Visiting Cap dAgde for the 1st Time

Naturist quarters resort entrance

The Surreal First-Time Experience at Cap d’Agde

The most surreal part of a trip to the resort village in Cap d’Agde can be on your first ever visit, as you enter the resort for the first time.

You have planned the trip, anticipated what the experience will be like and you will have your own idea of what to expect and what goes on in the resort.

As with any holiday destination worldwide though, it is rarely the same as you imagine and with a resort such as Cap, the expectations can be even more dynamic given that this is a clothes-free resort.

So what should you expect when first coming to this resort?

As your first-ever trip to the resort gets closer and closer, the combination of excitement and nervousness is the cocktail of emotions you will feel.

What really and exactly will it be like when entering the resort?

What will it look like and will you see people walking around naked as soon as you enter.

What if you get nervous and do not feel like taking my clothes off?

Is it easy to get into the resort when reaching the entrance?

Entering Cap d’Agde Naturist Resort

On arriving at the resort entrance, there is an office just to the right of the main gate (as you look in towards the resort).

In the front-office, you can get the entrance card and this will normally cost roughly Euros 15.

As you enter through the main entrance gate, you will not actually see that many people immediately as you will have a couple of minutes’ walk or 30 seconds drive to your apartment, rental agency office or campsite .

The further you go into the resort, the more people you will begin to see.

There are people who do walk clothed around the resort i.e. they might be day visitors heading out to the clothes area, or even just arrived themselves and summoning the bravery to shed their clothes.

Once you reach the beach area though, you will be faced almost exclusively with naked bodies.

Shed my Clothes Right Away?

You do not have to get down to your birthday suit as soon as you arrive but certainly, it is best to get into the spirit of things as soon as possible if you really want to make embrace the reason why you chose Cap d’Agde.

You will also find that the sooner you get nude, the easier it will be. The longer you wait, the more difficult it might be.

If you do find yourself suddenly shy to embrace the naturist element of the resort, what you will find is that a walk down to the beach will suddenly relieve your concerns.

99% of people on the beach are clothes free and you will soon realise that you will look more silly with clothes on than you will without any.

Walking along the sea-front wearing anything will get your stares given that you will be the odd one out.

Once inside the resort, you will want first to get checked in i.e. with your rental agency , apartment, hotel or to the campsite (easier to find your credit card when you have clothes on)!

Once the booking and bags are all sorted and accommodation organised, just head towards the beach and get an immediate appreciation for the resort and the feel for the enjoyment ahead.

Cap d'Agde beach

A Typical Day in the Naturist Resort

Report by Pam and John

We do not tend to lie in bed at Cap dAgde in the mornings as there is too much to do and see, so we are up at 8.30 or 9.00 am.

We often breakfast at L’Horizon where it is just so nice to sit naked on the terrace.

We take a leisurely breakfast of bread, croissants, coffee or sometimes bacon and eggs and enjoys the views.

The Mediterranean shimmers and slowly people start to fill the beach, bathing nude under the warm sun.

Enjoying time away from the daily toil back home, afterwards perhaps a little shopping, including checking out the fashions and purchase for Mrs P to wear in the evening.

This year in our second week however, we stayed at Babylone , so the routine varied a little.

A brief stroll through the village to the bakery and supermarket.

The proprietor of the bakery is so jolly, a bonjour, bon vacance for each customer.

This week, back to the apartment and breakfast on the terrace.

Then a spell by the pool and then we often go to the beach around lunchtime and may park ourselves on the sunbeds at  Les Galions or this year we enjoyed the beds below the beach restaurant just before the couple’s beach.

The service here was great and the wines and food enjoyable. Then a read of the newspaper or a book and time for a walk along the beach to cool off in the breeze and to enjoy the views.

Melrose Bar in Cap d'Agde

In the late afternoon or early evening, we return to the apartment and dress for the night ahead.

We like to dine at Jardin 16; always reliable and the chance to chat over dinner and perhaps make conversation with the neighbouring table.

This year we met a lovely couple from London who were both 84 and had been going to Cap D’Agde for many years!

Afterwards a promenade, perhaps a drink at Waikiki Beach to take in the sights.

Melrose Bar is a favourite of ours and on a good night, the atmosphere rocks and the sexual tension is so acute.

We always try and take in a mousse party and this year were lucky enough to be at Babylone when they had a pool party for the SDC crowd. And what a party it was!

We remember all these lovely experiences and especially as the winter draws close, they keep us going until summer next year when we can do it all again!

What type of Food is available

Unless you have been to the resort before, it is really hard to be sure what facilities are available within the resort and what you will need the resort for?

People often wonder if you have to dress up, for example, to go shopping outside of the resort gates?

The situation is that you can get everything you need within the resort and this includes food.

Inside the naturist resort there are roughly:

  • 12 restaurants within the resort
  • Several take away style shops
  • Places which serve breakfast (French style of course)
  • 3 Supermarkets

You do not need to bring food with you because you will find everything you will need available in the resort.

Hi, Very good description of the naturist resort of Cap d’Agde for an First Time Visitor, We are a couple, aged 45 and spending our summer hollidays for the first 2 weeks in August at Cap d’Agde since 2006. Indeed when the weather is fine, during the day, most people are walking around the resort naked, some women wear a pareo. We notived over the last 3 summers that a majority,+-70 %, of the women have little or no pubic hair. Most of the them are fully shaved or waxed. You can 3 Beauty shops inside the resort offering complete pubic hair waxing. In August 2011 Joelle had her pubic hair completely waxed at the beauty shop Ladybel near Port Ambone.

Hi! What about the sunbeds and sunshades? Are they for rent there? How much it might cost per day? Many thanks!

' src=

Hi Mario. Yes, there are two sections on the beach where you can rent sunbeds and the come with a shade cover or umbrella. I am not sure of the prices for this year but it is something like 15 Euros a day each I think. I am not totally sure of the prices. For 2 people though expect o pay around Euros 30. This is why my wife and I ended up buying our own from the Green Bazaar shop inside the resort.

Visit Cap d'Agde, France

Cap d'Agde is the 'resort' part of Agde , a pleasant Languedoc town a little distance to the north. It is east of Beziers and south-west of Montpellier .

The resort has been almost entirely built since the late 1960's at the foot of an ancient volcano and based around a large marina lined with nice apartment blocks, and has easy access to large sandy beaches.

Despite being quite new, Cap d'Agde has won awards for its architectural integrity and is not what you might expect when you read that it is a 1960's seaside resort - although it is true that there are places where it clearly dates from that epoch!

Exploring Cap d'Agde

The main centre of Cap d'Agde falls into several different parts, each with their own characteristics - but each having a plentiful range of holiday accommodation, and access to beaches and all facilities. Taken together it is a very popular destination on this part of the Languedoc coast.

Start your visit at the main harbour area, which is lively and pleasant for a promenade as well as having easy access to some of the popular attractions here such as the aquarium, aqualand and the Museum of Ephèbe. The town also has a highly regarded golf course.

Museums may not be your main interest on holiday but the Museum of Ephèbe contains lots of artefacts found in the sea from both the medieval and ancient Greek and Roman periods, and includes some very impressive ancient bronze statues.

The fort you can see just off the coast at Cap d'Agde dates from the 17th century (although an earlier castle stood in the same place). The Fort de Brescou is built on a submerged volcano and was used as a prison until the middle of the 19th century.

Cap d'Agde beaches

The popularity of Cap d'Agde is largely based on the number and quality of beaches here. Altogether there are more than 14 kilometres of sandy beaches some of which can be reached by shuttle bus from Cap d'Agde.

Together these beaches offer a wide range of options, with some of the beaches offering all possible facilities and sports and others remaining more wild.

While the long beaches such as Rochelongue, Richelieu and Roquille attract the most visitors we suggest that among the smaller beaches you visit La Grande Conque, a small beach of grey-black sand created from volcanic rock and in a scenic setting.

Bench and beach at Cap d'Agde

Naturism at Cap d'Agde

Cap d'Agde is well known for its naturist (nudist) section where the beach and surrounding facilities including shops, restaurants and banks are all part of the naturist part of Cap d'Agde, one of the largest developed resorts of this type in the world.

Because of this extensive naturist section, Cap d'Agde is very popular with people from all around the world who prefer to holiday in this way. Most of the section is 'clothing optional' but the five kilometres long beach in this part of the resort is naturist only.

Note for naturists visiting Cap d'Agde: if you are especially bold, visit Cap d'Agde on December 31 for a mass naturist swim in water that will be, well, invigorating! Very popular apparently although I haven't found the time to check it myself...

Don't worry if you are not a naturist - you can still visit Cap d'Agde and find plenty to amuse yourself - the naturist area is only a part of the whole resort.

best time to visit cap d'agde

My wife and I have been talking about a visit and wonder when the best time is, weather wise, not school holidays, etc.

I would also like to know a bit more about the Hotel Jardin d' eden and the accommmodation at this establishment.

At the beach area do they have lounge chairs and umbrellas available

Also some of the better clubs to visit at night in the village itself.

Any responses would be appreciated.

From your mention of Le Jardin d'Eden (JdE) I presume that you intend to visit the 12% of Cap d'Agde that is the Village Naturiste .

My succinct answer is :

Visit in June .

JdE is not a hotel in the usual sense - no bar or restaurant . Otherwise , it is luxurious by local standards . The patrons tend to be `liberal` .

Beach furniture is available for rent , though not as part of a JdE booking .

Better clubs in order of preference for your age group : Le Jul's ; Le Tantra ; Le Glamour .

' class=

When to come weatherwise. Well the peak is July into the start of August, when the French are on holidays and it's really chocca. I personally prefer going there earlier such as in June when it's busy but not crazy busy. The weather is generally nice through June to August.

Jardin d'Eden is a brand new, just completed complex. It's located as a new building, tucked between the Heliopolis building and the beach. If you go to the Genevieve Naturisme website, you can find info on it.

Basically there are a number of large apartment buildings at Cap d'Agde within the naturist quarter which are privately owned and leased out for accommodation. The most expensive and luxury accommodation is Jardin d'Eden, and unlike other apartments you can book it however many nights, whereas other apartments you have to arrive and leave on a Saturday, i.e you pay by the week, not the night. However it is a lot more expensive to stay in, and many people prefer just to stay in a cheap apartment in Heliopolis or Port Nature which are very close to beach and restaurants and clubs, but are a fraction of the price (say for example around 50 Euro a night).

Jardin d'Eden is set up as a "couples only" apartment complex, which may mean there's more dodginess / action that may go on there than any of the other apartment buildings which have families staying in them as well as couples. I'm not sure on this, as it's brand new...so this is purely speculation.

It has its own heated pool, for use by guests of the Jardin d'Eden only, as I understand. Each apartment is more like a studio set up, with open plan kind of area for bedroom, lounge, kitchen, bathroom and outdoor balcony area. As with almost all of the Cap d'Agde apartments, it is fully furnished and set up so you can self-cater your food as it includes cooking equipment and plates and glasses etc.

Jardin d'Eden apartments have outdoor furniture on your balcony, but not furniture to take to the beach. There are two areas on the beach kind of sectioned off, where you pay to have a lounger and umbrella for the day, and it includes service for drinks (it's attached to a beachfront cafe). Off the top of my head I think it was around 20 Euro for us per day, but that's just a guess really from memory.

Clubs...well the well-established more mature crowd go to Le Juls, which play popular music from the 80s, 90s and contemporary. The two big popular clubs for a younger crowd are Glamour (right beside Jardin d'Eden unless it has been moved), and Tantra (a short walk along towards the tip of the Port nature building, but right on the beach virtually. They all have dance flooor, bar and playrooms sectioned off separately.

There is also a very popular bar, Melrose, in Port Nature building which is always buzzy and crowded and fun, but it is not a nightclub, only a bar. It has dancing also, women clients often jump on stage barrels as the whim takes them.

Then there are the smaller clubs, such as the couples only club

2 + 2, and another club which is also a sauna type club but open to single men as well most nights, called Nat Hamman. There are others too, can't remember all the names. But they are mostly located in Port Ambonne building (which is the smaller half-ring building facing the port, a short walk from Heliopolis and Port Nature). These are basically swinging bars and usually occupied by more mature people, with sauna and spa, and playrooms.

Hope this helps.

We draw particular cautious attention to our reliance on the MERRA-2 model-based reconstructions for a number of important data series. While having the tremendous advantages of temporal and spatial completeness, these reconstructions: (1) are based on computer models that may have model-based errors, (2) are coarsely sampled on a 50 km grid and are therefore unable to reconstruct the local variations of many microclimates, and (3) have particular difficulty with the weather in some coastal areas, especially small islands.

We further caution that our travel scores are only as good as the data that underpin them, that weather conditions at any given location and time are unpredictable and variable, and that the definition of the scores reflects a particular set of preferences that may not agree with those of any particular reader.

Looking for a place to stay in Cap d’Agde that won’t break the bank? Fear not, because there are plenty of budget-friendly options available. First up, hostels.

While they may not be as glamorous as five-star hotels, hostels offer a unique and social experience for travelers on a budget. Many hostels in Cap d’Agde offer communal kitchens, where you can cook your own meals and save money on dining out.

Plus, staying in a shared dorm room can be a great way to make new friends from all over the world. Another affordable option is guesthouses.

These are typically small, family-run businesses that offer cozy accommodations at reasonable prices. You’ll often find guesthouses located in residential neighborhoods, offering an authentic glimpse into local life in Cap d’Agde.

Some guesthouses even include breakfast with your stay, which is an added bonus. Consider renting an apartment for your stay in Cap d’Agde .

This can be especially cost-effective if you’re traveling with a group or family and can split the cost of the rental. Plus, having access to your own kitchen means you can cook your own meals and save money on dining out.

Where You Can Stretch Your Dollar Further

When it comes to stretching your dollar further while traveling in Cap d’Agde , look for accommodations that offer free or included amenities. For example, many hostels and guesthouses include breakfast with your stay – take advantage of this and load up on coffee and croissants before heading out for the day. In addition to breakfasts included with your stay, communal kitchens are another great perk to look for when choosing affordable accommodations.

Not only do they allow you to save money by cooking some of your own meals instead of eating out every day but they also provide opportunities for socializing with other travelers. Consider the location of your accommodations.

Staying farther away from popular tourist areas can often save you money on room rates, but be sure to factor in transportation costs if you’ll need to take taxis or public transportation to get around. If you’re willing to walk a bit farther or take a bike rental, you can save money and get some exercise at the same time.

best time to visit cap d'agde

2024 is already shaping up to be another banner year for nudity around the world with a nude cruise and nude beach weddings on the horizon.

Earlier this year, tour and travel company Bare Necessities announced an 11-day voyage from Miami to the Caribbean in collaboration with Norwegian Cruise Line. It’s due to set sail in February 2025.

With stopovers in the Bahamas and Puerto Rico, “The Big Nude Boat” is billed as a “once in a lifetime experience” with amenities designed to “fit everyone’s style of bare cruising.”

And couples will soon be able to tie the knot sans clothes at Is Benas Beach in Sardinia, which has a naturist-designated area.

The news was confirmed in May by Luigi Tedeschi, mayor of San Vero Milis, the closest town to the beach.

“Nudity has nothing to do with sex. For [naturists], it’s a philosophy of life, and is linked to nature,” Tedeschi said. “It should be respected – so why not?”

Meanwhile, there are more places than ever to sun, swim or build sandcastles au naturel at clothing-optional beaches around the world.

From rocky coastlines to talcum-powder fine sands and big city bays to secluded shores, there are now hundreds of beaches where it’s perfectly legal (or at least de facto legal) to frolic beside the sea in nothing more than your birthday suit.

“Soft, smooth sand, warm ocean breeze, gentle ocean waves and lots of other naturists makes for a great clothing-optional beach,” says Nicky Hoffman of The Naturist Society, who’s also the managing editor of Nude & Natural magazine and co-author of “The World’s Best Nude Beaches & Resorts.”

While clothing-optional beach destinations may seem like a modern invention, it’s actually quite an old idea, a product of the otherwise prudish Victorian era.

During the 1880s, American poet Walt Whitman extolled the virtues of the “Adamic air bath” – his nude walkabouts and swims along Timber Creek in New Jersey, writing of “the free exhilarating ecstasy of nakedness in Nature.”

Channeling that same vibe, the naturist movement took off in Europe and North America during the first half of the 20th century, with city parks, camp grounds and eventually beaches established for those who wanted to experience nature nude in their most natural state.

One of the spin-offs of the socially and sexually liberal 1960s was a “free beach” movement that saw a proliferation of nude beaches around the world.

And their popularity continues today, with more and more popping up each year. Here are 24 of the best nude beaches you can visit around the world in 2024:

Playa Naturista Chihuahua, Uruguay

Located about a 30-minute drive from Punta del Este, Uruguay’s best-known nude beach overlooks Portezuelo Bay on the Atlantic coast.

Photogenic dunes and water temperatures that reach 25 Celsius (77 F) and higher even in the Southern Hemisphere winter add to the strand’s allure.

After decades as an unofficial naked getaway, Chihuahua finally achieved legal status in 2000.

Since then, amenities have expanded to include the Hotel El Refugio Nudista Naturista clothing-optional resort.

Playa Naturista Chihuahua, Avenida Las Amarras, 20003 Chihuahua, Uruguay

Nida Nude Beach, Lithuania

The chilly Baltic Sea may not seem like the most obvious place to skinny dip. But this gorgeous strand on the long, sandy Curonian Spit offers one of Europe’s most picturesque spots to take it all off.

With its wildflower-covered dunes (among the highest in Europe) and shoreline forest, the beach was the focus of a 19th-century artists’ colony that attracted many of the leading painters, poets and writers of the time.

Walk far enough south along the strand and you eventually come to a fence that marks the Lithuania-Russia border.

Nida Nude Beach , Nidos-Smiltynės pl., Nida, Lithuania

Agesta Beach, Sweden

Sweden may be home to many beaches where nudity is accepted, but Agesta Beach, located roughly 15 kilometers (9 miles) south of Stockholm, is its only official nude beach.

Based in the southern end of the lake Magelungen, Agesta Beach’s sandy shores are popular with locals as well as visitors looking for an escape from the bustling capital city.

Open from May to September, this beach is very well looked after, with picnic tables, BBQ areas, public bathrooms and play areas for children available.

Agesta Beach, Huddinge, Sweden

Little Palm Beach, Waiheke, New Zealand

Although it’s technically legal to go naked on any beach in personal-liberty-loving New Zealand, the nation’s naturists tend to congregate at well-known clothing-optional spots like Little Palm Beach on Waiheke Island.

Reaching the secluded strand entails a 40-to-60-minute ferry ride from Auckland, a taxi or rideshare to the island’s north shore, and then a short downhill hike.

You can top or tail your beach adventure at Waiheke’s many wineries, restaurants, and art galleries.

Little Palm Beach, Miro Road, Waiheke Island 1081, New Zealand

Nugal Beach, Croatia

Flanked by sheer cliffs and shades by pine trees, this remote beach on the mainland opposite Brač island is reached via a narrow path that seems ready made for goats rather than people seeking an apparel-free escape on the Adriatic.

Be sure to bring a thick towel or even a beach chair — like many Croatian beaches the surface is pebbles rather than sand.

Nugal is about a half-an-hour walk from the nearest town, although it can also be reached by boat or sea kayak from Makarska or Tučepi.

Moshup Beach, Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts

Perched at the island’s western extreme, Moshup is a long curving strand that wraps around a headline crowned by the historic Gay Head Lighthouse (built in 1799).

Located right below the ancient light, the clothing optional portion lies beneath rust-colored sandstone cliffs that were declared a National Natural Monument in 1966.

Moshup is open free of charge to anyone who wants to take their clothes off, as opposed to Lucy Vincent, the island’s private nude beach.

Black’s Beach, La Jolla, California

Long, wide and blessed with great surf, the beach is reached via the zig-zag Ho Chi Minh Trail from the cliff-top Torrey Pines Gliderport near the University of California, San Diego.

Black’s Beach, Torrey Pines Scenic Drive, San Diego, CA 92037

Lady Bay Beach, Sydney, Australia

Although it sometimes seems like just about any beach in Australia is clothing optional, there are a number of official nude beaches here such as Lady Bay. (also known as Lady Jane Beach.)

Perched just inside the South Head of Sydney Harbour, it’s small and narrow, but incredibly secluded for such a big city location.

The rocky ledges around South Head are also used for nude sunbathing.

Lady Bay Beach, Watson’s Bay, Sydney, Australia

Buhne 16, Sylt, Germany

“Grin and bare it” might well be the motto for nudists on this North Sea island, where the average water temperature in summer is a chilly 17 C (63 F).

Technically all of the beaches on Sylt are clothing optional, but Buhne 16 was the first and is still the foremost location for nude sunbathing along the German shore.

It’s a place where beachgoers can chill in the famous blue and white striped wicker beach chairs or let it all hang out at summer beach parties.

Wreck Beach, Vancouver, Canada

Billed as one of the world’s longest nude beaches at 7.8 kilometers (4.9 miles) long, Wreck Beach is actually a series of sandy strands, pebble flats and rocky outcrops wrapped around the end of Point Grey.

With the University of British Columbia just across the street, a steady stream of students and teachers have shed their clothes on this beach since the early 1970s, when it first became popular.

Evergreen trees along the shore and snowcapped peaks across the water complement the Canadian ambiance.

Wreck Beach , Vancouver, British Columbia; Canada

Red Beach, Crete, Greece

This secluded shore on the south side of Crete is a hotspot for nude sunbathing in Greece .

Named after its ocher-colored sand and cliffs, Red Beach (or Kokkini Ammos) is reached via a 20-minute hike from Matala or a very short boat ride from the village waterfront.

Pioneered by Euro hippies during the 1960s, the beach offers chair and umbrella rentals and is home to a funky little bar called Yianni’s that’s renowned for its mojitos.

Note: the mysterious rock carvings at the end of the beach are a modern creation and definitely not ancient Minoan relics.

Red Beach, Matala, Crete 702 00, Greece

Callantsoog Beach, Netherlands

Callantsoog is the oldest nudist beach in the Netherlands, having been officially recognized as a nudist beach since 1973.

Situated 60 kilometers (37 miles) north of Amsterdam, near the coastal town of Callantsoog, this beautiful stretch of sand enjoys Blue Flag status and is a great place to spot seals.

Its designated nudist section is marked between two poles.

Those keen to get even closer to nature can pay a visit to the nearby Zwanenwater, a protected nature reserve and home to the largest natural dune lakes in Europe.

Callantsoog Beach, Strandslag Dorpsplein, 1759 Callantsoog, Netherlands

Anse de Grande Saline, St. Barts

While the Caribbean may be full of wonderful, chilled out beaches, this wild, white sand strand on the rear side of St. Barts is one of the few places on the islands where public nudity is tolerated (although sunbathing naked is technically prohibited in St. Barts.)

Anse de Grande Saline (or Saline Beach) is another self-catering beach. Visitors will need to bring along everything they need for a day at the shore, especially sunscreen, as there is no shade to speak of.

L’Esprit, an excellent French restaurant, is within walking distance of Grand Saline and well worth a visit. Just make sure to put your clothes back on before heading over.

Anse de Grande Saline, St. Barthélemy

Platja des Cavallet, Ibiza, Spain

Set between the deep blue Mediterranean and multicolored salt pans near Ibiza’s southernmost point, official nudist beach Es Cavallet is separated into various different sections, including a beach club party section, a gay scene and a more secluded, middle section where the clothing-free crowd hang out.

However nude sunbathers aren’t the only beings who frequent this area. Those bright pink things you’ll see pacing in the background aren’t sunburned tourists, but rather flamingos that like to gather in the shallow salines.

Little Beach, Maui, Hawaii

Flanked by ancient lava flows and backed by a volcanic cinder cone, Little Beach would be super-cool even if you couldn’t take your clothes off.

Part of Makena State Park on the island’s southeast coast, it overlooks a national marine sanctuary renowned for its sea turtles, dolphins, whales and tropical fish.

Gnarled trees behind the sand provide a modicum of shade and the cove is well protected for swimming.

Additionally, a drum circle and fire dancers entertain the crowd during Sunday sunsets.

Cap d’Agde beach, France

Sometimes called the “Naked City,” Cap d’Agde Naturist Village is the world’s largest clothing-optional beach resort, attracting as many as 40,000 guests on any given day during high season.

Visitors are free to be naked wherever they want – restaurants and stores, post offices or banks, sailing their boat or lounging on the long public beach (where nudity is obligatory, even for those not staying at the resort).

Non residents can stay overnight at the naturist hotel, camp ground or rental units.

Is Benas Beach, Sardinia, Italy

Situated along Sardinia’s west coast close to the town of San Vero Milis, Is Benas is known for its remoteness and pristine environment.

The idyllic beach has had a partially hidden naturist-designated area for the past two years.

Mayor Luigi Tedeschi of nearby San Vero Milis recently confirmed that local authorities had given the go ahead for couples to say their vows there au naturel at Is Benas in the future.

“We have this beach, a place that lends itself brilliantly to naturism,” Tedeschi told CNN. “And then we thought, let’s make a beach for weddings. If people want to marry nude, they can.”

The beach is right next to the more famous Is Arenas Beach, while the ruins of Tharros, a Roman city dominating a thin peninsula, can also be found nearby.

South Africa ’s only official nude beach – and perhaps the only legal clothing-not-obligatory strand on the entire African continent – is located in the Mpenjati Nature Reserve south of Durban.

Its legal status was achieved in 2014, but this came with a list of prohibitions including no staring, no photography, no suggestive behavior, etc.

Local clergy and others continue to mount protests (legal and otherwise) against the naked designation.

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico

Zipolite Beach in Mexico is tolerant of nude sunbathing.(Shutterstock via CNN Newsource)

Live your “Y Tu Mamá También” fantasies at the beach where so many of the scenes from the sensuous 2001 Mexican movie starring Gael García Bernal were shot on location.

Pioneered by Mexican and American hippies during the 1960s, the strand stretches about two kilometers with rocky bluffs at either end, and is famed as a clothing-optional beach (although it isn’t legal here.)

While the main beach here is backed by budget hotels and cafes, a tiny sliver of sand at the eastern end called Playa del Amor offers far more privacy.

Playa Zipolite, San Pedro Pochutla, Oaxaca, Mexico

Metsoke Dragot, Israel

Float nude in the warm, ultra-buoyant salty water and smear your entire naked body with soothing, mineral-infused black mud at this rocky beach on the western shore of the Dead Sea.

Perhaps the only place in the Middle East where any kind of public nudity is tolerated, Metsoke Dragot is located about an hour’s drive from Jerusalem and requires a short but rough drive along an unpaved road to reach the shoreline.

Primitive camping is aloud along the shore. The only nearby hotel and bar is the cliff top Metzoke Dragot Travelers Village.

Metsoke Dragot, Highway 90, Dead Sea, Israel

Praia Massarandupió, Bahia, Brazil

The string bikinis on Copacabana may expose an awful lot of Brazilian flesh, but not nearly as much as this naturist beach along the Bahia coast.

A two-hour drive north of Salvador, the nude beach is about a one-kilometer walk from the parking lot along the shoreline flanked by coconut palms, rolling dunes and very surfable waves.

Spiaggia di Guvano, Vernazza, Italy

Spiaggia de Guvano has been popular with nude bathers since the 1960s.(Shutterstock via CNN Newsource)

Located on the gorgeous Cinque Terre, this primo Italian nude beach looks like something out of a movie (think “Swept Away ” – the 1974 version directed by Lina Wertmüller.)

Adding to the beach’s mystique is the fact that it can only be reached via an old, abandoned railway tunnel (bring a flashlight) on a path from Corniglia village.

Guvano is totally primitive, with no facilities of any kind, so bear this in mind when planning your visit.

The beach is also pebble rather than sand, but the water is clear, clean and gorgeous.

Spiaggia di Guvano, 19018 Vernazza, SP, Italy

Vecaki Beach, Riga, Latvia

Edged with pine trees, this Latvian beach is as calming as it is beautiful.

Based close to the capital city of Riga and a relatively short walk from Vecaki train station, it’s known for its shimmering waters, stunning sunsets and of course, its nudist section.

The zone, which happens to be the biggest nudist beach area in the country, includes a beach volleyball area that’s a big hit with local residents.

Vecaki Beach, Selgas iela 20, Riga 1030, Latvia

Haulover Beach Park, Miami, Florida

The most popular public nude beach in the United States, Haulover attracts more than 1.3 million bare bottomed people to its white sands and warm water each year.

The clothing-optional portion, marked at either end by picket fences, offers rental beach chairs and umbrellas, as well as lifeguards.

Given the stellar weather in south Florida, there’s usually someone in the buff on any given day.

But the biggest crowds gather during National Nude Recreation Week in July and whenever Haulover is trying to set a new Guinness World Record for skinny dipping.

best time to visit cap d'agde

My wife and I have been talking about a visit and wonder when the best time is, weather wise, not school holidays, etc.

I would also like to know a bit more about the Hotel Jardin d' eden and the accommmodation at this establishment.

At the beach area do they have lounge chairs and umbrellas available

Also some of the better clubs to visit at night in the village itself.

Any responses would be appreciated.

' class=
