Jodhpur, the second-largest city in Rajasthan (albeit pleasingly unspoiled by haphazard development), has a fascinating past. Located on the edge of the Thar desert, about 155 miles from the border with Pakistan, Jodhpur is, in fact, where the eponymous pants got their name from! These unusual pants were designed by the Maharaja of Jodhpur's son, Pratap Singh, and worn by his polo team when visiting the Queen of England in 1897. It is famous for its blue buildings, initially painted to signify that they were occupied by Brahmins, the highest caste in India.

This list of top Jodhpur attractions and places to visit will give you a diverse city experience. Jodhpur Heritage Walk conducts an immersive three- to four-hour guided tour through the city. If you have a spare day or two, visit nearby Bishnoi village or Osian, where you can see carved temples and go on a less-touristy camel safari.

Explore Mehrangarh Fort

Imposing Mehrangarh Fort, which rises above the "Blue City," is one of the largest and most famous forts . As impressive as it is, as a well-preserved heritage structure, there's so much more to discover inside. The fort has been privately restored, and its museum has an outstanding display of royal memorabilia, including about 15,000 items from Maharaja Gaj Singh II's collection. It also has the only professional museum shop in India. The cultural performances that happen daily at various places inside the fort, as part of the particular focus on folk art and music, are another highlight. Plan your visit with this complete guide to Mehrangarh Fort .

Want a romantic evening dinner? The Chokelao Mahal Terrace restaurant serves traditional Rajasthani cuisine, which sparkles below. The Fort is also an evocative setting for music festivals. Don't miss the annual Rajasthan International Folk Festival in October and World Sufi Spirit Festival in February .

Ride the Jodhpur Flying Fox

Adventure lovers can't pass up the unique opportunity to zip-line with Mehrangarh Fort as the backdrop. The circuit has six zip lines and takes around 90 minutes to complete. Groups of up to 12 people depart at appointed times. It's located on the north side of the Mehrangarh Fort.

Relax at Jaswant Thada

In honor of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, this intricately crafted cenotaph (empty commemorative tomb) was built in 1899. It features white marble lattice screens and whimsical domes, while the inside is adorned with portraits of Rathore rulers. It's a peaceful place to relax and enjoy stunning views of the Fort and city. Many a tired tourist sprawls on the front lawn to recuperate after sightseeing.

Wander Through Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park

The Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park was developed in 2006 to restore the natural ecology of a large rocky wasteland area next to the Fort. Neglected for many years, the park was overrun by an invasive thorny shrub. After the bush was eradicated, more than 80 native species of rock-loving plants from the Thar desert were grown there. The Park extends 70 hectares (around 200 acres) of rehabilitated land and has a walking trail. It's interesting to explore at different times of the year, as its foliage changes with the seasons.

Check Out the Clock Tower and Old City Markets

A trip to Jodhpur wouldn't be complete without visiting the bustling Old City. Many people choose to stay in this area, too, as some of the best budget hotels in Jodhpur are located there and have fabulous Fort views. The Old City's famous landmark, the clock tower, stands at the heart of it—and it's still working! Next to it, Sadar Market retains a traditional village bazaar feel. It's chaotic and colorful and sells almost everything, including handicrafts, spices, saris, and fabric. If you feel uncomfortable in crowds, you might prefer to take a walking tour rather than explore the market area yourself, as the congestion can be overwhelming. These walking tours offered by Jodhpur Magic and Virasat Experiences are two recommended options.

Dine Overlooking the Step Well

Travel and Still life photography/Getty Images

An exciting Urban Regeneration Project is being undertaken to transform the Old City into its former glory, but with a vibrant and hip spin. As a result, Jodhpur has a newly restored yet ancient stepwell, located just north of the clock tower. Built in the 1740s and called Toorji ka Jhalra, it sat stagnant for years until the owners of the new heritage boutique RAAS hotel purified the pool and sandblasted the steps. The area has been turned into a contemporary square with cool cafes and shops, including a Good Earth home decor store and a branch of Jaipur-based Gem Palace. A secret door at the RAAS hotel will take you directly to Step Well Square. Step Well Cafe has the same owners as RAAS and provides the best view over the stepwell. It serves Continental and Indian cuisine, plus alcohol. However, its menu is quite limited.

Stroll Along the Streets of the Blue City

Unlike the crowded clock tower area, the blue part of Jodhpur behind the fort, known as Navchokiya, is refreshingly quiet and devoid of tourists. Don't miss spending some time leisurely strolling along its streets. It's also possible to go on a guided walking tour of the area to learn more about it. You can even stay amid the blue houses: Some of the top options in the area are  Singhvi's Haveli ,  Jewel Palace Haveli , Rani Mahal, and Jaswant Bhawan Homestay .

Tour the Area Around Gulab Sagar

About 10 minutes walk north of Toorji ka Jhalra stepwell is Gulab Sagar. This 18th-century lake played an essential role in Jodhpur's traditional water management system. Not only does it provide a superb spot for photographing Mehrangarh Fort in the background, but there are also many interesting step wells and temples hidden in the lanes around it. They include Mahila Bagh Ka Jhalra step well and Kunjabihari Temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. You can discover them on this Step Wells and Temples walking tour .

Marvel at Umaid Bhawan Palace

Magnificent Umaid Bhawan Palace, completed in 1944, was one of India's last grand palaces to be built. The royal family of Jodhpur still occupies a section of it. Most of the remainder has been converted into a luxurious palace hotel, and unfortunately, it's off-limits to anyone who's not staying there. If you can't afford $600 or more per night for a room, you can still get a glimpse inside the palace by having a pricey dinner at one of its restaurants or visiting the museum. The museum mainly displays old photos of the Maharaja and his family. There's a vintage watch and car collection as well. If you're into that kind of thing, it's worthwhile going there. Otherwise, you may be disappointed as you'll get to see very little of the palace.

Take a Cooking Class at Spice Paradise

Spice Paradise is a spice shop run by a kindhearted husband and wife team (their unique masala chai blend has been refined and perfected over the years and is highly recommended). In their humble kitchen, they also conduct Indian cooking classes, which are hugely popular with foreigners. Along with delicious recipes, you'll get to meet a lovely family and gain priceless insight into Indian culture. If you don't have much time in Jodhpur, do book in advance as classes are often full.

Sample Some Indian Sweets

If you love not just Indian sweets but all kinds of Indian snacks, you'll want to visit the iconic Janta Sweet Home , renowned for making some of the best treats in Jodhpur. They're fresh and delicious, and the range is vast. Try the Mawa Kachori, a prestigious dish that originated from Jodhpur.

Shop at Sambhali Boutique

Sambhali Boutique is the perfect place to pick up some high-quality Jodhpur handicrafts and clothing in Indian and Western styles. All products are made by underprivileged women taught and employed by the Sambhali Trust. Items include silk and cotton camels and elephants, block-printed scarves and curtains, and shoulder bags. Custom orders can also be placed.

If you're looking for cheap accommodations, the Sambhali Trust operates from a very charming little guesthouse (the Durag Niwas Guest House ) that's a hit with backpackers. Long-term stays with all meals provided are possible.

Visit Mandore and Mandore Gardens

Mandore was the capital of the Marwar region before Jodhpur was founded, but now it's in a neglected state. There's an old fort, an eclectic collection of temples and cenotaphs, and a small museum in the Mandore Gardens. The gardens are beautiful, albeit unkempt in places, and used as a local picnic spot. They're worth visiting for the fantastic architecture and history of a bygone era. The best time to go is during the week when it's quietest. If you love monkeys, you'll find plenty there! But be careful that they don't snatch your food!

Situated at 410 feet above the city, Mehrangarh Fort was built by Rao Jodha in 1459 AD when he transferred his capital from Mandore to Jodhpur. The fort was named Mehrangarh, meaning 'Fort of the Sun'. Though the fortress was originally started in 1459 by Rao Jodha, most of the fort which stands today dates from the period of Jaswant Singh of Marwar (1638 -78). Today, this fort is preserved and owned by Maharaja Gaj Singh II - the current Rathore ruler. According to popular folklore, it is believed that to develop the Mehrangarh Fort, the Rao Jodha displaced a hermit called Cheeria Nathji (The lord of birds), who was the hill's lone human occupant. Built in the 1740’s, this step well was one of the main sources of water during ancient times.  Like all of the step wells you will see throughout India, the Toorji Ka Jhalra bavdi has multi-level steps allowing you to reach the water at any level.

Unlike the famous step well in Jaipur where the guards will either not let you in or charge you a “fee”, this place is completely free.

› Mehrangarh Fort

As one of the largest forts in India, the Mehrangarh Fort was once a palace and now a museum. It was the most well preserved fort that we visited during our stay in India and the museum was very informative. When you purchase your ticket the cost includes a free audio guide.

› Get Lost Wandering the Blue Streets

Spend the day wandering aimlessly through the azure colored streets and admire all the stunning architecture which dates back to more than 150 years. You can get easily walk from the main clock tower, through the alleys and all the way around to the back side of the Fort.

› Climb Rooftops for the Best Views

There will no doubt be plenty of rooftops where you can capture those stunning shots of the Mehrangarh Fort and the iconic blue houses of Jodhpur. A lot of these views can be found by heading up to one of the many rooftop cafes. And don’t feel like you have to order a full meal. You can easily just get something to drink and enjoy the view.

› Jaswant Thada

Located a short distance from the Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada is a cenotaph built in 1899. This white marble mausoleum serves as the cremation grounds for the royal family of Marwar. The main structure stands in the middle of a beautiful garden surrounded by stunning views of Jodhpur.

› Pachetia Hill Viewpoint

The absolute best place to get those epic sunset shots is at the Pachetia Hill Viewpoint. To get there, hire an inexpensive tuk tuk to take you to this exact GPS coordinate: 26.294710, 73.017635.

As Jodhpur  is located in the state of Rajasthan, most visitors will typically start in either Udaipur or Jaipur before continuing onwards to Jodhpur. There are multiple ways to reach Jodhpur from anywhere in Rajasthan, all ranging in costs.

The easiest, most stress free way is to hire a personal driver . There are many companies which will provide these services and typically you will pay a fee per kilometer.

We did the a/c bus option and it cost 420 INR per person (~6 USD) with the journey lasting about 4.5 hours. Our bus started in Ajmer since we were in Pushkar prior to going to Jodhpur. If you also want to visit Pushkar then you will need to take a taxi or UBER from Pushkar to Ajmer first.

There are no direct options from Pushkar for either the bus or the train. The taxi from Pushkar to Ajmer cost 500 INR (~7.25 USD) and we set it up through our hostel.

There is also the option of  Taktal. This is where they reserve a certain number of seats that you can purchase the same day. These tickets will be more expensive but at least you’ll be able to get a seat.

You could also check flights to Jodhpur as India has some very low cost airlines. We used IndiGo Air a few times while in India. The flights were inexpensive and also include a checked bag!

Getting Around Jodhpur

By far the easiest way to get around Jodhpur and all of India is to use UBER. You can also download and use OLA, which is India’s local version of UBER. We made some new friends in Udaipur and saw how the OLA app works.

It is similar to UBER but slower and requires more information. Honestly, either is probably a good enough option and they are around the same price.

One of the things we loved the most about using UBER (or OLA) is that there is no haggling and you don’t have to give the driver directions. The app sets a rate, which is significantly cheaper than a tuk tuk, and the driver has google maps connected to the app. All you have to do is sit back and relax in the a/c!

› Where to Eat

During our time in Jodhpur we mostly ate at our Luxury Homestay: The Almond Tree. Their food was incredibly tasty, we knew it was fresh and the prices were the same as in the city.

› Where to Stay

We stayed in Jodhpur a total of 5 nights with 4 of those being at The Almond Tree: A Luxury Guesthouse. We loved every second of our stay here and would highly recommend to anyone traveling to Jodhpur. Located in a quiet neighborhood just on the outskirts of the Old City, this homestay was the perfect retreat.

Our last night in Jodhpur we stayed at the Park Plaza Hotel Jodhpur. This is a larger hotel with great amenities such as a swimming pool, gym, restaurant and on-site pool. The rooms are comfortable and bright and the staff is warm and welcoming.

An eVisa to India is required for almost all international travelers. You can apply online for the eVisa prior to your arrival in India and it is a relatively easy process. I did my application through ivisa.com  which is slightly more expensive (by about $30) due to processing fees but is completely stress free and worth it.

tourist location at jodhpur

I have been to a city covered in blue Chefchaouen in the land of One Thousand and One Nights of Morocco, so before going to Jodhpur I did not expect much, because I simply wanted to fill in the gap of 3 days in my India itinerary for 10 days. However, Jodhpur not only has blue walls, but more than that makes me linger when leaving here on the night bus. So, what to do in Jodhpur and where to go in Jodhpur — The “blue city” of India? Let’s check out our Jodhpur travel blog with the ultimate Jodhpur travel guide to explore best places to visit in Jodhpur, top places to visit in Jodhpur as well as top and best things to do in Jodhpur to find out the answer!

There are many explanations for the unique blue color of this city. Some theories suggest that because Jodhpur is located so close to the Thar desert, the climate is hot all year round, so people paint blue to make it cooler and more pleasant.

Some have suggested that it is related to Balamonism and even that it was once a city cursed by priests, so King Rao Jodha rebuilt the city in the hope of a fresher color by painting it blue as a color of hope.

Jodhpur travel blog: Why do I love Jodhpur?

tourist location at jodhpur

  • Because Jodhpur is a bit hustle and bustle but not noisy, there are small corners that are extremely quiet, lovely nooks and crannies.
  • Because the locals invite me to use their service but do not solicit.
  • Because Jodhpur is just enough, it is possible to walk on my feet everywhere and make strangers can remember the roads of the city.
  • Because the food in Jodhpur is both delicious and cheap, there are also many beautiful rooftop cafes to watch sunset.
  • Because I met the owner of a homestay who is extremely enthusiastic.

That’s already enough to love Jodhpur. Life is too short, love it, just because of love!

Jodhpur travel guide: A few lines about Jodhpur

tourist location at jodhpur

Jodhpur was built in 1158, with exquisitely carved ancient structures. This place is famous for many palaces, mausoleums and old structrures such as Mehrangarth fortress, Khejalar, Umaid Bahwan palace …

tourist location at jodhpur

Also known as “Blue City”, “Sun City” and “The gateway to the Thar desert”, Jodhpur is famous for its majestic Mehrangarh Fort, blue houses, temples, sweets and snacks food. In addition to the fortress, there are many temples, lakes, and quaint shopping streets.

The former capital of Marwar, Jodhpur is one of Rajasthan’s most enchanting cities, with its majestic Mehrangarh Fort overlooking the city. The city is dubbed the Blue City because when viewed from the air Jodhpur has a refreshing blue color. Nearby is Jaswant Tada and Umaid Bhawan Palace are also among the top attractions in Jodhpur. However, the magic lies in the old city itself with its hundreds of shops, guesthouses, eateries and vendors making it a vibrant, bustling city, especially the area near the clock tower and Sardar Market.

tourist location at jodhpur

Jodhpur became even more famous when it appeared in the movie The Dark Knight Rises, that make the city is more famous and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world. Jodhpur is conveniently located in the heart of Rajasthan, making it easier for visitors traveling to Jodhpur to explore other Rajasthan destinations. Jodhpur is also the city with the first international airport in India connecting to London & Melbourne because of its strong trade activity when it was under British rule.

Jodhpur blog: When to visit?

Jodhpur is almost hot all year round, peaks can reach 45 degrees, so another name for the blue city is “Sun City”. You should go in late autumn or winter, early winter the weather will be more pleasant.

Jodhpur travel blog: What to do in Jodhpur and where to go in Jodhpur?

Below are best places to visit in Jodhpur and best things to do in Jodhpur for the first time.

Mehrangarh Fort

tourist location at jodhpur

It can be said that the fortress occupies the entire skyline of the city, towering and majestic. No matter where you are wandering in Jodhpur, just looking up, you can easily see the fort. To visit Mehrangarh Fort you need to spend from two to three hours or enven a whole day to explore all the outdoor nooks and crannies and its museum, cafes… This place has appeared in many famous movies of both Hollywood and Bollywood, as previously mentioned as the filming location for The Dark Knight Rises.

tourist location at jodhpur

There are many galleries and restaurants here, quite expensive to serve visitors. Unless you are very hungry, you should eat here, if not, you should take a walk for a kilometer or two back to the city, you will have delicious and cheap food right away. Near the fortress, there is a zipline service which is also quite interesting, if you have time, you should try it.

In my opinion, the fortress is most beautiful when viewed from afar. I will suggest some best spots to see the fortress:

  • Casa de Jodhpur: This is the homestay I stayed in, the owner of the hotel is very cute and it has a rooftop for guests to see the whole city, if possible, you can stay here and watching scenery every day, save money rather than going to a cafe.
  • Via Jodhpur shopping area: Visiting this place is completely free, you don’t have to spend for cafe to have a fortress view, on this rooftop there is also a cafe to sit and drink and enjoy the panoramic view of the city.
  • Open House Cafe: If you want to sipping a cup of coffee, this is also an option, but in my opinion, the cafe in Via Jodhpur is more beautiful, I don’t understand why this place is recommended a lot.

tourist location at jodhpur

To visit the fort, you have to buy a ticket. The ticket price to visit is 600 Rupees, however, if you want to take pictures you have to pay more for each camera is 100 Rupees, take the elevator service, you need to buy a separate ticket.

And especially, remember to keep your ticket during your visit here because you could be suddenly checked for tickets at any time. When you leaving, someone also checks the ticket again at the gate and punches the hole. I wonder, why can it be so troublesome!

tourist location at jodhpur

Jaswant Tada

Located far from the city center is Jaswant Tada, a burial place of the Marwar royal family. I won’t go into the historical story because you can Google it easily, what I like the most is the delicately carved white marble architecture creating a work that is likened to the Taj Mahal of the Marwar royal family, set in a green space of the royal garden. In addition, you can walk around a natural lake in the middle of arid land creating a harmonious scene between human hands and nature.

tourist location at jodhpur

King Maharaja Sardar Singh built Jaswant Thada mausoleum in 1899 to commemorate his father King Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Today, this landmark has become a splendid work of Rajputana-style architecture and is often referred to as the Taj Mahal of the Marwar region.

tourist location at jodhpur

The entrance fee is only 50 rupees and is very close to Mehrangarh Fort, so you can combine to visit these 2 places on the same journey for convenience.

Toorji Ka Jhalra (Toorji’s Step Well)

tourist location at jodhpur

Or simply called by tourists is Stepwell because this place is a well with many steps. This well is extremely big, there are fish living below. When I came, I witnessed many local young people jumping from above, it was also very interesting. And the well is also a photogenic spot, remember to ask your friends to take pictures from side to side of the well for you to take great photos. If you want to see the whole well, you can go to Stepwell Cafe in a nearby alley to see the best panorama.

This well was built in 1740 by Queen Maharaja Abhay Singh to provide water for the people in the area. There is no fee to visit Toorji Ka Jhalra.

tourist location at jodhpur

Ghanta Ghar Clock Tower

tourist location at jodhpur

The clock tower is located in the heart of Jodhpur and in the middle of the bustling Sardar market, here I actually find only a few beautiful angles to take photos, and in the evening it is also quite shimmering when the clock tower lights up.

However, what I like the most is that there are many restaurants around here:

  • The juice shop on the right of the market gate is very cheap and delicious, only from 20 rupees.
  • Omlettes Shop sells extremely delicious Indian-style egg sandwiches, a must try, located outside the market.
  • Royale Cafe is my place I stayed, the food and drinks are normal but the owner is very cute, if you want to talk with locals, come here, the two owners will talk all day.
  • Shri Mishrilal Hotel lassi shop sells famous lassi, for those who like to eat lassi can visit and try traditional lassi for 40 rupees.

Jodhpur blog: Getting to Jodhpur

tourist location at jodhpur

You can getting to Jodhpur easily from Jaipur by train, which takes about 6 hours. I don’t understand why I couldn’t buy tickets online, so I had to go straight to the station to buy. The procedure is also relatively simple, just fill out the form and pay. However, foreigners are served in a separate area, you should ask the ticket counter staff its location to avoid being tricked by locals to buying tours or taxis.

In addition, there is an option is to take the Jain Travels bus, which cannot be purchased online because you must have an Indian payment card. I asked the homestay owner to use their card to buy it for me and I returned them with an additional fee. When taking the bus, remember to choose a bed, very comfortable for overnight trips.

tourist location at jodhpur

I traveled to Jodhpur by train and left by bus, I like both. But if you go during the day, go by train, go at night, choose a night bus, it will be easier to sleep and less hustle and bustle.

Update: How to buy tickets

With one of the most dense and bustling train systems in the world, you can easily reach Jodhpur by train. Book a train ticket at 12go.asia if you don’t want to get in the way of complicated procedures when foreigners book trains in India. Must say extremely complicated and cumbersome!

If you travel by plane from New Delhi, you can book cheap tickets of SpiceJet , flight time is about 1 hour.

Jodhpur travel blog: Where to stay?

I highly recommend Casa de Jodhpur , book through Booking.com or Agoda.com , the owner is very nice and helps us to book bus tickets and enthusiastically instructs many things to go out in Jodhpur. Room price is only $39/room for 2 people. The minus point is that the hot water sometimes is turned off, so I have to take a cold shower. But this place has a very beautiful rooftop so you are free to come up and play, watching sunset.

tourist location at jodhpur

In addition, there are 3 areas where you should choose a hotel.

  • The first area is around Jodhpur Junction train station, there are many options, from here it is convenient to go anywhere, right in the city center.
  • The second area is near Sardar Market, near the bustling market.
  • The third area is quiet and many Westerners rent, it is around Step Well cafe.

Below we recommend more best budget, mid-range and upscale hotels with good ratings and reviews you can refer to.

  • Radisson Jodhpur ( Agoda.com or Booking.com )

Jodhpur travel guide: What to eat?

tourist location at jodhpur

In general, the cuisine of Rajasthan does not vary much between cities like Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur or Udaipur. In Jodhpur, for breakfast you can find small roadside stalls with Omelette shop signs, fried eggs as shown above, or boiled eggs. This is a popular breakfast of most locals.

I mainly choose dishes with fried rice with eggs, chicken seems to be the “safest” of all the dishes that have a strong curry flavor. You can also try Creamy Culture’s pizza near the train station which I think is pretty good. This is actually a birthday cake shop, but it also has a menu like a restaurant.

tourist location at jodhpur

Open House Cafe

Open House Cafe is located right in Toorji Ka Jhalra Stepwell area, next to the very famous cafe Stepwell Cafe, which has just opened so it’s still quite new. Open House Cafe has a diverse menu of both Indian and Western food, the taste is not too strong of curry, so it will be more comfortable for those who can’t eat Indian food.

tourist location at jodhpur

Umaid Bhawan Palace

tourist location at jodhpur

Perched on the top of the highest hill in the blue city of Jodhpur, it was the palace of the royal family in Jodhpur and currently the sixth largest palace in the world. So from any position you can see Umaid Bhawan.

Umaid Bhawan is now partly used as a museum to display the collections of the kings of Jodhpur. These are collections of art deco furniture, antique clocks, dining sets, stuffed leopards and weapons, among other very luxurious artifacts.

tourist location at jodhpur

However, now the majority of Umaid Bhawan is privately owned, which is the luxury hotel Umaid Bhawan Palace with 64 luxury standard rooms.

The entrance fee is 100 Rupees, with a pretty strict security check.

Note that when renting a tuktuk to come here, you can ask the driver to wait for about 2 hours, because the return trip to the center is quite expensive and there are few vehicles compared to coming trips.

Sardar Market

tourist location at jodhpur

Probably the busiest, most crowded and noisy shopping district in Jodhpur. The most prominent of this colorful market is the clock tower called Clock Tower.

You should spend a morning walking around the market, you will see very interesting surprises. It’s a market filled with vibrant colorful colors of sari, the typical dress of Indian women. The stalls selling bracelets and jewelry are full of eye-catching colors.

tourist location at jodhpur

Also from Sardar Market, you will see Mehrangarh Fort towering behind, and from here to that fort is only about 20 minutes.

tourist location at jodhpur

Another great experience when coming to Sardar Market is to visit the Omelette Shop restaurant right at the back gate of the market. It is a fried egg sandwich with toast, served with a very typical chai tea and quite crowded.

tourist location at jodhpur

Mandore Garden

From Sardar Market to Mandore Garden about 11km, located on the outskirts of Jodhpur city, quite far from the center and few tuktuks going back. So, the tip is you should negotiate the price for both ways, waiting about 2 hours is reasonable for you to visit inside.

tourist location at jodhpur

This Mandore area was formerly the ancient capital of King Rajputana from the 6th century, today it is a museum with many temples and trees embellished into a green park for locals to play.

There is a large temple worshiping 330 million Hindu gods, which is very impressive.

It is a remnant blue covered neighborhood located right below the foothills of Mehrangarh Fort. To sneak here, you need to show the picture to the tuktuk driver to identify this area, just say “Blue city” they will not know where.

tourist location at jodhpur

However, to find out which clusters of blue houses are close together, you need to ask the people here.

You can find quite a few homestays in this Blue city area.

Blue city is a cluster of zigzag streets, damp with the smell of garbage and cow dung everywhere. Coming here, you can observe how people live in the tiny damp blue houses.

Currently, the number of houses painted blue is not much, they switched to paint in other colors.

tourist location at jodhpur

  • You can take the journey to visit Jodhpur, Jaipur and Udaipur is reasonable because these 3 cities are quite close to each other.
  • 3 days 2 nights is a reasonable time for Jodhpur.
  • Ask the hotel receptionist to write down the address in Hindu to give the tuktuk driver, because most of them don’t know the latin script.
  • Jodhpur is very dusty, terrible dust, so don’t forget your mask and sunscreen.

Some best day tours, trips, activities and transfer services, tickets in, from and to Jodhpur you can refer to

Popular Things to Do in Jodhpur

Visit mehrangarh fort.

Visit Mehrangarh Fort

The majestic Mehrangrah fort which rises above the city is one of the largest forts in India.  The impregnable fort forms a picturesque backdrop to the city towering over Jodhpur at 400 ft. The thick walls of the fort enclose several palaces known for their intricate carvings and sprawling courtyards, elaborate balconies, arched galleries, and heavily ornamented private residences. Mehrangrah fort is also famous for it’s museum which is known to be one of the most well stocked museums in Rajasthan. The museum exhibits the heritage of the royalty in arms, costumes, paintings and decorated period rooms. There are a wide array of things that Mehrangarh Fort is famous for, The Flying Fox is a zipline activity that will provide just the right amount of an adrenalin shot as well as a breather from the sometimes tedious palace tours. Buc-ee’s to open largest location yet next month in Texas

The 50th buc-ee’s is 75,000 square feet and replaces the brand’s first-ever travel center, which opened in luling in 2003..

Buc-ee's pictured Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022 in Terrell, Texas.

By Lilly Kersh

2:10 PM on May 28, 2024 CDT — Updated at 5:06 PM on May 28, 2024 CDT

Buc-ee’s will open its doors to its 50th location and its largest travel center in the country on June 10 in Luling, the town “where the legend began,” 21 years after it opened its first family travel center in the city in 2003.

The original Luling location will be replaced by the new 75,000-square-foot rest stop, an almost 40,000-square-foot increase. The original travel center was just over 36,000 square feet.

“In the past, [the Luling store] was one of the biggest locations of any travel center,” director of operations Josh Smith said. “Now that we’ve grown and expanded, we’re just wanting to bring that title back to Luling since that’s where it all started for us.”

The company’s travel centers are known for their size and wide range of products and merchandise. The Luling center will have at least 200 employees, 120 fueling positions and thousands of food and drink options, according to a statement from Buc-ee’s. The store will serve barbecue, fudge, Beaver Nuggets, jerky, pastries, kolaches and more.

Luling is in South Texas, nearly 60 miles east of San Antonio off of Interstate 10.

The Buc-ee’s convenience store chain was founded in Clute, Texas in 1982. Smith said the brand’s first stores were average convenience stores with 6 to 12 pumps. But in 2003, the company built its first “family travel center” in Luling, expanding on the original rest stops.

In 2019, Buc-ee’s began a multistate expansion and now has rest stops in more than ten states across the South, including 35 currently open in Texas alone.

“It’s extremely important for us because Texas is our roots,” Smith said. “Bringing it all back home is one of those things that’s extremely prideful.”

The Luling travel center is just 1,000 square feet larger than the three next largest Buc-ee’s centers. Sevierville, Tenn., Hillsboro, Texas and Johnstown, Colo. each have 74,000-square-foot Buc-ee’s locations but will be just barely surpassed by the store opening in Luling.

The chain’s 51st location will open a week after the Luling travel center opens its doors. Smith said the 53,000-square-foot store will be in Smiths Grove, Ken.
