How to fix “error licensing this video” on YouTube TV

YouTube is a great entertainment platform with thousands of videos to choose from. However, sometimes, you might find your experience interfered with by annoying error messages.

One common error that you can encounter is the YouTube TV licensing error that makes some videos unplayable.

YouTube TV

Usually, the YouTube video licensing error affects Google Chrome, Chromebook, or Chromecast media player users. However, it can also appear on the YouTube TV app on devices such as Roku, Apple TV, gaming consoles, and even mobile devices.

Luckily, you can easily fix the issue by updating your browser (Google Chrome and Chrome book users) or updating the YouTube TV app.

Below, we take a detailed look at what causes the error and a step-to-step guide on how to resolve it. We will also look at other solutions that you can try.

What causes the YouTube TV licensing error?

The YouTube video licensing error can be caused by several issues including:

  • Outdated browser
  • Outdated YouTube app
  • Outdated operating software (for computer and Chromebook users)
  • Corrupted Google Account information
  • Corrupted YouTube app data
  • A bug or glitch on your router or issues with an internet connection

How to fix YouTube TV licensing error?

Here’s how to troubleshoot the error:

1. Update your Google Chrome browser

An outdated browser (especially Google Chrome) is one of the main causes of YouTube playback errors . Therefore, before doing anything else, you should first make sure that your browser is up-to-date.

To update Google Chrome:

  • Launch the browser on your computer and click on the three-dots menu
  • On the drop-down menu list, go to Help > About Google Chrome
  • A pop-up tab will open up showing you the current version of your browser. If it is not up to date, there will be an “Update” button. Click on it to update.

After updating the browser, restart it then try playing your YouTube videos again.

2. Update the YouTube app

An out-of-date app is another cause of YouTube playback errors. Therefore, if you are receiving an error message when attempting to play videos, you should check whether your app is up-to-date.

Updating your app will largely depend on your streaming device. If using a mobile phone, simply go to the app store (Google Play Store or Apple App store), find your YouTube app, and select update.

If using another device, for example, Roku, you will need to go to system settings. From here, select System option > System update . Any pending updates, including those of the YouTube TV app, will be installed.

3. Sign out then sign in again into your YouTube account

YouTube license error

Corrupted account data could be another reason behind the YouTube TV licensing error. The corrupted data is usually in stored cookies in the cache or stored account information.

Alternatively, there could be a bug that’s causing your account to experience problems. One of the best ways to do this is to log out of your account and then log in again.

By signing out then signing in again, you will refresh your session and get rid of temporary files, which could help fix several issues.

Aside from this, you can also try clearing cache and account data on your app/browser to get rid of any more corrupted files.

4. Install a fresh and up-to-date version of the YouTube app

Are you still having issues watching videos on your YouTube app? It might be too corrupted and with no fixable solutions. In this case, removing the app and installing a fresh one is the best solution.

If you are using a smartphone, simply go to the app menu and long-tap on the YouTube app.

From here, you can uninstall or delete it. Then, go to the Google Play Store / Apple App store and search for the app, after which you can download and install it.

If using another device such as Roku or smart TV, you can uninstall the app by going to the channels or apps section.

Select the YouTube and under the menu options available choose to remove or uninstall. Once removed, go to the channel store, search for the app, and install a fresh version.

5. Restart your router

While not usually the case, a problem with your internet router could also be causing YouTube video playback issues.

The router could have bugs, corrupted files, or the speed could be problematic. Restarting it could thus fix these issues, thus solving any playback issues you are experiencing.

To restart your router, simply unplug its power cord from the outlet and let it sit for about a minute or so. Then, plug back the router and power it on.

Alternatively, you can use the hard reset button found at most router’s back panels.

Wrapping up

YouTube TV video licensing error is a common error you might encounter, but nonetheless very frustrating. However, it can be easily fixed with the solutions above.

After reading this article, you will no longer have to go for hours without your favorite entertainment. Simply try them out and have your YouTube app or account functioning properly again.

2: After visiting this website, enter youtube.com in the empty box, and press the Return button.

If it shows It’s just you. youtube.com is up. message on your screen, continue reading try other solutions listed below.

1: Press Command+Space , type terminal , hit the Return button to open the Terminal app.

2: Enter the following command and press the Return button.

check ping status on mac terminal

Alternatively, you can try opening a website other than YouTube to check if your internet connection is okay or not. Like many other people, you can enter google.com in the address bar and hit the Return button. If it opens the Google homepage, your internet connection is working fine.

Note: Apart from checking your internet connection, it is also suggested to check the speed . If you do not have a good bandwidth, you might find the same issue while playing a YouTube video.

3. Restart Mac

Restarting a device solves countless minor issues. If Safari has some issue, a simple restart might be able to fix it within moments. Try it.

4. Try Different Browser

To find out if it is a browser-specific problem or not, you should try playing YouTube videos on a different browser. Almost everyone has at least two browsers on his/her Mac. If not, download one and check. You can always uninstall it later if you don’t clutter.

5. Disable VPN

nordvpn on mac

Whether you use a free or paid VPN app , it can make things worse for you. VPNs help you browse the internet anonymously and safely. For that, they route your connection from their servers before you see the content on your computer screen. If the VPN’s server is in the middle of a breakdown, your connection will be much slower than usual. In other words, you may not be able to open YouTube on Safari to watch videos like you usually do. Turn off VPN temporarily to check if YouTube plays videos or not.

6. Disable/Uninstall Extensions

If you are a Safari user, you might have already installed some extensions to increase your productivity. There are extensions for YouTube too. However, YouTube might not load videos on Safari due to an internal conflict between extensions. We recommend you disable all extensions and check if you can play YouTube videos. As Safari loads all installed extensions in the Private Mode, you won’t notice any difference there. Go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions and disable them all.

open safari preferences on mac

Uncheck all the checkboxes, close the window, and try opening YouTube.

disable safari extensions on macos

If it works, it’s time to enable one extension at a time to find the culprit.

7. Remove Ad Blocker Apps for Safari

To get rid of YouTube ads, many people use Adblock extensions, apps, etc., instead of purchasing a YouTube Premium subscription. If you use an adblocker extension on Safari, you might not find this issue. However, the official Mac App Store has some similar apps to excite the users. Although some work, it is recommended to remove such apps before opening a YouTube video next time.

8. Disable Content Blocker

Content Blocker is a Safari-specific feature that helps you allow/disallow specific content from loading on a website. It is supposed to improve the browsing experience by blocking unnecessary content in Safari. However, the same thing can break your experience too. To check, try opening the YouTube website (even if it doesn’t load properly), click on Safari > Settings for This Website and remove the tick from Enable content blockers .

11. Check External Monitor Connection

If an external monitor is connected to Mac and you are getting a blank or black screen, check the monitor connection. Several things are involved in dealing with this problem- the monitor, cable, MacBook’s port, etc.

You should verify if all those things are working and connected properly or not. In case you can’t, it is better to ask a professional for help.

Wrapping Up: YouTube Not Woking in Safari

There are mainly three steps to fix the YouTube not playing videos in Safari browser issue. One, you should verify if YouTube is down or not. Two, check if you have an internet connection issue on your computer. Three, use the browser-based solutions as mentioned above. 1. Make sure Safari loads other websites

If you are reading this post in Safari, your internet is fine. You may skip and move to the next solution. If you are reading this in some other browser or device, open Safari on Mac and visit a website.

Does it work? If yes, move to the next fix. If not, learn how to fix the internet not working on Mac .

2. Let us do a quick speed test!

To be straightforward, YouTube is pretty awesome and mostly works even in poor connections (with reduced video quality). However, if Safari is not playing YouTube videos on Mac, perform a quick speed test.

  • Visit fast.com using Safari and let it evaluate your internet speed.
  • If it is around a few Mbps, you are good to go.
  • If it is poorer than that, YouTube won’t work properly. Contact your internet service provider.
  • You may also see our guide on how to increase download speed on Mac .

3. Ensure YouTube is not down

If you can’t play videos all of a sudden, likely, the fault does not lie on your end. Instead, there are some technical issues on YouTube’s side.

To check this, search “ is youtube down .” Click one of the various web search results like:

  • Down Detector
  • Down Right Now
  • Is The Service Down
  • Down for Everyone or Just Me

If YouTube is down for several people, please wait for a while until they fix the issue.

4. Force Quit Safari and relaunch it

  • Press Command + Option + esc keys to bring the Force Quit menu. You may also click the Apple logo at the top left → Force Quit .
  • Select Safari and click Force Quit .

Force Quit Safari and relaunch it

5. Restart your Mac

This is one of the most critical (yet overlooked) solutions. A restart fixes several minor glitches that your Mac picks up during regular use.

To perform this, click the Apple logo at the top left → choose Restart . Once your Mac powers on, try using YouTube in Safari. It should work flawlessly.

Click Apple logo and choose restart

6. Restart your Wi-Fi router

When I lived in a shared space, sometimes YouTube won’t load on Mac’s Safari using the establishment’s Wi-Fi. Often, restarting the router helped.

If you have tried the above solutions and the problem persists, try restarting your home or office Wi-Fi router.

7. Turn off VPN on Mac

Are you using a VPN on your Mac or Wi-Fi router? Though YouTube is not as strict as other streaming services like Hotstar, Netflix, etc., I would advise turning VPN off for an unhindered experience.

8. Clear YouTube Cache and Cookies

Click Safari from top menu bar and choose Preferences

  • Scroll to youtube.com or use the search box to find it.
  • Select youtube.com and click Remove → Done .
  • Press Command + Q to quit Safari.

Select YouTube and click Remove to clear cache and cookies

9. Turn off Safari’s content blocker for YouTube

  • Enter youtube.com in the Safari address bar and try visiting it. It is okay even if YouTube does not load fully.

Click Safari and choose Settings for This Website

  • Uncheck Enable content blockers .
  • Now, quit Safari by pressing Command + Q .

Uncheck Enable content blockers

10. Disable ad blocker in Safari

If you are using an ad blocker in Safari, turn it off entirely. Or safelist YouTube.com. This would ensure there are no conflicting codes that prevent you from watching YouTube.

Tip : If you must use an ad blocker, and your existing one does not play well with YouTube, consider using a different ad blocker .

11. Remove YouTube-specific extension

I primarily use YouTube in Firefox, and I use a fantastic extension called Enhancer for YouTube™. If you too use a Safari extension for YouTube, scripts might conflict.

To fix this, remove the extension . (Deleting it and reinstalling plus updating Safari might also help.)

12. Ensure JavaScript is enabled

By default, it is enabled. But maybe someday, you were tweaking the options and disabled it. So, let us quickly ensure it is enabled.

  • When you are in Safari, press Command + , (comma). You may also click Safari from the top menu bar and choose Preferences .
  • Click Security .

In Safari Preferences ensure Javascript is enabled

13. Update Safari on Mac

Apple pushes Safari updates to ensure it works well overall. To fix this YouTube problem, update the Safari browser . Once that’s done, this problem may be a thing of the past.

14. Use a different browser

Finally, if nothing seems to work, consider using a different browser temporarily. You can use Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, etc. They will most likely not have any issues playing YouTube videos.

This is how you can resolve the issue of YouTube not working in Safari on Mac. I hope the solutions above helped you fix the issue. If you need more assistance, contact me via the comments section below.

  • Tap on “Add Server” and enter the new DNS server address. You can use public DNS servers like Google DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1).

Change DNS settings on iPhone

  • Tap on “Save” to apply the new DNS settings.
  • Exit the Settings app and open the YouTube app to check if the error has been fixed.

By trying these nine fixes, including turning airplane mode on/off, ensuring the YouTube app is up to date, checking device software updates, logging out and logging back into your YouTube account, allowing cellular data and background app refresh for the YouTube app, clearing the cache, restarting the device, using a VPN, and changing DNS settings, you can effectively troubleshoot and resolve the “Something Went Wrong, Tap to Retry” error on mobile.

8 Ways To Fix the “Something Went Wrong” YouTube Error on Desktop (Mac)

When encountering “Something Went Wrong” error on YouTube while using your desktop Mac computer, there are several solutions you can try to resolve the issue.

Disconnect/Reconnect to WiFi

  • Click on the WiFi icon in the menu bar at the top-right corner of your Mac screen.
  • Select “Turn WiFi Off” to disconnect from the WiFi network.
  • Wait for a couple of seconds, then click the WiFi icon again and choose “Turn WiFi On” to reconnect to the network. Once reconnected, open your web browser and access YouTube to check if the error persists.

  • Select “Restart” from the drop-down menu.
  • Wait for your Mac to shut down and restart. Once your Mac has restarted, open your web browser, navigate to YouTube, and see if the error persists.

Ensure Desktop Browser is Up to Date

  • Open your Mac’s web browser (e.g., Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox).
  • Click on the browser’s menu button, usually represented by three vertical dots or lines in the window’s top-right corner.
  • From the drop-down menu, select “About [Browser Name]” (e.g., “About Safari” for Safari browser).

  • Select “Sign Out” from the drop-down menu to log out of your YouTube account.

  • Open your web browser.
  • Click “Safari” in the top left corner of your menu bar and select “preferences.”

Using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) can help resolve YouTube’s “Something Went Wrong” error by bypassing potential network restrictions or resolving connectivity issues. Here’s how you can use a VPN on your Mac:

  • Subscribe to a reputable VPN service provider. As mentioned above, several options, such as NordVPN, ExpressVPN, or CyberGhost, are available.
  • Download and install the VPN client software provided by your chosen VPN service.
  • Launch the VPN application on your Mac.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to log in to your VPN account.
  • Once logged in, select a server location from the available options. Choosing a server location that’s geographically closer to your actual site is recommended for better performance.

Thank you so much for taking the time to prepare this article. I went as far as the VPN instructions/recommendation and then bailed. Still getting that #$%& error message “Something went wrong. Try again.” I’m afraid the solution will be to completely delete YT from my iPad and lose everything I’ve saved, but I my never know because I don’t really want that drastic ending. OR I’ll just put up with searching for videos as I go ….. :(

I’m back to tell you this: I accessed my YT on my laptop and then — magically! — was able to access it on my iPad !!! I have no idea what actually happened, but thought I would pass it on.

I love the step by step troubleshooting. I made it to shutting down and restarting step completed before the issue resolved. Thank you Kinsta!

How to get YouTube videos to play in Safari on Mac

Safari YouTube on Mac

Tell me if this feels familiar: you open up Safari on your Mac and head to YouTube to watch some videos. But a problem arises when you can't seem to play anything, and you keep getting the same message when you try: "Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available".

There are a couple of ways that you can tackle this problem. First, there might be an issue between YouTube and one of your extensions. If disabling an errant extension doesn't work, you might also need to clear website data, which you can do by following the guide below.

  • How to manage website data in Safari in macOS High Sierra

How to manage extensions in Safari

How to remove an extension from safari.

If your YouTube problems stem from one of your extensions, you'll need to disable them all, then reactivate them one by one, refreshing YouTube with each activation to see which extension causes the problem.

  • Open Safari from your Dock or Applications folder.
  • Click Safari in the Menu bar.

Open Safari, click Safari

  • Click Preferences...
  • Click Extensions .

Click Preferences, click Extensions

  • Click the checkbox next to an extension so that it is unchecked in order to disable the extension.
  • Click the checkbox again if you want to turn the extension back on.

Click checkbox, click checkbox

If you feel the need to uninstall the offending extension, here's how you go about it.

Open Safari, click Safari

  • Click on the extension you want to remove.
  • Click Uninstall .

Click on the extension, click Uninstall

If you have any questions about getting YouTube videos to play in Safari after receiving the "Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available" message, let us know in the comments.

How to Fix YouTube Videos Not Loading on Safari on Mac?

How to Fix YouTube Videos Not Loading on Safari on Mac? 1

Safari browser is the default browser by Apple and comes pre-installed on all Apple devices. The Safari browser uses its own WebKit engine to render the pages and load websites. Safari is the second most popular browser after Chrome and is widely used by Mac and Apple users due to its enhanced security and privacy features.

Safari is the default browser for Mac OS. Recently, a few complementary features were introduced into Safari, making the browsing experience better and faster, which is the reason why it is among the top recommended browsers for Mac. Though the browser loads all the websites without any issues, if YouTube is not loading or videos are not streaming on Safari browser on Mac, below are some of the best solutions to fix YouTube not working on Safari browser on a MacBook PC.

Page Contents

1. Restart Mac

Restart Mac PC

The best solution for most Mac issues is to reboot your computer. A PC is a complex machine, and sometimes the issue may be with any of the background processes that may cause the app or network not to work properly. Rebooting the device will give your PC a fresh start and clear up RAM and stop other unwanted processes.

2. DNS Host Connectivity Issue

The browser uses DNS to connect with YouTube to collect the data and load the videos on your Safari Browser. If the host is not able to resolve the connectivity with server DNS, then YouTube videos may not load on your Safari browser. The best solution is to change the DNS. By default, the Mac network will automatically set the DNS provided by your ISP. Changing DNS will not affect your net speeds, and it is completely safe.

The below steps are for Mac Ventura 13 and above. The steps may vary for your macOS; for older macOS, you can try the steps provided in this guide .

System_Settings_Mac

  • Google Public DNS : 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
  • Cloudflare : 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
  • OpenDNS : 208.67.222.123 and 208.67.220.123

3. Disable Extension

Extensions are browser add-ons that help increase browsers’ productivity. The extensions scan the webpage to see if there is any action to perform. Though the extensions are safe, but sometimes code injecting or content blocking extensions can cause site loading issues. It is good to disable or remove the Safari extension on Mac to see if add-ons are the ones that is causing the issue.

  • Open Safari and click Safari in the menu bar

Safari Settings

4. Clear Browser Cache and Data

Huge Cache Buildup may be the main culprit in causing server issues. The cache is data that stores the site’s data and other web information. It helps speed up the page load and fix any connectivity issues with YouTube. Clearing the Cache can help fix the server issue on Safari,

Clear History

  • Select the time range and clear history.
  • Here click on  Advanced Tab

Enable Show Develop menu in menu bar

  • Now click on  Develop  in the menu bar

Empty Caches in Develop Mode

5. Enable JavaScript

JavaScript is a programming language that helps in website design. Though disabling the JS does not have any effect on the website speed, but some websites, like YouTube, may look broken. Therefore, it is good to enable JavaScript.

  • Now click on Settings.

Enable JavaScript Safari Mac

6. Clear YouTube Cache and Cookies

You can clear YouTube Cache, Cookie Data, local storage, and other network preferences on Mac. This will fix any connectivity issues with the app.

Using Safari, it’s easy to watch a video while doing other things

By Barbara Krasnoff , a reviews editor who manages how-tos. She’s worked as an editor and writer for almost 40 years. Previously, she was a senior reviews editor for Computerworld.

Picture in Picture (PIP)

If you like to work with a music video playing in the background or watch your favorite sports team while perusing social media or maybe if you simply like doing two things at once, picture-in-picture (PiP) can be really useful. It lets you pin a small window showing a video within a larger window on your computer or TV screen.

If you’re using a Mac, you can easily set up PiP for a YouTube video using either Apple’s Safari or Google’s Chrome browsers as well.

This first time, on how to have PiP on Safari, is courtesy of a great tweet by Ricky Mondello .

PiP using Safari

  • Right click twice on the YouTube Video. The first click will get you a menu that lets you copy the URL of the video, embed the code, or do other YouTube-related tasks. The second click will get you a more traditional menu.

youtube error licensing video safari

  • Click on “Enter Picture in Picture.” Your video will shrink down to a much smaller size.
  • Open a new tab on your browser (or several, if you want) and go to another site — or you can leave the browser entirely. The video will keep playing.

  • To control the video, hover your cursor over the video. You can pause and restart it, take it out of PiP mode, or close the window entirely.
  • To move the small video window around, you can press down with one finger on your touchpad and use the other finger to move the window around your screen. If you’re using a mouse, then use the Command key.

There are a couple of other ways you can start PiP.

  • While your video is playing, right click on the volume icon in the tab; the menu will include the “Enter Picture in Picture” command. (Note: You won’t see the volume icon if you pause the video.)
  • If you have a Touch Bar, use the PiP icon (it looks like a small filled-in rectangle over a larger clear rectangle).

PiP using Chrome

After this article was published, a reader wrote me and asked why I hadn’t also included the way to do PiP using Google’s Chrome browser on a Mac. So I did a bit of research and found that you can have PiP on your Mac using Chrome — and it works almost exactly the same way that Safari does, except you can either use the built-in method ( courtesy How-To Geek ) or a Google PiP extension.

Use the built-in feature:

  • Right click on the YouTube video you want to make into a PiP
  • As with Safari, the first menu you’ll get will be YouTube’s right-click menu. So right click again (outside of the menu). You’ll get a Chrome menu with a “Picture in Picture” selection; click on that.

Right-click twice in the YouTube video to get the Picture in Picture menu selection.

Again, as with Safari, the PiP functionality is pretty basic; you can move the video anywhere around the screen, pause it, and return it to its YouTube window. However, don’t expect to get any captions with it; the captions will continue to run on the original YouTube page.

Use Google’s PiP extension:

There is no perceivable advantage to using the extension over the built-in right-click feature; both give you the same simple (but effective) PiP feature.

  • In the Chrome Web Store, find the Picture-in-Picture extension . Click on the “Add to Chrome” button.
  • You will be asked for permission to “Read and change all your data on the websites you visit”
  • Once the extension is installed, you can access it either by clicking on the new PiP icon to the right of your address field or hitting the option+P keys.

You can move the PiP image anywhere in your screen; however, captions won’t move with it.

That’s it! Enjoy your video.

Update June 23rd, 2020, 10:08AM ET: This article was originally published on December 27th, 2019, and it has been updated to include instructions on PIP in Chrome.

Youtube Safari Mac - An Error Occurred. Please Try Again Later

Almost every youtube video I watch on Safari for the past few days keeps coming up with an error after a few minutes of playing.

The error says "An Error Occurred. Please Try Again Later. (Playback ID)

This started happening randomly and is very annoying as I always have to reload the page and hope it doesn't happen again.

Yes, I've realised that it was caused because I didn't update my adblocker, which I have now done and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Youtube videos won't play in Safari anymore for some reason

Over the last few days, Youtube videos won't play when I open them in Safari for some reason. The screen is just black and when I click on it, it says there has been an error (see screenshot). The rest of the Youtube page loads (sidebar, comments etc). The only extension I have that could be interfering is AdBlock, but that has been installed for a long time without problems, and even when I disable it for Youtube, the problem continues to occur. I don't think I've updated anything recently, and obviously Youtube is all HTML5 now so I don't think Flash issues are the problem (it's disabled in Safari anyway as default). I've restarted my MBP too and the problem is still occurring. They play perfectly fine in Chrome, which I don't ever use otherwise. Any ideas? This is really frustrating.

The extension is to blame, some have been updated in the past week to address the issue. But there is a simple trick to block ads on YouTube, no extension required Lifehacker - Block YouTube Ads With a Single Keystroke https://lifehacker.com/block-youtube-ads-with-a-single-keystroke-1843996248

Thanks for your reply! Can I ask how do you know it's the extension for sure? It's only started happening in the last 2-3 days max, and strangely not for all youtube videos, about 20% play fine. That's a nifty little trick, but I use youtube quite a bit so probably not ideal. Plus I do require an ad blocker for general use, and it seems as if the problem remains even if I exempt YT from ad blocking.

Yeah so disabling AdBlock has fixed the issue. If only I didn't have to choose between that and ads!

No updates from my end. Same problem with AdBlock and another ad blocker I tried as well. I've just been pausing the ad blocker on the videos it's affecting, and turning it back on afterwards, which is mildly annoying but can't be helped I guess. Unless anyone else has any suggestions to try something clever?

Same for me. All works fine when playing them in Chrome but some some just won't open in Safari. I turned off 1Blocker and it works fine. I don't understand how this has suddenly started, just in the last couple of days. I don't recall Safari or 1Blocker getting updated. This must be something from YouTube's end?

Thanks for this question. Having exact same problem. Will temporarily disable ad blocker. Wish I didn't have to. Thanks!

So this is watching Youtube videos in Safari, not in a You tube app? Ok well have you tried this: Install Duckduckgo as your search engine. On the Duckduckgo results page find settings>privacy> video playback: check 'always play on duckduckgo' Go back to the video tab and search for whatever it is you want to watch. Now when you see the thumbnail of the video you want, click on the thumbnail NOT the link underneath. The thumbnail should play the video on Duckduck go without adverts. You will have the opportunity to expand the link to full screen. Sometimes, it isn't allowed and sometimes you will have a screen asking you to confirm you want to watch it there, but usually it works and it's far more enjoyable experience If you do click the link underneath, then it takes you directly to Youtube as usual. I strongly recommend Duckduckgo by the way. It doesn't add a time out like Google and a lot of people don't realise, if you ad block Google it'll make you wait up sometimes 16 seconds to load the page. I've thoroughly checked this out and so I'm sure it's true. Blocking Google syndication is the worst. Also try out their privacy essentials as part of your blocking. It helps. Best

I just had this issue with Firefox and YouTube TV. Fix was deleting cache then disabling plug-ins one by one and retrying. I found one plug in was the issue. Initially, just start Firefox in safe mode and if YouTube works, its an extension or plug in. Safari is a little different as I think it requires a reset to go back to factory settings

I have the same issue and no extensions enabled. If you click the Develop tab at the top of Safari and hover over "user agent" you should be able to click on "Safari iOS 13.1.3 iPhone". This will tell websites you're on an iPhone not a Mac. If you do this when on the YouTube homepage, www.youtube.com , then the website should refresh and then you should be able to watch videos again. Mind you, I don't think this is the best solution as you may have to do this every time you visit YouTube.com. Also the UI for YouTube will be slightly different as you will be on the mobile website.

Ways to Fix YouTube not working on Safari

 Written By

Summary: If you’re having problems watching YouTube videos with Safari browser, then you’re not alone. After the release of a few latest versions of the browser, many users are raising concerns about YouTube not working on Safari. The most commonly faced errors are black screen, no audio, videos not opening, etc. In this article, you will learn all about the reasons behind this problem and the solutions to fix it.

Reasons why YouTube is not working on Safari

Methods to fix safari not playing youtube videos, what to do if videos downloaded from youtube don’t play, to conclude.

YouTube is the most famous and convenient platform for streaming and uploading videos globally. However, you could face problems accessing the Safari browser, especially if it’s the latest version. You may see the same video working fine with other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome, but your favorite OS browser (which is Safari in this case) may be acting up.

This glitch can happen due to several reasons which are unknown to most users. Despite searching for the solution across Apple Support Forums, nothing concrete seems to turn up.

Fortunately, though, we have a remedy to fix the problem of Safari not playing videos that might work! But before we discuss it, let’s try to get to the root of the problem. This may also help you avoid the same issue in the future.

1. Third-party plugins

This is the most common reason Safari isn’t successful in playing YouTube videos. Often, unsuitable or faulty third-party plugins can hamper the compatibility of YouTube in the browser, causing the videos not to play.

2. Change in Security Settings

Improper security or network settings can cause this problem on your device.

3. Malfunctioned Browser

An outdated or corrupted browser can also lead to this issue.

4. Connection Problem

Sometimes the problem arises due to a weak internet connection or low network strength. An impacted YouTube server could also be why your Safari can’t play YouTube videos.

5. Device Problems

If YouTube is not working on any browser on your device, you should know that the problem is with the device. This can happen due to outdated versions or other underlying issues.

6. Storage Issue

If your device runs low on storage or RAM, this can cause issues with YouTube video loading.

Youtube video content requires Flash. Open System Preferences > Flash Player and then select the Advanced tab. Then click: Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings. Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

7. Does your System have Flash installed?

If you still have problems, make sure Flash is up to date. System Preferences > Flash Player > Updates > Check Now.

Now, let’s move on to the solutions for YouTube not working on Safari.

1. Check your internet connection

A strong internet connection is required to play online videos smoothly. A high-speed Wi-Fi connection ensures this requirement is fulfilled. But there can be some problems with it too.

Follow these steps to check your Wi-Fi connectivity:

For MacBook

  • Click on the Wi-Fi icon on the Menu .
  • Turn on the Wi-Fi if it is turned off.
  • Select from the available Wi-Fi network list.

Safari not Playing YouTube Videos

For iPhone and iPad

  • Go to the Settings menu.
  • Click on the Wi-Fi option and check if it is turned on.
  • Then check if it is connected to the correct network.
  • You can also connect and disconnect it to fix the issue.

Fix Safari not Playing YouTube Videos

Also, make sure that you are not using any VPN. If you are and it is on, then disable it and try to reconnect to YouTube.

2. Enable YouTube site permissions

All web browsers allow us to enable or disable the permissions for a specific website. Check if the Safari browser on your device hasn’t revoked YouTube’s permission. To check, simply:

  • Launch the Safari browser and open YouTube’s URL.
  • Then open browser settings.
  • If the permissions are disabled, enable them.
  • Refresh the page, and YouTube will work fine.

Enable YouTube site permissions

3. Clear cache and cookies

Clearing the browser cache and cookies (and even the browsing history) is the most common solution to solve a website loading issue. You can improve your online video streaming experience by doing this with Safari.

Follow the below steps:

  • Click on the Safari option on top.
  • Select Preferences from the list.
  • Now click on the Privacy tab and select Remove All Website Data .
  • Proceed with Confirm and restart the Safari.

Clear cache and cookies

  • Open the Settings menu.
  • Click the Safari option.
  • Go to Clear History and Website Data .
  • Select the option and then proceed with Clear History and Data .

For iPhone and iPad

4. Disable extensions

More often than not, users install browser extensions to enhance their browsing experience. However, sometimes faulty extensions can cause more trouble than help. For example, if you have installed the YouTube browser extension, a technical glitch could cause the issue.

The recommended way to fix this is to disable all extensions in your browser and then enable them one by one. This will help you identify the exact culprit. Simply go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions and disable all extensions. After that, try launching YouTube. If it works, you can ensure the issue is with one of your extensions.

5. Try a Different Browser

Have you considered that maybe the issue is with your browser installation or some other setting? Most users have at least two web browsers installed on their Macs. If not, download another browser, install it, and try to launch YouTube with it. If it works on the alternate Browser, you can ensure the issue is with your Safari installation. In this case, proceed to the fix discussed next.

6. Restart/Reset/Update Safari

One of the quickest options to solve any application issue is restarting it. Therefore, quit the Safari browser and restart your device. Then check the Browser to see if it plays the YouTube videos; if not, try resetting or updating the Safari.

For MacBook, follow the below steps to reset Safari after clearing cache, cookies, and history:

  • Open the Safari browser.
  • Click on the Safari option on the top bar.
  • From the drop-down list, click on Reset Safari .

Stellar

To update Safari after clearing cache, cookies, and history:

  • Click on Apple in the top left corner.
  • Select the App Store, and it will open it.
  • Then click on the Updates option on the top bar.
  • If there is an update available for Safari, click on Update .

update Safari after clearing cache

For iPhones and iPads:

  • Open Settings
  • Scroll to (and open) General
  • Press Software Update.
  • Let your device scan for an update, then press Download.
  • After the update downloads, press Install Now and follow the instructions.

7. Remove ad and content blocker apps

Like extensions, many users install ad and content blockers on their browsers to improve their browsing experience. This helps them avoid ads and content they don’t wish to see popping on their screens. If you have such apps installed within your Browser, try removing them before opening YouTube.

Disable Ads Blockers

– Go to the Develop tab -> Experimental features -> enable VP9 SW decoder on battery & VP9 Decoder.

-Safari -> Settings for This Website -> uncheck enable content blockers

– Disabled all extensions.

After trying the above commands one by one, close and restart Safari.

8. Check if YouTube is down

To check, use this website  Down for Everyone or Just Me . You can detect whether YouTube is down at your end only or for everyone.

Stellar

9. Enable JavaScript

To play embedded YouTube videos in Safari, you must have JavaScript enabled. Without it, you will likely see broken content or crashing YouTube videos.

Here are the steps you should follow:

  • Launch Safari on Mac and go to Safari > Preferences .
  • Click on the Security tab and check the box against Enable JavaScript .

Enable JavaScript

  • Now refresh the page where you’re trying to play YouTube and see if it works.

Instead of watching lengthy YouTube videos online, many users prefer downloading them and enjoy watching them in their free time. However, interruptions between downloads can sometimes damage or corrupt such a video.

If this happens, the best way to fix such damaged videos is to use a professional video repair tool. We recommend using Stellar Repair for Video to fix any video issues on MacBook, iPhone, iPad, as well as Windows systems. The tool uses advanced algorithms to help users overcome the most complex video-related problems within a few clicks. Through a simple 3-step repair process, this software can help you fix buggy, glitch, or distorted videos to ensure a smooth playback experience.

My safari YouTube is not Working

Hi Areeba, Thank you for reaching out Stellar. This is a very common error that is being faced by many of the users. We wrote this blog to overcome such user experiences. I hope it would have helped you too.

Hey I am having trouble with my Safari YouTube because it aways says “Sorry, you can’t access YouTube for Mobile Web with your account”. I also can’t click on any buttons or I can’t go to the YouTube settings it just says that.

Hi Serenity, I understand your concern and would like to know if you are using YouTube on the Safari browser, is your iPhone or Macbook been given from work? If yes, then it means that your Google Workspace domain administrator has not yet enabled YouTube. So it would be best if you spoke with the administrator. I hope it helps!

My YouTube is stuck; Please help and guide me on what I can do.

Hi Kiwi, If your video on YouTube is stuck, then press and hold the Command + Option + Esc keys simultaneously. It will force quit and may fix the issue. I hope it helps!

Hi Kiwi, If your video on YouTube is stuck, press and hold the Command + Option + Esc keys simultaneously. It will force quit and may fix the issue. I hope it helps!

My YouTube is still not working after all the possible methods. Please suggest.

Hi Cosbo, Sometimes, extra plugins installed may be the reason for YouTube not working, such as a third-party video downloader. Try removing those plugins and restart your browser to check your YouTube playback on Safari.

I recently upgraded the internet router at my home and since then I have been facing this issue on my Mac where YouTube videos works on and off. Is my router an issue? As earlier, I never faced this issue.

Hi Gurang, It may be an issue as you have said earlier you never faced this issue with your previous router. If you are using any VPN, then also you might check the compatibility as well. Try to turn off the VPN after restarting your router. This might solve your issue.

Yes! Finalⅼy someone writes about safari.

Thanks for your appreciation. We believe in professional ethics to be on our toes for our customers & users who motivate us to come up with data recovery and repair solutions to their problems.

Pittsburgh-area woman mistakenly gets traffic ticket from Philadelphia

By Meghan Schiller

Updated on: May 16, 2024 / 7:33 PM EDT / CBS Pittsburgh

WEST VIEW, Pa. (KDKA) -- A case of mistaken identity led to a six-month-long mix-up. A woman from the Pittsburgh area said she was getting repeated notices about a red light violation. The only problem: the traffic ticket is from Philadelphia -- a place she's never been.

Caroline Ydstie and her husband Matt from West View drive a blue Honda Civic. So imagine their confusion when parking tickets from the Philadelphia Parking Authority for a white Ford started arriving in the mail. It says she ran a red light on Roosevelt Boulevard in Philadelphia.

"They wanted $175, which seemed like a lot for never having parked in Philly," Caroline said.

She's never parked in Philly, never ran a red light in Philly, never even been to Philly. She thought it was a simple mix-up.

"The Philadephia Parking Authority had sent me to collections at this point and when I asked them what had happened, they said, 'oh, you need to check with PennDOT again' so I emailed PennDOT and they said, 'oh, you'll have to go to court,'" Caroline said.

Not happening, she said.

"That was going to cost more than what I owed for the ticket," Caroline said.

So she called KDKA Investigates who found the person who actually ran the red light. Spoiler alert: he's from Philly.

His white Ford has a plate that's nearly identical to hers -- a literal flip of one letter difference, a W to an M.

Philadelphia Parking Authority said a human error inputting the plate into the system got his red light-running tied to her plate.

"The license plates were off by one letter, which, the font is similar, so I can see someone overworked typing in the wrong thing, but at that point, they should clearly see that my wife's name is not Elmer and that a blue Honda Civic is not a white Ford Escape," Matt said.

It calls into question the accuracy of these red light cameras and the process on the back end. They require a technician to review the red light pictures, weed out any errors, confirm the plate and send out the ticket. In this situation, that created the error.

"The copy of my registration and the form I filled out should have showed them that that was not my car," Caroline said.

But it didn't, until KDKA-TV started making phone calls. So here's what you can do to defend yourself.

View the photos and videos. Was it actually your car? What color? What type of car? Does it show you running a red light?

Understand the red light rules: in Pennsylvania, the owner of the vehicle is liable for the penalty.

And know the penalties. A fine of $100 is usual, but there are several times, like within the first 60 days of the red light operating, when they aren't allowed to fine you.

Caroline's glad she fought to keep her money.

And as for her plans to go to Philly? "Maybe with a different license plate?" she said with a laugh.

A spokesperson for the Philadelphia Parking Authority issued this statement:

"The Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) apologizes to Ms. Caroline Ydstie for any inconvenience caused by a license plate clerical input error that occurred when a 'W' was inadvertently entered into the system instead of an 'M' - which resulted in her being wrongly notified of a violation that was meant for another vehicle. The clerical error has been rectified and Ms. Ydstie will not be responsible for the violation or any fine."
