Group skiing with Sno

Group ski holidays are all about breathtaking scenery and exhilarating runs by day, followed by well-earned feasts, cosy evenings by the fireplace and lively après-ski in charming villages. It's hard to beat a week carving fresh tracks with friends or conquering powdery slopes together as a multi-generational family in the majestic Alps.

Planning a group ski getaway can feel like "herding cats" – choosing resorts, juggling budgets and wrangling everyone's details. But fear not! SNO's dedicated specialists are here to make finding and booking your stress-free group ski deal (almost) as thrilling as the slopes themselves! We have the perfect options for every group.

Best Group Ski Holidays

We update this list often but facilities can change, so if any specific feature is essential to your trip, make sure you ask us to confirm the details before you book your holiday.

Group Ski Holidays in Austria

Austria promises a perfect blend of thrilling skiing, charming atmospheres and a variety of après-ski activities for a memorable ski holiday for all your group, from avid skiers to non-skiers. Hotels are more the scene here, rather than chalets. Ischgl is one of our favourite resorts for groups, where you’ll find hotels close to all the action, perfect for party animals, like the Hotel Madlein and the Arthotel Elizabeth both also with wellness facilities. Mayrhofen’s Hotel Strass comes with its own squash courts, adding a dose of healthy competition, while St Anton’s family-run Hotel Arlberg sits near the gondola. So grab your ski buddies, get your lederhosen prepped and make some epic Austrian memories!

Group Ski Holidays in Italy

Group ski adventures in Italy are a journey through exquisite food, fine wines and some of the largest interconnected ski areas. In The Milky Way, resorts like Sauze d'Oulx have hotels such as Hotel La Torre and Hotel Avalanche , perfect for accommodating large groups of skiers. For those seeking a more expansive adventure, Hotel Alexander is in Livigno, part of Dolomiti Superski, the world's largest ski area. Although chalets are rare in Italy, our top choice for group ski holidays is the historic Chalet Hotel Parc Victoria in Cortina. Centrally located, it can comfortably host up to 8 guests.

Group Ski Holidays in France

France is where real group ski holiday magic happens. Conquer those slopes together, party ‘til dawn or soak in a chalet hot tub big enough for everyone. For après ski on your doorstep, La Folie Douce Hotel is the party hotel with a spa. For an adult only ski group, Club Med Arcs Extreme in Les Arcs is all-inclusive luxury with ski-in/ski-out access and pools. If you want the place to yourselves, chalets, such as Chalet Sarenne in Alpe d’Huez sleeps 10 while Chalet Arktic in Tignes has a home cinema and sleeps 16-18. When it comes to self-catering, Val d’Isere is at the head of the game with a range of apartments perfect for smaller groups .

Group Ski Holidays in Switzerland

For a fun group ski adventure, look no further than The 4 Valleys, and the party village of Verbier , with chalets like Chalet Sorojasa (complete with a games room and cinema) or Marais Rouge with a huge family-size outdoor hot tub at. Zermatt is a charming chocolate box resort with horse-drawn sleigh rides, and group-friendly hotels like Le Mirabeau Hotel & Spa and Grand Hotel Zermatterhof . Both resorts offer something for everyone from extensive ski areas for skiers to designer retail therapy for non-skiers.

Group Ski Chalets

After an exhilarating day on the piste, relax together in a private chalet. Chalet catering includes more than the usual “breakfast & dinner” of a hotel. Enjoy afternoon tea & cake straight off the piste, staving off hunger until home cooked dinner usually including free wine! Properties start from an intimate number sleeping just 6, up to 50+. Book sole-occupancy and get a private host all to yourselves. Browse and book all group ski chalets .

Group Ski Hotels

If you prefer a little privacy and space from each other, plus extra facilities like a pool or spa, a hotel is an excellent choice. Our carefully selected options range from cheap 2 star right through to luxury 5 star in all the best destinations. With B&B, half board or full board, you have more catering options. Ask about our chalet-hotels which combine the catering of a chalet with the space of a bigger hotel. Browse and book all group ski hotels .

Self-Catered Ski Groups

For independent travel, browse accommodation-only and call to ensure you still get discounts for booking in a group. Some packages can be booked self-drive with ferry crossing for your car included, although flight based packages can attract the best group reductions. Ski Resorts for Mixed-Ability Groups

Ensure everyone gets the most out of their trip, with our guide to the best resorts for groups . Below is a précis of the most popular:

  • 3 Valleys (France) - the biggest ski area in Europe. Resorts, après ski & terrain to suit everyone. Best: Meribel , Courchevel and Val Thorens .
  • Espace Killy (France) - superb skiing & a snow-sure glacier. Great après. Best: Tignes and Val d'Isere
  • Paradiski (France) - every type of skiing you could wish for, with two tiered resorts connected by the Vanoise Express. Best: La Plagne and Les Arcs .
  • Chamonix (France) - ski areas all along the valley. Arguably the world’s best skiing & après. Distances between areas can mean less skiing together as a group, but more stories to share over après.
  • Les Deux Alpes (France) - piste & off-piste skiing on a magnificent scale. Easier runs at top of mountain, so even non-advanced ski in the best snow. Great views.
  • St Anton (Austria) - known for most famous après ski in the world. Skiing and snowboarding just as impressive. Off piste is epic!
  • Kitzbuhel (Austria) - idyllic resort, chic village and perfectly groomed slopes with facilities and nightlife to match. Good value.
  • Mayrhofen (Austria) - typical Tirolean vibe with an exciting après scene. Part of Zillertaler Superski pass with a massive 639km of terrain.
  • Milky Way (Italy) - vast linked domain. Cruise from one pretty village to the next enjoying cuisine & local wine in sunny Italy. Best: Sauze d'Oulx and Sestriere .
  • Dolomiti Superski (Italy) - biggest ski area in the world, with 12 resorts and 1200km of slopes, it’s a huge adventure waiting to be had. Italian food, wine & hospitality amongst the majestic Dolomites. Best: Selva , Corvara , Canazei and Val di Fassa .
  • The 4 Valleys (Switzerland) - Verbier in particular is a chic big-skiing and big-partying favourite & Zermatt with its extensive skiing and cosmopolitan flair is a little less bling, more old-money.
  • Grandvalira (Andorra) - relatively newly linked, a real alternative to the Alps. At 205km it rivals the best in Europe and can be better value. Best: Pas De La Casa , Soldeu and El Tarter

Group ski holidays FAQ:

What are the best ski resorts for groups.

  • Meribel , France
  • Val d’Isère , France
  • St Anton , Austria
  • Mayrhofen , Austria
  • Verbier , Switzerland

How do I plan a group ski trip?

Check out our page on organising a group ski trip for starters. Or skip that step and talk to our experts – we’re ready and waiting to find somewhere that suits your party’s needs and get everyone booked up in the smoothest way possible.

How do I book a group ski holiday?

  • Dates + any flexibility
  • The type of accommodation that you wish to stay in (chalet/hotel/apartment)
  • Where you want to fly from + any flexibility
  • The overall ability levels in the group
  • What's most important- snow conditions, apres, the town, good for beginners, etc.

Some of our group want to travel from a different airport, is it possible to arrange more than one travel option?

Definitely. We can arrange different travel plans for every single individual if need be, whether that means each person’s nearest departure airport or a mix of plane, train and road travel.

I can’t find a holiday suitable for our group. Can you help?

Absolutely. We’re here to find the holiday you’re looking for and if one of our packages doesn’t quite work, we’ll create a tailor-made trip suited to your needs. Give us a call or send us an online enquiry - we’d love to chat through your options.

Can private group transfers be arranged?

Yes. We can arrange a private coach/minibus for larger groups, and car/helicopter transfers for smaller groups – let us know what kind of transfer you’re looking for and we will take care of the rest!

What’s better for groups – hotel or chalet?

If everyone in your group is confirmed and ready to book, a chalet with the same number of beds is perfect. If you want to get something booked where others can still sign up later, pick a chalet hotel or hotel where more rooms will be up for grabs.

How do I find a chalet that suits my group size?

Use the SNO search bar to enter the number of guests in your group. With the filters you can select your preferred type of accommodation, plus other things, like properties with a hot tub/pool/childcare to end up with the exact place you’re looking for.

What does sole occupancy mean on a ski holiday?

This means your group will have exclusive use of a whole property as opposed to sharing the building or any facilities with other guests. Depending on your party size, this could be a chalet, hotel, apartment or whole apartment block.

Can I book neighbouring apartments for my group?

Yes, at the very least we can make a strong request for you to be near each other.

Where can I find information about luxury chalets for groups?

Our luxury group holidays page contains details about luxury chalets and hotels that are especially designed to cater for large groups.

What are the best ski resorts for groups with non-skiers?

  • Zermatt , Switzerland
  • Chamonix , France

Ski Tours Europe

Come experience the big & wild mountains, fabulous food and the unique cultural identity of small ski towns

SKI THE MOUNTAINS OF EUROPE

Ready for a val d'isere or dolomites adventure.

We offer custom alpine ski trips in some of Europe's most famous ski resorts.  The last few years we've skied in Norway, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France.

In the upcoming ski season the week-long alpine ski trips will be in March to Val d'Isere, France.  Here, we'll be skiing the renowned L'Espace Killy area, or Val d'Isere - Tignes linked resorts.  It is the hometown and ski playground of the 1968 Winter Olympics triple gold winner Jean Claude Killy and 2022 Winter Olympics slalom gold winner Clement Noel.

The standard trip is 7 days, Sunday-to-Sunday.  Lodging is offered in a luxury Chalet right in the heart of the village with a 4-block walk to the lifts.  Our own in-house Chef will prepare breakfast, afternoon tea & pastries, apres-ski beers and wine and three-course gourmet dinners complete with paired wines.

In the schedule below are also listed Cross-Country and Backcountry ski trips in Norway and Alpine ski trips to the Dolomites, Italy.  Please contact us directly for detail information about these trips.

Early booking

The vacation booking season in Europe is much earlier than what is typical in the U.S.  Normally, 60% of chalets in Val d’Isere are booked by September.  Therefore, to get the preseason advantage price and desired week selection we require a 50% down payment ~6 months in advance by September 1. The payment balance deadline is December 15.  The payments are non-refundable as we fully pre-pay the holiday and services at this time.

It is possible to book later, but lodging availability will be limited and the corresponding market pricing most likely higher.

Depending on the size of each group we book a Chalet with 4 - 6 bedrooms with bathrooms and a Chef's kitchen.  Other features may include a dining room, lounge, entry hall, library/TV, steam room, massage room, whirlpool, balcony and ski lockers with boot dryers.

The typical lounge consists of soft cushioned sofas around a coffee table, reading chairs and/or futons. There is nothing better than allowing your body to sink into a relaxed state here after a long day of skiing.  The lounge tends also to be the setting for late night conversation about that day's turns, or adventures experienced long ago.

Dining room

The dining room comfortably seats the group together for meals.  Served breakfast provides you with energy and helps build anticipation for the ski day ahead.  Afternoon tea with pastries and beverages are provided upon return from the slopes.  Dinner is usually a three-course affair with paired wines.

Bedrooms & bathrooms

The Chalet's bedrooms are mostly equipped with movable beds that can be configured as a Queen bed, or single beds.  Most bedrooms come with en suite bathrooms.

The skiing in L'Espace Killy, or the Val d'Isere - Tignes linked resorts, is vast and you can ski for days without crossing your own tracks.  Unlike in the U.S., most all of the skiing is in the alpine above the tree line.  The village of Val d'Isere itself is at an elevation of 1,850m (6,070') and the ski day starts with a gondola or tram ride up and out of the village.

L'Espace Killy stretches over six valleys and two glaciers with 300 km of groomed trails spread over 25,000 acres.  The Val d'Isere - Tignes resorts together have 75 lifts including 2 underground rail trains, 3 trams and 6 gondolas.  The top of the area is at  3,456m (11,340') with over 1,600m (5,200') of vertical drop to ski.

Of the 159 official trails listed their classifications are 12 Green, 69 Blue, 44 Red and 25 Black.  They importantly vary in aspect and altitude, which allows for a choice of snow conditions when the weather is not optimal.

The weather in this region of the Alps can be fickle like in any other mountain range.   2018 was a record snow year, 2019 was average, 2020 was above average, 2022 was below average, 2023 & 2024 had average snowfall.  In March, as we approach vernal equinox, the days get longer and the weather patterns often stabilize bringing less precipitation and more sunshine.

Big mountains

Vast terrain, gentle hills, elusive powder, alpine to forest, endless trails, lunchtime view, outdoor tables, sun seating, high speed quad chairs, happy faces, scenic trails.

Breakfast is served at 8am.  A variety of cereals, pastries, fruits, egg dishes and more are served throughout the week.  Diet restrictions can be accommodated.

Lunch is typically eaten at one of the restaurants on the mountain.  The selection varies between the locales, but is always delicious as only the French can make it.

A good French lunch is not complete without an espresso.  The resulting balanced contents of your stomach aids the digesting process and the caffeine wakes you for afternoon turns.

Our Chef will prepare pastries during the day, which greet us upon our afternoon return to the Chalet.  Classic english tea is prepared and beer and wine is always available.

Dinners are served at 8pm and prepared by our Chef in the Chalet kitchen.  A variety of meats and fish are served throughout the week.  Diet restrictions can be accommodated.

The dessert is the ultimate experience of the day.  To complement you may enjoy a digestif to nudge your sensory system into hibernation for a good night's sleep.

A TYPICAL WEEK

Arrive Geneva Airport by 12 noon.  Meet at 1pm for the transfer to resort by dedicated van service.  The route is through Annecy, Albertville and Bourg St. Maurice before arriving Val d'Isere.  We settle in to the Chalet and get acquainted - welcome!

Every morning a general guided tour plan will be presented and people may choose to join, or form their own group to ski with for the day.

For example, on Monday the plan would typically be:

We explore the Bellevarde and Toviere areas and visit La Daille for a ride on the Funival rail line to the top of Bellevarde.  On our way back to the Chalet at the end of the day we ski the 1992 Albertville Olympics Men's Downhill course on the Face de Bellevarde.

Maybe we explore the Les Brevieres, Aiguille Percee, Le Palet, Val Claret and La Grande Motte areas and roam around the Olympic and World Cup freestyle course areas.

As everyone becomes familiar with the area input is encouraged and the general tour plan for the day reflect the group's preferences.  If we haven't had time the first two days, we should explore the Solaise, Le Laisinant, Le Fornet and Glacier de Pisaillas areas of the ski area.

Thursday - Friday - Saturday

We ski our favorite trails together, or in smaller groups, as your heart desires.  If we split into multiple groups, maybe we still meet for lunch, or maybe not.

Departure from Val d'Isere is at 9:00am for expected arrival at Geneva Airport before 1pm.  This allows afternoon flight departures, or sightseeing around Geneva for those who would like to see this most cosmopolitan city.

About Ski Resorts in the Alps

Experience a place where skiing is deep-rooted in the culture and way of life. Skiing has existed in Europe's Alps for several hundred years. First as a means of transportation through the rugged mountains and more recently, as a fun way to recreate during the winter months.

Throughout France , Switzerland , Italy , Austria and Germany ski vacationers can experience dozens of perfectly preserved villages and hamlets boasting original chalets, hotels, inns, and restaurants. A Europe ski vacation is also great for the skier or snowboarder who enjoys their leisure time. On-mountain restaurants offer sunny patios, mind-boggling views, and world-class wine lists, sometimes making the Alpine dining scene and après-ski experience a more popular activity than the top-notch skiing.

If you don’t ski or snowboard or you like to include other things on your Europe ski vacation, Ski.com has the inside scoop on plenty of other activities, including snow tubing, zip-lining, fat biking, ice skating, shopping, paragliding, spa treatments, and of course, dining.

Europe Travel Experts

Ski.com's Mountain Travel Experts boast deep backgrounds in European Travel. We know the best resorts for beginners and intermediates, along with which mountains are family-friendly and perfect for skiers on a budget. We also have a huge selection of self-catered apartments and hotels, so you're sure to find somewhere to suit you and your group.

Call our Ski Specialists on 0330 102 8004 if you need some help organising your group ski holiday...

Getting the Best Value from Your Group Ski Holiday

  • Book early to capitalise on early-bird offers on both accommodation and ski extras such as lift passes and ski hire.
  • Savings of around £50pp are applied to Whole Chalet bookings. You’ll have a mountain home-from-home just for you and your group, and if you book a chalet with some extra beds (e.g. triple rooms), you can fill these too which reduces the per person price.
  • Book a Ski All-In Deal with your Chalet, Apartment or Hotel holiday, which packages up your lift passes and ski hire with your booking in return for a saving on the price if you bought separately. If you add these when you book early, there’s no extra money down and the price is locked-in with your deposit.
  • Consider self-driving to reduce travel costs. It’s worth crunching the numbers if there are mainly adults in your group. Plus you’ll have a car to visit other nearby resorts which might be included on your lift pass
  • Subscribe to our Offers Alert  and be a part of the privileged group to receive all our best offers and tips, as well as early access to our newest deals and sales before they go public.

Top Ski Chalets for Large Groups

Our catered ski chalets are perfect for groups and feature six days of hosted catering. Enjoy time with your friends or family in a private mountain home-from-home.  Below you'll find some great chalets for large groups. Some of these are bookable room-by-room so if you want the whole property you'll need to book early!

Chalets With Extra Rooms or Beds (When Booked as a Whole)

We have a number of catered chalets in our collection that have 'extra' rooms or beds that we don't include as part of the published capacity. Usually these extra spaces are best suited to children, but either way they represent excellent money-savers if you book a whole chalet and divide the total cost between a larger group. Details about the extra rooms or beds in each chalet can be found by clicking the link for each property.

An hypothertical saving might be Chalet Tavaillons in Tignes which is priced based on 16, but can sleep up to 20 people. If the total price for a week was £24,000, the per person price for 16 people would be £1,500. If your group of 20 people occupied the chalet, the per person price would drop by £300 to just £1,200pp - a considerable saving !

For more options, why not browse our chalet searches for different sized groups?

Some have communal main entrances, some separate; some have communal wellness facilities, some have their own... In essence there are enough variations that you're sure to find the ideal combination :

Please give us a call on 0330 102 8004 if you need some help organising a combo-chalet holiday for your group...

Why Book a Whole Chalet?

Just like a great bottle of wine or  your birthday celebrations… a ski holiday is an experience best shared. Enjoy a quintessential alpine home for JUST you and your group by booking a private ski chalet and take advantage of some key benefits:

Top Ski Resorts for Groups

Although any ski resort would be a great adventure for you and your powder-posse, some offer better amenities for things like apres ski events, exploring other resorts, dining out and retail therapy...

1. TIGNES, FRANCE

The high-altitude resort of Tignes might not be the classic chocolate-box resort to look at, but it has something for everyone in a group - great for all levels of skier, some of the best non-skiing activities and a huge range of accommodation. It's hard to top as a group ski holiday destination. The convenience of mostly ski-in/ski-out accommodation means there's a great choice for all budgets and if you're after a snow-sure resort, being at 2,100m will provide that peace-of-mind.  Tignes possesses huge pistes from green to black and some truly enthralling off-piste zones to get the adrenalin pumping.

2. ST. ANTON, AUSTRIA

Quite possibly where dancing on table in ski boots was born! Visiting this resort, you’re never far from a party and the atmosphere is ideal for groups. A huge ski area comprising multiple mountain villages will keep you adventuring all week and a choice of ski chalets makes St Anton a top option for a group ski trip. One thing’s for sure – you should definitely visit this legendary ski resort before too long.

3. VAL THORENS, FRANCE

Known as much for après ski as the pistes, Val Thorens gets top marks for entertaining groups of skiers. One of the homes of La Folie Douce and its in-resort rival '360 Bar', the party gets started on the piste well before the lifts stop turning. VT has loads of apres options in close proximity in the village too. Lodging options are all close to the piste and with a variety of bedding configurations so you can make savings by squeezing more mates in a room. More spare Euros for après!

4. ARABBA, ITALY

Arabba is a traditional Italian ski resort where groups can experience a typical Italian atmosphere, ski on some of the best runs in the Dolomites and enjoy delicious local cuisine. The access to the Sellaronda is easy-peasy and accessing the nearby Marmolada glacier is simple too. Skiing in Italy is as decadent as it is fun, and a real treat for any budding foodies. 'Ski-Gastronomy' is endemic to the region and you'll find some of the finest mountain restaurants right here.

This is the Perfect Group Ski Holiday for Solo Travellers in Europe

Almost Ginger blog owner with two friends in ski gear sat in the snow at La Fouly Ski Resort, Switzerland

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read the disclaimer here .

I’d rather travel solo than not at all.” That’s been my travel mantra for years but if I’m honest, it’s not exactly true. It should be, “I’d rather travel solo than not at all… but there are some trips I won’t take until someone can join me.” The truth is, I’d never take a solo ski trip. Luckily, the opportunity to join a group ski holiday with other solo travellers presented itself and obviously, I took it!

This post is in collaboration with Coliving.frilingue.

As someone who grew up in the UK and had only been skiing once on a school trip 16 years ago, I believed a lot of myths about skiing group holidays . I assumed people only skied with friends or family. They would book a chalet together and share the cost.

Oh, that’s another myth! I thought all ski holidays for groups were, unavoidably, expensive.  I assumed that if group ski holidays for solo travellers did exist, they would be singles ski holidays for divorcées.

Enter Coliving.frilingue and their seasonal ski workations to prove me wrong! Coliving.frilingue runs coliving spaces in Europe (amongst other exciting ventures) and one of these spaces is a coliving hostel in a village called Liddes, Switzerland .

This is where Coliving.frilingue host two-week ski workations at least twice a year. They invited me to stay for one week during their winter workation in January 2023.

My experience was incredible . This is the perfect solution for solo travellers (who don’t want to book a solo ski holiday) to enjoy an inexpensive, unforgettable group ski holiday with other like-minded travellers.

Intrigued? Here’s everything you need to know about this opportunity so you can book your place and have a fantastic experience too!

Liddes in Switzerland from above

Where Is This Ski Group Holiday?

Liddes is a village in the canton of Valais in southwest Switzerland near the Italian and french borders. Relais de Dranse is the name of Coliving.frilingue’s hostel in Liddes which you can easily access by car or by public transport.

I arrived at Geneva Airport  where I could then take a train to Martigny , change trains to Orsières  and then the 210 bus to Liddes . The bus stop is just a 10-minute walk from the hostel (more on transportation later!). Switzerland’s public transport system is world-renowned so you know the journey will be smooth.

Just a short walk from the ski hostel you will find a couple of restaurants like Restaurant De La Channe   and the restaurant at  Hôtel du   Grand-St-Bernard . I sampled both (you’re welcome) and they’re great.

Alimentation Chez Jacotte  is a small shop where you can buy some food. Liddes also has a cheese vending machine called Automate à Fromage , for crying out loud! It’s heaven on earth.

Liddes in Switzerland

How Often Do They Run Ski Holidays for Groups?

At the moment, Coliving.frilingue runs two-week ski workations twice a year, in January and March . Of course, ski group holidays (like all ski trips) are weather dependent so they aren’t year-round. That’s not to say they won’t run more frequently in the future! Keep checking Coliving.frilingue’s website   to be the first to find out about new ski workations.

They also run entire ski months in Bourg-St-Pierre , their long-term coliving space. This village is just a 10-minute drive south of Liddes and people from both spaces often hang out.

If you’re a digital nomad and want to work, live and ski in Switzerland for a month, find out more about Coliving.frilingue’s ski month here .

What Is the Ski Hostel Like?

In a word, cosy. From the outside, it looks like any of the quintessential ski chalets that are dotted all over the Swiss Alps .

Inside, there is a huge common area with lots of sofas, books, games like ping pong, a projection screen for movie nights, and lots of tables for remote working and eating. They have a small kitchen for making breakfast and drinks and an industrial kitchen for other meals.

There are three four-bed dorms, two six-bed dorms, and two eight-bed dorms but they only fill the dorms to around 50% capacity for ski workations . I was surprised at how warm and comfortable the dorms were, considering the temperatures during the night dropped as low as -16°C.

There are unisex bathrooms on every floor and they kept the ski equipment in the basement. Plus, they had a sauna!! I sauna-ed more in one week than I have in my entire life.

Coliving Frilingue - Relais de Dranse in Liddes in Switzerland

What Facilities and Equipment Are Included?

When you book the ski workation, your accommodation and cleaning are included just like a regular hostel. There’s also free tea and coffee and you’re welcome to store your own food and make your own meals in their kitchen.

Each hostel has a designated community manager and the ones at Liddes and Bourg-St-Pierre during my stay (shout out to Aiden and Dianna!) were so nice and helpful.

Private transport to and from the ski slopes was also included. This is an essential reason why you’d book organised ski group holidays over booking a regular stay at a ski hostel. If you aren’t able to drive to Switzerland then you may find it difficult to get around. But more about transport later!

Someone from the hostel can also pick you up at Liddes bus stop (if you let them know in advance, of course). Then you won’t have to schlep down the hill carrying all your luggage.

Great St Bernard Ski Area Pass in Switzerland

What Facilities and Equipment Aren’t Included?

Liddes is in the  Great St Bernard ski area  and annual passes are currently available for just €80 (that’s a bargain). You can order these through Coliving.frilingue when you book your solo skiing holiday.

I also rented my skis, ski boots, and helmet through the hostel for €100 and kept my gear in their storage area. This probably goes without saying, but you do need to bring your own goggles! If you’ve not skied before, you might not know this.

You can choose whether you want to include half board (breakfast and dinner since you’ll probably eat lunch at the slopes most days) in your booking or not.

If you’re driving to the ski hostel then you can easily make trips to the nearest supermarket. But if you don’t have a car, you might be better off including half-board, as most people did. Then all you need to do is help the hostel’s volunteers with the cooking and cleaning up afterwards.

I eat mostly veggie food and they cater to all dietary restrictions.

Even if you do decide to buy and cook your own food, you can always pay to join in on the “fun” dinners like fondue, raclette, and BBQ when you’re there.

Fondue in a Swiss Chalet

Are Beginner Skiers and Snowboarders Welcome?

Absolutely! If you are a beginner then one of the owners, Stefan, will give you ski lessons.

Many people joining skiing holidays for groups can probably already ski, but not everyone. During my trip, there were around six or seven beginners, including myself, so you’re unlikely to be the only one.

Yes, I have already mentioned that I went skiing with my school 16 years ago. But it’s not like riding a bicycle! It’s more dangerous, for starters! Although I did pick it back up surprisingly quickly, so what do I know?

You  can  rent snowboards through the hostel. But I would say that if you are a complete beginner then opt to ski instead. You’re more likely to have other beginners you can create a little beginner band with for the rest of the week when you’re left to your own devices.

I’m not sure I’d have had nearly as much fun or confidence to ski down some slopes if I didn’t have Rosaley and Joc!

Skiiers in the Great Bernard Pass Ski Resort Area in Switzerland on a Group Ski Holiday

What Are the Other People in the Group Like?

Across both the hostels in  Bourg-St-Pierre  and  Liddes , there were people from the UK, USA, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Ukraine, Moldova, the Netherlands, and many others. There were Spanish-speaking people but I’m not sure from where exactly.

There were too many people to get to know everyone, but everyone was genuinely lovely. Everyone’s on holiday, you know? They’re just there to enjoy themselves and meet some other interesting, friendly travellers instead of taking solo ski trips.

Because of this diverse and fun bunch of people, I ended up part-building an igloo (I made about five blocks of ice out of approx. 5,896 blocks). I was also part of an impromptu origami class!

I went into the sauna every night and ran outside to roll around in the snow before running back to the sauna. Let’s be clear, I have never done anything like this before. And I never would have if I didn’t meet these awesome people on this awesome trip.

Everyone on a Group Ski Holiday at Coliving.frilingue in Liddes, Switzerland

How Often Do You Go Skiing?

Every day! Or at least, you can  ski every day if you want to. It’s totally up to you. There isn’t a set schedule and whatever the group consensus is will happen.

There are three slopes nearby that you will probably visit during your group ski holiday. La Fouly  is great for beginners,  Vichères   is super close to the hostel and  Champex-Lac  has beautiful lake views.

You will probably spend your entire first day at  La Fouly learning the basics (if you’re a beginner). Vichères  is where you’ll probably ski the most since it’s ideal for skiers of all levels and is nearest to the hostel. You will probably go night skiing at La Fouly  at least once.

Apart from that, you can ski as often or as little as you like!

Chairlift at Vichères Ski Resort in Liddes, Switzerland

Are There Any Other Activities on the Group Ski Holiday?

Skiing holidays for groups aren’t nearly as fun if all you do is ski. Coliving.frilingue offers lots of extra activities you can sign up for if you like.

I visited the thermal baths and spa at  Les Bains de Lavey with a small group of guests at the hostel. Another night, I joined another small group to watch the live music at Le Farinet  and  Pub Mont Fort  in the  Verbier  ski resort nearby.

Plus, the night we had a BBQ we also had a mini party afterwards where we did shots off a ski, sang loudly to emo songs and  some  of us might have also danced to Saturday Night  by Whigfield because some of us just can’t help ourselves. So much fun!

Taking a day trip to  Aosta  and  snowshoeing  were two other activities that we also could have done.

Les Bains de Lavey Thermal Baths in Switzerland

What Are the Transportation Options?

I’ve already mentioned that daily transport to the slopes is included. That does  not  mean that you can demand someone take you to the slopes as and when you choose! But if you want to join in whenever everyone else wants to head to the slopes, you can.

If you wanted to have a lie-in or get back to the hostel early for whatever reason, you could always see if someone with a car was heading to the slopes at a different time and catch a lift with them. Most people didn’t drive to Liddes but a good chunk did so this was a viable option.

And there’s always the bus! Buses passed through  Liddes  to the slopes at Vichères  every hour. Even better, the bus is included in your ski pass. You can ask the staff when you get to the hostel for more details.

Don’t book this group ski holiday thinking it will be like any other tour group. There’s no strict schedule and you will not be herded around like cattle. It’s flexible and changeable and that’s one of the reasons why it’s such a great choice if you’re looking for ski solo holidays.

Sign in Liddes, Switzerland

How Much Does This Group Skiing Holiday Cost?

It probably costs a lot less than you think! I’ve already mentioned my ski pass was €80 and the rental was €100. Two weeks’ accommodation in a shared dorm was only €300 when I was there which is only €21 a night (I paid far more for a hostel in Geneva!). Don’t forget, that includes transport to the slopes.

It’s an incredibly cost-effective way to enjoy solo skiing holidays, especially if you’re travelling full-time.

Almost Ginger blog owner skiing in Liddes, Switzerland on a Group Ski Holiday

Can I Book With a Friend/Partner or Do I Have to Travel Solo?

Absolutely! Off the top of my head, there were at least four couples across the two hostels . Two people booked the trip as friends and three people were siblings.

Everyone else was a solo traveller but it’s totally fine to book with someone else. There are options for you to book a private dorm for yourselves, too.

Slopes at La Fouly Ski Resort in Switzerland on a Group Ski Holiday

Anything Else To Know About This Group Ski Holiday?

You might have noticed that I called this group ski holiday a ‘ski workation.’ Why? Because that’s technically what it is! It’s a working ski vacation for digital nomads, remote workers or travellers temporarily working on the road.

That’s why, on some days, other guests may not want to spend all day on the slopes. They might only want to ski in the mornings or afternoons around client calls or take the whole day off from time to time.

But it’s really, really not essential to be a digital nomad to book this group ski holiday. Some guests were just travelling long-term and some used the trip as a proper holiday. You can use the downtime to read, go for a walk, have lunch in the town, or play a game of pool!

Plus, if you’re a solo traveller and have been wondering how to extend your time on the road, this could be a fantastic opportunity for you. You’ll meet remote workers with a wide variety of jobs and skills who could inspire you to give working on the road a try.

Hi Rebecca,

This is exactly the thing I was looking for and have signed up to their program this January – super excited! Just a quick question on travel – how easy was the journey from Geneva to Liddes? Did you need to book train tickets beforehand?

Thanks a lot, A

group ski trips to europe

Ahhhh I’m so pleased, and thank you so much for letting me know! I’ll be honest – there were a few of us arriving at Geneva airport at the same time so someone from the coliving space picked us up. However, I know plenty of people did travel there by train and recommend booking train tickets in advance beforehand. I think you’ll need to get to Orsières and then take the bus to Liddes, where I would recommend you getting in touch on the group chat to see if someone working or staying at the coliving space can pick you up in their car. It’s not far for them to drive, but it’s a big hill for you to walk down. I hope you have a fantastic time! 😀

What people love about ski, snowboard & snow tours in europe.

We are not normally ones for guided holidays preferring to self explore. However, when this holiday arose we decided to give it a go. A planned holiday in 2021 for our 60th was prevented by COVID. Oh, how we are glad we did. This was the holiday of a lifetime made even better by the unbeatable Alain. From the moment we arrived at our first hotel to helping us checking in at the airport he was a gem. Feels like leaving a friend behind. Trips and tours were exceptional and organised by Alain in such a way to take away any stress or unanswered questions. And how many languages can he speak! In addition trips provided all the time you could want to self explore and discover for yourselves. This has been a dream and full credit to VOS. Already looking at Greenland! Thank you so much
Overall the tour was good. we paid to update our room as we wanted a view of the river. The hotel was very good, meals were excellent. We booked an ENGLISH speaking tour. Aurora our guide did speak english but because there were 34 of the 36 people in our group did not. there were 18 spanish and 17 french speaking only! So had no opportunity to converse with others on our tour. At times we felt left out and lonely. we were very disappointed with this aspect of the tour. Especially when it came to instructions with snow mobile, didn't get to hear any english, so my confidence was low and ended up stopping after a short while , and not driving snow mobile, but got in sleigh pulled by Instructor. The husky and reindeer rides were fantastic , the highlight of our trip. The farms were interesting and well kept. The 5 hrs dropped off at Santa Village was too long . we ended up finding our bus and sitting there for an hour or so. Would have nice to be given option of a shorted time. The thermal clothing at Safartica was poor. The items were very used and not at all comfortable. I only ended up using the overalls, and my own boots, balaclava, socks, scarf and mittens. I would not recommend them. Over all we had a great time , but unsure if we would recommend the tour with others.
Transfers were smooth and on time. Staff and Guide were very professional, courteous, friendly, and helpful. Accomodations good and clean. Equiptment was good. (Some of the layer-clothing was well-used.....in O.K. conditon, but COULD be upgraded for the sake of not looking so worn)

"A brilliant experience with too many highlights to mention. Each location just got better and better. Our very knowledgeable tour guide Ege ensured we all left the tour with a great insight into Turkish history, culture and cuisine. Each day we travelled safely and in comfort thanks to the experienced and friendly driver. The accomodation varied from 5 star to 3 star, but all were very clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend this trip but just be warned, Turkey is not a cheap place to visit, prices were much higher than any of us had expected.

"The tour generally is very good. But unfortunately the roommate I am sharing the room wasn't the right fit for me - loud and inconsiderate, rude and disrespecting me with swearing words. The tour guide Javier was trying his best to make the situation more bearable, but unfortunately not everything was in his power in control. My travel agent and the I contacted the Europamundo for assistance, but seems that they were not very much interested to find a better solution than only offering me to book a single room. The whole attitude was : "We can't do much, and we really don't want to try to find a better solution". They even didn't try. I really felt physically sick and not getting the support from the company and not seeing any effort from their end makes me very uneasy to book again with them. I booked 3 tours with Europamundo and after the excitement of the first trip I was expecting a great experience for this one, which unfortunately didn't happen. Visited locations were nice, the guides were knowledgeable understanding and helpful, as much as they could, but the whole impression of the company is - we don't care less!.

Top Seven Ski Resorts in Russia

W hile you may be tempted to use winter as an excuse to hibernate, it’s a great time to improve your fitness through exhilarating winter sports like downhill skiing. Russia’s ski industry has been booming ever since Russia hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics and offers up a number of epic ski resorts in places like the Northern Caucasus.

Russia of course shares the same winter season as Europe and North America, offering up fresh powder usually between December and April. Whether you want to tackle Mount Elbrus , Europe’s tallest peak, or simply wish to learn the basics of skiing, we thought we’d introduce you to the best ski resorts in Russia.

So get ready to engage your core and shed some of that added holiday weight by booking your own Russia family vacation package and checking out some of these great Russian ski slopes.

Best ski resorts in Russia

KANT Sports Club or Nagornaya

If you live in Moscow and want to go skiing or snowboarding, then you just can’t miss the “KANT” ski center in the southern part of the capital. Just 20 minutes from the Red Square, they’re easily Moscow’s most accessible ski slopes and perfect for travelers who are limited on time.

There are numerous trails, with a total length of 3.5 kilometers. Trail lengths range from 80m to 350m, with 6 available lifts. There is an onsite sporting goods store and tubing facilities. KANT’s slopes are actually found on an artificial hill just five minutes from Nagornaya metro station, which is why locals nicknamed the slopes Nagornaya.

Skilled skiers can choose the “Freeride” marked trails to practice your skills and there is a trail for cross-country skiing as well as a snowboard park.

Stepanovo Ski Resort

Stepanovo is a small ski resort located in the Dmitrovo district. There are 5 trails, of which a few are considered spacious and comfortable “green” trails for beginners. The total length of the two trails is more than one kilometer.

Stepanovo is also convenient because you can see the surrounding slopes at a glance. If you are skiing together as a family or as a corporate function, you will be within sight of each other. Moreover, there are not only “green” slopes, but also technically difficult slopes if you have more advanced skills. The snow park has a rental office, a school with instructors, and a storage room.

Stepanovo offers up some of the longest runs in the Moscow region, with beginners finding the runs to be some of the most comfortable. Hotels in the area offer additional ski schools and saunas for relaxing after a day on the slopes.

Best ski resorts in Russia

Sorochany Ski Area

Offering up ten trails and five lifts, the Sorochany Ski Area mainly caters to advanced skiers, but there are suitable trails for younger individuals and beginners. The Sorochany Ski Area is situated roughly 60km from Moscow, making it a great day-trip skiing destination.

You can maximize your time skiing due to the fact the slopes are lit up at night until around 2-3AM. They also have snow making facilities which means you’ll have fresh powder even when Mother Nature isn’t cooperating.  You can expect longer trails here than those found closer to Moscow.

The Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort

Situated along the Aibga Ridge of the Western Caucasus, Rosa Khutor was brought to the world’s attention when it hosted alpine skiing events during the 2014 Winter Olympics . It has a long ski season, offering up around 140 days of skiing annually and is the largest of the four Krasnaya Polyana ski resorts.

Rosa Khutor is popular with both skiers and snowboarders, with three different terrain parks to choose from. There are roughly 90km of slopes which are serviced by 26 lifts. You also get to ride the Olympic gondola to reach the Olympic Village where the ski runs start. You can tackle competition runs, beginner and intermediate runs, or the off-piste area.

You’ll also find a ski and snowboard school which offers classes for young children, as well as dining, shopping, and ice skating opportunities.

Cheget Ski Resort

Also located within the Caucasus Mountains near Mount Elbrus is the Cheget Ski Resort. With a peak elevation of 3260, it offers skiers a challenging high altitude location where 20km of trails welcome them. Cheget also usually offers an extended ski season running from around mid-October to mid-May.

While most of Cheget’s ski trails are geared towards advanced and expert skiers, there is one green run that is suitable for less-skilled skiers. Cheget’s black run is a true challenge, and makes for a top location where skiers train. There have been a number of international ski competitions held here.

Metallurg-Magnitogorsk Ski Centre

Located near lake Bannoye in the southern Ural Mountains , the Metallurg-Magnitogorsk Ski Centre is a favorite of both skiers and snowboarders. The slopes are enveloped by beautiful forests and offer 7km of trails along with a 60m half-pipe with 16° decline.

Because this is one of Russia’s newest ski areas, it sports new technology like its 1700m long speed elevator which can accommodate nearly 3,000 skiers every hour. Skiers also have access to luggage lockers, first-aid, and ski repair on site.

Top Russian Ski Resorts

Gazprom Mountain Resort

You know a ski resort must be good when it gets the tick of approval from the Russian President. Gazprom Mountain Resort is said to be the ski resort of choice for Vladimir Putin and is actually partially government-owned.

It should come as no surprise that Gazprom Mountain Resort is one of Russia’s most exclusive ski resorts and trips don’t come cheap. However, the experience is worth it, with 21km of beautiful trails winding through beech forests and 14 state of the art lifts that cut down on transport time between runs. Gazprom hosted the cross-country skiing and biathlon competitions during the Sochi Olympics of 2014.

Europe’s indoor ski centres

Skiing regardless of season and weather – that is what indoor ski slopes make possible. They are open all year round and offer winter sports enthusiasts piste fun even on hot summer days. SnowTrex has all the information you need about indoor ski centres and lists what Europe has to offer.

Europe’s indoor skiing centres at a glance

What is an indoor ski centre.

A ski centre is characterized by a tube-like, roofed space equipped with lifts and slopes. To create an artificial mountain, the building’s foundation has a slope of between 10 and 35°. In order for the artificial snow to be produced and to last, the indoor temperature is constantly between -2 and -5 °C. Gastronomy with a rustic ski hut ambience and après-ski music is available in almost every snow centre.

You can strengthen your skills in various ski and snowboard courses or gain your first experience in the fun park. If you don’t have your equipment, you can hire all the equipment on site, test it and buy some of it in the shop afterwards. Expert staff will find the right equipment for every need. To make the ski trip an all-round experience, the snow centres offer much more than just downhill fun. Some locations are real fun and adventure parks where you can book everything from children’s birthday parties to corporate events.

1. LOTTO Thuringia Indoor Ski Centre, Oberhof (Germany)

The LOTTO Thuringia Indoor Ski Centre in Oberhof is the only indoor ski centre in Germany where Nordic winter sports can be practised. Even in summer temperatures, recreational as well as top athletes will find the best winter conditions here. On an area of 10,000 m², an almost 2 km long circuit offers enough space to let off steam. In addition, four shooting ranges for small bore and air rifles can be used. Ski courses are offered for inexperienced skiers, and a ski rental shop has the right equipment for everyone.

In a 3D animation, the operators show how much space top athletes and recreational cross-country skiers have in the ski centre in Oberhof:

2. Hiihtotunneli, Vuokatti (Finland)

The ski centre Hiihtotunneli in Vuokatti is an indoor cross-country ski centre and makes training in the snow possible even in summer. The approx. 1.2 km long track is adapted to the natural hills and valleys of nature and is suitable for classic cross-country skiing as well as skating. The operator keeps the temperature at a constant -5° to -9 °C, creating optimal conditions for winter sports all year round.

3. SnowWorld, Landgraaf (Netherlands)

SnowWorld in Landgraaf has no less than five slopes with a total length of 1,120 metres. Located near Aachen, it is one of the largest indoor winter sports areas in the world. There is even a 500-metre-long official FIS racetrack, so that World Cup races can also be held here. In summer, international ski and snowboard teams come to train. In the middle of the main downhill run is a rustic Graubündner Hütte, which invites you to stop for a bite to eat. A little above it is an indoor fun park that offers plenty of space to try out new jumps and stunts. Directly attached to the indoor ski arena is a large outdoor park with a high ropes course, adventure trail, zip line and Alpine Coaster, which runs down into the valley at a speed of 42 km/hr.

4. Ski Arena, Leppävirta (Finland)

Another indoor cross-country ski arena is located in Leppävirta, Finland. The hall, which is carved into rock, is located 30 m below Hotel Vesileppis. The track is about 1.1 km long and specializes in cross-country skiing and biathlon, being suitable for both classic and skating styles. The average temperature in the hall is between -1° and -5 °C, depending on the season.

5. Alpincenter, Bottrop (Germany)

The Alpincenter in Bottrop offers the longest indoor slope in Germany! Here, advanced skiers are challenged on a 640 m long downhill run with a 24% gradient. Freestyle fans get their money’s worth in the fun park, equipment rental and a ski school round off the offer. The resort offers even more sporting variety: a high ropes course, a summer toboggan run, a paintball facility and Germany’s only professional indoor wind tunnel. Take a break in the hotel’s own beer garden, the highest in the Ruhr region. A special highlight are the all-inclusive tickets: admission, use of the slopes, equipment (skis/snowboard, boots, poles), food from the buffet, unlimited soft drinks and three alcoholic drinks (beer/wine) are available at a fixed price.

6. SnowHall, Amnéville (France)

The second-longest indoor slope in the French town of Amnéville, not far from the border to Luxembourg and Germany, is 620 metres long – the only one of its kind in France. The beginners’ hill of the indoor ski world, which opened in 2005, is 100 metres long. Snow bunnies can also try out snowscooting here.

7. Snow Arena, Druskininkai (Lithuania)

The indoor ski arena with a 460-metre-long slope is located in Lithuania’s largest spa town. However, the slope is not the only one on which visitors can enjoy themselves. There is also a beginners’ slope (150 m) and even an outdoor slope. The latter, however, is only open in real winter – but then it offers an additional 640 metres.

8. SnowWorld, Zoetermeer (Netherlands)

The SnowWorld in Zoetermeer offers a unique experience, as it is home to the steepest indoor slope in Europe. With a gradient of 20%, the red slope is a great challenge, even for experienced skiers and snowboarders. Three other slopes, including a “Kid’s World” as well as ten ski lifts and an indoor fun park are part of the versatile offer. The three restaurants entice with Austrian dishes and ambience. If you feel like après-ski afterwards, the Skybar or the Bierstube are the place to be.

9. Snow Valley, Peer (Belgium)

A ski centre that has grown over the years: while there was only one 160-metre-long slope that attracted winter sports enthusiasts to Peer when it opened, today there are three slopes. A large one with a length of 350 metres, a snow park with a length of 85 metres and a beginner’s run of 100 metres. The Belgians are particularly proud of the snow park, which was the first indoor snow park in the world when it opened in 2001, and of the hip snowboard café “Boarders Paradise”.

10. Snozones, Castleford/Milton Keynes (Great Britain)

Snozones makes winter sports possible for all skiing enthusiasts. Regardless of age, fitness, physical, sensory or cognitive impairment, experienced guides teach everyone how to ski using tailored training. The two snowzones are located in Milton Keynes and Castleford and have slopes ranging from 200 to 500 metres in length, as well as various lifts. The Alpine Kitchen serves classic dishes such as burgers, pasta, etc., as well as vegan and vegetarian options.

11. Skidôme, Rucphen (Netherlands)

Lots of fresh snow ensures lots of fun on the slopes at Skidôme Rucphen. Skiers and snowboarders enjoy a green, blue and red ski slope, each 160 m long, and modern lifts. In the fun park, you can try out new tricks on various rails and jumps. Toboggans and tyres for sliding down the slope add to the fun factor. Ice karting, glow golf and an escape room round off the varied offer.

12. Snej Krasnogorsk, Moscow (Russia)

The first indoor ski slope in Russia is located near the capital Moscow and was opened in 2008 with a 400 m long slope. In addition to the sport, the emphasis here is on the feel-good factor: Visitors can choose between 6 restaurants, they have a wellness oasis at their disposal and those who want to ski undisturbed can leave their children to professional supervision.

13. The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead (Great Britain)

The longest indoor slope in Great Britain is located in the Snow Centre, which is close to London and therefore in a top location. At 360 metres long and 30 metres wide, the slope is perfect for beginners and advanced skiers alike. The Ringo Slide is great fun for the whole family, with tyres to slide down the slope. If you need a little break, you can warm up in the bar with free tea and coffee. The restaurant also offers a great panoramic view of the slopes and tempts you with traditional alpine dishes.

14. Snowzone, Madrid (Spain)

Spain’s only indoor ski slope is located right next to the popular Xanadú shopping centre. The slope for advanced skiers is 250 m long, the beginners’ slope measures 100 m.

15. Alpincenter Hamburg-Wittenburg, Hamburg (Germany)

The alpincenter Hamburg-Wittenburg is located near Hamburg. Both indoors and outdoors, the facility offers a wide range of leisure activities, foremost skiing on a 330 m long downhill slope. Practice slope, blue and red slopes, snow park – everything is available. The varied gastro programme also includes bowling, bingo, Musikantenstadl, Sunday brunch and mystery dinner evenings.

This video clip offers a look behind the scenes of the operation of the indoor ski slope in Wittenburg:

16. Skidôme, Terneuzen (Netherlands)

Since 2012, the indoor ski centre in Terneuzen has been operating under the name Skidôme. There is a choice of blue, red and black slopes, the longest of which is 220 metres long. The different levels of difficulty are perfect for beginners to practice on, but advanced skiers will also get their money’s worth. In the fun park with rails, jumps and a giant airbag, freeriders can let off steam to their heart’s content. All ski equipment, as well as toboggans and tyres, is available for rent. In addition to the fun on the slopes, there are restaurants and cafés with delicious food and drinks to choose from.

17. SnowPlanet, Velsen (Netherlands)

The SnowPlanet in Velsen is perfect for a day out with the whole family. Courses of all levels can be booked at the ski school to learn or improve your skiing and snowboarding skills. A smaller slope is especially suitable for children, advanced skiers can enjoy themselves on a steep slope. In addition to the two slopes, the SnowPlanet has several restaurants, an après-ski café and two terraces.

18. Alpenpark Neuss (Germany)

Germany’s first indoor ski slope can be found in Neuss, not far from Düsseldorf. With a proud 300 m length and a width of up to 100 m, Alpenpark Neuss is one of the longest indoor ski slopes in Europe. Among the special features are the “real” powder snow produced in a patented process and the cladding of the hall walls by mountain panorama worlds.

The numerous ski and snowboard courses on offer make the indoor ski hall in Neuss an ideal place to go for beginners and the curious who want to be introduced to winter sports. Extra courses are also offered for children and advanced skiers who intend to improve their technique.

The indoor winter sports hall can be roughly divided into two areas. On the one hand, there are the slope sections that are more tailored to beginners. They have a gradient of between 10 and 18%, and the steeper upper slope is suitable for more advanced skiers, which leads down into the “valley” with a gradient of up to 28%. On the entire 300 m length of the piste there are several, partly separated areas, which provide some variety. In addition to a beginners’ area, where there is a 12 m-long conveyor belt, there is a 70 m-long toboggan run, where non-skiers can also get their money’s worth.

In addition to the exceptional ski slope, the area in Neuss offers two restaurants and a beer garden to replenish one’s energy reserves. Visitors who are in a party mood can enjoy themselves at motto parties at the weekend, for example. In addition, there is a 4-star superior hotel, an alpine golf course, a fun football facility and a large outdoor offering that includes a climbing park and a giant swing.

19. Snow Dome, Bispingen (Germany)

Alpine skiing in the flat country between Hamburg and Hanover? Since 2006, that’s also possible. The Snow Dome in Bispingen, with its 300 m downhill run and 20% gradient, is ideal for beginners on skis and boards. A special feature of the facility is the beautifully sweeping slope, which is about 60 m wide. In addition to the snow area with three lifts, there is a children’s area, a toboggan slope and a fun park with a dozen obstacles.

20. Chill Factore, Manchester (Great Britain)

The Hiihtotunneli ski centre in Vuokatti is an indoor cross-country centre and makes it possible to train in the snow even during summer. The approx. 1,2 km long track is adapted to the natural hills and valleys in the terrain and is suitable for classic cross-country skiing as well as skating. The temperature is constantly kept at between -5° to -9 °C and thus creates optimal conditions for winter sports throughout the year.

21. SnowPlanet, Spaarnwoude (Netherlands)

In Spaarnwoude near Amsterdam, winter sports enthusiasts ski on 230 m of piste. The hall aims to score points above all with a large range of courses – including a “fear course”.

22. SnowDome, Tamworth (Great Britain)

The SnowDome in Tamworth was opened in 1994 and was the first large indoor ski hall in Great Britain. The longest slope is 170 m long and 30 m wide, and there are also two ski school practice slopes, 30 m and 25 m long. The ski school has a wide range of courses for skiers and snowboarders. In addition, tyres and sledges can be rented. But the leisure centre can also score with other attractions: Ice skating, climbing, swimming and a fitness and spa area offer a whole range of activities for the whole family.

23. Montana Snowcenter, Valkenswaard (Netherlands)

The 7,000 m² “Montana Snowcenter” has a long slope, a mogul slope and a small snow park with rails and jumps. The smaller piste is particularly suitable for children and beginners; this is where the ski and snowboard courses mainly take place. The “Montana Bar” has a large selection of delicious dishes. From here you get a great view of the piste during refreshments and a drink in the après-ski “Rocky Bar” is the perfect end to an eventful day.

24. De Uithof indoor ski centre, The Hague (Netherlands)

The beach is not far away, yet a few metres away you can ski all year round. The indoor ski hall “De Uithof” in The Hague makes it possible. A full 211 m long piste, two ski lifts and two magic carpets are available and create optimal conditions for beginners as well as advanced skiers. Europe’s largest indoor sports centre also offers many other activities, including ice skating, go-karting, laser tag, bungee football, climbing and bouldering. Four cosy cafés invite you to take a break with hot drinks and fortifying snacks.

25. Snowtropolis, Senftenberg (Germany)

The Snowtropolis in Lusatia is somewhat smaller and more cosy. The hall, which opened in 2004, has a 140-metre-long downhill run with a gradient of up to 25 degrees and a small snow park. As you know from the big halls, you can also watch the goings-on in the snow from the après-ski bar with its large glass front. Next door there is a tennis and badminton centre, which is converted into an ice rink in the winter months. With a bowling alley, sauna area and a bathing lake nearby, this hall is also a real world of experience with a large selection of activities. For guests who want to extend their “ski holiday” beyond the day’s visit, the facility offers small holiday homes.

Indoor skiing vs. outdoor skiing

For beginners, indoor ski slopes are a good way to gain their first experience in the snow and to get at least a rudimentary feel for what winter sports in the mountains have to offer. Advanced skiers can test new skis before buying them, get in the mood for winter, or simply bridge the “snow-free” time of the year. However, the atmosphere in a ski hall is always artificially created and the range of slopes is limited. Powder snow, pleasant wintry temperatures and sunshine cannot be produced at the push of a button. Therefore, a visit to the indoor ski centre can in no way replace a ski trip to the mountains. Because skiing is more than just skiing down the slopes. It is a unique experience of nature .

Alternatively, stay closer to home as you explore the French Riviera .

There are so many options and variety on our European tours. Discover the rich historical sites of Turkey - such as the legendary city of Troy or head to warmer climes to find beaches in all shapes and sizes, from dramatic and rugged to golden and idyllic. Then there’s Italy’s Tuscan hills , which are dotted with Cypress trees, while pastel-shaded houses cling precariously to the glorious  coastline of Amalfi . And if you want to reach really dizzy heights, a holiday to the Swiss Alps offers jaw-dropping views in every direction. There’s a long list of man-made wonders to consider when choosing your European tour, too. Italy is crammed with treasures from top to toe, with Rome’s Colosseum, the  Leaning Tower of Pisa and Florence’s Duomo for starters. The romance of France , and the magnificent Spain’s Alhambra Palace  will leave you utterly spellbound. And you’ll wonder how on earth Greece’s Meteora Monasteries were built on towering rocks in the 11th century. The chance to step back in time is never too far away wherever your travels take you, with well-preserved historic treasures around every corner. Delve into the seemingly endless alleyways in Malta , where the Knights of St John would have roamed in the 14th century. Or stroll through Italy’s myriad medieval villages, which stand to this day untouched by time. Ponder life back in 79AD when the well-to-do  city of Pompeii was smothered in hot ash by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. And you can walk in gladiators’ footsteps in Roman amphitheatres scattered right across the land. Sightseeing aside, a wonderful way to experience your chosen European holiday hot spot is through its cuisine. A cheese fondue, Kalamata olives, nutty olive oil, sun-ripened tomatoes, fish freshly plucked from the sea, earthy truffles – each country, and each region boasts its own specialities. And nothing quite beats breaking bread with the locals, or drinking a glass of wine in the very vineyard where the grapes were grown.

Europe Touring Holidays Frequently Asked Questions

Europe has an array of exciting destinations from Italy to Turkey to Croatia and many more, here's some good tours for you to choose from.

Italy has so much to offer from the colosseum to Pompeii to Venice – all locations you definitely won’t want to miss! To cover all these you will need to take the Grand Tour of Italy . 15 days exploring the country from Venice to Catania, Rome, Sorrento and Sicily on route!

Turkey tantalises the senses on our Treasures of Turkey holiday . You’ll go from the hustle and bustle of the grand bazaar to watching the sunset with wine in hand at Love valley, enjoying archaeological sites, mosques and hot springs along the way.

If the medieval era is your thing then our Discover Romania and enchanting Transylvania tour will be right up your street. You’ll visit Sibiu, with its 14th century Lutheran Cathedral. Go to Sighisoara, the birthplace of one of Transylvania's most notorious sons, Vlad the Impaler – the real-life inspiration for Dracula and of course you’ll stop off at Bran’s Castle itself! (better known as Dracula’s Castle) and visit a 300-year-old monastery – still home to several monks in Bucharest.

If island hopping is more your dream holiday then our Croatian Island hopping tour may float your boat. Travelling from Split to Solta and back again, on our luxury ship solely for our group! You’ll enjoy kayaking around the walls of Dubrovnik, swimming in secluded coves, bobbing around in an inflatable, and discovering interesting facts like ancient methods of air-conditioning, all accompanied by laughter and cheerful chatter of your shipmates!

There is so much to see and enjoy across Europe from Germany’s architecture, to Frances artistic attractions and an array of historical sites in Italy.

Key attractions not to be missed on your tours are:

Italy – The Colosseum, built in AD 70-80 using travertine, limestone and volcanic rock, seating over 80,000 spectators, it was most famously known for its gladiator fights but it was also the arena for re-enactments of famous battles and executions. More remarkably, it was also the set for simulated sea battles! The arena would be filled with water so vessels could float in during the shows and drained rapidly afterwards. Equally as interesting is the engineering behind this theatre. It had a retractable awning to protect its spectators from the bad weather! Also hidden beneath the colosseum was a warren of tunnels and cells which held the gladiators and animals captive before they were sent to fight.

Another site not to miss in Italy is Pompeii – a 440,000 square meter town that was tragically engulfed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79. Approximately 10 percent of the population died and the city was buried under lava and volcanic ash. The lava preserved the town which means you can walk the streets and see the well-preserved buildings such as the Lupanare (brothel), and thermopolium (the Roman equivalent of fast food).

France - The famous Eiffel Tower, at the centre of Champ de Mars in Paris, built to be the entrance to the World's Fair in1889.This world famous structure has not always been admired though, in fact Engineer Gustave Eiffel was greatly criticised by locals, calling it a monstrosity! Never did he or they imagine quite how successful and important a structure it would be today, with its 81 floors of exhibits, viewing decks, cafes and gift shops.

Venice – The floating city. A romantic location with over 118 islands connected by the canals that run through Venice. Grab a gondola and sit back, relax and take in the scenery.

Romania – Dracula’s Castle - Bram Stoker’s 1897 Gothic, horror novel Dracula may be imaginary, but the castle isn’t. It was the real life setting of the sinister novel and is located just outside of Brasov in Romania. Officially known as Bran Castle it includes all the weapons and armour that is mentioned in Bram’s book. As for the blood-sucker himself, Bram used Vlad the Impaler as his muse. A ruler who was notorious for brutal torture and demise of in excess of 10,000 people during his reign.

Turkey – Turkey has an array of wonders to offer from Mosques to palaces, to hot springs and the famous bazaars

There is so much delicious food to be tasted across Europe and such a variety from one country to another. From delightful seafood in Portugal , Greece and Croatia to perfect pasta dishes in Italy and world-famous desserts in Austria.

While in Romania you can try stuffed cabbage rolls and in Turkey , anyone with a sweet tooth must try the ancient, traditional pastry dessert of baklava.

There really is something for everyone.

Snap findings from a More in Common poll of more than 1,000 viewers of last night's BBC debate suggest Nigel Farage came out on top.

According to the poll results , the audience is most likely to think Reform UK's leader won, with 25% picking him.

Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner comes in second with 19%.

Just 7% thought Tory Penny Mordaunt won, but 32% believe she'd be a better prime minister than Rishi Sunak - with 12% picking him.

Full Results

  • Nigel Farage - 25%
  • Angela Rayner - 19%
  • None of the above - 14%
  • Carla Denyer - 11%
  • Stephen Flynn - 10%
  • Penny Mordaunt - 7%
  • Daisy Cooper - 5%
  • Rhun ap Iowerth - 2%
  • Don’t know - 8%

Almost half (47%) of 2019 Tory voters watching the debate thought that Mr Farage won the debate, while Ms Rayner leads among 2019 Labour and Lib Dem voters who tuned in.

The poll also shows viewers are most likely to think the SNP's Stephen Flynn (net +31), the Green Party's Carla Denyer (net +31) and the Lib Dem's Daisy Cooper (+30) did well in the debate.

Reform's original candidate for Clacton will stand as an independent against Nigel Farage in the upcoming general election.

Anthony Mack quit Reform after he was replaced by Mr Farage earlier this week to vie for the seat in Essex.

But that hasn't stopped him from trying to win there.

Mr Mack is expected to hold a press conference later today.

Olympic athletes, top musicians and an ex-soap actor are among those standing to become members of parliament at the general election.

The deadline for candidates to submit their nominations passed earlier today.

Notable names on the list include:

  • Blur drummer Dave Rowntree, Labour, Mid Sussex
  • Double Olympic gold medal rower James Cracknell, Conservative, Colchester
  • Rock star Tom Gray from the band Gomez, Labour, Brighton Pavilion
  • Former Coronation Street actor Marc Anwar, independent, Bury North
  • Gogglebox's Josh Tapper, Labour, Hertfordshire
  • Olympian Marc Jenkins, Conservative, Gower

Count Binface has announced he will stand against Rishi Sunak in his Richmond and Northallerton constituency.

Speaking on his podcast, Trash Talk, Binface said it would be like "Fury vs Usyk times a billion" in the July 4 election.

"That's right, I am here right now in Richmond and Northallerton and I can announce that I will be taking on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in electoral combat on July 4.

"You shirked D-Day Rishi, you can't miss the B-Day.

"That's right. Binface vs Sunak is going to be Fury vs Usyk times a billion. Bring it on."

Binface recently came 11th in the London Mayoral Elections, where he earned 24,260 votes.

It was reported last weekend that allies of Penny Mordaunt claimed Downing Street was keeping her "in a box" during the election campaign because Rishi Sunak's team see her as a threat.

Well, after her barnstorming performance in a TV debate against politicians from six opposition parties, the Leader of the Commons is well and truly out of her box now. And she mustn't be put back in it.

Her opening words in this 90-minute showdown were explosive. The prime minister, she declared, had been "completely wrong" to leave the D-day ceremonies in Normandy early. No pulling of punches there.

She said the PM was wrong, not once, not twice, but three times. No wonder Number 10 see her as a threat. If this was an audition for a leadership bid after the election, her friends will claim she passed with flying colours.

But once she'd dug her black stilettos out of the PM's back with her opening remarks, after that she was relentlessly on message in hammering Labour on its policies on tax, immigration and crime.

She was at her most combative on the Tories' controversial allegation – first made by Rishi Sunak in his TV debate with Sir Keir Starmer on Tuesday – that Labour is planning a £2,000 tax grab if it wins the election.

This attack triggered the most heated clash of the whole debate, when Mordaunt traded blows with Labour's Angela Rayner on tax. It was a shouting match that went on long after presenter Mishal Husain attempted – but failed - to stop them.

It was all the more heated because the pair were standing next to each other at the end of the row of seven leading politicians, including Nigel Farage, the Lib Dems' Daisy Cooper and the SNP's Westminster leader Stephen Flynn.

For the rest of the debate, Rayner was slightly subdued, rather like Sir Keir had been against the PM on Tuesday. Rayner didn't even attack Sunak about D-day at the start. Nor did Daisy Cooper. Like Sir Keir, his deputy needs to raise her game.

Besides Mordaunt, on D-day Farage claimed Sunak had been unpatriotic and Flynn accused the PM of putting his own political career before public service and Normandy war veterans. Strong stuff.

Mordaunt also tore into Rayner over her previous voting record against renewing Trident. And the brightness of Rayner's red dress wasn't matched by a bright performance in the debate, although she improved as the debate went on. Mordaunt, incidentally, wore Thatcher blue. Remind you of anyone?

Throughout the debate, Farage was typically impish. His quips included claiming Starmer was "very dull" and "Blair without the flair". The PM, he joked, was "slippery Sunak". Yes, he's used those jibes before, but the audience enjoyed them.

Stephen Flynn had his good moments, most notably when he condemned Brexit, an attack on the Conservatives and Labour that the audience enjoyed.

But this debate was about Penny Mordaunt. It was her show, despite the large cast list. If she has been kept in a box by Number 10 up to now, the PM's allies will have been delighted on her attacks on Angela Rayner and Labour's policies.

But they won't have appreciated her blunt – and completely unprompted criticism – of the prime minister over the big story of the day, his D-day snub.

It was a story about a blunder of the PM's own making. It wasn't a gaffe, or an accident. It was sheer bad planning, terrible political judgment, embarrassing and highly damaging to Sunak and the Tory election campaign.

That, apparently was, Penny Mordaunt's view. And she said so. Number 10 won't be happy. A threat? You bet.

Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron has been the victim of a hoax video call and messages from someone claiming to be the former president of Ukraine.

The government said it was making the incident public to stave off any attempts to manipulate footage of Lord Cameron.

The Foreign Office said a "number of text messages were exchanged followed by a brief video call between the foreign secretary and someone purporting to be Petro Poroshenko, former president of Ukraine".

Mr Poroshenko served as Ukrainian president between 2014 and 2019, and has remained a prominent figure in the country since leaving office.

"Whilst the video call clearly appeared to be with Mr Poroshenko, following the conversation the foreign secretary became suspicious," the Foreign Office said, adding contact details for other people were requested by the caller.

"Whilst regretting his mistake, the foreign secretary thinks it important to call out this behaviour and increase efforts to counter the use of misinformation."

Politicians have received repeated warnings in recent months about the growing threat of misinformation and disinformation, especially as artificial intelligence technology improves.

The prime minister is not the only one whose feet are being held to the fire over D-Day 80th anniversary commemorations.

Northern Ireland's first minister has been criticised for not attending, with only the deputy going instead.

DUP leader Gavin Robinson said it had been an opportunity for Michelle O'Neill to act as a first minister for all.

"With men from across the island being remembered, I am disappointed that the deputy first minister was alone in Normandy and the other half of the joint office was absent.

"When we consider how so many from this island have only been able to openly remember their grandparents' war efforts in recent years, this was a missed opportunity for leadership and reconciliation."

He continued: "The first minister should recognise it was a mistake."

Mr Robinson also accused Rishi Sunak of undermining "the authenticity of the speech" he made at the British Normandy Memorial by departing early.

A spokesperson for the Executive Office said: "The Executive Office [TEO] receives many invitations and endeavours to attend as many events as possible.

"TEO is represented by the first minister, deputy first minister and junior ministers.

"This week, TEO was represented at events including the D-Day commemorations; business awards and the Your Time to Shine female leaders celebration event."

Crime is the last theme of the BBC's debate, with one audience member raising the issue of knife crime.

The Green Party's Carla Denyer says not all crime can be tackled by being "tough", explaining a generation of young people have grown up with services like youth centres closing.

Nigel Farage says "stop and search" must be done "in a very tough way".

"We are seeing a societal decline of law and order in this country," he says.

The Liberal Democrats' Daisy Cooper says the model of policing must be changed, with more community policing engaging with families and faith groups.

She says stop and search can be useful, but "suspicion-less" deployment of it has been used to target people.

Penny Mordaunt, the Conservatives Commons leader, says knife crime in London is "top of the list", but the host points out the West Midlands has a higher rate.

"We need more police and we need police who are embedded in communities," she says.

Labour's Angela Rayner says education and reversing cuts to neighbourhood policing is needed.

Rhun ap Iorwerth, of Plaid Cymru, says decision-making should be made closer to communities, calling for more devolution.

Stephen Flynn, of the Scottish National Party, says tackling poverty as a driver of crime is required, and those in poverty have been failed by the government.

The final 30 second concluding statements are under way. Angela Rayner goes first. "If you want change, vote Labour," she says, though it's as though she's memorising a script rather than talking with passion.

Carla Denyer, of the Greens, says Labour are offering more of the same and Labour has changed into the Tories. She got better as the debate went on. Iorwerth is lively and will have done his party some good here.

Penny Mordaunt is polished. "For a more secure future, vote Conservative," she says. She's been class here and shows why for the Tories, she's an underused asset. Daisy Cooper mentions sewage in rivers for the first time this evening. Why so late?

The last word goes to Nigel Farage, who says that unlike the others he doesn't need an autocue. He's right about that. He's been impish throughout, clearly enjoying himself. We'll see a lot more of him in this campaign. That's why he became party leader, of course!

We're staying with the BBC's seven-way political debate between senior figures in the UK's political parties.

"What matters to you more: Economic growth or successful climate policy?" asks an audience member.

Mr Farage says climate policies like net zero are unrealistic and unaffordable.

"Nigel is going to keep your fact-checkers busy for a little while. Farage has been misleading you... so much of what he said there is simply untrue," says the Greens' Carla Denyer.

She criticises Labour for dropping a £28bn green investment  pledge earlier this year.

Labour's Angela Rayner says there will be investment including insulating homes and creating green jobs, but oil and gas will be part of the future.

The SNP's Stephen Flynn says Westminster is betraying future generations and his party maintains its commitment to net zero.

"We are facing an ecological emergency", and economic growth can come with tackling it, says the Liberal Democrats, calling for a national insulation scheme.

"Nothing is more important than protecting the environment that you will be living in in future," says Plaid Cymru's Rhun ap Iorwerth.

The Conservatives' Penny Mordaunt says moving to green policies too quickly will "destroy supply chains".
