What You Need to Know about The Trek Credit Card

Credit Card

The marketplace is overflowing with a variety of credit card offers geared towards niche target groups. It seems that there is a perfect credit card for consumers from every walk of life. Trek is a credit card that was designed with bicycling enthusiasts in mind, hence the name Trek. If you've not yet heard about this financial tool and you're into cycling, here is everything you need to know about the Trek Credit Card.

What is the Trek Credit Card?

The Trek Credit Card is a card that offers a variety of special financing options for bicycle enthusiasts and others. If you've had your eye on a new specialty bike but you're not yet prepared to lay out the cash, the Trek Card offers solutions for financing the bike of your dreams and more. The card is recognized by over 1,000 Trek retailers throughout the nation, according to the Trek Store . This is a store card that allows you to finance the purchase of bicycles, equipment, clothing, accessories, and anything else that is sold through Trek retailers.

What are the benefits of a Trek Card?

According to the Trek community website , the Trek Credit Card offers the benefits of a credit card at Trek Bikes with no annual fees. The initial APR on the card is just 9.99 percent for the first 24, 36, 48, or 60 months, depending on the promotional package you are accepted for. The rate goes up to a variable APR of 26.99 percent after the initial promotion expires.

Special purchase deals

Trek also offers special financing deals. If your purchases total $201 or more you may qualify for 6-month financing. If they are $420 or more, you may qualify for 12-month financing deals. You are required to make minimum monthly payments on a convenient schedule. The larger your purchase, the longer you have to extend the financing period.

Overview of the Trek credit card

Next Level Finance explains that the Trek credit card is a lifestyle card that is good at Trek retailers and local retailers that are licensed to sell Trek products. It's a store credit card that does not offer any rewards. It's not useful for building points towards a goal, but it does offer a zero percent introductory rate for the first 12 months. There are very few store credit cards that offer this kind of savings. The greatest benefit of the Trek credit card is that it allows you to purchase Trek products on credit. If you pay the charges off while the introductory zero interest rate is still in effect, you save a ton of money on interest charges and this is likely to be more beneficial than a rewards program that requires copious amounts of high-interest spending.

Do you need good credit to obtain a Trek credit card?

The Trek card is backed by Comenity bank. They set the credit requirements for approval of financing. You don't need stellar credit to qualify for a Trek card, but your credit score must be at least in the "fair" range" which means it must be 640 or better. Higher credit scores may help you to qualify for higher maximum amounts on the credit card. Another benefit of the Trek card is that cardholders with marginally fair credit scores can use the card to build up their credit scores. This requires making all payments on time. The bank reports to the major credit reporting agencies so a solid payment history is likely to boost your credit rating.

Review of the Trek Credit Card

Wallet Hub delivers a reliable assessment of the merit of the Trek Credit Card. They summarize the benefits of the card along with its shortcomings. They conclude that the Trek card is best suited for consumers who are interested in purchasing bicycles and accessories from Trek stores. It's the most useful for those who seek to build their credit rating. Cardholders with the ability to pay off the charges within the first 12 months of financing reap the most benefits because of the zero percent interest charge during this introductory period. The lack of a rewards program is compensated by the zero-interest introductory offer. Some cards offer many more benefits, but few that allow interest-free financing for a full year. This card is also for consumers who have a credit rating that is just "fair." Those with higher scores may want to consider a card that offers more in the way of rewards and benefits.

How long is the approval process

You may apply for the Trek Credit Card online. You must provide standard information on a secure website, including your name, social security number, and a few other personal details. If everything checks out instantly, you can hear in just a few seconds through the online format. Some applicants have experienced a wait time of up to five business days to receive their responses. Sometimes additional information is requested by the decision-makers to confirm identity or proof of income.

Final thoughts

The Trek Credit Card is a useful way to help build a low credit score, but it's also a great way to save money on financing bicycles and associated gear and accessories. There are no special rewards associated with this card, other than a full year of interest-free payments. Although it's not a card that is particularly useful after the introductory period, it's one that is good to use in the short-term. The interest rates after the initial promotion rise to a fairly high rate that is not difficult for other cards to beat, even with marginally good credit. Bicycle enthusiasts who can't wait to get their hands on their dream bikes can have their wishes fulfilled through the Trek credit card, and they may also enjoy a boost to their credit scores at the same time.

Screen Rant

Star trek: ds9's nana visitor stayed "traumatized" to make major kira authentic.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Nana Visitor used a controversial acting technique to bring Major Kira Nerys' traumatic past to life.

  • Nana Visitor used Method acting for Major Kira's "traumatized emotional states," staying in character personally.
  • Visitor's performance as Kira in "Duet" made it one of DS9's best episodes, impacting her deeply.
  • Visitor held on to Kira's memories, bringing authenticity to the trauma of the Cardassian occupation on Bajor.

To bring authenticity to her performance as Major Kira Nerys on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , actress Nana Visitor kept herself "traumatized" by the anger and resentment that defined Kira's character. After Nerys spent most of her life as a Bajoran freedom fighter during the Cardassian occupation, Major Kira found herself in new territory as the Bajoran liaison to Deep Space Nine and First Officer to Commander Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks). Even after Bajor won independence, it was impossible for Kira to forget the trauma that the Cardassians inflicted on the Bajoran people, and on Kira's life in particular.

The acting technique known as "the Method" asks actors to imagine themselves in the same situations as their characters, and call up the personal emotions associated with being in those situations. Method acting can elicit brilliant performances, but can sometimes harm an actor's well-being if proper care isn't taken to maintain boundaries between actor and character, especially while performing challenging or complicated roles. To make Major Kira an authentic character, and honor the people who experienced harm at the hands of oppressors, instead of trivializing the real-world parallels in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , Nana Visitor inhabited the character of Major Kira Nerys this way.

Major Kira's Best Star Trek DS9 Episodes

Nana visitor used method acting for major kira's "traumatized emotional states", staying in character as kira nerys affected visitor personally..

The hosts of The Delta Flyers podcast, Star Trek: Voyager 's Robert Duncan McNeill and Garrett Wang, invited Nana Visitor onto the show for their coverage of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 1, episode 19, "Duet", which is a seminal episode of DS9 for Major Kira Nerys, and often considered one of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 's best episodes . Visitor opened up about the process of filming "Duet," and the difficulty that came with taking on Major Kira's trauma as her own. Read her quote below and listen to The Delta Flyers , starting at the 18:25 time stamp.

Nana Visitor: "I went to a place where ... my body and mind are believing the situation that I'm telling myself. And I didn't often come out, because I wanted certainty. I wanted to know I'd be ready when the camera was ready, and I'd stay in these traumatized emotional states to the point where it affected my brain, for good and for bad. But ["Duet"] was the show -- that was probably the night -- that I started dreaming Major Kira's dreams, not mine."

Visitor's Performance As Kira Made "Duet" One of DS9's Best Episodes

Credit is also due to harris yulin as cardassian prisoner aamin marritza..

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 1, episode 19, "Duet", is aptly named, with the majority of the episode's scenes playing out between Nana Visitor's Major Kira and a Cardassian named Aamin Marritza, played by Harris Yulin. Visitor and Yulin square off like sparring partners to perform, as Visitor puts it in The Delta Flyers , " a tango ," a dance that relies on the tension and resolution of heightened emotions. Yulin's Marritza -- or is it Gul Darheel? -- is intentionally different every time Kira approaches his cell, strategically changing the tempo to achieve his ultimate end goal at any cost.

Nana Visitor holds on tightly to Kira's memories like lifelines.

The strength of "Duet" is in Visitor's performance, and the sea change that repeated encounters with Marritza inspire in Kira. Nana Visitor holds on tightly to Kira's memories like lifelines, and drags the pain of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor into the present search for justice by force. Kira's anger keeps bubbling under the surface of a calm that's abandoned when faced with confronting Marritza directly, and it's understandable. It's real. It's deeply personal. By the episode's end, the weight of Kira's trauma is made lighter , but by just a few ounces. It's not enough to heal the past, but it's enough to light a path of hope as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine moves forward.

Data From 73 Million AT&T Accounts Stolen: What AT&T Is Doing, How to Protect Yourself

F ollowing the announcement that hackers had stolen the personal information of 73 million current and former AT&T customers, the telecommunications giant is now notifying 7.6 million current customers that they can sign up for one free year of credit monitoring and identity theft detection.

The stolen data appears to be from 2019 or earlier, AT&T said in a statement , and includes Social Security numbers and account information for approximately 65.4 million former customers and 7.6 million current account holders.

The leak first came to light in 2021, when  hackers claimed they'd stolen customer data from AT&T  and would put the information up for sale. Fast-forward to March 2024, the stolen personal information was discovered on the dark web, according to Troy Hunt , creator of Have I Been Pwned .

In response, AT&T said it has contacted the 7.6 million current customers and has reset their passcodes. Whether you're in the smaller set of current customers or the larger group of former account holders who think their data has been stolen in the breach, you can take steps to potentially lessen the damage of the breach. Read on for what you can do. AT&T didn't immediately respond to CNET's request for comment.

For more, here are our picks for the best identity theft protection and monitoring services  and how Consumer Report's permission slip can help you take control of your online data .

What to know about the AT&T data leak

AT&T on March 30 said that the personal information of 73 million current and former customers was leaked in mid-March to the dark web. The company said the stolen information appears to be from 2019 or earlier, and it does not know if the information came from AT&T or one of its vendors.

What personal information was stolen in the AT&T breach?

According to AT&T , which customer and account data was stolen may vary by account, but thieves had access to customers' full name, email address, mailing address, phone number, Social Security number, date of birth, AT&T account number and passcode. AT&T said the information doesn't appear to contain personal financial information or call history.

What's AT&T doing for customers whose data was stolen?

In addition to resetting passcodes, AT&T said it is providing the 7.6 million customers whose accounts were breached identity-theft and credit-monitoring services through  Experian's IdentityWorks for one year for free.

What is an AT&T passcode?

A customer's passcode is essentially a numerical PIN and is usually four digits. A passcode is different from a password and is required to complete an AT&T installation, perform personal account functions by phone or contact technical support by phone, AT&T said.

How to reset your AT&T passcode

AT&T said it has already reset the passcodes for those active accounts where data was stolen but recommends if you haven't changed your passcode in the past year, you should change yours as a precaution. Here's how to change your AT&T passcode.

  • Head to your  myAT&T Profile . Sign in, if asked. (If you have extra security enabled and can't sign in, AT&T says to choose  Get a new passcode )
  • Scroll to  My linked accounts
  • Select  Edit  for the passcode you want to update
  • Follow the prompts to finish up

Where can you check if you are part of the AT&T breach

AT&T said it will email or mail a letter to the 7.6 million current customers whose data was stolen, explaining the incident, what information was compromised and what it is doing in response. The company said it has reset passcodes for affected current customers. The company said it is also communicating with the 65.4 million former account holders whose data was stolen.

You don't have to wait for AT&T to contact you. Using Have I Been Pwned , you can check whether your data has been leaked. If you store your password information in a Google account, the company's  Password Checkup tool can alert you if your account information has been exposed. The premium version of our favorite password manager , Bitwarden, can check for stolen passwords on the web.

Changing your passcode and password, if AT&T hasn't contacted you, can help secure your account.

How to monitor your credit report for fraud

If you think your personal information was part of the AT&T breach, you can watch your credit reports for signs of potential fraud.

Monitor your credit reports. You get one free credit report a year from the three major credit bureaus: Equifax , Experian and TransUnion . On your report, look for unusual or unfamiliar activity, such as the appearance of new accounts you didn't open. Watch your credit card accounts and bank statements for unexpected charges and payments.

Sign up for a credit monitoring service. Pick a credit monitoring service that constantly monitors your credit report on major credit bureaus and alerts you when it detects unusual activity. To help with the monitoring, you can set fraud alerts that notify you if someone is trying to use your identity to create credit. A credit-reporting service like LifeLock can start at $7.50 a month -- or you could use a free service like the one from Credit Karma .

What to do if you suspect you're a victim of fraud or identity theft

As soon as you suspect your personal information has been stolen, take action to stop unauthorized charges and start to recover your identity.

Place a fraud alert. If you suspect fraud, place a fraud alert with each of the credit reporting companies: Equifax , Experian and TransUnion . The alert notifies creditors that you have been a victim of fraud and lets them know to verify new credit requests in your name. You can place an initial fraud alert, which stays on your credit report for 90 days, or an extended fraud alert, which stays on your credit report for seven years. Placing a fraud alert won't affect your credit score.

Contact fraud departments. For each business and credit card company where you think an account was opened or charged without your knowledge, contact its fraud department. While you're not responsible for fraudulent charges to an account, you need to report the suspicious activity promptly.

Freeze your credit. If you want to stop anyone from opening credit and requesting loans and services in your name without your permission, you can freeze your credit. You will need to request a freeze with each of the three credit reporting companies, which again are  Equifax , Experian and TransUnion . To apply for new credit, you need to unfreeze your credit through each of the credit reporting companies. You can either request a temporary lift of the freeze or unfreeze it permanently.

Create a recovery plan.  The Federal Trade Commission has a valuable tool that helps you  report identity theft and recover your identity  through a personal recovery plan and  Identity Theft Report , which you can use to dispute charges.

Document everything. Keep copies of all documents and expenses and records of your conversations about the theft.

AT&T has been keeping mum about how customer data was leaked. That doesn't mean you can't protect yourself from possible identity theft.

AT&T Data Breach: What AT&T Is Doing for the 73 Million Accounts Breached

If you're worry about your data, here's what you can do, including how to reset your AT&T account passcode.

AT&T said it has reset the passcodes for 7.6 million current customers, in response.

AT&T is now notifying 73 million current and former customers who had their personal information stolen. The company has let affected people know they can sign up for one free year of credit monitoring and identity theft detection through Experian's IdentityWorks.

The AT&T account breach appears to be from 2019 or earlier, the company said in a statement , and includes Social Security numbers and account information for approximately 65.4 million former customers and 7.6 million current account holders.

The data leak first came to light in 2021, when  hackers claimed they'd stolen customer data from AT&T  and would put the information up for sale.

What is AT&T doing for the 73 million customers whose data was stolen?

In addition to resetting passcodes, AT&T said it is providing the 73 million current and former customers whose accounts were breached identity-theft and credit-monitoring services through  Experian's IdentityWorks for one year for free.

AT&T said customers need to sign up for identity theft protection service by Aug. 30, 2024.

AT&T is offering a variety of protections for the some 70 million people whose personal information may have been exposed in a massive data breach.

The company announced in late April 7.6 million current customers and 65.4 million former customers were affected by the breach, which could have included full names, email and mailing addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and AT&T account numbers and passcodes from 2019 and earlier. It did not, according to the company, include personal financial information or call history.

It has not been determined if the breach originated with AT&T or one of its vendors.

AT&T said it has reached out to current customers and have reset passcodes – a set of numbers used to access an account but different than passwords.

According to KPRC-TV in Houston , AT&T is also offering:

  • One year of complimentary credit monitoring, identity theft detection and resolution services through Experian’s Identity Works.
  • An insurance policy up to $1 million in coverage in the event a customer experiences identity theft
  • An identity restoration team that will help guide victims through any recovery process

Customers are advised to:

  • AT&T said it’s taken “precautionary measures” and reset passcodes – the numerical pin associated with your account that’s different than your password - but it’s not a bad idea to do it yourself. It’s also reaching out by mail or email to individuals whose personal information has been compromised to offer free identity theft and credit monitoring services. You can see more on that here.
  • Monitor account activity and banking information.
  • Set up free fraud alerts from nationwide credit bureaus - Equifax , Experian , and TransUnion . You can also request and review your free credit report at any time via Freecreditreport.com .
