Development of the tourism sector in Italy from 1995 to 2021. The following chart shows the number of tourist arrivals registered in Italy each year. Until 2005, tourists were defined as anyone who spent at least one night in the country but did not live there for longer than 12 months.
Tourist flow in Italy. The National Institute of Statistics releases data on tourist flows and their features in 2017 from a supply and demand-side perspective. In 2017, around 421 million nights were spent at tourist accommodation establishments (+4.4% compared with the previous year) and arrivals were equal to 123 million (+5.3%).
