Maxima looks smart in this trouser suit. I like the colour. On video clips of the plane's arrival, it looks like the King was a co-pilot once again, as he enjoys to be when flying this private jet. - Anon 9:13

This is the official Dutch government plane, not a private yet. And the King also flies as a co-pilot on commercial KLM-flights to maintain his pilot license.

As an official Dutch Government plane, it is a private jet as compared to a commercial airliner, which is what I knew and meant. The public cannot buy tickets to fly on this plane, so it is private in that respect. - Anon 9:13

Queen Maxima  and  King Willem-Alexander  of the Netherlands are heading to the states later this year. The Dutch Royal House announced on Friday, April 29, that the royal couple will pay an economic working visit to California and Texas.

The visit will take place from Sept. 6 to Sept. 9. The Dutch King and Queen are scheduled to travel to San Francisco and Silicon Valley in California, and Austin and Houston in Texas.

Queen Maxima and King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands will visit the US in September 2022

“The working visit underlines the excellent economic relations between the Netherlands and California and Texas. During the visit, transatlantic cooperation, climate change, energy transition and health care will be central,” according to the Royal House.

The Dutch Queen recently traveled to the US. Last month, Maxima visited Washington, D.C. and New York in her role as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA).

Maxima and Willem-Alexander, who ascended the Dutch throne in 2013, made their first visit to the US as King and Queen of the Netherlands back in 2015 .

Dutch Queen Begins 3-Day US Tour in San Francisco

Tuesday's visit by dutch queen máxima is the first official royal visit to san francisco since 2005, by sergio quintana • published september 6, 2022 • updated on september 6, 2022 at 10:20 pm.

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands visited the Bay Area on Tuesday as part of a three-day tour of the United States.

San Francisco was the first stop, with City Hall rolling out a red carpet welcome for the queen.

During a discussion at Salesforce Tower, panelists highlighted the goals and challenges California and Holland share.

"So many of our conversations stem from our lack of housing," San Francisco Mayor London Breed said. "I know that the Netherlands faces these same challenges especially in its largest city, Amsterdam.

Climate change, trade, and security are all themes of the queen's three-day visit -- inclusion is another.

Queen Máxima also toured San Francisco's Castro neighborhood, visiting the LGBT Historical Society Museum.

For Holland natives living in San Francisco, this was a rare up-close encounter with the queen.

"I have never ever seen her," San Francisco resident Ingrid Buscher said. "In Europe, whenever there's a royal visit, the queues, the lines are six or eight rows deep."

The queen also met with HIV advocates and trans community leaders inside the Twin Peaks Lounge.

"The Netherlands and San Francisco share so many things in common," Queen Máxima said. "But the support for the LGBT community, it is something that we feel so strongly about."

The Netherlands was the first country in the world to recognize same-sex marriage in 2001, so having the queen in the Castro is significant.

"I think it's a big deal," San Francisco Supervisor Rafael Mandelman said. "I think it shows the big role that the Netherlands has played around LGBTQ equality, and clearly the importance of the Castro around the queer civil rights movement and queer culture."

Tuesday's visit by Dutch Queen Máxima is the first official royal visit to San Francisco since 2005, when Prince Charles of the United Kingdom visited the city.

Queen Máxima was supposed to accompany Dutch King Willem-Alexander on this trip, but he could not travel because has pneumonia. The queen's tour of the United States continues with a visit to Berkeley and Stanford on Wednesday, and will conclude with a visit to Austin, Texas.

Queen Máxima’s American visit begins in San Francisco

' src=

Queen Máxima’s economic visit to the United States began on the west coast in San Francisco with a focus on LGBTQ+ rights and a message for King Willem-Alexander back home.

Queen Máxima began her American visit in San Francisco, meeting with Mayor London Breed before visiting the Castro District, a notable LGBTQ+ community in California.

Mayor Breed tweeted about the royal visit: “Today, San Francisco opened its arms to welcome Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. We were honoured to host her at City Hall and in the Castro, and to hold discussions on our shared values and to strengthen economic ties.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Koninklijk Huis (@koninklijkhuis)

In the Castro District, Queen Máxima visited the GLBT Historical Society Museum and spoke with community leaders about gay rights before doing a walkabout and meeting with drag performers and other community members.

Speaking of her visit to the Castro District in a speech at City Hall, Queen Máxima said: “I was struck by the atmosphere of openness, freedom and creativity. This positive vibe can be felt across California. It’s one of the reasons I am so happy to be here, together with a large delegation of Dutch business leaders, entrepreneurs and government representatives.”

In a speech on Tuesday evening, Queen Máxima said that the ties between California and the Netherlands mean that visiting there feels“like home ” and added that both places have “a great affinity with each other, based on similar values when it comes to human rights, diversity, inclusion and equitable development.”

During a visit to the Salesforce Tower, Queen Máxima signed a cooperative declaration to commit to the Netherlands and California working together on climate and circular economy tasks. She said in a speech: “We Dutch are happy that we can speed up our cooperation in the transition towards a circular economy. During my visit to California, we are also celebrating our joint projects in the areas of climate adaptation, smart mobility and sustainable agriculture.

“The Dutch are excited to be teaming up with the best, and California has a lot of the best. Your start-up ecosystem is the number one ecosystem in the world. Dutch companies and institutions have a lot to offer as well. Our connections are growing stronger every year, to our mutual benefit.”

Queen Máxima’s other engagements on the first day of her American visit included a mission from sectors involved in life sciences, health, urban mobility and cycling; a seminar on ‘digital health’; and meetings with American CEOs to discuss the economic ties and shared challenges between both countries.

The Dutch Queen’s visit continues this week with engagements in San Francisco and Silicon Valley on Wednesday; Austin, Texas, on Thursday; and Houston, Texas, on Friday.

King Willem-Alexander initially planned to take part in this economic visit alongside Queen Máxima; however, the Royal House of the Netherlands announced last week that he would have to miss the visit as he is recovering from pneumonia.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — The king and queen of the Netherlands on Tuesday received a red-carpet welcome from Savannah’s mayor, chatted with crane operators on the dock of one of America’s busiest seaports and danced onstage with students from Georgia’s oldest historically Black college.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima spent the second day of their U.S. tour in Georgia’s founding city, a tourism magnet for its wealth of historic architecture and a growing powerhouse in global trade.

The Dutch royals stepped from their motorcade Tuesday morning and onto a red carpet that had been rolled across the sidewalk outside Savannah’s gold-domed City Hall, where Mayor Van Johnson greeted them.

“We are so honored today to have his majesty the king and her majesty the queen here in our beautiful city,” Johnson said to kick off a roundtable discussion between city staff and Dutch dignitaries. “Today is a day for us that creates and speaks of opportunities — opportunities that we can explore and opportunities that we can expand.”

The Dutch royals’ trip to Georgia has featured a mixture of stops at cultural sites and meetings focused on strengthening economic ties.

In Savannah, the king and queen took a stroll beneath majestic live oaks draped with Spanish moss in the prized historic district of the city founded by British colonists in 1733. At Savannah State University, Georgia’s oldest historically Black public college, the royal couple climbed onstage with students and danced during a marching band performance.

Afterward, they toured the Port of Savannah, the fourth-busiest U.S. seaport for cargo shipped in containers. The giant metal boxes are used to transport goods ranging from consumer electronics to frozen chickens. Savannah handled 4.9 million container units in 2023, more than any U.S. port other than New York, Los Angeles and Long Beach, California.

The king and queen chatted with crane operators on the dock as containers were being loaded onto a mammoth cargo ship behind them. Then they sat in a shaded tent for a recap of discussions held earlier in the day between Georgia and Dutch representatives on ways to make seaports more efficient and environmentally sustainable.

Total trade between Georgia and the Netherlands was $2.9 billion last year, according to the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

Georgia sent $1.8 billion in exports, including medical instruments and automatic data processing machines, to the Netherlands in 2023. The state imported $1.2 billion in goods from the Netherlands, including aircraft parts and malt beer.

The Dutch royals’ four-day U.S. trip began Monday in Atlanta, where the king and queen met with Gov. Brian Kemp at Georgia’s state Capitol, toured the burial site of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and visited a recording studio in a city known for hip-hop artists.

The king and queen were scheduled to spend Wednesday and Thursday in New York to wrap up their U.S. tour.

Dutch tourists, the Cremer's were on vacation in Savannah when they found out their very own monarchy was in town.

“We are really excited because we've never seen them in real life in the Netherlands and now we are across the world and we heard that they would be here and we're really excited to see them in real life for the first time." said Ms. Cremer.

The tour taking them first to Atlanta, where they met with Governor Brian Kemp, then to Savannah.

In Savannah, the tour of the port was an important stop to continue to build transatlantic trade partnerships.

Tom Boyd at the Georgia Ports says the Ports welcomes those partnerships.

“We are excited about the journey ahead with you and energized by your visit.” said Boyd

The Netherlands currently has 1.7 billion dollars in investments in Georgia.

For Dutch tourists like the Cremers it encourages them for the direction their country is taking.

The Dutch palace announced Wednesday that King Willem-Alexander won't be able to make the trip to the United States next week as he recovers from an illness.

"His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will not participate in the working visit to California and Texas from 6 to 9 September 2022," the palace said in a statement. "This decision has been made on doctors' advice. The King is recovering from pneumonia, and air travel at this time could impede a full recovery."

Queen Máxima, 51, will still make the trip without her husband, visiting San Francisco and Silicon Valley in California and Austin and House in Texas.

The royal couple's trip to the U.S. was originally announced in April.

"The working visit will serve to highlight the Kingdom's excellent economic relations with California and Texas," the palace said in a statement . "There will be a central focus on a range of themes, including transatlantic cooperation, climate change, the energy transition and healthcare."

ATLANTA - Atlanta is hosting some special royal visitors this week.

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands began a four-day visit to the United States in Georgia on Monday.

The royal couple and Dutch CEOs were welcomed by Gov. Brian Kemp at the Georgia Capitol before going on a whirlwind tour throughout the city.

They started with a visit to the King Center where Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s daughter, Bernice King , greeted them. The royal couple laid a wreath at the grave of King and his wife, Coretta Scott King . Civil rights leader and former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young also attended the event.

Willem-Alexander called the visit "deeply moving" for the couple and said the "drive for emancipation among people of color" was a story of "pain and anger, but also one of pride, solidarity and the steadfast belief in peace and reconciliation."

"In the Netherlands, too, the fight against discrimination and racism continues to command our full attention," he said, reading from prepared remarks. "Martin Luther King inspires us never to give up. His voice continues to resonate even across the Atlantic."

Then, they met with Black students at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church where they learned about the church’s role in the civil rights movement and the fight for racial justice. On Tuesday, they are scheduled to visit Savannah State University, the oldest public historically Black college or university in Georgia.

After that, the king and queen took a tour of the Atlanta BeltLine with Mayor Andre Dickens to discuss affordable housing.

You can't visit Atlanta without taking in a bit of the city's cultural legacy, so the couple visited Patchwerk Recording Studios, a famous Atlanta studio where artists such as OutKast, 2Pac, Beyoncé and Madonna have recorded albums.

The couple is scheduled to visit the Atlanta headquarters of NewCold, a Dutch cold-storage warehouse company, followed by a trip to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to discuss efforts to combat malaria.

To end their visit, the couple will visit the High Museum for a guided tour of the exhibition "Dutch Art in the Global Age" with a reception to follow.

Atlanta's not the only Georgia stop on their U.S. trip. The royal couple will also visit Savannah before heading to New York.

The royal held a two-tone beige clutch bag for the outing, rounding off the look with a selection of silver jewels, including a pair of sparkling statement earrings.

Queen Máxima visits Washington DC and New York

News item | 21-03-2022 | 11:33

From Tuesday 22 March to Thursday 24 March, Her Majesty Queen Máxima will be visiting Washington DC and New York in her capacity as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA). Financial health and the contribution of (digital) financial inclusion to economic recovery in the wake of the COVID‑19 pandemic are among the most important topics she will be discussing.

On Wednesday 23 March, Queen Máxima is set to meet with US Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen. They will discuss the importance of being able to measure financial health when it comes to government and supervisory policies. In 2020, Queen Máxima launched the Financial Health Working Group, which defines financial health as the extent to which a person or family can meet their short-term financial obligations and needs, has the resilience to absorb financial shocks, is on track to reach their financial goals (e.g. saving for education) and feels secure in their financial future. Queen Máxima and Secretary Yellen previously met briefly at the G20 summit in Rome .

While in Washington Queen Máxima will also meet with representatives of international development organisations with whom she works in her capacity as UNSGSA. This includes the heads of the International Monetary Fund and the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor, and the Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships at the World Bank. She also has a meeting with the Acting Comptroller of the Currency. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is an independent bureau of the Treasury Department that supervises all national banks.

On Thursday 24 March, Queen Máxima will be in New York to meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres regarding the UNSGSA’s vital work, to which the coronavirus crisis has added an extra dimension. She will also meet with the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and representatives of the three co-chairs of the Group of Friends of Financial Inclusion, Indonesia, Peru and Tanzania. Queen Máxima will also participate in a round table on financial health in private sector financial services, organised by the Financial Health Network, which is part of the Financial Health Working Group.

Sparkling Royal Jewels From Around the World

Queen Maxima Sparkles During the Qatari Visit to the Netherlands

06.27.2024 by thecourtjeweller // Leave a Comment

The King and Queen of the Netherlands welcome the Emir of Qatar and Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad Al Thani to the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague on June 24, 2024 (DPA Picture Alliance/Alamy)

We’ve been laser-focused here lately on the jewels of Royal June in Britain, but in the meantime, the other monarchies of the world have been soldiering on with their usual engagements as well. Let’s play a little catch-up, starting today with jewels worn in the Netherlands for a visit from the Emir of Qatar.

The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, arrived in The Hague on Monday for a diplomatic visit with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands. The Emir was joined by his first wife, Sheikha Jawaher, for the visit.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima received the Qatari royal couple at the Noordeinde Palace, which has been the official workplace of the Dutch monarch in The Hague since the 1980s.

Queen Maxima and Sheikha Jawaher both wore elegant formal daywear for the luncheon meeting. Maxima opted for a silk blouse and skirt in a bright shade of sky blue. ModeKoninginMaxima tells us that the ensemble comes from Natan.

Sheikha Jawaher opted for an elegant cream jacket and a coordinating skirt for the diplomatic visit. The ladies of the Qatari royal family are great fans of couture fashion, and Grazia has confirmed that this ensemble comes from Dior.

With her Dior jacket and skirt, Sheikha Jawaher wore a fabulous pair of earrings set with white and yellow gems. I wouldn’t be surprised if these were all-diamond jewels.

She also wore a bangle bracelet on her left wrist and impressive diamond rings on both hands.

Queen Maxima reached for familiar jewelry pieces, wearing the necklace and earrings from her demi-parure of jewels set with moonstones, diamonds, and bright blue gems.

She has had the jewels in her collection for more than a decade. We first saw her wear them back in 2013, and she’s made several more appearances in the suite over the years. Back in December, she wore the jewels with this Natan outfit for a concert.

She’s also paired the jewels with this blue evening dress on more than one occasion, wearing the combination for a charity gala in 2017 and a diplomatic dinner in 2019.

Maxima finished off the look with a few more jewels, wearing her diamond wedding bracelet on her right wrist and, I believe, her diamond and tanzanite ring on her right hand. She also wore a small miniature ribbon button on her blouse, which is usually from the country who is visiting. I haven’t found confirmation that Maxima has received a Qatari order, but perhaps this is a miniature of their Order of Independence? King Willem-Alexander is wearing a miniature ribbon button on his jacket as well.

Queen Maxima

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands is widely known for her vibrant, whimsical style. The Dutch royal often fashions looks by Belgian brand Natan, takes inspiration from florals and accessorizes with fanciful hats . Her extensive tiara collection, however, is one element of Queen Maxima’s royal wardrobe that often goes overlooked.

Here, see a selection of the tiaras from Queen Maxima’s collection.

The Ruby Peacock tiara might also be one of Queen Maxima’s most extravagant pieces. The tiara features a removable piece at the center, which resembles a peacock’s tail. Queen Maxima opted to wear the tiara with a monochrome look in November 2018 during a state banquet at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam. She coordinated her tiara with her ruby dress and a diamond and ruby brooch.

The Tiara From the Dutch Emerald Parure

Queen Maxima has never been averse to playing with color within her royal wardrobe selection. The Dutch royal perfectly matched her ensemble for a dinner at the Loo Royal Palace in June 2014 to the Tiara From the Dutch Emerald Parure, for which she fashioned a green dress and coordinated earrings and necklace. This tiara features a versatile element with removable pieces.

The Dutch Aquamarine Parure Tiara

Along with rubies, emeralds and diamonds, Queen Maxima’s tiara collection also includes the Dutch Aquamarine Parure Tiara. Created in a type of art-deco design, the tiara features diamond baguettes and aquamarine briolettes. Queen Maxima wore the tiara with coordinated earrings and necklace to the Grand Duke of Luxemburg’s state visit in April 2006.
