  1. GFCI's tripping on motor loads

The GFCI holds the light load but when I plug in the pond pump it trips the gfci. Also when I plug in the smoker it trips the gfci. Smoker is new and does not trip a breaker when plugged into regular receptacle. The same is true for the pond. Is there something about the fact that both are motor loads that tripps the gfci protection?

  2. electrical

The downstream GFCI will cause the upstream GFCI to trip, because it actually has a connection between GND and neutral. Note that the breaker for the outlet may be a GFCI type breaker, so even if the outlet appears normal, it may be a GFCI breaker. Take a look at it in the breaker box. - mkeith. Aug 1, 2017 at 3:28.

  4. What is causing a motor to trip my GCFI on every OTHER start?

It has a standard capacitor-start induction motor. Every OTHER time I start the motor, it causes a ground fault, like clockwork (NB: not an arc fault.) I will turn it on, it trips, I reset the breaker, turn it on again, it runs, turn it off and on again, it trips, ad infinitum. It's an old motor, and the wiring is a recent installation.

  5. What Causes GFCI Outlets to Keep Tripping?

GFCI uses and maintenance. GFCIs are designed to prevent bodily harm from electrical faults that could cause electricity to flow through you to ground. When a GFCI breaker trips, it It quickly disconnects the current flowing through an unintended ground path even if the amount of current is too small to trip a typical circuit breaker.

  6. Motor tripping GFCI

The circuit breaker won't help you, it will only trip when the wire heats up beyond the amp rating. The GFCI is sensitive to a sudden surge of power which the motor provides. As far as the GFCI knows you are standing in water and grabbed a hot wire and suddenly there is current going to ground.

  7. Motor tripping GFCI

Are there other devices on the same circuit that require GFCI protection? If the connection is outdoors or near a wet location your local electrical code likely requires a GFCI breaker. I would recommend first finding and correcting the cause of the breaker tripping instead of just replacing the GFCI. The breaker tripped for a reason. \$\endgroup\$

  8. Motor control circuit tripping GFCI receptacle

As a GFCI of last resort. Try the Siemens 2-pole GFCI breaker. It has never tripped on my two refrigerators which kept tripping when they were put on the GFCI receptacles (sometimes plugging in cellphone charger can also trip it). I thought something wrong the fridge. I nearly bought an expensive clamp meter just to trace the leakage.

  9. Troubleshooting Guide: What to Do When Your GFCI Keeps Tripping

Resetting the GFCI. When the GFCI trips, the first step is to reset it. Locate the GFCI outlet or breaker and press the reset button. If it clicks and stays in place, the issue may have been a temporary fault. However, if it immediately trips again, proceed with the following steps:

  10. Understanding GFCI Nuisances

Understanding GFCI Nuisances. January 24, 2019. Technical Expertise. Article. Since the expansion of the 2017 National Electrical Code (NEC) ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) requirements to include single-phase receptacles up to 50A and three-phase receptacles up to 100A, we've seen a trend of increased GFCI nuisance tripping.
