CONCERT REVIEW: Macklemore Celebrates New Album ‘BEN’ With Joyous Amsterdam Crowd

Macklemore , the Grammy-winning rapper known for hits such as Thrift Shop and Can’t Hold Us , brought his energetic performance to an ecstatic Amsterdam crowd last night as he celebrated the release of his new album BEN with support from Tones And I (who would also make a surprise entrance twice during the setlist of Macklemore ). The concert was a non-stop party, with Macklemore impressing the audience not only through his dynamic performance but also engaging with them on a personal level, zooming in on a fan who named their cat ‘ Macklemore ‘, which was brought up by the rapper a multitude of times throughout the evening.

Together with Tones And I , Macklemore opened his energetic set with album-opener CHANT , a powerful and bouncy track that set the tone for the rest of the night. As fans danced and sang along to every word, Macklemore delivered a passionate performance filled with hits from his extensive catalogue as well as new tracks from the new album, which includes a whole bunch of features including Collett , Morray & the aforementioned Tones And I . Obviously, not all of the artists featured on the album could be there, but Macklemore didn’t let that stop him from delivering an incredible show. Having recorded videos of the artists who couldn’t be there, he seamlessly integrated those clips into his set in a way that made it feel like they were actually present on stage. The impressive use of multimedia elements didn’t stop there – during the performance, Macklemore also projected various visuals on a large LED screen behind him to enhance the overall experience for the crowd and brought along pyro-effects and confetti cannons to take the energy level up a notch.

While Macklemore’s cause for the tour was the brand new album BEN , Macklemore did not shy away from old material, with a special mention to his debut album The Heist , which was featured the most on tonight’s rather short setlist with hit singles such as Thrift Shop , the Grammy-winning Same Love , and last but most definitely not least Can’t Hold Us , which was the last song of the evening, leaving the fans on a high note.

Macklemore’s setlist was somewhat abbreviated, with only 14 songs played over the course of 90 minutes, but the speeches in-between songs added a personal touch and helped connect with the audience. Personally, I would have preferred to have more songs included in the setlist, but there’s no denying that every song that was played life was adequately brought to life with Macklemore’s signature high-energy performance style. There was a certain charm about his humble and gracious stage presence as well – despite being a Grammy-winning artist with millions of fans around the world, Macklemore maintained a down-to-earth vibe.

Macklemore’s show is not our ordinary concert or genre for that matter, as we’re usually found at rock, metal and more alternative shows, but Macklemore’s performance gave off Twenty One Pilots vibes to us, which is a huge compliment in our book. Accompanied by an outstanding band and backup dancers, Macklemore left the audience buzzing with excitement from start to finish.

In conclusion, Macklemore’s recent tour was an impressive showcase of his versatile performance style, highlighted by the seamless integration of multimedia elements and the use of pyro-effects, confetti cannons, and LED projections. His music translates very well to a live audience and Macklemore impressed with his vocals, and the maintaining of the vocals throughout the evening even with the excessive jumping around on stage.

Today, multi-diamond certified, GRAMMY® award winning artist Macklemore has released his latest studio album BEN, along with his latest single ‘ No Bad Days’ and accompanying music video, directed by his 7-year-old daughter Sloane . Watch HERE.

Macklemore has also announced North American dates for THE BEN TOUR produced by Live Nation, set to start on September 17 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, the 19-date tour will make stops across both coasts and the mid-west. Last night, Macklemore was the speaking guest on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon [watch interview HERE ] and will be performing a new track titled ‘Tail Lights’ – taken from his latest album – next week on Tuesday, March 7. This morning, Macklemore will be performing ‘No Bad Days’ live on NBC’s The Today Show.   

BEN is Mackemore’s highly anticipated third studio album. “ I’ve always wanted to make an album called Ben ,” he shares. “There’s something about a self-titled record. It has an air of voyeurism. I’m letting people in, but in a way that I hadn’t felt 100% comfortable about allowing before. I am now though.” hroughout 2020, he found himself with a rare pocket of time for introspection during the Global Pandemic—something not typically afforded to a father of three and touring musician… 

“ I did experience a level of reflection I don’t think I’ve been able to truly tap into in the past,” he affirms. “This mandatory pause and the time created a level of intimacy that might not have been there if the world had continued to operate how it was.” 

Joined by a tightknit group of collaborators such as Budo, Tyler Dox, and Experience, he ventured to the island multiple times for focused five-day trips. “ I’ve recorded in nature before, but I never had the opportunity to do so with no ending in sight,” he reveals. “We were removed from all external distractions. It just flowed. The idea was, ‘Let’s just make art, because we get to—not because we have to . Let’s capture that magic’ .” Harnessing this magic, Macklemore heralded the album throughout 2022 and 2023 with fan favorites; ‘ HEROES’ featuring the legendary DJ Premier, ‘CHANT’ ft Tones and I, ‘FAITHFUL’ Ft. NLE Choppa and ‘Maniac’ Ft Windser.  

On “ HEROES” [feat. DJ Premier ], a head-nodding beat laced with horn samples, a thick bass line, police sirens, and scratching sets the pace, Macklemore tells his story in dynamic, yet nostalgic bars, “Wanted a perm like DJ Quik, my mama said, ‘Ben, are you aware your hair is way too thin?’ But in my mind I was junior high Iceberg Slim . ” “I was raised by nineties boom-bap hip-hop,” he goes on. “It inspired me more than any other era. It was pivotal for me coming of age as a 15-year-old and figuring out who I was. ‘Heroes’ is the story of growing up in the late nineties, where hip-hop was at, where skateboarding was at, and where graffiti culture was at. It had a massive impact on where I ended up in my life. Premier is one of my favorite producers of all-time too. He had a massive influence on me as an artist and as a person. You know it’s him right away.” 

Then, there’s the single “ NO BAD DAYS” [feat. Collett ]. Upbeat guitar ushers Collett’s hook along at full speed as Macklemore counters in a catchy call-and-response. He assures, “Don’t gotta say goodbye, if you never wake up . ” “It’s just a vibe,” he observes. “It’s one of those songs you put on in the car, and you’re immediately in a better mood. I love making a record that I can’t wait to bump in the whip when it hits 70 degrees.” 

Elsewhere, “DAY YOU DIE” [feat. Sarah Barthel of Phantogram ] hinges on a steady beat punctuated by palm-muted guitar. Macklemore and Sarah ponder mortality with unabashed honesty, repeating “We all gone die . ” Vocal phenom LIVINGSTON lends his powerhouse pipes to “ SORRY, ” while the closer “ Tail Lights ” blinks through the haze with a sign of life encoded in the lyrics. “In recovery, there’s this idea where you’re essentially following your sponsor’s tail lights,” he reveals. “When I get someone to sponsor, they’ll follow my tail lights. Whose tail lights are we really following through life? It’s definitely the more introspective side of the album. What did I learn in the last four years of making this? What matters still?” 

Once you hear BEN , you’ll never look at Macklemore the same way. “ Songwriting is the glue for my entire career,” he leaves off. “If you’re not writing words that resonate, the music isn’t going to have depth, weight, or longevity. I’m not trying to follow. On this album, I’m being authentic to who I am. I’m reflecting on where I am in life. Turns out, I’ve learned a lot.”

Nineteen date trek kicks off Apr 2023

Multi-diamond certified, Grammy Award-winning artist Macklemore has unveiled the first leg of The Ben Tour, along with the official album artwork and pre-orders for his forthcoming studio full-length titled Ben , to be released on March 3rd, 2023.

The 19-date European stretch, produced by Live Nation, kicks off on Tuesday, April 4th at Dublin’s 3Arena, before the global hit-maker brings his electrifying show to cities in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark before wrapping in Oslo, Norway on Tuesday, May 9th. Additional 2023 shows are forthcoming.

Tickets are on sale Thursday, November 10th at 10 am local time via Ticketmaster .

The highly anticipated return to European stages comes after a huge year for Macklemore. Hot off the heels of his latest release “ Faithful ” featuring NLE Choppa, and accompanying Las Vegas stadium-fillers Imagine Dragons on their North American tour.

The official music video for his latest track “Faithful” featuring NLE Choppa is also out now. Directed by John C. Peterson and with his wife Tricia Davis as the creative director, the video cleverly depicts the dark forces of addiction and stars both Macklemore and NLE Choppa.

Macklemore celebrated the 10-year history since the release of the accolade and award-laden global debut The Heist . The RIAA organization also honored Macklemore & Ryan Lewis as one of the most successful duos of the last 65 years of RIAA Gold & Platinum history and officially certified “Can’t Hold Us” Diamond .

Macklemore has shared further details about his new album ‘BEN’ alongside announcing 2023 UK and European tour dates.

The US rapper is following up his last solo album, 2017’s ‘Gemini’, with ‘BEN’ on March 3, 2023 (pre-save/pre-order here ). Today (November 7) the artist has revealed the album artwork, which you can view further below.

Macklemore has announced a 19-date UK and European tour in support of his third album next year. It kicks off on April 4 at Dublin’s 3Arena before heading to the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Denmark, and wraps in Oslo, Norway on May 9.

Tickets go on general sale here from 10am local time this Thursday (November 10).

Macklemore’s return to the European live circuit comes off the heels of his latest release, ‘FAITHFUL’ featuring NLE Choppa. He also recently supported Imagine Dragons on their North American tour.

Last year, the rapper revealed in an interview that he relapsed on drugs during the COVID  pandemic.

Appearing on the  Armchair Expert  podcast with Dax Shepard, the ‘Thrift Shop’ rapper explained that he relapsed in 2020 after 12 years of sobriety.

Opening up on the brief blip in his sobriety, Macklemore said that he’d been inspired to speak out after Shepard admitted in a September 2020 episode that he too had relapsed after 16 years.

Macklemore Announces 2023 European Tour Dates

Lately, Seattle-born Diamond-certified rapper Macklemore (born Ben Haggerty) has been in the news. Constantly.

The lyricist has released a number of hit songs from “Maniac” to “Chant,” and he’s also alerted fans that there will be a new album, Ben , in 2023, set to drop in the spring (March 3).

Not to mention, he recently opened up about addiction and a recent buy-in to the Seattle professional hockey team, The Kraken.

But Macklemore’s newest announcement is a string of European tour dates, which he recently tweeted about, saying, “UK & EUROPE! TICKETS ONSALE TMRW AT 10:00AM… DON’T SLEEP!”

Macklemore will venture out on 19 dates—this on the heels of a successful North American tour over the summer with Imagine Dragons—that will kick off on April 4 at Dublin’s 3Arena. Other stops include the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, and more. The tour wraps up in Oslo, Norway on May 9. More shows next year are also expected to be announced.

Tickets will go on sale Thursday (November 10) at 10 a.m. local time via  Ticketmaster .

Macklemore’s most recent single, “Faithful,” features NLE Choppa. But one of his first popular tracks, “Can’t Hold Us,” was recently certified Diamond, to go along with “Thrift Shop,” which had already garnered that honor.

MACKLEMORE Announces North American Dates For ‘The Ben Tour’

Multi-diamond certified, GRAMMY® award winning artist Macklemore has announced North American dates for THE BEN TOUR produced by Live Nation, set to start on September 17 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, the 19-date tour will make stops across both coasts and the mid-west. Tickets will be available starting with Citi and American Express presales (details below) beginning Monday, March 6. General on-sale begins March 10 at 10am local time .

Teaching us the value of thrift shopping, rapper Macklemore aka Ben Haggerty (born 19 June 1983) from Washington, US whose collaborative outfit with producer Ryan Lewis made them one of the hottest musical acts of 2014.

Before assuming the alias Macklemore, as a child Haggerty took an interest in hip-hop at six years old listening to the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, Nas and Talib Kwali on the radio. Stepping up to the plate at 14, Haggerty began writing his own rap material largely influenced by the East Coast underground hip-hop scene emergent in the 90’s. With his eyes set on using his music to help forge relationships with younger communities, Haggerty became involved with music workshops for the project “Gateways for Incarcerated Youth”.

Initially performing under the moniker Professor Macklemore, he released his debut EP “Open Your Eyes” in 2000. Five years later and now simply now as Macklemore, he released his debut full length “The Language of My World”. Things all changed when Macklemore met producer Ryan Lewis a year later, who initially worked as Macklemore’s photographer. Forging a strong friendship, it wasn’t long before Lewis turned to producing a couple of Macklemore’s tracks. In 2009 the duo made the collaboration more of a permanent fixture, now known as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis they went on to release the “VS” EP later that year and the “The VS. Redux” (2010) which went straight to number seven on the iTunes hip-hop chart.

It was the 2012 “The Heist” album from the duo which truly sent them into the stratosphere, debuting at number two in the US charts, certifying platinum and clinching the top five chart positions in: Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The album featured the number one singles “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us Down” commandeering charts all over the globe and turning them into a worldwide sensation. Later that year, the pair embarked on “The Heist World Tour”.

At the 2014 Grammys, the duo cleaned up taking four awards including: Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap song. There’s no stopping Macklemore as he and Ryan Lewis are set upon taking over the globe with a legion of fans providing the ultimate backbone.

LIVE REVIEW Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, 2 pieces that fit perfectly together,2 pieces that make awesome music, good beats and amazing lyrics. Terrible leopard print fur-lined coats and black Spanish cowboys hats were everywhere. Young or old, they entertain their audience of all ages. Macklemore, aka Ben Haggerty, was born to be on stage. He was born to share his story of getting off drugs and alcohol and learning to respect that gay or not , we all deserve some respect for who we are and what we do. In between some songs, he had the time to tell and teach us about the important things in life, not like most other rappers, who preach about marijuana legalization. During songs like 'Thrift shop', 'Can't hold us' or 'white walls' everybody literally got crazy! The energy he has to perform those songs and to sing them with such an enthousiasm was unbelievable. With a spectacular concert like 'The Heist' you wont get the chance to sit down and check your facebook. You have to listen to the powerfull words that can mean the world to some people. If you want to go to a concert that tells a story or if you want to listen to music that can make you change your opinion about stuff such as alcohol, money or gay marriage, Macklemore tells his story to everybody through his awesome music.

My daughter bought me tickets for the Dec23rd show at Key Arena Seattle. I am not a rap fan by any means, but I do like several artists, and Macklemore is one of them. His lead up bands were absolutely god awful, but when he came on stage the place exploded. He went through all of his hits, and definitely is a master showman. Unexpectedly coming out of the rafters as Willy Wonka was awesome. Good fire show, and lots of confetti and fireworks. Very good show.

THIS WAS FUCKING AWESOME! It was the best night of me life! It was a big party and the show was amazing. Macklemore is just a great, inspiring and funny guy. He has songs with deep lyrics but also songs that you just want to sing along with really loud (that’s why I didn’t have a voice anymore the next morning). I will definitely see him next time he is in Holland again!

The most amazing experience ever!!! the opening acts were great and he was even better in person! the venue was very hot and everyone was sweating so much, and the seats were very small as they were a long bench, but everyone was standing up so it didn’t really matter. aside from the venue the show was amazing and i would definitely go again!!!

The Concert was awesome everyone was turned up everyone was dancing. I recommend the concert for any age there's just some language but its okay. You won't regret going you will have the best time you every would have. You will feel like the life of the party really liked it.

Best concert that I have ever attended. The show was packed full of great music. There was only some slight problems. There was to much time between the cover acts. Other than that, Macklemore put on a amazing show, and didn’t let the crowd down one bit!

This was an amazing show! I love Macklemore and it completely exceeded my expectations. I can’t wait to see him again. The fire was really cool and also when he came out on a rope as willy wonka. The little kids dancing were so cute. It was a great show

The concert of Macklemore was dope. He performed really well and made a real show of it. It was lots of fun. The lockers for your bags were a little expensive (€5.00). But apart from that it was amazing!
