How do other British Airways reviews compare to Top 10 Travel Agent Reviews?

There are two types of Travel Agency reviews that you can come across online – expert reviews and the more traditional customer travel agent reviews.

  • The expert travel reviews will usually provide you with an unbiased evaluation of a UK-facing online travel agency and will be highlighting its pros and cons. Like our Virgin Holidays review .
  • A customer Travel Agency review, on the other hand, will offer a more subjective view of an OTA website. It will be sharing personal, mostly bad experiences and will most likely focus on that certain feature.

If you booked with a travel agent or on travel website

How do I get help with my booking / ticket if I had booked it with a travel agency/online travel company?

The travel agent/travel website that made your booking with is the "owner" of your reservation and is responsible for helping you before or during your journey, as part of your contract with them. This should include making any changes you need, correcting a ticket if there's a spelling mistake in a name, or cancelling your tickets if you're unable to travel, as well as providing other travel advice and adding service requests.

The following extra pieces of information might help you: * You will need your British Airways booking reference to be able to use our  ba.com 'Manage My Booking' system - your travel agent will have this, and it should be mentioned in the emails/documents they send to you. In compliance with data protection regulations, we're unable to provide this reference to you - you must contact your agent. * If you a query with your baggage allowance (maybe your email e-ticket receipt from the agency shows a different allowance than the  baggage information you have read on ba.com), please ask your agent - it could be that either their documentation needs updating, or maybe the conditions of your ticket are different than what you expected. * The agency will be issuing your ticket , so if there are any problems using our  ba.com check-in facility because our system can't find your ticket number for the flight, you must contact your travel agency to ensure they add it so our systems can see it.

* If you have an Executive Club or On Business membership number , your agent should always add it into your booking so that your rewards are automatically credited to you, and your flight will show in your account on ba.com....and please let them know how your name appears on your account so they can match it.

Our Customer Support teams will need to complete UK Data Protection validation if you do ring them and your booking was made with a travel agency - can you please make sure you have your passport details to hand when you phone them, as this information will be part of that required.

(Any text in blue is clickable and will take you to relevant sections/pages of ba.com )

How well did this answer your question?

Published answers.

  • Correcting or changing the name on a ticket
  • Your e-ticket receipt - before you travel / during your journey
  • Reconfirming British Airways flights
  • Correcting your ticket after a change in your booking

Join the conversation, two-minute travel tip: how to call british airways for free.

If you have ever had cause to call British Airways Executive Club, you will no doubt be all too familiar with the seventh circle of hell your mind enters as you wait… and wait… and…

british airways contact for travel agents

The ‘soothing’ voice repeatedly telling you that anything you need can be sorted out on the website, when it definitely can’t (hence the call!) is my personal highlight, but others prefer the ‘relaxing’ sounds of BA’s own classical guitar version of “The Flower Duet” (from Leo Delibes’ opera, Lakmé – in case you’ve ever wondered):

I’ve spent so much time over the years (usually early in the morning when BA have inexplicably cancelled my flight) listening to that piece of music, that even just the opening bar produces a Pavlovian jolt of instant stress!

If you do have to call British Airways , after about 30 minutes of waiting (I can’t remember ever waiting for less than that), what remains of your mind might begin to wonder how much the call is costing.

Yes, to truly add (financial) injury to insult, you get charged 7p per minute for the privilege of waiting to speak to someone. The fact that BA doesn’t employ enough customer service staff, has a website that lacks key functionality, and may or may not have just cancelled your flight, is completely immaterial.

british airways

7p per minute might not sound like all that much, but you’ve got to take into account that your call can easily take well over an hour, depending on how bad the wait is.

Paying a company £4.20 per hour for wasting your time might appeal to some people, but I suspect it’s likely to remain a minority interest.

I can’t help with the waiting times (I really wish I could – seriously, if anyone has any tips, please let me know!), but I can help with the cost.

British Airways Executive Club lists two main phone numbers for customers from the UK:

  • The usual number is 0844 493 0 747. This is the number that costs 7p per minute.
  • The other number is supposed to be for when you are away and need to call from abroad, +44 191 4907901.

Note that the second number is actually just a local number (Newcastle area?) with the UK country code tacked on the front.

ba call centre

Therefore, you should be able to use that number and pay local rates simply by dropping the +44 and adding a 0 instead, so 0191 4907901.

If you try that though, the BA ‘soothing’ voice tells you that the number you have called can only be accessed from abroad and that you need to call the 0844 number instead.

The solution is to simply to add 141 to the start of the number when you dial, as this stops BA’s system knowing where you are calling from.

The number to use is: 141 0191 4907901

Being a local UK number, many people will be able to call completely for free on their landlines if calls are included in their package, and anyone who gets free/included minutes as part of their mobile contract can use their minutes.

So next time you need to call British Airways, as painful as it sometimes is, at least you won’t have to pay!

The British Airways Executive Club call centre in the UK is only open from 07:30 to 20:00, which isn’t ideal if you’re in a different time zone or have an early/late flight that gets cancelled.

They do have other offices around the world that are open at different times, but finding out what is open when and how to contact them can be surprisingly difficult.

Fortunately, a character named ‘Dunk’ over on the US-based travel forum Flyertalk created the  BA Contact Finder  page. The Contact Finder is extremely easy to use and instantly tells you which offices are open at any given moment and how to contact them – thank you ‘Dunk’!

I’m sure I tried the 141 + overseas number trick before and it didn’t work, maybe something changed? There are other options:

Using the very useful,. but not exactly ‘contemporary’ design website, Saynoto0870 which maintains a crowd sourced list of alternative geographical numbers for many companies. This link ( http://www.saynoto0870.com/companysearch.php ) takes you to the search page, where you can enter the expensive number 0844…. or the company name.

There are a *LOT* of entries for British Airways, but I have had success before now with the numbers listed for silver or gold members, and they are 0800 numbers (I am only a Blue member, and once you get passed the initial welcome message, I suspect you get to the same bunch of people) YMMV, but the worst that can happen is they refuse to help you and you have to re-dial.

If you have a BA branded Amex, call them (it’s free) and select the Avios option from the menu, that gets you through to BA too.

I seem to recall reading somewhere of an Ofcom ruling that companies shouldn’t make customers pay premium rates to call them, and just after that Virgin changed their customer service number to 03 numbers. That ruling obviously passed BA by?

23 March 2016 at 10:05 am

Thanks for the additional info Ian!

I can confirm that the 141 + overseas number trick still worked from my mobile and landline as of yesterday.

Saynoto0870 is a fantastic resource, but you’re not wrong about its somewhat retro style… I’ve never actually tried the 0800 numbers for members with status before, so didn’t want to write about them, but it’s good to hear they work.

The BA branded Amex tip is a great one (and one I genuinely had no idea about)! Some mobile contracts don’t include 0800 numbers in the included minutes (in which case it’s best to use the 141 number in the post), but from a landline (particularly if you don’t have calls included as part of the package) that’s ideal.

23 March 2016 at 2:19 pm

0800 numbers should be free from all mobiles as well. Ofcom made a ruling on this at the same time as they simplified charges to 08, 09 service numbers with the “access charge” and “service charge” elements. This should apply from July last year, according to this rather dry Ofcom article: http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/telecoms/policy/non-geo-call-services/ A simpler, more consumer friendly summary is here: http://www.ukcalling.info/whats-happening

23 March 2016 at 2:43 pm

That’s good to know – even I learn something new most weeks on InsideFlyerUK!

23 March 2016 at 9:27 am

Oh forgot one more option, book a First class flight, then you get a freephone number to call, but it’s probably cheaper to pay the £4.20/hour!

Don’t really see the logic in that, those who have paid £000’s for their flight, wouldn’t want to pay for a phone call??

The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 were published by BIS on 13 December 2013 and came into force on 13 June 2014. Regulation 41 requires retailers, traders and passenger transport companies to use numbers starting 01, 02, 03 or 080 for after-sales enquiries and issues. This includes, amendments, upgrades, downgrades, cancellations, refunds, complaints, etc. Calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers are inclusive in allowances else charged at “geographic rate”. Calls to 080 numbers are free-to-caller on landlines and on mobiles.

In offering a premium rate 084, 087 or 09 number, in this case an 0844 number, BA appears to be in breach of the regulations.

The cost of calling the 0844 number is not 7p per minute. The actual cost is 7p per minute plus an Access Charge of up to 55p per minute.

In cases of non-compliance, Regulation 41(2) gives callers the right to a refund of any excess call costs incurred over and above whatever an equivalent call to an 01, 02 or 03 number would have cost.

Complaints can also be directed to the Citizen’s Advice national Consumer Helpline on 0345 404 0506. They can escalate to Trading Standards where necessary.

BA does advertise an 0344 number for some, but not all, functions. This does not go far enough.

30 May 2017 at 1:13 am

The Sun reports on BA’s errant usage of a premium rate 0844 number for after-sales enquiries… https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/3677218/british-airways-faces-fresh-fury-over-travel-chaos-for-telling-customers-to-ring-premium-rate-helpline/

30 May 2017 at 8:34 pm

Less than 24 hours later, BA has seen the light and scrapped their premium rate 0844 telephone number.

Upon calling the old premium rate 0844 number you are now directed to hang up and re-dial either a free-to-caller 0800 number if your call is about the ongoing recent incident or an inclusive or geographic rate 0344 number for all other enquiries.

BA’s website has also been updated with the new details.

30 August 2017 at 3:25 pm

British Airways are still breaking the law by misrepresenting the cost of calling their 0844 493 0 747 Executive Club number.

They tell Executive Club members to call 0844 493 0 747, wrongly claiming that “calls charged at 7 pence per minute”, but the truth is that Access Charge means that the total charge is up to 62p per minute.

https://www.britishairways.com/travel/contact-executive-club/public/en_gb

Worst of all, BA are wilfully breaking the Equality Act 2010 by asking people with a hearing or speech impairment to call Minicom 0845 700 7706 (up 60p per minute but BA show it without any of the mandatory pricing information) while those without a disability can call an 0344 number (free or charged at Basic Rate).

Having transferred 26520 avious points to me BA account within 24 hours they were removed by BA saying they were out of date no amount of emails or telephone calls seem to be able to get hold of anybody to correct this problem phone calls telling one to wait for one hour is no good to anybody not enough staff on the complaint desk maybe The same problem seems to be at HEATHROW term three we waited nearly one one for luggage told by BA staff only one man to unload complete plane load of luggage Seems like a complete rubbish airline if you ask me .

31 May 2018 at 10:59 am

That sounds terrible! Is there any indication at all (written on the avios activity bit of your account or something maybe) why the Avios were removed? I know it’s annoying but keep challenging them until they sort it – good luck!

James corden defended by passengers after exchange with british airways staff, james corden exchange with airline staff ... passengers take his side.

  • Exclusive Details

James Corden wanted to get to the bottom of an international air travel snafu, seeking out airline employees ... and this time he's got the public on his side.

The comedian was photographed at an airport in Portugal appearing agitated with several British Airways staffers ... chatting them up after some travel issues, a welcome sight for others on board.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... while he might've looked peeved, he was actually just talking to airline employees and seeking info. There were reports James confronted the crew but we're told he didn't confront anyone ... and wasn't "venting frustration" either.

James was on a plane from Portugal to the UK, but the passenger jet had to make an emergency landing in Lisbon after a mechanical issue with the wings ... with passengers saying they were told to brace for impact and possibly head for the emergency exits.

Once on the ground, James and his fellow fliers reportedly were kept on the plane for 3 hours as it sat on the tarmac ... a sure recipe for sowing discontent among travelers.

The process didn't get much smoother once they were let off the plane, JC and others were herded to an immigration area but there were no BA staffers directing them and it turned into another big mess.

James was photographed speaking with the airline crew, and people who were on the flight defended his actions to media outlets ... a contrast to some of James' prior public spats, like his old beef with a NYC restaurant owner .

This time, the travelers say James was totally in the right for his exchange with British Airways staffers ... and they say he also provided the entertainment during the 3-hour ordeal on the tarmac, telling jokes and taking pics as he walked up and down the aisle.

We reached out to British Airways ... so far no word back.
