Antalya is the beating heart of the Turkish Riviera and is all about being on the water. With miles and miles of gorgeous Turquoise coast, as well as some wild, untamed rivers and mysterious off-shore islands, it’s the number one place to take a boat trip in Turkey.

In fact, there are so many boat tours in Antalya to choose from, that it can be overwhelming choosing between them. To help you decide, we’ve put together a list of the best Antalya boat trips and tours, so you can put together your epic Antalya itinerary .

Whether you’re looking for diving adventures, private yacht cruises, snorkeling adventures, day trips to uninhabited islands or party boat tours – these are the best boat trips in Antalya for any type of traveler…

The Best Group Antalya Boat Trips

Let’s begin with some group boat trip options. These are the best options for any type of traveler on a budget as you simply book your ticket, and spend the day exploring with other like-minded travelers.

Whether you’re a family, group of friends, couple, or solo traveler, these boat trips will be right up your alley!

1. Full Day Suluada Island Boat Trip

Suluada-Beach-Antalya-Turkey

Nicknamed the Turkish Maldives, Suluada Island is a true paradise in the Mediterranean Ocean. The name ‘ Suluada ‘ translates to Watery Island in English, and it refers to the freshwater source that’s found on the island. However, it’s the beaches that bring people here.

The uninhabited island is surrounded by pristine, white sand beaches and crystal clear bays. There are plenty of snorkeling spots around the island where you can see lots of fish and marine life. You’ll sail past Love Cave and Love Beach, Cennet Bay, West Beach, and Fener Bay.

On this boat tour from Antalya, you start by driving to Adrasan, which takes around 1.5 hours. You will then board your boat, and sail around the stunning landscape as well as stop and swim or snorkel in the best spots.

You’ll also get to snorkel in the Hacivat Bay on the way home – this is a famous rock formation in Antalya and is named because it looks like a character from a Turkish play named Hacivat.

This is a full-day tour with pickup and drop-off from your hotel. Just pack your sun hat and shades, plenty of sun cream, and of course, your swimsuit. You will also need to bring your own snorkeling gear, but you can rent this from in Antalya town for a reasonable price. You’ll also be treated to a lunch on board, which has vegetarian options as well.

2. Pirate Boat Trip to Phaselis Bay

Phaselis-Beach-Antalya-Flickr

If you’re looking for a more historical boat tour, then the pirate boat from Kemer Beach to Phaselis Bay is the bout tour for you. As you discover the stunning bays around the Mediterranean ocean, you’ll be transported by a pirate-themed Gallion, which looks like something out of a Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

The ship will take you to the ancient Greek and Roman city of Phaselis, which is now an open-air museum in Antalya . The city is now in ruins, which is said to date back to the 7th century BCE.

Wander around the agora and amphitheater, former Roman Baths, and aqueducts, before heading back to the ship to do some more exploring.

You’ll have some time to swim in the shallow waters of Phaselis, before having lunch. Then, you’ll sail to Paradise Bay, which as you can imagine by the name, is a stunning beach. You might also get to see the beautiful Mehmet Ali Bükü bay for swimming if there’s time.

The final stop on your journey is the Alaca Water, a gorgeous inlet filled with coral, which is the perfect spot to do some snorkeling before returning home. The entire tour takes around 6-8 hours, so do plan for a full day.

3. Demre, Kekova Sunken City, and Myra Boat Trip

boat trip in turkey

If you’d like to get off the beaten track on your boat tour, then consider a trip out to the small Turkish island of Kekova, which is just a short boat ride from the coastal town of Demre.

Here is where you can see the partly sunken ruins of the ancient town of Kekova, the most famous of which are the tombs that are partly submerged in the water.

Kekova was largely destroyed by an earthquake in the 2nd century but was rebuilt and used as a dockyard until it the Byzantine era. As soon as the Arabs invaded, it was abandoned.

Although the Turkish government has banned swimming around the ruins because of problems with looters, you can still rent kayaks and paddle close by or take a boat trip out to see them.

4. Full Day Scuba Diving Tour for Beginners

boat trip in turkey

It wouldn’t be a trip to the Mediterranean without a day spent scuba diving. This is one of the most popular things to do in Antalya, and for good reason.

Nestled below the ocean are a shipwreck, corals, captivating caves, and plenty of marine life. You can see it all on this diving excursion, which is suitable for divers of all skill levels – that means you too, beginners!

This is a full-day boat tour that takes you to several diving spots off the coast of Antalya. You’ll get picked up from your hotel and meet your professional diving guide.

The dive sites are chosen according to weather conditions, and you’ll also be split into groups depending on your skill level, so if you have been diving before you don’t have to worry about being held back.

5. Green Canyon Boat Trip

boat trip in turkey

For those who are tired of seeing the ocean, you can head inland to the serene landscape of the Green Canyon. Sit back and relax on a cruise through an emerald green lake sitting at the base of the Taurus Mountain range.

The canyon is around 14 kilometers long, plus a further 3 kilometers into its Little Canyon. The lake is surrounded by lush woodlands and glistening limestone cliffs.

If it pleases you, feel free to take a dip in the cool waters and feel that blissful water cool your skin.

Make sure to be on the lookout for a rare brown fish owl that calls this canyon home!

6. Boat Trip to Düden Waterfalls + City Tour

Lower-Duden-Falls

Located about 10km out of Antalya is the Duden Waterfalls. There are two falls, Upper and Lower; both connecting to the Düden River which starts in the Taurus Mountain Range.

The Lower Düden Waterfall is the most famous waterfall in Antalya because its water drops 40 meters off a cliff into the Mediterranean below. This is the advantage of seeing the waterfall from a boat trip, as you get the best view of the water dropping into the ocean below.

The Upper Waterfall is a bit of a walk from Lower Falls, but the walk strolls through forest-lined pathways and through the natural caves. Here you can see the waterfall up close from a viewing platform.

Because of its close proximity to the city, this boat trip in Antalya is only half a day, so the rest of the day is spent exploring some of the top attractions in the city, such as Hadrian Gate and the old city of Kaleici.

7. Manavgat River Cruise

boat trip in turkey

Another historic boat tour in Antalya takes you to the Manavgat coast. Here you can see sea turtles sunning themselves by the bay, followed by a visit to a 2nd-century-old Roman temple of Apollo.

After visiting the lively town of Manavgat and exploring the markets, you’ll get to spend time swimming in either the sea or river. The boat will cruise down the river so you get an excellent view of the town and all its bustling atmosphere.

8. Party Boat Tour Around the Mediterranean

boat trip in turkey

Antalya’s nightlife and party scene are second to none, and it’s one of the major reasons why Antalya is worth visiting . But for a truly unique party experience, grab your bikini and your vodka as the Mega Star is about to set sail on the party cruise of your life!

The boat sails around the stunning Mediterranean ocean, stopping at places where you can swim if you want to. The DJ is dropping hit after hit, and there’s even a foam party.

Lunch is provided so you can keep your belly full while you party. There is a full bar service and you will also get picked up and dropped off at your hotel.

Private Boat Trips in Antalya

Not everyone likes to spend the day hanging out with strangers. Of course, a private Antalya boat trip is going to cost you more than the group tours, but what you get out of it are a more personal experience, a tailored itinerary, and long-lasting memories.

And if you’re traveling as a group and split the cost, it can be quite affordable. Here are the best private boat tours in Antalya.

9. Private Boat Trip to Kekova

Sunken City of Kekova

If you fancy visiting Kekova but without the throngs of people, consider booking a private tour. This allows you to go at your own pace, stop off where you choose for a swim, or spend longer exploring ruins and caves.

You’ll be joined by a local guide who will share with you their knowledge of the history of Kekova and its ruins. You’ll also get a good view of the ruins beneath the surface from the glass bottom of the boat.

The cruise also goes to Akvaryum Bay, which is the perfect place for a swim. The final stop is Kalekoy, an authentic village known for the striking Simena Castle.

If you want to add some water sports to your itinerary, you can do just that as you head to Gokkaya Bay. You also pass by a pirates’ cave which is full of majestic natural structures.

10. Private Boat Trip to Kas

boat trip in turkey

For a unique experience, head to the scenic Kas Islands in Greece, sailing on a beautiful 55-foot (17-meter), traditional wooden gulet yacht.

As you hop from island to island, you’ll get plenty of chances to stop and snorkel and swim, as well as see an epic sunken ship and underwater canyon. All snorkel gear can be provided.

The tour includes a Turkish-style lunch and can carry up to 15 passengers, so grab your mates and head to Kas! If there’s anywhere special you want to go, chat with your captain, as the schedule and itinerary can be fully customized.

11. Full Day Luxury Yacht with Drinks

boat trip in turkey

If you want to cruise the gorgeous Turquoise Coast at your own pace and on your own itinerary, no problem! Simply hire your own private yacht and explore!

The yacht is able to carry up to 12 passengers, and you can stop and swim anywhere you want. The yacht also has fishing and snorkeling gear, so no need to pack your own.

You’ll be treated to lunch or dinner on board, as well as hotel pick up and drop off. This is the most flexible boat tour in Antalya, perfect for those who love to plan every detail of their trip!

Tips for Taking An Antalya Boat Tour

If you’ve found a boat tour in Antalya that sounds exciting to you, then make sure you consider these words of advice before you book.

  • Book in advance. Taking a boat tour is one of the most popular day trips in Antalya and it’s quite common for boat tours to sell out. Don’t leave it to the last minute and book early.
  • Pack plenty of water. The sun in Antalya is very hot and in the summer, it receives very little cloud cover. Make sure you stay hydrated.
  • Wear reef-safe sun cream. This follows my previous point about the sun. Protect your skin and wear sun cream, but if you plan on doing some snorkeling, make sure that it’s reef safe as some sun creams are harmful to the corals and fish.
  • Bring snacks. Every boat trip we’ve taken has usually included lunch, but lunch can sometimes be later in the day at around 2 pm. We prefer to eat a bit earlier, so took some snacks to keep us going.
  • Bring a towel . You always need a towel, even if you don’t plan on swimming. Trust me!
  • Pack flip-flops . If you’re planning on visiting any beaches or islands, flip-flops are a must!
  • Get a dry bag for your camera gear. We’ve made this mistake before and came home with a soaking wet camera. Luckily a bag of rice later and our camera was fine. But the bag of rice trick isn’t fail-safe so do get a dry bag if you can.
  • Don’t forget your swimsuit! This might seem obvious but we’ve seen it happen!

The crew were outstanding and the food was excellent. However the boat was a tired old heap which needs maintenance which is not carried out due to back to back charters which is greedy and not fair on the crew trying to cope with a boat which broke down several times and we had smell of diesel in bedrooms when motoring making the rooms unusable and the smell of holding tank unbearable in two rear cabins. The good review is due to your staff who work very hard for you.

This is a very relaxed Sail through the Turkish Riviera. There were 3 Topdeck boats run by Alaturka Sailing. There are no guides on board the boats, but we were lucky as our crew spoke English. The 3 boats were split up via age groups. This was good as most of the people on your boat had similar expectations and want to party. There are opportunities for the boats to mix only a couple of times - on a night out in the town of Kas and at Smugglers Cove. Other than that you aren't allowed to go on other boats. Each day on the boat is quite similar. Wake up, swim, breakfast, swim, lunch, swim, afternoon tea, swim, dinner, swim, happy hour and drinks to follow. It is a very relaxing trip, people read and listen to music during the day. All food is provided; it was plentiful and amazing. Each breakfast is a standard turkish breakfast, lunch is always vegetarian and dinner is either fish/chicken/beef. I would recommend this trip to anyone. Everyone on our boat had a great time, we all got along well and no one wanted to leave the boat.

Sailing In Turkey: 2 Days On The Stunning Turquoise Coast

2-day boat trip in turkey, sailing in turkey

As I was planning my epic 35th birthday trip, there were two specific things that anchored the itinerary as must-dos—visiting Cappadocia (#1 on my bucket list) and some sailing in Turkey along the Turquoise Coast.

I found a way to make both happen within a week’s trip, and I’m totally stoked to share both the experiences and a few of my favorite photos from the 2 days I spent on the boat.  The real question is how many different ways I can try and find to describe the amazing colors of the water…let’s see, shall we?!

Sailing Turkey's Gorgeous Turquoise Coast | Why a 2-day boat trip in Turkey should be on your bucket list. Sailing in Turkey is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and should be on any boat lover's itinerary. Short boat trips in Turkey, exploring the Gocek Islands, #airbnbboat. What is the Turquoise Coast?

Also called the Turkish Riviera, this is Turkey at her most gorgeous.  Stretched all along the southwestern half of the country, you’ve got the rugged pine-lined mountains and sun-kissed sand with turquoise sea.  The area was occupied once upon a time by the ancient Lycians (more on them later), and is absolutely idyllic.

Options for sailing in Turkey

The coasts of both the Mediterranean and Aegean in Turkey are world-famous for their clear aqua water, beautiful coastlines, and interesting history.  So it’s no surprise that boat trips are a popular way to experience it.  There are many different routes, and many of the trips are at least 4-7 days long (though day sails from Fethiye and Göcek are also popular).

One of the most iconic ways to do this is a gulet boat trip.  Gulets are classic wooden yacht, traditionally two-masted.  They’re especially associated with Turkey, but you can find them in Croatia and Greece as well.

Since I only had two days for the sailing part of my itinerary, I had trouble finding the right boat and itinerary fit—finding a 2-day boat trip in Turkey seemed impossible!  I ultimately chose to sail with a host off Airbnb.  I was sailing alone, but the boat could have held up to four guests.  Here is the listing for the boat that I rented. [2022 note: Sadi has taken a break for a couple years but is hoping to buy a new boat sometime in 2022]

(Yes, I know it’s not technically “sailing” as there are no sails, but we’re just going with it…)

I grabbed a taxi from my amazing hotel in Fethiye over to Göcek, marveling at how they basically drive like they’re in a “The Fast & the Furious” movie 🙂  The driver dropped me off at the main Göcek marina, which is super cute.  It was easy to meet up with Sadi and Meryam, my captain and first mate for the next couple days!

They welcomed me onto their boat, the “Nirvana S” .  I’d found this specific boat after INTENSE Airbnb searching, and chose them for a number of reasons, but most importantly since I was a solo female traveler, I liked that Meryam (Sadi’s wife) was traveling with us rather than just a crew of all guys.  They were a very warm and hospitable couple in their 50s/60s, and I absolutely loved my time with them.

They sent me off to go get any snacks and drinks that I wanted to bring (they had stocked all the meal food), and then we headed out to sea…

It was SO wonderful being out on the water again!  We couldn’t have asked for more gorgeous weather, and at first I just enjoyed sitting at the bow and watching the coastline, sipping hot black tea and soaking up some sun.

Wonder how I found this boat??  Choosing the Best Rental or Hotel Every Time

A huge part of my sailing in Turkey was definitely about the journey, not the destination—but there were a few specific islands and sights that were worth calling out (and that I remember the names of…), and I’ve highlighted those below!

Paradise Island

Our first main stop of the day was Paradise Island, where Sadi docked and then sent us on our way.  Meryam led me up a trail to the top of the island, where you had a gorgeous view of the teal water, the other little islands and mainland, and a few other lucky fellow boaters.

Out on the water…

Later that afternoon, we sailed around a number of other islands, but didn’t stop anywhere.  Sadi kept asking me if I wanted to stop and swim, but honestly I’m not super into swimming…I love being by the water, seeing the water, but am not really as into being *in* it!  I instead enjoyed this great area on the boat for laying out and grabbing some sun.

Complete side note, in that second pic below I LOVE how my face isn’t greasy and gross…I discovered Korean face sunscreens about a year ago and it’s been a game-changer for my travel pics and skincare.  Here are some of my favorite Korean sunscreens for travel.

By about 3pm we stopped at the place where we’d stay the first night, to make sure we snagged a good spot for anchoring.  It gave me all the late afternoon and evening to sit and listen to the water, read my Kindle, sip a glass of ice-cold rosé, and then watch the sun set.

The next morning was rainy, so I let myself sleep in awhile, and then had a delicious giant breakfast and enjoyed my tea and Kindle for a few hours while it poured.

I was bummed that the weather wasn’t perfect, but it was actually really lovely and cozy just to sit and chill with the sound of the rain outside.

Okay, let’s take a quick break from gorgeous turquoise water (waaaay more on it further below) and talk about the food.  Now, when people think about sailing in Turkey or anywhere else, the food is rarely what people rave about.  Sure, you might have some fresh seafood, but otherwise it’s kind of “roughing it”.  But not on this boat!

For breakfast, I had a huge selection of different Turkish cheeses plus bread and honey.  And then one morning she made me eggs with sausage, and another a sort of omelet.

The food Meryam cooked on the boat was amazing! Eggs and beef sausage.

Meryam’s home cooking was so yummy, and unique from the Turkish food I’d had previously.  Below are a few examples, including some delicious spiced chopped beef, yummy beef kofte, roasted chicken, and a whole pan-fried fish.

She always made a few interesting little salads and side dishes for each meal too.  It was WAY more food than one person could eat, but it was all so good!

Okay, now back to the sailing bit…

Finally, the rain cleared up a little before lunch and we headed out to explore.  This type of a day is exactly what sailing in Turkey is all about!  Blue skies, blue waters, and some good sun for tanning!!

Once we got going again, we stopped at Cleopatra/Hamaam Bay, where there were a few Greek (or Roman??) ruins.  The color of the water here was absolutely nuts.  We didn’t stop or anchor here, though…just skimmed through and grabbed some pics.

We hiked over the top of the island to the other side (quite steep!), passing by this cute little herd of donkeys and luxuriating in the deep forest smells.  I can’t quite put my foot on what smelled so good (besides spicy, fragrant evergreen needles), but it was awesome!

Down by the water there were olive, pomegranate, and orange trees all around, and I even picked a pomegranate that became my snack later.

Donkeys grazing around Seagull Bay

And WHY did we hike to the other side, you ask??  Um, to find our own little private beach, of course!

The water was just unbelievable colors…the most intense blues, greens, and sparkling turquoises you can imagine.

I went for a quick swim and took loads of photos.  I mean seriously, like a hundred pics in a very short amount of time.  Then we tried to dry off and climbed back over the island to the boat.

This beach was one of the most magical parts of the trip!

The rest of the afternoon was spent sailing around.  I had a delicious kofte lunch and then finally did do some swimming off the side of the boat—Sadi was so happy!  Can you even believe the color of this water?!

Lycian tomb ruins

Later in the afternoon we sailed past a coastline packed with Lycian tomb ruins.  We don’t know a ton definitively about the Lycians, but we believe they were ancient peoples who lived along the coast of Turkey.

They were known for being sea-going peoples, having a more democratic form of government, an a matrilineal society (lineage and names through mothers rather than fathers).  From what we can tell they may have had Hittite origins, and occupied this coast for multiple millennia BC.

They believed their dead were carried into the afterlife by magical winged creatures, and so placed their tombs in high-up places…often cliffsides.  These can be ornate and look like temples (like in Fethiye), or older ones that are little more than little caves dug into the rock face.

One of the great reasons to sail along—or hike—this coast is to be able to see a lot of the ancient Lycian tombs tucked away in the rocks.

Magical sunrise

We had tucked ourselves into a little cove for the night, and I was really hoping for a real sunrise the next morning!

On the morning of my 35th birthday, I woke up to a clear morning, having set my alarm for a half hour before sunrise.  I pulled on a sweatshirt and climbed up onto the deck.  The night’s dark hadn’t quite let go, but the dark indigo blue was starting to creep over the sky.  The a rich violet, and finally some pinks and oranges.

Perfect moments sailing in Turkey - sunrise on my birthday

Sadi made me some hot black tea and I sat and watched the bright sun creep over the islands’ horizon…bringing with it the beginning of another year!

As soon as I’d eaten another delicious breakfast, we headed back toward Göcek’s marina so I could catch my flight from Dalaman to Istanbul.  It had been an amazing 2 days of sailing in Turkey, the perfect chance to explore the Turquoise Coast for a short time!

I would rent with Sadi and Meryam again in a heartbeat, and if you’re looking for a short trip option to sail in Turkey, this boat is exactly what you should be looking for!

Hi Priyanka! So glad it’s helpful. Unfortunately Sadi is taking a break from doing tours for a couple years, though is hoping to buy a new boat sometime this year and get back to it. For now I’d look at other Airbnb listings that are similar, but he told me he’d let me know when he’s back up and running and I’ll mention it here as well!

Hi Gladys! I reached out to Sadi and unfortunately he’s not doing tours this year (he probably will in the future). I hope you find something similar, it’s an amazing experience!

Turkey has a type of tea…Apple tea …. what cafe with cobblestone… streets nearby Would you possibly recommend? I have been to the n’s graves And I have purchased it’s just rainbow dyed silk in the market… But to sit in a quaint little cafe without Apple tea.. Cube sugar and the pastry …what would your personal recommendation be???

January 2, 2023 at 10:01 am

Hi Rickie! You can certainly find apple tea all over the place, though locals will tell you it’s just for tourists, no Turkish people drink it 🙂 You shouldn’t have issues finding it.

Sailing in Turkey: A Guide to a Gulet Cruise Along the Turquoise Coast

Sailing in Turkey along it’s Turquoise Coast is a magical way to spend a holiday in this beautiful country.

Stretching from the bustling port of Fethiye, to the resort town of Antalya, this coastline has been dubbed the Turquoise Coast for its twinkly blue warm seas. Backed by mountain ranges for almost its entire length, their slopes drop precipitously down to quaint fishing villages and the coastal highway which twists and turns with the coast. Lush pine forest, sandy beaches and sheer cliffs add drama, and the hundreds of tiny secluded coves and bays are tucked away, only accessible by water.

The most popular way to explore the Turquoise coast is by sailing, and the traditional wooden gulet cruise boat is a fantastic and authentic way to do this.

If you’re looking to spend long, lazy days onboard a typical Turkish boat, with glorious weather to boot, then a sailing trip in Turkey is for you. I recently spent three nights on board a gulet, sailing from Fethiye to Olympus, near Antalya with Alaturka Cruises enjoying a sailing trip along the Turquoise coast, on the route often referred to as the ‘blue cruise’. I tucked into delicious fresh seafood, explored ancient ruins, enjoyed drinks in lively fishing ports and jumped into the warm, calm seas for three days, and it was just brilliant. So here’s my guide to the Turquoise Coast, including how to choose a company to sail in Turkey with and what to do in each port of call. Enjoy reading and have fun planning your own sailing trip to Turkey!

Sailing in Turkey – Essential Things To Know

sailing in turkey

How to get to the Turquoise Coast

Depending on which direction you want to sail in, you need to fly to Fethiye or Antalya. Turkish Airlines and Pegasus both fly domestically from Istanbul and several other Turkish destinations to these seaside ports. You can also reach these towns by bus or train, which you can read more about in my guide to using public transport in Turkey.

From the UK or other European destinations, in the summer months (April to October), many airlines fly to Fethiye or Antalya and you should be able to catch a good deal.

When is the best time to go sailing in Turkey

For prime weather conditions, the peak summer season from May to September is best. In these months, the crowds do swell but the weather is best and you can almost guarantee long, sunny, hoy days – perfect for sailing trips in Turkey!

How to choose a company for a Turkey sailing trip

It might seem a little overwhelming as so many companies offer gulet cruises in Turkey. For two day or longer trips, I would definitely recommend Alaturka Cruises . I found them online in advance of my visit. Not only did they have excellent reviews online, but their email support beforehand was brilliant. The price was great value and the dates worked perfectly for my two week Turkey itinerary .

The gulet boat that we sailed the Turquoise Coast on was really well-maintained and well-sized for the number of passengers on board. It was so hot during our sailing trip in late August that they recommended we slept out under the stars on deck. We slept on these comfy sun-loungers and it was amazing sleeping with a warm breeze. The crew with Alaturka were fantastic. They were really attentive and fun, but not overbearing at all. We had a crew of three Turkish guys who took such great care of us and gave us great tips and suggestions. I joined the gulet cruise as a solo female traveller and didn’t feel uncomfortable once.

The other passengers were from all over the world – including a family from Saudi Arabia, a couple from South Africa and the US, a few other Brits and Americans. Everyone got on so well and the atmosphere was brilliant. With Alaturka, you could also rent your own private gulet cruise boat or yacht with crew if you had your own big group.

What to pack for a sailing holiday

Depending on the company you go with, it’s unlikely you’d need to bring any bedding or towels. However, you will need lots of suntan lotion, swimwear and hats. The sun can be very strong and there may only be a certain amount of shade onboard. The gulet boats normally have quite a few inflatables and they’re nearly always full board.

Every sailing company will have its own policy for alcohol on board. Our gulet cruise with Alaturka offered a self-service bar with an honesty tab, therefore we didn’t need to bring our own alcohol on board.

I would recommend one or two evening outfits for the nights you dock in or near a port for the option to go out in the evening.

sunset on the turquoise coast

Where to stay before or after the sailing trip

The main sailing routes are Fethiye to Olympus, or the other way round.

Fethiye offers many accommodation options. One of the best luxury hotels is the Club Tuana, you can check rates here .

Otherwise you can find hundreds of other options covering all price ranges on Booking.com here .

In Olympus, there is the very unusual offering of treehouses in this amazing valley town.

Some of the best options include:

  • Turkmen Treehouses
  • Kadir’s Treetop Houses
  • Olympus Deep Green Bungalows

Towns to visit along the Turquoise Coast, Turkey

Although it was the starting point to my gulet cruise in Turkey, Fethiye was possibly my least favourite town along the coastline. The town has experienced some mass overdevelopment in the past few decades and I imagine much of its charm has been lost.

I don’t know why, but before I arrived, it seemed to think Fethiye was going to be a quaint village so I was even more disappointed. That being said, it is the starting point for many sailing trips in Turkey so you don’t necessarily need to spend too long there. Its harbour is pretty beautiful but I didn’t particularly like the surrounding streets and restaurant areas.

Some of the key attractions in and around Fethiye include the ancient city of Kadyanda and the abandoned ancient Greek village of Kaya Köyü.

Butterfly Valley

The first stop for many boats departing from Fethiye is the famed Butterfly Valley. This beautiful secluded cove is only reached by boat.

Its important to know that this beach isn’t sand, but instead, lots of tiny sharp rocks – really painful.

The beach sits at the entrance to a vast canyon, where there is also a cool off-the-radar back-to-basics campsite and a low-key bar and restaurants offering a cool hippy chilled vibe.

It’s called Butterfly Valley as it’s home to a butterfly farm, were there’s a huge diverse range of butterflies. August (when I visited) was not the season to see the butterflies, but the ones I did see were very colourful.

Butterfly valley, Turkey

Ölüdeniz is one of the most famous beaches in Europe. This stunning beach is regularly voted as one of the most beautiful, so I was really excited to dock here.

It really is a beautiful stretch, but as with many gorgeous beaches around the world, it certainly draws crowds and is pretty touristy.

One of the most popular activities to do in Ölüdeniz, and even in Turkey is paragliding. You can arrange this through your gulet cruise organisers, when you arrive in Ölüdeniz or in advance through GetYourguide. Book your paragliding jump here!

No matter which company you pick to go paragliding with, the experience is the same.

You depart from the centre of Ölüdeniz in a minibus with all of the paragliding kits and crew on board.

It’s one very long and perilous drive to the top of Babadag Mountain. I wondered a few times if the van was genuinely road-worthy enough, but we made it.

Ölüdeniz is one of the highest commercial locations in the world where you can paraglide. Together with the breathtaking views and consistently good weather, it is also one of the best places in the world to paraglide.

Once you reach the top, it takes no more than five minutes to jump into the gear and attach the parachute. You run down a short runway with your paragliding guide before, bam, you’re in the air.

We flew straight through the clouds, which was much like a warmer shower, before swerving sharply and emerging into the most spectacular view.

I was really impressed with my guide who I felt really wanted to make it an epic experience for me. He was very keen on making sure we tons of awesome photos and videos, and he really worked the ropes to create a stomach twisting experience. It was amazing!

Aside from paragliding, Ölüdeniz is also the starting point for the Lycian Trail, one of Turkey’s most iconic hiking routes.

In Ölüdeniz, there are also some great bars and cafes to enjoy some time in if you don’t feel like paragliding.

Paragliding in Olu Deniz

The beautiful harbour town of Kaş has a lot to offer and is a great town to visit along the Turquoise Coast. Its charming laneways are lined with interesting boutique stores, cute cafes, lively beach bars and metres of tumbling bougainvillea.

This area is also known for fantastic diving and many dive operators run trips straight from Kaş. Our boat trip with Alaturka permitted enough time to spend the afternoon diving, which was great.

We enjoyed fantastic cocktails at Mumi Cafe Beach. This beach bar had had an awesome atmosphere during the day, and I would highly recommend.

On the day we were in Kaş, it so happened to be Victory Day in Turkey. This meant that the evening was absolutely pumping. Hundreds of Turks had travelled from all over the country to revel in the town. It was an amazing experience as a tourist.

Exploring Kas in Turkey

The next stop along the coast is Kekova, and the magnificent Sunken City here – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kekova is home to incredible underwater ruins that were submerged following an earthquake. This area was once a prominent town in the Byzantine and Lycian eras, but is now completely deserted, except for a handful of goats.

This is a no walk, no diving zone. But many boats do sail past each day slowly to take in the incredible site. You can see rooms, staircases and doorways above the sea level, as well as make out pathways and more rooms under the water level. Luckily the water is completely translucent, and is one of the most unusual sites I have ever seen.

Underwater ruins

Kaleköy and Simena Castle

Along the Turquoise Coast, this tiny, traditional village was one of my favourite spots. Visiting this tiny hillside hamlet was like a step back in time. The ancient Simena Castle is located at the top of the village and is well worth a visit. It takes around 10 minutes of hiking through the tiny village and up into the hill. At the top, you’ll find the old fortress, once a notable Lycian settlement. Here you will find an incredible panoramic vista over the Gokkaya bay. The heat can be particularly intense here and despite it being quite a short hike, we ran out of water.

The tiny laneways of the village are lined with local women (and children) selling their homemade souvenirs. They were not pushy at all and I bought several lovely bracelets here.

Simena castle on Turkey's Turquoise Coast

Lastly, the final spot along the Turquoise Coast to visit (or first if you’re doing this route in reverse) is the hippie town of Olympos.

An odd mix of travellers descend on this incredibly beautiful town, nestled in a canyon and surrounded by fragrant forest. It has a tucked away beach and an atmosphere that’s really quite unique. Visitors stay in ‘treehouses’, and the bars are leafy, basic and so, so chilled. If have the time, this is a great place to finish the trip and spend a few extra nights.

sailing in Turkey

So that concludes my guide to sailing in Turkey and exploring the Turquoise Coast by traditional gulet boat. I hope this guide is useful. both for choosing a tour company and find out about the ports. As mentioned, this route is often referred to as ‘the blue cruise’.

If you’re considering a longer trip, you might find my  two-week Turkey itinerary  here useful. I’ve also written guides to  Bodrum ,   Pamukkale ,  Ephesus , Istanbul  and  Cappadocia  here.

The Turkish coastline you visited looks stunning. I would love to do a boat ride around here. 🙂 Looks like you had a whale of time especially swimming in the water.

Your pictures are amazing I had to look at them twice! What an experience that must have been, I never knew Turkey was so breath taking. The paragliding… Wow! I really enjoyed your post looks like a great future vacation.

My hubs is currently standing over my shoulder absolutely drooling at the thought of being able to do this kind of sailing. Those views are so magnificent what a lovely way to travel, peaceful, quiet and so beautiful.

wow what a fabulous adventure! I would love to sail somewhere one day! I can’t believe I haven’t heard about Olu Deniz before ! Looks like a really nice beach! Your photos are amazing, I love the one of your jump especially ! So beautiful!

Picturesque coasts like those make it hard to leave the ship and explore. I could stare at that all day. But thankfully you pointed out numerous amazing things to do. I would thoroughly enjoy the paragliding. There is something about going through clouds that gives you an incredible feeling.

Turkey has always been one of the best countries I have visited until now, and can visit it many more times :), your pictures are just so amazing which makes me pack my bag and go to Turkey right away 🙂

Those are some amazing towns – Kas specially. It reminds me of a smaller town in Nepal called Bandipur with its cobbled pathways and bougainvillea. The water here is terrific, I definitely think that it is the best way to explore this coastline. Glad you shared your views on the same.

P.S: I love the pics

Really? I should definitely look into visiting there too!! 🙂 And thanks for your kind words about my photos!

This place is unbelievably beautiful. I’d book a trip here tomorrow if I could. The water looks so refreshing. I love beaches, I could stay here forever and not get bored for sure. The food looks really delicious as well. Definitely adding to my bucket list.

Eek, I’d also book a return trip back here tomorrow if I could! Thanks for your kind comment 🙂

The Turkish coastline seems so ethereal. The views, especially the sunset ones, are really breathtaking. I am sure it was a blissful experience cruising along on the turquoise coast of Turkey. The Olu Deniz beach looks gorgeous and the paragliding looks really exciting.

The beaches in Kas are different from the beaches in general in Turkey. Here the beach is rocky, not sandy. The width of the beach is also not large, not more than 10 meters. The beach here is very comfortable for sunbathing.

Like other summer cities in Turkey, Kas will be full of visitors from April to the end of October each year. The end of the tourist season in Kas is usually marked by celebrations in the town square. This moment also coincides with Turkey’s Independence Day on 29 October.

Boat trips are also a favorite activity in Kas. By boat, you can sail to Kekova, a place known as the “sinking city”. There are many activities you can do while sailing.

Although the city of Kas is located a little further from the resort towns in western Turkey, this city is worth a visit. And make sure you take a boat trip (tour) when you take your summer vacation in Kas Turki.

Our History

You live the dream. we take care of it.

We are a family business. My wife and I met whilst we were both studying economics at the prestigious Dokuz Eylul University of Izmir, Turkey. During the summer holidays, I started providing boat trips on my family’s boat in Kas and I was hooked. There was no going back! Straight after graduation I decided to follow my passion for boating and I have had no regrets. Fortunately my wife also has a deep love for the sea and is an essential member of our crew.

What customer say.

What an amazing day with Captain Ergun and his crew! I booked a private tour on a very nice and spacious gulet and to our surprise we were 'upgraded' to a huge boat that could hold up to 100 people 🤩! They had two private tours going out that day so we were the lucky ones that got the HUGE boat. There were 5 of us and 5 crew. We relaxed, swam, snorkeled, visited ruins of an ancient city, had one of the most amazing meals and swam to Big Pebble Beach! Definitely our best day in Kas 🇹🇷!

Awesome day at sea in Kas!

We have done a lot in Turkey – the amazing buildings in Istanbul, Konak Pier in Izmir, Cesme Beach, Bergama and Efes ruins, fantastic fish market food in Fethiye, Oludeniz Beach/Blue Lagoon, Patara Beach but the day we spent with Ergun and his wife has been the highlight. Lovely, knowledgeable, obliging hosts. I can’t rate this highly enough. Only 6 people on the cruise.. Thanks Captain Ergun – let us know when you have an espresso machine and a masseur on board and we’ll be back in a flash!

Day boat cruise from Kas Marina

This was an absolutely magical experience. We ventured in February, so we didn't swim or snorkel. But we basically had a whole boat to ourselves. All the positive reviews are true: Cpt. Ergun answered all of our questions and showed us the most beautiful hidden bays and ancient ruins. He shared some fascinating history facts about the area and then let us enjoy the view on our own. What is more, Cpt. Ergun took breathtaking photographs using his drone and kindly sent them to us. Lastly, we had a top-notch lunch on the boat, masterfully cooked by the deck officer Ali. I knew that lunch was included in the itinerary, but I had not expected a proper feast! It was delicious! This boat trip is the one to remember. Definitely would recommend it everyone!

Ekaterina M

Pure Magic!

I can not say enough good things about Captain Ergun and first mate (wife) Merve. They are the best! They know the area and are so kind and considerate. They will show you why Turkey is known for its hospitality. Their boat, the Evita, is gorgeous and perfect for the gorgeous waters surrounding Kas.The offer day trips and week long trips. I can not wait to go on the boat again. They are the best!

A BRITISH tourist has died from a heart attack moments after he jumped into the Red Sea on a sightseeing boat trip.

The 73-year-old man was with a group of friends in Marmaris, Turkey when he went to cool off in the water and was unable to get back on board as his horrified friends watched as he struggled.

A Brit has died of a heart attack in Turkey after jumping off a boat into the sea

Those on the boat quickly called the emergency services yesterday as they frantically tried all they could to help their pal.

The Brit was pulled from the water by a team of coastguards, cops and divers in two separate boats.

He was rushed to shore where paramedics drastically tried to revive him but was tragically declared dead on the beach moments after he arrived.

His body was transported to the local Marmaris State Hospital morgue.

The forensic medicine institution is now looking into the shock death to determine exactly what caused his heart attack .

Medics believe he could have suffered cold water shock when he entered the water.

The shock can occur when a person faces a rapid drop in temperature as their blood vessels close up and increase blood pressure.

The water in the Red Sea is typically much colder than the 25 degree weather in Turkey at this time of year.

An FCDO Spokesperson told The Sun: “We are supporting the family of a British national who died in Turkey and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Just last year a 43-year-old Brit also drowned on a family holiday to Turkey after he jumped into a lake to cool off.

Divers reportedly retrieved the man’s lifeless body from 40ft beneath the surface of the lake.

Middle East latest: Worshippers in Tehran chant 'death to Israel' after strike; man 'carrying explosives' arrested at Iranian consulate in Paris

Worshippers in Tehran gather at a demonstration just hours after an apparent Israeli strike in Iran. Elsewhere, a man is arrested at the Iranian consulate in Paris after claiming to be carrying explosives.

The US was given a last-minute warning from Israel about the drone attack against Iran, according to Italy's foreign minister.

Although the US has been tight-lipped over the matter, Italy's Antonio Tajani said American officials briefed G7 ministers in a closed-door session.

"There was no sharing of the attack by the US," he said.

"It was a mere information (sic)."

Worshippers in Tehran have gathered at a demonstration just hours after an apparent Israeli strike in Iran.

People chanted "death to Israel", "death to America" and "death to Zionists", while waving Iranian and Palestinian flags.

One man said: "They (Israelis) didn't do anything special, based off what I heard from news agencies.

"I don't think they have the courage to do anything after Iran's successful strike."

Israel has not commented on this morning's attack but sources have told our US partner NBC News that it was behind the strike.

It was launched in retaliation to Iran's missile and drone attack on Israel last weekend, which came after two of its generals were killed in a strike on its embassy in Syria on 1 April.

A man has been arrested at the Iranian consulate in Paris after claiming to be carrying explosives, our French partner network BFM reports.

French police earlier cordoned off the building after reports of a "suspicious man".

A Paris police official said the man was spotted around 11 am local time (9am UK time) and officers launched a special operation as soon as they were alerted.

The man's motives were not immediately clear.

Special intervention police have been mobilised to deal with the incident, it added.

We are still waiting for official confirmation from Iran that this attack was carried out from Israel.

Throughout the day, Iranian officials appear to be playing down the strike, telling reporters explosions were caused by its air defence system, there has been no damage caused and its forces only fired at a "suspicious object".

However, US officials have confirmed to a number of Western media outlets that Israel launched a strike in retaliation to Iran's 1 April attack in the early hours of this morning.

Our international affairs editor Dominic Waghorn has explained why Iran is "playing down" the attack.

He says Tehran's response has been "very telling".

"Before this, the Iranians said the tiniest invasion, the tiniest provocation will lead to a harsh response," he adds.

"So if they accepted or admitted there has been some kind of attack on their country then they will feel behoven to respond to it.

"The fact that they are playing it down I think looks like they're sticking to the scripts that Israel and Western allies will be relieved by."

Iran's air defence systems fired at a "suspicious object" over the central city of Isfahan in response to this morning's apparent Israeli attack, a senior army commander has said.

General Siavash Mihandoost told Iranian state television: "It caused no damage or incident at all."

"The sound heard early in the morning today in Isfahan was not an explosion, it was our powerful air defence firing at a suspicious object," he added.

The attack saw troops fire air defences at a major air base and a nuclear site near the city, according to Iranian officials.

It came nearly a week after Tehran launched a drone and missile assault on Israel following a missile strike targeting an air defense unit in southern Syria.

Israel had vowed to respond to Iran's unprecedented weekend attack, leaving the region bracing for further escalation after months of fighting in Gaza.

However, the Israeli military has still not commented on today's attack.

Sky News will host a special programme live from Jerusalem tonight, examining the apparent attack on Iran by Israel.

You will be able to watch Israel Attack with Yalda Hakim on Sky News at 5pm and 9pm.

The US Secretary of State has said he can see a future for Israel in which a "coalition of countries are working together to deal with the Iranian threat and to isolate it".

Antony Blinken said that would involve Israel being "integrated into the region with normal relations with its neighbours".

There also needs to be a "resolution to the Palestinian question", he added, which is "necessary to really deep root and achieve that coalition".

He went on: "It deals with the single biggest threat to Israel's security - and, for that matter, to the security of most countries in the region and our own - which is Iran and its proxies.

"But to get there, it's going to require calm in Gaza and it's going to require a clear pathway to a Palestinian state."

Antony Blinken has been asked why he's refusing to comment on the apparent Israeli attack on Iran in the early hours of this morning.

He responds: "I am going to be incredibly boring and not make your day by saying again I am not going to speak on what's been reported."

He also reiterates the line he's been saying throughout the conference: "The United States has not been involved in any offensive operations."

The US "cannot support a major military operation in Rafah", Antony Blinken says.

Taking questions from reporters, the US secretary of state is asked about the Israeli military's apparent plans to launch an operation in the southern Gaza city.

The idea has been widely condemned by the international community, with more than 1.4 million Palestinians currently living in the city and many of them displaced from other parts of Gaza.

"We believe a major military operation with a large presence of a civilian population would have terrible consequences for the population," he says.

He adds that getting  people out of harms way would be a "monumental task" and the US is yet to see a plan to evacuate them safely.

"We are committed as Israel is to ensuring that Gaza cannot be controlled by Hamas," he says, adding that the US believes this "can be achieved by other means".

The US Secretary of State has refused to comment on reports of an Israeli strike in Iran last night.

"I'm not going to speak to these reported events," Antony Blinken said in Capri.

He added: "All I can say is that for our part, and for the entire G7, our focus has been on de-escalation, on avoiding a larger conflict.

"And, actually, that's been true since day one after the horrific events of October 7th [when Hamas launched an attack in Israel]."

He added: "A big part of our approach has been to prevent the conflict from spreading to avoid escalation everywhere.

"And that's a common policy across the G7, and it's very much our approach now.

"Those efforts will continue."
