Adam Lambert is a singer, songwriter and actor hailing from Indianapolis, Indiana, US who was born on the 29th of January 1982. His career truly began after coming second in the 2009 season of American Idol, since then he’s released two hit solo albums and is currently fronting Queen.

Adam Lambert could serve as a justification for every single music reality show we’ve had to endure for the past decade and a half or so. He’s a man talented enough to be a success any way he so pleased, he’s just chose to make it happen through the medium of American Idol, and fair play to him. Especially when being on that show means that he can be the first ever openly gay solo artist to top the Billboard 200, if that’s not an undeniable good move and sign of genuine cultural progress, I don’t know what is.

Lambert was born in Indianapolis, however his family moved to San Diego, California soon after he was born. He was a musical child from the get go, getting involved with local theatre productions and performing with the Metropolitan Educational Theatre network. His teenage years were spent pretty much entirely around theatres and performing arts companies, even during his high school years he took part in choirs and the jazz band among many others. By 19 he had his first professional performing job as a cruise ship singer and by 21, he was cast in a European tour of the hit rock musical Hair.

From 2001 until 2008 Lambert cut his teeth performing any which way he could. That period of time saw him fronting bands and working as a session singer while still performing on stage any way that he could. He saw some success at it as well, in 2004 he was performing opposite Val Kilmer in a production of The Ten Commandments: The Musical, and he was understudying in major productions like one for Wicked in 2005. However come 2009 he would become something very special indeed.

While spending a week at the Burning Man festival in Black Rock Desert, Nevada, Lambert had what he described as “a psychedelic experience” where he realized that he had the power to do whatever he wanted with his life, and with that freedom in mind, he auditioned for American Idol. Lambert was an utter sensation on the show, captivating everyone with every single performance that he made and was pretty much robbed of the top spot by some vanishing act called Kris Allen. However, the general consensus was that Lambert was going to be an enormous deal outside of Idol, and that was exactly what happened.

Since then, Lambert has continued to be a sensation in everything he’s done. His two solo albums headed straight into the top three and his second album was the first ever number one album on the Billboard 200 by an openly gay man. The world of rock has also fallen to Lambert’s charms as well, with his shows fronting Queen selling out and getting rave reviews the world over. A common complaint with artists who find fame through a talent show is that they haven’t truly “earned” their success like other artists have. One look at Lambert’s back story will tell you that this is far from true, and he’s only just reached his prime. We’re going to be seeing a lot more of him for a long time, and any pop fan around should be very, very glad of that fact. Highly recommended.

Live reviews

Adam Lambert is a brilliant singer in his own right. He is "entertainment plus". I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the concert fri night. His voice is out of this world. "I can't speak highly enough"of him. He kept everybody entertained all night. He's a great showman and the perfect choice for Queens frontman. I saw Adam at the palais theatre also, and he was fantastic. I will always go too see him when he's in Melbourne. I'm hoping that one day, I will be able too meet him in person and have a chat and a picture taken with him. Adam has a terrific sense of humour and made people laugh with his antics. He is a true showman all the way. He interacted with the crowd extremely well. He works so hard, and deserves all that is good in this world. He is tops in my book. Adam covered the songs of Queen with ease. I would have liked too have heard a few more of his songs. He's a star, in every sense of the word. He's worth every penny, too go and see, and witness this great entertainer in action. He sounds just as good live, as he does on CDs. I came away from the concert with such a buzz. It was great too hear Brian say, " that they wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Adam". I'm looking forward too seeing some more concerts of Adams in the future. The concert was such fun. I enjoyed singing along with Adam and Queen. I wasn't disappointed with any aspect of the show. Thanks for a really great night Adam you are amazing. Loved your outfits. I hope Adam and Queen enjoyed doing the show just as much as I loved watching it.

Thanks for a great night, Trisha Mac

Okay, this was my first concert, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I really think that that is irrelevant. THIS SHOW COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER! This light show, the videos, the presentation, were all perfection. The band members were amazing and gave their all; phenomenal work! And then there was Adam Lambert...I didn't know it was possible for a human to hit notes like that! I felt an electrical thrill run through me every time he hit a falsetto, and then he'd pull it down to a soft tender note, and I would shiver all the way down to my toes from the emotion he put into it. No one could stop themselves from dancing and singing along. It was infectious. The atmosphere that was created was ethereal, raw, powerful, and completely out of this world. If you have concerts to this show, you will have the time of your life without a doubt! Savour every moment! I would go again in a heartbeat.

In a word - spectacular!!

Lambert can flat out sing - an exceptional talent with an on stage presence that has matured. And it's clear that he's focused on ensuring people know he's about love and tolerance.

Just like at CMT earlier this week where he sang Girl Crush to an awe struck crowd in Nashville, Lambert simply crushed it in SD on Dec 4 playing a 45 minute set to his home town crowd.

New hit Ghost Town was his opening song and then onto Original High and Evil in the Night and the newly promoted Another Lonely Night. Adam also performed a few of his older hits to the delight of the nearly 3,000 attendees. The song quality of Adam's performance was the best of the night following Andy Grammer, Echosmith and Elle King who all performed admirably. It was Lambert, however, that folks came to see and his did not disappoint.

Im lucky, it wasnt my first Adam Lambert concert! And it wont he my last! He was simply wonderful - his voice & stage presence were superb & of course he was as handsome as ever.

I saw Queen & Freddie in 1977, & whilst Brian, Roger & the team were also unforgetable on Saturday night, with Brians guitar expertise out of this world; but as usual Adam stole the show.

Ive been a huge fan of his since 2009 when he sang Mad World on Idol on my Birthday that year - hes well schooled & such a gentleman with a crazy sense of humour - so I find it hard not to watch him sing etc. In the past 18nths Ive cut down on TV & watch Adam on youtube many nights each week. Hes truly an addiction.

Im a published writer & My greatest dream is to meet this wonderful man sometime soon. Cheers. Robina

This guy "Adam" is an absolute master.

He commands his voice so well, highs, lows, and on and on and on, I have now seen him front Queen 3 times across Australia. He is not here to replace Freddie (no-one can). but to bring us the great Queen music from when Freddie was alive, for us all to celebrate in today's times. Adam has the charm, cheekiness & charisma that I think Freddie would have approved of, Brain & Roger do ! obviously, after 8 years he is still touring with them.

I would love to see Adam (only) live, but I believe his passion will still shine through, it is hard to believe he is now 38yo. From watching him on Idol to watching him on stage just the other night, he is going to be a legend of our time.

Thank you Adam

So to sum up: AMAZING CONCERT,AMAZING ARTIST,AMAZING ATMOSPHERE, BEST CONCERT EVER. PLS GET HIM BACK TO US VERY SOON.

To see Adam Lambert perform at Fall Fest from Fresh 102.7 radio station was a delight. I didn't really care about other artists playing that night. And they were little boring. But when Adam came out, the theater came alive. The choice of songs was great. Most from his newest album (The ogirinal High) and his biggest hit "What do you want from me". And his voice....The best. He interacted with the audience (like always), never disappointing his fans. I just wish he played more songs. I understand that there is a limit to how many songs artists can sing where you have several of them performing, but I can't get enough. I hope he is going to tour by himself.

queen + adam lambert was a great show. adam tries hard to act with the spirit of freגdie and still be unique so far it works.

the other band members also gave great and unique improv for a change.

the only downside perfomance wise, it was way too short, i would love new materials and to see classics like bicycle race, let me entertain you and i'm in love with my car live.

another con, relates to the production in israel. don't know if it gets to them, but it was very poor. bad venue, strict finishing hour, bad acoustics, too crowded for the venue both by parking which wasn't managed and viewpoints of the stage.

The Queen concert was brilliant in every way & I hope to see -at least- another one in London in July. The 2nd of July is already planned so I hope there is another after that? I also hope to see one of Adams own concerts sometime this year.

Adam is the greatest Singer & Showman on this planet; & being so handsome makes him so much easier to enjoy. Of course, the boys from Queen having so much talent makes them also easy to listen to, however Adam outshines everyone.

Ive been an Adam fan for 9years now & I wont change.

Songkick - please keep me informed of all of Adams performances.

Cheers. Robina

What a show! From the moment he strode out with the confidence of a young George Michael, to the closing number, Adam Lambert was phenomenal. He has grown into the role of Queen front man with all the glory and flare of Freddy, while retaining his own sense of style and humour. His vocals were perfection as always, soaring notes that carried the crowd to places that touched their souls. Great moments when he was dancing like no one was watching. You could not help but be carried by his joy of being on stage doing what he loves. A great performer, a beautiful soul, a wonderful experience.

No, the Rhapsody Tour Is Not Queen + Adam Lambert’s Last: ‘You Can Always Do One More Time’

Queen and Adam Lambert

Since joining forces in 2011, Queen + Adam Lambert have quickly become one of the most successful touring acts in the world — and now, they’re ready to prove why.

Queen Release Stirring Lost Track Featuring Freddie Mercury Vocals, ‘Face It Alone’

Trending on billboard.

Billboard caught up with May, Lambert and Roger Taylor ahead of their official announcement, where the trio talked about what fans can expect from the new show, their favorite songs to perform live, and why “this is not a farewell tour,” according to May.

This is the first time in four years that the three of you will be touring the U.S. together, following your European tour last year — how are you feeling ahead of hitting the road this fall?

Brian May:  It’s incredible, yeah. I think we all learned in COVID how much we really missed this. It was really tough for everybody. We already did our big outing in Europe, but with a lot of restrictions on that; we had a very strict protocol just to get through, because people were going down like flies. But we managed to get through that whole tour without losing a date, and it was all sold-out, packed, fantastic and better than ever, I think. So we thought, “Well, we just have to get back to the states.”

Outside of those restrictions, were there any significant learning curves you had to navigate in a post-COVID touring environment last year?

May:  Oh, yeah.

Taylor:  We were changing it and improving it as we went, and we are now going through all of those improvements again when it comes to this American leg.

I’ve noticed that the phrase “one more time” has been thrown around quite a bit when it comes to this tour — are you planning on this being Queen + Adam Lambert’s final outing?

May:  Let me be clear, this is not a farewell tour. You can always do one more time … and then one more time … and then another time after that!

Adam Lambert:  [laughs] Yeah, why limit yourself, guys?

Taylor:  It’s just a simple, five year farewell tour, right?

Queen Guitarist Brian May Knighted by King Charles at Buckingham Palace

When it comes to the “improvements” you’ve made to the show, what can fans expect to see that’s new with this leg of The Rhapsody Tour?

May:  Well, we’re not gonna tell you  that  much, we don’t want to spoil it. [laughs] But the nice things is that the material is what ultimately gives the ideas, and we’re able to develop those ideas as we go along. We get to throw more and more stuff in, production-wise.

Lambert:  I will say, the technology has come so far, even in the 10 years that we’ve worked together. It gives us so much freedom when it comes to what we want to create, what environment we want to put around a song. We have all of these toys that we get to play with, which we all get a big kick out of. We have an amazing creative team that work with us — I mean, we add something in a couple of days if we have a cool idea. Once the show kicks off, the show is never locked. It’s never the same show every night, we have the ability to throw a new song in, move the set around, change the visuals. There’s so much freedom.

Lambert:  I’d say a couple of glasses of wine and a chat, yeah?

May:  [laughs] I mean, we also always do a soundcheck. The soundcheck is the key thing for us, I think. Every time we go into a new city and set things up, we’ll go into a soundcheck for two or three hours sometimes. When we’re doing that, we’ll try new stuff out, and our team is so flexible with us, that we’ll just throw out, “Can you give us a certain lighting effect, can you do stuff on the screens?” And they’ll build it on the spot for us. We don’t work on backing tracks or anything, which means we can kind of do anything we want. And we’re really fortunate to have a technical team that can handle that — a lot of this stuff is programmed to work at pretty exact intervals, and ours is all human touch, which gives it that live feel.

Lambert:  Also, when we add a song sort of impromptu, we don’t like to over-rehearse it. We play it in that soundcheck and maybe one more soundcheck, and then we throw it in. It makes it really fun, like it’s a thrill-seeking activity, where we just go for it and see what happens.

Brian, I wanted to congratulate you on your recent knighting from King Charles III — what was that experience like for you?

And Adam, congratulations on your  High Drama  covers album — were there any big covers you wanted to include that didn’t quite make the cut?

Lambert:  There were definitely a couple others I was considering, but it was a very thought-out project, so we weren’t wasting a lot of time or energy in the studio. We did it so quick, probably recorded those over about two months. I’m so happy with it, even though I did not write those songs, it felt like I was getting creative in the studio to find new ways to make them sound. That was such a cool challenge for me.

Queen has one of the most prolific songbooks in modern rock music. Obviously there are the core set of hits that you’re gonna play almost no matter what — do you have any favorites in particular to perform that maybe aren’t as monolithic?

May:  You know, there’s some stuff that we know would be very difficult — Roger mentioned “The Millionaire Waltz” once.

Taylor:  [laughs] Oh yeah, I don’t know if we could pull that off.

May:  But a lot of the stuff we do anyways is fairly complex — the key is you don’t play the record. We really play how we feel on the stage. It’s funny, some people would call that a bluff, but there’s a lot of multi-track guitar harmonies in a lot of our songs, and I don’t do that onstage and I don’t use trickery to achieve it. I play what I’m feeling, and people hear that and get a purely live version of the song. No extra frills, because to me, recording has always been different than performing live.

Taylor:  Sometimes, the song gains a whole new dimension of excitement from that. But the live version will not be exactly the same as the record — that’s not what we’re about.

Lambert:  As far as the setlist goes, I think we’re all aware of what the fan favorites are. But the most important thing here is that, sure, we need to have fun, but the audience is buying a ticket to see the show. This is about their evening and giving them a show that feels fresh. We are keenly aware of what the favorites are and we try to include the big hits every night — they have a  lot  of hits, so it’s a lot to choose from. But it’s a two-plus hour show, so we’ve got plenty of time to get those big hits.

Tickets for The Rhapsody Tour officially go on sale Friday, March 31 at 10 a.m. local time on LiveNation.com .

Queen Adam Lambert

“These are kind of new glory days for us,” said Queen guitarist and founding member Brian May, who was literally knighted by King Charles III earlier this month. “It’s nice to think that hopefully there will be the demand for that.”

But the guitarist, along with founding drummer Roger Taylor and singer Adam Lambert , was on the other side of the Atlantic in Thursday, in New York to announce the group’s 14-show North American leg of its “Rhapsody” tour — its first since 2019 — which runs from Oct. 4 through Nov. 11.

Survey data: do consumers want gen ai in entertainment content, sony pictures classics, filmnation execs among dozens of industry figures who showed off soccer skills at tribeca festival's charity tournament, popular on variety.

Shows on the overseas “Rhapsody” tour dates featured around 25 songs plus four encore numbers, and included the hits “Killer Queen,” “Fat Bottomed Girls, “Another One Bites the Dust, “We Will Rock You / We Are the Champions” and the song with more than 2 billion Spotify streams that lent its title to a film and this tour, “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Queen promises some deeper cuts on this jaunt. Lambert says, “I’m not sure exactly what we’ll pull out for this one. Look, I would be happy just to show up and do what I was told if that was how it was. But I’ve been really fortunate to work with these two gentlemen who are very collaborative, and we get to all throw ideas in and work things out. I’m really grateful for that it makes me even more invested in it.

It’s been a decade since the group’s first live American concert, though the first time they performed was in 2009 when May and Taylor were guests on the eighth season of “Idol.” May remembers the first actual American concert in Las Vegas in 2013 for the iHeart Music Festival: “It felt so good both internally and from the [crowd] reaction that we thought, ‘My God, this is something we shouldn’t be letting go.’ I think we foresaw some kind of future, didn’t we? But not quite as big as it actually happened. It’s been colossal.”

Lambert agreed, “I don’t think I would have imagined that it would have been the gift that keeps on giving.”

The current Rhapsody tour features Queen + Adam Lambert’s regular band members, longtime keyboard player and musical director Spike Edney, bass guitarist Neil Fairclough and percussionist Tyler Warren. Founding bassist John Deacon left the band and effectively retired from music following Freddie Mercury’s 1991 death, and chose not to be present at Queen’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Despite a 30-year-plus age difference between Lambert, 41, and May, 75 and Taylor, 73, the three have an easy camaraderie that’s evident both onstage and off. Lambert was only three when Queen’s iconic 1985 Live Aid performance rocked the world, but it was something he got to recreate at the Fire Fight fundraiser concert in Sydney, Australia in February 2020, a month before Covid shut down the world.

As a fan growing up, Lambert was familiar with Queen’s Live Aid footage. “But when it came time to first join the band on stage, I was like, ‘I have to know my stuff’ so I watched as much as I could. Besides Live Aid, one of my favorite things was Montreal concert where Freddie was running around in a pair of itty bitty white shorts and no shoes,” Lambert says. “I just I remember seeing that and going ‘This guy’s amazing.’ He was so free and ridiculous and just full of joy and I’ve been so inspired by that spirit. I try to approach shows with that same humor…”

“And shorts?” Taylor quipped.

“Not the shorts for me — Freddie had much better legs,” Lambert concluded.

A general on sale date for the Queen + Adam Lambert  U.S. tour is March 31, and in light of exorbitant ticket prices and “dynamic pricing,” the band stated in a release that “In an effort to help minimize resale and keep ticket prices at face value for fans, the band are collaborating with the venues’ ticketing partners to restrict the ability to transfer tickets for the Rhapsody tour so that they may only be transferred between fans at the original price.”

Queen + Adam Lambert have today announced further European shows are being added to the band’s twice-postponed ‘Rhapsody’ UK & Europe tour, now set to take place next year.

Extending the mainland Europe leg of its highly anticipated tour, the band will also play newly set shows in Italy, Sweden, Norway, and winding the tour up with a new final show in Finland on 24 July 2022. In all, Queen + Adam Lambert will now perform 34 shows across their Rhapsody UK & Europe 2022 tour.

Queen + Adam Lambert’s 2022 “Rhapsody” concerts will be the band’s first European dates since the worldwide box office sensation that was the Bohemian Rhapsody film.

‘One Hand Clapping’: Paul McCartney and Wings’ Lost Classic

The all-new “Rhapsody” show, already hailed as “a marvel of technical advances,” originally kicked off the new year of 2020 with 17 giant arena and stadium shows across South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand playing to audiences as large as 60,000 in one night.

Twice postponed due to the arrival of the COVID pandemic , the mega-show is now scheduled to be performed in the UK and Europe in late spring, 2022 as Queen original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor team up once more with long-time front man Adam Lambert on lead vocals to perform shows from mid May to late July. “It’s loud, it’s fun, and it’s unforgettable” is how the new show was greeted on its initial arrival.

The 2022 European tour will launch in Belfast, UK, on 28 May, with its final stop in Helsinki, Finland on 24 July.

Over the “Rhapsody” tour 2022, European audiences will at last have the chance to see the epic new show which drew awe and acclaim on its initial outing in North American in 2019, and became Rock’s hottest ticket of the year in the US. Ever the masters of extravagant performance and sumptuous visuals, Queen + Adam Lambert’s newest production is again the work of Stufish Entertainment Architects’ set designer Ric Lipson and lighting designer Rob Sinclair who both have a long-term association with Queen including the band’s 2017-2018 eye-popping “News Of The World” inspired touring show.

Lipson describes the two-and-a-half-hour production as: “A new chapter in the history of the band. Once again for them expanding the parameters of what a live music experience can be, this new show delivers the band’s most spectacular yet, an innovative and interactive celebration of the continued power of Queen’s music.”

On originally announcing the band’s UK and Europe fans, Queen’s Roger Taylor stated: “We’re back and we’re hot.”

An enthused Brian May said: “This is a fearsome new production taking the Queen legacy to a new place. I’m well proud.”

Adam Lambert joined in saying: “I can’t wait to get back to Europe, we had a blast on our last tour, and I am so excited to bring this new show over there!”

Since Adam Lambert first shared the stage with Queen for the 2009 American Idol final, his dynamic performances have reinvigorated the band and delighted fans worldwide. Starting as they meant to go on, their first full show together in June 2012 thrilled a crowd of half a million strong in the Ukraine capital city of Kiev. Since then, May and Taylor’s musical fireworks have been matched by Lambert’s vocal prowess and stage presence, making for an explosive combination. Over 200 gigs later, the partnership has remained a commercial and critical triumph, playing to enraptured full houses in every corner of the world.

To date Queen + Adam Lambert have played 218 shows to an audience of close on four million spectators.

Queen + Adam Lambert’s newly-announced UK & Europe ‘Rhapsody’ Tour dates are as follows:

UK: Belfast, The SSE Arena, Saturday 28 May, 2022 Italy: Bologna, Unipol Arena, Sunday 10 July, 2022 Sweden: Stockholm, Avicii Arena, Wednesday 20 July, 2022 Norway: Oslo, Telenor Arena, Thursday 21 July, 2022 Finland: Helsinki, Hartwall Arena, Sunday 24 July, 2022.

About the Tour

While the tour is a continuation of Queen + Adam Lambert’s The Rhapsody Tour in 2019, the band promises their upcoming tour will include “expanded and updated” shows, Billboard reports . “Our last tour featured our most ambitious production ever,” guitar legend Brian May said. “So, we decided to rip it apart and get even more ambitious.”

Additionally, the band vows that this tour will not be their last. “Let me be clear, this is not a farewell tour,” May told Billboard. “You can always do one more time … and then one more time … and then another time after that!”

The tour news follows the October 2022 release of the never-before-heard Freddie Mercury track “Face It Alone,” originally recorded for Queen’s album The Miracle (1989).

Lambert is now at work on his first musical. It will follow a concept album, featuring songs from the musical, targeted for a late 2023 or early 2024 release.

In turn, the musical and album have been preceded by last Friday’s release of his version of “Mad About the Boy,” which is being used as the theme song for the 2023 film documentary “Mad About The Boy — The Noël Coward Story.”

“I’m very excited,” said Lambert, who brings his Halloween-themed “The Witch Hunt” concert tour to San Diego’s Balboa Theatre Oct. 23. He cites Coward — best known for writing such enduring theater classics as “Blithe Spirit” and “Private Lives” — as a longtime favorite.

” ‘Mad About the Boy’ is an old standard, a sort of a torch song, that Noël wrote (in 1932) about a man but couldn’t sing because it was too taboo at the time,” Lambert noted during a phone interview last week from London.

“Multiple female vocalists have covered it. But for this bio-documentary, they wanted to remake the song and thought it would be cool to have a guy do it. I worked with (producers) Amanda Ghost and Johnny Coffer on my version.”

Coward died in 1973. His aesthetic sensibilities as a gay man and multifaceted artist resonate strongly with Lambert, who was just 9 when he made his 1991 stage debut at San Diego’s Lyceum Theater in a Metropolitan Educational Theater production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

Pandemic-fueled musical

Lambert, who grew up in Rancho Peñasquitos, spent the next decade here performing in such musicals as “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Grease” before moving to Los Angeles. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated his efforts on what will be his first musical.

“My album ‘Velvet’ was released two weeks before everything got shutdown and canceled,” Lambert said.

“Once I got over that, I wanted to be creative and do something. I had pitched this idea for a musical before the pandemic started, based on a real story about a real guy, and I started doing Zoom songwriting sessions for it during the pandemic.

“Some musicals have one composer and one lyricist. But because of my experience in the music world and the theater world, we’ve chosen to work with a group of composers, lyricists and producers, almost approaching it like a pop album.

“I’ve met a lot of great collaborators, and I’m in every session, guiding it. We’re trucking along, but it’s a slower process than putting together a pop album. I have the songs written and now we’re figuring out what the script might look like.”

Is the subject of Lambert’s musical still alive?

“It is a living person. And I apologize for not being able to give you the full pitch,” replied the singer, who has long cited the late David Bowie as a major inspiration.

“It’s a new type of project for me. It’s writing music about somebody else, how they felt and about what they were going through. Writing songs from that perspective is really cool. And I have some parallels in my life and can relate to that person.”

Lambert has to keep details about his debut musical close to his vest until it is officially announced. But he disclosed one key detail that strongly suggests what his musical might sound like, stylistically speaking.

“It’s a period piece set and in the 1970s, which is my favorite decade,” he said.

“I love the music from the ’70s. There’s something about all those genres from that decade, so much great music that was golden. You had all the classic and progressive rock, and funk and soul, and disco, which was amazing.”

His upcoming musical is a full-circle moment for Lambert, who was an unabashed theater kid growing up in San Diego before he turned pro.

At 22, he spent six months in Germany performing in a bilingual production of “Hair.” This was followed by his being an ensemble member in the first U.S. national tour of “Wicked.”

“Absolutely full circle,” he said. “And it’s one of the things I’m so excited about. Because I do kind of miss that world. And to be able to come back into it with your own creation feels like the best of both worlds. When I was in theater before, I was a performer doing other people’s works. To be able to do my own musical now is a dream come true.”

We will rock you!

Lambert, 40, spent a good chunk of this summer touring with Queen. He joined the legendary English rock band in 2012. That was three years after he first performed Queen’s 1977 hit, “We Are The Champions,” on “American Idol” with the band’s two key surviving co-founding members, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor.

“They are both great, and it feels like a family at this point,” Lambert said of May, 75, and Taylor, 73.

“There’s a lot of paternal energy with them — and a lot of humor. I really enjoy being a part of them and reveling in how they get to be forever young when they are on stage. I love being able to be part of that experience in a band that is so legendary and honoring (deceased Queen singer) Freddie (Mercury) every night.

“I’ve learned a lot from Brian and Roger, just from example. They conduct themselves in a real classy way and have a ton of experience being on the road. They enjoy themselves. We dine together and laugh together. It’s amazing.”

Lambert is in a unique position with his dual careers. As the lead singer in Queen, he performs in stadiums and arenas. As a solo artist, he performs in intimate theaters.

“I’m very fortunate getting to do both,” he agreed. “The fact I’ve been able to do them, side by side, over the past 10 years is incredible. It’s worked out very well, and it’s really well-balanced between the two. I want to keep doing both as long as possible.”

The colorful stage outfits Lambert wears for his performances with Queen have become one of his trademarks. This sartorial flair can be traced back to Lambert’s days as a child actor in musicals in San Diego.

“Early on as a kid, I enjoyed playing dress-up. A lot of kids do, and it just stuck with me,” he said. “Then I discovered theater, which was basically dressing up all the time, and it sort of snowballed into my passion.”

The Halloween theme of Lambert’s current “The Witch Hunt” tour harks back to Lambert’s youth in San Diego. He fondly recalls getting decked out to go trick-or-treating, with help from his mother, Leila.

“My mom showed me a picture of me as a dragon when I was 5,” he recalled. “She painted my face with fire coming out of my mouth. and I had a cape. Then I was a vampire. I have a history of dressing up like a vampire. As I got more into stage makeup as I got older, I got more excited. That’s when my imagination started firing.”

“I celebrate Halloween when I’m on tour and even when I’m not on tour,” he replied. “I love the holiday, and it’s exciting to put together a (concert tour) especially for Halloween.”

Shock-rock pioneer Alice Cooper has stated that each of his concerts, year-round, qualifies as a Halloween show.

Lambert chuckled appreciatively.

“I don’t allow the time of year to dictate how crazy I dress,” he said. “On Queen tours, I’m always trying to outdo my last look. Things are sparkling and fringe is flying! It’s fun. I look for opportunities to express myself — and I like to express myself!”

Lambert grew more introspective when he was asked to reflect on his artistic evolution between the release of his 2015 album, “The Original High,” and now.

“I think that, then, I wanted to prove I have earned a spot in the music industry,” he said. “Credibility was very important to me, and it still is. But I feel like I’ve done that now and I want to have fun!

“I had fun before that, too. But now, more than ever, I realize exactly who I am, personally and professionally. I know what I can do that others can’t — and what I should be trying to do. It’s nice to take the guesswork out. I feel settled and comfortable in my skin. And having and sharing that newfound discovery with an audience feels really good.”
