A Perfect Circle, Puscifer and Primus announce 2024 birthday tour for Maynard James Keenan

The trio of bands will embark on a seven-date US run next year

A Perfect Circle , Puscifer and Primus have announced a joint tour for 2024, in celebration of Maynard James Keenan ’s 60th birthday.

Keenan, who forms part of both A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, will share the stage on the seven-date run with both his fellow bandmates and the Primus trio. Dubbed the ‘Sessanta’ tour, the US jaunt kicks off in Phoenix, Arizona on Maynard James Keenan’s birthday on April 17, with a show slated for the following night (April 18) in San Diego, California.

From there, the trio of bands will perform at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles (April 20), the Greek Theatre in Berkeley (April 21) and Utah’s Maverik Center (April 23). The joint tour concludes with a two-night stint at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre from April 25.

According to a press release, the shows will entail a unique format in which members from the trio of bands will join each other’s performances, with each band having a distinct set that rolls continually to the next as the concert unfolds.

“Bands aren’t used to simultaneously sharing the stage with other bands, but if anyone can do it, it’s Primus, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer,” Keenan said.

Pre-sale tickets for the ‘Sessanta’ tour go on sale on September 14, while general on-sale will be available the following day (September 15). Find ticketing details here .

Q: Does Sessanta have a minimum age?    

A: Nope! The event is open to people of all ages! However, when purchasing a travel package, you must be age 21+ to purchase the travel package and check into the hotel. People under the age of 21 may still occupy a room; however, the person whose name is booked on the reservation must be 21+ to check in and must present valid photo identification.   

Q: How should I place my order? Can I order over the phone?     

A: We are unable to process any orders over the phone and therefore all packages must be purchased online. You should click the purchase button to be directed to another site to make your order – the ticketing agent of the shows.    

Q: Can I acquire Accessible Seating as part of a package?     

A: Availability and type of accessible seating tickets will vary based on the venue’s policies. If you would like to inquire about accessible seating as part of a package, please reach out to us at [email protected] or at 855-345-8161 immediately after purchase. We will go over any available options.   

Q: Do these travel packages come with concert-access?    

A: Yes! All travel packages come with either 2 or 4 Reserved or VIP tickets.  

Q: What is included with the VIP ticket that is offered within the travel packages?     

A: The VIP package included with the travel packages is the tour’s “Sessanta Birthday Celebration VIP” and it includes the following –  

•   One premium reserved ticket located in rows 2-12  
• Priority early entry into the venue  
• Specially designed Sessanta tour shirt  
• Collectible Sessanta autographed tour poster  
• Exclusive Sessanta VIP merchandise item  
• Sessanta tour laminate  
• Early access to tour merchandise stand  
• On-site host  

    Q: I purchased a travel package as a gift, but I will not be in attendance. How can my friend or family member pick up their ticket on my behalf?     

A: To accommodate this, the original purchaser must contact our Guest Services team at [email protected] to authorize an alternate pick-up person at least 2 weeks before the event date. This authorization will allow a friend or family member to pick up the package on the purchaser’s behalf. All informational emails and correspondence will still go to the original purchaser, and it is up to them to relay the information to the guest that is attending the event.   

Q: Can I purchase A Toast To Sessanta Upgrade at the Box Office?     

A: No, upgrade packages will not be available for purchase at the Box Office. You must purchase online ahead of time.    

Q: Is there a payment plan for these hotel travel packages?    

A: Yes, there are payment plans for all travel packages! An initial 60% will be charged upon purchasing your package and the final 40% payment will be automatically deducted on 10/20/23. If you purchase after October 20th, you will be charged for the package in full upon your purchase. Please note : This is an automatic payment plan, meaning you won’t need to choose to enter it – you’re on the plan simply by clicking “purchase.” Please note – additional ticketing or purchase fees may apply.   

Q: Where will I receive my tickets?     

A: Hotel Packages – On Location representatives will be at a designated location within the hotel to assist you. Here you can check in, and pick up your tickets, as well as any merchandise or additional items that come with your package. Basically, one-stop check-in for everything!   

Please be sure to bring your photo ID and credit card. Although your room is paid for in full, you will need a credit card for any incidentals you may incur. As it gets closer to the event, the package purchaser will receive an informational email with the exact time and location for Travel Package check-in.   

A Toast to Sessanta Upgrade – You will receive your upgrade tickets through AXS. Simply log into your AXS account used to purchase.   

Q: Is parking provided at the hotel?    

A: Hotel parking is not included in the package. Valet and self-parking are available upon arrival for additional fees. However, our complimentary shuttle transportation is available to and from the venue.  As it gets closer to the event, the package purchaser will receive an email with all of the event details, including the times and locations for the shuttle services.   

Q: What time is hotel check-in?    

A: Check-in at the Hyatt Centric Downtown Denver is at 4pm and check-out is at 11am.   

Q: When can I check in for the A Toast to Sessanta Upgrade if I purchased the upgrade?    

A: Check-in will generally occur about 2 hours before doors open to the public on 4/26. We will provide the specific times and check-in location for your show in our informational email that will be sent about one week before the concert. Please refer to those confirmed times when sent to you!    

Q: If I’m unable to make it to A Toast to Sessanta check-in during check-in hours, how can I receive my merchandise?     

A: All merchandise will be distributed at the show. If you do not collect your items during the check-in hours listed in the informational email, we are unable to mail the items after the show .    

Q: Is there a secure space where I can leave my merchandise during the show?     

A: Once you receive everything at check-in, you may have the opportunity to bring the items back to your car before entering the concert venue. We cannot guarantee this, though, as it ultimately depends on venue security prerogatives.    

Q: What is a dedicated host?     

A: The host is basically an extension of our Guest Services team at the event itself. He/she will be available for any questions or concerns that may arise during the program.    

Q: The people attending the event with me may be arriving late. How would they get their tickets, merchandise, etc.?     

A: The original purchaser will check in for all package materials, and he/she will then be able to distribute accordingly. Thus, we advise your whole party to come to check-in at the same time to make it quick and easy.    

Q: Can I use my ON Location package for a contest/giveaway or to promote my website/product/event?     

A: No. On Location trademarks, intellectual property, tickets and other offerings may NOT be used for advertising, promotions, auctions, contests, sweepstakes or any commercial purpose, without express written consent from On Location and its partners. Please see our purchase policy for more details.     

Q: What if I change my mind and don’t want my package?     

A: All packages are non-refundable. Please refer to the Purchase Policy for complete details.    

Q: Am I going to have an amazing time?

A Perfect Circle , Puscifer , and Primus  are celebrating the impending launch of their joint “Sessanta” tour with a new split EP.

Dubbed the Sessanta E.P.P.P. , the release features a new song by each band that was co-written alongside Maynard James Keenan , whose 60th birthday is the cause for celebration behind the tour itself. The track titles are as follows: “Kindred” (A Perfect Circle); “No Angel” (Puscifer); and “Pablo’s Hippos” (Primus).

The EP will be released on March 29th — just days before the tour kicks off — and will be available digitally and on vinyl. As a teaser, “Old Man” Maynard appears in a hilarious announcement video to hype up both the tour and EP, and you can watch that clip below.

The Sessanta webstore is carrying an exclusive glow-in-the-dark vinyl variant with red and yellow swirls and the B-side etching of the Sessanta mascot, Cerbero. There is also a signed, tour-exclusive variant that limited to 75 copies per night and features the three tracks on the A-side along with exclusive instrumental versions of each song on the B-side. Plus, a different color variant will be exclusive to each show and showcased daily on the bands’ socials.

As a part of their rotating/overlapping set structure, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and Primus will perform the three songs from the EP on the upcoming tour dates. The outing kicks off April 2nd in Boston and runs through May 4th (get tickets here ).

“Sessanta” Celebrates MJK’s 60th Birthday @ Red Rocks

Sessanta–the tour comprised of two of Maynard James Keenan’s bands, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, and Primus–kicked off its two-night stint at Red Rocks on April 25th in Colorado. Celebrating MJK’s 60th birthday, this tour is unique in that each band shares the stage for a few songs at a time, keeping the crowd intrigued and constantly on their feet (although it did make for some tough decisions on when to grab a drink or use facilities!)

The show began with an amusing video of MJK “advertising” Spam, and joking that the meat (?) is made of fans who violate his notorious cell phone policies. With the entire audience cracking up, A Perfect Circle took the stage first with “The Package,” after which MJK reminded the audience once again to keep their cell phones in their pockets. “Nobody wants to watch a concert with some guy and his stupid phone in front of them,” he declared. He gets a lot of flak for this, but he’s not wrong. “We want you to be present with us, so strap the f*ck in,” he said. “Disillusioned,” and “The Contrarian” finished APC’s first set, with MJK’s vocals flawless as always, echoing into the open air while a few casual raindrops fell and the wind picked up throughout Red Rocks.

Next up was Primus, which set off the dancing portion of the set as vocalist/bassist Les Claypool happily slapped his bass in the way only he can, while trippy visuals lit up the stage and monitors amidst a rising cloud of smoke in the crowd (know your audience, I suppose). “Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweakers” started off the mini-set, followed by “Too Many Puppies,” “Sgt. Baker,” and “Follow the Fool.”

Then it was on to Puscifer’s first set, filling the amphitheatre with mellow rock tracks “Man Overboard, “Horizons,” and “Indigo Children.” MJK and female vocalist Carina Round had the crowd captivated with their unique choreography and costumes against the stunning sound of the music behind them, bouncing off the jutting rocks on either side of the amp. Sound truly doesn’t get any better than Red Rocks, and despite the night getting even windier and freezing raindrops becoming more frequent, it made being outside worth it.

Act 2 began with Primus returning to the stage with “Jerry Was A Race Car Driver,” “My Name is Mud,” and “Jerry the Cat,” during which MJK joined Claypool on stage. Puscifer came back for “Postulous,” “Momma Sed,” “Bullet Train to Iowa,” and “The Underwhelming,” and A Perfect Circle finished with “The Noose,” “The Hollow,” “Weak and Powerless,” and “So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.” All of the bands seemed to be having a blast playing together, and I hope this could become standard for more concerts in the future. The crowd, unencumbered by their cell phones, was indeed more present and connected with the bands than any show I’ve been to, and it was a nice change.

The final act brought Puscifer back with the fantastic “The Humbling River” and “The Remedy,” APC with “Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums,” and the iconic “Judith,” with Claypool joining in. Primus came back with APC guitarist Billy Howerdel for “Southbound Pachyderm,” before all the bands came back to perform songs from the Sessanta E.P.P.P , including “Kindred,” “No Angel,” and “Pablo’s Hippos.”

The moment the audience was waiting for finally came: MJK announced he would allow photography and video during the last song of the night, and yet it didn’t go quite as planned. Something happened on stage that shut down half of the equipment as members of all three bands were preparing for the final song. “So everything on this side of the stage just blew up,” MJK announced. “I blame you,” he jokingly said to the audience.

While waiting to see what would happen, the members of the bands started singing random songs while Billy Howerdel grabbed a camera to take photos of the audience, and everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to MJK. In the end, they decided to just play anyway, launching into Primus’ “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver,” with Claypool donning a pig mask, not letting the technical issues stop the fun.

Concert Review: The Sessanta Tour — Three of Alt-Rock’s Top-Tier Bands Triumphant

Sessanta succeeded in making “old” songs and “old” bands sound powerful, vital, and progressive.

Last Tuesday, the Sessanta tour launched its five-week trek across America at Boston’s Boch Center – Wang Theatre with a stunning three-hour show that wove together the music of Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, and Primus.

This unique 30-song revue by three of alt-rock’s top-tier bands is a celebration of Maynard James Keenan’s 60 th birthday, which occurs on April 17 when this show reaches Arizona. But don’t mistake Sessanta as one big ego trip by the dynamic frontman of Puscifer and A Perfect Circle, the two bands Keenan leads when he’s not busy working with Tool. Sessanta’s opening night drew a sold-out crowd deeply into a pool of music made by bands who share a heritage but also offer contrasting perspectives. A second sold-out show at the Wang was set for Wednesday.

With A Perfect Circle, Keenan collaborates with guitarist and songwriter Billy Howerdel to create a brand of angular rock that swings between heavier and lighter tones to create big, communal rallying cries.

With Puscifer, Keenan is in cahoots with guitarist and keyboard player Mat Mitchell and singer Carina Round. That group takes an experimental and exploratory approach to its music while still being able to produce grand, embracing gestures.

Primus is the wild card on this tour. The trio, led by bass virtuoso Les Claypool, exploited its lurching, metallic funk to bring a distinctly different texture into a presentation which was structured to have each band play rotating mini-sets. Primus drummer Tim Alexander has performed and recorded with both A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, but Sessanta offers listeners an invaluable opportunity to watch Claypool and Keenan, two rock ’n’ roll visionaries-turned-elder-statesmen, mix their creativity on stage to exuberant effect.

The concert unfolded on a two-tiered stage, with three drum kits stationed on the upper level, flanked by couches for the musicians on break to perch, watch, and to occasionally descend into the action happening on stage.

A Perfect Circle opened the evening and turned in a magnetic performance despite its long period of inactivity. Original drummer Josh Freese, on loan to Sessanta for a couple of weeks from his new gig with the Foo Fighters, was a powerhouse, generating the big dynamic surges that give this group its dramatic flair. Keenan, decked out in black suit, raccoon-eye makeup, and blonde faux-hawk wig, chewed up the scenery on the opening tune “The Package,” relishing the lines “Clever got me this far, then tricky got me in.”

APC closed its first appearance with “Disillusioned” and “The Contrarian,” both from the band’s last album Eat the Elephant , which came out in 2018. Puscifer’s Round sang with Keenan during “The Contrarian.” Failure’s Greg Edwards pulled double duty all night, playing guitar alongside Howerdel in APC and handling bass duties in Puscifer.

Primus took the second slot with a three-song set that forecast its approach to Sessanta’s opening night: stick to the classics. While Keenan’s bands rifled through their catalogs with a bit more sense of adventure, Claypool kept it old-time Primus: hence we heard “My Name is Mud,” “Too Many Puppies,” “Jerry Was a Racecar Driver” and other popular repertoire staples.

But Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde, and drummer Alexander were devastating, no matter what they played. From its opening  number“Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers” to the band’s final outing on “Southbound Pachyderm” at show’s end, Primus was a pillar of brute sonic stability.

That’s not to say Primus wasn’t willing to stretch out. In the show’s middle section, Keenan was given the mic to sing Claypool’s tall tale of “Tommy the Cat,” and during “Southbound Pachyderm” Primus welcomed Freese and Puscifer drummer Gunnar Olsen into the fold for an extended jam.

Puscifer ranged farthest of the three bands, simply because it could. A Puscifer concert is usually tied to the release of a new album so the show’s narrative structure is aligned with the fresh setlist. For Sessanta, Puscifer is just winging it, and it is a joy to experience.

For its first set, Puscifer pulled “Man Overboard” and “Tiny Monster” from 2011’s Conditions of My Parole then “Indigo Children” from the group’s 2007 debut album. Puscifer’s appealingly elusive and shapeshifting sound was matched by the frenetic energy Keenan, Round, and Mitchell displayed on stage as they bound about, mugged, and danced their way through this provocative material.

In the show’s middle section, Puscifer concentrated on the dystopian themes of its last studio album, Existential Reckoning , playing “Postulous,” “Bullet Train to Iowa,” and “The Underwhelming” from that record, though the band did reach back for the rootsy life-lessons lecture “Momma Sed.”

The best collaborations that occurred in that segment took place in APC’s set. Alexander from Primus played drums on “The Hollow” and Claypool, wearing a pig mask and bowing an upright bass, sat in on a rapturous “So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.”

The concert’s final section featured a blend of new material and big numbers. Before the tour began, the bands released a three-song E.P. (or the “Sessanta E.P.P.P.” as it has been dubbed, given the tour’s alliterative lineup). It was also the portion of the show that felt the most tentative. While APC’s contributions of “Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums” and “Judith” were dependably rock solid, Puscifer seemed to run out of steam on an otherwise beautiful rendition of “Humbling River” before shifting gears into a thuggish “The Remedy.”

The aforementioned “Southbound Pachyderm” seems to be positioned to become the evening’s big jam vehicle, what with APC bassist Matt McJunkins joining into this drumming extravaganza of a number.

The new Puscifer song “No Angel” and APC tune “Kindred” were solid performances. They signified that Keenan’s mission was to keep forging ahead – 60 is hardly too old to rock and roll. “Pablo’s Hippos,” the new Primus song produced by Keenan — on which he shares vocal duties with Claypool — was too much of a Frankentune, composed from familiar elements of the Primus sound to take seriously — let’s consider it a one-off whipped up for this tour.

Thankfully, Sessanta ended on a glorious note, as all the musicians took part in a majestic reading of Puscifer’s “Grand Canyon.”

Age jokes were sprinkled throughout the performance, both in videos shown between songs and with antics on stage. But there was nothing geriatric about these performances: Sessanta succeeded in making “old” songs and “old” bands sound powerful, vital, and progressive.

Sessanta, an untraditional tour that sees Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, and Primus joining forces, and sharing band members, is slated for April of 2024.

The Western U.S. outing is a resurrection, and expansion, of the 2014 Los Angeles event, Cinquanta, which was originally a one-time only celebration. Much like that fabled evening, which commemorated Maynard James Keenan’s landmark 50th birthday, Sessanta celebrates the Puscifer and A Perfect Circle frontman as he turns 60.

Sessanta’s unique format sees the musicians from the trio of bands joining each other’s performances throughout the concert. While each group will have their own distinctive set, the players will continually transform as the night unfolds.

“It took some massaging, and some long days in rehearsal, but we managed to seamlessly pull off this three-song rotation at Cinquanta, my 50th birthday shows, at The Greek Theatre in 2014,” says Keenan of the seven-date run that also sees A Perfect Circle’s first live performances since 2018. “Bands aren’t used to simultaneously sharing the stage with other bands, but if anyone can do it, it’s Primus, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer.”

A PERFECT CIRCLE, PRIMUS, PUSCIFER expand 2024 Sessanta tour to Northeast

Maynard James Keenan 's 60th birthday tour has gone from a small West Coast run to a full-fledged U.S. bonanza. 

Last month, the TOOL frontman announced that his two other bands,  A Perfect Circle  and  Puscifer , would be joining forces with funk-metal greats  Primus  for an untraditional tour that will see all three bands share the stage at the same time. 

Dubbed  Sessanta , the 2024 trek is a callback to Keenan's 50th birthday celebration, Cinquanta, which was supposed to be a one-off collaboration between APC, Puscifer and Primus in Los Angeles. 

After the initial announcement, the bands added five more dates that expanded Sessanta into the Southeast, and now they're bring it up to the North. Today (October 31st), the bands have added eight more stops to the spring 2024 trek that include shows in New York, Boston and Chicago. 

Sessanta will now be commencing on April 2nd for a two-night residency at Boston's Boch Center, and instead of wrapping up at Red Rocks in Colorado on April 26th, it will journey out East for a few more dates before the grand finale in Forest Hills, NY, on May 4th.
