We saw this show in Beaumont, TX and it was really good. Aaron had Kevin Fowler with him and the only thing that could've made it better for this Panhandle Poor Girl is if they could've enticed Trent Willmon to perform with them for an Panhandle triple shot! The venue was perfect. Not crowded at all and not an overdone "showy" type of show. Down home, genuine feel and not over-hyped. Exactly what you'd expect from those 2 performers.

Although we enjoyed the concert as a whole we did get discouraged by the amount of talking Aaron did during his set. It was nice hearing from the artist and getting a personal experience but we really wanted to hear more music. He said he'd sing parts of some songs but those were the songs we wanted to hear in their entirety lol. We were totally confused when he said he didn't want to sing Getaway Truck.....why?? It's a great song! It was cute the way Aaron brought a small girl on stage for her birthday and played for her but again we really wanted more music.

Overall it was a fun night out for my daughter-in-law and myself and worth the 1.5 hr drive to Beaumont. They had played in Houston BUT it was outdoor, ground seating. It's toooooo hot for that + I'm disabled so ground seating was out. We'd definitely see Aaron again when he's back in the area & Kevin Fowler too. Jon Stack was the opener and he was a good singer; appropriate too as he's real country - not what they're passing off as country these days. We'd actually never heard of him. Turns out he has albums. Now we know lol.

Aaron Watson is a singer-songwriter who hails from Amarillo Texas and attended Abilene Christian University, where he start playing the guitar. He played a number of gigs around Texas before releasing his debut album entitled “A Texas Café”. In the last fifteen years he has released upwards of about ten studio albums, his most recent one that he is touring with, called “Real Good Time” made it to number 9 in the US Country Charts. He opens with the song “Barbed Wire Halo” which opens with a violin played as a fiddle playing an exert similar to the song “Amazing Grace”. He joins in on his Gibson Hummingbird guitar. It is almost as though this song samples the original song. The audience is singing along from the start to the finish with their hands high up in the air. One of the songs that goes down the best is a song called “July in Cheyenne” which has everyone in this place dancing and jumping around, whilst the Texan crooner provides a worthy soundtrack.

I had a good time Aaron Watson concert. I wasn't able to sit down there close to him to where I could see him real well I was sitting up in the balcony. But he did put on a good show. I was impressed. I've been following. Aaron Watson for almost 2 years I would have loved to have met him in person. I meet and greet but I wasn't able to. Are even sitting the VIP down on the floor area But all in all it was good. I would like to see me and sometimes to be able to meet him. And get a autograph for a shirt signed or something like that. Maybe someday I will.

Aaron Watson with Zane Williams as the opening act... Aaron Watson has been on my list of people to see live for years now... Me and a few friends drove about 3 hours to see him at Joe's live Rosemont. This hands down was the best concert I have ever been... and I have been to many concerts! I honestly cannot tell you who did a better job between the two of them. I was totally fan girling the whole night! Thanks Mr. Watson and Mr. Williams for an amazing night of music and entertainment! Anytime you all are in the area I'll be front and center! 10 out of 10!

I've never been to one aaronwatson concerts and I'm planning on going to see one of his concerts hopefully the one in Fort Worth at Billy Bob's if not that one one down the line I enjoy his music it's been a fan for his for a little while and hope to see him soon he is a great singer and he does seem to love his fans I've seen some videos and he really does relate to the fans out there hope to see him soon yours truly Lois Byford

Amazing show! Amazing performance and performer. Extremely talented and would love to see him again. Every member of his band was amazing. The fiddler was my favorite!!! Also, his opening act was phenomenal. Aaron Watson is amazing and very talented. The venue was the perfect fit as well!

Aaron Watson put on a great show. He really cares about his fans. He played for 2 & 1/2 hours straight. He was taking pictures with the fans and even took 3 little girls on stage to dance and play the fiddle. I'll definitely go see him again when he returns to El Paso TX.

Aaron Watson has been around for about 10 years now. I just heard of him about a month before the concert. This guy is really good and sings from the heart. Real country music not new country/rap. You'll be amazed at his music. I will see him again first chance I get.

Neo-traditional country star Aaron Watson is bringing his new tour to cities across the US in 2024. His set plans to feature new music as well as fan favorites from his 20+ year career.  Joining him on select dates of the first leg will be Jenna Paulette, The Castellows, and Gunnar Latham on select dates.

“I’m excited to take ‘The Armadillo Dance Hall Tour all across America in 2024. I live to get up on stage and sing my heart out and then follow up the show by hanging with everyone in the merch line. Road warrior Aaron Watson has announced a return to the road in 2024 promoting his brand new album 'Cover Girl' . The Armadillo Dance Hall Tour takes place in January/February making notable stops in Columbia, Indianapolis, Alexandria, Warrendale and Atlanta. Joining the tour on select dates will be special guest Jenna Paulette. The singer-songwriter recently spent portions of 2023 touring across America along with support from Chancey Williams .

Watson released his 14th studio album 'Cover Girl' on August 27th, 2023 via Adub Records. The new album features guest appearances by Morgan Myles , Jamie Lin Wilson , Bri Bagwell , Leigh Nash , Kylie Frey , Kimberly Kelly and Courtney Patton . His popular 2016 song 'Outta Style' received a BMI Millionaire Award and another BMI Award for most radio airplay in 2017. The following year, he released his first Christmas album 'An Aaron Watson Family Christmas' which features guest appearances by his wife Kimberly and their children.

As 2023 marked his best touring year to date, thanks to Roughstock Roadshow which saw him traverse the entire United States, Watson is going full steam ahead into the new year on the first leg of his 2024 touring odyssey.

Kicking off in his home state of Texas on January 19, The Armadillo Dance Hall Tour will make its way through Texas, Missouri, Ohio, New Tork, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and more.

The 16-stop trek will wrap up its first installment on February 24 in Sahuarita, Arizona.

Aaron Watson is a country music star who has achieved success through hard work and determination. He started out playing gigs in small bars and clubs, and gradually built up a following. His debut album was released in 2001, and he has since released nine more albums, as well as charting singles on the Billboard charts. Aaron is also a devoted family man, and he balances his busy career with raising his five children.

Aaron Watson began his musical journey in college, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. After graduation, he moved to Austin, Texas, and worked various jobs while playing music on the side. In 1999, Watson released his first album, “Watermelon,” which was followed by three more independent albums. It wasn’t until his fourth album, “The Honky Tonk Kid,” that Watson began to gain mainstream attention. The album’s lead single, “Freight Train,” peaked at No. 33 on the Billboard Country charts, making it Aaron Watson’s first Top 40 hit.

Since then, Aaron Watson has released eight more studio albums, including two greatest hits albums. He has also been nominated for several awards, including the Academy of Country Music Awards and the Grammy Awards. In 2019, Watson was inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Aaron Watson is a country music star with a tireless work ethic. He has released 11 albums, including two greatest hits albums, and has been nominated for several awards. In 2019, he was inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Watson’s most recent album, “Red Bandana,” was released in 2019 and debuted at No. one on the Billboard Country charts, making it his first No. one album. Watson has been married to his wife, Kimberly, since 2002. The couple has three children together. He is a Christian.

Watson has said that he was influenced by George Strait, Hank Williams Jr., Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Dwight Yoakam, and Merle Haggard growing up. When asked about his songwriting process, Watson stated: “I just sit down with my guitar and start writing about what I know.”

He has also charted within the top 40 of Hot Country Songs with four other singles: “Run Wild Horses” (number 33, 2017), “Outta Style” (number 32, 2018), “Kiss That Girl Goodbye” (number 31, 2018) and “Fence Post” (number 39, 2020).

In June 2019, Watson became the first male country artist to have ten consecutive albums debut within the top ten of Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. The feat had only been accomplished by three female artists prior: Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Reba McEntire. Watson’s album Red Bandana debuted at number one on the chart, making him only the fifth male artist to have an album debut atop the chart since its inception in 1964.

Watson’s album The Underdog debuted at number one on the Billboard Country Albums chart, making him the first independent male artist to do so. The album was produced by Ray Wylie Hubbard and Kevin Welch.

Watson has released a total of eleven studio albums, two live albums, and one EP. His discography includes the following albums: Aaron Watson (1999), Shut Up and Dance (2001), Honky Tonk University (2005), Barbed Wire Halo (2012), Real Good Time (2014), Vaquero (2017), and Red Bandana (2019). Awards & Nominations

Watson has received several awards and nominations for his work in the country music industry. In 2010, he was nominated for the Academy of Country Music Award for Top New Male Vocalist. He has also been nominated for three Grammy Awards: Best Country Album (for Vaquero) and Best Country Solo Performance (for “Outta Style”) in 2018, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance (for “Fencepost”) in 2019. Watson has won two Texas Regional Radio Awards: Song of the Year (for “That Look”) in 2016, and Male Vocalist of the Year in 2017. He was also named Independent Artist of the Year at the 2018 Americana Music Honors & Awards.

What began 101 days earlier has sadly come to an end. Is it just us, or did the 2024 men’s major season fly by, with Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Xander Schauffele twice walking off with the hardware. There were endless storylines in their wake (did the world’s No. 1 player really get arrested on Friday of the PGA Championship?)

Now golf fans are in for the long wait—262 days to be precise—until the first round of the 2025 Masters.

Mind you, there is lots of golf to come between now and then—the Olympics, FedEx Cup Playoffs, Presidents Cup, not to mention one last women’s major (at St. Andrews to boot!) and Solheim Cup.

In an attempt to hold you over until the golf world returns to Augusta National once more next April, we compiled this early look at everybody who has already earned a spot in the field for next year’s Masters. We write this post with a caveat: We’re working off the presumption that the qualifying criteria for the 2025 event will mirror what was used in 2024.

To date, the number who have qualified, including past champions unlikely to play next year, is 68, the latest additions coming on Sunday at the British Open. Here's the list, in alphabetical order.

Circling Back: The NFL ’s hot-seat list starts out extra hot

We at The Pulse know this has been a big news month outside of the sports world. Thanks for hanging out with us.

Anyway, sports! The NFL season is right around the corner. The first preseason game, Texans – Bears , is  next Thursday . And though every fanbase’s hopes are high, the pressure on some of the league’s powerful figures is even higher. After last season’s Dallas and Philly collapses, it feels like one of the most lingering storylines, right?

My top three coaches in the most need of exceeding expectations:

1. Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy

I just do not understand how Dallas will function mentally this year. Franchise QB Dak Prescott remains unsigned beyond this season, as does star wideout CeeDee Lamb . The Cowboys lost defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to Washington. Last year saw another embarrassing bitter end for a team too talented to choke season after season in the playoffs. The pressure  already feels untenable , and preseason hasn’t even begun.  Seat watch:  🔥🔥🔥🔥

2. Jets coach Robert Saleh

A close second. He and Aaron Rodgers   started the offseason poorly , and remember how bad this team was without Rodgers last year? This is a good roster, yes, but if the 40-year-old QB misses more time this year — or is just pretty good, not great — this entire regime is in trouble.  Seat watch:  🔥🔥🔥🔥

3. Bears coach Matt Eberflus I would call this merely warm, but the burner is ready to go, should Eberflus’ leadership tank another season with another gifted quarterback. Justin Fields and Caleb Williams are not the same player, but there is a feeling that Fields’ Bears tenure wasn’t totally his fault, and that’s probably accurate. If Eberflus flails again, just as  a new Bears era  should be beginning? See ya.  Seat watch:  🔥🔥🔥

• Honorable mention: Saints coach Dennis Allen , who has been the definition of mediocre since taking over for Sean Payton two years ago.
• Oh, and the Eagles’ Nick Sirianni?  As Dianna Russini  put it over the weekend : “If Sirianni doesn’t take them to [a championship] level in 2024, the leash probably isn’t very long.”

Let’s move on:

Throne Claims: The world’s other best golfer

Entering this year, Xander Schauffele was the best player in golf without a major. After  his Open Championship win  yesterday, Schauffele has  two major wins  this year   — and conquered one of the steepest major tests in recent memory to do so.

Schauffele finishes the major season with two wins and top-10 finishes in the other two, which only the following have done in a season:

• Arnold Palmer
• Jack Nicklaus
• Gary Player
• Tiger Woods
• Jordan Spieth

It has been a year of change for Schauffele , as Brendan Quinn detailed, in which the golfer and his father, Stefan,  willfully spent some time apart  after being inseparable for his entire career. It was a tough decision, but clearly the right one — and Stefan was reveling in his son’s success yesterday.

And hey, remember how Scottie Scheffler became the best golfer in the world this year? Maybe we crowned him too quickly, Brody Miller argues:  It’s Schauffele’s crown for now .

News to Know

A thrilling Tour de France win Slovenian phenom Tadej Pogačar joined rare company yesterday,  winning his third Tour de France  (by age 25!) and first since 2021. Two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard finished a hard-fought second, and debutant Remco Evenepoel was third. We can’t get over British veteran Mark Cavendish’s  record 35th stage win  in his final Tour. Instant tears. Also, Eritrean rider Biniam Girmay won three stages to secure the green jersey as the field’s top sprinter — and became the first African rider to win a jersey of any color.

• Cardinals players say what looked like a Donald Trump-themed celebration was actually a DJ-themed celebration .
• Astros left fielder Yordan Alvarez hit for the cycle yesterday … in a loss .
• Adrián Beltré ,  Todd Helton ,  Joe Mauer  and  Jim Leyland   were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame yesterday . This is the oldest I’ll ever feel, right?

New Beginning? Fresh details on Shohei Ohtani’s past — and his new world

Every game, Shohei Ohtani does something incredible. Last night, he literally hit a ball out of Dodger Stadium :

Maybe the most incredible part of Ohtani’s season is his otherworldly production (30 HR, 70 RBI, 1.039 OPS), which, in a vacuum, is expected. But we must remember Ohtani’s inner circle was shattered just as the season began: His longtime interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, admitted to pilfering millions from Ohtani to feed a gambling addiction. 

We still didn’t know exactly how this went down — until this morning.  Ken Rosenthal published  a massive, thorough report  on Ohtani’s former inner circle and how it operated. Some tidbits I found intriguing:

• For Ohtani,  everything before this scandal went through Mizuhara and Ohtani’s agent, Nez Balelo — but mostly Mizuhara. Even communication with teammates and coaches happened via Mizuhara.
• The interpreter’s input on Ohtani’s life was staggering, intended to allow Ohtani to solely focus on baseball. During the superstar’s Angels tenure, he lived in an apartment across the parking lot from the stadium. He played baseball, he went home, he played baseball again. Mizuhara did most everything else.
• Most did not dare question Mizuhara’s instruction about Ohtani’s “private” bank account, which became the source of the interpreter’s gambling funds.  It’s gone, and the effect on Ohtani’s routine has been astonishing. In a good way.
• Dodgers players and coaches told Ken that Ohtani is much more engaging.  He’s also married now and the owner of a Los Angeles mansion 13 miles from the stadium. “He has blossomed,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

And clearly it has not affected his on-field play, or even his endorsement income, as Ken reports that annual figure could reach  $100 million  this year.

The most amazing thing to me:  Ohtani has been so good that we sort of forgot about a scandal that dominated the conversation around the entire sport just three months ago.

Men’s basketball: Team USA vs. Germany 3 p.m. ET on FOX The Americans’ final tuneup will serve as a test of sorts, as Team USA tries to assuage fans after a weirdly tense game against South Sudan over the weekend.

Top 10 QB setups entering 2024 season: These NFL teams are doing the most to support their signal-callers

Ranking the quarterbacks with the most favorable supporting casts.

Quarterbacks are important. There's no disputing that. It's why NFL teams are so quick to reset the position's market when locking up even relatively unproven signal-callers for the long haul.

Oftentimes, however, a quarterback is only as effective as his supporting cast. There are a select number of transcendent talents, to be sure: Put Patrick Mahomes on any franchise, and his track record of NFL stardom suggests he'd elevate any lineup. Still, the easiest way to project a quarterback's success is by looking at what's around him, both on the field and on the sidelines.

Here, we're ranking the 10 best quarterback situations entering the 2024 season, accounting for 1) skill weapons, 2) offensive linemen, 3) coaches and 4) defensive support, in roughly that order. Just because a quarterback has an enviable situation, of course, doesn't mean he's guaranteed a Super Bowl run; an elite setup has the ability to simply make a lesser passer competitive.

All that said, here are the teams doing the most to support their quarterback going into the season:

Atlanta Falcons

• QB:  Kirk Cousins
• Top playmakers:  Bijan Robinson , Drake London , Darnell Mooney , Kyle Pitts
• Top blockers:  Jake Matthews , Chris Lindstrom
• Top coaches:  Zac Robinson (offense), Raheem Morris (defense)

There's a lot of upside, to be sure, with Robinson likely to take a bigger role as the do-it-all dual threat. The coaches are intriguing. Is there enough out wide to truly aid Cousins and meet his big-money expectations?

Buffalo Bills

• QB:  Josh Allen
• Top playmakers:  James Cook ,  Curtis Samuel ,  Khalil Shakir ,  Dalton Kincaid
• Top blockers:  Dion Dawkins ,  Spencer Brown
• Top coaches:  Joe Brady (offense), Sean McDermott (defense)

For all the questions thrown the Bills' way after their complete overhaul of Allen's receiving corps, this isn't as barren an infrastructure as you might think: Cook is an explosive dual threat out of the backfield, and Kincaid has the upside to be a Pro Bowl pass catcher at tight end. Still, in today's NFL , it's tough to outgun the best of the best when you're lacking a bona fide No. 1 on the outside.

Jacksonville Jaguars

• QB:  Trevor Lawrence
• Top playmakers:  Travis Etienne Jr., Christian Kirk , Gabe Davis , Evan Engram
• Top blockers:  Mitch Morse , Brandon Scherff
• Top coaches:  Doug Pederson (offense), Ryan Nielsen (defense)

Etienne might be an All-Pro in a bigger market, while Kirk, Davis and Engram all serve functionally as No. 2-level outlets. The question is, how much can the line and play-calling aid Lawrence's decision-making?

Los Angeles Chargers

• QB: Justin Herbert
• Top playmakers: Gus Edwards , Joshua Palmer, Quentin Johnston , Ladd McConkey
• Top blockers: Rashawn Slater , Joe Alt
• Top coaches: Jim Harbaugh (offense), Jesse Minter (defense)

The skill talent is a total guess after the new regime overhauled the receiving corps, but maybe, just maybe, Harbaugh's tough leadership combined with a restocked line will get instant results.

Tennessee Titans

• QB:  Will Levis
• Top playmakers:  Tony Pollard , Calvin Ridley , DeAndre Hopkins , Tyler Boyd
• Top blockers:  JC Latham , Lloyd Cushenberry III
• Top coaches:  Brian Callahan (offense), Dennard Wilson (defense)

Levis suddenly has a deep, experienced crop of weapons for his fearless passing game. He's a candidate for a major leap. How ready is his young/shuffled line, however, not to mention a fresh staff?

Honorable mention

Chicago bears.

• QB:  Caleb Williams
• Top playmakers:  D'Andre Swift , D.J. Moore , Keenan Allen , Rome Odunze
• Top blockers:  Coleman Shelton , Darnell Wright
• Top coaches:  Shane Waldron (offense), Matt Eberflus (defense)

Give the Bears credit for accommodating their latest investment under center. If nothing else, Williams has a plethora of proven weapons at his disposal, with Swift, Moore and Allen offering a ton of explosiveness and/or physicality at the starting skill spots. There are too many unknowns in the trenches and on the headsets, however, to consider them a totally safe bet.

Cleveland Browns

• QB:  Deshaun Watson
• Top playmakers:  Nick Chubb , Amari Cooper , Jerry Jeudy , David Njoku
• Top blockers:  Joel Bitonio , Wyatt Teller
• Top coaches:  Kevin Stefanski (offense), Jim Schwartz (defense)

Their league-wide reputation has wavered due to Watson's mercurial play and availability, but you can see why the pressure's all on him now: Most of the ingredients are here for a real playoff run. Chubb is aging and coming off injury but is Mr. Reliable when healthy, while Cooper and Jeudy are a solid route-running duo out wide. Better yet, the coaches and defense are universally respected.

Dallas Cowboys

• QB:  Dak Prescott
• Top playmakers:  Ezekiel Elliott , CeeDee Lamb , Brandin Cooks , Jake Ferguson
• Top blockers:  Tyler Smith , Zack Martin
• Top coaches:  Mike McCarthy (offense), Mike Zimmer (defense)

Could Dallas be in the Super Bowl conversation? Sure. Lamb by himself is a game-changer, emerging as one of the game's top high-volume threats. The big names are doing a lot of the heavy lifting here, though, as Elliott may well be on his last legs, the middle of the once-vaunted line is in transition, and McCarthy is under pressure to come through as a big-game decision-maker.

Los Angeles Rams

• QB:  Matthew Stafford
• Top playmakers:  Kyren Williams , Cooper Kupp , Puka Nacua , Tutu Atwell
• Top blockers:  Alaric Jackson , Kevin Dotson , Rob Havenstein
• Top coaches:  Sean McVay (offense), Chris Shula (defense)

Not so dissimilar to the Packers , whose coach comes from the McVay tree, the Rams have the foundational pieces for long-term contention, with Williams and Nacua emerging as reliable youngsters. Their investments at the heart of the trenches are also encouraging for Stafford's health. Still, injuries and inexperience are a big question with some of the primary pieces here.

New York Jets

• QB:  Aaron Rodgers
• Top playmakers:  Breece Hall , Garrett Wilson , Mike Williams , Malachi Corley
• Top blockers:  Tyron Smith , John Simpson , Morgan Moses
• Top coaches:  Nathaniel Hackett (offense), Robert Saleh (defense)

Even without Rodgers, who's trying to rediscover MVP form at age 40 coming off a serious injury, the Jets profile as a boom-or-bust operation. Hall and Wilson are dynamic at full speed, but newcomers like Williams and Smith, the latter of whom will be charged with keeping Rodgers upright, have struggled to stay on the field. The coaching also leaves something to be desired.

Seattle Seahawks

• QB:  Geno Smith
• Top playmakers:  Kenneth Walker III , DK Metcalf , Tyler Lockett , Jaxon Smith-Njigba
• Top blockers:  Charles Cross , Laken Tomlinson
• Top coaches:  Ryan Grubb (offense), Mike Macdonald (defense)

If you're looking for a reason to consider Seattle a 2024 spoiler out of the NFC West, consider what Smith's still got at his disposal: Walker and Metcalf are both imposing when utilized, Lockett and Smith-Njiba are savvy secondary outlets, and Macdonald's arrival could make the defense much more complementary. Ongoing holes up front, however, aren't to be ignored.

Top 10 QB setups

10. green bay packers.

• QB:  Jordan Love
• Top playmakers:  Josh Jacobs , Jayden Reed , Romeo Doubs , Dontayvion Wicks
• Top blockers:  Elgton Jenkins , Josh Myers
• Top coaches:  Matt LaFleur (offense), Jeff Hafley (defense)

This group lacks the superstar sizzle of, say, the Cowboys with CeeDee Lamb. But Jacobs is a bruiser who should pair well with the club's other backs, and the receiving corps is chock-full of versatile youngsters, each of whom is liable to break out as Love's top outlet. LaFleur is also one of the game's top offensive strategists. The primary question is whether this group can sustain its late-2023 success.

9. Cincinnati Bengals

• QB:  Joe Burrow
• Top playmakers:  Zack Moss , Ja'Marr Chase , Tee Higgins , Mike Gesicki
• Top blockers:  Orlando Brown Jr., Ted Karras
• Top coaches:  Zac Taylor (offense), Lou Anarumo (defense)

Like the Cowboys, the Bengals rely heavily on one man out wide, with Chase clearly entrenched as Burrow's No. 1 target. He's a top-three home-run hitter at his position, though, and if Higgins stays healthier as his running mate, the passing game should remain elite. Burrow's front has also improved in recent years, with Trent Brown coming aboard as the new right tackle.

8. Baltimore Ravens

• QB:  Lamar Jackson
• Top playmakers:  Derrick Henry , Zay Flowers , Mark Andrews , Isaiah Likely
• Top blockers:  Ronnie Stanley , Tyler Linderbaum
• Top coaches:  Todd Monken (offense), Zach Orr (defense)

This many years in, Jackson still lacks a bona fide No. 1 receiver. Fortunately Baltimore has leaned into his strengths by outfitting him instead with top-level players for specific roles: Henry as the bulldozing rushing partner, Flowers as the slippery wideout, Andrews and Likely as the sure-handed big men. Throw in a sturdy interior, confident play-caller and stingy defense, and you can see the playoff recipe.

7. Houston Texans

• QB:  C.J. Stroud
• Top playmakers:  Joe Mixon , Stefon Diggs , Nico Collins , Tank Dell
• Top blockers:  Laremy Tunsil , Shaq Mason
• Top coaches:  Bobby Slowik (offense), DeMeco Ryans (defense)

The Texans saw what we all saw in 2023: Stroud has "it" under center. They acted accordingly, beefing up an emergent receiving corps by trading for Diggs, who's aging and outspoken but remains a surefire No. 1. His presence alone should increase opportunities for Collins and Dell, while Ryans' resilient defense should be in for a major step forward after big-money investments to the front seven.

6. Kansas City Chiefs

• QB:  Patrick Mahomes
• Top playmakers:  Isiah Pacheco , Rashee Rice , Marquise Brown , Travis Kelce
• Top blockers:  Joe Thuney , Creed Humphrey
• Top coaches:  Andy Reid (offense), Steve Spagnuolo (defense)

Unlike at the start of the Mahomes era, these Chiefs get more points for infrastructure than flash. There's no more creative NFL play-caller than Reid, but it was Spagnuolo's physical defense that helped drive 2023's Super Bowl run, with some punishing Pacheco runs and clutch Kelce catches sprinkled in. If Brown and other speedy newcomers are healthy/available, the deep-ball threat may well be back, too.

5. Minnesota Vikings

• Top blockers:  Christian Darrisaw , Garrett Bradbury

This is the one team where, at the end of 2024, we might be saying, "If only things pan out at quarterback." The O-line isn't perfect, but everything else is in place: Jones is splashy, even if he's in town as a rental, and the trio of Jefferson-Addison-Hockenson is nearly unmatched across the NFL, so long as those guys stay on the field. O'Connell is beloved internally, and Flores gets the most out of his defense.

4. Miami Dolphins

• QB:  Tua Tagovailoa
• Top playmakers:  Raheem Mostert , Tyreek Hill , Jaylen Waddle , Odell Beckham Jr .
• Top blockers:  Terron Armstead , Austin Jackson
• Top coaches:  Mike McDaniel (offense), Anthony Weaver (defense)

The line is a major concern here, considering Armstead is notoriously injury-prone and both Connor Williams and Robert Hunt are now gone. That's especially foreboding for Tagovailoa, who thrives as an on-script passer. Still, few quarterbacks, if any, enjoy such an electric cast of characters; De'Von Achane also offers lightning speed out of the backfield, giving McDaniel a truly video-game-like spread.

3. Philadelphia Eagles

• QB:  Jalen Hurts
• Top playmakers:  Saquon Barkley , A.J. Brown , DeVonta Smith , Dallas Goedert
• Top blockers:  Landon Dickerson , Lane Johnson
• Top coaches:  Kellen Moore (offense), Vic Fangio (defense)

The Eagles' historic 2023 collapse has prompted plenty of us to undersell just how much of an all-star lineup they've assembled two years after a Super Bowl bid. Barkley's name is arguably bigger than his resume, but his All-Pro juice behind a typically sturdy line and alongside such a dominant one-two punch out wide could -- should? -- propel Hurts to another MVP candidacy. The new staff is the big X-factor.

2. San Francisco 49ers

• QB:  Brock Purdy
• Top playmakers:  Christian McCaffrey , Deebo Samuel , Brandon Aiyuk , George Kittle
• Top blockers:  Trent Williams , Jon Feliciano
• Top coaches:  Kyle Shanahan (offense), Nick Sorensen (defense)

Purdy deserves credit for the poise he's shown as an off-script play-extender, offsetting protection breakdowns, but there's no doubt he also benefits from a quarterback-friendly design. McCaffrey is the centerpiece as Shanahan's do-it-all utility man, with the rugged, explosive Samuel in a similar role. If Aiyuk's contract situation isn't resolved, robbing the group of a true downfield target, they would dip.

1. Detroit Lions

• QB:  Jared Goff
• Top playmakers:  David Montgomery , Jahmyr Gibbs , Amon-Ra St. Brown , Sam LaPorta
• Top blockers:  Taylor Decker , Frank Ragnow , Penei Sewell
• Top coaches:  Ben Johnson (offense), Aaron Glenn (defense)

Like Purdy in San Francisco, Goff is a definite part of his club's title contention; he's more than proven his mettle going from Rams castoff to gutsy leader for a resurgent franchise. Still, it might be more accurate to call him the current figurehead of the NFL's most balanced offensive attack. Montgomery and Gibbs are a thunder-and-lightning combo behind arguably the league's best line, St. Brown is an elite chain-mover, and LaPorta is just getting started as another safety valve. Throw in Johnson and Dan Campbell, who refuse to dial down their aggression as decision-makers, and it's no wonder the new Lions seem here to stay.
