This Low-Cost Cruise Between West Palm Beach & the Bahamas is Florida’s Best-Kept Secret

cruise ship west palm beach fl

If you consider yourself a beach bum—or just daydream about jetting off to tropical places–you may think you know everything there is to know about vacationing in Florida . But chances are, this affordable cruise between the Bahamas and Florida has never even crossed your radar. Can’t decide between a trip to the Bahamas or a trip to Florida? With Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line out of West Palm Beach, Florida , you don’t have to.

An Weekend Cruise From Palm Beach to the Bahamas

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line operates just two ships— Grand Celebration and Grand Classica— out of the Port of Palm Beach, located just north of downtown West Palm Beach in an area formally known as Riviera Beach. Not a lot of people know about it, even in Florida, but it’s the perfect way to pack more into your vacation. The cruise line has year-round daily sailings between Florida and the Bahamas.

The sailings are typically two-night/three-day cruises, which makes it easy to just take off on a vacation when you need one. You can leave on a Friday and be back by Sunday morning (and not even have to take a day off of work !).

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line offers super chill and easygoing cruises between two amazing tropical vacation destinations , and it allows you to maximize your time in the Sunshine State by exploring another destination during just a short stint away from your first vacation. It’s kind of like a vacation within a vacation , and who wouldn’t want that?

dining-views-cruise-ship-florida-to-bahamas

Where Does Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line Go?

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line sails between West Palm Beach and the Bahamas and docks in Freeport (Grand Bahama Island). While docked in port, you can opt to explore on your own or book an excursion to help you make the most of your time in the islands.

Another perk of Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line is the fact that, if you prefer, you can extend your trip by staying over in the Bahamas for a couple of nights and then coming back on a different sailing. This is something that few other cruise lines offer (if any), and it’s a nice way to spend a little extra time in the Bahamas while still enjoying a cruise vacation on either end. You can book the four-night vacation option directly on the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line site and choose between a few different hotel options, including some all-inclusives.

room-view-cruise-ship-florida-to-bahamas

How Much Is Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line?

This is perhaps the biggest draw of Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line: it’s affordable. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, you might even find a Groupon for the cruise, and then it’s even cheaper.

Plus, everything’s included in the price, as on most cruises: food and drink won’t cost you unless you pay extra for the upgrade restaurants or purchase an alcoholic drink package (which I recommend doing if you’re going to have more than one or two piña coladas on the cruise). And I also recommend at least one meal at The Rock Grill, a super fun dining experience where you cook your own meal on 1000-degree lava rocks brought to your table!

woman-holding-pina-colada-cruise-ship-florida-to-bahamas

The cruise is usually around $150 or less for a 2-night/3-day jaunt to the Bahamas. They also offer regular deals and promotions like flash sales (I’ve seen $59 per person, per night!) and even “kids sail free” promos (they have three separate kids clubs onboard). They also offer perks for solo cruisers , so don’t write off the cruise if you can’t find a travel buddy or if you just need a little “me” time.

They even offer monthly Ladies Night cruises, which is $49 per lady with packages available that include drink coupons, spa discounts, VIP perks and other treats.

Through July 31, 2019, Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line has brought back their Triple Play promotion: $129 per person for all staterooms plus perks like five free drinks, a $25 onboard credit and $50 casino match play. Am I doing my math wrong, or do the perks just about cover the cost of the cruise?!

dining-views-cruise-ship-florida-to-bahamas

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line Experience

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line isn’t a luxury cruise line and the ships aren’t the latest and greatest state-of-the-art types with all the newest bells and whistles (so don’t go in with those kinds of expectations!).

What you will find is a laidback, no-frills way to spend a couple of days away from your cares, the ideal place to take a break from the real world and spend some time in the Bahamas. And for the price, you really can’t beat it…try to visit the Bahamas for less, I dare you!

The actual visit to the Bahamas is short—you only have from the time the ship docks in the morning til you have to be back on board again in the afternoon—but sometimes, that’s all you need for a total reset. You’ll sail back into port the next day feeling like you got a nice break from reality for a bit.

The cruises are also pretty versatile. While the party goes all night at the casino and bar areas, you can also get away from it all and have a relaxed time aboard the ship. There’s onboard entertainment and shows , a casino , bars and poolside parties on the sun deck , but there’s also a spa and salon , fitness center, and a little shopping—or you can just enjoy the view from your room !

Whether you want an action-packed, no-sleep kind of trip or a soothing time with endless sea surrounding you to dissolve your stresses away, you can find what you’re looking for on a Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line ship.

suite-decor-cruise-ship-florida-to-bahamas

What’s The Difference Between Grand Classica & Grand Celebration ?

There are two ships in the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line fleet: Grand Classica and Grand Celebration .

There aren’t many differences between the two different Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line ships. Their restaurants vary slightly—they have a few of the same restaurants but some different ones—but overall, the vibe is very similar and one isn’t better than the other. I wouldn’t pick a cruise based on the ship because they’re so similar.

I’ve been on both, but if I had to pick one to go on again, I think it would be Grand Celebration . I think it’s the original (and thus older) ship, but for some reason, the vibe flowed better for me and I liked its selection of restaurants.

How to get from Brightline trains to port?

Cruising out of florida has never been easier..

By Amanda Mesa | Published on January 19, 2024

1. Consider All Options When Traveling to Miami's Cruise Port.

Brightline Partnership

PortMiami is only about a 20-minute drive from Miami International Airport — with MiamiCentral station practically on the way. MiamiCentral station doesn't offer a route directly to the port itself, so if you fly into MIA or live locally, you can skip the train and catch a ride or transfer directly to the port of Miami. If you're cruising with Royal Caribbean, you can call the cruise line to arrange a transfer from the airport to your ship ahead of your sailing to make the journey even more seamless.

However, if you're heading from Aventura, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Orlando or Fort Lauderdale to a cruise out of PortMiami, taking the train might be a convenient alternative to renting a car or hiring a driver. Orlando and West Palm Beach offer service to Miami via the train — it takes about three-and-a-half hours to get from Orlando to Miami via the train, and less than an hour-and-a-half to get from West Palm Beach to Miami. From Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Aventura, it takes less than an hour via train. The MiamiCentral station is less than a 10-minute drive from PortMiami, making it a quick trip to the port once you arrive. Simply arrange a transfer or hop in a cab and head to PortMiami, where you can board your ship and get ready for your vacation.

2. Weigh Your Options When Heading to Fort Lauderdale.

harmony departure fort lauderdale sunset forward awards tile1

3. Remember that the Brightline Orlando Station is at the Airport.

Brightline Partnership

4. Compare Smart Versus Premium Fares.

Brightline Partnership

Brightline offers two classes of tickets: smart and premium. Smart fares are less expensive than premium. They include complimentary onboard Wi-Fi and comfy leather seats with multiple power and USB outlets. If you're traveling smart class, you can choose to purchase a variety of food and beverages during your trip.

Premium tickets, on the other hand, grant you access to an exclusive lounge at each station, as well as complimentary snacks and beverages during your trip. They also include a complimentary Uber ride within a five-mile radius of any South Florida station. Both PortMiami and Port Everglades are within five miles of their respective Brightline stations, so you can use this complimentary ride to get from the station to the port free of charge. This can sometimes make spending the difference for a premium ticket worth it, as the price of a car service or cab ride from the station to the port can vary based on the amount of traffic and the time of day.

5. Use Exact Dates When Comparing Fares.

Brightline Partnership

One-way smart fares on the train between Miami and Orlando and the locations in between typically range from $59 to $99 (though they can climb during busier times of the year). Double it if you're looking for a round-trip ticket. From Fort Lauderdale to Orlando, you're looking at similar pricing. Between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, the price comes down to anywhere from $10 to $49 one-way (again, these prices are subject to change based on demand). Premium fares can be between $20-$90 more, but they come with perks such as lounge access, priority boarding, and complimentary checked luggage and snacks.

This Florida County Is Ideal for a Mother-daughter Trip — With Chic Hotels, Beautiful Beaches, and Relaxing Spas

My mom and I often head to the Palm Beaches in order to get some sun, relaxation, and quality time outside of our typical routines, and these are some of our favorite spots.

cruise ship west palm beach fl

When it comes to going on vacation with your mother (or daughter) , your best bet is to find a place that offers activities and amenities that appeal to both of you. Over the last few years, my mom and I have been fortunate enough to travel together everywhere from the English countryside to Jamaica — but there’s one place we’ve found that continually appeals to our fondness for warm weather and short flights along the East Coast.

The Palm Beaches make up 47 miles of Florida’s coastline and can be easily accessed by most major airlines; Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) is in the middle of the region, and Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) is another option, particularly if you’re exploring South Palm Beach County.

While you can choose to stay in just one part of the Palm Beaches — which is split up into the North, Central, and South regions — you can also turn it into a road trip of sorts.

Bright blue water, top-tier restaurants, luxury and boutique hotels, as well as a mix of nature, quiet communities, and bustling cities can be found as you make your way up (or down) the coast.

Whether you prefer lounging by the beach , spending your day on the golf course, or having a pampered spa day, Florida’s Palm Beaches have something for every type of mother-daughter duo . Here’s where we recommend staying.

North Region

In the North Region, we ventured out to Palm Beach Gardens and the PGA National Resort , which underwent a $100-million renovation in 2022. While we’re not golfers, the full redesign of the property’s rooms and suites as well as its 40,000-square-foot spa were calling our names.

In our experience, a successful mother-daughter trip is one that includes making memories together as well as fitting in some alone time. The PGA National Resort allows for both. Together, you can get in a game of tennis at the Sports & Racquet Club or dine at Chef Jeremy Ford’s steakhouse, The Butcher’s Club. Apart, you have the option to swim laps in the club’s five-lane saltwater lap pool or appreciate a moment of silence while reading or walking around the resort.

To get the best of both worlds, stay in one of the 21 Serena and Lily-designed cottages. Outfitted with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, the stylish, palatial retreats provide just the right amount of quality time mixed with individual privacy.

Central Region

Central Palm Beach County is where you’ll find West Palm Beach and, of course, Palm Beach itself. We’ve stayed at several hotels in Palm Beach , but The Brazilian Court is the one we repeatedly bring up as a favorite.

The peaceful nature of the property is evident the moment you enter the lobby. Moments of stillness are found around every corner and throughout the spacious courtyard. The accommodations — ranging from studios to three-bedroom suites — are designed in classic Spanish Colonial style, and are a welcome respite after taking in the South Florida sun during the day.

Courtesy of The Brazilian Court

Our mother-daughter trips typically involve two types of activities: something active and plenty of reading time by a pool or body of water. At The Brazilian Court, we took the hotel’s Linus Bicycles (complimentary for the first two hours) out for a spin down the historic Lake Trail, admiring the views of the Intracoastal and the stunning Palm Beach architecture along the way. Most of our time, however, was spent by the hotel’s pool. Surrounded by palm trees and lush vegetation, the small yet expertly appointed pool is the definition of tranquil; it’s the kind of place that evokes a true sense of peace and complete mindfulness.

South Region

The Boca Raton’s recent transformation — complete with five new hotel concepts and a $65-million Harborside Pool Club — was one of the most highly anticipated aspects of our 2023 mother-daughter trip. Our first day on the property included a journey down the 450-foot floating river and even taking a couple of turns on the kid- and adult-friendly waterslides.

The final day of the trip, though, we dedicated entirely to Spa Palmera, one of the jewels of The Boca Raton. Inspired by the grandeur of Spain’s Alhambra Palace , Spa Palmera is a destination in and of itself. With 44 treatment rooms, waterfall whirlpools, and a courtyard surrounding a private spa pool, it's more than just a place for a massage or rejuvenating facial. My mom and I arrived early for our treatments in order to get the full experience: tea and sweet treats in the waiting room, adorned with elaborate mosaics and grand arches; poolside relaxation; and post-treatment visits to the sauna and steam room.

Michael Stavaridis/Courtesy of The Boca Raton

While you can have mother-daughter quality time anywhere, The Boca Raton’s Spa Palmera — and the Palm Beaches as a whole — ensure you have the time, space, and opportunity to enjoy each other’s company while creating new experiences and lifelong memories.

Healthy trees can increase your home's curb appeal and bring shade to your yard, but unhealthy trees pose risks to your property. You may need to remove a tree if it's diseased, decaying or threatening your home's architecture. Tree removal also helps mitigate the risk of wildfires in West Palm Beach. Licensed professionals have the proper equipment and experience to remove a tree from your property safely.

It's crucial to remove diseased trees, trees with high fall risk and trees that are damaging your foundation. However, performing this task yourself increases the potential for injury and property damage.

Tree removal contractors know the proper cutting techniques and use specialized tools to remove trees according to local ordinances and permit requirements. By working with a reputable tree removal company in West Palm Beach, you can have more confidence that the job will get done safely and correctly.

How do you know a tree needs to be removed?

You should trim or remove a tree if it’s showing signs of severe damage or decay, or if it’s growing too close to your home. The number of decayed trees in West Palm Beach is noticeably high compared to other parts of the country. If you notice any of the following warning signs, consider hiring a tree removal specialist.

The tree or its branches are too close to your home, garage or shed. The tree has damage from heavy rain or thunderstorms. The tree is severely burned or visibly dead. The tree's trunk or branches are cracked and won't heal. The tree is dropping far more needles, sap, branches, leaves or seeds than usual. The tree has pests, diseases or mold weakening its structure. The tree's roots are causing your home's foundation to lift or crack.

Trees that are leaning or have raised dirt encircling the tree trunk base are at a high risk of falling. Contact a tree removal professional as soon as possible to evaluate the extent of the damage and take down the tree if necessary.

What is a hazard tree?

Hazard trees, sometimes referred to as danger trees, have structural defects which are beyond repair, increasing the likelihood of them falling. Falling trees can pose a significant threat to property, pets, vehicles and people. Signs of structural defects include large cracks, dead branches, rotten wood, loose bark and hollow cavities near the tree base. If you have a hazard tree on your property, remove it as soon as possible.

Some tree removal contractors provide an assortment of additional services in addition to cutting down trees. These may include the following:

  • Stump removal: Only the stump will remain following a tree removal. A professional might recommend removing the stump altogether based on the circumstances. They may also grind the stump so the tree's remnants decompose more easily. Stump removal is more expensive than grinding, but it guarantees that the tree won't regrow.
  • Debris removal: Tree removal contractors can use flatbed or dump trucks to haul leftover leaves, logs and branches away from your home.
  • Wood chipping: A tree removal expert can use a wood chipper to chip the trunk and branches following the tree's removal. Afterward, you can add the chips and mulch to your garden to enhance plant growth.
  • Landscaping services: Tree removal contractors sometimes offer landscaping services. They can help you fill holes left over from stump removal or plant a new tree where your old one stood.

Experts Ready to Help

How to choose the best tree removal service in West Palm Beach

Follow these steps to make the right tree removal company decision for your needs.

Ask whether the company has a licensed arborist on staff

Arborists are scientific experts that help you care for your trees. They may recommend restoring the tree's health or removal if a tree has a high fall risk. Arborists can also offer valuable insights on moving, pruning and planting trees to help them grow properly and last for years. Florida doesn't have arborist licensing rules, so we recommend looking for an arborist certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Arborists must have three years of field experience and pass an exam to get certified. ISA-certified arborists have the experience, knowledge and skills to remove your tree.

Make sure the company is licensed and insured

Choose a tree removal company insured for business liability, general liability and workers compensation. A contractor's insurance policy is a safety net for you, your property and the company's team members in case something goes wrong while they work. City and county governments often set their own tree removal licensing regulations. Florida doesn't license these companies at the state level. We recommend checking with the West Palm Beach building department and your county to ensure a prospective contractor complies with the requirements.

Request a tree risk assessment

To determine if removing a tree is necessary, get a professional tree risk assessment (TRA). To perform a TRA, an arborist starts by identifying clear signs of damage from a distance. Then, they'll circle around the tree, closely inspecting the roots, trunk and crown. Sometimes, arborists use specialized gear to study the tree's interior.

Get a free estimate

Many tree removal companies offer free estimates and consultations. Get estimates from multiple companies to compare prices and recommendations.

Read reviews from homeowners

Ask for tree removal company referrals from trusted neighbors, friends and family. Even when you get a referral, take the time to read online reviews on Yelp, Google Reviews and BBB to get a well-rounded perspective before you hire.

Our methodology for selecting tree removal companies

The Homefront Local team employs a proprietary scoring algorithm that evaluates companies based on key factors you value, such as average customer review ratings and trustworthiness indicators. Our method for determining trust involves a comparative analysis of the number of reviews a company receives compared to its local competitors. This leads to companies that have earned more trust from your local community being awarded a higher score.

Nixon Beach (Sandbar) is a popular boating destination spot which is situated approximately a quarter mile south west of Key Biscayne. It's a great place to anchor up for the afternoon and enjoy the weather, scenery and the people you happen to be with. At low tide the water is about waist deep and it's clear blue. It can be a little breezy at times which can cause the boat to rock a bit, but if your use to that then you won't have any problems. You can snorkel and paddle board here and the waters are usually very calm. On the weekends if the weather is nice, it will be packed with day trip boaters, so get here early to secure a nice spot. Now the historical footnote. The sandbar is named after Richard Nixon, the thirty seventh President of The United States. I do vaguely remember him as the President, so I'm aging myself here He vacationed frequently in Key Biscayne during the 1960s and had many political benefactors in the Miami area. Back then, Key Biscayne was more or less a sleepy area with one luxury hotel and a lot of small old Florida style single homes. In 1969, shortly after Nixon became President, he purchased three of these homes on Bay Lane, at well below market prices from Florida Senator George Smathers. The houses were in a compound that had a private beach. The Secret Service & US military had to construct a helipad to accommodate Marine One. The cost of the helipad and security upgrades to the residences was estimated at about 400k. Nixon made fifty trips there during the course of his Presidency (no, there wasn't an audio taping system in the place). Now here is the kicker, after resigning in 1974 he sold the properties, which included the helipad, at a huge profit (no, not a crook ) and was accused of benefiting from taxpayers expense. For you movie buffs Scarface was also filmed on Key Biscayne. The residences were torn down in '04 when a local real estate bought them and built a modern mansion. In addition to taking in the beautiful natural views, you can also admire the multi multi million dollar mansions that are now on Key Biscayne. Mr. Nixon probably should have held on to those properties a little bit longer.

If you haven't pulled up in your boat here during the peak summer months blasting your music then who are you? This is a major spot for boaters searching for a nearby spot to enjoy shallow waters amongst one of the most populated and lively water spots in miami. You can't swim over here so obviously a boat is required but be prepared for a plentiful bunch of party people. With a loaded cooler and plenty of music, you'll fit in just too. It's not for the faint of heart and unless it's on a weekday, I wouldn't label it kid-friendly on most summer weekends. It's not a far drive so arriving here doesn't take much fuel if you're coming from a nearby marina. Don't forget your sunscreen because it's crucial for those days where there's not a cloud in sight.

Ahhhh Nixon! A nice little sandbar just south of bear cut! Don't want to take your boar all the way to Elliot key well Nixon beach is a quarter of a mile south of Key Biscayne. The depth varies from as much as 5 feet to as little as 6 inches (depends on tide and how close you get to sandbar). This is a great place to tie up to a few boats have a BBQ and hang out in the water. He is a cool fact: Nixon beach is named after president Richard Nixon. Why you ask? Well the sandbar runs parallel to his old house on Key Biscayne (just south) so its pretty cool when you anchor up you see this beautiful house on its own little peninsula where a president used to live. FYI! we can rent a party boat its 2500 but its all day! Includes beer and chips! Plus kayaks and a water trampoline! If we get 40 people or so its roughly 70 per person anyone interested?

This was truly a beautiful beach, that had everything that you could ask for. There is the parking lot, Walking deeper in, then the park area where you can barbecue. Further walking you can see the restrooms and showers and then there is your view of the gorgeous beach -Nixon. I had a really great time here since usually I come to Florida for work, this was the only time I came and actually enjoyed the beach. Although it was packed with people, canopy's and full families having reunions full of fun, I found a nice spot for me and my loved ones near the palm trees. * "Sometimes coconuts fall" which is what we were told when we had just sat down , and the beach security asked us to move because we had children in our group, so we did. No biggie. The water was surprisingly clean, I guess since I am used to the muddy-green like waters we have in most spots of New York. I was impressed, the water though was freezing cold!it was a hot day (nearly 90) so it was such a treat to come here. I also noticed that you could drink beer and other alcoholic beverages here as long as they are not in glass bottles. I did not drink on my trip, but that is what I noticed. We stayed until sundown, and then it started to get cold, so we left, but I love that people didn't bother us and there is such a great community over there. I would definitely recommend to go and visit.

Always, nice to get away to the ocean, Nixon Beach is definitely a great spot to relax and enjoy the South Florida sun! Beautiful scenery and clean water with a near by sandbar. I recommend if commuting by boat, to bring some floating devices to attach to your vessel and lay out on the water.
