Ad audio described performance.

Audio description is a live commentary interspersed with the actors' dialogue. This is relayed via a headset linked to the infra-red audio system. There is a short 'programme notes' session, before the production, which explains the atmosphere, costumes, characters and action.

BSL British Sign Language Performance

Signed performances are ideal for those who use sign language. Trained British Signed Language (BSL) signers usually stand to one side of the stage and interpret the script used by the performers at the same time as it is being performed.

R Relaxed Screening/Performance

Open to everyone, but particularly appropriate for anyone who may find the usual theatre/cinema environment challenging, due to an Autism Spectrum Condition, a learning disability, or a fear of the dark, loud noises or confined spaces.

Relaxed Performances/Screenings provide a relaxed environment, where elements are adapted to reduce anxiety or stress. Lighting and sound levels are adjusted to soften their impact and there is a relaxed attitude to noise and leaving and re-entering the auditorium during the performance/screening.

Designated 'chill-out' areas are provided outside the auditorium with activities for people to use if being in the auditorium becomes overwhelming for them.

T Touch Tour

A Touch Tour is ideal for blind and partially-sighted audiences to familiarise themselves with the set ahead of the performance.

C Captioned Screening/Performance

Captions display dialogue on-screen (similar to subtitles) and also describe the audio or sound portion of a film/performance allowing audience members who are D/deaf or hard of hearing to follow the script and the action of the film/performance at the same time.

For live performances, the screen is positioned at the side of the stage.

Evita charts the young and ambitious Eva Peron’s meteoric rise to sainthood. Set in Argentina between 1934-1952, the Tony-winning musical follows Eva Duarte on her journey from poor illegitimate child to ambitious actress to, as wife of military leader-turned-president Juan Peron, the most powerful woman in Latin America, before her death from cancer at age 33.

Evita’s memorable “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” was recorded and released in 1976 followed by the complete rock opera concept album, which went gold. The stage production opened on June 21, 1978 at the Prince Edward Theatre in London with Elaine Paige in the title role and Joss Ackland as her formidable Juan Perón.

Following stints in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Evita premiered on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre on 25th September 1979. Evita won an impressive seven 1980 Tony Awards including Best Book, Best Score and Best Musical of the year. In 1981, the Evita cast recording was awarded a Grammy Award.

Productions of Evita have been performed all over the world, including performances in Austria, Spain, Mexico and South Africa. A major 1996 film adaptation starred Madonna in the title role and Antonio Banderas as Che. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards, winning one for Best Original Song (“You Must Love Me”).

A revival of the show opened at London’s Adelphi Theatre in 2006, with Argentinean actress Elena Roger as Eva. The production ran until May 2007 and was nominated for a number of awards, including a nomination for Elena Roger as Best Actress In A Musical at the 2006 Olivier Awards. The production transferred to Broadway at the Marquis Theatre in 2012 with Elena Roger reprising her role and Ricky Martin as Che.

Bill Kenwright brings all-new Evita to the Liverpool Empire

BILL Kenwright has chosen Liverpool to kick off a new UK tour of the musical masterpiece Evita.

  • 18:00, 21 JAN 2008
  • Updated 01:32, 9 MAY 2013

evita musical tour 2024 uk

The show is the Liverpool impresario’s latest contribution to Capital of Culture year.

It will be built and produced at the Empire theatre in May before being taken on its first nationwide tour for a decade.

Tickets for the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice-penned pop opera went on sale today.

The production is directed by Bill Kenwright and by former Everyman resident director Bob Tomson, who also directed the current Empire production of Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers.

The Empire’s general manager, Hannah Collins, said: “To have a brand new tour of such an epic show produced and built at the Empire really is a privilege.

“Being the first venue in a major UK tour is always exciting.

“Evita is a superb production and another welcome addition to Bill Kenwright's outstanding contribution to our 2008 programme.”

Evita features some of the most famous and inspiring stage music ever written, including the classic songs Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, On This Night of a Thousand Stars and Buenos Aires.

It brings to life the dynamic, larger-than-life persona of Eva Peron, wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron.

Beginning with the young, ambitious actress and singer Maria Eva Duarte, the production follows her rise to fame and power – telling the story of the enormous wealth and power she gained, and the means by which she became the beloved Evita.

No details of who will play the central character or other cast members have yet been revealed.

Evita will run from May 22 to June 7.

Worldwide web interest in Capital of Culture year

WORLDWIDE interest in Liverpool as a visitor destination has been generated by the launch of the city's Capital of Culture year.

The Mersey Partnership says unique visitors to its visitliverpool.com website increased by 138% between January 10 and 11 as international attention focused on the city's official launch events for 2008.

Compared with traffic on the site on the same date last year, 2008 saw an increase of 283% in the number of visitors.

Visitors to the site viewed a total of more than one million pages during the 24 hours of the Friday launch day - the highest daily total in the site's history.

TMP's monitoring of worldwide media interest in the destination last weekend also shows Liverpool has featured in countries far and wide.

Between January 10-15, almost 1,200 individual items of coverage (1,194) were recorded from countries as far apart as Antigua and China.

TMP’s 2008 visitor guide can be downloaded via www.vistliverpool.com

Auli’i Cravalho as Evita

Matt rawle as che.

About Auli’i Cravalho

Cravalho first captured our hearts as the title role of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ worldwide hit film MOANA , opposite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson , with music by Lin Manuel-Miranda . She performed the Oscar-nominated song “ How Far I’ll Go ” live at the Academy Awards in 2017.

She quickly and seamlessly transitioned from voice-over to on-camera roles, starring alongside Josh Radnor and Rosie Perez in the Jason Katims series RISE for NBC, and in ABC’s live production of THE LITTLE MERMAID as Ariel. Brett Haley directed her as the lead of his Netflix film ALL TOGETHER NOW , with Carol Burnett, Fred Armisen , and Justina Machado.  She can also be seen starring in Hulu’s queer teen romcom CRUSH , directed by Sammi Cohen , which was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award.  Most recently, Auli’i starred in the 20th Century Studios film DARBY AND THE DEAD , now streaming on Hulu.

She can currently be seen in the Amazon series THE POWER , based on the Naomi Alderman novel of the same name. She stars as Jos Cleary-Lopez, opposite John Leguizamo and Toni Collette . Cravalho voices the title character, Hailey, a risk-averse but resourceful teenager, in Disney Branded Television’s “ Hailey’s On It! “. Emma Hatton stars as Eva Perón in Bill Kenwright’s acclaimed production of the legendary musical, Evita. Following the true story of Eva Perón, wife of former dictator Juan Perón, the show charts her rise from humble beginnings to becoming a revered ‘spiritual leader of the nation’. A multi-award winning musical, Evita features a classic score, with show-stoppers such as “You Must Love Me”, “Another Suitcase in Another Hall” and “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”. Playing at the Phoenix Theatre for a limited 12 week season, don’t miss out on the theatrical event of the summer!

Wonderful… Especially Eva and Che! Great performance. Unforgettable! Loved it.

I was fortunate enough to see the original Evita and was pleased when my daughter bought tickets to see the performance last Saturday evening. She had grown up listening to th album so knew all the songs. I loved it just as much second time round. You can’t fail to be swept up with the dancing and the music. The songs are magical. Have been playing them all week. It is also a haunting story for those who don’t know it. What really put the icing on the cake was that we decided to go in to the Chipotle restaurant, next to the Phoenix theatre, for a late supper (very tasty) and my daughter suddenly looked animated and said ‘look to right’. Isn’t that Che. I looked and she was right. He had come in straight after the show to get something to eat. We let him finish his meal (well most of it) and as we were going past him on the way out we decided to tell him how much we had enjoyed the show. What a lovely unaffected man. So genuine and very happy to talk to us. Perfect fit to play Che with his Latin good looks. I would have joined his revolution any day! I hope the show does another world tour. One of Lloyd Webber’s best musicals in my opinion.

A wonderful and much enjoyed performance – I first saw Evita back in June 1978 and subsequently was lucky to see other productions of Evita including one in New York. But this one is the best by far – both in terms of the cast and presentation.

I have seen countless shows but this blew me away BRAVO such talent and not forgetting the musicians BRAVO to them too.

I have seen other productions of Evita and was never overly impressed, THIS production blew me away. I was laughing, I was in tears (and all for the right reasons!) and I was completely in awe of Emma Hatton (Eva) – she was absolutely captivating throughout. Gian Schiaretti was also terrific – great vocals and captured the perfect sarcasm and pessimism of Che. It is a great production, great story telling and also a good history lesson for those that don’t know of Argentina in that era. I hope to see again before the end of the run.

Have seen this show when it was on tour, the cast are brilliant, there are some great voices on that stage, grab a ticket you won’t be disappointed.

An absolute must see. A wonderful performance this evening from the entire cast. Special mentions to the Eva & Che. I’ve waited so many years to see this show and it did not disappoint. Congratulations to you all Acknowledgements must continue to go to Tim Rice for his incredible lyrics and devotion to bringing this story to life for the world.

Loved Evita last night. I’m a great fan of Emma Hatton after seeing her in Wicked. She didn’t disappoint and gave a superb performance as Eva Peron. Che was played by Gian Marco Schiaretti, he was the narrator and the glue that holds it together. He has an amazing singing voice. The whole cast were superb and the solo performance from a very young girl was heart melting, a star for the future. Well worth a visit.

Following the success of Little Shop of Horrors last spring, Buxton Opera House are excited to showcase the amazing talent of local performers in its production of Evita , directed by Paul Kerryson.

The musical follows the story of the young and ambitious Eva Perón’s meteoric rise to sainthood. Set in Argentina between 1934-1952, Eva Duarte’s journey moves from poor illegitimate child to ambitious actress to, as wife of military leader-turned-president Juan Perón, the most powerful woman in Latin America. How will Eva Perón deal with this rise to power?

With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice (the creative geniuses behind Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar ), the musical has become a firm favourite within the musical community.

The 7-Tony Award winning musical features songs Requiem for Evita, A New Argentina and notably the ballad of Eva Perón Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.

For the BSL interpreted performance, the interpreter will be positioned on the left hand side of the stage. For the best view of the Interpreter, Stalls seating towards the front, left hand side of the auditorium (facing the stage) is recommended.

News of the upcoming UK and European tour comes in the run-up to The Story So Far releasing their new LP ‘I Want To Disappear’.

Set to arrive on June 21 via Pure Noise, it’ll mark the fifth studio album from the band, and features previously-released singles ‘Big Blind’ and ‘Letterman’ alongside seven brand new tracks.

Most recently, Parker Cannon and Co. shared the latest single from the project, ‘All This Time’ – a track which brings together the same catchy guitar riffs and immense drum fills that the group have become famed for over the years.

You can pre-order the album here , and find the full tracklist below.

The ‘I Want To Disappear’ tracklist is:

1. ‘All This Time’ 2. ‘Watch You Go’ 3. ‘Letterman’ 4. ‘Jump The Gun’ 5. ‘Big Blind’ 6. ‘Nothing To Say’ 7. ‘Keep You Around’ 8. ‘You’re Still in My Way’ 9. ‘White Shores’ 10. ‘I Want To Disappear’

“We kind of grew out of our 20s between this record and last” said Torf of the inspiration behind the album. “Like a lot of people, you go through so many different things in life and you’re faced with new challenges. As a band, when you go through hardships you realise that some things are more important than music.

“These can and do take priority over playing, and that can feel divisive. It’s sometimes necessary though, to get to where you want to go.”

Geyer continued: “We were waiting for all the stars to align for our individual situations so that this record could be the priority, and that we had the time and space to make it happen in the way that we wanted to. We went through a lot as people, and as a band, to discover what was working about it, and we leaned into that.”

Before the aforementioned UK and European tour, The Story So Far will be joining A Day To Remember on their summer jaunt, along with Four Year Strong , Militarie Gun , Pain Of Truth, and Scowl . Visit here for remaining tickets to US shows.
