1. Discover Agdz Oasis and Morocco’s majestic kasbahs

70 km south of Ouarzazate, Agdz marks the starting point of the most beautiful part of the Drâa valley. Built at the foot of Jebel Kissane, culminating at 1600 meters, the city dominates the wadi and its immense palm grove. The ocher mountain and the date palms immediately immerse you in the local colors. The historic district of Aslim is home to magnificent mud kasbahs. Jewels of Berber architecture, the kasbahs are the former places of residence of the caïds, the chiefs of local tribes. Built in the 18th century, the Kasbah Caïd Ali is part of the national heritage of Morocco.

The descendants of the Caïd offer tours to learn all about the architecture and history of the place. Next door, the Kasbah des Arts has been converted into a guest house. 2. Visit of the Tizgui Waterfall in Southern Morocco

If the heat makes you want to take a dip, don't miss this lovely waterfall nestled in a narrow canyon. A dozen kilometers from Agdz in the direction of Ouarzazate, a road branches off to the right and crosses a mineral and arid landscape. After 30 minutes, you arrive in this little heavenly setting. You will bathe in a pretty pool surrounded by oleanders, in the shade of the immense rock walls. Usually, on Sunday you will find young boys and girls having fun and playing music.

3. The old ksar of Tamnougalt

6 km from Agdz, the ksar of Tamnougalt rises above a carpet of green palm trees. The historical capital of the Berber tribe of Mezquita, Tamnougalte has occupied a strategic position along the Drâa river. Built in the 16th century, its fortified mud village is one of the oldest and best-preserved in the valley.

Stroll through the maze of alleys and admire the finesse of the traditional Amazigh architecture, then visit the old Casbah of the Caïd. Inhabited until the 1960s, it has been converted into a museum. In front of the ksar, you will see another casbah perched on a rocky promontory. It is abandoned but offers a breathtaking view of the surroundings.

This magical setting hosted the shooting of several films, including Babel by Alejandro González Iñárritu and Un thé au Sahara by Bernardo Bertolucci.

4. The rock site of Foum Chenna

54 km south of Tamnougalt, you arrive at the village of Tinzouline. About seven kilometers to the west, the Foum Chenna site is home to one of the largest concentrations of rock carvings in the Moyen-Drâa valley. Over a length of about 800 meters, a vertical rock face is covered with more than 2,500 figures.

You will see hundreds of Libyco-Berber horsemen armed with a round shield or a lance, participating in war scenes or hunting antelopes, gazelles, and oryx. Other engravings represent felines, dromedaries, and ostriches.

The importance of this site is also explained by the presence of 88 inscriptions in the Libyan alphabet, from which the modern Berber languages originate. This makes it the most important rock library in Morocco.

The rock engravings of Foum Chenna, are artistic representations made by people from cultural communities who no longer exist. On-site, be careful not to touch the walls. These engravings are fragile.

5. Visit Zagora

Its legendary sign indicating "Timbuktu 52 days" recalls that Zagora was once a stopover on the caravan route loaded with salt and gold from Timbuktu. Today, it is the administrative center of the Drâa valley. Indeed, Zagora is a common pitstop on the way to the Sahara Desert. It is the last big town you’ll hit on your way to Erg Chigaga, one of the two major dunes in the Moroccan desert.

Although most travelers won’t spend more than a night in the Zagora oasis, it’s a destination in its own right! With few signs of modernization, it’s a great place to experience traditional Moroccan life. The ideal is to spend Wednesday or Sunday to attend its abundant souk - Biggest Souk in the South - The peasants and the nomads come from far to offer their goods: wheat, fruits, vegetables, cattle, and especially the succulent dates of the region. You will also find a large selection of crafts.

For an original visit to Zagora, treat yourself to a mountain bike excursion to uncover the secret paths of the palm grove and the most beautiful viewpoints in the area.

6. Explore the ksar of Amezrou

2 km away from Zagora, the ksar of Amezrou is a beautiful fortified village dating from the 18th century. Admire its mosque with its tall mud minaret and visit its old synagogue.

The ksar hosted a large Jewish community specializing in crafts. In the old Mellah remains ancestral know-how of jewelry.

You can visit the craftsmen's workshops and why not, treat yourself to one of these silver or bronze jewels decorated with geometric or floral motifs.

7. Explore Tamegroute, the temple of manuscripts and pottery

About twenty kilometers from Zagora, this village is renowned for its unique pottery with elegant shades of green. This characteristic color is obtained thanks to an alloy of manganese and copper oxide.

At the main square of Tamegroute, you find at least seven ovens. Seven ovens belonging to seven pottery families who perpetuate this ancestral technique. Each family has an oven and their own atelier, built of clay. You cannot miss them, as they exhibit their pieces in stores on the side of the road: Vases, bowls, trays, there is something for everyone. Even if you don't buy, go visit the workshops to learn about the manufacturing steps.

Tamegroute is also essential for its Koranic library founded in the 17th century. With 4000 manuscripts, the oldest of which is nearly 1000 years old, it is one of the most famous libraries in Morocco. His works on astrology, medicine, history, or poetry still attract students.

To visit the Koranic library, someone welcomes you and explains the history of the library. Leave a few dirhams as a tip. It is open every day except at lunchtime.

Beyond Tamegroute, the road goes away from the valley to pass a stretch of the river, but it reaches back in the oasis of Ktaoua, which was another of the great historic commercial centers such as the Tafilalet when caravans linked Morocco to sub-Saharan Africa.

8. Visit the dunes of Tinfou

They seem to have landed there as if by magic. The surprising dunes of Tinfou emerge alone in the middle of a plateau surrounded by mountains. If you fancy a taste of the desert and can't make it to the desert proper, Tinfou is the next best thing. With ridges culminating at 120 meters, these dunes will offer you your first Saharan sensations. The ideal is to come at the end of the day when the sand takes on a soft orange hue to climb and run down the big dunes.

You can also go for a camel ride, a touristy atmosphere, but if you've never been on these famous endless Moroccan Sahara deserts, this is your chance to try!

9. The gateway to the Sahara desert

From M'hamid El Ghizlane, the last village before the vast expanses of the Sahara, the Drâa wadi disappears into the arid expanses, and the last palm trees sink into the sand dunes. Several directions are available to you: 12 km from M'hamid El Ghizlane, You find Erg Lihoudi, a small dune complex with beautiful bivouacs to spend the night in the desert. However, If you dream of wide-open spaces, the best is to go as far as Erg Chigaga , the largest and still untouched of the major ergs in Morocco and our top desert destination in Morocco.

The Atlantic and Draa Valley and Camel Trekking Tour: 4 Days / 3 Nights from Agadir to Marrakech is a captivating and immersive travel experience that takes you on a memorable journey through the contrasting landscapes of Morocco. This tour provides a carefully curated itinerary spanning four days and three nights, starting in the coastal city of Agadir and concluding in the vibrant city of Marrakech.

AGADIR –TAROUDANT - TAZNAKHT– KSAR AIT BEN HADDOU - OUARZAZATE

Agadir to Ouarzazate departs at 8 AM, traveling via Taliouine, Taznakht, and Taroudant, dubbed "the little Marrakesh." The road continues on to the most well-known Kasbah in Morocco, the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, which is also one of the country's eight UNESCO World Heritage sites. There is time to explore the Kasbah and ascend to the top for a view after lunch in the village. There will be an afternoon excursion to the Atlas Film Studios. The sets from several Hollywood blockbusters, including Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Asterix and Obelix, and Game of Thrones, are still largely intact. The little village of Ouarzazate, where you spend the night in a traditional riad, is just a few kilometers away.

OUARZAZATE – DRAA VALLEY – KNOB– RISSANI – MERZOUGA

Following breakfast, there will be a tour of the Kasbah itself before traveling to Tansikht, where you will turn east and then south to reach Merzouga. We pause for lunch in a riad with a mountain view in N'Qob. Afterwards, we go via the "Babel"-featured town of Tazzarine before arriving at the Merzouga bivouac, where you will be welcomed with a glass of tea. We'll take a camel ride to the top of the dunes to watch the sunset after you've had a chance to settle in. At the base of the dunes, there is a nomad tent where guests spend the night after dinner.

MERZOUGA – ERFOUD- TOUDGHA GORGE – DADES CANYON

If you get up early, you can witness the amazing sight of the sunrise, when the dunes' colors and the way the shadows move create a display. You can take a stroll in the dunes after breakfast before heading to the Toudgha gorges for lunch. The Toudgha Valley and Tinjdad are traversed by the road. There are several places to walk about here, including up the road on the other side of the gorges and along the river through the gardens. Subsequently, the program proceeds to spend the night inside the large Dades Canyon in the Dades Valley and Dades Gorges (Guest House).

DADES GORGE - SKOURA – OUARZAZATE - MARRAKECH

We're going to go for a morning stroll down the gorge, following the Dades Valley as it passes through El Kelaa Magona and the Skoura oasis. The Ouarzazate route, which is both a World Heritage site and the setting for numerous Hollywood blockbusters. Tizi-n-Tichka, the highest pass in Africa, was ruled from this location. Zagora and Draa Valley

Zagora & Draa Valley day tour is one of the best day tours out of Ouarzazate. The pick up is from your hotel in Ouarzazate towards Agdez, the administrative village after we cross the Anti Atlas mountains and Tizi n’Tinifift pass. The Draa Valley palmary starts here and extends to more than 190 km, the ancient texts say that crocodiles were swimming in it. Along the valley, we see many villages on both banks where locals practice agriculture as their main activity for a living, gathering dates from August to October is popular here. The famous kasbah of Draa Valley is Tamnougalt located on the left bank of the river. Zagora is an administrative center famous for its panel “Tombouctou 52 days”. It was the cradle of the Saadian dynasty that ruled Morocco during the sixteenth century. 18 km far from Zagora, an old village called Tamgrout. Tamegroute is an old religious center; a library of the most precious manuscripts (Closed on Saturdays’)  and green pottery factories. 7 km further to achieve the first sand dunes called Tinfou where you can ride a camel or just walk over the hill. Lunch will be in Zagora then return to Ouarzazate by the afternoon.

FYI: Zagora & Draa Valley Day tour is in the only Morocco day trip that will make you taste and feel the desert in a day. So if you are visiting Morocco for a short amount of days, think about taking a domestic flight to either Ouarzazate to contact us for a day trip or straight to Zagora to be even closer to the bigger dunes, daily late evening flights with Royal Air Maroc are available few times a week for around 45$ each way.

The Draa Valley & Berber Villages, Your Morocco Tour Guide

The Draâ Valley is Morocco’s   longest river. It’s formation is that of the  Dades River and Imini River and flows from the High Atlas Mountains  southeastward to Tagounit and from Tagounit mostly westwards to the Atlantic Ocean somewhat north of Tan-Tan. The water from the Draâ is used to irrigate Palmeraies and small horticulture along the river. The inhabitants of the Draâ are called Drawi, used to refer to the dark skinned people of Draâ that make up the largest portion of its inhabitants.  The Draa Valley originally was known as the Valley of Olives but when the 19 th  Century caravans passed through the date palms arose within the trails they traveled.  The palms proved to be a better choice to continue as a grown commodity because they bare dates, are used to make baskets, leafy carpets and over shade for the inhabitants.

The  Draa Valley is surrounded by and made up of volcanic rock and breathtaking landscapes that lend to traces of the old routes of the caravans. Agdz, referred to as the Door to the Draa Valley and famous for its market of dates and palmeraie is a charming, town with a palmeraie view worth visiting on a Draa Valley one-day tour. From Agdz Moroccan travelers can journey on a seven-kilometer pise in the Draa Valley to discover old Ksars where the Berbers have been living for centuries. This area is known for the Haritine people who are black descendants from the region of Mali.

Located in the heart of the Draa Valley is  Kasbah Tamnougalt .  Kasbah Tamnougalt is an incredible example of a traditional Moroccan Kasbah with its soaring spaces built of red pise (mud), tunnels and interior spaces. Kasbah Tamnougalt also has a large Jewish quarter (mellah)

A visit to the Draa Valley is not complete without experiencing an afternoon or a Moroccan lunch with a Berber family.  Just 5 kilometers after Nkob, another Sahara and Draa Valley town, one can find a famous village called  Ait Ouzzine (the nice village). Ait Ouzzine is nestled within the Middle Atlas Mountains. Aït Ouzzine is a Berber village inhabited by over 300 families who live in beautifully painted crenulated Kasbahs, with their own henna fields, water wells, livestock and gardens. This peaceful village is tucked away along an impressive desert route connecting the Draa Valley (Tansikht) and Rissani. On a Draa Valley tour travelers can meet a Berber family, partake in a cooking lesson of how to make traditional bread and a tajine. This unique experience includes waalking in the green fields and see how the traditional Berbers live with their gardens of herbs, livestock, and henna plants.

For an in-depth experience, Moroccan travelers can have lunch in Ait Ouzzine. An example menu would include a traditional meal of fresh baked bread with spices and a chicken and vegetable tajine and fresh local fruits for desert. Day 1: Airport  –  Riad/Hotel in Marrakesh

Arrival, You will be picked up from the airport and transferred to your Riad to freshen up. The rest of the afternoon / evening will be at your leisure, leaving you the option of exploring the exciting city of Marrakesh.

Dinner will not be included on the first day; you may ask the receptionist for restaurant recommendations, or enjoy a meal in the comfort of your Riad.

Day 2: Marrakech – Tizi-n-tichka mountain pass – Ouarzazate  – Agdez – Zagoura – Lalla Kebira

Transfer from Marrakech (leaving at 8am) over the Tizi-n-tichka mountain pass then down to the south face of the High Atlas into Ouarzazate for lunch. We’ll continue to Agdez from there, and then down the Draa valley passing by several Ksars (fortified villages), some inhabited and some abandoned in ruins. There will be a stop in Zagora, the gateway to the Sahara Desert; your cook will buy provisions here.

Our drive continues towards the Lalla Kebira Dunes (Marabout, St. Kebira), where your campsite is. You’ll be able to take a short walk around the oasis of Lalla Kebira’s small dunes before returning to your camp for the night. The day will have consisted of a total of 71/2 hours driving.

Day 3: Dunes and Oasis de Lalla Kebira – Beni Ali – Oasis Foum Taqqat

After breakfast, and taking up camp, the team will load the camels whilst you start the trek down the Draa valley in the direction of the Beni Ali oasis for lunch in the shade of the date palm trees. After lunch you will carry on to the wild Oasis of Foum beside the mountainous Jebel Bani, where you will camp overnight.5 hours walking.

Day 4: Oasis Foum Taqqat – Dunes Nesrate – Ksar Ait Isfoul

After breakfast, you’ll trek down towards the Draa valley through date groves to your lunch site in the Nesrate Oasis. After lunch, we’ll take a lovely walk through Berber villages along the valley towards our campsite at Ksar Ait Isfoul. We’ll spend roughly 5 1/2 hours walking.

Day 5: Oasis and dunes Nesrate – Zaouiat Sidi Saleh – Dunes Tidiri – Camp

After breakfast, you’ll set off for another nice walk during the day through farmlands and over a small sand dune towards our lunch site near the Marabout (tomb) of Sidi Saleh. After a delicious lunch you’ll carry on to set camp near the dunes of Tidiri. The day will consist of around 5 hours of walking.

Day 6:  Dunes Tidiri  – Oasis and dunes Regabi – dunes Erg Lihoudi Camp

After breakfast, we’ll head off for the highlight of this trek, walking through the dunes of Tidiri. Lunch will be just before you reach the Dunes of Regabi, and a further two hours of walking will get you to the final campsite located on the the dunes of Erg Lihoudi. This trek will consist of 6 hours of walking.

Day 7: Dunes Erg Lihoudi – Village Mhamid or Oulad Driss – return to Marrakech

We’ll have an early breakfast, the crew will load the car then you’ll start the long journey back to Marrakesh with some rest stops on the way to enjoy the views and have lunch/drinks. We’ll arrive in Marrakesh after an 8h (430km) drive. This day will consist of only 2 ours of walking.

3 Days Tour From Ouarzazate To Merzouga Desert via Drâa valley

Itinerary overview :

The 3 days DESERT TOUR FROM OUARZAZATE tour departs from Ourzazate and heads towards the desert of Erg Chebbi Dunes near Merzouga to spend the night there, after we visit Dades Valley and Toudra Gorges along with many spots, villages, and oases on the way. After spending some time in the desert, the tour ends by returning to Ouarzazate and exploring the Kasbahs and the villages on the way.

DAY 1: OUARZAZATE – SKOURA OASIS – ROSES VALLEY – DADES GORGES

We start our 3 days tour from Ouarzazate to Merzouga via Draa Valley after breakfast. After visiting the oasis of Skoura, the astonishing kasbah of Amridel, and the rose valley of Kalaat Mgouna, we will head for the Dades valley on the road of the thousand kasbahs. We will then stop in the tranquility of the valley and the gorges of Dades. This is where the nomadic families live. Overnight in a traditional riad.

DAY 2: DADES GORGES – TODRA GORGES – ERFOUD – MERZOUGA DESERT CAMP

We will take a walk among the canyons of the Dades Valley after waking up and having breakfast. We will then leave the village and head for the Toudra Gorges. Here, we will discover more of Morocco’s fascinating natural landscapes. We will head towards Merzouga after spending some time in the gorges. In Merzouga, we will leave our car behind and take camels with a local guide to the high dunes of Erg Chebbi. To enjoy the amazing sunset, we will climb a high dune. Then we will go to the desert camp. We will spend the night stargazing and listening to the trance music of the nomad band.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA – RISSANI – ALNIF – N’KOB – DRAA VALLEY – OUARZAZATE

After watching the sunrise, we will leave the desert camp and return to the hotel in Merzouga. Our 4×4 car will take us to the palm groves of Tafilalet, where we will visit Rissani, a holy land of the Moroccan royal family. We will have a traditional lunch in Alnif and visit many villages and kasbahs, such as Tazarine, N’kob, and Tansikht, before driving towards Ouarzazate through the Draa Valley and passing by some villages, such as Agdez. In Ouarzazate, we will end our 3-day tour from Ouarzazate to Merzouga via Draa Valley.

Marrakech Daraa valley et Merzouga is 6-days Morocco tour to descover the sought of Morocco.

After breakfast, Marrakech camel trips start with a early daparture to Telouet via the mountain of hight Atlas passing throught the TiziNtichka pass reaching 2,260 m, visite of the Kasbah of Pacha Glaoui in telouet (lunch in the place). Afternoon tracks to Ait Ben Haddou via the Ounila valley with its berber villages. Continuation to Ouarzazate. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

After the breakfast, departure for Agdez via the anti-Atlas at 1660 altitude, then continuation towards Zagora along the Draa valley with its procession of palm trees while passing by many typical Berber village arrived at Zagora. Lunch on the place. Afternoon departure for Tamgroute to visit old Koranic library, the kasbah underground and the Manufacture of pottery. Return To Zagora. Dinner and over night in hotel.

Departure to Zagora passing again by the Draa valley to join a track which carries out towards the village of Taftechna and the village of Ait Ouaazique with its engravers repestres and by the road one to join Tazarine And Alnif and have lunch in the place. After lunch wecontinue towards the impressive dunes of Merzouga (Chebbi Erg) via Rissani. Then we will switch from our 4x4 to camels, where we¬ll be taken on a camel ride on the dunes to enjoy the sunset and overnight on a true nomad bivouac in the deep of the dunes. Dinner and over night in a bivouac.

Wake up early in the morning in order to admire the sunrise and return on camels to the bottom of the dunes. After breakfast, we will take the track which carries out towards the town of Erfoud. Then departure for crossing the palm plantation of Tourog, and the one ofTinjdad (lunch in the place), afternoon we continues towards the toudra Gorges and spend the night there. Dinner and over night in hotel.

After the breakfast, we will walk about one hour in the palm plantation of Tinghir, then departure for Boumalne to continue towards the Dades Gorges and have lunch in the place.In the afternoon return by the dades valley to the Kasbah of Ait Youl from here you will take a track which crosses the rose valley and which carries out towards the rose capital of Kelaa Mgouna, the drive to Skoura and visit of the Kasbah of Amredhyle after the visit we continue to Ouarzazate.

After the breakfast, departure to visit the town of Ouarzazate : the Kasbah of Taourirt and cinema studio ; then drive to Marrakesh by the Tizi N-Tichka pass.
