St Kitts and Nevis holiday FAQs

Make the most of your st kitts and nevis holiday.

Relaxation’s not for everyone. If you can’t just sit on a sunlounger, don’t worry: St Kitts and Nevis welcome explorers of all types. And with everything within easy reach on the islands, there’s no excuse not to see it all.

What are the best things to do in St Kitts and Nevis?

1. St Kitts’ Brimstone Hill Fortress is the country’s only UNESCO-listed site. It’s an enormous, towering fort which took over a century to construct and still has an excellent vantage point, commanding amazing views over its surroundings. And for more great views: the St Kitts Scenic Railway is a really easy way to admire the sugar cane plantations from a picturesque locomotive.

2. The communities on St Kitts and Nevis come together throughout the year to celebrate: there’s a Golf Tournament, a Latin Fiesta and even a restaurant week. But the main event is the St Kitts Music Festival, which has run for 23 years and seen the likes of Chaka Khan and UB40 play on stage – let it provide the perfect relaxing soundtrack to your holiday.

3. Many St Kitts beaches sit along its skinny southeast peninsula. Beach-hop from Frigate Bay down to Turtle Beach, where you'll find good views of Nevis. Nevis has plenty of lovely sandy spots, too. Head to Oualie Beach and on to Lover’s Beach for the reverse view back to St Kitts – or drive down to the three-mile long Pinney’s Beach. On both islands, the Caribbean-facing beaches are generally more sheltered than the Atlantic side.

4. The mountainous interiors of St Kitts and Nevis afford lovely views – if you’re up for a hike to reach them. You can explore the slopes of dormant volcano Mt. Liamuiga on St Kitts. Nevis’s cloud-covered central volcano might not always offer clear views, but it does have a number of trails – and you’re more likely to spot a vervet monkey than another person.

5. Plantain chips and fresh seafood – especially spiny lobster – star on most of the islands’ menus. St Kitts has a couple of great restaurants, including The Spice Mill, a romantic, open-air venue with views over Nevis. As for your drinks order: the popular Carib beer is brewed on the island – and most resorts have their own special rum punch recipe, so you should probably sample a few.

What holiday type in St Kitts and Nevis is right for me?

Pack your trainers: St Kitts and Nevis offer great terrain for hikers and anyone who wants to enjoy lovely hilltop views. Golfers will be pleased to find an 18 hole course where they can drive a ball from the Atlantic Ocean all the way to the Caribbean Sea. Keen divers might be surprised to find rare black coral trees flourishing underwater at some of the islands’ dive sites. Music lovers will discover the island's annual festival: featuring enough reggae to make the palm trees sway. It’s all here on St Kitts and Nevis.

Where are the best places to visit in St Kitts and Nevis?

Two islands in one tiny nation in the Leeward Isles, St Kitts and Nevis are separated by a two mile stretch of water known as ‘The Narrows’. St Kitts is the larger of the two; fewer travellers make it over to Nevis, but this is an oversight. Whilst St Kitts and Nevis have got all the hallmarks of a traditional island escape – beaches, rainforest, water sports and cocktails – everything’s just that little bit quieter. In fact, they say that there are actually more vervet monkeys than people on the island – and most visitors would like to keep it that way. Those who are let in on the secret find themselves coming back time and time again.

The majority of visitors start their St Kitts holidays here, with our flights landing near Basseterre, the colourful port capital. Nearby is the nightlife strip: Frigate Bay, where locals and tourists alike come for the bars and restaurants. Many visitors remain on this island – chugging along on the famous St Kitts Scenic Railway and checking off the impressive UNESCO-listed Brimstone Fort. There’s a wider range of hotels on this island than on Nevis – from self catering suites to utterly luxurious plantation properties. You could hire a car – or just use taxis to bumble around – and make your way to the jungly interior.

Some people say Nevis holidays are like stepping back in time. Little Nevis is what the Caribbean used to be. It’s a gem of an island, with a halo of beaches all around and a minute capital: the colonial-style Charlestown. Volcanic Mount Nevis rises out of its middle, normally wearing its little hat of clouds. The volcano means there are hot springs on the island – a heavy hint that you should really come here to relax. Even getting here is easy: a private water taxi takes just six minutes from St Kitts, or you can take the inexpensive local ferry straight from Basseterre to Charlestown.

Zika Virus Infection

This country has been categorised as having a risk of Zika (ZIKV) virus transmission.

ZIKV is mainly spread through mosquito bites. The mosquito responsible most commonly bites during daylight hours and is common in towns and cities.

The illness is usually mild but infection during pregnancy may lead to babies being born with birth defects. There is no vaccine currently available against ZIKV.

Advice for All Travellers

You should practice strict mosquito bite avoidance at all times. Do not travel without adequate travel insurance . Seek pre-travel health advice from a travel health professional 6 to 8 weeks in advance of travel.

Additional recommendations for pregnant travellers or those planning pregnancy

If you are planning pregnancy in the very near future you should consider whether you should avoid travel to this country.

  • contact your GP, obstetrician or midwife for further advice, even if you have not been unwell or had any symptoms of ZIKV infection
  • use barrier methods of contraception during and after travel and for the duration of your pregnancy, even in you have not been unwell or had any symptoms of ZIKV infection
  • If you develop symptoms of ZIKV infection, it is recommended that you avoid becoming pregnant for a further 2 months following your recovery
  • 2 months afterwards if you are female
  • 3 months afterwards if you are male or if both partners travelled

These measures reduce the chance of sexual transmission of ZIKV and/or the risk of ZIKV infection in pregnancy.

For further information, see Zika virus infection page.

A Life Well Travelled

St kitts – what to do in st kitts.

St Kitts is an island with so much to offer. As well as the usual delightful beaches one might expect from a Caribbean Island it’s an adventurous place with a whole range of activities for the discerning traveller. There’s a rich history and culture and those with an interest can visit the sites of sugar factories and rum distilleries. There are dormant volcanoes and hills giving incredible views over St Kitts and the neighbouring islands, and you have your pick of how to explore, be that vigorous hikes, ATV excursions or Jeep Safaris.

If you’re planning what to do St Kitts then the following is a guide for making the most of your time on this beautiful island; taking in the sights, partaking in adventure activities, learning about the history and of course as the locals say ‘limin’.

What to do in St Kitts to get familiar with the area

To get yourself accustomed to the area, start your trip with a downtown ‘safari’ tour on an open sided bus. Giving you a glimpse of the strip, Port Zante, downtown Basseterre and zooming past vast golf courses, it’s a great way to see some of what the island has to offer and paves the way for the rest of the week.

One good suggestion is  Sir Walter Safari Tours;   friendly and knowledgeable he will take you to some important spots downtown while giving an informative but not too in your face audio description on the way.

What to do in St Kitts for history lovers

Head to Brimstone Fortress – It’s a UNESCO site and one of the best preserved historical fortifications in the Americas. The construction of the Brimstone Hill Fortress started in 1690 and took just over 100 years to be finished.

Cannons were first mounted on the Hill in 1689 by the French but following that , the English used the hill as a fortress taking advantage of it’s over 900 foot height.

The fortress is vast and in a remarkably good state of affairs. It has a fascinating yet tragic history and knowledgeable local guides can show you round the area, teaching you to identify British or French cannons and explaining the history of the site.

Another great option is Wingfield Estate – named after The Earl of Wingfield from East Anglia. Even for those who are not huge history fans then Wingfield Estate will still be of interest. It’s thought to possess the earliest examples of British Masonry anywhere in the Americas as well the oldest in tact rum distillery in the West Indies.

What to do in St Kitts for foodies

In the early evening head to trendy Salt Plage for sunset. This open air bar and restaurant is the epitome of cool, with it’s very instagrammable net seats over the water enabling you to sip on a cocktail while watching the fish below. The flag laden jetty has seats going out to the sea, while the seats near the bar itself are treated to live music.

The cocktail menu is top notch, and there’s a range of table snacks/sharers as well as the popular main dishes. It’s a place to be seen on the island and it’s easy to spend hours here enjoying the cool sea breeze and a few cocktails as the sun sets.

4pm until late – St Christophe Harbour

Another great option on an evening is to head to where the party is at; Sprat Net . It’s a relaxed affair, a bar/restaurant built from wood with one side opened up for views. There’s a live band playing at the weekends, playing lively versions of top hits.

The bar serves up a few options including beers and a variety of different rums, but what you’re really here for is the giant portions of fresh seafood and meat. Top recommendation would be the lobster with ribs, but also choose from other options including shrimp, all served with bread and corn on the cob. For vegetarians, opt for the delicious smelling pizzas. It’s definitely one of the top things to do in St Kitts.

What to do in St Kitts for a day out.

carib st kitts

Then head over to South Friars Bay – check out beachside bars for lunch and a cocktail before taking some time to relax on the loungers or the soft sand.

If you’re still not ready to sit still then there are a lot of watersports on offer. Jet ski excursions round the bars are good for thrill seekers, and if you want a good laugh then try out the inflatable sofa-like items that you can sit on with friends before being pulled across the water at high speeds.

There’s also snorkelling and for those who want it a little more laid back the water is lovely and warm for good old swimming.

What to do in St Kitts for the active

Today, make sure you have a big breakfast as you’ve got a big climb ahead of you.

Mount Liamunga is a dormant volcano on St Kitts offering fantastic views into it’s lush green crater, and also out to the Caribbean Sea from certain viewpoints. It’s a tough hike, with sections that involve scrambling and climbing, so if you’re not that fit it’s probably not for you. O Neil Mulraine is the islands favoured guide. He’s over 60 but the fittest pensioner you’ll ever meet and he will put you to shame as he bounds up the trail without breaking a sweat. Prepare for the hike to take all day; usual times vary from 4 hours round trip if you’re very fast to 10 hours for those needing to stop for a rest frequently. Hiking in St Kitts

Make sure to pack water, mosquito repellent and your camera for the views from the top! It’s hard going even if you’re in good shape, but the views and feeling of achievement make it all worthwhile. Even if you only have one day in St Kitts, it’s worth the effort.

Since then, over 16,000 applicants have taken advantage of the country’s CBI. Given the overall number of St Kitts and Nevis citizens, every fifth passport holder is a foreign investor.

4. What are the conditions for obtaining the St Kitts and Nevis passport?

You can choose one of the two options: make a non-refundable donation of $150,000 to the government fund or get a passport by investing $200,000–400,000 into government-approved property in St Kitts . In 5-7 years, you’ll be able to exit the property investment.

5. So I can invest in the range of $ 200,000–$ 400,000 based on property type. Correct?

No, based on ownership type. According to the programme, you can invest $200,000 into property in St Kitts and Nevis and become a shared proprietor. That means the property will be purchased by two or more co-owners – programme applicants. In this case, you’ll be able to return the investment in 7 years.

If you wish to be a sole proprietor, you’ll need to invest $ 400,000. The minimum investment term will be 5 years.

6. Can I make a profit from my St Kitts and Nevis property?

Sure! By investing in property in this Caribbean country, you can count on 2-3% of yearly revenues. Foreign investors usually purchase hotels, condominiums and seaside resorts.

7. Do I have to travel to St Kitts and Nevis to obtain a passport?

No, you don’t have to visit St Kitts and Nevis to process your citizenship. You can do everything, including property choice and purchase, remotely. Note! You can only apply for citizenship in this Caribbean country through an authorised agent. The Astons experts, with their 30 years of experience and flawless reputation, will help you prepare the documents, submit the application correctly and obtain the citizenship of St Kitts and Nevis.

8. Can I obtain the passports of St Kitts and Nevis for my whole family?

Of course. The St Kitts and Nevis CBI allows you to get citizenship not only for yourself but also for your spouse and financially dependent children (under 30), parents and grandparents (over 55).

9. Has the St Kitts and Nevis immigration programme changed as a result of the pandemic?

Yes, to the benefit of the investor! Taking the pandemic into account, the authorities of St Kitts and Nevis enabled the main applicant to add three family members to the application – at no cost. Thus, the donation sum for a family of four will be the same as for a single applicant – $150,000. Before these changes, the non-refundable donation for a family of four amounted to $195,000.

The Astons consultants remind you that you can benefit from this generous offer till the end of 2020. Please do not delay your application.

10. Has there been an increase in applicants for St Kitts and Nevis passports in 2020? Or is the investment migration industry in a slump?

The pandemic shook the market of investment migration. In the first half of 2020, the number of applications grew by almost a quarter.

The Caribbean region leads the game among other providers of Citizenship by Investment programmes. Analysts have already named the St Kitts and Nevis passport the most popular option of the season.

11. Is there a way to obtain the citizenship of St Kitts and Nevis quickly?

Yes. The immigration process takes 2–3 months, yet you can also file an express application. In the latter case, you’ll get the passport of St Kitts and Nevis in just 45–60 days.

12. Does this citizenship have any tax benefits?

St Kitts and Nevis offers an attractive taxation regime: there are no taxes for global incomes, dividends, wealth or inheritance. Businesses also enjoy favourable conditions: the country provides income tax exemption for the term of 15 years, and the VAT ranges between 0 and 17%.

Moreover, on becoming a citizen of St Kitts and Nevis, you’ll be able to open accounts in European banks and safeguard your capitals.

13. What are the requirements for a foreign investor within the Citizenship by Investment programme of St Kitts and Nevis?

The person applying for a passport of this Carribean state must be over 18 years old, have a clean criminal record and have no current criminal procedures.

14. What’s the term of the St Kitts and Nevis passport?

Within the investment migration programme of St Kitts and Nevis, you’ll get citizenship for life. The passport is issued for 10 years (5 years for children). After that term, you can renew it without any extra investment.

SKN avoids visa restrictions from UK

st kitts travel to uk

St Kitts and Nevis is not among the countries that were slapped with visa restrictions from the United Kingdom. Dominica and several other territories suffered a different outcome.

UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman announced Wednesday that Dominican, Honduran, Namibian, Timorese, and Vanuatuan nationals will now require a visa,. The choice was made after giving careful thought to the immigration policies of the two nations, and how they would affect immigration to and security at the UK’s borders.

In her statement, Home Secretary Braverman highlighted concerns about the abuse of citizenship by investment schemes in Dominica and Vanuatu.

“Careful consideration of Dominica’s and Vanuatu’s operation of a citizenship by investment scheme has shown clear and evident abuse of the scheme, including the granting of citizenship to individuals known to pose a risk to the UK.

“The decision to impose these visa requirements has been taken solely for migration and border security reasons, and is not a sign of poor relations with these countries. Any decision to change a visa regime is not taken lightly and we keep our border and immigration system under regular review to ensure it continues to work in the UK national interest.”

These issues and improving border security are the goals of the new visa requirements. Individuals from the affected nations will now require visas to travel to the UK. Additionally, a Direct Airside Transit Visa will be needed to transit through the UK on the way to another nation.

The Home Office has implemented a four-week grace period to give travellers who have already made flight reservations a transitional period. This means that travellers with confirmed reservations who arrive in the UK by August 16, 2023, and whose confirmed reservations were made on or before 1500 BST on July 19, 2023, will still be able to do so without a visa.

Recently St Kitts and Nevis’ Passport ranked 24th in the Henley and Partners passport index, noting that the Federation has visa-free access to 155 countries globally.

The restrictions on Dominica now serve as a warning for the authorities in St. Kitts and Nevis to continue to strengthen the CBI program to ensure the same does not happen here.
