What is UAE Visit Visa?

A UAE Visit Visa is basically an entry permit required by foreigners who wish to visit the UAE. There are two types of UAE Visit Visa – the Single-Entry Visit Visa and the Multiple-Entry Visit Visa. Both can be issued for 30 or 60 days according to your plans and schedule. While most visitors are tourists lured by the UAE’s world-class attractions, many come for a variety of other reasons. These include exploring job or business opportunities, pursuing educational studies, or seeking medical treatment at internationally-renowned hospitals. Yet more come to visit family and friends living in the UAE while others are simply transiting through the country. Whatever the reason, a UAE Visit Visa is the starting point for your Arabian adventure – contact us today

Eligibility

To apply for a UAE Visit Visa you will need a passport valid for at least 6 months. Some countries have special arrangements with the UAE allowing their citizens to travel without a visa. Instead, these citizens receive a free On Arrival visa when they enter the country. However, citizens of some other countries, such as South Africa , Turkey , Albania , Algeria , Morocco , Egypt , Jordan , India , Pakistan and Sri Lanka must apply for a prepaid visit visa. You will also need to show a return flight ticket when applying and may be asked for some additional documentation. But no need to worry – it’s very easy to apply for a UAE Visit Visa compared to most other countries.

Women and Children

The UAE culture is very protective of women and children and this extends to all its visitors. It is proud of its reputation as one of the safest countries in the world in which to live and to travel. The UAE Visit Visa Rules reflect this by imposing age restrictions to ensure the wellbeing of females and youngsters alike. If you are a female and want to travel to the UAE alone, you must be 18 years of age or above. If you are under 18, you should be accompanied by your parents or guardian. And as a bonus, from July 15 to September 15 each year, your visa will come compliments of the UAE

Parents in UAE: What if one or both of your parents already have a valid UAE work permit? In that case it will be easier for you to get a UAE Visa too. However you may be asked to submit supporting documents for your application.

* Nigerian Applicants Please Note: Nigerian citizens, whether male or female, travelling alone to the UAE, should be 40 years of age or older. The same applies to a Nigerian married woman travelling with children. Certain age restrictions also apply to Nigerian passport holders applying for a 3-month Dubai Visa.

Documents Required

The basic requirements to apply for a UAE visit visa are as follows:

  • A color copy of your passport with a clear scanned photo of excellent definition.
  • A separate recent good color photograph of yourself taken against a white background.

Depending on the country you come from, you may need additional documents, including the following

UAE Visit Visa Validity

If you plan to extend or renew your Visit Visa, you should first know how long it is valid for. You will also want to know whether you get a grace period when the visa expires. This is important because overstaying your visa’s validity period can incur heavy fines.

  • Validity Period: Every type of UAE Visit Visa has its own validity period which dictates how long you can stay. If you don’t have a grace period and remain in the country after expiry, you are ‘overstaying your visa’. For example, a 30-day single-entry visit visa will expire 30 days from your entry date. Similarly a 60-day multiple-entry visit visa will expire 60 days from your first entry but this visa does, of course, allow you to leave and re-enter the UAE numerous times within the 60 days
  • Grace Period: When your UAE Visit Visa expires, you only qualify for a grace period if it is an On-Arrival visa for specific nationalities. The grace period is the time you are allowed to stay in the UAE after your official expiry date. It is a ‘courtesy extension’ and, during this time, you will not be charged any overstaying penalties. If, however, you have a Prepaid Visit Visa, there is no grace period and the expiry date strictly applies.

Extending UAE Visit Visa

If you entered the UAE with a prepaid visa, you can extend it twice. The first extension will be for 30 days and the second will get you another 30 days. Indeed, there are a number of different ways to extend your stay in the UAE, These include crossing the border to a neighboring country or doing the airport to airport visa change. Every year many thousands of visitors to the UAE decide they want to stay longer than originally planned. At Arabiers we know all the options – and take delight in helping you extend your UAE experience.

UAE on-arrival Visit Visa for Indians

Most Indian nationals coming to the UAE have to apply for a prepaid UAE Visit Visa. But some Indians residing outside their native country qualify for a 14-day On Arrival Visa by applying in GDRFA (Previously given this speical on arrival in airport, from 2024 May pre apply on arrival visa online). A special regulation introduced in 2017 bestows the privilege on Indian nationals with the following visas and permits:

  • USA Green Card
  • EU Residence Permit valid for at least 6 months
  • UK residence Permit valid for at least 6 months

This particular on-arrival visa, however, is not free – but you will only have to pay 63 USD to get it. And you can extend this visa for another 14 days by paying AED 250 to UAE Immigration.

Six Months UAE Visa

The UAE government, in July 2019, introduced a 6-month UAE visit visa. The visa is available to entrepreneurs, investors, brilliant professionals and students of exceptional distinction. This visa is issued to people who qualify for it and they want to obtain a long-term residence permit to the UAE in some time. If you don’t fall into any of the categories mentioned, you cannot apply for the 6 months UAE visit visa so you can alternatively opt for the regular six months visa.

UAE Immigration Contacts

If you wish to independently contact the relevant immigration authorities like ICP , for any reason, their numbers are below. They will help you with any questions about UAE visa types, the Visa fee and any other general inquiries. They will also assist you in making a personal UAE visit visa validity check if that is what is concerning you.

Which emirate you receive your Visa from does not matter at all. Whether it is issued by Abu Dhabi , Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain is immaterial. You can enter the country through any of the seven emirates and your movements are not restricted in any way. It is a UAE visit visa and you can travel freely with it anywhere in the UAE.

The UAE Mission Visa is a special entry permit issued to professionals traveling to work short-term with a UAE-based company. When you are employed under this visa, the UAE authority considers you to be a ‘probational employee’. The mission visa can only be issued by certain registered UAE companies, so keep in touch with your potential employer. Also note that the Mission Visa is a single-entry visa valid for 90 days. So, if you leave the country before the 90 days are up, your visa gets cancelled automatically. If you have a mission visa, you cannot transfer to a visit visa or apply for a new permit. You must first cancel the mission visa by exiting the country – and only then can you apply anew.

What do you do if you have received a UAE Visit Visa but are now not going to use it? To avoid issues with the immigration authorities, you should cancel it in 30 days. You will be required to pay up to AED 300 to cancel an unused visa. Alternatively you can choose to extend the visa for two months at a cost of AED 200. You should cancel an unused fee because you cannot apply for a new one when the old one has still not been used.

Here is a quick guide on what is allowed and what is prohibited with a UAE visa:

  • Engage in tourism activities, visit family and friends in any emirate and attend meetings and conferences.
  • Attend job interviews and prepare to apply for a Residence Visa when you join the UAE workforce.
  • Plan to start a new business in the UAE or buy a property. You can do the initial business and property gap research while on a visit visa.
  • Work or volunteer to work for a UAE company, whether paid or unpaid.
  • Open a bank account, or start a business, (you need a Residence Visa and Emirates ID to do that).
  • Beg in the streets and you are liable to be fined AED 5,000. And that’s just the start – you could also be jailed for up to three months. Those operating gangs of beggars, or recruiting people to work as beggars, face even stiffer penalties. They will be fined a minimum of AED 100,000 and imprisoned for not less than 6 months.
  • Illegal activities such as prostitution, child trafficking, smuggling and other criminal acts.

If you need to make your UAE Visit Visa application quickly, do so during the working week. In the UAE, immigration offices work four and a half days from Monday to Friday noon. You are therefore advised to apply during that timeframe so that we can process it with the authorities faster. You should first apply for the visit visa and, when approved, you can then book your flight to the UAE.

You are not allowed to work in the UAE without a valid UAE work visa that has been issued by the MOHRE. It is therefore illegal to work with a visit visa in the UAE.

You must have a hard copy of your UAE visa where entering the UAE, and show it to the screening counters in Airports or borders in the UAE. You should therefore print a copy of your UAE visa before leaving your country so that you can show it to the immigration officers.

Trips from UAE to Oman have seen a surge this week after the UAE implemented a new rule requiring tourist visa or visit visa holders to exit the country before they can renew their visa.

Travel agents said the new UAE tourist visa or visit visa renewal rule was implemented since Tuesday. Previously, visit visa or tourist visa holders can renew their visa without having the exit the country.

“You need to exit the UAE for a change of visa status, otherwise you will still have the same visa file number and pay fines of Dh50 per day if you overstay your visa,” a travel agent from Mardan Travels told Expatmedia.net .

The update in the rules has resulted in more trips from UAE to neighbouring countries as travelers sought to comply with the new rules under a budget-friendly visa change move.

“We are arranging trips to Oman and Kuwait, among the most popular places, for those who want to quickly exit the UAE to renew their visa,” a travel agent told Expatmedia.net .

Buses from UAE to Oman have reportedly been running at full capacity. Travelers are also hailing Omani taxis, which cost around Dh800 per trip and can be split by four passengers.

Visit visas or regular tourist visas allow a person to stay in the UAE for 60 days. The visas can be renewed for a further 60 days. ICA/Expat Media

Easier travel, visa processes to boost UAE-Iran tourism, says Ambassador Ameri

W hen Iranian ambassador Reza Ameri assumed office in June 2023, after the post had remained vacant for about seven years, he prioritised boosting tourism between the UAE and Iran. Ameri focused on enhancing people-to-people ties and economic cooperation between the two countries.

In an exclusive interview with , the diplomat said, "The firm political will among leaders of the two countries has strengthened relations across all fronts, including boosting tourism and cultural exchanges.

"We are very keen to promote tourism between the UAE and Iran. We are also interested in exchanging official and business delegations," he added, noting: "Plans are underway to enhance mutual understanding by familiarising Iranians with Emirati laws and customs, and vice versa."

The two countries recently held a joint consular committee to address lingering challenges related to visas, residency permits, and banking. The ambassador is confident the issues can be resolved through continued dialogue.

"Facilitating easier travel and commercial ties has also become a key priority as Iran emerges from years of sanctions," Ameri continued.

Ameri also took note of the cultural similarities between the two nations. “The Iranian-Emirati relationship is rooted in ancient history. The two countries are Muslim and neighbours, and what distinguishes the Iranian-Emirati relationship is the Iranian policy to be friendly and helpful to neighbours

"Iran will not set any limits to strengthening ties with the UAE across various fields. We are ready to strengthen this relationship, in all fields and at all levels, and we will find mechanisms to achieve this."

According to the Iranian Embassy, there are about 500,000 Iranians residing in the UAE, and more than 5,000 Iranian companies registered in the country,

“The Iranian expat community has become a vital bridge between the neighbouring states. The presence of this huge Iranian community makes our responsibility greater," said Ameri

Talking about future collaboration, Ameri spoke of the “vast untapped potentials in advanced industries such as nanotechnology, artificial intelligence (AI), and pharmaceuticals”. He believes these will open new avenues for the economic partnership between the UAE and Iran to flourish.

The ambassador also outlined several areas for future cooperation, including increasing the number of Iranians residing in the UAE to boost trade and economic activities, as well as encouraging the Iranian community in the UAE to provide more commercial and economic services.

The ambassador also discussed plans to hold joint consular and economic committees between the two countries, as well as signing new agreements and MOUs in advanced industries like nanotechnology, AI, and pharmaceuticals. Furthermore, the ambassador expressed a desire to collaborate with large Iranian companies interested in accessing the UAE market.

Ameri outlined Iran's desire to attract Emirati investment and participate in various commercial and economic opportunities. He said: “We say this to anyone who wants to participate, and to the Emiratis who may have any doubts about cooperating with Iran - we want to assure them that Iran has all the reasons for success for any commercial and economic operation, and there are wide areas for investment in Iran.

“We have a Foreign Investment Law that provides excellent benefits for a foreign investor. Iran is also ready to provide information, consultations, and any necessary facilities to prospective Emirati investors,” he added.

Moreover, Ameri offered to connect Emirati investors with "some reputable Iranian companies that can deal with them."

The Iranian ambassador also highlighted the potential of creating a corridor running from southern Iran to northern Iran, “which could serve as a strategic route for Emirati goods to travel from Iranian ports in the south to the interior, and onward to the GCC countries, Turkey, and Europe.”

"Iran is now considered a safe, easy and shorter corridor in terms of distance for goods to travel from southern Iran via Iran and be distributed in the GCC countries, Turkey and Europe,” he added.

Ameri was born in Tehran in 1961. He has more than 40 years of experience working in Iran's Foreign Ministry. He has served as ambassador in several Arab and African countries before being posted to the UAE, for his fourth ambassadorial role.

He arrived in the UAE on June 12, 2023 and began his work by meeting with various Emirati officials, including ministers, and rulers. He said: "The UAE is a very important country for any diplomat because there is an active movement in diplomacy. I never felt alienated because here – first and foremost – there are many Iranians, and there are also many commonalities between Iran and the Emirates."

UAE work visas to be processed in five days under expanded efficiency drive

Work bundle platform allows companies to submit paperwork for new staff in less than a week.

The UAE has expanded a government initiative to cut processing times for residency visas and work permits from up to 30 days to only five, authorities said on Tuesday.

The scheme – first introduced in Dubai in April – has been introduced across the country and aims to cut red tape and streamline services to allow companies to hire staff quicker and more easily.

The Work Bundle platform is part of a wider drive to tackle government bureaucracy and boost efficiency across the Emirates. It aims to simplify the processes involved in securing residency and work permits.

“The initial launch of the Work Bundle platform witnessed a strong response from companies,” said Khalil Khoori, undersecretary for Human Resources Affairs at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Phase 2 of Work Bundle has been launched and expanded to include all emirates via the unified digital platform https://t.co/lFjI3Gj8Ry , offering essential employment and residency services for private sector companies and individuals with a single, unified application form… pic.twitter.com/yPF1FpoK0d — وزارة الموارد البشرية والتوطين (@MOHRE_UAE) June 11, 2024

He said the move would benefit more than 600,000 businesses employing more than seven million staff.

“Procedures that took 20 to 30 days can now be completed within five days through the new platform," he said. “The platform allows companies to submit requests and upload fewer documents.

“Before this service, multiple documents had to be submitted to different departments. Now, all necessary information is accessible through a single platform.”

The Work Bundle project will bring together several bodies – including the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, Emirates Health Services, Abu Dhabi Department of Health and the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority – in an effort to foster more agile and effective government.

The new system will reduce the number of procedures from 15 steps requiring 16 documents to five steps requiring five documents.

The online platform – workinuae.ae – is expected to broaden its scope in the future, including a focus on easier hiring protocols for domestic staff.

Efficiency drive

In February, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, set out wide-reaching plans to make government services more efficient.

Sheikh Mohammed, also Vice President, said government departments would work to eliminate 2,000 unnecessary procedures within a year as part of the strategy.

Departments will now aim to halve the time taken to carry out services, under the Zero Government Bureaucracy programme, unveiled in November.

Bonuses of up to Dh1 million ($272,000) will be awarded to the employee or work team that performs best in raising standards.

“Our goal is to facilitate people's lives, provide people with the comfort and service they deserve in the UAE, and aim to be the best government in the world in providing services,” Sheikh Mohammed said at the time.

Boost for business

Maysam Al Mousily, manager of the Al Nukhbah Media and Communications company in Ajman, welcomed the introduction of a streamlined visa application service.

“In the past, the process of obtaining work visas and permits may be delayed for multiple reasons, including requests to submit the same documents several times to different bodies,” she said.

“This not only consumed valuable time but also added to the uncertainty in planning workforce needs.

“With this new platform, it will be a straightforward, centralised process that ensures all necessary documentation is submitted once and accessed by the relevant authorities seamlessly."

Green Visa applies to skilled worker, self-employed and investor

New UAE Green Visa to come into effect from October 3

Dubai: An updated visa system will come into effect in the UAE from Monday, October 3, 2022, allowing several options to visitors and residents to apply for visas without the need for a UAE-based sponsor.

The changes were announced by the Federal Authority for Identity Citizenship Customs and Ports Security (ICP) at a press conference on September 5, with details of new visa categories available to expatriates, as well as additional benefits for exisiting UAE residents.

The system was designed to offer greater flexibility and independence to the individual in the UAE labour market.

What is the updated visa system?

During the press conference by the ICP, Major General Sultan Yousef Al Nuaimi, Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs at the authority, explained that the new regulation includes an updated visa system that contributes to supporting the sustainable development process and the policy of economic diversification in the UAE, by attracting skilled workers, scientific competencies, experienced people, creative people and skilled specialists, which leads to raising the level of productivity and enhancing the competitiveness of the nation’s economy.

Al Nuaimi added: “The updated visa system is characterised by the multiplicity of types of residency and the addition of new ones to suit all categories of investors, entrepreneurs, talented scientists and specialists, early students, graduates, pioneers of humanitarian work, the first line of defense and skilled Labour in all fields, in addition to alleviating burdens and simplifying procedures, adding new benefits for residency holders and separating residency from the employer, which contributes to improving the quality of life and making the experience of living, working and investing in the UAE a pleasant and happy one.”

The updated visa system now includes the Green Visa, Jobseeker Visa, and additional benefits for Golden Visa holders .

What is Golden Residency in the UAE

Five-year Green Visa

Major General Khamis Al Kaabi, Director General of Support Services at the ICP, said: "The new executive regulation for the entry and residence of foreigners, which will come into force on October 3, includes an integrated system of residency with great advantages and facilities, most notably the Green visa, which is granted for a period of five years, subject to renewal, and includes greater advantages for family members of residents, including flexible grace periods of up to six months after expiry or cancellation of residence.”

The three categories of Green Visa are:

• the green residency for the skilled worker;

• the green residency for self-employment;

• the green residency for the investor or partner in a commercial activity without a guarantor and for a period of 5 years, subject to renewal, to replace the investor's previous residency of two years. With simpler terms and greater benefits, and allowing those holders of green residency to bring in first-degree relatives.

Jobseeker Visa

Another type of visa, which was announced as part of the updated visa system is a visa for job seekers. It allows you to come to the UAE without the need of a sponsor or host to explore work, investment and business opportunities. It is essentially an updated entry permit system.

Al Kaabi added: "A visa has been created to explore job opportunities and another to explore investment and business opportunities to attract investors without a guarantor or host inside the country, according to the conditions set forth in the new executive regulations."

At the press conference ICP also announced the new UAE passport for Emiratis. The new generation document is printed using laser and polycarbonate material, not paper, which makes it difficult to damage, tear or forge, and provides faster printing and greater security.

Major General Suhail Jumaa Al Khaili, Director General of Identity and Passports at the authority, pointed out that by issuing the new Emirati passport, the ICP will move towards a decentralised service. The new passport will now be printed in seven centres nationwide, an increase from the previous two centres, leading to a faster and easier service.

In response to recent travel updates for visitors from India to UAE, a few Indian airlines have issued a set of guidelines for passengers.

The advisory, issued by airlines to travel agents in India and in UAE, states that “travellers should carry necessary documents when travelling from Indian cities to the UAE.”

An Air India Express spokesperson confirmed to Khaleej Times that they issued an advisory urging passengers to carry valid passports, return tickets, accommodation details, and financial proof.

The advisory stated that travellers from India must ensure their passport is valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

“Visitors must have a confirmed return ticket, proof of confirmed hotel reservation, carry or have in their account Dh3,000 (approximately Rs68,000) for a 1-month visa and Dh5,000 for a longer stay, and additional documents of relatives or friends who are residents of the UAE,” the advisory stated.

Travel agents based in India and Dubai told Khaleej Times that they have received advisories from many airlines flying between the two countries.

“We have received circulars from SpiceJet, Air India, and other airlines who have issued such advisories so that travellers can be equipped with all the necessary documents and funds for ease in travel,” said Taha Siddique, owner of Siddique Travels.

According to a circular shared with the agents by SpiceJet, the airline warns the passengers to carry all the documents and that “failure to do so may lead to deportation.”

The advisory also stated that “passengers who do not have the required documents will be denied boarding on our flights at the departing airport and all related charges will be debited to the ticketing agency."

“We will have to bear the expenses of the return if our client is denied entry in the UAE airports. So we make sure that they have all the related documents before we book their tickets,” said Siddique.

According to travel agents, travellers are well aware of the situation and are carrying all the necessary documents.

“As many were not allowed to board the flights from India, or were sent back from the UAE airport, travellers are not taking any chance now and they are well prepared in advance,” said Deepak Kaushik, operations manager at ToursOnBoard.

Bharath Aidasani, managing partner at Pluto Travels, said if denied entry to UAE, “it becomes the airline's responsibility to take the traveller back to his home country, and this is the reason that they are conducting rigorous checks before issuing a boarding pass."

“Travellers at the check-in counters have their documents checked by airline executives. Upon failure to produce them, travellers may be sent back or asked to obtain the documents before boarding the flight,” said Firoz Maliyakkal, founder and CEO of Tahira Tours and Travels.
