The wait is nearly over for the biggest bike race of the year, the Tour de France 2024 . Like us, you'll probably be wanting to tune in and watch, so we've put together a comprehensive guide to exactly how you can watch everything from live coverage to highlights of this iconic Grand Tour.

It should be an exciting battle for overall victory, with four potential winners all vying for the maillot jaune. Reigning champion Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease A Bike), Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates), Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step) and Primož Roglič (Bora-Hansgrohe) are the men most likely, although newly-anointed Giro d'Italia champion Pogačar is the only rider to have come through the early season unscathed. The other three have missed training time after tangling with each other in the same crash in Itzulia Basque Country in April.

Vingegaard was the worst affected , and in early June there was still a question mark over whether he would definitely be at the Tour de France.

There are plenty of sprinting opportunities scattered throughout the race. Last year's green jersey Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) will be the man to beat, pushed hard others including Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) and Fabio Jakobsen (dsm-firmenich-PostNL). Many eyes will also be on Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan), who returns for his last Tour de France in the hope of finally beating the all-time 35-stage-win record that he is currently tied on with Eddy Merckx.

The final stage sees the race make way for the Paris Olympic Games and finish outside the capital for the first time in history, with a time trial from Monaco to Nice.

When is the Tour de France? 

The Tour de France will begin in Florence on June 29, and finish three weeks later on July 21 in Nice. Individual stages will be broadcast in full on Discovery+ .

How to Watch the Tour de France

The world’s greatest cyclists journey across France in the biggest race of the year and Peacock is the only place to see it all.

It’s time for cycling’s most anticipated event of the year. The Tour de France brings the best professional cyclists in the world together for a three-week cross-country race. The route is different every year, but the destination remains the same: A grand finish on Paris’ Champs-Elysées. No other competition is quite like it. Even if you don’t normally follow professional cycling, you’ll find yourself drawn in, captivated by the 21-day drama on display. If you want to see it all, there’s one place you need to be. 

What Is the Tour de France? 

The Tour de France is a massive bike race that takes cyclists on a three-week journey through France. With the exact route changing every year, this is a unique challenge unlike anything else on the cycling calendar. The race is broken up into stages, with each day covering a certain portion of the route. Each stage has its own winner, and the winner of the entire event is the person who has the fastest time of all 21 stages. Every stage matters. Even winning one, even if the rider doesn’t win the tournament, will boost that rider’s standing significantly. Only the absolute best, most competitive riders make it to the Tour de France, so tensions are high for the entire three-week race. 

This year’s event will take 176 riders through 3,404 km of road, hill, and mountain terrain. Multiple stages will force cyclists to climb for more than an hour straight. It’s a tough route that encourages athletes to take risks to get ahead. This year’s edition of the Tour de France is sure to be the most memorable yet. 

When Can I Watch Each Stage of the Tour de France

Where can I watch the Tour de France? 

The Grand Départ will be LIVE on both NBC and Peacock. After that, most stages will be exclusive to Peacock, but some will also be broadcast on USA. If you want to see every stage, including the finale on the Champs Elysées in Paris, you’ll want to make sure you have Peacock.

Can I Watch a Stage Later if I Can’t Catch it Live? 

Yes! In addition to full live coverage, Peacock will have full replays available of every stage of the Tour de France. You’ll also be able to stream highlights, recaps, interviews, and much more. Every replay will be available after the conclusion of each stage so you never have to miss a moment. The Tour de France is the most dramatic race on the calendar, so Peacock is making sure you get to see it all. 

Which Cyclists Should I Look Out For? 

Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard is definitely one to watch. He’s an absolute phenom and there’s absolutely a possibility of him repeating this year. He’s not the only favorite though. Tadej Pogacar, who won the Tour in 2020 and 2021, will likely fight for the top spot the whole way through. The battle between these two is one of the most-anticipated elements of this year’s race. 

Australian cyclists Ben O’Connor and Jai Hindley could also make some noise, as could France’s David Gaudu and Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz. They could even pose a threat to the top two favorites if things break their way. Cycling is a fickle and unpredictable sport, after all. There are also a few American cyclists worth paying attention to, particularly Matteo Jorgenson and Neilson Powless. Even if they don’t win the whole thing, or even podium, they have a definite shot at securing some stage wins. That alone is a career highlight for pro cyclists.

The Tour began July 1 with the Grand Départ in Spain before crossing into France on the third stage.

The Tour covers France’s five biggest mountain ranges, including eight mountain stages and four summit finishes.

The Tour will not have a time trial on the penultimate day as it did the last three years. Instead, the 20th stage, usually the last competitive stage for the yellow jersey, includes five significant climbs.

This is the first Tour since 2009 to include the last three men to win a Tour. That’s Dane Jonas Vingegaard, who went from a fish-packing facility worker years ago to the top of pro cycling in 2022; Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, who in 2020 became at 21 the second-youngest winner in race history, then repeated in 2021, and Colombian Egan Bernal, who in 2019 became the first South American to win the Tour.

Mark Cavendish, a 38-year-old Brit aiming to break his tie for the career Tour de France stage wins record of 34, crashed out in the eighth stage of his final Tour.

Tour de France 2022 Route stage 5: Lille - Arenberg

Lille hosted the Tour de France on dozens of occassions, although it has been awhile since the last ones. In 2014, Marcel Kittel sprinted to victory, while the penultimate visit occurred in 1994, and the finish before that was as far back as 1982.

The 5th stage of the 2022 Tour de France travels to Arenberg. The village is made famous by the Trouée d’Arenberg from Paris-Roubaix, but also hosted two Tour de France finishes. In 2010, Thor Hushovd pocketed a race with seven cobbled sectors, and in 2014 Lars Boom succeeded the strong Norwegian. That last stage was played in rainy conditions and saw defending champion Chris Froome crash out of contention, while Vincenzo Nibali took an advance on his eventual GC win with a solid third place.

The Tour last visited the pavé in 2018, when John Degenkolb won the stage, and in 2015, when Tony Martin took both the day honours and the yellow jersey. Those were both uneventful races.

Although the stage finishes in Arenberg, the famous Trouée d’Arenberg is not included in the race. Nor are other sectors from hell, such as Mons-en-Pévèle and Carrefour de l’Arbre. Obviously, the 5th stage will not be as hard as a regular edition of Paris-Roubaix, but it will be interesting to watch the GC riders navigate the medieval route on their modern bikes. Meanwhile, it’s a pretty sure bet that the likes of Tom Pidcock, Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert will go all out and take care of the spectacle that we are looking for.

Ein Massensturz auf regennasser Straße hat für Chaos auf der fünften Etappe des Critérium du Dauphiné und eine Neutralisation des Rennens gesorgt. 21 km vor dem Ziel auf der Abfahrt der Cote de Bel-Air kam es auf glattem Asphalt zu einem schweren Crash, in dem auch prominente Fahrer wie der Gesamtführende Remco Evenepoel (Belgien/Soudal Quick-Step) und Primoz Roglic von der deutschen Mannschaft Bora-hansgrohe verwickelt waren.

Wenige Stunden später gab Evenepoel Entwarnung: „Insgesamt ist es in Ordnung. Ich bin auf die rechte Seite gestürzt und auch auf den Kopf. Der Helm hat mich heute gerettet“, sagte der Gesamtführende der Plattform Road Code .

Roglic zeigte sich ebenfalls vorsichtig optimistisch - allerdings mit einer Einschränkung: „Es ist verrückt. Ein weiterer großer Sturz. Zum Glück bin ich ins Ziel gekommen. Ich bin ein bisschen besorgt, weil ich auf die Schulter gestürzt bin, an der ich in der Vergangenheit Probleme hatte“, sagte er - und ergänzte: „Das müssen wir überprüfen. Ansonsten geht es mir gut.“

Dauphiné: Etappe wird nicht gewertet

Nach langer Unterbrechung entschieden sich die Organisatoren für eine Neutralisation. Grund war ein Mangel an verfügbaren Krankenwagen, die Sicherheit der Fahrer konnte nicht mehr gewährleistet werden. Die Radprofis fuhren unter der Eskorte der Garde Republicaine ins Ziel in Saint-Priest.

„Auf dieser Etappe werden keine Zeiten genommen, und es gibt auch keinen Etappensieger“, teilten sie weiter mit.

Kruijswijk mit Krankenwagen abtransportiert

Nach dem Unfall waren Krankenwagen zur Unglücksstelle geeilt. Auf TV-Bildern war zu sehen, wie der Niederländer Steven Kruijswijk abtransportiert wurde. Sein Landsmann und Teamkollege Dylan van Baarle saß mit bandagiertem Arm im Straßengraben. Beide sind beim Team Visma-Lease a bike als Helfer des Tour-Titelverteidigers Jonas Vingegaard bei der bevorstehenden Frankreich-Rundfahrt (ab 29. Juni) vorgesehen. Critérium du Dauphiné 2024: Fahrer und Favoriten

An Top-Stars fehlt es auch beim diesjährigen Critérium du Dauphiné nicht. Primoz Roglic (Sieger 2022) hat ebenso gemeldet wie Juan Ayuso, Chris Froome, Rigoberto Urán, David Gaudu und Alexander Wlasow. Sepp Kuss und Jai Hindely sind ebenfalls am Start. Vorjahressieger Jonas Vingegaard ist nach seinem Crash bei der Baskenland-Rundfahrt nicht am Start. Die große Frage ist allerdings: In welcher Form wird Remco Evenpoel durch Frankreichs Berge rollen. Der Belgier war Anfang April ebenfalls bei der Baskenland-Rundfahrt in den schlimmen Massensturz auf der 4. Etappe verwickelt, brach sich dabei sowohl das Schlüsselbein als auch das Schulterblatt. Bei der Dauphiné-Rundfahrt hat ein Massensturz von etwa 30 beteiligten Fahrern zu einem Abbruch der Etappe geführt. Etwa 21 Kilometer vor dem Ziel auf dem fünften Teilstück nach Saint-Priest kamen mehrere Radprofis wegen der rutschigen Verhältnisse auf der Straße zu Fall. Die Veranstalter erklärten die Neutralisierung auf «X» (ehemals Twitter) mit dem Mangel an medizinischer Hilfe an der Strecke. «Auf dieser Etappe werden keine Zeiten genommen, und es gibt auch keinen Etappensieger», teilten sie weiter mit.

Unter den betroffenen Profis waren der belgische Gesamtführende Remco Evenepoel und der slowenische Superstar Primoz Roglic vom deutschen Team Bora-hansgrohe. Allerdings ging der Sturz für die Top-Fahrer am Donnerstag dem Vernehmen nach glimpflich aus, einige andere Profis mussten an der Strecke behandelt werden. Die Niederländer Dylan van Baarle und Steven Kruijswijk aus dem Team des Tour-de-France-Siegers Jonas Vingegaard verletzten sich und mussten das Rennen in Richtung Krankenhaus verlassen.

Der geteerte Asphalt war offenbar durch den Regen massiv rutschig. Bilder zeigten, wie Rennfahrer teils meterweit über die nasse Straße schlitterten.

Die Rundfahrt ist eine für viele Teams und Fahrer wichtige Vorbereitung auf die Ende Juni beginnende Tour de France. Am Sonntag endet das Rennen.

+++ 03.06.2024: Dauphiné: Roglic verpasst Sieg und Führung knapp +++

Radsport-Star Primoz Roglic vom deutschen Team Bora-hansgrohe hat den Etappensieg und die Gesamtführung beim Critérium du Dauphiné nur knapp verpasst. Der Slowene musste sich am Montag auf dem Col de la Loge im Sprint einer großen Gruppe nur dem Dänen Magnus Cort geschlagen geben. Dritter der 142 Kilometer langen Etappe wurde der US-Amerikaner Matteo Jorgensen.

In der Gesamtwertung ist Roglic ebenfalls Zweiter und liegt vier Sekunden hinter Cort. Die Grundlage dafür legten Roglic' Helfer Alexander Wlassow und Jai Hindley, die im Schlussanstieg das Tempo im Feld bestimmten, wodurch der französische Ausreißer Bruno Aemirail 200 Meter vor dem Ziel gestellt wurde.

Das achttägige Etappenrennen, das größtenteils in der Alpen-Region ausgetragen wird, ist die klassische Generalprobe für die Tour de France. Der Höhepunkt des Radsport-Jahres beginnt am 29. Juni in Florenz. Roglic gilt bei der Dauphiné als Favorit auf den Gesamtsieg. Zu seinen Konkurrenten zählt der Belgier Remco Evenepoel, der am Montag ebenfalls Teil der ersten Gruppe war.

Going into today, Cavendish had a 38-point advantage, and with 20 points on the line, Matthews could get closer to that green jersey. That said, Cavendish is one stage win away from breaking Eddy Merck's record, so we doubt he'll be giving anyone a chance.

The 2021 Tour de France is following its usual summer schedule, after last year's edition was delayed to the fall due to the coronavirus pandemic. That means it's been only nine months since Tadej Pogacar won his first Tour de France. 

Favorites in this year's race include Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) and Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers).

Cycling enthusiasts have several options for watching the 2021 Tour de France live stream.

ITV4 will have free, daily live coverage on TV from around 10:45 a.m. to 4:30pm local time. The ITV Hub will also feature live streams of the 2021 Tour de France.

Eurosport and GCN are also streaming the the race. A subscription to  Eurosport Player  costs £6.99 per month and £39.99 per year. The  GCN Race Pass is available in the UK and Australia and costs £39.99 for a year.

How to watch this year’s Tour in the UK, US and Australia

It's almost time to throw your winter and spring fitness out of the window, as you settle in to sit on the couch watching three weeks of wall-to-wall coverage of the 2024 Tour de France – plus another week in August for the Tour de France Femmes.

This year, there's something a little different on offer with the Grand Départ in Florence, and another three Italian stage starts before the race enters France.

Although it skirts Paris, it never makes it to the Champs-Élysées, heading back to finish in Nice.

If you’ve got five-plus hours to spend each day, you can watch the entire men's race end-to-end in many territories. For the more time-pressed, plenty of highlight options compress the day’s action to an hour or so.

If you’re really stuck for time, daily five-minute highlights on the Le Tour website – which are also posted to YouTube – will keep you abreast of all of the action.

Unlike many other big cycling races, terrestrial broadcasters pay attention to the Tour de France, so you can watch at least some of it subscription-free in most territories. There's a full list of broadcasters by country on the official Le Tour site.

There’s also the option to use a VPN to stream from a country with free terrestrial coverage, although most VPNs with decent geographic coverage and streaming speeds will require a subscription and you may have to listen to commentary in French.

How can I watch the Tour de France live in the UK?

In the UK, ITV4, and Eurosport/Discovery+ are broadcasting live. ITV4 is free to air, as is S4C for Welsh speakers.

Eurosport requires a subscription: £6.99 per month or £59.99 per year.

There's coverage on TG4 in the Republic of Ireland.

How can I watch the Tour de France live in the US?

Viewers in the US can enjoy daily coverage on NBC Sports and Peacock. You can watch on NBC on demand too – there's no additional charge above your cable, satellite or telco TV provider's subscription cost.

Peacock access requires a subscription to its premium tier, priced at $5.99 plus tax per month. There's currently a deal at $19.99 for a year's access for new subscribers.

How can I watch the Tour de France live in Australia?

Cycling fans in Australia can enjoy every stage live on SBS . Handily, there’s a free on-demand service if you’re not an insomniac, while there are daily highlights on the SBS Sport website. There's coverage and more on the SBS Tour Tracker app too.

Stages and start times

Like the race itself, stage start times are a moveable feast, with starts as early as 11.15am CET and as late as 2.40pm CET.

End times will vary significantly too, depending on stage length, how hard the terrain is and how fast it’s ridden.

Fortunately, the Tour de France has organised a few of these races before, so it’s got a pretty good idea of when the first riders are likely to reach the finish.

Again, that’s highly variable – anything from 4.28pm CET to 7.30pm CET, so you need to be on your toes to make sure you're watching early enough not to miss the end-stage action.

Here’s a table, taken from the official Le Tour website, of expected start and end times for each stage. If you want to see particular action, the time the race is expected to reach intermediate points is set out on the site too, right down to railway level crossings and tiny villages in la France profonde .

5. Etappe neutralisiert Topstars in Massensturz bei Dauphiné-Rundfahrt verwickelt

Die fünfte Etappe der Dauphiné-Rundfahrt konnte nach einem Massensturz nicht regulär zu Ende gebracht werden.

Die Etappe hätte über 167 Kilometer von Amplepuis nach Saint-Priest führen sollen. Doch 21 Kilometer vor dem Ziel stürzten etwa ein Dutzend Fahrer auf regennasser und rutschiger Fahrbahn.

Sowohl die Topfahrer Primoz Roglic (Slowenien) und Remco Evenepoel (Belgien) als auch der Deutsche Nils Politt waren in den Sturz verwickelt. Sie konnten aber trotz einiger Blessuren weiterfahren.

"Ich glaube nicht, dass jemand daran Schuld ist" , sagte Evenepoel nach dem Unfall: "Es war etwas unglücklich für mich, ich habe den Sturz fast verhindert, aber ein anderes Rad wurde unter meinem eingeklemmt, und ich bin auf dem Boden gelandet." Komplette Entwarnung konnte der 24-Jährige noch nicht geben. Er glaube zwar, er sei okay, "aber ich werde morgen früh vor dem Start der sechsten Etappe mehr wissen."

Zwei Fahrer im Krankenhaus

Die Niederländer Dylan van Baarle und Steven Kruijswijk wurden hingegen ins Krankenhaus gebracht. Beide sind beim Team Visma-Lease a bike als Helfer des Tour-Titelverteidigers Jonas Vingegaard bei der bevorstehenden Tour de France (ab 29. Juni) vorgesehen.

Da damit alle Krankenwagen im Einsatz waren und damit keine weitere medizinische Hilfe hätte gewährleistet werden können, musste das Rennen neutralisiert werden, das Feld wurde von der Polizei eskortiert ins Ziel gebracht. Die Etappe wird nicht gewertet.

Hello and welcome to Cyclingnews' live coverage of stage 2 of the 2024 Critérium du Dauphiné.

Just over half an hour to go before stage 2 gets underway in Gannat.

Today features the first uphill finish of the race and plenty of climbing beforehand as the riders tackle four classified climbs before the finale.

Mads Pedersen is in the race lead heading into the stage having won Monday's opener . He beat Sam Bennett in the bunch sprint finish.

Here's a look at the stage 1 results and GC heading into today.

The peloton have rolled out in Gannat to start the neutral zone on stage 2.

A 3.6km neutral zone to start the day.

And we're away. The flag has dropped and stage 2 is underway!

Early attacks fly at the head of the peloton.

Bruno Armirail (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) is away with Jonas Gregaard (Lotto-Dstny), Xandro Meurisse (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Mathis Le Berre (Arkéa-B&B Hotels), and Filippo Conca (Q36.5).

The five-man move currently has 45 seconds on the peloton.

This looks like the breakaway of the day. Their advantage is approaching a minute now.

Cort is also the new race leader with a four-second advantage over Roglič. Jorgenson is third at six seconds.

Here's what Cort had to say after the stage...

"It's amazing. It's a big race here in the Dauphiné. Joining Uno-X for this year, I didn't have the best start of the season. I struggled a little bit I didn't get any big results and then I had an injury in Tirreno on was out for a long time and it's amazing to come back and and take a stage win here.

"It was out of my control and the team because I was very much on the limit on this climb. On the steeper parts, I couldn't go any faster but the team did an amazing job pulling a little bit and also bringing me completely to the front so I could lose some metres being at the back of the group. Once the steeper parts were done and they brought me back again and delivered me perfectly in the final."

Dauphiné | Van Baarle en Kruijswijk lopen breuken op - inderdaad streep door Tour de France

Dylan van Baarle en Steven Kruijswijk dragen de gevolgen van hun zware valpartij in het Criterium du Dauphiné nog wel een tijdje met zich mee. Het medisch verdict is binnen en dat liegt er niet om. Van Baarle brak zoals gevreesd zijn sleutelbeen en Kruijswijk kampt met een gebroken heup. Dit betekent dat beide renners niet namens Visma | Lab van start kunnen in de Tour de France.
