Puffins a plenty!

Great trip to the island and puffins, among all the many other birds, were a plenty. Loved every minute of it. Crew very friendly, efficient and informative. Could not ask for better service. Thank you, it was a great experience,

Perfectly timed for the arrival of 46,000 puffin pairs, alongside razorbills, guillemots, shags, cormorants eider ducks, kittiwakes, oystercatchers, and various species of gull. Warmly welcome on board from the Anstruther Pleasure Cruises staff and skipper who detailed the history of the island, wildlife, provided maps and safety information. Staff also pointed out many species on the water, including puffins, gannets and seals. Upon arrival, visitors were greeted by NatureScot staff who warmly welcomed visitors, provided information and ran through rules before allowing exploration of this wildlife haven. On return to Anstruther, we passed close to the cliff-faces which gave wonderful views of the many cliff-nesting birds. Highly worth a visit, both for nature and wildlife lovers, and as a great day out.

The staff on the boat where really lovely, captain did nice informative announcements. Great cuppa tea as well. Came home with a tiny stuffed puffin as well. Really enjoyed this trip and we will 100% go back when it's puffin season

Fantastic day trip to the May Island today. Skipper had excellent knowledge of the wildlife and island and his crew were exceptional. Good humour and conviviality from everyone on board. Well stocked bar with snacks and lovely crossing. Will definitely be back for another dook at the Alterstanes. Recommended for a fantastic day trip.

We were so lucky to have a beautiful day for our trip on the May Princess over to the Isle of May. The captain told us before we set off that the conditions for landing were not too favourable and if we couldn’t land then we would get half the price refunded. We thought this was really honest and fair and really appreciated it. Needless to say the captain did a fabulous job of safely navigating us through the very choppy waves. He got a well deserved round of applause. The crew were so friendly and helpful and constantly checking on us. The island is stunning and so peaceful. It was such a wonderful day out which we will remember for ever.

A wonderful visit to this fascinating island. We had originally booked for Thursday, but due to projected high waves we were offered the option to re-schedule to Wednesday or to have a full refund. As the weather was glorious we were happy to be able to re-schedule and really enjoyed the full afternoon. It was expensive for a family of four, but given the amount of time and the uniqueness of the trip it felt like reasonable value.

Passenger boat trip to the Isle of May

Anstruther Pleasure Cruises operate the May Princess, which is the passenger boat that can carry 100 people to and from the May Island in the Firth of Forth from April to September. We are licensed by the MCA for that number of passengers and licensed by Scottish Natural Heritage who own and manage the Island to make the daily landing. The May Island is a National Nature Reserve and Bird sanctuary with the largest puffin colony found in the UK. Added to that historic lighthouses and spectacular scenery.

The May Princess is moored up in Anstruther harbour on the Middle pier just opposite the Scottish Fisheries Museum. Post code KY10 3AB.

Public Transport Directions

The Bus stops right alongside the boat. From Edinburgh the X60 or X58 limited stop heading for St Andrews is the best option.
