

Residences continuing students and new transfer students

The Creekview complex is comprised of four three-story buildings, with a centrally located lounge and a laundry room.

About Creekview

Creekview Apartments (Fern & Willow) have a full kitchen, living room, dining area, and bathroom. All rooms are furnished with a bed, desk, dresser, and closet. All beds are standard twin. The apartments house 6 students, either in two double rooms and one single or in three doubles. Individual apartments are single-gender or coed. In the coed apartments, residents of the same gender are assigned to the double rooms. Creekview Apartments residents are required to purchase any one of the on-campus meal plans. No custodial services are provided.

Creekview Suites (Juniper & Laurel) have a mini kitchenette (with induction stovetop*), living room, dining area and a bathroom. Individual suites are single gender or coed. In the coed suites, residents of the same gender are assigned to the double rooms. All rooms are furnished with a bed, desk, dresser, and closet. All beds are standard twin, except for rooms that end with the number 6; these rooms have extra long twin beds. The suites house 6 students in two double rooms and two single rooms, or in a double, single, and triple room. The newly created triple rooms offer a unique space that combines a former double and single room for our lowest rate. Creekview Suites residents are required to purchase one of the “All Access” meal plans. No custodial services are provided

Residents in Creekview Apartments and Creekview Suites are not allowed to have microwaves and mini refrigerators in their bedrooms.  Microwaves and refrigerators are provided in the kitchen area of each apartment or suite. Students with medical needs requiring additional refrigeration space should contact the Campus Disability Resource Center at [email protected] .

Residents of each apartment or suite are responsible for the cleaning of the common area kitchen, bathroom, living room, and hallway. Residents are responsible for supplying toiletries and bathroom tissue. There is optional telephone service in each room and each apartment unit has an optional cable TV hook-up and is wired for computer connectivity through ResNet.

*Please look for induction-compatible cookware to use with the induction stovetop.
