Earning my ears.

My wife and I are booked on the October 2012 Hawaiian Cruise. We are not familiar with the L.A. area. Our questions are how far is it between LAX airport and Disneyland Resorts and does Disney have any transportation between Port of Los Angeles and their Disneyland Resorts?

Let the countdown begin!

You can also get transfers to and from the port through DCL at $30 per person each way. Depending on how many are in your party you might want to check out the ExecuCar service from Super Shuttle http://www.supershuttle.com/en/ExecuCar.aspx?Location=ExecuCar http://www.execucar.com/ I put both links in case the first one didn't work.

Dis veteran.

I booked our upcoming trip's transfers on www.gosedan.com part of PrimeTime Shuttle as it was about the same $ for DH and I as the DCL bus. There is no magical express in DL but there is a Disneyland shuttle that runs between LAX and the DL hotels (as well as offsite hotels) I can't remember the cost for that though.

There is quite a bit of information in this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2752784 It is 30-45 minutes from the port to DL, depending on traffic. DCL offers a shuttle from LAX to/from the Port of Los Angeles, from the Port of Los Angeles to/from Disneyland and from Disneyland to/from LAX. The last I checked, it was $30 pp for each leg of the shuttle. By comparison, shuttles like Super Shuttle are in the $17- $20 pp range.

Samantha_Mommy

Mouseketeer.

Super shuttle does shuttles from DL to the port. I got quoted from the Camelot to the port (1A & 1C) $58.00. Haven't made my mind if I will choosing this. I had to call them direct to get this info. I also confirmed with the hotel if they heard of this, they said yes.

www.primetimeshuttle.com is almost always the lowest price. If you want to spend a bit more and get an exclusive ride the GoSedan service is available and you can compare the prices for all the different options all on one screen.

It was $30 to the port. Had horrible experIrnce with PT.

CruznLexi said: It was $30 to the port. Had horrible experIrnce with PT. Click to expand...

We used the DCL transfers from Disneyland to the port and really liked the convenience. We put our luggage outside our room at the Disneyland Hotel that morning and went to the park. We got back to the hotel for our pick-up around noon-ish. Went to the port in comfort, watching Disney videos. Our luggage was later delivered to our stateroom. It was really nice not to have to fool with the luggage. We were doing a Disneyland-repo-1st Alaskan trip, so we were dealing with quite a bit of luggage! It was just really convenient not to have to worry about things.

We will do this for Hawaii we had such a bad experience with PT will gladly wait on DCL the am of the cruise.

Los Angeles Cruise Guide

Disneyland Cruises from Los Angeles

It's easy to pair a visit to Disneyland with a short cruise. Disney doesn't offer official package deals, but you can create your own.

Disneyland is in Anaheim California, only about 30 miles from the port of Los Angeles. Disneyland Park is the original theme park. It is divided into 8 lands -- Main Street, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Mickey's Toontown, Frontierland, Critter Country, New Orleans Square and Adventureland. A few of the famous attractions are Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Matterhorn Bobsleds, It's a Small World, Indiana Jones Adventure, and the Monorail.

The other theme park there is Disney California Adventure Park. It is newer and has 7 lands including Buena Vista Street, Cars Land, Grizzly Peak, Paradise Pier, Pacific Wharf, A Bugs Land, and Hollywood Land. The attractions are based on Disney and Pixar stories.

Stay at an official Disney hotel or at one of the nearby hotels, for 3 or 4 days. Then take a 3-day cruise or 4-day cruise to fill out the rest of your vacation week. Any travel agent can make the arrangements for you.

It is also possible to combine a trip to Disneyland with a real Disney Cruise out of San Diego . The cruise terminal in San Diego is 96 miles from Disneyland; about a 2 hour drive.

Looking for info on options / cost and needed travel time

You can also check the above two companies for private transfer options. For instance SuperShuttle's execucar service shows the trip at about $67 for up to 4 people in a private conveyance.

A taxi with the most direct (but slower) route avoiding the freeways probably in the $80-90 range. Faster route on the freeways over $100.

la cruise port to disneyland

The two main Companies are Prime Time and SuperShuttle for Shared Vans.

Plenty of companies will offer a Private Van.

Castle Inn might have a deal with a specific company.

But I have found it isn't the company, but the driver that makes the difference, and you can't request a specific driver...

Go for the one with the lowest cost that is well known.

I would reconsider staying at the Castle Inn. It has not had consistant good ratings. There are so many other standard places to stay that would offer much better consistantly good ratings for the same cost or less even if you are needing a larger family suite.

Hi happytotrip, I have checked so many sites close to Disney. Most are out of our budget or already booked for our dates of may 17 and 18. We were quoted 401. Taxes in for the suite. My thought was we are only sleeping there for two nights and will not be at the room during the day. But if you have a better option I am open ears.

All of the rest of these places to stay are showing availability for your dates.....

The least expensive options are going to be the Alpine Inn ..... which is a standard Motel, and family run, but very well rated, about a 13 min walk with Art Shuttle at the Desert Palms next door. It has availability for your dates at $79 a night without taxes, but also has a larger 2 bedroom family suite that you need to book directly. Its usually about $109 a night for your dates.

You can also try the Anaheim Plaza Inn...... which is a more basic but clean Motel, about a 9 min walk. The have connecting rooms that are family suites that would be close to your budget, and offer a AAA discount if you have some form of AAA where you live. They would be around $60 more total than the Castle Inn.

The Anaheim Islander Inn.... also a standard well rated Motel about a 14 min walk with Art shuttle has thier larger 2 bedroom family suite for $336 total.

Any of these place to stay would be better Imo than the Castle Inn.

Thanks ill check them out

Thank you to all my forum friends I did get a reservation at the BW. They are partners with air-miles and I was able to get a great rate. Now I can focus on the fun things to do for two days .

Getting to Disneyland from Princess Cruise Port

By DnA2010 , June 20, 2018 in California Coastal / Pacific Northwest

Cool Cruiser

just wondering if anyone has headed to Disneyland after a cruise and can give me an idea of how long it takes, what option they went with etc. Looks like husband and I are going to book a short 4 day cruise from Vancouver to LA on Princess in October, and I'm thinking we should do one crazy Disney day before we fly home. This is a trip without our kids so just would do one day.

Thanks so much!

A couple of years ago we visited San Pedro as a port/day stop and decided to visit Disneyland. I googled Car Services for Disneyland and found a company called "Affordable Car Service" (Or something like that). They charged us $170 USD for transport from the ship, to Disneyland and return to the ship. We put the call out on our roll call and split the fare with another couple.

The drive to Disneyland was just over 40 minutes - when I was planning this I got tons of comments about how bad the traffic would be and I better have a back-up plan just in case... didn't need it at all. The return to the ship was also about 40 minutes. The driver took great advantage of HOV lanes.

There are also shuttle companies that will pick up from the San Pedro and drop off in Anaheim (Super Shuttle) and there is also Uber. Try googling and see what you find - going to Disneyland post cruise in definitely doable.

For your flight back, you may want to consider John Wayne Airport - a little closer that LAX and I believe Westjet still offers direct flights.

  • 2 weeks later...

I live about 8 miles from Disneyland. I would not try to visit Disneyland and fly out the same day. If you are going to stay overnght this is very doable. You would need to make arrangements for your luggage, so maybe Super Shuttle can take you to your hotel room near Disneyland. Then drop off the luggage and head over. Be prepared for a LOT of people at Disneyland. That place is packed to the gills every day.

Lucky you! We are Disney fans so try to visit every couple of years :)

We aren’t concerned about luggage, we are only going on a 4 day cruise, so will pack carry ons, and Disney has large lockers we can store them in (we’ve used them)

Agree with you on the crowds, we’ve def seen an increase in numbers, we were just there in May and the crowds were BIG.

How long do you think it will take for us to self carry off the ship and be at Disneyland? What t8me do you think we could get there?

What day of the week, time of year? On a weekend, it's 40 minutes tops probably, on a weekday at 8:30AM, up to double that.

I'd use Uber or Lyft.

John Wayne (SNA) is closer, but LAX will have more options. SNA's last flight is 10PM.

I am wondering what time to have a car service pick me up after disembarking as we are heading to Disneyland for a few days post cruise.  We do not want to do any express or rush disembarking, just the regular disembark time.  What time will that put us off the ship?

Any ideas what time to have a car service pick us up?

Last disembarkation is probably around 10:30AM. You can have a car service meet you at 11-11:15AM, or just call an Uber when you get outside the terminal.

Thanks for your reply, I'm not looking for the latest possible time...just like a reasonable time...I guess I was somewhat unclear when I said I didn't want to rush.  I know there are "express" or "speedy" type disembarkatioins for people with early flights and stuff like that which we would not need.

I know on all previous cruises I've been on(Disney, RCCL, Carnival) we have disembarked around 8am without any rushing, I was wondering if it was about the same on Celebrity.

Could we reasonably expect to be off the ship by 8am?

8AM would be one of the early times, you might have to request that time to get it I think. Normally they space out the times over several groupsl

Thanks for the great info!  Can you tell me how disembarking works on Celebrity?  We have never cruised them before and just assumed that once they give the all clear you are permitted to exit the ship...is this not the case?

I'm a Princess and NCL cruiser these days mostly. I haven't been on Celebrity for at least 15 years. You might try the boards for your ship.

I don't know if it is a function of the San Pedro DHS or the ships, but every time I've disembarked the last 5 years at least it has been in groups spaced about 20 minutes apart.

Disney Cruises from Southern California

Taking a Disney Cruise from Southern California

If you're planning a trip to Disneyland California and you want to extend your LA Disney experience beyond the Disneyland Resort boundaries, or if you've already done the theme parks and you're looking for a new Disney experience, you can schedule in a Disney Cruise departing from San Diego. They used to depart from the World Cruise Center at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro , but now only stop in San Diego as they reposition.

Which Disney Ships Depart from Los Angeles?

The Disney Wonder , which used to offer cruises from the Port of Los Angeles, has moved its Southern California port of call to San Diego , so there are not currently any Disney Cruise offerings out of Los Angeles or Long Beach, but that can always change, so keep an eye on their cruise schedule. The art nouveau décor of the Disney Wonder incorporates iconic Disney characters along with nautical wave themes. A bronze statue of Ariel, from The Little Mermaid greets guests in the lobby of the ship.

Where Can You Cruise on A Disney Ship from Southern California?

The Disney Wonder  now spends winters offering Caribbean Cruises out of Miami and summers offering Alaska cruises out of Vancouver, but it offers a couple cruises from San Diego repositioning between the two. One is a quick three night Mexican Riviera trip to Ensenada on the West Coast of Mexico. Search for Disney Cruises to the Mexican Riviera Disney's 5-night Alaska cruise originates in San Diego, then travels north to San Francisco before depositing the ship in Vancouver for the summer. Search for Disney Cruises to Alaska Once or twice a year, you can take the Panama Canal repositioning cruise from San Diego to Miami via Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Panama Canal, Panama; Cartagena, Colombia; and Costa Maya, Mexico. From Miami, the Disney Wonder cruises to the East and West Caribbean. Search for Disney Cruises to Panama Canal During the summer, the Disney Wonder relocates to the Pacific Northwest and offers cruises from Seattle and Vancouver to Alaska. They may also offer one repositioning cruise from Vancouver to San Diego.

Using Uber & Lyft to Get to the Los Angeles & Long Beach Cruise Ports

In a region that’s almost as famous for its car culture as it is for Hollywood, there has been a huge change in how people get around Los Angeles… and it’s great news for cruise passengers.

Los Angeles and Long Beach Uber and Lyft

Years ago, your options to getting to the cruise ports in Los Angeles or Long Beach were to catch a taxi or schedule a private car. Today you can use a rideshare service. Namely: Uber and Lyft.

If you’re not familiar with these companies, the premise is simple. Drivers are everyday people, driving their personal automobiles (cars have to be in good condition and relatively new). Riders use an app on their smartphone to schedule a ride, make the payment, and rate their driver.

Drivers love it because it allows them to earn extra cash on their own schedule. Riders love it because it is fast to catch a ride from anywhere (literally thousands of drivers are in LA), and it is often much cheaper than a traditional cab.

Uber & Lyft Availability to the Cruise Port

Both Uber and Lyft are available throughout southern California. That means no matter where you are, you can catch a ride. This includes area airports such as Los Angeles International (LAX) and Long Beach Airport (LGB).

The pictures below show the service areas for the rideshare programs. As you can see, both operate in the entire region. And don’t worry if you are traveling from one shaded region to another. Rides can travel anywhere in the area.

Estimated Fares to the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach

So how much does it cost to take an Uber or Lyft to the Los Angeles and Long Beach cruise ships?

To give you an idea of how much Uber or Lyft would cost, we’ve rounded up some estimated fares between popular pickup locations and the cruise ports. We’ve also compared the fares to the cost of a taxi, based on searches from TaxiFareFinder.com

Keep in mind that the fares listed above are for one car, not per person. Regular Uber and Lyft are designed for up to four people, but remember to consider your luggage when going to the port. (For that reason, we suggest three to a car.)

If your entire group can’t fit into a small four-door sedan, then we suggest ordering an “XL” ride or going with two separate cars. Otherwise you might not all be able to fit. We’d suggest that three adults with luggage should fit fine in a regular Uber/Lyft.

Catching Uber/Lyft From Los Angeles Airports to the Cruise Ship

Most importantly, Uber and Lyft operate at all the airports in the area, including Los Angeles International (LAX), Ontario International Airport (ONT), John Wayne Airport (SNA), Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), and Long Beach Airport (LGB).

Depending on where you fly into, expect it to take about 30 minutes to over an hour to get to the cruise ship from the airport. Below are estimated times for normal traffic.

Ride Times to Port of LA | Port of Long Beach:

  • Los Angeles International (LAX): 35 minutes | 40 minutes
  • Ontario International Airport (ONT): 70 minutes | 70 minutes
  • John Wayne Airport (SNA): 50 min | 45 minutes
  • Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR): 70 minutes | 70 minutes
  • Long Beach Airport (LBG): 25 min | 20 min

Note on Catching Uber or Lyft From Los Angeles International (LAX)

LAX-it sign at the airport

While you can catch a ride from all major airports in the area, LAX has a little different pick-up procedure than you might be used to.

Because of the airport’s size, congestion is a major issue. That’s why the airport has put in a special spot for catching Uber and Lyft called “LAX-it” (pronounced L-A-Exit). Put simply, you’ll catch a shuttle or walk to a dedicated lot for ridesharing and taxis.

By moving the pick-up area for rides to a separate lot, the hope is that it will help to alleviate some of the airport’s notoriously bad traffic. Depending on which terminal you arrive, it can take about 10-15 minutes to take the shuttle or walk to the LAX-it lot. To take the free shuttle, you simply look for the LAX-it sign at the lower level of arrivals.

How do I coordinate Uber/Lyft for 10 people? From Long Beach Airport to Carnival Cruise Terminal. Mid December — 12/23/23. Thank you.

You’ll need 2-3 rides. It’s likely easiest to simply have a couple of people call a ride at the same time and split up when the cars arrive. Not sure if Uber/Lyft has some sort of solution on their app for this type of situation.

LAX to San Pedro Port? how much will it cost at about 2 pm?

Need ground transportation from escondido to long beach pier for 6 people. I like a fare price.

Where to wait for an Uber/Lyft in LAX to Carnival Cruise Port? ANd, will either rides drop you off right in the parking for Carnival?

LAX has a new lot where Uber/Lyft pick up called LAX-It. Both of the services will drop you off at the port.

It is now August, 2019. Are the Lyft and Uber fares, above, still valid?

Rates are now a little bit higher — $5-10 in most cases.

When disembarking at the World Cruise Port, is there a specific place to wait after you’ve placed your Uber/Lyft order?

Require an estimated Uber cost Dana on Mission Resort San Diego to San Pedro cruise terminal Tuesday 9am 11 Sep.am

Going from San Diego to the San Pedro Terminal will be pricey. The estimated fare look to be about $170.

La Coruña, Spain

la cruise port to disneyland

I took my teens to an all-inclusive resort. It was a better family experience than the Disney Cruise we are used to.

  • Our family of four — me, my husband, and two teens — usually vacation aboard cruise ships.
  • We recently switched things up and decided to try an all-inclusive resort.
  • We had more conversations with our teens, I think because of the slow pace.

I have two teen sons — 13 and 14 — and my husband and I have always prioritized travel and experiences over material possessions. This means we drive an older, mediocre car but spend money on nice vacations. Traveling allows us to connect outside our daily lives, and I also believe it reinforces cooperation and teamwork.

For the past five years or so, we've been taking our kids on cruises, usually to the Caribbean and usually on Disney Cruise Line. We typically don't see a lot of our teens on a cruise , which we've never seen as a negative. Don't get me wrong, we enjoy hanging out with our kids, probably more than they enjoy hanging out with us, but Disney Cruises has excellent teen programming, and my kids stay busy.

My husband and I appreciate the opportunity to have a little time together on a family vacation . I always thought we had a good balance of family time until we decided to switch things up and go to an all-inclusive resort on dry land.

A change of venue gave us unexpected togetherness

We decided to go to Beaches Turks & Caicos , which caters to families. The price tag was comparable to a cruise, and the ease and time of getting there was about the same as getting from home to a Florida cruise port.

Besides the fact that there was more space and we weren't on a moving vessel, the vibe was the same. We looked at the resort's many pools and checked out the kid and teen areas. I expected my kids to ask to go off on their own and to give them a meeting time and place to reconnect with the family, as we would typically do on a cruise .

And then that didn't happen.

We were at Beaches for five days, and while our two teens weren't attached to our hips the entire time, I noticed they sought us out more. They actually talked to us. Our family makes a habit of checking in via text no matter where we are, but this time, the "Hey, where are you at?" messages were more often initiated by my kids instead of the other way around.

A more relaxed pace and less interest in screens

Things at the resort moved at a more relaxed pace than on a cruise. In the mornings, we could sleep late and let the day unfold, versus having to be up early so we could get off the ship and squeeze every drop out of the experience of being in a new port. The slower pace was more conducive to enjoying each other's company without having to check vacation boxes.

Beaches was also way less video game-focused than Disney Cruise Line . My teens love video games, and while Beaches did have a video game lounge, my kids were, almost unexplainably, disinterested in it, choosing to hang with us or play air hockey or shoot pool in the arcade not dedicated to video games.

Whatever the reason, I'll take it.

We gave them the autonomy to explore alone

While we enjoyed more togetherness than is typical of us on this vacation, we did allow our teens the autonomy to explore on their own, too, which we are comfortable with based on our kids' ages and maturity levels .

Rachel Goldberg, founder of Therapy in Los Angeles , offered some expert opinions on how to view parent-child communication on vacation. "One common hurdle is the presence of mismatched expectations, where parents and children have differing visions for the trip. For example, children may anticipate independent exploration, while parents may not intend to separate," Goldberg told BI.

Goldberg recommends having a daily chat about everyone's desires and finding necessary compromises. She also advises establishing clear guidelines on when and in what circumstances screens will be allowed on vacation.

I've always been happy with the teen and tween clubs on our cruises. I saw them as a way for my kids to gain independence and meet peers. I don't have a problem with them playing video games on vacation as long as they're balancing it with other activities, but this vacation caused me to refocus on how I look at our leisure time.

No matter what we do on a family vacation, the goal is for everyone to come away from the experience and be glad they went.
