The bus is the perfect solution for visitors worldwide because they offer pre-recorded audio narratives and translations in five languages — French, German, Spanish, Italian, and English.

Are There Toilets on the Big Bus

No. Unlike charter buses, you won’t travel long between stops. So the best thing to do is exit at a stop, find a public restroom, see an attraction, if desired, and then catch the next bus.

If you are not sure where to find one, ask a Big Bus guide on the street. The driver may also have some suggestions.

Charter buses come equipped with a bathroom because travel is expected to be for a much longer period.

How Does the Big Bus Tour Work in New York City

The tour offers three options for purchase — 1-day, 2-day, and 3-day.

When you decide the number of days of your tour and purchase your ticket, the clock starts when your ticket is scanned while boarding the bus for the first time.

The ticket is good for 24, 48, or 72 hours. So, if you have a 1-day ticket and board the bus at 11:00 AM on Monday, it can still be used until 11:00 AM on Tuesday.

We found a ton of touring options for sightseeing in New York.

Aside from the extended period, the 2 and 3-day tickets also offer discounted bike rentals.

The buses run every 20 minutes on average. However, the first stop at the M&M store can be a long wait during peak season.

You can exit or board at any of the designated stops as much as you want.

The only exclusion is the one-loop tour Night Tour which is a panoramic non-stop tour.

Where to Catch the Big Bus Tour in New York City

During the tour, the buses only stop at designated stops.

Your ticket is good for as long as the buses operate during the day and it may be used on both the red and blue routes.

When you board, make sure you get a hop-on hop-off New York bus route map!

Big Bus NYC Red Route

The red route sightseeing tour covers lower Manhattan and you’ll see many landmarks like St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Wall Street, the Chrysler Building, and General Grant’s Tomb.

You can catch a tour at any one of the following bus stops and you can get your tickets in advance of boarding.

1 – M&M’s World – 7th Ave & W 48th St (Outside M&M World & Majestic Deli)

2 – Times Square East – W 42nd St & Broadway (at Knickerbocker Hotel)

3 – Empire State Building / Korea Town – 5th Ave & W 32nd St (at CVS Pharmacy)

4 – Flatiron District – 5th Ave & W 23rd St (at Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop)

5 – SoHo – Broadway and Spring Street (at Nike Store)

6 – Chinatown / Little Italy – 100 Lafayette Street (near the corner at Walker St)

7 – Brooklyn Bridge – Park Row & Beekman St (across from 33 Park Row)

8 – Wall Street / Charging Bull – Broadway & Wall St (Southwest corner near Rector St)

9 – Statue of Liberty / Battery Park – State St and Bridge St (at Subway Entrance)

10 – Circle Line Sightseeing – 12th Ave & 40th St (opposite Pier 81)

11 – Times Square North – 7th Ave & W 50th St (at Majestic Deli)

Big Bus NYC Blue Route

The blue route covers upper Manhattan, and half of the ride is mostly views of Central Park. You can switch to the blue route at red stop #2.

We recommend changing routes at stop #11 (the Majestic Deli) where you can take a break and have a nice lunch.

12 – The Metropolitan Museum of Art – 5th Ave & E 83rd St (near 83rd St)

13 – Central Park Zoo – 5th Ave & E 66th St (opposite 845 5th Ave)

14 – Columbus Circle – Central Park & Columbus Circle (SW corner of Central Park)

Tips and Things to Know Before You Go

The bus has two levels, the upper level offers panoramic views of the city but be careful of overhanging traffic lights and trees. Don’t stand while the bus is in motion.

• After you find a seat, check the audio to confirm it is working.
• Snacks are allowed. Bring a frozen bottle of water and protein bites to keep you energized.
• When on the upper deck, cover up with sunscreen to protect your skin on hot sunny days.
• If you are a family of 3 or more, take seats across from one another so you’ll have views and photos from both sides of the bus.

Tourists were lined up at stop #1 at least an hour before departure and the line extended the entire block and rounded the corner.

We decided to see other points of interest and returned around 11:00 AM.

The wait to board the bus was about 20 minutes. It was a relaxing ride and there we saw so much!

By the time we reached stop #9, we were pumped and ready to exit the bus so that we could explore the city! And you probably will be too.

Here’s the secret sauce that really made the experience memorable. Exit at stop #9 and take a FREE ferry to Staten Island.

To see the Statue of Liberty, stand on the left side of the boat. When returning, stand on the right side.

Final Thoughts About the Big Bus Tour in New York City

Overall, the tour was a pleasant way to see New York city and when you are on the upper deck, you hardly notice the traffic.

Some other advantages of seeing the city by bus include:

• Avoiding parking hassles. I mean, who actually drives in New York?!
• Photo opportunities. With the open-top or large windows, you have excellent photo opportunities as you pass by iconic landmarks and cityscapes.
• Comprehensive sightseeing of major landmarks and attractions within two hours.
• You can get local recommendations from the guides who operate the bus.

I usually opt for a hop-on hop-off bus when I am short on time or to get my bearings in the city before deciding what to do.

Either way, when you take the tour bus, it doesn’t appear impossible to take a bite out of the Big Apple.

9-year-old left sleeping, locked on school bus for hours in Detroit

Detroit mom furious after her child was left sleeping on school bus.

"My baby is 9 years old. He’s traumatized, he doesn't want to go to school, he's afraid to even get back on the bus," the child's mother told FOX 2.

DETROIT (FOX 2) - A Detroit mother is furious after her 9-year-old son was left sleeping on a school bus for hours on Wednesday.

The mom, Tashonda Bennett, said her older son found the 9-year-old on the bus around 9:30 p.m. – when he'd usually be home by 3:45 p.m.

"I just don’t know what to do. I feel like my son shouldn’t have had to go through that," Bennett said. "My baby is 9 years old. He’s traumatized, he doesn't want to go to school, he's afraid to even get back on the bus… I feel like school failed us. It was my child who found my baby."

Bennet explained that her son, who attends Detroit Service Learning Academy, got on the school bus Wednesday morning with his 14-year-old sister.

The boy made it to school, and then got back on the bus to come home after school, the mom said. She fell asleep and did not realize her son was missing until 7 p.m.

Bennett started frantically calling anyone and everyone – including the bus driver.

"The bus driver didn’t even come here," she said. "He told me that my son did not get on the bus, which means he never knew that my son was even back there asleep. Thats what makes me think that he didn’t do his walk through."

If the bus driver had done his walk through, he would have seen the child asleep in the back of the bus, Bennet added. The boy's older sister saw him back on the bus to head home; the sister stayed at school for practice.

"She kept stressing to me – ‘mom I put him on the bus,’" Bennett said.

So the mother called the school, police, and her family to try and find her baby.

"The police didn’t find my child, the school didn’t know where my son was, my son’s brother and grandmother found my son sleeping on the bus at 9:30 (p.m.)," Bennett said.

The boy's 16-year-old brother lifted him out of the bus from a hatch on top of the vehicle. 

"He was asleep. I was banging on the window. He woke up, he was wiping his eyes, looking around, and he just started crying," the brother said. "I knew there was a hatch (on top of the bus), so I opened the hatch."

Detroit police confirmed the sequence of events.

"It takes the police, and it takes the community acting together in this situation, my officers collaborated with the grandmother. The grandmother went to one location, while the officers were handling business here," according to Detroit police.

FOX 2 asked the Service Learning District Superintendent DeAngelo Alexander if the bus driver involved is on leave or if they are still working – but we did not receive an answer.

However, Alezander sent a statement saying that this has never happened before.

"We are addressing this matter with the staff involved. Additionally, we will be conducting a thorough review of our policies and procedures to ensure that our practices are aligned with the highest standards in the transportation industry," according to the statement.

Kindergartner suffers head injury on Taylor school bus, dad demands answers

A kindergarten student suffered an open-head wound on a Taylor School District bus that was parked at Eureka Heights Elementary School. The child's family still do not know how he sustained the injury.

"I just don’t know what to do, but I can’t let this slide. I can’t," Bennett said.

We live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world , and Paris is fortunate to be close to many sublime destinations . With the May long weekends just around the corner, to fill your spring weekends or for a day trip day trip, here are our 5 favorite getaways within 2 hours of Paris !

A brief clarification of what is meant by “less than 2 hours from Paris” : the journey must be made in less than 2 hours , and we give priority to soft mobility , especially the train. We exclude air travel here, as a flight of less than 2 hours  does not necessarily mean a journey of less than 2 hours from Paris , taking into account the time spent at the airport and the journey to and from it.

One of the many “painters’ villages near Paris giverny is perhaps our favourite, along with Auvers-sur-Oise . Just 70 kilometers from the capital , Giverny is a real cultural and natural change of sc enery. Accessible from Paris by train in just under an hour , and just under an hour and a half by car , this bucolic little town is located in Normandy , close to the border with the Île-de-France region. Here you will find Claude Monet Gardens – Giverny a true haven of artistic peace , preserved exactly as it was when the painter lived here between 1883 and 1926 . The Musée de l’Impressionisme is also worth a visit, as is the heart of the village . The Normandy countryside will immerse you in Impressionist paintings , a guaranteed escape from the hustle and bustle of the capital.

Less than an hour by TGV from the Gare de l’Est, Reims is the ideal destination for combining a city break with a nature outing . The unofficial capital of Champagne , this Grand Est metropolis is a cultural treasure trove brimming with heritage. The city of kings , which has witnessed the coronation of numerous French monarchs in its sublime Notre-Dame-de-Reims cathedral , is of course also the epicenter of the world of champagne . Enthusiasts of wine and wine-tasting will find a number of internationally renowned houses here – Veuve Cliquot, Moët & Chandon and Dom Pérignon – while culture buffs can explore the city’s many monuments and museums . Just a stone’s throw from Reims, the landscapes of the Marne region open up to you, with their vineyards and the Montagne de Reims regional nature park.

The Loire Valley

If you’ve already done the most beautiful castles to visit near Paris if you’re looking for the perfect getaway in the heart of the Loire Valley, then this is the place for you. Chenonceau, Chambord , and a score of other equally majestic and sublime estates… Along the Loire, a journey back in time awaits you, when castles bloomed in the region like flowers in springtime. Located just over 150 kilometers south of Paris , the Loire Valley is accessible by train in just 1 hour to Orléans or Tours, and 2 hours to Blois or Angers. By car, only Orléans and Blois can be reached in 2 hours , and you’ll need to concentrate on the surrounding châteaux. We advise you to take your bike with you, so you can enjoy the Loire à Vélo , a 900-kilometre long cyclo-tourist route.

Less than 2 hours from Paris by TGV from the Gare de Lyon – of course – the ancient capital of the Gauls is a must-see city break . Perhaps the only other gastronomic metropolis in France to rival Paris – our colleagues from Lyon Secret lyon is a vibrant city, full of life. From the Parc de la Tête d’Or to the slopes of the Croix Rousse, via the Presqu’Île and the old Saint-Jean district, Lyon ‘s neighborhoods each offer a different atmosphere and ambience, and its human scale means you can discover it (almost) entirely on foot. A pleasure in fine weather, for a town in the throes of renewal , with many historic vestiges . And those with a sweet tooth won’t need much more than a short jaunt to sample the local culinary specialties born of the Rhone Valley’ s rich gastronomic history.

While it would have been easy to recommend Deauville for a seaside getaway , we prefer its more discreet neighbor, Honfleur . Back to Normandy for this bucolic seaside village which illustrates our article, and which is just a 2-hour drive from Paris . Another cradle of Impressionism , the colorful facades of the buildings along its old port have been painted many times by such greats as Claude Monet , Gustave Courbet and George Seurat. Today, artists still gather on the quayside to paint the bucolic atmosphere of Honfleur . For those who want to bask in the sun, the little town also has its fair share of beaches , and is just a stone’s throw from the metropolis of Le Havre for city dwellers. And if you fancy a trip to the 7th art, Deauville is only 25 minutes away by car, or 1 hour by TER.
