• No, you’re not seeing things - those certainly are paintings of penises you see everywhere in Bhutan. These paintings are meant to dispel evil and act as a protection against malice. They’re also meant to encourage fertility and were originally encouraged by Drukpa Kunley, or the “Madman from Kyishodruk”, Bhutan’s fertility saint.
• The Bhutanese love spicy food. Red and green chilis can be found in nearly every local dish. In fact, the national dish, ema datse, not only contains chillies, it is also served with dried chillies on top!
• If you come across the royal family during your trip to Bhutan (which is likely to happen, given the country’s small population of about 800,000 people), do not take their photo without permission. Be sure to show respect as the Bhutanese truly love their monarchy.

Bhutan 7 Days Itinerary – The best Solo Travel Experience Guide!

About the post: Before I decided to go for a solo trip to Bhutan by road, like any other traveler, I also had many questions on my mind. Why should I travel to Bhutan? Is it safe to travel in Bhutan alone? What is the culture of Bhutan like? But, after witnessing the scenic beauty of this country, I had a breathtaking experience! This post is my humble attempt to share about the lesser-known yet exhilarating resplendence of Bhutan!

Here I am going to tell you everything you need to know before traveling to Bhutan including itinerary, costs, and FAQs of this trip. You can definitely customize anything according to your personal preferences. Also, I have mentioned some of the places that I couldn’t visit but you can include them in your list. I have framed the whole document in such a way that you can experience the contemporary as well as quaint essence of Bhutan that’ll leave you mesmerized forever!

By Road: If you want to enter Bhutan by road, you can take a flight to Bagdogra airport or travel by train to Hasimara railway station and then book a cab outside the airport or station to reach Phuentsholling.

By air: You can fly from Kolkata, Delhi, Gaya, Bagdogra, Guwahati & Mumbai to the Paro International Airport in Bhutan.

Punakha: At Punakha, I stayed at Damchen Resort , arranged by Zinigo (Travel organizers)

My entire trip to Bhutan cost around Rs. 30000. This includes flight fares, accommodations, transportation, food and other allied expenses. Although the budget of any trip massively depends on the time of visit, mode of conveyance and how you chalk out the complete trip. Without compromising comfort and quality, one can enjoy a vacation in Bhutan even in Rs. 20,000

Day 1: Fasten your seat-belt before landing in heaven!

The journey begins from Delhi to Bagdogra by air. Upon arrival, you can book a prepaid cab from outside the airport itself. It takes approximately 4 hours to reach Phuentsholing that is located in the Indo-Bhutan border area.

Spend the rest of the day by loitering around this beautiful place and start getting lost in the charismatic enchantment of Bhutan.

Other places to visit in Phuentsholing – Bhutan Gate, Amu Chhu Crocodile Breeding Centre. Zangtro Pelri Lhakhang, Zangto Pelri Park, Karbandi Monastery, Torsa River Side, Palden Tashi Chholing Shedra.

Day 2: Time to get the permit!

You must reach the Immigration Office at Phuentsholing early morning to get the Bhutan Entry Permit. If you arrive late, or on holidays, you will be met by long queues and a closed office respectively. In case you are wondering how to obtain a permit, click HERE !

Set out early afternoon post-lunch to Paro. The journey of 4 hours from Phuentsholing to Paro itself offers you the jaw-dropping sight of beautiful people and the unique architecture of Bhutan.

Day 3: Oh Paro, what a marvel you are!

Wake up early to make the most of the day ahead! You can visit Tiger’s Nest or Taktsang Palphug Monastery , the sacred monastery of Guru Rinpoche. You have to hike for 2 hours to reach the peak point and the trek offers you a splendid panoramic view of the mountains and valleys of Paro. If you do not wish to hike on the first day of your trip, you may alternatively follow this itinerary in reverse order!

After finishing the trek and having lunch you can head towards Paro or Rinpung Dzong surrounded by scenic beauty to witness some of the fine architecture. If you are travelling in March, you can attend the popular Tshechu festival of Paro in this Dzong where local masked dance take place.

Other places to visit in Paro – Jangta Dumtseg Lhakhang Temple, Chele La Pass, Airport View Point, Namgay Artisanal Brewery, Zuri Dzong Fort, Drukgyal Dzong Monastery, Dasho Nishioka Chorten Museum, National Museum Of Bhutan, Tamchoe Monastery, Kyichu Lhakhang.

Day 4: Kuzungpo la (Hello), Thimphu!

Leave for Thimpu after eating breakfast and by road, it will take a maximum of two hours to reach Thimphu. After arrival, you can spend the day covering the must-visits like Tashichho Dzong and National Library of Bhutan. Like me, you can also rent a cycle from Wheels on Hills Cycle rentals, to go around Thimphu. But let me warn you in advance, it is a pretty strenuous activity on the mountain slopes.

Day 5: Hold on! Thimphu has more to offer!

Visit Kuenselphodrang Nature Park to see one of the masterpieces of architectural miracles, Buddha Dordenma. It’s a massive statue of bronze more than 50 meters in height. After that you may opt to take a troll in Centenary farmers’ market (open on weekends) to buy some really fresh & organic produces. Just in front of the market there is a traditional bridge that offers a breathtaking view of the town.

Other places to visit in Thimphu – Changangkha Lhakhang, Tango Goemba, National Memorial Garden, Motithang Taki Reserve, Dechen Phodrang, Simply Bhutan, National Institute for Zorig Chusum.

Day 6: Tashi Delek (Welcome) to Punakha!

On your way to Punakha from Thimpu by road, you can stop at astounding places i.e. Simtokha Dzong & Dochula Pass (where Bhutanese soldiers are commemorated by 108 stupas). After checking in to your hotel in Punakha, you can step outside to visit jaw-dropping Punakha Dzong & Punakha Suspension Bridge.

Day 7: Bhutan, Kaadinchhey La (Thank You) for everything!

You can’t leave Bhutan without experiencing its other side where an age-old tradition of worshiping the most intriguing of objects – the phallus is fiercely practiced. Besides, you can buy something from the handicraft market here and visit to the fertility temple.

Other places to visit in Punakha – Khamsum Yully Namgyal Chorten, Ritsha, Mo Chhu, Chimi Lhakhang, Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang, Jigme Dorji National Park, Koma Tsachhu, Limbukha Village.

It’s time to bid adieu & travel back to Phuentsholling, from where the whole trip started.

Best of Beginnings

We land in Paro. We head straight to the capital city, Thimphu, which is less than 2 hours drive. On the way, we stop and take an exhilarating walk across 600 years old, Tachogang Lhakhang bridge, the oldest iron bridge in Bhutan, located just off the Paro-Thimphu highway. Next, we stop at Chuzom which is the point of confluence of two key rivers of Bhutan. Enroute, we also see several Bhutanese villages. Upon arrival in Thimpu, check in at the hotel and relax till we assemble for dinner and get together in evening. Overnight stay at the hotel in Thimphu.

Tune into Thimpu

Post- breakfast we visit the oldest temple in the valley, the Changangkha Monastery and Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang). These are one of the oldest temples of the valley which makes them special and unique. Next, we visit the Zilukha nunnery followed by the textile museum where you would be transported to another time and place. Thimphu offers amazing cafes and restaurants. Break away from the tour and spend the rest of the evening venturing in the area before returning to the hotel. Overnight stay at Thimphu.

Picture Perfect Dochula Pass

Post breakfast, we drive towards the beautiful valley of Punakha passing by one of the prettiest mountain pass, Dochula pass at 3150m. If the weather permits, we can enjoy a beautiful view of the highest mountains of Bhutan at a sight that stretches almost 180 degrees. After a photo break, we will continue our drive downhill. Enroute we will visit the rice field of Chimi Lhakhang, known to the English speaking world as The Fertility Temple, is a Buddhist monastery in the Punakha District of Bhutan, ideally placed on a round hill. Overnight stay in Punakha.

Lush Green Punakha

Post -breakfast, we head for a hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, which will take about 45 minutes to reach the top. Feeling more adventurous? Get into a raft and enjoy a spot of white water rafting on the Mother River (at extra cost). For those looking to take it easy, a day of doing nothing at the hotel is recommended before joining the rest to visit Punakha Dzong and the iron suspension bridge here. Continue with sightseeing and visit Punakha Suspension Bridge and Punakha Dzong. Dinner and overnight stay in Punakha.

Gateway to Bhutan

Post- breakfast, we drive from Punakha to Paro which is located on the banks of the River Paro. This is one of Bhutan’s gateways to the master trek to Tiger’s nest and retains its age-old charm complete with colorful wooden houses lining the streets. Next we will visit the imposing dzong or stupa built here which anchors the town and also the local museum which gives a sense of Bhutanese history down the ages. Walk through the town on foot in the second half for lunch where there are numerous cafes dotting the street. Dinner and overnight stay in Paro.

Breathtaking Tiger’s Nest

We start the trek to Tiger’s Nest early morning. The monastery is one of the oldest and most pristine in Bhutan. It is an arduous trek that can be covered in 2-3 hours one way, depending on the physical fitness of the individual. This is truly the highlight of the trip as most people who travel to Bhutan are geared towards this dramatic trek and monastery. Those who do not wish to undertake this trek can visit picturesque Chalela Pass and capture some stunning views. Overnight stay in Paro.

The recently concluded trip to Bhutan (16 -22 September '18) by WOW Club was an experience in itself. I would highly recommend it to my friends and family. Amazing experience in Bhutan, simply out of the world. Meeting new people, seeing new places and yummy food. This time I went with 2 of my friends but came back with 20 friends. Right from the word go it was an amazing trip. The very first sight of Bhutan after getting off the plane was a visual treat.The shimmering waters all along our trip from paro to thimpu and the mountains to add to the charm. Bhutan received us with mountains all around , this neat and beautiful country with the lovely people was truly a great visit. The painted houses and the monastery was a perfect back drop for travellers, we visited monastery, trekked through the mountains to reach the tigers nest. I am very impressed that we had trekking for three days, Amid paddy fields enroute to Chimi Lhakhang temple, the divine symbols every where. All the three days trekking was great fun. The last day trek to tigers nest called the Taktsang was I could say a feat of achievement for me. The river rafting was definitely a surprise and we were absolutely thrilled doing it. Words fail when I speak about our dear Kushika so charming and friendly and helpful throughout. The group was absolute fun coming from various places it was magical bonding on the mountains of Bhutan. I should conclude the scenic place, with all the adventures, wonderful group and with our dear wow buddy kushika you can't ask for more. My first trip with wow and it was truly a beautiful experience.

At least 5 days are necessary if you want to visit all the most popular tourist attractions in Bhutan, such as the Taktsang Monastery (Tiger Nest Monastery), National Museum and Tashichho Dzong. Around 7 days are needed if you want to travel to some remote area, such as the Haa Valley. Around 10 days are needed if you want to trek on the mountains and valleys in Bhutan. Some of our customers even spent 30 days, the longest staying time allowed for tourists, exploring over two thirds of the land of the country.

It is more unlikely to have altitude sickness in Bhutan than most other high-altitude areas. There are two reasons.

First, most tourist attractions in Bhutan are located in the middle area of Bhutan, where the altitude is between 2000 meters and 3000 meters. As you may have known, most people will have altitude sickness only when they are in areas, where the altitude is over 3000 meters.

Second, the percentage of forest cover in Bhutan is over 72.5%. So, the oxygen content in air is higher than most other high-altitude area.

Tipping is recommended but not required . The Bhutan government do not require tourists to tip drivers, tour guides, waiters and other local people who will serve you, because their income is not bad. However, tipping is still recommended, because if you tip them, they will offer even better service, especially for hiking and mountaineering itineraries, you might need porters and cooks, and they need to carry heavy luggage or cooking utensils during the tour.

The Electronic visa is the most popular type of visa for tourists who want to travel to Bhutan. You just need to send us the photocopy of your passport (the page with your photo). You can also apply for a Bhutan visa in India or Nepal, where there are Bhutan embassies. Citizens of India, Bangladesh and Maldives can travel to Bhutan without applying for a visa.

Although it is not difficult for tourists to apply for a Bhutan visa, tourists are not allowed to travel to Bhutan on their own. The best way to travel to Bhutan is taking a plane to Paro, where Bhutan's only international airport is located in, from Thailand, India, Nepal, Bangladesh or Singapore. Druk Air, the Royal Bhutan Airlines, is the only carrier for the international flights to Bhutan

The Indian cities, where there are flights to Bhutan, are Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Gaya and Guwahati. Other Cities, where there are flights to Bhutan, are Bangkok (Thailand), Kathmandu (Nepal), Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Changi (Singapore).

Tourists can also travel to Bhutan from India by road, but the condition of the roads is not good, so this way is not recommended.

The best times to travel to Bhutan are March , April , May , June , September and October . Based on the differences of altitudes, Bhutan is divided into north, middle and south parts. The altitude of the north part is over 3000 meters and very cold, while the south part is only around 1500 meters above the sea level and very wet and hot. Fortunately, most tourist attractions are in the middle part, where enjoys mild climate and is suitable for tourism all year round. However, the climate of the 5 months listed above is even more delightful, so tourists will get the best experience if they travel to Bhutan in those 5 months.

He is fluent in English and Chinese, so he communicated with my parents very well. The itinerary for each day was clear and well-arranged. Each meal was taken care of with a lot of effort. To be honest, I was a little reluctant to book with Asia Odyssey Travel as they are not US based and the price was much lower than other tours. But I took a chance and very happy that I did. Asia Odyssey Travel did a great job start to finish. Prior to leaving for our tour, Kyle was in frequent contact with a very quick response time.

And once there, our tour guide (Karma) driver (Yeshi) were fantastic.They tailored our excursions to our liking. Very knowledgeable and finny! They even carried my camera gear to the Tigers nest as it was quite a hike for me being 68 years old. In addition to be in very interesting, they were very fun. Bhutan is a wonderful country and Karma and Yeshi made us feel right at home. They even invited us to one of their local hangouts one evening to play snookers. Highly recommend Asia Odyssey Travel.

The best experience I have!

I have booked for a family trip ( my elder mother+ 2 toddlers kids + me and my sister= 5 persons). We came all the way from France to Bangkok to Bhutan.

Our tour person Mr Tony Yin is a professional and efficient person. He makes sure all things go smoothly and he replies my WhatsApp messages each time when necessary.

When arriving at Paro airport (Bhutan), our local tour guide Mr Pema very very very gentle and polite, and he waited us there since 2 hours before our arrival. Our local driver , Mr Karma is a lovely man, strong man and stable, we respect him alot as he knows how to drive on the difficult roads in Bhutan.

The most touching part is Mr Pema and Mr karma accompanied us all the way to the Taktshang monastery (tiger's nest) up to the hill and then down to the base! They carried our kids on them and our things. Bhutan trip is an unforgettable experience, because local people are educated, yet modest, rich in culture and environmentally preserved, compassion, sharing , love and happiness, although they are materially poor conditions ! I would recommend everyone to follow this tour to Bhutan, to give our children a good teaching of authentic way of living.

Memorable trip

One of the best trips I ever had, I give five stars for the professionalism and good itinerary. I had a great informatory trip. The guid was very knowledgeable with all part of and the city. His historic background is rich and coming from the heart. Our driver was very careful and patient with traffic and both were very prompt. One small hiccup in one of the hotels (Which I don’t think they have control off) that they were offering hot water from 6pm-11pm. And 6am -9 am everyday and had no shampoo. Other than that food was ok and service was good. I highly recommend this travel agency, if you go to Bhutan make sure to use them.

Amazing trip to one of the most secluded countries

I was a little bit worried at first because I don't know anyone from Bhutan, and it was hard to find information on the internet. But Asia Odyssey did not disappoint. The consultant (Kyle) is very patient and cater all my requests (including proof of company incorporation).

This 16th-century monastery has extraordinary architecture and is a must-visit while in Bhutan. It is a cluster of buildings that looks as if it is cascading down a 900-metre-high cliff. It consists of 4 temples, praying spaces, and residences for monks. The monastery is reachable only after a steep 2-3 hour climb, so make sure to include this place in your Bhutan tour packages.

"Travel Addiction - A feeling of restlessness experienced by people who have seen something magical and cannot stop the desire for more. "

I felt it, I lived it, right until - I had booked another ticket. You know that moment, when music is blaring out of radio for hours but one song manages to get your attention; That is a moment of consciousness when a song managed to reach you. Travel is that one song that reaches me. I was back from a month long trip to Himachal and no amount of Chamomile tea could keep me calm. Home is good, friends are lovely but it will be end of 2015 without any new country crossed from list was something, I was not ready for. I browsed and browsed aimlessly trying to find an easy escape to the unknown before New Year's Eve, that is also cheap; given the "brokedom" that prevailed. Thus I zeroed on Bhutan.

Factors to choose Bhutan :

1. Can be reached by roads and rails, flights not mandatory.

2. No currency exchange required. They love Indian Rupees, its of equivalent value.

3. Its gonna be December chances to see snow. (I love snow.)

4. Black necked cranes migrates to Phobjikha valley only in December.( This was my green signal from God to go for it!)

5. Less of tourist crowd also known as off season. So everything cheap. (I am a huge fan of off seasons).

6. Best reason - YOU DO NOT NEED A VISA . You get a permit on voters ID or passport.

Everything was great till I read the Godforsaken RULE – Single travelers (Indian Citizens) will no longer be issued permit to visit Bhutan. It seemed like a joke at first - Bhutan has Highest Gross happiness Quotient and since single people are apparently sad thus not allowed(:p). But it really was a thing. Nothing spoils a trip more than unwanted drama for me. I wanted to go there and I wanted to travel solo and guess what I did it!

Reaching Bhutan:

1. If you are broke - Best way to reach is- a train to Hasimara station or New Alipurduar or Siliguri or Kolkata (In decreasing order of convenience.)

From all these places (except Hasimara that's just 20km away from Jaigaon), you can take a bus to Jaigaon that is Indo-Bhutan border town. Since I booked last minute I took a train to Kolkata and then to Siliguri and then a Bus to Phuentsholing from bus stand at New Jalpaiguri (taxi will take you from station to this bus stand). You can buy tickets on spot first bus leaves at 7:30am. Ticket Rs 140.

2. If you are not broke - Fly in Paro by Druk Airways.

Tips to get permit when going solo:

There are two ways to get permit without extra drama and third way is with drama -

1. Go to a tour operator in Jaigaon, tell them you are travelling solo and if they will club you with their existing guests for getting permit. They will and mostly they will charge you around 500 bucks for giving you your hassle free permit.

2. Go to immigration office early. Observe a friendly looking person and enquire from him if you can join them till the process of getting permit. You can because they are cool.

3. Go and tell the truth at immigration office. Talk. Tell them about your life, why you travel alone and how are you prepared to not get killed in their very safe country. This way is uncertain. Based on your negotiation skills and patience. If you fail, still you can visit one town Phuentsholing in the name of Bhutan.

Passport size photographs and a Government issued ID proof.

So the permit you get at Phuentsholing immigration office gives you entry for 7 days to Paro and Thimpu . For extending stay and visiting restricted places like Haa valley, Punakha, Phobjikha etc you need to go to Thimpu Immigration office .

Commuting within Bhutan:

You need to understand Bhutan is a small country 300kms and 150kms length and breadth wise. Bus and taxis are the only ways you could travel within Bhutan. Taxis can be hired at about 2000Nu least per day depending on bargain. If you are lucky you will find people you can share it with. Buses are available for cheaper commute between cities.

There is no way you can book hotels in Bhutan online through their website. All hotels listed on travel websites of India were way overpriced. So I did not book in advance and relied on locals to give info about whats good where.

Barsana Hotel

In Jaigaon - I stayed at Barsana Hotel. Good clean rooms.

Hotel Phunsum

In Paro – Hotel Phunsum. Excellent Hotel. Best stay in Bhutan for me. (room with hot bathtub Rs 700 :p)

Central lodge

In Thimpu - Cheap hotels are bad in comparison to Paro. I stayed in Central Lodge that was relatively better and available.

In Wangdue - I couldn't find accommodation in Punakha so we went 20mins further to town called Wangdue. Cheaper stays. I stayed in Hotel Kinten.

I absolutely loved Bhutan's food. Bhutanese cuisine is full of chillies and cheese.

Buffet lunch at Taksang Cafe.

I mostly ate at small restaurants along street. They served tastiest delicacies:

Some pork and beef dishes with rice and dal.

Alcohol is relatively cheap in Bhutan. Do try Takin wine, Zum Zin Peach wine and Arah their local wine. I have heard K7 and Highland whiskeys are real smooth and help bear the harsh winter. Do try Suja Butter tea and Thuppa you get in late night on street.

The moment you step into this country, you will realise why it is called - The Royal Kingdom of Bhutan . It was nothing like anything I had seen before. Be it the uniformity of the colour coordinated structures they build, prayer flags and wheels everywhere even at the remotest places, their love for Royal family or the sheer mystic aura that prevails. It was surreal. One more thing I noticed was, Bhutanese woman do all odd jobs that are male dominated and will be frowned upon in India- like woman porter helping with luggage, Women road construction workers on highways or women local taxi drivers, Shopkeepers and also both the places I stayed in Paro and Thimpu were owned by women. When I enquired it from a guide I met, if Bhutan is a female dominated society, he shrugged and said- "we are an equalist nation". Everybody did look happy and content. I am so glad, I chose to visit this beautiful non-boasting humble nation. Its cultural profoundness and numerous stories, I am gonna remember for a very long time. Happy Travelling!

I have been to Kolkata as a kid, when it used to be Calcutta. I remember having most amazing time back then at Nico Park and how I walked down those beautiful spiral stairs of Victoria memorial trying to imagine how would it feel to be a Princess. I wanted to revisit those memories, so I made a stop to Kolkata. First thing you would notice about Kolkata is its massive population. You see people everywhere on roads, beside road on footpaths, bordering small alleys, everywhere and they are on a move. Always. The traffic is bad. I mostly walked around, both to save money and found it more time efficient. Not even one instance in which I was bothered by anyone as I scaled kms alone. I loved the spectacle clad, intellectual crowd that dominates Kolkata. I would write separate post to do justice with this marvellous place.

Where to eat: Chello kebab at Peter Cat, Biryani at Zum Zum, Bengali food at Ekante and Ballygunge 6, Street food at Park street and Lindsay road they are cheap and delicious, Misti Doi.

Places to visit: Victoria Memorial, Indian Museum, Princep Ghat, Mother House, Eco park.

Where to stay: I stayed at Oyo room in Elgin Road because of close proximity to places I wanted to visit. I prefer Oyo rooms for bigger and not so touristy cities.

As Bhutan immigration office was closed, I had to stay back at border town of Jaigaon. It is small place and mostly people who have come to visit Bhutan and are taking a day off for rest post their long journey stay there apart from locals. Interesting thing about this place is that they except Bhutanese currency. I suggest you take a Bhutan sim because if you have automatic network selected on your phone and get in Bhutan network you will be charged heavy roaming. I took Tashi sim. They have tourist sims of 1 month validity. Get it from their Phuentsholing office. Internet is really good throughout Bhutan on Tashi Network even at Tiger's Nest trail in Paro :D. Eat- Momos, Chowmein.

Phuentsholing

So when you enter from Jaigaon side of Bhutan Gate you will reach Phuentsholing. Bhutan is 30 minutes ahead of IST. Its beautiful quaint place and relatively cheaper in comparison to Thimpu. Immigration office is here and you will get buses to all major bhutanese cities from Bus Stand. You also get shared cabs. You cannot buy tobacco in Bhutan(legally) as it is ban. But you can carry it with you. Nobody checked at entry though. Strange.

I thoroughly enjoyed Paro. In fact I enjoyed it the most. Many people stay at Thimpu and come for Tiger's Nest to paro and then go back to Thimpu. I am so glad I chose Paro to stay- It saved both time and money also given the fact stay is much better here and lovely peaceful place. So when you are coming from Phuentsholing you will reach Chunzum there is a diversion for Paro and Thimpu they are both around 30kms from there. On first day, I went to Chele La Pass from where you get lovely view of mountains and you can also see Haa Valley, after that I went to Rinpung Dzong, National Museum and Kichu Lakhang. Next day I went on Tiger's Nest Trek.

Taktsang Trail

It is one trek that everyone should experience once in lifetime. It is about 5 miles long trail and people generally take around 3 hours to reach this amazing monastery on the cliff. It's unbelievable as to how they could achieve something like that. So there are three points of this trek. First you will reach Taktsang Cafeteria, So get good view of Taktsang monastery from here. Second you will reach that photo point with a slab just before stairs begin. Here is a lovely Tea place with butter lamp offerings.

As I reached there a monk gave me milk, tea bag and hot water. DIY tea. :D He did not ask for money though we did donate some. Getting tea then was magical. How much I miss how happy I felt that moment. Third point is reaching monastery, I suggest do take series of complicated stairs to real Tiger's Nest. Seeing it was like justification of coming to Bhutan. Unearthly Beauty. After descent I went off to Thimphu city.

It is nothing like Paro. It is a bustling city which will show you modern side of Bhutan. It has numerous shops for all kind of things Clothes, Trekking Gear, Handicrafts, Alcohol and everything else. Bhutanese have a thing for Karaoke. There are several Karaoke bars you will find around this city. From here I got permit for Wangdue and Phobjikha. Also added Haa Valley just for fun of it. Here I had found a group of three and I took the permit along with them. They also became travel companions for rest of the days in Bhutan as we shared same cab to Punakha.

Wangdue Phodrang

After a day's rest in Thimpu we left to see Punakha. You will cross Dochula pass on your way to Punakha where 108 memorial chortens were built by Queen in honour of the Bhutanese soldiers who were killed in the December 2003 war. It was 25th December and it snowed while I was at Dochula, it made me so happy. :D Punakha Dzong is one of most beautiful Dzong by the river. After visiting the monastery we went to stay at small place to stay called wangdue. It a quiet little mountain village. Like rest of Bhutan this is also straight out of fairytale.

Phobjikha Valley

It was one of the most beautiful valleys I visited in Bhutan. The beautiful sun kissed moors were like my Famous Five fantasy place. I saw Black necked cranes in wild as we got out of car and went closest we could without scaring them. It was absolutely beautiful experience. We also went to famous Gangtey monastry on way back to Thimpu.
