Some of the above Labuan Bajo tourist attractions are super popular, whereas some are definitely off the beaten path .

I’d definitely say every traveller, being it the adventurer, the beach bum, the local culture connoisseur or the family-friendly crowd has something they could do in Labuan Bajo Flores.

1. Komodo National Park

Get jurassic with the komodos at komodo and rinca island.

labuan bajo solo trip

No trip to Labuan Bajo is complete without a visit to Komodo National Park – It’s a Labuan Bajo MUST VISIT!!!

Home of the iconic Komodo Dragon, the park includes both Komodo Island and Rinca Island, two incredibly diverse islands that are packed with plenty a Komodo.

As you explore the park, make sure to keep your distance from the Komodo Dragons though, as they can be intimidatingly huge and have sharp claws!

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: My first time seeing a Komodo Dragon in Komodo National Park – I had heard about these incredible creatures, but nothing could have prepared me for the sheer size and majesty of them when I finally saw one up close! Even from far away, their incredible presence made me feel both excited and a tiny bit scared – after all, these are descendants of dinosaurs!!! As we got closer and the guides explained more about them, I was amazed at their intelligence and strength as well as when and when they wouldn’t attack – whew! It was an incredible experience that I’ll never forget.

To visit Komodo National Park you will need to pay for an entrance ticket, which includes a guide that is required when exploring the park. With their help and guidance, you’ll be able to learn all about these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat.

Trek to the Most Spectacular View at Padar Island

labuan bajo solo trip

Second, on my Labuan Bajo to-do list is Padar Island . Padar Island is a stunning destination for those seeking beauty from a view!

RELATED READ: From Sea to Summit: The Ultimate Guide to Exploring Padar Island

This small, uninhabited island is located in the middle of Komodo National Park, and its unique landscape and configuration make it truly one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The journey to Padar Island begins with a short boat ride from Labuan Bajo, followed by a steep, rocky trek up the volcano-like structure of the island.

The trek is worth it though, as from the summit you can take in truly breathtaking views of its lush hillsides and pristine beaches. On clear days, you can even see neighbouring islands in the distance!

A Shot for the gram’ at Pink Beach Komodo Islands

labuan bajo solo trip

Pink Beach in Komodo National Park is an absolute must-see! This beach is a photographer’s dream come true, with its stunning and vibrant pink sands set against the clear blue waters.

Its powdery white sands blend effortlessly with the warm reds and pinks, creating an absolutely mesmerizing landscape. The scenery here is so photo-worthy, you’ll want to post it on every social media platform!

What makes the sand pink? The pink hues of the sand come from remnants of red corals and foraminifera that are scattered in the area, making this beach even more unique. So make sure to bring your camera and get ready for some amazing shots!

Another Island another Jaw dropping View at Kelor Island

labuan bajo solo trip

It’s truly a lovely little island with a tranquil little beach – there’s literally nothing else, but follow a short, but incredibly steep and somewhat unsteady climb to the top and you’ll be rewarded with an absolutely exotic view.

Although the winding sandy track is pretty tricky to climb it’s highly suggested if you’re not comfortable rather just enjoy from the beach. You’ll equally be delighted with the shimmering oceans and shallow waters lapping at your toes.

Witness the flight of the Flying Fox at Kalong Island

labuan bajo solo trip

Kalong Island, or “Bat Island” as it is sometimes known, is an absolute must-see when visiting Komodo National Park.

Every day at sunset, thousands of majestic flying foxes take to the skies creating a spectacularly awe-inspiring scene. As they soar through the air in perfect unison, their silhouettes create a mesmerizing dance against the setting sun.

The entire sky is filled with these majestic creatures, creating a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere. The flight of the flying foxes at Kalong Island is one of nature’s most incredible shows and an absolute must-see on your things to do in Labuan Bajo list.

PICTURE THIS: Imagine that with a cocktail in hand, sipping, taking in the sunset and then this majestic site unfolds before your eyes as you lay back on a bean bag on the deck of a gorgeous Phinisi Boat – Travel goals much?

2. Explore the Majestic Cunca Rami and Cunca Wulang Waterfalls in Labuan Bajo

Cunca rami waterfall.

labuan bajo solo trip

Located in an isolated valley just a 90-minute drive away from Labuan Bajo town, this is a beauty. To get to the stunning Cunca Rami Waterfalls, you’ll need to take a winding, narrow and bumpy road until you reach the nearest village.

TRAVELIST TIP: I highly recommend doing these off-the-beaten-path activities with a tour i.e: car and driver! Although you might think you’re a competent motorcycle driver – these roads are not your typical city streets and are very isolated so if you do get a spot of bother – it might be more serious than you think!

From here, it’s just a 40-minute hike along a small river before you can marvel at this natural wonder. Make sure to bring plenty of water and food for the journey and enjoy meeting some friendly locals who will greet you along the way.

Bring along your swim gear too because it’s very likely that you’ll want to take a dip in the serene waterfall pool after that journey.

Also, be sure to take a guide to the falls: it’s about IDR 50 000 – 100 000 (remember you’re also there to boost the economy and give these locals a chance to take care of you and snap all your instaworthy shots)

➡️ LABUAN BAJO PRIVATE DAY TOUR : Explore caves, waterfalls and stunning sunset views >>BOOK IT

Cunca Wulang Waterfall

labuan bajo solo trip

Cunca Wulang is a spectacular waterfall located in the Mbeliling Forest area. From Labuan Bajo city centre, you’ll need to take a scenic 1-hour drive through winding roads until you reach the nearest village, then take an adventurous 20-minute hike to the top of the waterfall.

Standing at almost 2000m above sea level it’s a stunner! Once you’ve reached the top, you’ll be greeted with a breathtaking view of a deep blue lagoon and cascading tumbling waterfalls surrounded by lush green foliage.

This is an absolute must-visit when things to do in Labuan Bajo as it’s simply stunning! Take your shoes off and dip your toes in the refreshing pool of cool, clear water. it’s so inviting and tranquil!

If you’re feeling daring, you can even leap from some of the rocky outcrops around the top of the waterfall – but make sure to check how deep it is first! Check with your guide (Another reason why guides are so important) as it may be dry season and the water volume may not be sufficient for a cliff jump.

TRAVELIST TIP: Bring along y our own food and drinks (and make sure to take all your litter with you) as there are usually no vendors or shops around the area.

Can I visit Cunca Wulang and Cunca Rami on the same day in Labuan Bajo?

Yes, you can visit both Cunca Rami and Cunca Wulang on the same day. If you have a private car and driver you’ll be able to customize your day and itinerary. In between, you’ll also find Melo Village (a traditional Indonesian village) which would make a great addition to your Labuan Bajo itinerary and tick off that cultural box too! >> GET YOUR LABUAN BAJO CAR AND DRIVER

3. Explore the Mystical Beauty of Rangko Cave

labuan bajo solo trip

Rangko Cave or Goa Rangko is located on the outskirts of Labuan Bajo and is an incredible example of nature’s artistry. The ancient stalactites and stalagmites, made of colourful minerals, will make you feel like you’ve stepped into an alternate world. In addition to the dazzling rock formations and captivating colours, the mineral content in the water is also so great that you actually can float even more easily!

TRAVELIST TIP: Noon (12PM) is considered the best time to visit – BUT don’t stay for too long unless you have a waterproof torch as the cave does get fairly dark. Equally important to use a guide here as it’s not as well known of a location.

4. Discover the Thrilling Underwater World: Diving in Komodo National Park

labuan bajo solo trip

Komodo National Park is one of the most amazing diving experiences you’ll ever have. The waters are teeming with life and the coral formations are like something out of a storybook, but be sure to bring your underwater camera because this place will leave you speechless.

Diving in Labuan Bajo’s Komodo National Park means spotting things you’d never see anywhere else. From oceanic manta rays to an array of colourful fish species, there will be plenty of things that catch your eye as you explore the depths.

If you’re lucky enough, you may even spot some rare species like whale sharks or giant trevally. There are also plenty of dive spots in Komodo National Park to explore, such as:

  • Castle Rock
  • Manta Point
  • Batu Bolong
  • Crystal Rock

TRAVELIST TIP: For the best diving experience, visit between April and November when the visibility is at its highest. The water is warm and calm, making it an ideal time for beginners and experienced divers alike to explore the many wonders of the depths.

5. Get Up Close with Exotic Marine Life: Snorkelling in Komodo National Park

Head to Kanawa Island for some shallower snorkelling amongst colourful fish, or to Manta Point if you want to spot manta rays swimming by. For a more exciting experience, hop into Turtle Bay where you’ll be sure to find green sea turtles gliding gracefully in the depths below.

BEST KOMODO NATIONAL PARK SNORKELLING LOCATIONS:

  • Kanawa Island
  • Pengah Reef
  • Batu Bolong (only for the experienced snorkeller)
  • Siaba Besar
  • Tatawa Kecil
  • Mawan Island

The dazzling array of life under the surface will take your breath away as schools of silver fish dance around you and brightly coloured corals form intricate patterns in every direction.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: The first time I swam with a school of manta rays, I was absolutely stunned. I’d never seen a creature move so beautifully. They glided through the water effortlessly, their huge wingspan undulating gracefully in the current. As they passed me, I could feel the power and beauty of these majestic creatures. Their silhouettes were strong and beautiful against the light streaming from above and I felt mesmerised by their gracefulness and strength. It was truly one of my most amazing travel moments.

6. Experience the Unique Charm of Labuan Bajo with a Visit to Traditional Indonesian Villages

When visiting Labuan Bajo, there’s no better way to experience classic Indonesian culture than by visiting some of its traditional villages.

Wae Rebo Village

labuan bajo solo trip

One of the most popular is Wae Rebo, an old Manggaraian-style village that has been designated by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site.

Travellers seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure will find nourishment for the soul in Wae Rebo, a unique little village that’s nestled deep within the crater of a long-dormant volcano.

With its conical houses and spectacular mountain views, this hidden destination stands 1,100 meters above sea level – only accessible by car and then on foot with 4 hours from Labuan Bajo or Ruteng followed by 3 to 4 more trekking uphill through dense forests . This is truly one unforgettable experience!

Its unique seven cone-shaped buildings offer a glimpse into traditional things to do in Labuan Bajo. The village is still inhabited by the local community, and visitors can enjoy learning about their customs and traditional activities such as fishing and weaving.

➡️Meet village elders, stay with a local family, and eat homegrown food

➡️Enjoy stunning views on the half-day hike up to the village

➡️Includes meals, accommodation, entrance fees, and private 2-way transfers

Kampung Melo

labuan bajo solo trip

Kampung Melo or Melo Village is another one of the things to do in Labuan Bajo and offers a more modern experience. Here, you can explore its colourful markets, take part in its vibrant festivals, or enjoy some delicious local cuisine.

TRAVELIST TIP: Take the chance to try out ‘sopi’, a local palm wine before witnessing the ‘Caci’ performances. Also important to note is that if you would like to see the Caci Dance, you have to make a reservation and there is a fee for the performance – therefore do this as part of a tour.

The Manggarai of Indonesia possesses a unique cultural tradition in the form of their Caci dance. This whip fight is more than just entertainment, as it serves to express profound philosophical values and beliefs for which this tribe stands. During these events, an entire village unites through joyous chants, songs and bells that bring out life into this communal spectacle!

Todo Village

labuan bajo solo trip

Todo Village is a unique Manggarai settlement located in the Flores region of Indonesia that offers an alternative to Wae Rebo for those with limited time or energy.

Here you can take part in this centuries-old tradition by renting a sarong (Rp 50,000) and exploring the village, but bear in mind houses may be off limits due to local customs and ceremonies – so respect their wishes if you encounter any closures during your visit there.

7. Fall in Love with the View at Bukit Cinta (literally Love Hill)

labuan bajo solo trip

This popular spot is known by many names: Love Hill (Bukit Cinta), Sylvia Hill (Bukit Sylvia), and curiously enough even Teletubbies Hill (Bukit Teletubbies). Despite the name differences, this place has a breathtaking view. Do steer clear however of the resort of the same name Sylvia Resort as that’s obviously private property.

TRAVELIST TIP: I’d advise heading for the buildup to an epic sunset view. The scenery from the top of the hill and the golden hour of the sunset is simply gorgeous.

➡️ BEST OF LABUAN BAJO TOUR: Cunca Wulang Waterfall, Rangko Cave, Mirror Cave, and Sylvia Hill Swim, take photos, watch the sunset – what more could you ask for? >>BOOK IT

The hill itself was not really difficult to hike, it is slightly steep and sandy. I was also advised that it’s a great sunrise spot too!

8. Sip the Sunset and Take in the Views

One of the best (well one of my favourites) things to do in Labuan Bajo is to indulge in a sunset cocktail at one of its many beachfront bars and restaurants – some even provide live music! There’s truly nowhere better (unless you’re referring to Kalong Island) to witness the beauty of nature than by sipping on a refreshing cocktail as the sun slowly sets against the backdrop of a brilliant orange sky, scattered with stars and silhouettes of nearby islands.

  • Atlantis on the Rock
  • Unique Rooftop Bar
  • Paradise Bar

9. Experience the Flavors of Flores and Explore the Vibrant Labuan Bajo Fish Market

labuan bajo solo trip

The Labuan Bajo fish market is a must when visiting this island paradise. Located in the heart of town, it’s a buzz of activity from dawn till dusk. However, if you’re looking to grab a bite, the nightly market starts just around sunset.

Experience a true feast for any seafood fan! Brimming with live lobsters, crabs, shrimps and shellfish caught fresh that day.

With options to grill or cook in curry sauce using BBQ or lemon-garlic ingredients, you’ll find exactly what your taste buds need here; tourists, as well as locals, visit this bustling spot daily so get there early to guarantee yourself some of its delicious delights!

As you make your way through the market, take in the sights, smells and sounds of this vibrant local spot. Stalls are piled high with produce, children playfully running around and vendors shouting out prices for their wares. It’s a great way to experience the cuisines and Labuan Bajo nightlife.

10. Discover the Rich History and Culture of Mesa Village Sea Gypsies

Mesa Village is a small, traditional village in Labuan Bajo that sits atop stilts. It’s an awe-inspiring sight and one of the things that make this unique location stand out amongst other villages in Indonesia.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Daniel Kordan (@danielkordan)

Nestled on Mesa Island, 15 km from Labuan Bajo, lies a unique village home to only 1,500 ‘sea gypsies’. The inhabitants have made an interesting adaptation – avoiding the storage of fresh water so as not to attract mosquitoes. It’s truly remarkable that this tiny seaside community has managed such ingenuity!

This is a great place to visit for travellers looking for an insight into local culture and traditions. Here you can learn about the history of the village, explore its stilted dwellings, chat with the friendly locals and even take part in some traditional dancing!

11. Reflecting Nature’s Beauty: Unveiling the Wonders of Batu Cermin ‘Mirror Rock Cave’

View this post on Instagram A post shared by iffan | Videography & Photography (@iffanshabroni)

A glimmering rock wonder awaits in Labuan Bajo with the Batu Cermin Caves. Located just outside of the city – This is one of the closest Labuan Bajo attractions on this list. This hidden gem’s name derives from Bahasa Indonesian for “Mirror Rock” due to its fascinating crystalline features that reflect and sparkle when exposed to sunlight.

With entrance available between 9 to 10 am near peak sun hours, it is a must-stop destination on any trip through Labuan Baju.

12. Paradise Found: Exploring the Untouched Beauty of Sembilan Island

Visiting Sembilan Island is like entering a paradise – its white and gold sand and shallow crystal-clear waters make it perfect for those who seek the ultimate relaxation experience. It’s pretty much isolated!

View this post on Instagram A post shared by PT. Jelajah Nusantara Wisata (@jenwa_tour)

While small in size, this unpopulated island still offers things to do; from taking leisurely strolls on its sunlit beach (especially for those epic drone shots) to indulging yourself with swimming or snorkelling!

Sembilan Island is a unique destination, formed by dead corals. Despite the uncomfortable walking surface caused by its hard coral features, visitors should not be afraid to venture into this paradise, especially because of its extremely unique natural pool pond!

This pool filled with jellyfish will make you gasp at first sight BUT they have lost their stinging ability over time from lack of predators and now can even be held with your hands (carefully!).

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Halim | Digital Strategiest (@halimbudiono)

The colour blue stands out amongst these creatures that are relatively small but pack quite a punch when observing them up close. It’s one of the most unique things to do in Labuan Bajo even though not too many people even know about it!

Yes, there are shopping options in Labuan Bajo. The town has several markets and shops where visitors can buy souvenirs, local handicrafts, and textiles.

One of the most popular markets is Pasar Senggol, which is located near the harbour. This market offers a variety of goods such as fresh produce, spices, clothing, and souvenirs. Visitors can find unique items such as handmade woven fabrics or wooden carvings.

There are also several gift shops and art galleries in Labuan Bajo that sell locally-made crafts and artwork.

Best time to visit Labuan Bajo?

Ultimately, the best time to visit Labuan Bajo depends on your preferences (We travelled in October) and what you want to experience during your trip. If you’re looking for good weather and plenty of outdoor activities, then visiting during the dry season would be best. But if you don’t mind a bit of rain or are looking for a quieter experience, then travelling during the low season could also be a good option.

The Ultimate Labuan Bajo Low-Down

Labuan Bajo is the gateway to the awe-inspiring Komodo National park. This guide shows you the best things to do in Labuan Bajo, where to stay, and eat before embarking on your Komodo adventure.

Looking for things to do in Labuan Bajo? Of course, you’re coming for Komodo National Park, the snorkeling or diving and the dragons, right? Besides that, we will show you what else do do in Labuan Bajo, where to stay and eat for an unforgettable trip.

Once a sleepy fishing village, Labuan Bajo has emerged as one of Indonesia’s hottest travel destinations in recent years. Sitting on the western edge of Flores Island, the city is the gateway to the spectacular Komodo National Park with its out-of-this-world natural scenery, world-class snorkeling and adventures to suit every traveller out there.

Even with its rise to stardom, Labuan Bajo remains a fishing town at heart and the locals are as friendly and laid back as anywhere else in Indonesia. It’s easy to see why Labuan Bajo is becoming more popular and even better, the region has been named one of Lonely Planet’s best value destinations.

Update : We just returned from our second trip to Labuan Bajo. Sadly, Bajo Tacos has closed down, so no more legit tacos in Labuan Bajo. We’ve updated our post and added a few extra things to do to reflect our most recent visit.

Things to do in Labuan Bajo

Quick Guide to Labuan Bajo

Visited:  January & July Suggested time:  2 days + extra for Komodo Where did we stay:   La Cecile and Golo Hill Top Famous for:  Komodo National Park How to get there:  Several direct flights a day from Bali and Jakarta. If travelling on the Trans-Flores Highway, the most comfortable option is Gunung Mas to Ruteng (4 hours) or Bajawa (8 hours) Tip:  Hire a scooter to get around town if you’re a confident rider. There is no Grab or Gojeg, just informal scooter taxis, so negotiate a price before. Groups can ask their hotel to help arrange a car. Unique experience : Massage at Wae Molas

Golo Hilltop

Where to Stay In Labuan Bajo

Everyone coming to Labuan Bajo is here for Komodo National Park, including us. We spent a total of 4 nights in town and 1 night on an overnight snorkeling trip to Komodo.

We planned to stay two nights to give us time to arrange a boat trip to Komodo, and then return for another two nights to find our land legs again.

We narrowed it down to two places, but just couldn’t choose one, so we decided to split our stay between the two places. (If you’re posh you could call it a “ Twin Center City Break “). In the end, our two choices turned out to be very different, but both were very enjoyable.

Labuan Bajo travel blog

Sitting on the highest point in town, La Cecile probably has one of the best views in Labuan Bajo. Our complimentary pick-up from the airport took us to La Cecile in about 5 minutes and it was love at first sight. The sweeping view down towards town, the boats in the harbour and the islands is spectacular.

The views continue in our room with a balcony. Crisp white bedding and AC complete all our needs for a comfortable stay. The pool overlooking that view is just the place for a refreshing dip or to stare vacantly for some time.

The restaurant at La Cecile does a good job of both Indonesian and Western dishes. The included breakfast comes with many different options and of course, that breakfast view.

Some nights, there is a live band, and sipping on a cold one while the sky sets on fire with some good tunes is just magic. Sunset is quite popular at La Cecile and the atmosphere is fantastic.

Before booking, we were worried that the restaurant might be too noisy or interfere with our privacy at the pool. We are happy to say that our concerns were unfounded. Only guests are allowed in the pool area and the sound from the band doesn’t drift down to the rooms.

If you’re looking for something a little more upscale with fantastic views and great food, look no further than La Cecile.

An old favourite in Labuan Bajo, Golo Hilltop’s garden setting and quiet atmosphere is a great place to relax before or after your island hopping trip to Komodo. The pool here also has a good view over the islands and we really like how you are surrounded by the lush gardens. (We went in January, which is the rainy season, so please don’t be upset when you get there in July and it’s all brown).

The room is comfy and clean, and comes with a fan, AC and a mosquito net. We also like the little fridge in the room. You can tell Golo Hilltop has been around for a while, but we couldn’t really find any fault with it.

A simple breakfast of eggs, bread, fruit, coffee and juice is included and is had overlooking the garden and blue waters behind it.

Golo Hilltop is a solid mid-range option and we did enjoy staying here a lot.

Explore Komodo National Park

Padar island, Komodo

The real reason you come to Labuan Bajo is to explore the awe-inspiring Komodo islands to the west of Flores Island. With some of the best diving and snorkeling on the planet, crystal clear waters, pink beaches and mythical dragons, Komodo is a paradise for adventure lovers.

There are numerous tours to Komodo available in Labuan Bajo and on the internet. Take a stroll along Jalan Soekarno Hatta, the city’s main street to shop for and compare the tours on offer. We didn’t like the idea of joining a tour, so we were looking for a private boat to take us to Komodo.

We chartered a private boat to take us on an overnight snorkeling trip. We did our research and chose the spots we wanted to visit, communicated our needs to several agencies until we found a boat with the right price. Going private was quite affordable and perhaps the best decision we made for visiting Komodo.

Our island hopping trip revolved around snorkeling, chilling, napping, scaling Padar Island for that quintessential Komodo view and spotting dragons on Rinca Island.

If you’re short on time, consider booking this tour on Klook for a speedboat tour of Komodo .

Find the Best Sunset Spots in Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo faces directly west and that makes for spectacular sunsets. Order yourself a drink and watch the sky and water light up in a hundred shades of orange. Here are our favourite places to watch the sunset from:

Sunset in Labuan Bajo seen from La Cecile

La Cecile is not only one of the best hotels in Labuan Bajo, but also one (if not THE best) sunset spot in town.

The views and vibes from here are what sunsets are made for! With live music, cold drinks and happy people, the atmosphere is just so chilled. Everyone is all smiles and radiates good vibes as everything and everyone glows in the last orange light.

It is indeed the golden hour up at La Cecile during sunset.

Green Cherry (Formerly Tree Top)

Sunset in Labuan Bajo at Green Cherry

When we came to Labuan Bajo on our first trip, this great sunset spot right above the harbour was called Tree Top. Tree Top is no more, but instead, you’ll find Green Cherry here now.

It’s still the same location and the same stunning sunsets, just a different name.

Almost on the water overlooking the jetty, Green Cherry is just the place to watch everything turn orange. Watching the boats come in from the islands in that fantastic orange glow is almost therapeutic.

If you want this view every day, you can also stay at Eco Tree O’tel , which Green Cherry is part of.

Paradise bar, Labuan Bajo

Park yourself in the front row seat overlooking the islands and boats, order a cold one and enjoy the beats at Paradise Bar. It is actually a pretty apt name, considering it’s a bar, and well… it’s paradise.

Looking at the size of the bar and the stage, this place might just be a very good party venue. On our visit, it was nice and peaceful. Just how we like it.

Reach Nirvana at Wae Molas Spa

Wae Molas spa, Labuan Bajo

Wae Molas with their magical touch was on top of our to-do list on our second trip to Labuan Bajo. We knew what to expect, and looked forward to lying down on that massage bed to look down into the flower bowl beneath while our therapists made every trouble in the world disappear.

We had one of the best massages ever at Wae Molas after returning from our overnight snorkeling trip on our first visit, and we believe it’s still the best massage in Labuan Bajo.

Nothing says “holiday” and “relax” quite like a good old massage.

You might have to wait a while or return the next day if you didn’t make a reservation. We dropped by in the morning and made a reservation for the afternoon.

The spa is at Wae Molas Hotel , so you could have a drink or relax by the pool before or after your session.

We got the Traditional Full Body Massage for 90 minutes, which costs IDR 235K. People, trust me, it was heaven and we were like putty in their skilful hands.

Find Paradise on Kelor Island

The view from the top of Kelor Island. You can see vibrant blue waters in different shades and boats with mountains in the back

Those who say that you must go into Komodo National Park to see the most beautiful parts of Labuan Bajo are all wrong. They obviously haven’t been Kelor Island.

Stunning Kelor is one of the islands closest to Labuan Bajo, so come here to see the splendour of Komodo without spending hours on a boat.

A short but steep path goes to the top of Kelor Island, from where you’ll get one of the best views in Komodo. We think it’s the most beautiful spot in Komodo after Padar Island.

There are several warungs selling food and cold drinks, beer and coconuts, as well as toilets. You can easily spend a few hours here swimming, eating and relaxing. The clear and shallow water surrounding the island is perfect for dips and swims, but the snorkeling is poor.

Combine Kelor Island with Manjarite Beach (see below) which has great snorkeling for a fantastic half-day trip from Labuan Bajo.

Go Snorkeling at Manjarite

A long wooden jetty leading to Manjarite Beach over turquoise water

If your looking for decent snorkeling near Labuan Bajo, but don’t want to spend all day on a boat to get there, then Manjarite Beach is what you’re looking for.

Under an hour by wooden boat (slow boat) from Labuan Bajo harbour, Manjarite is an incredibly beautiful spot. Manjarite is uninhabited, so there are no facilities. The only way to get there is by renting a boat. Some tours do stop here for snorkeling, but most skip it and motor straight to Komodo.

Snorkeling at Manjarite is pretty decent. Expect to see a lot of hard coral and plenty of small, colorful fish. Manjarite has almost no current and beautiful scenery both above and underwater. Snorkelling here is suitable for all ages and abilities, thanks to the calm and shallow water.

Manjarite is a great spot for those who have visited Komodo already, but still want to do some island hopping and snorkelling without the entire dragon-Padar-Pink Beach -shebang.

We rented a wooden boat for a half-day trip to Manjarite and Kelor Island and paid IDR 1.5 million.

Where to Eat in Labuan Bajo

There are, surprisingly, very good options for eating in Labuan Bajo. Everything from typical Padang food joints to Mediterranean fare. The fresh seafood here is especially good, as you can expect from a fishing town.

Labuan Bajo Fish/Night Market

Fish market in Labuan Bajo

If you’re only having one dinner in Labuan Bajo, let it be at the fish market. The food and atmosphere is something unique to the city.

Officially named Pasar Malam, everyone simply calls it the Night Market or Fish Market. This market is the best place for fresh seafood in town. The stalls are set up around sunset and are popular among local and international tourists alike.

As a good fish market should be, the fresh fish, crabs, lobsters, shells, shrimps, octopus and squid are on display for you to inspect before you choose. (Smell, touch, probe-make sure those gills are fresh and red inside.)

Once you made a choice you can request how you want it prepared. The basic options are either grilled with BBQ or lemon-garlic sauce or cooked as a curry. We went with everything grilled (Bakar) and it was damn good.

You can also order sides such as chicken, rice, veg and drinks. If not getting fresh fruit juice, it’s a good idea to grab your drinks or beers from the shops just across from the stalls.

Happy Banana

Rainbow Poke Bowl at Happy Banana in Labuan Bajo

Happy Banana is the new cool place in town. It used to be Bajo Taco, but that closed down and Happy Banana is now the reigning king of cool.

Happy Banana is definitely not a dull place: pictures of naked women meet the gaze of Ganesh while the plates of food explode with colour and flavour.

On the menu, you’ll find everything healthy and delicious, from sushi, sashimi, poke bowls, quinoa burgers to edamame and falafel. Happy Banana has quickly established itself as the best restaurant in Labuan Bajo for vegans and vegetarians.

I ordered the Rainbow Poke Bowl, which was packed with goodness and colour. It didn’t only look great but tasted dynamite. Jin had the Tuna Tataki with miso mashed potato, which was damn good too.

Jin picks up. a slice of Margherita pizza from Fellas in Labuan Bajo

The best pizza in Labuan Bajo lives at a restaurant called Fellas, and man…are they good?!

Fellas was buzzing with locals and tourists when we arrived, showing that it has indeed dethroned La Cucina (see below) as the best pizza joint in Labuan Bajo.

Owned by the same man behind Baccala, another top-rated restaurant in town- the owner definitely knows what good food is and what makes a good restaurant.

Jin went with her traditional Margherita and I went with the owner’s recommendation – a Rendang pizza. The pizzas at Fellas are medium thickness, with the perfect base-to-topping ratio. My Rendang Pizza had a delightful spicy coconut flavour to the beef. Give it a try when you come.

Fellas open for lunch at 12 pm and closes at 11 pm every day.

A waiter is taking our order at Santeria in Labuan Bajo

We just loved Santeria. It’s laid back, has lovely outside seating, friendly staff and the food was amazing.

We came here for Jin’s birthday dinner, and wanted something special but nothing fancy, and Santeria fit this description perfectly.

It feels much like a local Indonesian Warung, but with a bit of finesse.

The grilled fish was perfect, the nasi goreng was smoky and flavourful, and the kang kung (water spinach) had the perfect balance between spicy and fresh. And of course the Bintangs were cold and served with a smile and a friendly chat.

Definitely pay these guys a visit for their amazing food and vibe.

La Cucina pizza, Labuan Bajo

Another great pizza and pasta place is La Cucina if you’re tired of seafood or nasi goreng , bakso and soto ayam .

We are no Italians or pizza experts, but we can say they have good pizzas (although not as good as Fellas). Their portions are large, and we could probably have shared just one. But we were hungry and fresh off a boat with salt still in our hair, so we went for a Margherita pizza and a calzone.

We have an unwritten rule about not leaving anything behind, so the plates were clean when we left- a sign that the pizza was good indeed.

We also appreciated the AC.

grilled octopus at Baccala in Labuan Bajo

Rated as the number one spot to eat in town, we decided to go check it out. Baccala looks brand new and the staff is all smiles. The food is really good and feels upmarket without being stuck up. This restaurant has. a slight European feel to it in terms of food portions and presentation, but the flavours and atmosphere is 100 % Labuan Bajo.

We had the grilled octopus and barracuda. Both dishes were beautifully presented. We just wish the portions were a little bigger. We had to order some extra roasted potatoes to fill us up.

Hong Signature Restaurant

Dinner at Hong Signature Restaurant in Labuan Bajo

For Chinese -Indonesian fare, Hong Signature Restaurant on Jalan Soekarno Hatta is your place. We had a perfectly grilled fish with spicy mango salsa, sweet and sour prawns and bbq clams. The food was incredible.

You can also find some dim sum on the menu. While the food was amazing, the dessert was disappointing.

beef rendang with boiled casava leaves and rice served on banana leaf

The restaurant at La Cecile, the hotel where we stayed, does some really good food. Going up to La Cecile to catch the sunset and a drink before dinner can make for a good night.

The menu has both Western and Indonesian dishes. We had the rendang and chicken satays which were both really good.

Get Yourself a Scooter

We are riding a scooter in Labuan Bajo

The best way to get around Labuan Bajo, and any other place in Indonesia for that matter, is by renting a scooter. This gives you the freedom to go where you please and it’s no fun walking anywhere in the tropical sun and humidity.

Ask your hotel, they might have scooters for rent. Our hotel was out of bikes, so I went to good old Google and sent a few WhatsApp messages, which also proved unsuccessful. Luckily Jin found a guy on Korean blogs.

Send Made Perama (WhatsApp +62 82144447272) a message about scooter rental. A 125cc goes for IDR 75K per day including helmets. He will come and deliver and collect it again for IDR 30K. All you need is to send him a copy of your passport and he’ll bring your bike to you.

How Many Days in Labuan Bajo

On our first Labuan Bajo trip, we stayed a total of five nights (one night which was on a boat). I actually made a mistake when I booked our plane tickets from Bali .

The plan was to stay in Labuan Bajo for 2 nights to find a boat charter to take us to the Komodo islands. After returning from our boat trip, we stayed one night before returning to Bali, making it 3 nights in town and 1 night on the boat.

But I made a fortunate mistake and booked the return to Bali one day later than planned. This turned out to be perfect. It was nice to simply relax by the pool and find our land feet again.

For our second trip, we stayed in Labuan Bajo for three nights, which was just great. Because we visited Komodo National Park before, we spent three days in Labuan Bajo with only a half-day trip to Kelor and Manjarite.

We suggest a minimum of three nights to make the best of your time in Labuan Bajo.

When is the Best Time to Visit Labuan Bajo

Komodo National Park in the rainy season

We visited Labuan Bajo in January (height of the rainy / low season), and July (dry/ peak season). Both visits were very enjoyable, so any time is as good as the other. Keep the following in mind:

  • Rainy Season (November – March): Rainy season was humid AF and hot, with rain every day. The landscape was lush and green. Rain fell mainly at night, so it did not have a negative effect on our travel plans. Snorkeling was good, but the visibility was not as good as in the dry season. Sunsets were roughly 250 times better for us in the rainy season. Low season meant it was not busy at all and reduced prices for accommodation.
  • Dry Season (April -October): Cool and dry weather, perfect for walking around, hiking and being active. Rain is very unlikely, so you’re in for lots of sunny days. The landscape was turning yellow-brown on the islands, but the gardens were still pretty and green in town. Peak season means it is busy (but not crowded). Lots of tours and activities on offer. Diving and snorkelling are top-notch in the dry season with fantastic visibility. Hardcore divers and snorkelers will want to come in the dry

How to Get to Labuan Bajo

Most of you will fly to Labuan Bajo Komodo Airport (LBJ).

Flights: Garuda, Batik, Citilink, NAM Air, Air Asia and Super Jet have direct flights daily from Jakarta and Bali. Wings Air flies to Bajawa, Ende and Maumere on Flores Island on propeller planes.

When searching for domestic flights in Indonesia, use Tiket , an Indonesian flight search engine. You won’t find many domestic flights on Skyscanner and the like, except for Air Asia and maybe Garuda. The other Indonesian airlines simply don’t exist there. We flew with Batik from Jakarta (2.5 hours), and NAM Air from Denpasar Bali (1 hour).

Overland: After visiting Labuan Bajo, we travelled east on Flores Island to Ende. The first step is from Labuan Bajo to Ruteng , which takes about 3.5 hours and costs IDR 160K.

The best way to travel from Labuan Bajo to Ruteng or Bajawa is Gunung Mas, a comfortable minibus with individual seats. Ask your hotel to make a reservation for you, and Gunung Mas will come and pick you up from your hotel.

Thanks for this great read. May I ask when you were there if there were concerns about malaria? Wanting to go but I have a 3 year old I don’t want to put at risk.

Hi Mands, We were there in February, and took no anti-malaria tablets. However, malaria is prevalent in the entire Indonesia. We’ve never heard of anyone catching it Indonesia, though. Going with kids is a completely different story. You’d better ask a doctor, malaria expert or someone more knowledgeable on the topic than us.

Great write up. Looked like a great trip, including the extra day Thanks for sharing.

Glad you liked it April. We are heading back to Labuan Bajo this summer and will update where necessary. I think I booked the right dates this time so should only be there for 3 days 😝

Hello, I will go at the end of January to labuanbajo. Are labuanbajo cruises to lombok operational at this season? Thank you so much

Hi Philip, January is the rainy season, and as far as we know, the tourist cruises between Lombok and Labuan Bajo are not running. The public ferries run yearround, though. It’s best to find these tourist cruises online and ask them directly whether they are operating in January.

I will be in Labuan Bajo in early November. Since you mention eating (cooked) fish, curries, rice dishes, etc. and drinking fresh fruit juices (made with water/ice), the question that comes to my mind is: did you encounter any digestive issues (troubles)? I’ve traveled a bit in Asia (Singapore, Hong, Kong, Tokyo) and never encountered issues, but I did (badly) in India and Mexico, so I’m not immune yet also not easily susceptible. Did you take any precautions while eating through Labuan Bajo (and Bali for that matter)? What advice can you give about eating out there? Thanks.

Hi Stefan, We were just in Labuan Bajo again last week and ate well with no problems. We’ve been to Indonesia 8 times and never had issues (touch wood).

When eating at the night market, inspect , smell and touch the seafood to make sure it’s fresh. Ice in drinks should be fine.

We don’t have any real advice on how to avoid getting sick, as this can happen any time or place and there is nothing you can do about it.

We are going to Bali in November, and now planning to fly over to Flores for 3 nights (2.5 days) to see a different part of Indonesia. Is the first week in November a good time to go, or would you recommend maybe waiting for another time.

Hi Ness, The weather is always unpredictable. Early November might be hot and humid with some some rain – but then it is the weather so no one knows what it will be like.

We visited Labuan Bajo in February (height of the rainy season) and in July (dry season). Both times were very enjoyable.

For the casual visitor anytime is as god as the other.

Labuan Bajo is a great addition to Bali

Great article and super useful information, thank you! For a solo traveler who doesn’t ride a scooter, how would I get around the island? My main interest is the 3D2N boat trip to Komodo island, but of course would love to explore a bit of LBJ while I’m there anyway. The town itself is pretty small and walkable, right?

Hi Katie, if you’re staying along (or near) Jalan Soekarno Hatta – the main street in Labuan Bajo, you’ll be fine with walking. Most of the restaurants and travel agents are along this stretch. If you need wheels, ask your hotel to arrange a ojek (motorbike with driver and you sit at the back) for you.

15 Unforgettable Things to do in Labuan Bajo. Don’t Miss No. 14

' src=

  • Pinterest 130

Labuan Bajo, Flores, is located in a half moon bay surrounded by hills that rise steeply from the shore. The setting is picturesque with breathtaking views at sunset. You won’t be surprised when I tell you that Labuan Bajo is one of my favourite towns in Indonesia. It’s why we started offering tours here  (I’m secretly looking for an excuse to move here part of the year).

To help you make the most of your trip to Labuan Bajo I’ve made a list of 15 things to do. We’ll start the list with the essential guide of things to do in the city, before sharing other ideas for things to do around the town with you. Oh, and in case you missed it, I’ve already made an article on the best places to stay in the town . Let’s get started!

4 of the Best Things to do in Labuan Bajo

1. trek through the forests of komodo.

Most tourists looking for things to do in Flores  come to visit the island of Komodo, home to the famous Komodo dragons. To see the Komodo dragons you will have to join a Komodo Island tour with one of the rangers. There are a number of set hikes to choose from ranging from the short hikes, which take 20-30 minutes, to overnight hikes where you get to camp on the island. The best time to visit the island of Komodo is in the early afternoon when the big Komodo dragons are sitting lazily in the shade and the baby dragons are wandering through the wilderness.

2. Take an Instagram Selfie on Padar Island

Padar Island is in my opinion the natural highlight of the Komodo islands. The island is famous for the viewpoint from where you can see the three beaches of Padar Island (one is white, one is pink and the other is a black sand beach). The best time to do the climb is in the early morning for sunrise. Be warned there are Komodo dragons on the island and they hang around in the shade of the rocks (which is where you will want to be).

3. Swim with Mantas at Manta Point

Manta Point is one of the most famous sites for diving near Labuan Bajo. This is the place where I met turtles talking to manta rays… But more seriously it is one of the best Komodo Island diving sites. The reason Manta Point is so popular is the strong nutrient rich current that flows through the strait that attracts large schools of Manta Rays. Manta Point is recommended for divers who have experience with drift dives.

4. Join a Live Aboard Tour

If you are wondering what to do in Labuan Bajo then I would recommend joining a live aboard boat tour around the Komodo islands. There are a number of different options available depending on your budget and interests. If you are only visiting Labuan Bajo for a short stay then I would recommend a 3 day 2 night boat trip . This will give you the chance to visit Komodo Island, swim at the Pink Beach, hike Padar Island and more. There are live aboard packages that fit most budgets. You can book a cabin on a boat in Labuan Bajo.

Fun Ideas for Things to do in Labuan Bajo

5. choose a hotel with a view.

One of my favorite things about Labuan Bajo is the view you get overlooking the harbor at sunrise and sunset. Watching the colors of the bay change from orange through to red and purple (or the other way round) is just amazing. So when you visit Labuan Bajo, please, please, please book a hotel on the hill with a good view. There are a couple of great places to choose from. A few choices I recommend include Sunset Hill Hotel (the name is a giveaway), Green Hill Boutique Hotel and Golo Hilltop . You can thank me later.

6. Snorkel at the Pink Beach, Komodo

Komodo is the largest of the 27 islands in the Komodo National Park and there are a lot of things to do on Komodo. After seeing the Komodo dragons the next activity on most Komodo Island tours is a visit to the Pink Beach. The beach gets its name from the red grains of sand, which is created from the grains brightly coloured coral, that give the Pink Beach its distinctive colour. Alongside taking photos of the beach you can also go snorkelling through the coral reefs that are located just offshore. It’s a beautiful place to swim through and explore, but watch out for the strong offshore currents. You can find more information about the beach here .

View this post on Instagram I am in Labuan Bajo now and have spent 2 days exploring the area. Went to Gua Rangko earlier today and it was amazing! . . Btw, this picture was taken at Amelia Sea View in Labuan Bajo by @lostpacker. The view is just lovely. 😍 Check out @lostpacker and @skyscannerindonesia page to see more updates about this trip. ❤ For more live fun 10 seconds videos, add me on Snapchat: @firstadyi. 👻 #LabuanBajo #Flores #Indonesia #Travel #Island #Beach #Ocean A post shared by firsta ♡ (@hellofirsta) on Jun 12, 2016 at 7:08am PDT

7. Watch the Sunset at Amelia Sea View

Amelia Sea View is a famous viewpoint outside of Labuan Bajo. The hill overlooks a bay on the opposite side of Labuan Bajo. There are no hotel developments yet on this part of the island. This means beautiful views overlooking rolling green grassland with palm trees. It’s a beautiful setting and a nice thing to do in Labuan Bajo for sunrise. Update: There is a hotel here, Sylvia Resort. If you walk 5~10 min from the hotel, you will find the Amelia Sea View.

8. Discover the Komodos of Rinca Island

Rinca Island is actually the best place to see Komodo dragons. Like Komodo, if you want to see the Komodo Dragons you can join a hike around the island. The hikes are a lot shorter than on Komodo Island, because the island is a lot smaller. While there is a small chance to see the Komodo Dragon on a hike around Rinca, you are almost certain to see the dragons by the ranger station. The Komodo Dragons hang around in groups around the kitchen.

9. Enjoy a Beer at Paradise Bar

The Paradise Bar is a chilled out reggae bar with beautiful views overlooking Labuan Bajo bay and looking out over the ocean. The bar gets busy with tourists at sunset. In the evening a live band plays covers of famous songs. When I visited there was a nice mix of locals and tourists, which helped to give the bar a nice atmosphere. The food at the bar is nothing special, so I recommend eating at the fish market before or after you visit, but their beers are cold.

10. Take a Speed Boat Tour of Komodo

If you have a very short amount of time in Labuan Bajo, but you want to see a lot while you are there you can hire a speedboat in Labuan Bajo. The cost of a speedboat with fuel starts at around Rp 10,000,000 a day, which is quite expensive. You can visit up to four sites on a speedboat tour of the Komodo islands. For instance, you can watch sunrise from Padar Island, visit Rinca Island for the Komodo dragons, go snorkelling at the Pink Beach and go diving (or snorkelling) at Manta Point.

11. Eat at the Fish Market

There are a lot of really nice places to eat in Labuan Bajo, but if you want to eat freshly caught fish served with delicious sauces then I would recommend visiting the fish market in Labuan Bajo. The market is located along the seafront of Labuan Bajo on the outskirts of Labuan Bajo. The food here is really delicious and there’s an interesting mix of people (you’ll find a mix of expats, backpackers and locals).

12. Go Caving at Batu Cermin

The Batu Cermin Cave is one of the few tourist attractions in Labuan Bajo that is actually close to the city. The caves are located in a natural canyon between steep cliffs. The highlight of the site is the Batu Cermin caves, which means Mirror Rock caves in Indonesian. The caves get this name, because of the crystals in the rock that reflect the sunlight. The best time to visit the caves is between 9-10 in the morning when the sun comes through a hole in the rock illuminating the crystals.

13. Swim in the Underground Lake at Rangko Cave

Rangko Cave was one of my favourite places to visit near Labuan Bajo. The cave is filled with clear brackish water and it’s possible to go swimming in the cave. At about lunch time the sun shines directly into the cave lighting it up and reflecting off the water. To reach the cave you need to take a one hour drive from Labuan Bajo to a small village. From the village it’s a 10 minute boat ride to an isolated beach and then a five minute hike uphill to the cave. When I visited I spent one hour swimming around the cave with a torch. It was a really interesting place to explore.

14. Trek to Cunca Rami Waterfall

15. enjoy a night on kanawa island.

Kanawa is a resort island. The setting is beautiful with thatched huts to stay in, coral reefs close to shore a wooden pier that stretches out into the ocean. I really loved Kanawa the first time I visited the island. Unfortunately, Kanawa has lost its soul and is in desperate need of investment. The food is poor quality and overpriced. There were no guests when I visited (which really wasn’t a surprise). I hope things change, because Kanawa has so much potential for tourism.

Final Thoughts

I hope that some of these ideas give you inspiration for your trip to Labuan Bajo. Other things that I wanted to add are visiting and Eexperiencing local culture at Melo Village (Manggarai people). Please note that if you would like to see the Caci Dance, you have to make a reservation and there is a fee for the performance. During your Komodo sailing trip, your program also include a visit to Kalong Island for bats watching.

With so many possibilities for things to do in Labuan Bajo there’s lot of potential for a great holiday here. Sure you can start with the Komodo Dragons, but make sure not to miss some of the other highlights like sunrise from the viewpoint on Padar Island. I promise you’ll remember them for long after your holiday!

There are plenty on the Komodo street (the main street). Should go there to check it out 😉

' src=

I’ve managed to do just a few on this list – I loved the manta point, although I was too scared to go in. Rinca Island was also where I saw the most komodo dragons!

High five Lily. That’s good going 🙂 Yeah, the currents at Manta Point can be really strong.

Hi there! Love the article – found it cos we’re considering this for our next vacay. How many days would you say is good (and sufficient) to spend here?

Hi Ann. I’d recommend spending at least 3 days around Labuan Bajo if you are planning to head to the Komodo National Park.

Thank you so much for your help!

' src=

Hi Firsta Is it possible to rent a scooter in lbj and ride to kelimutu? Cheers for your input

Hi Aaron. It should be possible, but I’d recommend a bike with a big engine though as the interior of Flores is very hilly and a small scooter will struggle.

Hi.. nice blog u hve it here.. I’ll b going to Bajo for boat sailing trip to Komodo & Padar for 2-3 days..What would u suggest? Any boat tour names ?

Hi Zetty. Unfortunately I don’t have any recommendations for Flores at the moment. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Hi Fista, I seeking advise arriaval 9am (wing air) or 12.25pm (garuda) will make big different to my trip at Flores. I will visit Sun – Thur (depart 12.50pm). Am i in the position too little time if I arrival 12.20pm? I wont stay over night at the boat because I am visit Mid Jan.

Hi Angela. I’d recommend a morning flight as this will give you more time to make your arrangements. If you arrange your itinerary ahead of time though the 12:25 flight with Garuda would be fine. Hope that helps.

Hi Firsta, thank you for your helpful site. I will be in Labuan Bajo for a week in early November and I am wondering whether I should spend all my time in that area, or perhaps try to get to somewhere such as Ende for a day or two. What are your thoughts?

Hi Kym. Glad you are finding the site useful. I think that’s a good idea. I’d recommend checking out Wae Rebo Village. You can find out about it and other things to do in Flores here .

Thanks Firsta. I also appreciate your advice about Jakarta. I’m there for a few days as well.

Friesta What is the site we can visit outside labuan Bajo especially for local custom ? Can we rent a car ? do you have the information for local people We had been in Komodo island some years ago , lake kalimutu via Ende last year

Hi Herman, you can visit Wae Rebo, and Bena traditional village.

' src=

hi, thanks for the great information. Can youplease advise what it is like at LB at Christmas / New Year? particularly will the water be clear for snorkelling and if is out of season, will the town be ‘dead’ I don’t need crazy nightlife, just somewhere a bit lively and solo traveller, not too honeymooney

Dear Elise,

Labuan Bajo should be quite festive for the Christmas and New Year. I haven’t experienced the New Year there, but Labuan Bajo is pretty busy and there are few bars. Try the Paradise Bar close to sunset time. It is one of the best spots to see sunset. Hope you have a great time in Indonesia. December is a high season in Labuan Bajo and snorkeling or water activities should be ok.

' src=

Hi, please advise me, how long i have to stay, to visit all your recomendation. No need rush, but also don’t want too long. Thanks

Maybe a week would be sufficient.

Indonesia Travel Guide

The Ultimate Guide to your Labuan Bajo Trip

Here is the ultimate guide to Labuan Bajo, a hidden gem and gateway to wild nature in Indonesia. This place has been one of the Top 5 Super Priority tourism destinations since July 2019. With several exotic islands in the middle of the high seas, you enjoy various natural beauties, such as the Komodo dragons on Rinca Island or Komodo Island, underwater biodiversity, and fantastic beaches.

Labuan Bajo has become a popular tourist destination in recent years, attracting visitors from all over the world. The town offers a range of accommodation options, from budget guesthouses to luxury resorts, and has a variety of restaurants, bars, and shops to cater to tourists’ needs.

Where is Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo is located at the western end of the large island of Flores in the Nusa Tenggara region of eastern Indonesia. It is the capital of the West Manggarai Regency, the major administrative division of Flores. It is situated in the Lesser Sunda Islands, between the islands of Sumbawa to the west and Timor to the east. Labuan Bajo is approximately 664 kilometers (413 miles) east of Bali, one of Indonesia’s most well-known tourist destinations.

It is the gateway to the famous Komodo National Park , a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its stunning natural beauty and vibrant marine life.

Why visit Labuan Bajo

You should visit Labuan Bajo not only for the famous Komodo Dragon or the sea view, which are plenty of good reasons. You should also visit for its natural beauties, such as waterfalls, caves, and hills, and the cultural experiences with the locals.

One of the main attractions near Labuan Bajo is Komodo National Park, home to the famous Komodo dragons, the world’s largest lizards. Other natural wonders surround Labuan Bajo. Nearby, you can find the mesmerizing Padar Island, with its distinct hills and breathtaking viewpoints, and the beautiful Pink Beach, named for its pink-colored sand.

Overall, Labuan Bajo is a paradise for nature lovers, offering a mix of stunning landscapes, unique wildlife, and unforgettable experiences that make it a must-visit destination in Indonesia.

When is the best time to visit Labuan Bajo

Every season is the best time to go! You can go visit Labuan Bajo anytime. Why? Because nature in Labuan Bajo will show its beauty each season with different colors and vibes. Here is the information for each season:

From November to February, it is the rainy season in Labuan Bajo. You can enjoy the sailing trip even with cool, windy, and wet conditions; it doesn’t rain every day! You can ask the hotel or trip agency if it’s possible to make a sailing trip that day. They will inform you directly if you can go sailing or not. Bringing your raincoat or an umbrella in case of rain is advisable. If you’re lucky, you could get a good picture of the green grass at Padar Island.

When to visit labuan bajo, flores

From March to August , it is summer in Labuan Bajo. You can enjoy the sailing trip while enjoying the summer breeze there. It is a perfect time to sail if you love summer that much. Many tourists from abroad have vacationed in Labuan Bajo these months. Don’t forget to apply your sunscreen while sailing! The sunburn in Labuan Bajo is something. The locals said there are seven suns in Labuan Bajo. Can you imagine how hot that is?!

From September to October , it is the changing season in Labuan Bajo. You can see the grass turning brown and dry. If you want to take pictures with an aesthetic background, this season is the right time to visit Labuan Bajo. But don’t forget to bring your umbrella and sunscreen to be prepared for the season! It can be rainy or dry.

Labuan Bajo Attractions

Besides Komodo dragons, the iconic tourist attraction in Labuan Bajo is Padar Island. You must hike 700-800 stairs to the top to reach the perfect view.

Then the other islands are Kanawa Island to snorkel around the beach, snorkel in the middle of the sea to spot Manta Rays fish, the iconic Pink Beach , and the super small island with white sand, Takka Makassar; last but not least, Komodo dragons at Komodo Island. However, remember that even when you see Komodo, even if a guide accompanies you, you must still be careful.

Another highlight of Labuan Bajo for its land experience is you can communicate directly with the locals and visit several tourist attractions such as Melo Village , Cunca Wulang Waterfall, Sylvia Hills, Marina Bay, Rangko Cave & Batu Cermin Cave .

Things to Do in Labuan Bajo

Island hopping.

Island hopping around Labuan Bajo is the main activity for your itinerary. You must wake up early because the travel agent will pick you up by car or hi-ace at around 6 to 7 am and drive you to the port. You can choose whether you want to explore the island in private with your friends or join the trip with other tourists, where you might meet new adventurous friends with different nationalities from the trip!

Visit Padar Island

Usually, the first place you will visit is Padar Island . You have to wear comfortable or suitable shoes to hike the island. There are five posts until the top; you will see the panoramic views from each post from the bottom to the top. I recommend you hike until post 4 because it is the best post to take pictures of the whole Padar Island landscape.

Meet Komodo Dragons

Next, you will visit Komodo Island to meet the Komodo dragons living there. Of course, a Komodo Ranger will guide you along the tour. They will tell you the Komodo dragons’ story and help you find the Komodo. Komodo dragons are very sensitive to the smell of blood; if you are a woman in menstruation, you better stay at the local food stalls or shops to avoid the Komodo dragon’s aggressive reaction.

Marvel at Pink Beach

After that, you will visit Pink Beach, which is unique for its pink-colored sand because of the coral shards. You can snorkel to meet Manta Rays and also Kanawa Island .

You can take the Laprima airport shuttle to check in to the hotel or take taxis if you book other hotels. Labuan Bajo has no such thing as Uber or Grab for transportation except for food delivery. So, you have to be careful in choosing your taxis.

Labuan Bajo

A Perfect Getaway for Adventurers

On the westernmost tip of the Island of Flores sits the town of Labuan Bajo. It lies peacefully, with many wonders waiting for you to explore. Labuan Bajo was only a small fishing site, but flourished to become the gateway to many exotic destinations in East Nusa Tenggara.

A Perfect Getaway for Adventurers

The Port to Paradise

The extraordinary interest among travelers lies in Komodo Dragons or locally called ora. It is a valuable alluring factor, showcased in its superb national park.

The Komodo National Park was listed as UNESCO’s World Heritage Site in 1991. Both on land and underwater, it is home to fascinating wildlife.  The park consists of Komodo Island, Rinca Island, Padar Island, and numerous smaller islands around.

Labuan Bajo is known as the city of sunset. You can find plenty of out-of-this-world scenic views of the spectacular sky.

A Perfect Getaway for Adventurers

There are some interesting destinations that you can discover inside the city. The Mirror Cave is located only 4 kilometers away from Labuan Bajo. It is said that Dutch archaeologist, Theodor Verhoeven,, who believed Labuan Bajo was once located underwater, founded this cave in 1951. The local name for the cave is Goa Batu Cermin. You can see the reflective stones shine at you in some parts, hence, the name “Goa Batu Cermin.” It translates to “stone mirror cave.”

Have you ever swam in a cave-lake before? Here’s a chance to try it in Rangko Cave. Nestled in Ranko Village, this natural wonder presents its blue water and sunlight shining directly towards its cave lake. Their stalagmites will surely amaze you as well.

You can also explore the paths to Cunca Rami and Cunca Wulang canyon waterfall!

Bukit Cinta, Puncak Amelia, and Puncak Silvia are all vantage points, not far away from Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo. You can enjoy some spectacular views of the island and the open sea at sunset.

A Perfect Getaway for Adventurers

You can head to Kampung Ujung and experience the delicious local food center in Labuan Bajo for the culinary feast.

Feel the romance with its stunning landscapes. Wooden cottages with thatched roofs are camouflaged by shrubberies and towering trees up in the sloping township. They overlook an idyllic harbor, creating perfect elements of an unforgettable experience.

Labuan Bajo can be that ideal getaway with choices of land and sea to explore for some adventurers. Try the liveaboard experience, where you get to live onboard the spectacular phinisi boats for several days, visit gorgeous islands and dive into the stunning wonders of the sea.

One of the most famous islands to visit during your liveaboard trip is Padar Island. With its outstanding panorama, Padar Island is swiftly becoming a new favorite place for travelers. It showcases rolling hills and rugged volcanic mountains. With its grassland and trees covering its terrace, Padar Island boasts its striking savanna hill.

The City of Sunset

There are three majorities of ethnic groups, namely the Manggarai, Bima, and Bugis. People coming from other parts of Flores, like Ende, Ngada, Maumere, live side by side with them. You can meet some of the locals in their beautiful village of Labuan Bajo.

Welcoming ceremonies and traditional dances will greet you warmly upon your visit to Melo Village. Located in West Manggarai, it is located around 40 km from the heart of Labuan Bajo. Don’t forget to stop by and get to know them!

If you are looking for places to stay, stroll along the Wae Cicu beach, where lines of hotels and resorts are available, overlooking the best view.

You can also find amazing accommodation on nearby islands, like on Bidadari or Seraya.

Labuan Bajo is accessible by air, land, and sea. It’s a favorable location as an entry port to Komodo National Park. These are three ways you can reach this paradise:

You can reach Labuan Bajo from Komodo Airport. For direct flights, Transnusa Airlines is your best option. It connects to several major cities, including Denpasar, Kupang, Ende, and Mataram. With connecting flights, Labuan Bajo is also connected with Kalabahi in Alor. It also connects Bajawa, Sikka, Manggarai, and Larantuka via Ende, Kupang, Maumere, Ruteng, and Tambolaka. Please go to its website for more detailed flight schedules.

An overland trip across the Island of Flores is possible but costly. It connects Labuan Bajo in the westernmost area to its eastern part.

A bus from Denpasar, Bali will take you to a long overland adventure on the bus to Bima, Sumbawa. In Bima, you will resume Sape. There you can take a ferry to  Labuan Bajo.

A convenient option is joining liveaboards, serving Komodo and Flores. It benefits the traveler’s timing and best spots, depending on the tour package.

There are several schedules for a ship to depart to Labuan Bajo. Tilongkabila ship from PELNI cruises from Makassar in South Sulawesi to Labuan Bajo. The Leuser ship departs from Tanjung Perak, Surabaya in East Java. From Benoa seaport in Bali, you can also take the Leuser to get to Labuan Bajo.

Wilis ship departs from Makassar, and takes you from Larantuka in East Flores to Labuan Bajo. Please refer to the PELNI website for detailed information and updates.

There are different options for you to get around Labuan Bajo. They are: ojek (motor taxis), travel agency cars, buses, and bemos (rented local vans with a guide-driver).

Make sure you check from official sources to rent cars or local guides. You can also find information from your hotel about the best way to get around.

11 Cool Things to Do in Labuan Bajo & Practical Tips

Everything you need to know to plan your trip to labuan bajo and the komodo islands.

11 Cool Things to Do in Labuan Bajo & Practical Tips

Most people know Labuan Bajo as the small fishing village that’s the gateway to Komodo National Park. So they tend to come for a Komodo boat tour, and fly out immediately after their cruise.

We’d recommend spending at least a week in Labuan Bajo (or even two weeks!), so that you can explore Labuan Bajo and its surroundings more. You’ll be rewarded with incredibly rich culture, great hidden caves and even a tri-coloured volcano!

Cool Things to Do Around Labuan Bajo

1. komodo islands boat trip .

See epic landscapes, surreal pink beaches and wild dragons at Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park is one of our favourite places in the world, and feels like it comes right out of Game of Thrones. The national park is not one island, but 29 islands in total. At the islands, you’ll see ancient Komodo dragons, chill on pink beaches, hike epic viewpoints, and snorkel with giant turtles and manta rays.

To visit the park, you'll need to take boat tour from Labuan Bajo to the main islands such as Rinca Island / Komodo Island, Padar Island, Kalong Island and Makassar Island. You can either do a full day speedboat tour that covers 6 islands, or a 2-3 days’ liveaboard boat trip that covers 5-8 islands.

Time required: 1-3 days.

2. Diving in Komodo National Park

Dive with Manta Rays, Sharks, Turtles and more at Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park is one of the best places to dive in the world. You get to see the most beautiful coral walls, sharks, mantas, turtles and so much more here. And the best thing about diving at Komodo is: whether you’re a complete beginner (i.e. no diving licence) or are an advanced diver, there’s a dive spot for you here!

3. Rangko Cave

Swim in this surreal underground lake at Rangko Cave

Rangko Cave is a hidden underground lake with crystal clear waters in gorgeous turquoise, surrounded by towering limestone stalagmites. We love the experience of swimming in the cave as it’s just incredibly secluded and peaceful. It’s perfect for photography and just getting away from the bustle of Komodo.

Time required: 3-4 hours.

4. Batu Cermin

You'll need to duck crawl through some of the complex tunnels at Batu Cermin but that's part of the fun!

Batu Cermin is another cool cave that is surprisingly not crowded at all. Its name means mirror stone cave because the limestone walls glitter when exposed to light. There’s no swimming here but there’s a complex tunnel system that requires you to duck crawl through in certain areas! (Hard hats are provided so don't worry!). Visit Batu Cermin with Rangko Cave and Sylvia Hill for a full day trip !

5. Sylvia Hill

Sylvia Hill is Labuan Bajo's best kept secret for sunset watching!

Sylvia Hill is the best kept secret for gorgeous sunsets in Labuan Bajo! The hilltop offers a stunning view of upside down hills (that look like blobby Teletubbies), the sea and surrounding islands. It’s also pretty undiscovered, so you’ll usually have the hill all to yourself for sunset!

Time required: 1 hour

6. Melo Village

Come to Melo Village for a glimpse into the culture of the local Manggarai people.

If you want to experience local culture when you’re in Labuan Bajo, head to Melo Village for a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the Manggarai people. Here, you can witness the traditional way of life, learn about their customs, and engage with the warm and friendly locals. The opportunity to watch the Caci dance, a traditional martial arts dance unique to the region, adds an extra layer of cultural immersion to the experience.

7. Cunca Wulang waterfalls

See the crystal clear waters at Cunca Wulang waterfalls

If you're headed to Melo Village, pair your trip with a visit to Cunca Wulang waterfalls ! These cascading waterfalls are hidden in a tropical forest and have crystal clear waters that flow into meandering rivers. The short hike to the waterfalls is really fun, with the opportunity to jump off rocks and swim in the beautiful canyon.

Time required: 2-3 hours.

8. Visit the Fish Night Market

Visit the night fish market for fresh BBQ seafood

The Fish Market is on the edge of Labuan Bajo town, a short 10-15 walk from the harbour. This is a pretty small market with only several stalls, and is primarily catered for tourists. It is also not cheap by any means (we spent SGD $20 per person!). But the food here is yummy and fresh!

Time required: 1 hour. Opens at sunset.

9. Enjoy rooftop drinks at Seaesta

Come to the prettiest rooftop in Labuan Bajo for drinks!

Seaesta is a very pretty Greek-style (think Mama Mia vibes!) boutique hostel in the heart of Labuan Bajo, and is also the party central in this sleepy fishing town. There is live music on its chic rooftop on the weekends, so just pop by and enjoy the party vibes with a cocktail or a Bintang beer!

Road Trip Beyond Labuan Bajo

1. wae rebo.

Go back in time to visit remote Wae Rebo, a gorgeous traditional village not accessible by roads.

Wae Rebo is a remote Mangarrai village, with iconic cone-shaped traditional houses. Getting there feels like you’re on an adventure to a remote shire in Lord of the Rings. There are no roads into the village. You’ll need to drive 5-6 hours from Labuan Bajo, then hike 3-4 hours to the village from the closest road.

This isn’t an adventure for the faint-hearted - but if you really want to see the real Flores, this is it. You’ll need to spend at least a night in the village, and you’ll have a story to tell for life.

Time required: 2 days

2. Transflores road trip to Kelimutu

Drive to the heart of Flores Island with spiderweb rice fields, tri-coloured volcanoes and traditional villages.

One of the most iconic road trips in Indonesia is this road trip into the heart of Flores island . You’ll see traditional villages, one-of-a-kind rice fields shaped like spiderwebs in Ruteng, and end at Kelimutu , a volcano with three crater lakes of different colours. Life moves much more slowly in Flores and you’ll get a welcome respite from city life. Even Labuan Bajo will feel hectic compared to the rest of Flores!

This is not for everyone, but if you like seeing places that few other travellers will ever get to see and experience authentic Indonesia culture, you should definitely do this. We're still craving the incredibly yummy babi sei we had during our road trip!

Time required: 4-5 days.

Practical Tips

1. best time to go .

Chances are you’re visiting Labuan Bajo because of Komodo National Park. If so, you’d want to avoid January to March which is rainy season, and where few boats will go out due to the risk of capsizing. The only boat trips that tend to go out during rainy season are the 1 day speedboat trips, and even those sometimes get cancelled.

Try to also avoid Indonesia public holidays when Komodo National Park will be crazy packed.

2. Getting to Labuan Bajo

  • By Flight: You’ll need to fly into Komodo airport in Labuan Bajo. There are multiple direct flights a day from Bali and Jakarta, 1.5-2.5 hours’ flight time depending on where you fly in from. Word is that direct flights will start from Singapore sometime in 2024!
  • By Boat: There's no boat from Bali to Labuan Bajo, but you can take a boat trip from Lombok to Labuan Bajo via the Komodo Islands.

3. Getting Around

  • From Airport to Town: Komodo airport is about 15 minutes drive from Labuan Bajo town centre, and you can easily get a taxi, motorbike or scooter from the airport.
  • Around Town: Getting around Labuan Bajo town is easy. Labuan Bajo is a small town so unless you’re staying in the Plataran or the Ayana Komodo which are further out of town, you can basically walk everywhere (e.g. the fish market, the main harbour, the main street) in 20-30 minutes.

3. Planning Your Itinerary

If you’re coming to Labuan Bajo from Singapore / outside of Indonesia, we’d recommend spending at least a week in Labuan Bajo .

With one week, you’ll get to see Komodo National Park and some of Labuan Bajo. With two weeks, you’ll get to see the rest of Flores Island, including the iconic tri-coloured Kelimutu volcano .

If you only have a week:

  • Day 0: Arrive at Labuan Bajo
  • Day 1-3: Spend 3 days 2 nights on an island hopping trip around Komodo National Park.
  • Day 4: Try diving ! Honestly one of the best things you can do in Komodo.
  • Day 5: Day trip in Labuan Bajo to see Rangko Cave, Batu Cermin and Sylvia Hill for the views. Or visit Melo village if you prefer culture.
  • Day 6: Fly out.

If you have 2 weeks, you can do the itinerary above, plus a 4-5 days road trip across Flores to Kelimutu volcano. If you’re feeling super adventurous, you can also do a 2 day trip to Wae Rebo after Labuan Bajo.

Top Tip: You’ll need to arrive in Labuan Bajo one day before the boat trip because flights arrive in the late morning, after all the boat trips have departed for the day. One day speedboat trips depart at 5-6am whereas the liveaboard boat trips depart at 10am.

4. Top Tips on Choosing a Boat Trip

Not going to lie - choosing a Komodo boat can be pretty confusing! Here are the basics:

  • There are 3 types of boats: Phinisi (3-4 star hotel standard), Basic (hostel-like) or Speedboat .
  • The Phinisi boats will usually only do 3D2N trips , and depart only on Fridays. The Basic boats will do 2D1N departing daily or 3D2N trips departing on Fridays. The speedboats will only do 1 day trips, and depart daily.
  • So choose your boat depending on when you arrive, and what level of comfort you’d like!
  • Note that if you’re in Komodo during rainy season (Jan - Mar), you’ll likely only have a choice of speedboats . The 2D1N basic boat trips get cancelled frequently during this time and the 3D2N phinisi boats won’t go out due to safety concerns.

For more tips, check out our Komodo Islands cheat sheet here.

5. How to Book a Komodo Boat Trip

You can book a boat trip in advance or when you get to Labuan Bajo with a boat agent on the main street. Note that the main street usually only has basic boats left at the last minute -  so if you’re looking for a nice phinisi liveaboard you would need to book in advance.

We’d also caution that there are many basic boats in Labuan Bajo with dodgy safety standards, and there are several incidents of boats sinking each year. So please do your research in advance and book from a reputable company! We have handpicked the best boats in Komodo here.

6. What to Expect in Labuan Bajo

Expect a sleepy fishing town that's right on the cusp of development.

  • Infrastructure: While Labuan Bajo has become more developed in recent years, street lamps were only introduced as recently as 2022! So it is not as developed as some other Indonesian cities, and certainly decades behind Denpasar’s infrastructure.
  • Safety: It's a really safe town, and we wouldn't feel unsafe walking around after dark as solo female travellers. We felt as safe here as we do in Bali - so just keep your wits about you and you'll have nothing to worry about.
  • Service Levels: The working culture here is much more laid-back than Bali. Expect that pick-up will be late, and service may be slow. People in the service industry speak basic English but don’t expect Bali levels by any means.
  • Food: The quality of restaurants here is pretty high for a small town. You can expect some great Italian and other Western restaurants, and hidden warungs where you can try Flores’ yummy babi sei (smoked pork and rice).

Labuan Bajo, Indonesia: A Hidden Paradise in the East

Labuan Bajo is a small fishing village in the western tip of Flores Island, Indonesia. It is the gateway to the Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to the world’s largest lizard, the Komodo dragon. Labuan Bajo is also a popular destination for travelers who want to explore the stunning natural beauty and rich marine life of the surrounding islands and seas.

Labuan Bajo, Indonesia | travel the world first

Here are some of the best attractions and activities that you can enjoy in Labuan Bajo:

  • Visit the Komodo National Park . This is the main reason why most people come to Labuan Bajo. You can take a boat tour to visit the islands of Komodo, Rinca, and Padar, where you can see the majestic Komodo dragons in their natural habitat. You can also hike, snorkel, or dive in the crystal-clear waters and admire the diverse coral reefs and colorful fish.
  • Watch the sunset from the Love Hill. This is one of the most romantic spots in Labuan Bajo, where you can witness the breathtaking view of the sun setting over the ocean and the islands. You can also see the silhouette of the traditional wooden boats, called pinisi, that dot the horizon.
  • Explore the Batu Cermin Cave. This is a natural wonder that is located about 4 km from the town center. The name means “mirror rock” in Indonesian, because the cave walls reflect the sunlight that enters through a hole in the roof. The cave also has interesting rock formations and fossils that date back millions of years.
  • Relax on the Pink Beach . This is one of the most unique beaches in the world, because the sand has a pink hue due to the presence of red coral fragments. The beach is located on the east coast of Komodo Island, and it is a perfect place to swim, sunbathe, or take pictures.
  • Sail on a liveaboard. This is a great way to experience the ultimate adventure in Labuan Bajo. You can rent a pinisi boat and stay on board for several days, while visiting different islands and diving spots. You can also enjoy the delicious local cuisine, the friendly crew, and the starry night sky.

Labuan Bajo is a hidden paradise that offers something for everyone. Whether you are looking for wildlife, nature, culture, or relaxation, you will find it here. Labuan Bajo is more than just a destination, it is a journey that you will never forget.

What GAFFL Users Are Saying

Marie

"It’s really nice to have a platform like GAFFL with lots of travelers wanting to do the same as you, a real beautiful cultural exchange. You can meet people so easily and in a trustful way. We were four girls, from French, German and American backgrounds, without knowing each other from before. We spent an amazing week together, 2000km driving, camping on the way. We saw kangaroos, koalas, penguins and pelicans"

Saed

“I have found GAFFL to be an amazing tool for finding similar minded travel partners to embark on an adventure. Through GAFFL, I had organized a trip to Mexico City last month and Quazi joined the trip from Victoria, BC. We spent 14 days of straight exploring, hiking, eating and drinking. Quite an amazing experience - all thanks to GAFFL!”

Scarlett

"I accidentally scrolled across GAFFL and I'm so pleased I did. I met Amaia and immediately decided to road-trip together. We're spending 10 days together and it's great because we have so much in common. Couldn't have done it without GAFFL helping us find one another! It has honestly made NZ so much cheaper to explore as I get to split the costs with someone too"

Journey to Komodo Island | Hello flores

Neither too long nor too short, 3 days of the excursion is just the sweet spot for pleasure seekers. You will have the chance to explore the pristine island, discover every main feature of Flores, yet got the opportunities to set your feet at a bunch of less touristic island. To see your travel journal hit all the iconic places and reveal new places! Isn’t it a traveler dream?

Get in the ship and start your Komodo tours from Labuan Bajo. In one hour the ship will carry you to Sebayur Besar, one of the twin islands just right at the border of the Komodo National Park. The island might be unheard of, but it has wonderful natural beauty both up and below the lands. Sebayur offers a stunning view for trekking and fantastic snorkeling as you will experience snorkeling between the twin island and see the blooming life underneath.

After a pleasant start, you can sail to the northern part of the Komodo National Park and land in Gili Lawa Darat, an island popular with its other name; the Pirate Bay. protected by the wide and deep bay of Komodo Island in front of it, the Pirate Bay is perfect for water sport, kayaking, and many other fun water activities

A trip to the island will not be complete without a dive or two in the ocean. That’s why you might want to include a visit to Manta Pointto swim with the giant Manta right from the deck. This shallow dive site is famous for Mantas sighting all year round. Not so long after, a group of Mantas will gracefully greet you from below, and when you have satisfied, the beautiful pink beach of Pulau Makassar awaits you to have a rest and relax.

Make the most of the last day by visiting an island that you have never landed before. If the time allows, you can even fit a trek to two islands at once, before heading back to the port town. You want this day to be remembered, so why not pay a visit to a peculiar place? You can take Kalong, the bat island, to your next itinerary. The island lives up to its name, as Kalong means big bats in Indonesian. Don’t worry, these furry flyers are mostly sleepy during the day. Your captain will try to place the boat under the bats’ path, where you can stand very close to this animal and observe their natural behavior.

End your journey with one last beautiful spot. Flores has abundant of amazing view, and Kelor Island can be your choice. Sits just in front of Flores hills, this small island offers hills trekking where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Flores, Rinca Island, and other islands between the blue ocean. Kelor is famous for its tranquility views, and isn’t that what you need after a long trip around Flores?

Soon it will be time to dock at Labuan Bajo. When the time has come, you will be left will exhaustion ad satisfied smile on your face.

5 days komodo cruise from labuan bajo

liveaboard | Hello flores

5 Days / 4 Nights

LABUAN BAJO SEBAYUR SIABA BESAR GILI LAWA DARAT MANTA POINT PADAR PINK BEACH RINCA KALONG KELOR LABUAN BAJO

For someone who always longing for a life by the sea, taking 5 days cruise is just a perfect experience. For almost a week, you will sail from island to island, hopping from beach to beach, and just relish what nature has to offer. Having a week to spare means you can explore every nook and cranny of the archipelago and have a pleasure to visit hidden spot not many people know about. Stop anywhere as you please and experience the whole beauty of these islands.

Your excursion begins at  Labuan Bajo , the famous port town where the ship will sail. This is your last chance to stack up your favorite snacks before being marooned for five days ahead. Meanwhile, as you have plenty of time to spend, so why don’t we use it to explore this beautiful little port town?

Beside the port deck, Labuan Bajo has a lot to offer. This is a great point for your  Flores exploratio n! Indulge in seafood delicacy at the fish market while enjoying the ocean view. Take a little trek down to  Rangko Cave  and swim at the ridiculously clear, secret swimming hole inside the cave.

If you have much time before the scheduled time of your Komodo Flores tour, take a mini-expedition to one of Labuan Bajo’s awesome waterfalls—the  Cunca Wulang and Cunca Rami , where you can enjoy swimming and canyoning before sailing off the shore. Cunca Wulang is especially gorgeous as the water streams from the canyon, entering a gorge where you can jump into the clear water and take a great shot of it.

Which beach will we land first? That’s the question. With almost a week of sailing, you have the chance to check every island on the archipelago off the list. Maybe you can start your journey with a small island with captivating beauty, both in the land and below, such as  Sebayur island .

A great place for a starter, Sebayur is blessed with undulating hills of brownish-yellow grass, providing a pleasing contrast with the surrounding ocean. Its charming view invites you to take a short track to the hilltop, to enjoy an unobstructed ocean view and sense idyllic remoteness.

If you are a licensed diver, don’t miss the chance to dive in Sebayur—diving is Sebayur’s main attraction, anyway!  A number of world-renown diving sites  lie just a few hundreds of meters off the shore, such as the famous Batu Bolong, Crystal Rock, and Castle Rock. The surrounding marine life is spectacular with sloping reef, coral walls, colorful sea critters, and schools of many kinds of fishes. It’s almost like a diving in clear aquarium. Past the beautiful coral plateau, the water is a heaven for pelagic hunters, turtle galore, micro diving, and occasional passing Mantas.

If you wish, you can spend your first afternoon in here. The island is famous as one of the best spot in Flores to enjoy the most beautiful sunset ever. Sits on the idyllic hills and watch the sky change into pastel colors, before heading back to the cruise and prepare for tomorrow’s adventure.

Passing to the neighboring Siaba Besar is highly recommended if diving is your thing. It’s one of highly popular easy dive, where you can spot pelagic, stingrays, and even dugongs. The site is also a favorite night dive among divers.

You can always opt for another island to explore if you prefer to stick with land, grass, and beaches. There are more islands in Flores than what you see in the itinerary samples, such as Bidadari, Seraya,  Kanawa , or Monkey island which each have its distinct beauty.

The next day, another adventure awaits. Start the day with something fresh, and docking to  Gili Lawa Darat  is on our suggestion. n fact, the island is one of the greatest places to catch a wonderful sunrise. Take a little tracking to the hills and enjoy an almost magical scenery when the sunrise from the horizon, slowly reveals the ocean and the bumpy hills of the archipelago from the darkness of the night. During January to May, you will be greeted with lush green grass covering the rolling hills, and the grass turns crisp and yellow during the dry season—turning the island into beautiful savannah.

An afternoon in the cruise clearly calls for a dip in the clear water, and it will be a great loss to miss a chance to meet the Manta. The  Manta Point  in Komodo National Park waters is the best place to see these intelligent creatures, as the water is rich with plankton - a delight for the Manta Rays. The Mantas are often traveling in a group and are present almost all year round. Lucky divers can even spend solid 30 minutes of interaction with the Mantas as long as the condition is right.

After spending first two days with water activities, your third day of excursion should be something fun. Why not visit the famous  Padar Island  today? A trek to this island is one of the most essential things to do during a Flores tour package, something you don't want to miss. As the hills lack of shady trees, it’s best to take a sunrise track early in the morning while the air is still cooler.

Reach the hilltop where you can catch a spectacular sunrise, and you will understand why radar Island steals thousand hearts of wanderer. Once you have finished exploring the magnificent surrounding, make your way down to Padar’s remarkable multicolor beaches, particularly the pink one. It’s time to chill.

Since you are visiting the pink beach of Padar, let’s just spent the whole day indulging in the blushing beaches? Lucky you, Hello Flores can take you to another pink beach in the tip of  Komodo National Park , hidden from other groups of travelers. Get into your snorkeling gear and you will see that the pink beach trails down beautifully to the sea bottom, blushing with the same hue.

Sunbathing in the pink sand while watching the contrasting blue ocean truly feels like a world away from everything. Sadly, it will come the time to leave this lovely beach, and it’s time for the next journey.

The fourth day of adventure will be perfect to visit the limelight of Komodo National Park, and that means the  Komodo Dragons  themselves! Sail to  Rinca , home of the biggest lizard on earth. A visit to this daunting creature can only be compared by a thrilling stop to massive bat cave, the  Kelor island . They are sleeping soundly during the day and you can watch them safely from the boat, but the real deal happens at dusk. Thousands of bats fly when the sky is turning into velvety tangerine, scattered and start preying their food in the neighboring islands. This is your last night on the cruise, and surely this will be a view you could never forget.

The last day of the excursion is perfect for a sleepy pleasure before heading back to the port town. After so many adventures, having a last authentic vibe of Flores will be a foolproof closure, indeed. One last trek to the hills and you are set to grab the wonderful panoramic view of Flores, Rinca, and other islands you have visited. relax in the white sand beaches before ending your Flores Komodo tours for good.

Please note that the itineraries may change at any time by the management of the boats due to among others; local condition, weather, strong current, windy and any unforeseen reason for the safety of passengers and the boat crew.

Turtle | Hello flores

“Don’t we all dream of the faraway?”

Labuan Bajo trip is what a dream made of. Hop the Komodo Liveaboard and spend the day sunbathing on the deck. A little while after boarding and leaving from Labuan Bajo , you will be surrounded with clear blue ocean that stretched to the horizon. The boat is sailing in steady speed, and it feels like you have all the time in the world.

Watch when the rugged green hills or the brown crisp savannah rises from the ocean, signaling your next visit. The archipelago is just what you want from island escape; dense jungle thickly covered the slope and drops to the blue ocean, only to get separated by a line of palm trees, soft sands beaches, and rocky reefs.

In the West Flores, three big islands and several surrounding small islands make up the Komodo National Park, each have something unique to behold. A journey to Flores will never be complete without a sightseeing tour to these islands, and the only way to get there is by boat.

A Komodo Flores tour will take you to explore the whole Flores and Komodo National Park. The exotic Flores is surrounded by equally beautiful islands, and one of the best ways to get a taste of them is by hopping on open trip from Labuan Bajo by cruise. Most of the population settle in Maumere, the largest town, and in Labuan Bajo, the port town. Other dwell on the smaller cities in Flores or cluttered at small villages deep behind the hills, leaving the nearby islands mostly inhabited and stay virgin.

Your choice is endless. Hello Flores believes that there is no perfect Labuan Bajo tour package. With Hello Flores, the itinerary follows your preference. You can freely pick up any islands that spark your interest and arrange the excursion that will really suits you. When there are lots of beautiful islands that has been enlisted to your traveling bucket list, feel free to take a two to five days Flores tour package as long as your time and budget allow.

Every trip begins and ends at the main port town of Flores, Labuan Bajo . It’s a 10 minutes car ride from Komodo Airport. Sail shortly after landing or spend a night first at the town, the choice is yours. Labuan Bajo is slowly brimming with shops, accommodation, and Western-style restaurants among other places in Flores, so it will be wise to stock up your needs and arrange your stay while you are still in town. Only few hotels make their online presence, so if you want to take a day rest after the excursion, it’s best to book prior to your cruise departure.
