For anyone travelling with TUI I hope this gives you a better idea of what to expect as we found information lacking and didn't really know what to expect! Basically it was very coach heavy but still enjoyable. This is based on a Wednesday - Sunday trip, with two excursions included (Northern Lights and Golden Circle)

Day 1 - Wednesday

That day we explored Reykjavik. We were told the Northern Lights tour may or may not be on but we would be informed via the TUI app and by text message after 2pm. It turned out to be cancelled that day and we did get a text and a message via the TUI app, in fact 7 identical text messages..!

Day 2 - Thursday

As the first full day this is the day of your Golden Circle tour. We were collected by coach at bus stop number 4 again (opposite our hotel) TUI tell you that you have to be prepared to wait for 30 mins. So if they say 8:30 pick up, it could be anytime between 8:30-9. The coaches are quite comfortable but the toilets are locked so you have to wait until you stop. The reps talk most of the journey with facts and information, it is interesting but you can also nap if you want to! The first stop was after 1hr 30 and was the Geysir. We had 25 mins so by the time we walked over you only got to see it erupt twice before having to head back. It was then just a short journey (5 mins) to the next stop which was the lunch stop at Gulfoss waterfall - and we had 1hr 30. The included lunch which was a very nice lamb and mint soup, there was a veggie option of a mushroom soup (my other half is a veggie who hates mushroom but loved it) it came with a bread roll, tea and coffee and a piece of chocolate cake. Be warned you have to sit on tables with people from your bus! Not for long though, once done you can get up and walk to the waterfall. Plenty of time here and you could walk to all the vantage points. Then 1 hour to Thingvellir National Park where the two tectonic plates meet. We were only given 20 minutes and it was not long enough to walk all the way down the path. I overheard someone say, they've given us the shortest amount of time for the longest walk! That was a bit of a shame. Then about 40 mins back to town. Free from about 4:00pm.

Northern Lights tour was on today - we were picked up and taken to a golf club about 30 minutes outside town, I was a bit disappointed as it was still quite bright, there was lots of headlights around and you could see the city lights on the horizon.. BUT we did see the lights! They were green and beautiful. There were bus loads of people all standing around so quite busy but a good atmosphere. There was a small clubhouse with toilets and you could get a hot drink if you wanted.

Day 3 - Friday

We had booked to go to The Blue Lagoon separately via Reykjavik Excursions as TUI only gave the option to go at 5:00pm which we thought was too late, however a storm came in and Reykjavik Excursions cancelled our trip but I asked the rep if we could get on that trip and they managed to get us on it at late notice thankfully was a relief as the storm had calmed down by then. During the day we went to Perlan Museum which was fun, lovely Northern Lights show in the planetarium and some ice caves. Plus a lovely cafe on the top floor with panoramic views. The Blue Lagoon was great, we started off with blue sunny skies, then in turned dark and we saw the northern lights, again! They were red this time. We felt very lucky indeed. Bit of an awkward time getting back though, gone 10pm. Too late for dinner, luckily had some crisps and snacks in our room.

Saturday - Day 4

We booked to go on the TUI south island tour or South Shore as they call it. Honestly I wouldn't bother with it, no where near as good as the Golden Circle. Our rep Lina was brilliant and had excellent local knowledge as she lives in the area but it was just a bit disappointing personally. 2 hours on the bus to arrive at a service station for a loo/coffee break, another hour to get to Skógafoss waterfall, for a 20 min stop, then 1 hour to Vik black sand beach for a 20 min stop then another 15 min drive to another service station type place where you can buy lunch (luckily we brought our own as the queues were crazy long) and a couple of nice wool/souvenir shops. You can walk to the beach from here too but it was all a bit boring. We had 1 hr 45 mins there. Afterwards we went to Seljalandsfoss waterfall where we had about 20 mins then it was 2 hours back to town. We got back about 5ish. I think our stops were shorter than normal as it was very snowy/icy at the waterfalls and the steps were too dangerous but they didn't do anything in place of that.

Sunday - Day 5

You are collected at 7:30am and taken to the airport. Our hotel served breakfast from 7:00am which was a bit late as we had to leave at 7:15 to get to the bus stop. I recommend taking something to each on the coach, it took about an hour to get to the airport and then it takes another hour to get through to departures, TUI has 8 coaches and they all arrive at the same time to check in so the queues are quite long, although they did move quickly.

So yes very coach heavy but a good way to see everything. Sorry it's a lot of info but hopefully someone will find it useful as I had no clue what to expect really. TUI doesn't give much information away!

Good report, helps folks understand what they are getting. Also shows a bit of the issue with a South Coast tour during minimal daylight time of the year

Some nice nimbleness there with the BL visit.

Tui 787 Long haul Flight review

Here is a long haul Tui flight review video , click here to subscribe

London Gatwick to Aruba LGW- AUA

Flight Number: TOM002

Route: LGW-AUA

Aircraft registration: G- TUIN (delivered Nov 2019)

Aircraft typer: 787-900

SOBT (Scheduled off blocks time):10:15

Flight time: 9 hours

TUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW GATWICK

Bag drop was so smooth at London Gatwick, well after some slight suitcase drama! Basically my suitcase broke on the train to the airport, the long handle would not manoeuvre downwards into its position and would only remain upright and sticking out, what do I do?

Leave it, hopefully the case will arrive in Aruba and will navigate itself through the automatic baggage system of converter belts behind the scenes at Gatwick or surely it would snap it off or knowing my luck get stuck and never be seen again?

Oh that reminds me if you need some suitcase packing tips n trick check this out

So anyway, I panicked and ended up buying a monstrosity of a case from a left luggage outlet and spent my £100 new Rayban Sunglasses budget for Gatwick duty free on a hideous case!

I quickly re packed my smalls (nothing small about them!) on the tiled floor of the suitcase outlet and proceeded on to the next possible drama of the day.

Did you always wonder why they have suitcase shops at the airport, well now you Know!

Oh here are the cases I use for travelling short haul low cost airlines as they are specifically designed to work with their strict baggage size requirements, take a look.

Security at Gatwick airport was a breeze and before I knew it I was angrilly walking past the Ray-Ban concession at Gatwick on my way to Wagamama for overpriced poached egg on avacado toast. I should have booked an airport lounge it would have been a lot cheaper!

GETTING A ROW OF THREE SEATS ON TUI TUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW

It was time to board this TUI 797 dreamliner and I took my seat on the plane I noticed around 50 empty seats on board and the last few trickle of passengers boarded and I anxiously awaited to see if the row of three was just going to be for my partner and I and BINGO the cabin crew announced

"boarding complete."

We pushed back around 20-30 minuets late, no big deal here! It came in late from Cancun I believe.

TUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW DUTY FREE

So I dread to think how the flight would have felt totally full, I think next time I fly TUI (or if?!) I would be inclined to splash the cash for premium economy. Unfortunately when I booked the holiday there only seemed to be 2-3 premium seats and none together so economy it was and I paid £21 each for two seats together in a row of 3 by the window.

Do Tui have USB cable ports on their planes?

I was very happy to see a USB cable port on my entertainment system, this meant I didn’t need to worry about my phone battery needing replenishing whilst listening to my audible account.

Oh audible plug here Did I mention I had audible? I always get the free 30 day trial before each holiday!

You also get a pair of headphones that fit into the port and the idea is you keep them for your return journey. After take off, drinks were offered by the cabin crew and again I was pleasantly surprised as I had assumed I'd have to pay for these with a holiday charter airline, but I was wrong! YAY!!

FREE DRINKS! YAY

The Food onboard Tui Airlines

Around 2 hours into the flight dinner was served, It was mushroom provincial pasta and I have to say it wasn’t too bad!

TUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW ONBOARD MEALS

What I did notice as an ex airline employee about the Tui flight review on long haul , so many things had been cut, taken away, cleary in some kind of cost saving objective.

no salt and pepper in the cutlery

no pretzels, snacks served with drinks

no inflight magazine

no starter on the meal tray set up

crackers and cheeses- no butter

no bread roll

no chick fillet sauce (that ones a joke)

It was just a very basic meal, the minimum, a hot part (what we called a hot bit or entree in airline language), cheese, cracker, plastic fork knife, tiny pudding.

Certainly nothing fancy on TUI! gone are the days of Britannia Royal service (perhaps your also British and In your 40's and recall this?)Oh the influence of low cost airlines and global economics have resulted in huge consumer shifts since 1990 in the airline industry!

Ugh even the carpets looked really worn! Its sad as this aircraft was delivered in 2019! but looked like a travelodge built in 1997, nothing dreamliner about it!

TUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW

A few hours later another drinks round was offered, then around 2 hours before landing an egg roll with a chocolate brownie, tea or coffee.

XTUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW

Not the most amazing flight I’ve had, but it got us there safely!

TUI DELAY TIPS

Have you been delayed by TUI? Are you flying with them soon? If you're delayed don't forget to save screen shots of any departure screens, app updated, receipts for expenses, make a note of the times.

You could be owed up to 600 Euros per person!

AirHelp will help you make any claim and make it super easy to get any flight delay money back.

Ok so now for the inbound flight from Aruba to London Gatwick

Aruba to London Gatwick AUA-LGW

Flight Number: TOM003

Aircraft registration: G- TUIJ (deliveredJun 2016)

Aircraft Name: Pixie Dust

Flight time: 8 hours 40 MINS

Once again we struck gold and after an anxious wait we had a row of three between us!

On TUI Long Haul flights back to the UK you do get,

a little fleece blanket

and a bottle of water

TUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW

I had this epic inflatable travel pillow I bought for the flight and I loved it, it really helped me to get a few hours sleep, leaning on it then shifting to relaxing my head on it! Those ones around the neck just don’t do it for me!

TUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW GATWICK

TUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW GATWICK

It looks strange but worked a treat!

Anyway I will leave a link to it here , it was really cheap and you blow it up, so it takes up no room at all if you are trying to travel light.

Entertainment onboard TUI flights

I watched a brilliant movie, the selection was quite decent! They also have the moving map, which is always a winner!

I then had a few hours sleep thanks to the pillow above :)

After a drinks service a crew member dropped off my meal before everyone else. I ordered a vegetarian meal, which was really easy to do with Tui, but what a shame, it actually had meat in it! Not great service!

TUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW GATWICK MEALS

Around an hour and a half before landing the lights were turned on full bright to be given this pathetic excuse for a breakfast, 4 cubes of melon and an orange juice.

Come on TUI this is dire you can do better, how much is a croissant or a danish? My last impression of TUI was this.....

TUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW GATWICK

So unfortunately I didn’t eat anything on the flight, the food was not acceptable at all, I got off the flight feeling hangry and tired.

Now luckily I had thought ahead at Aruba airport and bought myself a slice of Margarita pizza although it set me back close to £15!

A few days later I decided to email TUI about the poor catering, do they not know who I am? I have 250 subscribers to my Youtube channel!!! BIG MISTAKE! HUGE… I am a travel blogger hun, an Influencer and they will regret this! HA!!

I got a simple robotic generic response, thanks for your feedback we don’t give a flying f….. and know passengers book holidays based on cost and not wether they get a chunk of melon on the flight home!

TUI 787 LONG HAUL FLIGHT REVIEW

to be honest i did put a TikTok out about this which so far 50k plus have viewed so there TUI!!!

Take a look,

Follow me here on TikTok.

The verdict, flying long haul with tui.

I would fly with them again but I would have to fly premium and when you factor in that cost its probably better value to fly with Emirates or Qatar or a full service airline!

Flights on time

OK entertainment

Lots of room (thanks to a few empty seats)

Dreadful food

So that was my experience and Tui flight review on long haul.

have you got a long haul flight coming up soon? This article may help.
