A man found dead alongside a woman at a Midlands home was a paramedic for West Midlands Ambulance Service . Colleagues said the death of Daniel Duffield, who starred in Channel 4's 999: On the Frontline, was a "great tragedy".

The 24-year-old's body was found at a house in Alpine Drive in Hednesford, sparking a murder investigation. Lauren Evans, 22, from Bridgend was named as the second person found at the property just after midday on Tuesday, June 25.

Medics discovered the pair after being called to a concern for welfare at the house. However it was "immediately obvious" that nothing could be done to save them.

Daniel, who worked as a paramedic based in Willenhall, was described as a "well-known" member of staff who was "always keen to help and support his colleagues". Ambulance service staff were now being provided with specialist support as they come to terms with his death.

Richard Barratt, senior operations manager at the Willenhall hub, said: “Daniel Duffield was a well-known member of staff and always keen to help and support his colleagues. His death at such a young age is a great tragedy. I hope Daniel’s family can take some comfort from the hundreds of patients he helped through his time as a paramedic. Our thoughts go out to the families of both of those found at the scene.”

The Mirror reports that Daniel's fellow ambulance worker Ellie, who appeared in the Channel 4 documentary alongside him, left a heartfelt tribute on social media. She wrote: "'Never in a million years did I think I'd have to sit and write this and yet I'm still trying to come to terms with it.

"I just want to express how special you [were] to me, not only my best friend at work and the best crew mate but one of my best friends who had a massive impact on day to day life, the most kind hearted person who always had time to help others, who made me laugh every day and always would pick up the phone whenever I was in need."

She added: "Dan I can't believe you're actually gone. We were meant to go out together this week and I was looking forward to seeing you. Even the phone call we had this morning an hour before you [were] gone I'll never forget, love you forever Dan."

Daniel's heartbroken sister also paid tribute to her sibling, who she described as a "bright soul". She posted on Facebook: "I'm so distraught you've gone. I will never come to terms with it that you're no longer here. You (were) such a bright soul, always helping other people making them smile, laugh, saving lives but unfortunately you couldn't help yourself.

"I will forever cherish you and us growing up together; you will always be in my heart (and were) the best brother I could (have) ever asked for. I'll always miss you and love you forever. Until we meet again, RIP brother."

Detective Superintendent Nicki Addison, of Staffordshire's Major Investigations Department, said: "My thoughts are very much with the families at this time. I know this news has understandably shaken the local community. I'd like to reassure everyone that we've got a specialist team of officers working extensive hours to fully investigate what happened and support the families of those affected. I would like to thank everyone who has already come forward with information and ask that people continue to get in touch if they've got any information that can help us."

The force has referred themselves to watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to ‘recent police contact’. A force spokesperson said: “A team of specially-trained officers are continuing to support their families at this distressing time. We’ve referred the incident to (IOPC) due to recent police contact."

All the changes to Birmingham city centre National Express bus services as routes divered for tram works

There will be some 'unavoidable changes' to bus stop locations in Birmingham while tram works are carried out in April

A number of bus services in Birmingham city centre will be diverted from their usual routes in April due to tram works being carried out.

From Sunday, April 7, certain bus routes that currently serve the city centre - that you can see below - will be diverted to different stops in the city centre. This will be to allow the Midland Metro Alliance to continue work on the Eastside Metro Extension that will see an extend track laid in nearby Lower Bull Street, through Albert Street.

If you usually get on or off your bus by New Street Station, Moor Street Station, or Priory Queensway, in Birmingham city centre, your bus route is still operating, but the stop you need to use to get off or on the bus may change.

From Sunday April 7, nearby Albert Street will also be closed to vehicular traffic during the works and the taxi ranks in the area will temporarily relocate to Corporation Street, opposite the Square Peg.

Which bus services will be affected?

See below a list of affected routes/stops affected:

2, 3, 4, 4A, 5, 6, 16, 16A, 23, 24, 33, 45, 47, 51, 61, 63, 65, 66, 67, 68, 82, 87, 97, 822, 907, 907A, 934, 935, 936, 937, 937A, 997, 997S, X21, X22, X51, X64 & FD.

How will i know which bus stop to use.

From April 7, passengers who usually get off at bus stops in the city centre by New Street Station, Moor Street Station, or Priory Queensway will need to check their journeys in advance online on the TfWM journey planner, here , to see which bus stop they can get on or off at.

This next phase of the Metro extension will also see a temporary tram stop installed outside of the Clayton Hotel, allowing passengers to use this section of the route as early as 2025/26.

The changes will be in place from April 7, 2024 when track works will get underway in Moor Street Queensway. Transport for West Midlands ( TfWM ) say these works are expected to last until approximately Autumn 2024.

What has National Express and others said about the changes?

A National Express West Midlands spokesperson said: “From Sunday 7 April 2024, there will be changes to bus services and bus stop locations around Birmingham city centre during Metro extension works on Moor Street Queensway.

“All National Express West Midlands bus services will continue to run during the works and customers are advised to check our website  nxbus.co.uk  for full details of changes to bus services and bus stops ahead of April 7.”

Anne Shaw, Executive Director of TfWM, said: “The expansion of the Metro to the east of the city is an exciting scheme which will help transform and support the regeneration of Digbeth by improving connectivity and making the most out of HS2. While there will inevitably be some disruption as work starts on Moor Street Queensway later this spring we are working with the council and bus operators to ensure that this is kept to minimum.

Maria Ion, Project Director, said: “There will be some unavoidable changes to bus stop locations, however, we will be working hard to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum during the works. Moor Street Queensway will remain open, with one lane of traffic in each direction, at all times, to help keep the network moving.”
