Home | Travel | North America | United States | Nevada | Red Rock Canyon | 5 Best Tours to Red Rock Canyon from Las Vegas

The next time you’re in Sin City, consider taking a  tour to Red Rock Canyon from Las Vegas . Located in the eastern Mojave Desert,  Red Rock Canyon   is just 15 miles from the city, so it’s one of the best  day trips from Las Vegas .

For someone like me, visiting Red Rock is the perfect  thing to do outside Las Vegas , especially when I need a nature fix. Even though it’s so close to the Strip, Red Rock is wildly different from the lights and noise of Las Vegas Boulevard.

Here, you can explore the arid desert landscape and all its flora and fauna. Many  Las Vegas excursions to Red Rock Canyon  include beautiful views of the rock walls and Aztec sandstone cliffs. Millions of years of erosion and mineral oxidation resulted in the bright red rocks and petrified trees that make this area so impressive.

It’s also a great family attraction since there is a 13-mile loop road that you can take through the area. If you like hiking and climbing, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to do that here, too. Regardless of your fitness level, you’ll be able to see the best sights in Red Rock, like the Wilson Cliffs, Calico Hills, and La Madre Mountain. Keep your eyes peeled for wild burros, rabbits, and desert tortoises hiding among the blackbrush and yucca plants!

  • Duration: 8 hours
  • Departure: Hotel pickup and drop-off at the Strip
  • Departure Time: 6 am
  • Includes: Air-conditioned vehicle, snacks

Are you looking for a tour where you spend even more time venturing out in the desert? If so, then check out the Valley of Fire and Seven Magic Mountains Day Tour from Las Vegas !

This 8-hour tour takes you through some of the most impressive natural and man-made beauty the Mohave Desert has to offer! This 8-hour journey starts off with a pickup at 6 in the morning at your hotel located either on the Strip or downtown Las Vegas.

It may be early, but this is so you can enjoy the entire day before the sun sets. First, you’ll stop at the Valley of Fire State Park, which covers over a massive 46,000 acres!

Named after the red Aztec Sandstone formations that have been around for over 100 million years, they look like they’re on fire when it’s particularly sunny out (which is almost always!).

Here, you’ll learn all about the area, where Native Americans once lived and left petroglyphs! You’ll have plenty of time to walk around, get in a bit of exercise, and take some photos!

Next, you’ll get back in the shuttle and head over to Seven Magic Mountains. This is a pretty cool art exhibit that was created by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone consisting of 7 painted boulder totems up to 35 feet tall.

As is typical of the artist’s sculptures, Seven Magic Mountains are painted in bright, neon colors that certainly contrast with the natural landscape in a fascinating way. This place is a hot Instagram location too!

3. Red Rock Canyon Hiking Tour

  • Duration: 4 hours
  • Departure:  The Mirage, 3400 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas
  • Departure Time: TBD
  • Includes:  2-2.5-hour guided hike, professional guide, bottled water, round-trip transportation by air-conditioned coach

If you don’t already have blisters from walking up and down the Strip or are a bit tired of working out in your hotel gym, we have just the alternative for you!

The Red Rock Canyon Hiking Tour lets you select from 3 different trail options, depending on your skill level and specific interests.

This is a great way to see a different part of Nevada, all while getting in some exercise and learning about this interesting desert landscape! Your tour will start off with you meeting the rest of your group at The Mirage, to be picked up.

The 4-hour tour (including round-trip transport) does have different pickup times, but we recommend going as early as possible to avoid the hot, hot heat and having more time throughout the day to do other activities.

If you are bringing younger children along, just make sure that they’re going to be able to keep up with the rest of the group as it is a hiking tour and the guides are on a schedule. Otherwise, it is great for just about any age of hiking experience level.

This hike is so much more than just walking through a beautiful desert landscape. You’ll get to learn all about the history of the area, and depending on the specific route you and your group take, you’ll even get to see some manmade pieces of history!

We loved each level, though the more difficult route gets you up high above the starting point, where you can even see views of Las Vegas!

4. Scooter Tours of Red Rock Canyon

  • Departure:  Hotel pickup and drop-off (selected hotels only)
  • Includes:  National Park fees, bottled water, professional guide, use of helmet

Ever thought of how fun it would be to get out of the traffic and zoom around freely over the Nevada desert? If so, then check out the Scooter Tours of Red Rock Canyon ! With a ton of different tour options, there really is something for everyone here!

You’ll start out by being picked up from your hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. We found the staff to be incredibly friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. They keep your safety at the forefront, and make sure that everyone is comfortable the entire time.

Just know that if you’d like to drive the scooter by yourself, you have to be 18 with a parent and 21 with a valid driver’s license. Once you arrive at Red Rock Canyon, your guides will give you a brief lesson and tell you how to operate the scooters.

By the time you really set out on your 13-mile loop, you’ll already feel confident in how to use them. With a 25mph speed limit, it’s a great way to see the stunning rock formations and also learn about the area.

The guides are very well-informed and will teach you about the geology, history, wildlife, flora and fauna, and more. This is a place with a very rich Native American history, and will really give you a different perspective on Las Vegas and its surrounding landscape.

The guides will stop various times throughout the tour to let you take photos and show you particularly interesting sites. There are also plenty of restroom stops around, which we appreciated.

5. Red Rock Canyon Self-Guided Electric Bike Tour

  • Duration:  4 hours
  • Departure:  Hotel drop-off and pickup available
  • Includes:  All necessary equipment, bottled water, snack

This next tour is a fantastic way to get in some fresh air and exercise! Go at your own pace with the Red Rock Canyon Self-Guided Electric Bike Tour . As it is a self-guided tour, you get to make your own rules and don’t have to worry about going too fast or slow for the rest of your group.

Roundtrip pickup and drop-off from your Vegas hotel is included, so all you have to do is bring some comfortable cycling clothes, some sunscreen, and sunglasses!

Helmets are provided, along with your e-bike, bottled water, and a snack. Essentially, they’ll provide you with all necessary equipment. You get the choice of booking a sunrise ride at 9 am, or at 1 pm. This way, it’s easier to fit into a busy schedule! However, if you do have a bit of flexibility, we recommend the sunrise ride!

Not only do you get to see the electric red sunrise coming up over the mountains, but it’s also much less hot and sunny!

The electric bikes that are included do come with pedal assist, so if you’re not used to pedaling around hills and trails, you don’t have to worry. It’s great for the vast majority of physical fitness levels and are quite powerful. I

f you’re able to ride a “regular” bike on flat roads, then you can absolutely ride one of these. You’ll follow your map, traveling through Pine Creek Canyon Trail and Turtlehead Peak Trail.

If you like the idea of gliding down hills with the wind in your hair and amazing views in the distance, then this is the tour for you!

6. Las Vegas Red Rock Canyon Helicopter Tour

  • Duration:  30 minutes
  • Departure: 5596 Haven St, 5596 Haven St, Las Vegas
  • Departure Time:  TBD
  • Includes:  Air-conditioned vehicle

For this tour, we’re going to switch things up a bit (in a good way)! If you’re looking for a tour that’s shorter and easier to fit into a busier schedule, or really want to get the adrenaline pumping, we have just the ticket!

The Las Vegas Red Rock Canyon Helicopter Tour checks both of those boxes and a lot more! Las Vegas and the surrounding desert landscape is definitely captivating from the ground.

However, taking it in from aerial views is just something else. There are all different kinds of flight times available, so it’s really easy to fit into any schedule you may have planned for the day. We highly recommend the sunset flight slot!

Once you have your time selected, you’ll meet up with your guide just opposite the Mandalay Bay and Four Seasons Hotels. Free parking is also available for guests, so they really make it as convenient as possible!

At the Las Vegas terminal, you’ll be greeted by your pilot and escorted to the stunning helicopter! You and anyone else in your group will hop on board, and the pilot will answer any questions you may have and provide a short safety briefing.

Once you’re up in the air, it’s truly phenomenal! The pilot offers incredible insight into Vegas’ history, as well as the geology and history of the Red Rock Canyon State Park. The canyon looks completely different from up above, with its various colors and shades, unique rock formations, and more.

You’ll even pass over the Vegas Strip, including some of the most breathtaking downtown Las Vegas views, along with Caesars Palace, the Bellagio, Mandalay Bay Resort, Raiders Stadium, and more!

7. Scooter Car Tour of Red Rock Canyon with Transport from Las Vegas

  • Duration: 4.5 hours
  • Departure: Hotel pickup and drop-off offered on Strip

The Scooter Car Tour of Red Rock Canyon with Transport from Las Vegas is some of the most fun you can have! You’ll take the excitement of Vegas and bring it out to the desert on this tour! Zoom around the beautiful desert landscapes, take photos, and learn all about its history without having to worry about breaking a sweat!

This 4.5-hour tour does include roundtrip transportation from your Vegas hotel, making it one of the most convenient ways to see the area.

You don’t have to deal with proper walking shoes, or worrying that you’re not experienced enough to keep up with the rest of your group. These scooter car tours offer full 360-degree views that allow you to see the canyon like few other tours offer.

Once you arrive to Red Rock Canyon, your guide will provide you with your scooter car and offer a safety briefing. If you don’t feel like driving, you can always sit with a partner and take the passenger seat! Once everyone feels comfortable, you’ll start by following your guide out onto the road!

The canyon’s flora and fauna are rich, along with the Native American history. The Paiute used to live here, and it’s a great opportunity to learn more about how ingenious they were.

You’ll then get an up-close-and-personal look at the park, following your guide on a scenic loop. On this loop, you’ll see all kinds of magnificent rock formations, and perhaps even some wildlife like burros, jackrabbits, and tortoises!

If you’d like to come back for hiking or rock climbing, your guide can also make some recommendations for you. There are periodic stops along the way so you can switch drivers or take some photos.

Craving some movement after a few days of just sitting at the casino tables? This is the perfect time to jump on a bike and get your heart pumping as you explore the gorgeous canyon landscapes of the Mojave desert.

6 – Red Rock Canyon sunset tours

sunset tours in Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is beautiful no matter when you visit – but there’s something particularly magical about the sun bouncing on the red rock formations as sunset approaches. Luckily for visitors, there are many different ways to catch the sunset in the canyons .

The quickest and easiest one is via a helicopter tour, which will take you right over the canyon for stunning photo opportunities . Some helicopter Red Rock Canyon tours even offer a landing option, so you can jump off and admire the reds and yellows dancing over the cliffs as the sun sets.

Longer tours (up to 5 hours) take you right into the heart of the Red Rock Canyon Park for a sunset horseback ride or a Jeep off-road adventure . You’ll have an opportunity to enjoy the rugged beauty of the park and see native wildlife up close.

Enjoy a western-style campfire barbecue complete with BBQ and s’mores (in some of the tours only). Ride the same trails cowboys were on hundreds of years ago and discover the unique beauty of the dessert as the stars come out.

Want an easy, relaxing late afternoon out in Red Rock Canyon? Small group tours are also available for those who prefer to be picked up along the Las Vegas Boulevard and driven to the park. There, you’ll get a chance to drive around the scenic route before stopping at the perfect location to catch the sunset. Some of the small tours include an optional stop at the art installation Seven Magic Mountains inside the park.

7 – Red Rock Canyon helicopter tours

helicopter tours in Red Rock Canyon

For a unique way to see the beauty of the red canyons, a daytime scenic flight over the Mojave Desert is hard to beat. This is a great option if you don’t have enough time for a drive out to the park but don’t want to miss out on the mind-blowing scenery .

There are several options when it comes to helicopter tours. You can choose a shorter 30-minute flight over Red Rock Canyon State Park for breathtaking views of the multicolored rock formations, the scenic loop, and the surrounding natural landscapes . All along, your pilot will provide insights into the geology and history of the area, as well as the animals and vegetation that call the place home.

For an even more stunning experience, consider a sunset flight with landing. These 2-2.5-hour-long tours will get you breathtaking views over Red Rock Canyon as the sun starts to set over the red sandstone. You’ll then land on a private vista overlooking the Las Vegas Valley and The Strip , where you can toast the end of the day with champagne.

On your way back, you’ll fly over some of the most iconic Las Vegas properties , including the Bellagio and Luxor casinos , as well as Allegiant Stadium just as the lights come on at the Strip. Helicopter tours with landing are also available during the daytime.

8 – Red Rock Canyon scooter car tours

scooter car tours in Red Rock Canyon

Want the fun of driving yourself around but a little uneasy jumping on a scooter? Instead of traditional scooters, you can try a Red Rock Canyon tour using a 2-person , 3-wheel scooter car .

You’ll all get all the excitement of riding your own vehicle (with your partner or a friend) but can switch drivers at any time you need a break. Plus, that third wheel will come in handy for balance and speed.

This unique tour will have you feeling like a kid again. With no clutch or gears (and no special driving license required), these tiny cars are easy for everybody to maneuver. But don’t worry, your guide will show you how to operate the car anyway as soon as you arrive at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

From there, you will follow their lead to reach the scenic 21-km loop road that cuts through the canyon. Your tour guide will also suggest stops along the way so you can stretch your legs, try some of the short trails , or hike up to the High Point Overlook for great views over Las Vegas Valley.

As part of the tour, you’ll also stop by the park’s visitor center to learn about local flora and fauna before you head out. It’ll give you a chance to identify some of the animals –including lizards and turtles – you might encounter in the desert.

TIP: This is a great tour if you’re traveling with a partner , as the price is per car, not per passenger, so you’ll save money while still getting the stunning 360-degree views the area is famous for.

Tired of the crowds? We can’t say we blame you. The glitz of Las Vegas comes with a lot of noise, people, and tight spaces. Whether you’re alone or with a group of friends, having a tour that’s dedicated just to you would be a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Visiting Red Rock Canyon on a private half-day tour is very easy. Most private tours offer hotel pick up, from where you will then drive – in an SUV or small van – directly to the rugged beauty of the canyon . Depending on the tour, your guide might come bearing gifts in the form of a boxed lunch, juices and water, and sometimes even an acai bowl or snacks.

Most private tours will include the 20-kilometers scenic loop drive for amazing panoramic views . Plus, your driver will stop and let you out at the best photo spots. If you have enough time for more than one adventure, why not choose a tour that combines the beauty of Red Rock Canyon with other nearby attractions ? There’s a lot more to see outside Las Vegas, and the right tour can help you discover the area’s most beautiful sights in one day.

A popular option that still only takes half a day is a tour of Red Rock’s scenic desert cliffs combined with a journey to Seven Magic Mountains , an art installation consisting of seven painted boulders stacked to reach more than 12-meters high.

There’s also the option to visit Hoover Dam with some of these tours for a chance to look out over one of the largest concrete structures in the world. You might even get the chance to enjoy lunch at Hoover Dam Lodge and Casino.

If you’re craving more towering cliffs and red sandstone rock formations that look magical as the sun sets, adding Valley of Fire to your itinerary is the perfect choice.

These tours are longer (up to 9 hours) but will take you deep into Valley of Fire state park, where you can catch sight of petrified sand dunes . You’ll also be able to hike the Mouse’s Tank Trail through a canyon filled with Native American petroglyphs .

We will be in a hotel near Red Rock, and would like to do a buffet on Sun Night. Other nights any good restaurant recommendations would be welcome.

The only casino with a buffet near Red Rock is the Market Place Buffet at the Rampart Casino.

$31.99* Prime Rib Dinner Buffet

Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, 4 pm – 8 pm

$26.99 with Rampart Plus, Summerlin, Premier or Elite Card

That should be fine, do you know if they offer kids prices? Can I sign up for these cards or are they resident cards?

Children 12 years old and under

$18.99 Dinner and Brunch

$13.99 Lunch

Rampart Plus, Summerlin, Premier or Elite Cards are the different levels they have by gambling in their casino. With under 50,000 points you would be Rampart Rewards level with no discount.

Thanks we went there and it worked out fine. We weee short on time and would not have found this if not for your recommendation so I really appreciate the tip.

Just a bit more expensive on the weekend we ended up making it there by lunchtime and had the champagne brunch.

Adults 33 and 18 kids, as opposed to 21 / 14 for the normal buffet. Had a good time.

Bicycle race to cause Sunday road closures near Summerlin, Red Rock

Drivers around the Summerlin and Red Rock Canyon areas should brace for road closures this weekend tied to the L’Etape Las Vegas by Tour de France bicycle race.

Cyclists ride along State Route 159 in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Las Vegas ...

The race takes place Sunday with the start-finish line on Spruce Goose Street near Las Vegas Ballpark in Downtown Summerlin and riders making their way through the Red Rock National Conservation Area, according to Las Vegas Events. From Spruce Goose, the expected over 600 cyclists will head west along Sahara to Desert Foothills Drive and then over to Charleston. From there, cyclists will head into the famous Red Rock Canyon area.

Law enforcement and race officials will begin securing the course at 2:30 a.m. Sunday to ensure the race starts on time at 7 a.m., according to LVE.

Here is a list of road closures that will be in place Sunday for the race:

■ Spruce Goose (full closure) between Oval Park Drive and Sahara Avenue between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m.

■ Sahara (westbound traffic) between Spruce Goose and Red Rock Ranch Road between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.

■ Desert Foothills Drive (westbound) between Red Rock Ranch and Charleston between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.

■ State route 159 (full closure) between Desert Foothills and State Route 160 between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.

■ State route 160 between SR 159 and Sandy Valley Road between 6:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The race features four course options varying in lengths of 25 miles, 45 miles and 75 miles. The 75-mile race features an elevation gain of 6,464 feet.

Electronic message boards were set up this week to alert motorists near the race’s route that traffic implications are part of the race.

“We ask the traveling public on the morning of Sunday, May 5, to have patience and observe caution while traveling on the city streets around the Las Vegas Ballpark, Highway 159, and Highway 160 throughout the morning and early afternoon, as cyclists will be riding and racing through these communities,” LVE President Tim Keener said in a statement. “Our goal is to keep the communities along the course informed and moving as much as possible, while keeping cyclists safe during this event.”
