  • Things to do

This is a family-friendly tour of the clear, Caribbean waters that surround Ambergris Caye. On this glass-bottom boat tour you’ll visit two hotpots for marine wildlife—Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley. You can choose from a morning or afternoon tour, both of which depart from the dock at Ramon’s Village.

The tour begins with a 20-minute boat ride to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. This reserve is a habitat for a huge variety of tropical fish, as well as sharks, rays, barracudas, and sea turtles. Your boat captain will drop anchor for 15 to 20 minutes to admire the marine wildlife swimming beneath the boat. If you have your swimsuit with you, take a dip to do some snorkeling. This will allow you to get a close look at the coral reef.

Next up, you’ll drop anchor in Shark Ray Alley. Friendly sharks will circle the boat, looking for a treat. If you’re feeling daring, you can snorkel here as well, although it’s important not to try to touch any of the animals.

What to Bring

Swimsuit, sunscreen, sunglasses, snorkeling equipment, and money for park entrance fee.

What's included

First take a 2 1/2 hour drive and enjoy the natial scenery from Belize City to San Ignacio. Here we take another 1 hour drive to enter the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve. From this point on you are on foot, hiking through the jungle for approximately 45 minutes to the entrance of the cave.

The hike includes three stream crossings. To access the cave, you will need to swim across a small spring-fed pool with the assistance of a rope and wade into knee-high water into the dark underworld of the cave that allows us access to the extensive underground maze of tunnels, passageways and chambers, climaxing in the ceremonial chamber housing stoneware, ceramics and the famed crystallized skeleton of the “Crystal Maiden”.

This tour is about 3 hours in the cave under the instruction of our experienced guides.

ATM was used from 700 to 900 A.D. and discovered by British military in 1980s. After surveys and researches, it was opened to the public in 2000s. You can see many untouched excavated articles.

Glass Bottom Boat

Senior citizens and kids will love this trip. As a matter of fact, the whole family will love this trip! All you have to do is get on board and we’ll do the rest. A brief twenty minute ride to Hol Chan Marine Reserve is enjoyable, and there are lots of things to see on the way. When you arrive at Hol Chan, your eyes will not believe the wonder of it all. Large fish are plentiful, but the number of small colorful fish will take your breath away. Sharks, rays and barracuda are also residents of Hol Chan as are a few sea turtles, eels and grouper. There’s no shortage of marine life, but marine life is just half of what we have here in this area of the Caribbean. The reef is the frame around our magnificent array of undersea life.

While we’re at Hol Chan, your skipper will anchor for fifteen to twenty minutes, and you can see firsthand the creative genius of this undersea wonder. If you have on your swim trunks, don your snorkel gear, and take to the water to enjoy the plethora of fish and an array of tropical marine life and coral.

Next, the glass bottom boat will take you to the amazing Shark Ray Alley where you can observe sharks and rays from the safety of your glass bottom boat or get in amongst them! That’s right, you can swim with the sharks and the stingrays in Shark Ray Alley. Dozens of nurse sharks will circle your boat as if they were the Caribbean’s welcoming committee. When you enter the water, you can observe the activities of these friendly sharks and rays up close and personal if you’re adventurous and not faint of heart. We promise you’ll talk about your shark adventure for years to come. Sorry, no scuba allowed at this site; only snorkeling.

Our coral has been around for thousands of years and is actually a living organism, so we respect the world’s second largest barrier reef. Help us take care of it because when you see it close up, it’s easy to recognize, it is truly the Creator’s masterpiece.

Trips depart Ramon’s Village dock at 9:00Am or 2:00PM and lasts about 2 1/2 Hours. Requires a minimum of 6 persons. Bottled Water and Soft Drinks included. Cost is $45 plus 12.5% tax plus $10 park fee per person. Gear not included.  It’s against the law to touch or hold any marine life while snorkeling or scuba diving.

Glass bottom boat!

It smelled like raw sewage at places around the island. We took the glass bottom boat ride. I almost got sick on it. It was such a fast ride in the boat and getting in was hard for me because I am a very short person. If you get motion sickness, I would not recommend this. I’m fine on the cruise ship so I didn’t think I would get sick on this boat but I had a hard time controlling from throwing up. You have a 4 mile very choppy and fast ride and if you’re inside the boat, you may become claustrophobic.

Nice beach. We rented a clam shell at the beach and found great chairs by the pool. We did not zip line but it looked fun. The shops were nice and clean. The drinks were a little pricey so we went back to the ship early. There were golf carts to take you back to the ship.

Cruise ship port: Very beautifully landscaped with a huge pool and beach. There is an animal area as well and vendors to buy from. They also have several zip lines and excursions you can book to see the Monkey Eco River Tour and also the manatee excursion. The beach is huge with plenty of chairs to spread out on. It's not one of the nicer beaches I've been to, but it was good enough to cool you off. They have floating rings out in the water to lay out on, which was fun. Snorkeling there....well there really isn't much. The water is not the clearest either. I did try snorkeling up by the shoreline, since there were rocks there, but they are no in deep water so only a few fish to see. The one draw back is that food is NOT free here (like it is a Great Stirrup Cay (their other island) and your drink packages will NOT work here either. So you have to buy everything at this location. They do have a golf cart tram that will take you to and from the ship. Otherwise, it's a long walk but it is covered, which keeps the heat away. They also have a marina and you can catch a ferry over to the mainland area.

Day two of our Cruise on Norwegian Cruise Lines "Joy" and we had booked an excursion on the WAVE RUNNER TOUR. Disembarking a bit early we decided to check out the island to check out the amenities. Looked amazing from the ship (see pics) and has some fun fun things like a huge pool with sun decks, Cabanas a great beach, shops, food and bev establishments and some great "looks" A big feature is their 1300ft Zip Line which starts from the Lighthouse and crosses the Beach area and water. Not my jam, but was pretty amazing just eyeballing it. We checked in at the Wave Runner registration and realized that we had not read the fine print on the ticket given to us on the ship, saying we need to a Drivers License. Our bad, but while they would have accepted a picture on our phone (do this!), we didn't have that either, so back to the ship. The GREAT thing is that they have large GOLF CARTS that ferry people back and forth on the dock which is a bit a hike in the sun! So no biggie! We registered and did the paperwork and checked out the island. The time arrived for us to run the waves and after a brief safety review and video, we headed to the crafts. When booking remember to determine if you are each driving or riding two to a craft. We both drove and off we went. As an experienced rider, It was everything I hoped for flying across the ocean water lead by a guide who challenged us with artful maneuvers and always vigilant. As some of the better drivers moved ahead, we circled allowing others to catch up, and as expected, some did not continue as I don't recommend this for your first trip. But we loved it going past our ship and along and through Mangrove covered islands taking a break to see the starfish and take a dip. We then roared back to home base but not before more fantastic fun, riding the waves, splash down landings, soaking wet and all in the Caribbean sea in Belize. I want to throw out a big thank you to the guides who followed and led our run. In strange waters you need to be super careful and having these folks along gave us the confidence we needed to crank up the machines - full throttle. No confirmation, but I am sure the machines were governed, but still hit 25 MPH and kept it fun. Perfect day on Harvest Caye.

glass bottom boat tour belize

NCL has two private islands. Harvest Caye is basically a sanitized touristy version of Belize. NCL has no control over the corrupt government who is keen on extracting every dollar they can from tourists with over priced food, beverages, and over-priced stuff all made in China The beach is lovely and so is the pool. We chose to wait until back on the ship so as not to spend any money on the island.

glass bottom boat tour belize

Gorgeous place! Very private and quiet. Beautiful ocean. Loved the floaters on the ocean placed by NCL Clean area, not crowded . Plenty of canopies and lounge chairs. The dock for ferries to go to Belize is right there.
