Bangkok Weather and Travel: Month by Month

Bangkok has a tropical monsoon climate and generally remains hot and humid throughout the year. Bangkok has three seasons: hot, rainy, and "cool" and dry.

The coolest and driest months are December and January, with almost no rainfall and an average low of 22°C (72°F) and high of 31°C (88°F), so still warm, but not so hot.

The hottest month is April, with an average high of 35°C (95°F) and low of 27°C (80°F). The high rainfall starts around mid-May and reaches its maximum in September.

Best Times to Visit Bangkok

Though Bangkok is a year-round destination, the best time to visit Bangkok weather-wise is from November to February. The weather is not-so-hot and mostly sunny, which is very suitable for sightseeing.

You will find big discounts if you travel between June and October due to the rainy season. It is usually the cheapest time of year to go to Bangkok.

If you want to experience Thailand's top festivals, then come in April or November, which are the months for Thai New Year (a.k.a. Songkran Festival) and Loy Krathong respectively.

In the middle and end of the year, Bangkok, the shopping paradise, offers attractive discounts at major shopping malls.

The Worst Times to Visit Bangkok

Located in the tropics, Bangkok can be scorching and humid on some days, which would be the worst time to visit if you can't stand that sort of weather.

  • April and May are times to avoid if you don't like scorching heat and a muggy feeling.
  • September to early October is the rainiest time. If you don't like the rain, then this is the period you should avoid.

However, at those times you can find the most favorable prices and enjoy less-crowded attractions.

The heat can also be avoided as much as possible by organizing your schedule wisely.

Although rain is a bit of a nuisance, it usually rains in the late afternoon or early evening. So, it wouldn't affect your whole visit.

Peak Season in Bangkok (November to February)

The most popular time to travel to Bangkok is from November to February with its comfortable weather. However, it also brings higher trip costs and large number of travelers.

Bangkok in November — Comfortable with Little Rain

  • Average low/high temperature: 24°C/32°C (76°F/89°F)

With nice weather conditions, November is a good time to go anywhere in Bangkok, like visiting the Grand Palace, local markets, and temples.

There is a big festival in November — Loy Krathong . There are lively celebrations in parks, temples, and on rivers all over Bangkok.

Bangkok in December — Coolest Month

  • Average low/high temperature: 22°C/31°C (72°F/88°F)

December is the driest and coolest month of the year in Bangkok. It is also the most touristy month.

The end of December brings a festive atmosphere. There are celebrations on Christmas and New Year's Eve in Bangkok. Shopping malls in Thailand have big sales from late December to early January. If you're planning a trip to Thailand over the Christmas and New Year period, try to book as early as possible. Popular hotels are usually booked up 3-6 months in advance.

>>> Best Places to Spend Christmas in Thailand

Bangkok in January — Sunny

  • Average low/high temperature: 22°C/32°C (72°F/89°F)

January is still cool with bright sunshine.

Temples in Bangkok, Maeklong Railway Market, floating markets, and historical parks around Bangkok are all good choices to visit.

Bangkok in February — Still Nice Weather

  • Average low/high temperature: 24°C/33°C (75°F/91°F)

Although the temperature has risen a bit in February, it is still a good time to visit Bangkok because of the lack of rain.

Bangkok's China Town is a good place to visit when it coincides with Chinese New Year.

Shoulder Season in Bangkok (March to June)

Temperatures in Bangkok begin to rise sharply from March, and rains arrive in May.

Although not as many as in the peak season, there are still many tourists for the Songkran Festival in April.

Bangkok in March — Heat Up

  • Average low/high temperature: 26°C/34°C (78°F/93°F)

Temperatures heat up in March, especially in late March. However, early March is still suitable for sightseeing. You still can expect more sun and less rain than at other times of the year.

Bangkok in April — Hottest Month

  • Average low/high temperature: 27°C/35°C (80°F/95°F)

April is the hottest month of the year in Bangkok. It is also wetter than March.

Songkran Festival (Thai New Year) falls on April 13–15. Though April is not a peak season, the festival still attracts many travelers.

Visiting temples or arranging a morning/night outdoor tour, like a night cruise could avoid the heat as much as possible.

Bangkok in May — Rains Start

  • Average low/high temperature: 27°C/34°C (80°F/94°F)

The rainy season in Bangkok begins in May. The combination of rain and heat inevitably creates a muggy feeling.

Relaxing by the pool or in an air-conditioned café can alleviate such feelings.

There are few tourists in Bangkok in May. It is a great time to visit Bangkok for favorable prices.

Bangkok in June — Hot and Wet

  • Average low/high temperature: 27°C/33°C (80°F/92°F)

Bangkok in June is a little less muggy than May. Rainfall is moderate and passes quickly.

You could expect less-crowded attractions and shoulder season promotions.

Shopping in an air-conditioned shopping mall is a good choice in June. Bangkok's many shopping malls will have discounts in the middle of the year.

Low Season in Bangkok (July to October)

July to October is the rainy season in Bangkok.

Increasing rainfall makes July to October less touristy. Some travelers take advantage of the opportunity to gain a quiet experience with less costs, though.

Bangkok in July — Moderate Rain

  • Average low/high temperature: 26°C/33°C (79°F/91°F)

Traveling in July is not bad. The temperature in July drops a little. Rainfall is at moderate levels.

Rain showers usually come in the afternoon or at dusk. Just plan your trip around this knowledge. Don't worry too much about the impact of rain on your trip.

Bangkok in August — Rain Increases

Temperatures in August are the same as July's, but rainfall begins to increase at the end of August.

Taking a Thai cooking class, getting a Thai spa/massage, and watching a wonderful cultural performance (e.g. Muay Thai kick boxing) are all good activities for the rainy season.

Bangkok in September — Rainiest Month

  • Average low/high temperature: 26°C/32°C (78°F/90°F)

In September, you would see heavy rain/thunderstorms very regularly. Monsoonal rainfall is at its peak in Bangkok.

It is probably the month to get the most favorable prices.

Bangkok in October — End of the Rainy Season

  • Average low/high temperature: 25°C/32°C (78°F/89°F)

Finally, in October, Bangkok's rainy season comes to an end. In mid-October, the rainfall starts to decrease.

So, late October is actually quite a good time to visit Bangkok: there's less rainfall, and you could avoid the upcoming peak season, starting in November.

Best Times To Visit Bangkok

The best time to visit Bangkok is from November to March when the heat and humidity are at their lowest. Still, Thailand's tropical climate could easily bring temperatures up to 90 degrees on any given day, regardless of the time of year. To find deals on airfare and hotel rates, consider a trip between April and October, the hottest and rainiest time of the year. Not only are you more likely to find a deal during this time, but crowds will also likely be fewer in comparison to "winter," which is Bangkok's peak travel season. Keep in mind that monsoon season officially starts in May and generally lasts until late September and early November.

It used to be that Bangkok ’s weather was defined by three clearly demarcated seasons: the “cool,” the hot, and the wet, but these days locals like to joke that there is only hot, hotter and hottest. While it may be true that the Thai capital runs on a sultry high-flame sizzle most days, there are definitely seasonal differences, as well as compelling reasons to visit year round.

You’re never going to have to worry about it being cold here, and if you like to travel with just shorts and t-shirts, you’ll be in your element, but your ability (or not) to handle the hot season heat or the high season crowds might influence just when you plan your visit. Here’s a breakdown of the three different Thailand seasons and how each can be best for planning a trip to Bangkok.

November to February is the best time for comfortable weather

November marks the start of both Bangkok’s most comfortable weather as well as tourist high season, which runs until the end of February. While some refer to this period as the “cool” season, note that this is just a relative term. Temperatures still will be close to 30°C (86°F) or higher and there will be plenty of sunshine, while evenings can be quite pleasant, with lots of outdoor beer gardens opening up with no need for air conditioning. During this time you’ll even get a few cold snaps where the temperature will drop to 20°C (68°F) and all the locals will be bundled in down jackets and other winter-associated garb! This is also the one time of year when you have a chance to go sightseeing without being drenched in perspiration.

Lion dance at Yaowarat Road during the celebration of the Chinese New Year in Chinatown Bangkok Thailand

Not only is this the most pleasant time of year weather-wise, it’s also a season of some of the top Thai holidays, like Loy Krathong, when everyone floats illuminated banana-leaf boats on the canals and Chao Phraya River. Loy Krathong is held during the November full moon, and is followed up by the large Christmas and New Year festivities. While not traditionally Thai, all the shopping malls are decorated with large trees and there are countless shopping sales and restaurant holiday promotions. All the holiday energy is capped off by a massive New Year’s Eve celebration that features fireworks across the city, buzzing outdoor beer gardens and countdown parties. Towards the end of this season is Chinese New Year, usually taking place in February, where you can see traditional Chinese opera performances and watch the streets of Chinatown come to life with fantastic food, dragon parades and other colorful happenings.

While the weather at this time of year may be the ideal winter escape, you’ll be in fierce competition with plenty of other sun worshippers, as this is considered high season in Thailand. Hotels will be at a premium and often need to be booked well in advance, especially around Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year. Tourist attractions and shopping malls will be packed, and all of the nearby beach escapes such as Pattaya or Ko Samet will be overrun. One pleasant exception to this is that during the days leading up to and after New Year, Bangkok empties out, with most people returning home or going on vacation for a week, meaning that you’ll get to experience the capital without gridlock, taxi queues or the usual crowds.

March to May is the hottest time of year

The beginning of March marks the start of the hot and dry season in Bangkok. It almost never rains during this stretch and temperatures soar, in recent years staying above 40°C (104°F) for prolonged stretches. It’s a challenging time to be sightseeing and traveling, although visiting from March to May does have some rewards. This is tourist low season, with far fewer visitors than at other times of year. If you’re into shopping and elegant stays, this can be an excellent time to come, as you’ll find plenty of ice-cold air conditioning in all the malls, hotels, and skytrain, plus some great promotions on accommodation.

Coming here in mid-April (13-15) also means you can experience Songkran, the Thai New Year and world’s biggest water fight, where everyone takes to the street for a large water carnival. Wear some old clothes, wrap your wallet and cellphone in plastic, buy a squirt gun, and go out and join the fun. It’s another way to beat the heat and see Bangkok at its best. While Songkran accommodation reservations need to be made well in advance, you can pretty much just show up and still find great deals for the rest of the hot season, one of the perks of traveling during the heat.

June to August is the onset of the monsoon season

While the temperatures drop back down far below the April-May sizzle, the humidity goes up, so it can be pretty sticky. On the plus side, the rainstorms clean out the smoggy Bangkok air, and this can be the least-polluted time of year to experience the capital. As this is the summer for Europeans and North Americans, there will be more tourists than during the hot season, but nowhere near the crowds of November to February, and you’ll still be able to find great deals on hotels and travel, especially at nearby beach resorts like Hua Hin or Pattaya.

September to October is the rainiest period, great for budget travel

While the initial onset of the monsoon season tends to see short heavy rains, the end of the monsoon is when it gets really wet. September and October are the rainiest months in Bangkok, the only time when you will really see some days when it rains consistently or all day long. The area around the Chao Phraya River is often flooded, although hotels and restaurants put up sandbags to mitigate the damage and assist guests with getting in and out, but prepare for traffic to be at full gridlock and you’ll need an umbrella with you throughout your stay.

On the plus side, if you don’t mind the wet you’ll be here at the quietest time of year for tourism, with no need to book in advance and plenty of deals to entice, which is great for budget travelers. Older travelers may appreciate this season, as September marks the return to school in Europe and North America, meaning less young visitors in Thailand. Additionally, there are several really excellent festivals in September and October; the Vegetarian Festival, a 9-day celebration where people refrain from meat-eating, wear white and throng the Chinatown temples where there are opera performances, parades and plenty of vegetarian food, followed by the Moon or Mid-Autumn festival, where families carry lanterns through Chinatown and exchange mooncakes.

Despite the rain, for many visitors, the cleaner air, green countryside and few tourists makes this the optimal time of year to plan a trip to Bangkok.

The best time to visit Bangkok is between mid November and end of March which are the peak months. During these months you can expect the best weather in Bangkok. These months experience the least rainfall in Bangkok. Days are nice and sunny yet temperatures are pleasant with daily averages of 26℃. Evenings are enjoyable with temperatures often dipping below.

You can still have an amazing holiday in Bangkok outside the peak months. In fact many tourists prefer low season for the fewer crowds and cheaper hotel prices. You just need to be prepared because days tend to be hotter and between May to October is rainy season in Bangkok. But don’t worry, it rarely rains more than an hour or 2.

This article covers everything you need to know about Bangkok weather. By the end you will know exactly what to expect and what are the best months to visit Bangkok.

Sitting in front of a stall in Bangkok

When is the best time to Visit Bangkok?

The best time to visit Bangkok is during the dry season’s cooler months which is between mid November and March. During these months you can expect pleasant temperatures due to lower humidity levels and the least rainfall. This also makes it a popular time to visit Bangkok.

These months are the peak season, so you can expect larger crowds especially at famous attractions such as the Grand Palace and Wat Arun. Hotels and tours are often booked in advance and any last minute bookings will always be at a higher price. Make sure to plan accordingly.

Bangkok between March and June

From the end of March to around May temperatures continue rising, sometimes reaching 40℃. Showers can also be expected which tend to come in heavy bursts lasting 1 or 2 hours and offer a spite of relief from the sweltering heat. Days still remain warm with an average of 30℃.

It is best to do any sightseeing such as temples and any outdoor activities in the morning. Doing so will help avoid the mid day heat and also any crowds. Always remember to drink lots of water and stop for frequent breaks in the shade or cool down in an air conditioned cafe.

April is the month when the Thai new year is celebrated and is a particularly interesting time to be in Bangkok. Thai new year known as a Songkran is a big holiday that is celebrated with a massive water fight to signify the cleansing of the past year and starting a fresh new year. It’s good way to cool down during these hotter days.

Bangkok between July and October

The low season in Bangkok is between July and October. Also know as the monsoon season, days during these months are unpredictable. While many think monsoon season means constant rain, that isn’t always the case. The days during these months are a combination of overcast, sunny and rainy patches. With rain usually coming in heavy bursts in the late afternoon or evening.

Visiting Bangkok during low season is an attractive time. Lots of hotels offer attractive deals. Restaurants will rarely require a reservation. And tourist attractions such as the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun and Ayutthaya and the River Kwai, just outside Bangkok will be more peaceful. I say, you just need to be prepared for unpredictable days, but rain should always be expected.

When should you not go to Bangkok?

August to October are the wettest months in Bangkok. These months experience the most rainfall in Bangkok with frequent showers and heavy downfalls and also flooding aren’t uncommon.

If you don’t mind the rain and not so much sun and are more interested in finding cheap accommodation and also cheap flights, then these months are the best.

Bangkok in August – Best Time to Visit Bangkok

Up until August the weather in Bangkok is generally a mix of sunny days with a high expectation of rain. However, August marks the last months of these unpredictable weather patterns. Also by the end of August there is a lot less tourists due to any families with kids going back home in preparation for the school days.

Bangkok in September – Best Time to Visit Bangkok

Temperature : 25℃ – 32℃ | Dry Season : No

Weather in Bangkok in September is usually is usually one of the wettest months. While September does actually mark the start of the peak monsoon, it is still possible to have sunny days. However, my advice is to be prepared for mostly wet days at least at some part of almost every day.

Bangkok in October – Best Time to Visit Bangkok

October along with September are wettest months. Visiting Bangkok in October expect a similar weather pattern as the previous month. Personally, we have experienced all types of weather in October. We have lived in Bangkok and while rain is frequent in October, we have also seen almost an entire week with the sun out.

However, for anyone visiting for a short vacation, maybe just a few days, it is better to prepare for a high possibility of rain.

Bangkok in November – Best Time to Visit Bangkok

Temperature : 24℃ – 31℃ | Dry Season : No/Yes

November weather in Bangkok sees a huge drop in the amount of rainy days compared to the previous months. The weather is nice and cool with some of the lowest and most pleasant temperatures during the year. November is the best time to visit Bangkok if you want a combination of favorable weather, fewer crowds, and also some good hotel deals.

For outdoor lovers, Bangkok’s surrounding natural landscapes will be lush and green after the rain. And the beautiful such as those in Erawan national park will be full and perfect as a day trip from Bangkok.

Bangkok in December – Best Time to Visit Bangkok

December weather is one of the best months to visit Bangkok. Days are nice and clear after rainy months. Temperatures are pleasant during the day and can be chilli at night. It’s the best time to visit Bangkok if you plan exploring all the temples and historical sites in the old part of Bangkok.

As with any destination, these favorable weather conditions does mean you can expect crowds at the major tourists spots. The Grand Palace, Wat Arun and Wat Pho are all famous tourist spots in Bangkok. But if your plan early it is possible to beat most of the crowds. The sites open at 8:00 am, great time to start the day while everyone is still having breakfast. →Or book a temple tour

Bangkok Travel Guide

How to get around bangkok.

Bangkok is a modern city that is well connect thanks to its extensive public transport system.

Skytrain (BTS)

The BTS Skytrain Sukhumvit line (green line) connect the entire Sukhumvit area which includes popular neighborhoods such as Siam, Thonglor, Ekkamai, Asoke and Nana. The ‘Siam’ BTS stop (near all the malls) is also an interchange for the BTS Silom line (turquoise line) which goes to Silom, Sathorn and the riverside area close to exclusive riverfront hotels such as The Chatrium , Four Seasons Hotel and the popular Shangri-La Bangkok.

Underground (MRT)

The MRT in Bangkok is an underground system that connects areas outside the limits of the skytrain. It isn’t as popular as the BTS because the route doesn’t pass along the popular neighborhoods. The MRT Wat Mangkon is one of the popular stops as it is close to Chinatown, Yaowarat road.

For shorter distances, regular metered taxis can be used. Just wave a taxi down, ask if the driver will use the meter, or you can also negotiate a fixed price which will always be higher than the meter fare. Meter taxis start THB35 for the first 1km and then increase by approximately 7THB for each extra km.

If you prefer an online taxi, download the GRAB app, it’s the equivalent of Uber and works the same way. Choose pick and destination, type of car (standard or luxury) and you’re good to go. GRAB is more expensive than taking a metered taxi.

Taking a tuk-tuk is a right of passage for any visiting Bangkok or Thailand. It’s this funky little 3 wheeled motorbike with seats fitted in the back. And they’re usually personalized with bright neon lights, cool wheels, loud exhaust pipes and even louder beat boxes under the seat. It’s fun, exciting and iconic to Thailand and is also one of the most expensive ways to move around the city. Prices must be negotiated beforehand. To get a fair price, check how much the ride would cost on GRAB, and try to get a similar price.

Where to stay in Bangkok?

Bangkok is a very big city and correctly choosing the right hotel in an ideal area that suits your travel plan will have a huge impact on your travel experience.

As the saying goes, ‘location, location, location’ that is the most important things to consider. That is unless you just want a really nice hotel that will cater to all your needs and has all amenities onsite such as Capella Bangkok . But if that’s not the case, below are 3 areas to consider with Silom/Sathorn being our favorite.

Old Bangkok

At a glance: temples, The Grand Palace, Khaosan road, Budget accommodation

The old Bangkok quarters comprises some of the cities most historical and important sites. The Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun are the most popular. It’s a beautiful part of the city with charming neighborhoods home to old buildings. Some of the best streetfood is also found in Old Bangkok such as the popular street Yaowarat in Chinatown. And Khaosan the famous backpacker street is also here.

Sukhumvit is becoming a favorite area to stay among tourists. It’s important to not that Sukhumvit is the name of a main road that crosses through Bangkok and comprises of various areas popular areas such as Nana (red light district), Ekkamai – Thonglor (cool neighborhoods), Asoke and Siam the where all the shopping malls are. Its easy to get around all these areas thanks to skytrain.

All hotels I have listed below are within 5 minutes walk to various restaurants, bars and a decent nightlife scene and also the BTS in the Ekkamai and Thonglor area. I chose these areas because they spill into each other and personally I think you’ll find everything you need in a relatively compact area.

The best places to stay in Thonglor – Ekkamai ⤵

Silom/Sathorn

A street in Bophut fishermans village Koh Samui

At a glance:

I grouped these 2 areas together because I am referring to 2 parallel street going west from Lumphini park. Silom and Sathorn are Bangkok’s business district. While it isn’t a popular area with tourists, there is a large expat community. There is also a very big local food scene which is often overshadowed by the more popular Yaowarat road which also happens to be close by.

This part of Bangkok is our personal choice because it’s in the middle of everything. River boats can be used to reach the old part of Bangkok and the BTS silom line connect to Sukhumvit. There’s also some of the most luxurious riverfront hotels, chic bars, rooftops cocktail bars and pretty everything fancy and high end can be found here. Yet if you’re on a budget, there is still quite a few places on offer

Best Time to Visit Bangkok: Month-by-Month Guide

By Alex Schultz · Last updated on May 29, 2024

Renowned for its stunning temples, delicious street food and pounding nightlife, Bangkok is one of the most popular cities to visit in the world. While Thailand’s cosmopolitan capital is a rather crowded, chaotic place, that doesn’t stop countless millions from visiting each year.

As it is the cool season and its relentless heat and humidity aren’t quite so bad, most people head here between November and March. Despite the strong monsoon rains, both July and August also see an uptick in visitors due to the summer holidays in Europe. The odds of you getting soaked at some point are pretty high though!

To help you plan your trip, let’s now take a look at what the weather is like month-by-month in Bangkok and what big events are going on. You can then decide whether you want to visit for Songkran and Chinese New Year or give the rainy and hot seasons a skip.

What’s the Weather Like in Bangkok?

While temperatures are pretty consistent, averaging between 31 and 35°C (88–95°F) each month, Bangkok has three distinct seasons – these are the hot, wet and cool.

The most comfortable months weatherwise are from November to February when the city is a bit cooler and there is less humidity. Their dry, sunny days are best for sightseeing with its night markets being a great way to relax afterwards.

March until May is the hot season when its heat and humidity are quite unpleasant, at times soaring into the 40s (100s°F). As wandering about is so tiring, you’ll have to spend a lot of time cooling off in air-conditioned shopping malls.

From mid-May onwards, the monsoon season starts, only letting up in October. August and September are the rainiest months, averaging 19 and 20 days of rain. During this period, its days are quite overcast with thunderstorms mainly tipping it down in the late afternoon.

Best Months to Visit Bangkok

Bangkok Climate

By far the most popular months to explore the massive metropolis are November through to January. This is when Europeans fleeing the cold head here for Christmas and countries like Australia and Singapore have their summer holidays. Chinese New Year also takes place during this period.

As a result, its hotel prices and airfares are more expensive. Although it is the ‘cool’ season, you’ll still need to dress lightly, hydrate regularly and take breaks from the scorching sun.

Both February and March also see lots of people visit but the heat and humidity are already creeping up again. After this is the off-season though April does have its wild, wet Songkran celebrations to take part in.

While July and August are very wet, some Western travelers still venture here during their summer holidays. Prices are cheaper and the city is a bit cooler and less crowded.

Bangkok in January

Bangkok Pool

After December, January is the most popular month to visit Bangkok as loads of people have holidays, the weather is dry and there is less humidity. With nine hours of sunshine a day and average temperatures of 32°C (89°F), sightseeing can still be quite tiring. As the nights are cooler, dropping around 10 degrees, spending time outside in the evenings is very pleasant.

Due to the influx of visitors, prices are higher with its main temples and tourist sites being a bit more crowded. To be honest though, the capital’s streets are pretty much always chaotic and congested. If Khao San Road gets overwhelming, you can always take relaxing cruises along the Chao Phraya River. Its nearby beaches and Ayutthaya’s archaeological sites will be pretty packed though during this high season.

Bangkok in February

Bangkok in February

If Chinese New Year doesn’t fall in January, then February is when all its fun celebrations are held. Red lanterns are strung up everywhere with dragon parades, dance performances and acrobats all creating an amazing ambience in its Chinatown. Large crowds pour into the city to celebrate with many Thai also heading to the countryside to see their families.

As it is still peak season, expect to pay more for accommodation though flight fares should have come down a bit. While February is slightly hotter and more humid, its sunny, dry days are still some of the best for ambling around the capital. The Buddhist festival Makha Bucha also has lovely candlelit processions and large groups of worshipers express their gratitude at its many temples.

Bangkok in March

Bangkok Street

Before the worst of the heat and humidity hit, March is the last main month that people visit Bangkok until July. As its crowds have subsided somewhat, this is a good time to explore its temples, palaces and floating markets. Make sure to take breaks and hydrate often though as it can be uncomfortably hot during the day with even the evenings not being so cool now.

As March is the shoulder season, prices for hotels and flights fall further as less visitors head here on holiday. If you avoid the hottest hours of the day, it is the ideal month to sunbathe and swim at the country’s islands and beaches as there is barely a cloud in the sky. Towards the end of it though, the high temperatures are a bit extreme, especially for sightseeing.

Bangkok in April

Bangkok Songkran

The hottest month of the year, April is almost unbearable at times as averages of 35°C (so 95°F) during the day don’t get much better at night. While hotels are cheaper, you’ll want to book one with a pool. You can also cool off in Lumphini Park or at one of its air-conditioned malls. Sightseeing is tiring and not that enjoyable with the humidity also not helping.

On the plus side, you can find some great travel deals and there won’t be any crowds at its main attractions. Floating along the Chao Phraya River is also very pleasant. Loads of people also pour in to celebrate Songkran when massive water fights break out all around the city. Many businesses shut as residents head back to their hometowns for the Thai New Year.

Bangkok in May

Visakha Bucha

This sweltering heat and humidity continues into May with most visitors staying away as a result. The approaching monsoon creates a muggy, oppressive feeling with the rainy season usually arriving around the middle of the month. Due to the uncomfortable conditions, May sees the least amount of tourists arrive.

While prices are low and there are no crowds, the weather really isn’t great for exploring the city. As well as the high temperatures, there are 15 days with quite a lot of rain. This does at least cool things down a bit. If it doesn’t fall in June, then Visakha Bucha is celebrated at its temples. Devout Buddhists make offerings and perform rituals commemorating the birth, enlightenment and passing of the Buddha.

Bangkok in June

Bangkok June

A bit better weatherwise, June is less muggy than May with its heat and humidity also being more manageable. While it does rain 15 days on average, its showers are not as strong and tend to pass quickly. You’ll still want to take an umbrella around with you though and spend time in its air-conditioned malls – many of which have discounts as it is the low season.

Both its airfares and accommodation prices remain very affordable with its main attractions also being devoid of crowds. Other than traipsing around CentralWorld, it’s worth heading to Wat Arun and the Grand Palace while no one is around.

Bangkok in July

Bangkok in July

Although July averages 17 days with torrential tropical downpours, there is a smallish spike in visitors as Europeans head here on their summer holidays. While flights tend to be more expensive, hotel prices remain roughly the same as tourist numbers are so low.

As Bangkok’s temples, palaces and museums are pretty quiet, July isn’t a bad month to see its sights. Most of the rain usually falls in the afternoon or around dusk so try and bear that in mind when you’re out and about. During this wet period, there is a mix of sunny days and cloudy ones, short, sudden showers and rainstorms that last almost all day.

Bangkok in August

Floating Market near Bangkok

August is even wetter in Bangkok, particularly towards the end of the month when the rains really pick up and some roads even flood. Despite the endless deluges, plenty of Europeans visit on their summer holidays. While flight prices are again a bit pricier, you can still pick up some fantastic deals on hotels.

In addition to exploring its historic temples and floating markets – with an umbrella in hand of course – there are some fun events to enjoy. Its Mid-Autumn or Mooncake Festival usually takes place in August with loads of stalls selling traditional treats. This is an excellent month to take Thai cooking classes or watch kick boxing bouts – anything to shelter from the rain!

Bangkok in September

Bangkok Rainy Season

After Europeans’ summer holidays are over, the number of visitors arriving plummets as the monsoon really sets in. September is the wettest month of the year with it raining a lot for 20 days on average. As well as its heavy rain and thunderstorms, there is a lot less sun with the skies often being overcast.

Even though the airfares and accommodation options are cheaper, September is one of the worst months weatherwise for wandering about the city. While the rain does make averages of 32°C (89°F) more comfortable, you’ll want to spend a lot of time indoors at its museums and malls. If you don’t mind getting wet or are a bit flexible in terms of sightseeing and day trips, this is one of the cheapest times to visit Bangkok.

Bangkok in October

Bangkok October

Once mid-October comes around, its fierce downpours finally start to decrease a bit. It does still rain though for 16 days on average. As it is the last month before huge crowds pour in, it can be a great time to experience Bangkok’s lively markets and nightlife spots. After this, they get too busy and hotel prices shoot up.

Still quite hot and humid for the most part, October has a number of fun festivals to attend. While parades, dragon dances and fireworks displays are held in Chinatown for its traditional Vegetarian Festival, there is also its International Festival of Dance and Music going on. Lots of terrific plays and ballets then take place at its state-of-the-art Thailand Cultural Center.

Bangkok in November

Loy Krathong

Now that the rains are over, the skies are clear and days are sunny, November sees massive numbers of visitors arrive in Bangkok. While hotels and airfares are more expensive, the dry weather is perfect for sightseeing or sunbathing and swimming at its nearby beaches.

Happening areas like Khao San Road and Chatuchak Market are packed with queues forming at its main attractions. Other than sipping cocktails at rooftop bars, you can take part in its lovely Loy Krathong festival. Thousands of small candlelit vessels are released along its river and canals, creating a very magical ambience. Lots of fun games and holiday food can also be enjoyed at its Golden Mount Temple Fair.

Bangkok in December

Bangkok Christmas

As it is the most popular month of the year to visit, Bangkok is very crowded and even more chaotic in December. Prices are at their highest as everyone heads here for the holidays to enjoy the good weather. With 8 hours of sunshine, no rain and averages of 31°C (88°F), the cool days are some of the best for strolling about the city and taking trips along the river.

Besides the King’s Birthday celebrations, there are also the Trooping of the Colours military parade to watch. Christmas and New Year’s also have various festivities taking place with its rooftop bars being a great spot from which to admire the fireworks displays. Many shopping malls have huge discounts towards the end of the month to entice the holiday crowds.

The best time to visit Bangkok is in November when monsoon season is ending, but busy season and temperatures haven’t yet peaked. Also during November, you’ll get to see Loi Krathong, one of Thailand’s most loved festivals .

Although Bangkok can be enjoyed at any time of year , factors such as monsoon season, busy festivals, and heat with high humidity can affect your time there. Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year celebration, is the wildest and most festive time to visit Bangkok. But to participate in the world’s largest water fight, you’ll have to deal with extreme heat in April that precedes monsoon season.

Key Events and Festivals

Although not as disruptive as they are in Chiang Mai, Songkran and Loi Krathong (Thailand’s two busiest holidays) bring even more chaos than usual to Bangkok’s streets.

From April 12-15, neighborhoods such as the Khao San Road area in Banglumphu will be in the throes of the largest water fight in the world. Unless you happen to be a monk or hide indoors for four days, you’re going to get drenched during Songkran. Protect your passport and electronics!

Lunar New Year (January or February) is another exceptionally busy time to be in Bangkok. Both airports become inundated with Chinese travelers taking advantage of the holiday. Although Suvarnabhumi becomes clogged, the older Don Mueang Airport gets hit the hardest. Wait times at immigration can be more than two hours as queues snake throughout the airport.

Thailand is one of the few countries in the world where travelers should pay attention to the moon phases. If you’re traveling to islands in the Samui Archipelago , know that transportation from Bangkok will be affected just before a full moon. Tens of thousands of travelers head south to Haad Rin on the island of Koh Phangan to dance on the beach during Full Moon Parties. Afterward, there is a mass migration north to Bangkok.

The Weather in Bangkok

Unless extreme air conditioning in massive mega-malls is the cause, you’ll never be chilly in Bangkok. Middle-of-the-night lows in January, often the coolest month, are still in the mid-70s F. Temperatures feel warmer and the air thicker due to urban humidity trapped by pollution.

Daytime averages usually range between 82-89 degrees F. Highs during the “hot season” from March to May can surpass 100 degrees F with more than 70 percent humidity.

Monsoon Season

Monsoon season gives Bangkok a much-needed cleaning from May to October . The finale in September and October is usually the rainiest time to travel in Thailand. September receives 12.3 inches of rain on average. Even during the peak of the rainy season, you’ll still have plenty of days without rain to explore Bangkok. Enjoy, but be ready for pop-up downpours on most afternoons.

The Chao Phraya River is subject to flooding during monsoon season (especially in August and September). Although engineering measures have been taken since the record-breaking floods in 2011, parts of the city remain inundated every year. Closed streets and halted taxi-boat service on the river exasperate traffic problems.

Peak Season in Bangkok

First, prepare yourself: Bangkok is always busy . In fact, Thailand’s capital often lures in more annual travelers than any other city in the world, including London and New York. Over 23 million tourists traveled to Bangkok in 2018. You’re going to have to share the delights, especially at top tourist attractions such as the Grand Palace and floating markets .

As mentioned, Lunar New Year and big Thai festivals cause the number of travelers passing through Bangkok to surge. If your plan is to get out of Bangkok quickly , try flying into another port of entry (e.g., Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi, or Koh Samui) instead to avoid congestion.

With an average temperature of 82 degrees F, January is one of the coolest months in Bangkok. It’s also one of the busiest. Practically no rain and tolerable temperatures draw more travelers than ever, especially during Chinese New Year. If you don’t mind entering the fray of peak season, January is one of the best times to visit Bangkok.

Events to check out:

  • Bangkok is home to one of the largest ethnic Chinese communities in the world. Unsurprisingly, Lunar New Year is a busy event every January or February (dates change). Base yourself near Chinatown to see the most lion and dragon dances.
  • To witness island hedonism at its wildest, the January Full Moon Party in Haad Rin is often the biggest of the year.

February is also a peak, high-season month to visit Bangkok. Temperatures average a toasty 85 degrees F, and humidity can reach 70 percent. Although that doesn’t sound very “cool,” February is the last cool month before Mother Nature really turns up the heat.

Lunar New Year sometimes occurs in February. Check dates if you’ll be visiting Bangkok in February.

March is the start of hot season in Bangkok. Although rainy days are still rare, temperatures and humidity climb. Highs average in the 90s F but can top 100 degrees F during the afternoon. Nights are warm and muggy.

Pack plenty of extra tops ; you’ll need at least two a day. Use the heat as an excuse to take advantage of the excellent shopping in Bangkok.

April is the hottest month in Bangkok and the last month of dry season. High temperatures hover between the mid-90s F and 101 degrees F.

At this point, locals and tourists alike are ready for monsoon season to bring some relief next month. Fortunately, the Songkran celebration gives everyone a great excuse to dump ice water on each other for a few days.

  • Songkran (April 13-15) is hands down the largest, rowdiest celebration in the country. Expect to get wet every time you walk out of the hotel. Arm yourself, and splash some strangers.

May is the first month of monsoon season. Although at least 15 of May’s 31 days are rainy, precipitation isn’t overly disruptive . Temperatures barely budge. The air is (thankfully) much cleaner but remains stubbornly hot and humid.

  • Coronation Day on May 4 is a public holiday celebrating the crowning of King Vajiralongkorn. Tourists won’t see much of the action.
  • The Royal Ploughing Ceremony (dates change) kicks off the rainy season. Rituals and formal ceremonies are held at Sanam Luang, the parade ground next to the Grand Palace.

As rain continues in June, temperatures finally begin to dip slightly. Despite the rain, tourist arrivals remain relatively high. Backpacking students take advantage of summer break to travel. Winter in Australia sends residents north to Southeast Asia.

July temperatures are in the mid-80s F as monsoon season continues. At least one out of every two days will be rainy.

King Vajiralongkorn’s birthday is observed on July 28.

Temperatures remain consistently in the mid-80s F throughout August. Average rainfall dips a little, perhaps gathering for a final deluge in September and October.

August 12 is the Queen's Birthday and Mother’s Day in Thailand.

With an average of 21 rainy days, September is the peak of the monsoon season . Rain nearly tops 13 inches, triggering flooding in low areas.

September is arguably the worst month to travel to Bangkok in terms of weather. But far fewer tourists will be clogging up popular temples and attractions.

The Mid-Autumn (Moon) Festival usually occurs in September. You’ll see mooncakes for sale throughout the city.

October is usually the second rainiest month in Bangkok. It’s also the last month of monsoon season. At this point, most people are ready for drier weather and busy season to begin. Temperatures average 85–90 degrees F.

  • October 13 is observed as King Bhumibol’s Memorial Day.
  • The Phuket Vegetarian Festival (dates vary in October) is a week of chaotic processions and bodily mutilation.
  • For some quirky fun, go check out the creative costumes shown off by locals in the Khao San Road and Soi Rambuttri area on Halloween.

November in Thailand marks the start of dry season and buildup to high season. Temperatures climb a little as rain (usually) begins to subside around mid-month. The number of wet days plummets to five or six for the month.

  • Loi Krathong is the second largest holiday in Thailand . Colorful, candlelit floats are placed on the Chao Phraya River for blessings. Cultural performances can be enjoyed throughout the city. The famous sky lanterns often seen in photos are restricted in Bangkok. They are actually a part of Yi Peng in Northern Thailand.

The tourist floodgates really open in December as high season feels official. Many European travelers take their Christmas holidays in Thailand . The "winter" weather is enjoyable with temperatures and humidity among the lowest felt all year.

  • December 5 is the anniversary of King Bhumibol’s birthday. Although Thailand’s longest-reigning monarch passed away in 2016, he’ll still be remembered with candlelit vigils and memorials.
  • New Year’s Eve is a public holiday. Many of the nightlife venues and rooftop bars will host countdown parties to lure in expats and holiday travelers.

The best time to visit Bangkok is in November, during the end of monsoon season, but before Thailand's busy season. It's during this month that you can also experience Loi Krathong, one of Thailand’s best cultural festivals.

In Bangkok, the rainy season (or, "monsoon season," as the locals call it) lasts from July through October.

It is customary in Thailand to wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees (for both sexes). Long shorts, capris, pants, and midi skirts are acceptable, as well as any shirt that's not a tank top or crop top.

Best Time To Visit Bangkok - Weather Guide

By Andrew Thompson

Bangkok, Thailand is a year-round destination, provided you’re comfortable with consistently high temperatures. Highs throughout the year tend to hang around the low-to-mid 30 degree mark, even in winter, and the lows seldom dip below 20 degrees. The peak rainy months, between May and November, can see as many as 15 days of rain each, but even so it’s possible to experience the best of the city regardless of when you visit. The city is also busy throughout the year, though some months are more chaotic than others. As such, the best time to visit Bangkok if you’re set on sightseeing with slightly fewer crowds may just be the few weeks between the end of November and early December as it’s drying off from the wet season. The best time to visit Bangkok weather wise is between November and February, when days are warm and rain is uncommon.

Summer

Bangkok summers are hot and wet, and if you’re concerned about getting caught in the monsoons this may be the worst time to visit Bangkok. Many visitors still brave the city at this time of year, but if you’re determined to be one of them it’s important to pack plenty of waterproof gear. On the plus side, if you’re looking for the cheapest time to visit Bangkok, this may also be it. Many hotels lower their prices in anticipation of the declining tourist numbers, and the added bonus is that the typically chaotic city may be slightly less busy. July and August are particularly wet, though there are enough indoor activities to keep visitors busy so as not to interfere with the holiday too much. If all you have is three days in Bangkok , then be prepared to don your rain jacket and do a bit of dashing between attractions.

Shopping, palaces, and hot weather

Shopping, palaces, and hot weather

Bangkok weather in summer is unsurprisingly hot, and with the arrival of the monsoon rains in June you can expect a spike in humidity. As such, it pays to be indoors with the comfort of air-conditioning on the hottest days, which is great news for the shoppers - because many consider this to be the best time to visit Bangkok for shopping. The famous Grand Sale runs from mid-June to mid-August, and most stores in the city offer steep discounts on their items. Aside from the Grand Sale there are also several noteworthy events that take place over the summer months, including street food and film festivals, Pattaya Marathon, and even the Chinese Ghost Festival that usually takes place in August. The hot summer months are also the perfect time to visit the Grand Palace - at other times of the year it’s unbearably crowded, but between June and September an early arrival can mean relative peace and calm at the famous attraction.

Autumn

Autumn is a wet season in Bangkok, with September and October easily the city’s rainiest months. Towards the end of November, Bangkok weather is still hot, but the rainy days start to ease off. As a result, many believe November is the best month to visit Bangkok - it’s hot, dry, and towards the end of the month quieter than other times of the year. Even though autumn is the start of the city’s cold months, don’t expect the heat to ease off too much - typically the maximum temperatures drop off just a few degrees into the high 20s as winter approaches.

Festivals galore in the autumn months

Festivals galore in the autumn months

The autumn months of September to November are packed full of fantastic traditional festivals and events, and the possibility of easing crowds makes it a good time to tick off the best things to do in Bangkok . In September you can attend the Moon Festival. Though it originated in China, Thailand’s residents have made it their own, and you can expect Bangkok’s Chinatown to be the epicenter for activity. Buddhist Lent also falls in October, and to celebrate there are several events throughout the country. Later on in the month is Chulalongkorn Day, an annual event on October 23 that celebrates the life of King Chulalongkorn. It’s a public holiday and an important day filled with prayer and offerings. November is also full of activity, with food and drink festivals taking place in the first weeks of the month. But it’s Loy Krathong Festival, one of the city’s most vibrant festivals, that is particularly worth diarising. It takes place on the first day of the full moon in November on lakes and rivers around the city, and for fans of traditional festivals, this is the best month to visit Bangkok.

Winter

Don’t expect Bangkok weather in winter to ease off much. You’re still looking at highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s. But if you’re looking for little to no rain interruptions, this might be the best time to visit Bangkok. Unfortunately, the slightly cooler temperatures and fewer rain days mean the crowd numbers often peak over this time, resulting in queues at many of the best things to do in Bangkok. This is particularly true around Christmas and New Year, when bars and restaurants fill to capacity with visitors from out of town.

Sightseeing and celebrations

Sightseeing and celebrations

Early December might be the best time to visit Bangkok , weather wise and crowd wise. The days are hot, but they are rain free, and the main crush of holidaying crowds have yet to arrive. This makes it a good time to tick off some of Bangkok’s major attractions. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, there are several things to do in Bangkok that you can’t miss, but once you’ve done these you might look towards some of the various festivals and holidays over this period. Many of these centre around the King’s Birthday, held annually on December 5th, but Constitution Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve are also big days in Bangkok calendar. In January you can attend the Bangkok Fringe Festival, or celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, which takes place in late January or February each year.

Spring

Bangkok weather in spring is already hot, and as the months progress so the rain increases. March is also the end of the high season, so it’s likely that the city will be busy but starting to ease off slightly when it comes to crowds. April is usually the hottest month in Bangkok, with highs of 35 and lows of 27 degrees Celsius, and as such most people retreat to air-conditioned comfort whenever possible. Although by the time May arrives you may be willing on some rain, the start of the monsoon season doesn’t bring with it much relief, and instead can result in more than two weeks of rain days in the month. Even so, there’s a lot to see and do during the months of spring, and if you plan adequately you can have an eventful trip.

Fairs, festivals and celebrations

Fairs, festivals and celebrations

March is a fun time to be in Bangkok. In recent years the Bangkok International Fashion Week, National Book Fair, and St Patrick’s Day have kept the city alive and kicking. April is a month of more traditional festivals, however. Chakri Day, on April 6th, is a public holiday to commemorate the establishment of the Chakri Dynasty in 1782. It’s an important national day and not a rowdy holiday, but the various shows of respect are interesting to observe for first time visitors to the country. Thai New Year, on the other hand, is a raucous celebration that involves nationwide water fights. It usually takes place in mid-April each year and is a remarkable spectacle to witness. If you’re there outside of the main events and holidays, but still want an authentic taste of local culture, then a trip aboard the floating market - a sight that very few visitors see.

Muay Thai Master Class

The ancient art of Muay Thai - also known as Thai boxing - is an integral part of the country’s culture, and there’s no better place to learn about it than in its birthplace. For this two-hour masterclass, you’ll be collected from your hotel by an English-speaking guide and driven to one of Bangkok’s most important boxing stadiums. If you’re a Ryan Gosling fan, it might just look familiar; it was one of the locations for the action film Only God Forgives, in which he played the lead role. During the training session, you’ll learn some of the principles of “the art of eight limbs”, before trying out some basic moves for yourself under the supervision of an expert instructor. Afterwards, you’ll be taken back to your hotel for a well-earned rest.

• Duration: half day (class is 2 hours) • Time: 8am to midday • Daily departures • Operates year round • Private experience

Good to know Soft drinks, coffee, water and all the boxing equipment you’ll require are provided, but you’ll need to bring a towel and wear suitable sportswear.

Bangkok's Highlights in a Day

For those who like to pack the maximum into each day, this trip will take you to some of Bangkok’s most famous sights in comfort. The first stop of the morning is Wat Traimit, home to a three-metre-high statue of a seated Buddha made from solid gold; from here, you’ll travel to another temple, Wat Pho, with another statue of Buddha - this time reclining - that’s a massive 46 metres long. Next on the itinerary is the Grand Palace, a former royal residence, and the temple of the Emerald Buddha, though the statue is actually made of jade. After lunch, you’ll board a traditional boat to cruise along some of the city’s canals, taking in the sights of daily life along the way, before disembarking at your final temple of the day: the riverside Wat Arun, known for its distinctive multicoloured spire.

• Duration: full day • Time: 8am to 3pm • Daily departures • Operates year round • Private experience

Good to know You’ll need to dress appropriately for visiting the various temples: that means long trousers - not leggings - or skirts below the knee, and covered shoulders. Carry a lightweight, though not see-through, cover-up if you want to be more casual the rest of the day.

Bangkok By Night

In the evening, temperatures drop and there’s less traffic, so it’s an ideal time to discover a different side of Bangkok. On this fascinating tour, you’ll travel by tuk tuk from the departure point at Lebua State Tower, a luxury hotel with amazing views from its various bars, to Chinatown for a herb-infused cocktail (or soft drink) and a Thai meal. Afterwards, you’ll whizz around the city’s historic heart past some of its most famous sights, including the Grand Palace - all lit up to spectacular effect. You’ll stroll through the grounds of a temple to admire the illuminations and explore bustling areas known for their amazing street-food scene. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to try some local sweet treats such as kluai thot - deliciously sticky pieces of deep-fried banana coated in sesame seeds - the perfect way to round off the evening.

• Duration: evening • Time: 6.30pm to 10.30pm • Daily departures • Operates year round • Private experience

Good to know The tour is not suitable for children under 10. As for what to wear, you’ll need smart casual clothing if you want to visit the Lebua State Tower before the tour and suitable clothing for visiting temples. It can get surprisingly cool zipping around at night in an open-sided vehicle, so you’ll be grateful for the extra coverage. Transfers to departure point not included

Bangkok Your Way (Private Driver and Guide) - Half Day or Full Day

Whether you know precisely what you want to see or are looking for some suggestions from someone who knows the city like the back of their hand, there’s no better way of exploring Bangkok at your own pace than with a private guide and chauffeur. With the help of their insider tips, you’ll be able to get unique insights into the city’s most famous sights, discover hidden gems you’d never have stumbled upon on your own and learn about the country’s culture along the way. With stops wherever and whenever you want, and the ability to change course on a whim, it’s a superb option for those travelling with children and those who want a tailor-made immersion in the history and culture of Bangkok.

• Duration: half day or full day • Daily departures • Operates year round • Private experience

Good to know You’ll have to pay locally for parking fees and tickets to any attractions you visit, and for any refreshments.

Ayutthaya’s Highlights In A Day

If you have a passion for history and a love of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, you won’t want to miss the chance to explore Thailand’s ancient capital. The city of Ayutthaya was one of the world’s most important urban areas from 1350 to 1767, before being sacked by the Burmese, and its ruins are a fascinating place to wander. On this engaging private experience, you’ll travel by train from Bangkok to Ayutthaya. Here, you’ll hop on one of the distinctive local “kermit” tuk-tuks - so-called because of their frog-green colour - to enable you to explore every corner of the Historical Park effortlessly, something that families, in particular, will appreciate. Soak up the views of crumbling temples, ancient statues and romantic towers, before boarding a riverboat for a restful, and scenic, return to Bangkok.

• Duration: full day • Time: 6.30am to 4pm • Departures every Wednesday to Monday • Operates year round • Private experience

Good to know Proper clothing is required for visiting temples. Includes roundtrip transfers.

Bangkok Street Food

Thailand is known for its delicious street food, and one of the best places to sample it is in Bangkok’s historic Rattanakosin district, also known as the Old Town. On this four-hour tour, you’ll head off on foot with a local English-speaking guide to explore the narrow streets and alleyways of this atmospheric area, stopping at family-run shops, tiny cafés, street vendors and market stalls to sample their wares and learn about how they’re made. Sip a cup of old-style coffee, the thick and sweet kafae boran; feast on Chinese chive dumplings and succulent roast duck; and try typical sweet treats such as sticky-rice dumplings filled with mung-bean paste. Be sure to leave room for some coconut ice cream, handmade by the same family for generations.

• Duration: half day • Time: 8.30am to 1pm • Daily departures • Operates year round • Group experience

Good to know Suitable for children aged 12 and upwards. The tour includes visits to a temple and shrine, so dress appropriately. Transfers not included

Bangkok’s Floating Market

One of Bangkok’s more colourful attractions, Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is rightly on many visitors’ not-to-be-missed lists. Heading out in the cool of the early morning, you’ll stop at iconic Wat Bang Kung, an ancient temple almost completely surrounded by the roots of a vast banyan tree, to soak up its unique atmosphere and learn about its not-always-peaceful history. From here, you’ll carry on to the floating market itself, which occupies a maze of narrow canals (khlongs) crowded with narrow wooden sampans piled high with produce. You’ll venture out on the water in your own boat, where you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take some superb photos and bargain for typical snacks. Your final destination is the extraordinary Rom Hub Railway Market, whose stalls lie on either side of an active railway track, meaning that the vendors have to pull everything out of the way every time a train goes past - which is quite a sight!

• Duration: half day • Time: 6.30am to 1pm • Daily departures • Operates year round • Private experience

Good to know Not recommended for families with younger children.

River Kwai Highlights In A Day

Symbolising the horrors of World War II in Asia, the bridge on the River Kwai at Kanchanaburi is almost a place of pilgrimage for history buffs, film aficionados and anyone curious about the relatively recent past. On this poignant trip, you’ll learn all about the building of the infamous bridge that was designed to link up a direct railway line from Bangkok to Rangoon (now Yangon) to support the Japanese occupation of Burma (now Myanmar) in 1943. You’ll visit the graves of members of the Allied Forces on a tour of the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, before looking at historical photographs and paintings at the JEATH War Museum, both emotionally moving experiences. To complete your day, you’ll take a memorable ride on the Thailand-Burma Railway itself, also known as the Death Railway because of the thousands of POWs and forced local workers who lost their lives during its construction.

• Duration: full day • Time 6.30am to 6.30pm • Daily departures • Operates year round • Private experience

Good to know The trip is suitable for all ages.

Best time to visit Bangkok

Bangkok has a tropical climate, meaning it is steadily warm and humid throughout the year and prone to rain. The best time to visit Bangkok is November to February which is known as the ‘cool season’. While it’s still warm during the ‘cool season’ with average temperatures of 28⁰C, these are the driest months in Bangkok with only some typical sporadic shows expected and pleasant conditions for city sightseeing and combining with Phuket, Khao Lak and Krabi on the west coast. From March to June, temperatures rise to average highs of 34⁰C and the heat combined with the intense humidity can be too much for some. The start of the south-west monsoon season in May brings more frequent showers which can provide temporary relief from the heat. Lasting until October, the monsoon season usually means humid weather with an average temperature of 30⁰C and heavy showers. If you don’t mind the rain, there are great offers to enjoy during Thailand’s low season and far fewer crowds. By October, the rain will begin to subside but can still be unpredictable.

Bangkok Weather

Bangkok weather by month.

Bangkok in January January is one of the best, and most popular, months to visit Bangkok. There are around eight hours of sunshine with clear skies and the weather is mostly dry (though there’s always the chance of rain in a tropical climate). Being the ‘cool season’, temperatures are warm at an average of between 25⁰C and 34⁰C. Humidity won’t feel as high either so it’s a great time to go sightseeing before combining with other destinations in Thailand.

Bangkok in February February is another great month in Bangkok and is similar to January, with more pleasant weather and temperatures around 25-34⁰C. We recommended visiting now while it’s still comfortably warm as temperatures begin to rise in March.

Bangkok in March Bangkok begins its hot season in March. Days will start to feel particularly humid and temperatures average around 30⁰C. With rising temperatures and considerably dry weather throughout the country, this is a great month to combine Bangkok with some sunbathing on the beach either in the Gulf of Thailand (Koh Samui and Koh Phangan) or the Andaman Coast (Phuket and Khao Lak).

Bangkok in April April is typically the hottest month in Bangkok. There’s eight hours of sunshine and it will feel humid with more rain expected – around 110mm in the month. It’s recommended to keep well hydrated as days can get sweltering with highs of 37⁰C. The Thai New Year, Songkran, is a three-day national celebration in April, most notably marked by the huge street water fights – a welcome refreshment from the scorching heat.

Bangkok in May May is another hot month in Bangkok. As the start of the rainy season, it is wetter than April with an average of 180mm of rain. May continues to be intensely humid and average temperatures fall between 27⁰C and 35⁰C. The beginning of Thailand’s low season brings plenty of great offers and fewer crowds, so a short stopover in Bangkok can be combined with sunshine and little rain on east coast islands like Koh Samui.

Bangkok in June Bangkok in June is rainy and humid with similar conditions to May. There are six hours of sunshine and 180mm of rainfall. Days feel hot with average highs of 33⁰C and there are still good-value offers to take up. Islands in the Gulf of Thailand like Koh Samui still have hot and mostly dry weather if you’re mainly after a beach break during the school holidays.

Bangkok in July In July, Bangkok is rainy and humid with a slight drop in temperature and five hours of sunshine. Showers are likely but often come in short, sharp downpours, with periods of rain getting longer as you approach August. Beaches on the east coast still have good weather in July if you’re combining Bangkok with Koh Samui or Koh Phangan.

Bangkok in August There’s plenty of humidity and rain in Bangkok in August. It’s the middle of the wet season, so rainfall can be expected throughout the month both in light spells and heavy downpours. Bangkok welcomes tourists throughout the year and the wet season is still a good time for a leisurely stopover, especially as the tropical rain more often falls in bursts rather than all day. If you don’t mind the weather, you can make the most of your hotel’s facilities spa with a massage or do some shopping in one of Bangkok’s modern shopping centres.

Bangkok in September Bangkok in September is usually the wettest month of the year with 220mm of rainfall. Temperatures are still warm at 29⁰C and while Bangkok’s attractions are always busy, the crowds are considerably smaller thanks to the inclement weather.

Bangkok in October October marks the end of the wet season in Bangkok. There’s a strong risk of rain throughout the month although the weather is more unpredictable. Each day can bring anything from bright blue skies to grey clouds and torrential rain. For those who don’t mind chancing the weather, there’ll be plenty of great-value accommodation as the low season ends.

Bangkok in November Bangkok in November is noticeably drier at the start of the cool season. There’s just 40mm of rainfall and an average temperature of 28⁰C. It’s a great time to visit Bangkok as there’s eight hours of sunshine and generally skies are clear and bright. If you’re looking for a city and beach multi-centre, Khao Lak and Phuket off the Andaman Coast are also starting their dry season so there are fewer showers and warm weather of around 29⁰C.

Bangkok in December December is another excellent month to visit Bangkok. There are nine hours of sunshine and minimal rainfall at 10mm. You can expect great weather throughout most of Thailand, making it a great and popular time to visit most of the country, particularly Northern Thailand, Phuket, Khao Lak and Krabi.

The Best Time to Visit Bangkok

SD › Bangkok Best Time to Visit Updated: March 2, 2024 By Santorini Dave

  • Where to Stay in Bangkok
  • Best Hotels for Families in Bangkok

When is the best time to visit Bangkok?

I like visiting Bangkok any time of year. It’s busy year-round and always lots to do. If you have the opportuniy to go then I say just go and figure out the weather when you get there. That said for the best chances of getting good dry weather I’d recommend going between December and February. These months are great for sightseeing without being bothered by the heat and humidity.

Me and my kids in Bangkok, Thailand.

Me and my two sons riding the Skytrain in Bangkok. (I highly recommend staying close to the Skytrain.)

When I Recommend Visiting Bangkok

  • Best Time to Book Hotels for Bangkok : The Best Hotels in Bangkok and the Best Hotels for Families in Bangkok should be booked 1 to 2 months in advance. Except for late December and January when booking 3 months prior to travel is recommended.
  • Best Time for Sightseeing : Bangkok is busy year-round, which means no matter what season you arrive, you’re bound to have to battle the crowds, though there are times that are worse than others. One of the my favorite festivals of the year is Songkran (Thai New Year), which takes place in mid-April, bringing especially lively crowds (my kids love the water fights), while Christmas and the New Year holidays also see a big increase in visitors to the city. While it won’t make a huge difference, late November and early December may be the best time to visit Bangkok, when the city is drying out from the monsoon season and experiencing a slight cool down, and the holiday crowds have yet to arrive. September and October are Bangkok’s (and Thailand’s) rainiest months. The best weather for Thailand’s beaches and islands are December to March, so if you’re combining Bangkok with a visit to one of the southern islands then this is best time for sunny, dry weather. More important than time of year when visiting Bangkok, try to visit the most popular attractions early in the morning for the smallest crowds, coolest temperatures, and best experience.

Best Time To Visit Bangkok, Thailand for sunny weather and outdoor activities,.

The best time to visit Bangkok for good weather and comfortable sightseeing is from late November to early February.

  • Best Time for Shopping : By far, the best time for shopping in Bangkok is from mid-June through mid-August when the “Amazing Grand Sale” takes place. Shops offer discounts of 10 to an incredible 80 percent on items like clothes, electronic items, jewelry and more, allowing shoppers to stock up on dream purchases at a fraction of the price. No matter when you’re in the city, timing is crucial when it comes to shopping. Bangkok markets are best to visit in the morning or evening when it’s slightly cooler and often less frantic. Save the air-conditioned malls for the peak heat of the day. You may want to avoid traveling around the city during morning and evening rush hours, from 07:30 to 0:900 and again from 17:00 to 18:30.
  • Best Time to Visit the Grand Palace : The Grand Palace is Bangkok’s No. 1 must-see attraction, receiving millions of tourists annually, which means it’s almost always crowded; however, there are times when you can enjoy it in relative peace. Your best bet is to come early in the morning during the peak of rainy season, from about mid-June through mid-September. Be at the entrance by about 8:15am, just before the 8:30am opening time to get inside first. Start at Wat Phra Kaeo, before the famous temple is packed with tourists. If you can’t arrive early, the next best option is mid-afternoon, after most tourists and groups exit around 2:30pm. The worst time to visit is during peak periods like Songkran in mid-April, as well as Christmas and New Year holidays.
  • Best Time to Visit Chinatown : Chinatown is Bangkok’s most chaotic, colorful district, and a little city in its own right. Many feel the crowds are what make it so exciting, and visiting around the Chinese New Year in late January or early February is when Chinatown is at its best. The area hosts exciting dragon parades, firecrackers and dancing in the streets. You’ll find lots of energy here year long, day or night, though after dark is more vibrant, with sidewalks turning into street restaurants, and the opportunity to taste some of the best street food on the planet.
  • High Season (November through March) : While Bangkok is busy and hot year round, there are slight differences between the seasons when it comes to weather and crowds. Late fall and winter bring somewhat cooler and drier weather, while crowds are at their peak, particularly around the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.  It’s virtually impossible to explore the city without rubbing shoulders with fellow tourists during this time, and the outdoor beer bars will be packed with them. Expect prices to rise steeply and accommodation to fill up quickly. Booking ahead becomes essential during these months, which can take some of the spontaneity away from your holiday.
  • Shoulder Season (April through June, September and October) : While the crowds may not be as thick during shoulder season, April through June are Bangkok’s hottest months, with April by far the most unpleasant month temperature wise, which means booking an air-conditioned room is really a must. September and October are slightly cooler and wetter. Your reward for going in any of these less-crowded months, is the best opportunity to save a little on both room rates and airfare.
  • Low Season (July and August) : Low season falls during monsoon season, which brings frequent but usually short bouts of intense rain. Many feel this is a great time to visit the city, as it generally offers some of the best deals on hotels and excursions. Off-season weather isn’t intolerable, and the trade-off of significant savings and more elbow room is likely to be worth the bit of discomfort. When it rains, tourists can enjoy the wide range of indoor activities, like visiting temples, aquariums and entertainment complexes as well as the numerous shopping opportunities.

Bangkok Weather

  • Bangkok Weather in January : This area of Asia has a tropical climate with hot, humid weather year round. While winter is slightly cooler than the other seasons, it still brings plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures. The average high temperature in January is 27°C, and there is little rain to cool things off as January is one of Bangkok’s driest months, with an average of just 10mm of rain coming down over two days. At all times of the year in Bangkok, you’ll want to pack light clothing made from natural fibers like cotton, or moisture-wicking synthetics. As you’ll need protection from the sun, and clothing like shorts and tank tops aren’t appropriate for the city, particularly in the temples and palaces, loose and light long pants and comfortable, short-sleeve tops are ideal. A wide-brimmed hat is important to avoid burning in the intense sunshine. As you’ll be going in and out of highly air-conditioned environments, including taxis, the Skytrain, malls and hotels, bring a cardigan or something to wrap around your shoulders to avoid a chill as well. (Average Max Temperature: 27°C. Average Precipitation: 10mm.)
  • Bangkok Weather in February : February is similar to January, and considered the last “cool” month until November, though the average high temperature creeps up a degree to 29°C. The rain is still at a minimum, with an average of just 10mm coming down over three days of rain. Pack as you would for January, and always keep in mind that the soaring temperatures, which are much higher than most other parts of the world at this time of year, can result in heatstroke. Drink plenty of water and duck into air-conditioned malls or other areas to take a break from the heat. (Average Max Temperature: 29°C. Average Precipitation: 30mm.)
  • Bangkok Weather in March : March is slightly warmer than February, with the average high climbing up to 30°C. Rainfall is still rare, though there’s a bit more than the two previous months with an average of 30mm over five days of rain. It’s typically hot and muggy, which means you‘ll need to avoid spending too much time in the direct heat, or risk dehydration and even heatstroke. The heat can be oppressive during the day, so much so that sightseeing can become unpleasant, which means planning indoor trips during peak daylight areas and booking an air-conditioned room that you can find relief in, particularly if you’re sensitive to the heat. (Average Max Temperature: 30°C. Average Precipitation: 30mm.)
  • Bangkok Weather in April : April is the hottest month in Bangkok, with the average high a sizzling 32°C – and, sometimes it can soar to around 37°C, making things especially miserable. With the humidity at around 70%, it can feel extremely muggy and sticky combined with the higher temperatures. Now more than ever, you’ll need plenty of protection from the sun, including slathering on high SPF sunscreen, wearing a wide-brimmed hat and taking regular breaks from the heat. Drink plenty of water too, as this is the month when more people are reported to suffer from fatigue and heatstroke. There is also slightly more rain in April, with an average of 70mm of rainfall over 10 days, but not enough to damper plans or cool things off. (Average Max Temperature: 32°C. Average Precipitation: 70mm.)
  • Bangkok Weather in May : May marks the start of the monsoon season, bringing some relief from the sweltering heat of April. It will still be quite warm, with an average high temperature of 32°C, and, when combined with the rain, the humidity can be excruciatingly intolerable, though the rains do help cool things off a bit. It is quite wet this month, with 190mm of rainfall on average coming down over 17 days. Expect to see some flooding in Bangkok during the first few weeks of May as the drains, clogged from dry season debris, tend to get blocked. Especially toward the end of the month, the rain tends to come down in buckets, but don’t bother to bring a raincoat as it will be far too hot to wear it. Instead, carry a small, portable umbrella and be prepared to remove your shoes and wade if necessary. (Average Max Temperature: 32°C. Average Precipitation: 190mm.)
  • Bangkok Weather in June : The monsoon rains have now arrived, with rainfall and temperatures similar to May, though the mercury does dip down a degree to an average high of 31°C. Plan for scorching heat and humidity as you would for last month, bringing plenty of loose, lightweight and protective clothing, along with a small umbrella. As with all months of the year, packing a cardigan or something to wrap around your shoulders if it gets too cool in air-conditioned areas is also a good idea. (Average Max Temperature: 31°C. Average Precipitation: 150 mm.)
  • Bangkok Weather in July : July is low season, a time when it’s very humid and very rainy. There is a steady rise in rainfall and a very slight drop in daily average temperatures that will continue on a monthly basis through to September, though this month the average high remains a very hot 31°C. While there is still an average of 180mm of precipitation in July, it comes down over 19 days, increasing the odds of experiencing at least a few rainy days while you’re here this month. Once again, pack light clothing and an umbrella, but keep in mind that the rain tends to come in short bursts, rarely lasting more than 30 minutes. (Average Max Temperature: 31°C. Average Precipitation: 160 mm.)
  • Bangkok Weather in August : Temperatures remain hot – nearly identical to those of July. Expect to see street flooding in Bangkok this month, particularly after a torrential downfall. The humidity is high too, averaging at 74%, so expect to feel sticky and sweaty, though you won’t have to worry about bumping elbows with other travelers as much. As before, an umbrella is a must and you’ll need to be prepared to take off your shoes and wade occasionally in addition to taking breaks in the shade to get away from the intense heat of the sun. (Average Max Temperature: 30°C. Average Precipitation: 190mm.)
  • Bangkok Weather in September : September is the wettest month of the year in Bangkok, with 290mm coming down on average over 22 days of rain. Although autumn is approaching, you’re unlikely to ever feel cool, though the average high is slightly cooler than August at 29°C. Basically, you can expect lots of rain, occasional sunshine and unpleasant humidity this month. The downpours are usually quite heavy, but also short, making it easy to duck into a mall or café until it clears. Pack lots of loose, lightweight and protective clothing that dries quickly, high SPF sunscreen and a portable umbrella, along with a light cardigan for cooler indoor spots. (Average Max Temperature: 29°C. Average Precipitation: 290mm.)
  • Bangkok Weather in October : In October, the rain begins to get lighter, and as the month progresses, Bangkok will say goodbye to the rainy season. There will be plenty of rain, but by mid-month the wet season is in full retreat. If it was a particularly wet one, there may still be some flooding in the city; however, that doesn’t happen every year. The sun will be shining brightly most of the time, with the average high temperature the same as it was last month, at 29°C. Pack as you would for September to be prepared for rain and sun. (Average Max Temperature: 29°C. Average Precipitation: 210mm.)
  • Bangkok Weather in November : The rainy season has ended, and locals are now preparing to deal with the “cold,” with average highs of 28°C, though temperatures often hover around the mid-20s Celsius. There is very little rain, with just 60mm coming down on average over five days in November. This is when the city is often at its most pleasant, though you’ll still need protection from the sun in the form of sunscreen, as well as loose, lightweight clothing. As the nights are relatively cool, with lows around an idyllic 22°C, there’s a more happening nightlife too. (Average Max Temperature: 28°C. Average Precipitation: 60mm.)
  • Bangkok Weather in December : December is Bangkok’s driest month, with just 9mm of rain, which means there is a good chance you won’t experience any at all while you’re here. This is the height of tourist season, and the coolest time of the year with average high temperatures still at 27°C, though lows dip down to 20°C, making for especially comfortable evenings as well as bringing the peak of the city’s nightlife. As always, you’ll need light, loose clothing and sunglasses as well as a cardigan for indoors, but you’re unlikely to need that umbrella. (Average Max Temperature: 27°C. Average Precipitation: 10mm.)

Bangkok Events and Festivals by Month

Bangkok events in january.

  • New Year’s Day – New Year’s Day, January 1, is a public holiday in Thailand. While it may be a little quieter as some residents visit their local temple to make merit, the shops and malls remain open and only government offices and banks will be closed.

Bangkok Events in February

  • Valentine’s Day – Valentine’s Day, February 14, isn’t a public holiday, but in a country where public displays of affection are frowned upon and many are shy about love, it offers the opportunity to send a card or ask someone to dinner. Most of the city’s top restaurants and bars host special romantic evenings and themed events.
  • Makha Bucha Day – This public holiday and important Buddhist lunar festival is observed throughout Thailand on the full moon night of the third lunar month. In the evening, Thai people join candlelit processions around temples to celebrate the day Buddha gave a sermon to 1,250 enlightened devotees. • Kin Jay Vegetarian Festival – For nine days each year during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar (typically late September/October), a large portion of Thailand’s population eat exclusively vegan foods in observation of the Chinese cleansing festival. While some serve non-vegetarian dishes, most are completely vegetarian during the length of the festival.
  • Chulalongkorn Day – Every year on October 23, Thai people celebrate the life and reign of King Chulalongkorn on the anniversary of his death in 2010. On this public holiday, many people bring offering in front of his statues, or portraits, in hopes of having their prayers answered.

Bangkok Events in November

  • World Film Festival of Bangkok – Held in early November, this festival screens more than 80 international films, including works from the European Union Film Festival, Latin America, Asia and Southeast Asia and included short films, experimental films, documentaries and animation productions.
  • Beer Garden Festival – This is Thailand’s answer to Germany’s Oktoberfest. November is the start of the country’s annual beer garden season, where tables and chairs are brought out onto the street and Singha, Heineken, and a host of other beers are available on tap. While it’s a nationwide event, it’s most prevalent in the capital. Food stalls, live bands and practically an endless list of different beers can be found at plazas, bar strips and malls like Central World.
  • Loy Krathong Festival – One of the most picturesque festivals in Bangkok happens on the first full moon day of November. In the evening, Thai people buy or make a krathong, which is like a small boat made of banana tree and banana leaves, with flowers and a candle in the middle. They then gather around lakes, rivers and canals to pay respects to the goddess of water by releasing their beautiful rafts in order to wash away sins. The sight of the thousands of flickering lights is truly magical, and there are many spots throughout the city to get involved or simply watch the festivities. The main Loy Krathong celebration in Bangkok has been held at Asiatique in recent years.

Bangkok Events in December

  • Trooping of the Colours – This impressive event is held on December 1, a few days before the King’s Birthday. Inspired by the British Army’s Trooping of the Colours ceremony, in this event, members of the three armed forces, the Royal Thai Navy, the Royal Thai Army, and the Royal Thai Air Force, together with the royal guards, all don colorful uniforms specific to their regimens and plumed hats, and declare the oath of allegiance while marching in unison before the King and Queen and members of the Royal Family. As locals often arrive as early as mid-afternoon to get a seat around the Royal Plaza, if you want to attend you’ll need to go early and wear modest attire.
  • The King’s Birthday – On this celebration, held annually on December 5, visitors have the chance to witness the adoration and reverence the Thai people have for their monarch. An impressive display of fireworks are traditionally released near the Grand Palace, and the streets of the city’s center are decorated in his honor. Thousands also light candles after dark, while traditional music and dance is enjoyed into the night.
  • Constitution Day – This public holiday on December 10 commemorates the first constitution of Thailand, which came into effect in 1932. It marks the transformation of Thailand from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. It is traditionally celebrated across Thailand by displaying and paying respect to portraits of Thai kings past and present; it is also common for government offices to be lit up and for civilian and military parades to take place. In Bangkok, a ceremonial procession takes place at the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall.
  • Christmas Day – Christmas Day is a Christian tradition, not celebrated in Thai culture, but as the Thai people enjoy giving gifts to each other, it’s become a commercial and marketing event here, with Christmas trees found in shopping centers rather than living rooms. Bangkok’s infamous high-end, sky-scraping shopping centers and luxury hotels showcase Christmas trees and dazzling lights that become an attraction of their own. There are Christmas services on December 25 at area Christian churches, though the holiday is more about shopping, food and drink here.
  • New Year’s Eve – Bangkok is one of Asia’s biggest party hubs, so you’ll find a wide variety of options when it comes to celebrating the coming year, including everything from the colorful New Year countdown with thousands in Central World Square to wild parties at swanky clubs and private river cruises along the Chao Praya River which hosts a huge fireworks display. Khao San Road is always a fun and lively spectacle during New Years Eve.

About Santorini Dave

Santorini Dave Author Bio.

For me the best time to go in Bangkok is around second week of April because that’s the time they celebrate their Songkran festival. Its fun, wild and you get to meet a lot of people in the street. You can shoot or throw water at everyone.

' src=

Agreed. Songkran is one of the funnest holidays anywhere. If visitors have the chance get a water gun and partake in the fun. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui are good places for Songkran for it but anywhere really is going to be great.

' src=

You may want to consider the air pollution in Bangkok, which is extremely bad starting in November and lasting through April. The worst months are the coolest, December, January and February, where the pollution becomes some of the worst in the world. If you are concerned with your health, then it may be advisable to not visit during these months. Jim Shorts

Thanks for your perspective Jim. I haven’t found this myself. I notice the poor air quality more on visits in the warm wet months of May to August. But my visits are usually a week or shorter. Perhaps you’ve had more (or at least different) experiences than me. Thanks again for the info.

Thank you for all this awesome information! It seems folks often avoid March when recommending the best times to visit Thailand. It seems to me that March might be a nice time to visit with lower prices than January\February and fewer crowds. What am I missing? Is March much hotter? Good time for the beach? Thank you!

I think March is great. It is starting to get a bit hotter but still pleasant. Lots of sun, little rain. The islands are not as busy as peak months.

Will be spending a week in Bangkok and Thailand as part of a journey around SE Asia. When would you say is the best month to visit Bangkok and do the highlights/sightseeing?

It will depend on what’s more important to you, the weather or avoiding crowds and getting off-season rates at hotels. Bangkok is one of the hottest cities in the world with temps averaging in the low 90s F (33 C), but December, January, and early February are usually slightly cooler and there’s the least chance of rain at that time. These months are also some of the busiest so you’d want to book hotels in advance and prices are their highest. Shoulder dry season at the end of October or late April, is often a great time to visit since prices drop along with the crowds, although there can still be some heavy rain (in October) and high temperatures (in April). You can luck out and have beautiful weather during these months although the weather in Bangkok, as it is everywhere, is unpredictable.

Another thing to think about is Chinese New year which falls on January 28th and Songkran (Thai New Year) on April 13-15th this coming year. Both these holdiays/festivals will draw lots of crowds and raise prices but with parades, special food, water fights (for Songkran) and more, it can be an incredibly rich and memorable time to visit the city.

Best Time to Visit Bangkok

Best time to visit bangkok.

The weather in Bangkok is tropical. The country has three main seasons namely summer which extends from March to June, the monsoon or rainy season from July to October and the relatively cooler winter season which runs from November to February.

The winter is the best time to visit Bangkok. The days tend to be cooler and the evenings much more pleasant. If one is looking to spend time at the beaches or taking a boat cruise, then summer is possibly the best time to visit though bear in mind it can get beastly hot.

The monsoon season is not the best time to visit for a variety of reasons, primary amongst these the bouts of torrential rain which can take apart any itinerary one has drawn up. Shopping is the one activity that can best be enjoyed at this time though.

Bangkok in March to June

Temperature: 30 – 40 degrees

Bangkok's hottest time is between March and May, when temperatures soar as high as 40 degrees. The average temperature stays in the mid 30s for the entire season, though the months of May and June start getting showers which offer some respite from the intense heat. During the ‘Hot Season’, boat cruises, mall shopping, rooftop bars and lounging on the beach or by the pool come highly recommended to escape the intense Bangkok weather. It will still be quite warm, with an average high temperature of 32°C, and, when combined with the rain, the humidity can be excruciatingly intolerable, though the rains do help cool things off a bit. April by far the most unpleasant month temperature wise.

Significance:

This is when the Thai New Year, Songkran, takes place and the country embarks on a three-day water fight. While many go away for the vacation those who stay celebrate with high velocity water guns, buckets and hoses to spray water as part of huge water fights. Tourists and businessmen are often the top targets.

Visakha Bucha, the holiest of all Buddhist holidays is also commemorated on the full-moon day of the sixth lunar month which normally falls in May. On this public holiday, Thai Buddhists visit the temple to make merit in addition to making an extra effort to uphold the Five Precepts of Buddhist teachings

Why you should visit now:

While external activity and sightseeing is not recommended during this season, the popular “Amazing Grand Sale” commences in June and sees large crowds.  Shopaholics would definitely see June as the best month to visit Bangkok. Also in the middle of March The Bangkok International Fashion Week is held. This five-day event showcases a variety of products, including clothing and cosmetics, jewellery, leather products, bridal and handicrafts and generally takes place at the Impact Exhibition & Convention Center.

If you love sea food and crabs in particular then this is the best time to visit too. The annual Crab Festival held at Central Plaza Rama in the middle of June offers the chance to taste fresh crab from Bang Khun Thian, a sea side district of Bangkok. It also features a number of exhibitions, including international cooking demonstrations.

Given you have the requisite skin protection, it is also a great time to loll on the beach and get a great tan in this season.

Know before you visit:

With the heat being extremely oppressive, from an activities perspective it is highly suggested you stay indoors. Some things you could do include visiting temples, aquariums and entertainment complexes aside from shopping.

With lesser crowds visiting the tariffs on rooms as well as other services tends to be much less and you can strike some good deals.

Further on Visakha Bucha, many bars and clubs are closed for the day, and the few that do remain open keep the music at lower levels and only serve alcohol in a very discreet manner.

Tips:

More important than time of year when visiting Bangkok, try to visit the most popular attractions early in the morning for the smallest crowds, coolest temperatures, and best experience.

In such oppressive heat protection from the sun is critical. Take as much sunscreen as you can. While minimal clothing is good, shorts and tank tops aren’t appropriate for the city, particularly in the temples and palaces - loose and light long pants and comfortable, short-sleeve tops are the way to go.

Ensure you have an air conditioned room – the cooling is much wanted after being out in the heat. The heat can be oppressive during the day, so ensure if you want to do any sightseeing or trips, you do these in the late afternoons or early evenings particularly if your skin is sensitive to the heat.

Also ensure you take regular breaks from the heat and intake a large amount of fluids.

Bangkok in July to October

Temperature: 26 - 34 degrees

Also called the Low Season, the monsoon occurs between July and October. Low reflects the mood and this is because of the largely due to the wet and humid weather in Bangkok. While it is is still hot, the city is also prone to bouts of rain, which why this is not the best season even more so if you are looking for a beach holiday.

Typically on a monsoon day there can be light rain, torrential 30-minute showers, with a mix of clear skies and overcast days with little to no rain. September and October are Bangkok’s rainiest months.

While the monsoon can play havoc with plans and movement, given the relative paucity of crowds it can be a great time to visit sites a little more peacefully.

July is also the month for the famous Pattaya marathon.

The off-season weather isn’t completely intolerable, and the trade-off of considerable savings for more elbow room is likely to be worth the bit of discomfort.

The Grand Palace is Bangkok’s No. 1 must-see attraction, drawing millions of tourists annually. During the monsoon however, there are times when you can enjoy it in relative peace. A good idea is to come early in the morning during the peak of the rainy season.

By far, this is also the best time for shopping in Bangkok.  The “Amazing Grand Sale” of Bangkok is at its peak in July and August. Shops offer discounts between 10 and 80 percent on a variety of items including clothes, electronic items and jewellery allowing shoppers to stock up on dream purchases at a fraction of the price.

There are some important festivals and occasions that also take place in September. These include the Chinese Mid-Autumn Moon Festival and the International Festival of Dance and Music. The former is an exciting time for food lovers. Chinatown is filled with food stalls promoting mooncakes in every possible flavour. The International Festival is Bangkok’s largest annual arts festival featuring top or second-tier opera, classical music, dance, ballet and jazz in a star-studded program.

Know before you visit:

Expectedly given the erratic weather, there again are not too many crowds, putting on offer some of the best deals on hotels and excursions.

Like in summer, when it rains heavily, tourists can enjoy a wide range of indoor activities or just continue shopping.

Asana Bucha and Khao Pansa are two important Thai Buddhist holidays that fall next to each other in July. Asahara Bucha commemorates the day Buddha preached his first sermon to his five first disciples, while Khao Pansa is the beginning of the Buddhist Lent, when the monks’ three-month rainy reason retreat starts and alcohol is banned all day. Lay people too abstain from cigarettes, alcohol or meat. A Buddhist Lent Festival takes place, featuring celebrants that make huge candles and parade them through the streets along with floats depicting scenes from Buddhist and Hindu mythology.

Bangkok in November to February

Temperature: 23 - 39 degrees

The best weather in Bangkok is experienced between November and February. These are the ‘cool months’ when discovering the city by foot will not result in drowning perspiration. During the evenings at this time of year temperatures have been known to drop to around 22 degrees Celsius.

There is very little rain during this season. This is when the city is often at its most pleasant, though you may still need protection from the sun in the form of sunscreen, as well as loose, lightweight clothing. December is Bangkok’s driest month, with just 9 mm of rain. As always, you’ll need light, loose clothing and sunglasses as well as a jacket or a cardigan for indoors, but you can do away with that umbrella.

Significance:

This is peak tourist season, and the coolest time of the year. There’s a more happening nightlife too.

The season is extremely festive. Aside from Christmas and New Year which are celebrated with a lot of reverence and gusto, the World Film Festival of Bangkok is held in early November. The festival screens more than 80 international films from across the globe. Add to that, the Beer Garden Festival which marks the start of the country’s annual beer garden season, where tables and chairs are brought out onto the street and Singha, Heineken, and a host of other beers are available on tap. Food stalls, live bands and a humungous variety of beers can be found at plazas, bars and malls. There is also Loy Krathong Festival which is one of the most picturesque festivals in Bangkok taking place on the first full moon day of November, In the evening, Thai people buy or make a krathong, which is like a small boat made of banana tree and banana leaves, with flowers and a candle in the middle. They then gather around lakes, rivers and canals to pay respects to the goddess of water.

The weather is obviously the key reason. While it won’t make a huge difference, late November and early December is the best time to visit Bangkok, when the city is drying out from the monsoon season and experiencing a slight cool down, and the holiday crowds have yet to arrive.

The best weather for Thailand’s beaches and islands are December to March. Combining Bangkok with a visit to one of the southern islands would be a good idea at this time.

Chinatown which is Bangkok’s most chaotic, colourful district, and a little city in its own right is definitely worth a visit. Around the Chinese New Year in late January or early February is when Chinatown is at its best.

In this season, particularly from the second half of December onwards, it is virtually impossible to explore the city without banging into several other tourists and the outdoor beer bars are packed with them.

Tips :

Prices across the board rise steeply and accommodation and all else fills up quickly. It is imperative to book well in advance.

Therefore, given below is some crucial information about the best time to visit Thailand , Bangkok.

Peak Season

The months from November to February are known as the high/peak season in Bangkok for tourism. Any time during this period can be the best month to visit Bangkok for tourists. It is the time when spring is ending and winter is set to begin. Most of the tourist attractions are usually crowded during this period, also because of Christmas and New Year. If you are planning to visit during the peak season, make sure to reserve your flight tickets, holiday packages and accommodation in advance.

Shoulder Season

The months between March and June, September and October are seen as the shoulder season in Bangkok. It may not be the best time to go to Bangkok , but a good time to avoid crowds in the city. The weather remains wet as rain is frequent during these months. Carry your rainwear and other essentials if you are visiting Bangkok during this time. Prices at restaurants will be cheaper and you will easily find indoor places available at cheaper rates.

The months of July and August mark the offseason in Bangkok . The weather remains cold, humid and wet for most parts of the day. Rainfall may also occur during this period. August is the best month to visit Bangkok if you are looking for a budget holiday. There is less crowd in most of the famous tourist attractions so you will have quiet time to enjoy at ease. The Thai New Year also falls during this period, and people enjoy it with a water fight that goes on for three days. Though one may need to stay indoors while visiting Bangkok during this time of the year due to the extreme temperatures, there are many water activities that one can enjoy with friends and family. Boat cruises, shopping in air-conditioned malls and enjoying the Thai cuisine at rooftop bars and lounges are some of the best things to do in Bangkok during the summer season.

Monsoon Season in Bangkok

This season in Bangkok falls between July and October. This is the leanest tourist season in Bangkok because of the hot and humid weather. Written By: The Planet D

Updated On: July 22, 2023

Krabi Province is our favorite destination in Thailand. With so many things to do in Krabi, it has taken us several visits to see it all! This beautiful southern province of Thailand packs a huge punch with beautiful natural limestone cliffs, mangrove forests, and more than 150 islands in the Andaman Sea.

No trip to Thailand would be complete without adding Krabi to your itinerary. Once you see everything that Krabi has to offer, you’ll be itching to go to Thailand .

Table of Contents

Best Things to Do in Krabi Thailand

The first half of this post of the best things to do in Krabi post will start in the islands and then we will head to the mainland to showcase all the top sights around Krabi Town. So let’s get started.

1. Rock Climbing in Railay

Things to do in Krabi Deb Rock Climbing

Rock climbing tops our list of the best things to do in Krabi. When we first visited Thailand in 2000, we made a beeline to Railay to go rock climbing in Krabi. It is one of the best places in the world to learn how to rock climb.

Rock climbers of all levels are drawn to the more than 300 climbing routes up its limestone cliffs. Whenever we go back we make a point to go rock climbing in Railay. We’ve climbed with King Climbers and Hot Rocks and both are professional and affordable. Take a top rope rock climbing excursion with them for a day or learn how to lead climb on a multiday rock climbing course.

A lot of companies offer climbing course to Railay, but book with the companies that have been there forever there are a few on the island.

Where to Stay in Railay – We have stayed at many different hotels in Railay. It is a small destination that is easy to walk to most places, so it really doesn’t matter where you choose. It all depends on your budget. Railay Bay Resort & Spa is a personal favourite for an upscale stay and Diamond Cave is a good mid-range.

2. Railay Beach

things to do in krabi - railay beach

Railay houses some of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand . After you have had an adventure rock climbing, chill out on Railay Beach for a few nights. Railay Beach East is the most beautiful to catch some rays or rent a kayak. Railay Beach West is where all the nightlife happens and then you can head over to Phra Nang Beach for some caving.

There are plenty of things to keep you occupied at Railay Beach. Restaurants line the beach for the ultimate chill-out experience and the nightlife goes wild on Railay.

3. Phra Nang Beach

what to do in krabi - phra nang beach cave

Phra Nang Beach is Thailand’s most famous and beautiful beach. With sea caves, warm waters and white sand bookended by two limestone cliffs and sea caves. It attracts day trippers by the hundreds. But when staying on Railay, you have it all to yourself as you go for a walk early in the morning.

When you see it deserted, you’ll understand why it became one of the most popular beaches in Thailand. Looking out from the beach to see the towering rock formations is one of the most beautiful views in the islands.

Phra Nang Cave is a beautiful cave to take in the view as its stalactites frame the scene. At the other end of the beach, you can hike through a massive cave to emerge at the incredible viewpoints of Ralaiy Bay.

Getting to Railay

Railay Beach and Phra Nang Beach can easily be reached by longtail boat from Ao Nang. They are just a 20 minute boat ride away. Boats also run regularly from Krabi Town. The trip is approximately 45 minutes.

4. Ao Nang Beach

fields in ao nang - krabi attractions

When visiting Railay, chances are you will go through the beach town of Ao Nang. We actually stayed once in Ao Nang and commuted to Railay by long-tail boat and it was good fun.

Ao Nang Beach is not as beautiful as Railay Beach but it is a fun place to stay with so many hotels, restaurants, and bars to keep you busy. Plus, there are plenty of excursions from Ao Nang Beach that will take you out on an island tour of Krabi every day.

5. Sea Kayaking 0 Koh Hong Island

things to do in krabi kayaking

One of the best things to do in Krabi is to go kayaking. Take a day trip to Koh Hong Island in Than Bok Khorani National Park. Hong means, room in the center of the island and that is exactly what you’ll see at  Koh Hong. It has a hidden lagoon in its center which is the coolest thing to see.

Paddle through a cave at low tide and come out inside surrounded by limestone cliffs. Phang Nga Bay.

6. Island Hopping

If kayaking isn’t your speed, you can hire a longtail boat to go island hopping for the day to see the beautiful islands that have been featured in Jame Bond and The Beach. There are several day trips that leave from Ao Nang, Railay or Krabi town that will take you out to see the stunning islands of Krabi.

  • Check out these top-rated island hopping tours to see Rope Island and Emerald Cave. Details here.

One of the more off the beaten path things to do in Krabi is to go kayaking at Ao Thalane Bay. It is hard to believe that one province can have so many beautiful places. Phi Phi is an island paradise and is certainly one of the top attractions in Krabi. This is where you’ll find many hotels and beaches and where you can book day tours via longtail boat to surrounding islands.

The main beaches on Koh Phi Phi Don are Tonsai, Long Beach, and Nui Beach. Tonsai is where you’ll also find dive centers, travel agents, and beach bars. Phi Phi Leh is part of the Hat Noppharat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park and is about 30 minutes from Koh Phi Phi Don by boat. It is also where you’ll find the famous Maya Bay.

Maya Bay is one of the best beaches in Thailand that was used as the setting for the Beach. No trip to the Phi Phi islands would be complete without seeing this pristine beach. It is closed to tourists but you can hire a bot to take you to see the limestone cliffs surrounding its white sand beaches. Access to Maya Bay is limited to a few daily visitors so check with your hotel for details.

Ferries and speed boats run regularly from Phuket, Krabi Town, or Koh Lanta. You can book day tours to the Phi Phi Islands from Krabi by speed boat. Details here.

While the best scuba diving in Thailand is on Koh Tao or Koh Samui , Koh Lanta is one of the best places to go scuba diving on the west coast of Thailand. Marine Life to see in these waters are Blacktip reef sharks, sea turtles, seahorses, manta rays and if you time it correctly, whale sharks.

11. Skull Island – Koh Talabeng

One of the coolest things to do in Krabi is to take a kayaking trip to Skull Island. Located about 20 minutes by boat from Koh Lanta, Skull Island is a karst island that looks like a skull. It’s an adventurous day trip involving climbing ropes and tire ladders to explore inside the cave where you get to look out from the eyes of the skull.

You can book tours from your guesthouse or at the beach.

12. Koh Klang

One of the most interesting things to do in Krabi is to take a long tail boat to the island of Koh Klang. It just a few minutes from the town of Krabi but it feels worlds away. The local villagers live a simple life fishing and harvesting rice.

13. Thai Massage

Thai Massage on Beach - pix

I think every single article I’ve written about Thailand includes getting a traditional Thai Massage. It is one of the best things to do in Thailand because they are so cheap and amazing. Where else on earth can you get a daily massage if you like? In Krabi, get a massage on a beach and feel like a millionaire as you relax under palm trees getting those aching muscles worked out.

14. Krabi Town

things to do in Krabi town mascot crab - pix

Krabi Town is the main hub and chances are if you are flying or taking the train from Bangkok to Krabi, you will be entering here. It’s worth sticking around for a couple of days to take in the vibe and it makes a great base to explore all the attractions around Krabi before moving on to the islands.

15. Krabi Town Night Market

things to do in krabi - krabit town night market lanterns at night market thailand

Like every city in Thailand, Krabi has a fantastic night market. One of the best things to do in Krabi Town is to go out at night and do some shopping at the Weekend Night market. This is your chance to try some street food at the many food stalls, munch on pad thai or pick up your Thailand souvenirs.

The  Chao Fah Night Market is the largest market. Other markets to visit include Klong Muang Market, and Ao Nang Market.

16. Khao Khanab Nam Mountains

The most striking landmarks of Krabi are The Khao Khanab Nam Mountains. Known as the gateway to Krabi Town these two mountains stand on either side of the river. Hire a boat to take you on a trip to climb the mountains or explore its caves. Longtail boats can be hired from the Chaofa Pier in Krabi.

17. Thai Cooking Class

things to do in krabi thai cooking class thai food - pix

While in Krabi make sure to take a Thai Cooking class. One of our favorite things to spark memories of Thailand, when we are back in Canada, is to whip up some Thai Food. Go to the local markets to find fresh ingredients and learn to make your favorite Thai food from Thai Curries to spring rolls. We took a cooking class years ago and it was one of the best investments we made during our travels in Thailand.

18. Wat Tham Sua (Tiger Cave Temple)

Krabi isn’t all about natural beauty and outdoor adventures, you can also enjoy cultural experiences in Krabi. Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Sua) is just 3km from Krabi Town and is one of the not to miss things to do in Krabi.

Sitting atop a high cliff, Tiger Cave Temple is a working temple with monks living within a maze of caves. Make sure to climb its 1,272 to see the massive golden Buddha statue and don’t miss the footprint of the Buddha. Tours can be combined with Hot Springs and Emerald Pool on this Jungle Tour.

Another temple to visit in Krabi is the White Temple or Wat Keaw Ko Wararam. It is an easy visit located downtown Krabi, so when you are doing your shopping, be sure to stop by for a photo.

It is one of the most beautiful temples in Krabi Province.

20. Emerald Pool – Thung Teao Forest Natural Park

One of the most popular activities in Krabi is a visit to the Emerald Pool in Thung Teao Forest Natural Park. Another great day trip in Krabi, Thung Teao Forest Natural Park is about an hour from Ao Nang. Take the 2.7 km nature trail to the Emerald Pool, (Aka Crystal Pool) to swim in its crystal clear waters, enjoy the water fall and explore the flora and fauna.

21. Klong Thom Hot Springs – Krabi Hot Springs

bangkok weather best time to visit

It’s not normally at the top of my list of things to do in hot destinations, but the Klong Thom Hot Springs are worth the drive from Krabi Town. Usually combined on a day trip with the Emerald Pool, the Krabi Hot Springs are therapeutic pools that reach 35-40 degrees Celcius. The smooth stone pools are located in the heart of the jungle. Soothe those aching travel muscles with a bit of thermal mineral therapy.

You can book tours to the hot springs with a spa package at GetYourGuide. Full refunds within 24 hours of cancellation.

22. Khao Phanom Bencha National Park

Khao Phanom Bencha National Park - near krabi town things to do in Krabi,

Another jungle escape from Krabi is a visit to Khao Phanom Bencha located 30 minutes from Krabi Town. What draws people here? Hiking trails, limestone caves and waterfalls. No trip to Thailand would be complete without visiting a waterfalls. This is less touristy than other locations since it’s a little farther away from it all, so it’s good for people looking for a quiet escape.

23. Shell Cemetery at Susan Hoi

Certainly one of the most unique things to do in Krabi is to visit the Shell Cemetery at Susan Hoi. Dating back 40 million years, this fish cemetery is one of only three of its kind in the world. Located just 17 km from Krabi Town, it contains fossilized shellfish and snails preserved in its rocks.

If getting a great deal is your top priority, the best time to go to Hawaii is during the spring and fall shoulder seasons , provided you book a trip outside of schools' spring and fall breaks. Another time to consider visiting is when kids go back to school in the fall but before the holiday breaks. This is usually the cheapest time to fly to Hawaii, so keep an eye out for deals from your favorite airlines.

Pro tip: Get the best airfare possible by creating airline price alerts that'll let you know when it's the best time to book a flight for a Hawaiian island escape. Apps like Skyscanner and tools like Google Flights price alerts make that easy. Another way to save on your trip to the Aloha State is to fly a budget airline .

When is the weather the best in Hawaii?

Its proximity to the equator means that Hawaii and all its islands enjoy just two seasons: summer and winter. And even the cooler season has unbeatable temps, which reinforces the idea that any time of year is the best time of year to visit Hawaii.

Daytime temperatures at sea level average 85 degrees in the summer (May to October) and 78 degrees in the winter (November through April). When the sun sets, those temps can drop about 10 degrees. Keep in mind that temperatures drop the higher you go in elevation, regardless of the time of year, and the islands have micro-environments ranging from cool alpine regions to hot, sunny beaches. A top packing tip for Hawaii is to keep a light jacket or sweater on hand in case temps dip.

Hurricane season in Hawaii runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, though crowds still flock to the islands in the summertime. The wettest months are typically November through March, but don't let that stop you from visiting during that time of year. If it's raining where you are, there's a good chance you can find some sun just a few miles down the road.

No matter when you visit Hawaii, be sure to use sunscreen for the duration of your trip to avoid having to rely on sunburn remedies . Yes, even in the winter!

What is the most popular month to go to Hawaii?

According to the Hawaii Tourism Authority , nearly 9.25 million people visited the state in 2022, a 36% increase over 2021's visitation numbers. July saw the most tourists, followed by December. A spokesperson for the authority says the most popular times to visit Hawaii are over school summer breaks (June, July and August), the last two weeks of December, the first week of January and spring breaks.

That said, documented 2022 visitation numbers show that the months with the fewest tourists were January and February, making winter the best time to visit Hawaii if you're hoping to escape the crowds. Oahu is historically the most-visited island, while Lanai and Molokai, which get fewer tourists, are two of the least-crowded islands .

When is the best time to visit Hawaii for whale watching?

Humpback whales migrate to Hawaii during the winter, which makes it the best time to visit Hawaii for travelers hoping to watch breaching whales right from the beach.

"We're in the middle of peak season for the best whale watching in Hawaii, which normally runs between mid-January through early March," says Elijah Smith, a beach ambassador for the Hui Holokai Beach Club at the Fairmont Orchid hotel on the island of Hawaii. "I take guests out on morning canoe adventures every day, and I've had the great fortune of spotting a number of whales breaching within 50 yards of our canoe. It's important to maintain a respectful distance, and it's always a majestic sight to behold. It never gets old."

Want a peek at other sea life? You can see dolphins (and swim with them!) in Hawaii, and you'll catch other underwater creatures through snorkeling and scuba diving adventures.

How many days is enough to visit Hawaii?

Flying to Hawaii takes some time, even when traveling from the West Coast, so be sure to plan enough time to truly enjoy the Aloha State once you arrive. This most likely won't be a quick trip . Determining how many days you'll need for your Hawaii vacation starts with deciding how many (and which) islands to visit.

First-timers can get a good feel for Hawaii with a visit to Oahu, while honeymooners could be content spending a week at one of the most romantic resorts on the island of Hawaii, and adventurers may island hop in search of thrills.

Planning to attend annual festivals—like the statewide King Kamehameha Celebration in June, the Hawaii Food and Wine Festival on the islands of Hawaii, Maui and Oahu in October and November, and the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival on the island of Hawaii in November—could come into play too.
